jupiter family media taste hcs
this is stupid but idrc. my blog.
David listens to like, classic 90s rock. Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins - that whole lot. He also really likes classic, OG 80s metal (metallica, judas priest, dio, etc.). He developed his music taste from 95 to 99 and never really got into stuff after that. Hes a grumpy old man about his music and will never stray from his ol reliable stack of dusty CDs. Where he's a grandpa about his music though, this man will watch basically any movie that comes out and say "that was pretty good" in his opinion cinema peaked with 2001 a Space Odyssey and Saving Private Ryan. Hal tried to show him Akira or Ghost in the Shell and he got wayyyyyy confused. He doesn't really watch TV other than blankly staring at history channel and animal planet "documentaries" and manly man reality TV shows when there's nothing better to do
Hal has a really eclectic collection of music that is constantly changing. However the most common thread of music he likes is 80s New Wave and synth - The Smiths, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Joy Division, Duran Duran. That kinda stuff. However his playlist went on to be full of vocaloid songs, neo-synthwave, break core and he got into more experimental stuff as he got older (even then he never fully dug deep, just started listening to Bjork and Kate Bush yk?) He also loves soundtracks and *loves* lofi hip hop. We already basically know Hal's taste in movies/tv so instead im gonna say his favorite anime movie is Akira, his favorite non-anime movie is Brazil and if you ask him his favorite anime he'll go on and on and on about a super obscure mecha anime from the 80s. I think hes a massive cinephile and huge nerd about his movies and shows but it's literally only for anime and sci fi and occasionally action stuff. Ask him about the complexities of Apocalypse Now or the symbolism in Blue Velvet and he'll just give you a blank stare.
Sunny ended up with like. The weirdest combination of her parents tastes. She LOVESSSSS vocaloid and LOVESSSS anime but in a tweenager in the mid 2010s way you know. This girl was in the Black Butler, Attack on Titan, Fairy Tale, Soul Eater TRENCHES. She also got into a lot of alt music but it was. you know. Fall Out Boy and Panic at the Disco and baby's first alt band stuff. What a crazy lil gal.
Raiden was a nu-metal kid big time. He was always bumping Korn and Slipknot and System of a Down. He was also really into 90s industrial like Rammstein, Nine Inch Nails, and KMFDM. He kinda grew out of this but not really, just mellowed out and got into more 'mainstream' alt like Radiohead and Elliot Smith. As we know, Raiden is a canonical filmbro (getting into fights with random women about pointless details in movies). I think he lovessssss neo noir and crime thrillers. Anything dark and gritty he just adores. Taxi Driver, Fight Club, Fallen Angels, Clockwork Orange, Crash, Prisoners <- whatevere this genre is he just eats that shit up. Hes a total snob, but not like. In a french film school way in a over 500 entries on letterboxd way. He's subscribed to like evry major movie review channel and it's impossible to take him out to any kinoplex because he just starts ranting on the state of modern cinema. He still maintains this snobbery and its only gotten worse lmao

The Secrets of Lady Lesso - Chapter 5, Rumors
Tumblr media
Rumors have a way of reframing the way you look at a person. Whether they’re true or not, they can make you question everything you’ve ever known about them. Rumors invite the imagination to get creative. And while often harmless, rumors could also bite.
The students of the School for Good and Evil were rising heroes and villains waiting for their own epic tales to be written. But at the end of the day, they were still, at their core, children. And as children are prone to do…they gossip. That was how Professor Clarissa Dovey found herself in quite the predicament one spring morning.
The sun glittered merrily outside, melting the last vestiges of the winter’s snow on the lawn. The bright rays through the window caught the crystal gem hanging against the glass and reflected colorful rainbows across the room. The dance of colors was truly beautiful and brought a wistful smile to her face.
A tentative knock sounded against the office door, drawing Clarissa out of her wandering thoughts. It was soft enough that she wasn’t certain it had happened at all. A second knock followed, just as hesitant as the first.
Clarissa rose from behind her desk and opened the office door, peering curiously out into the hall. A small Ever student, one of their youngest around age twelve, shuffled awkwardly in the threshold.
“Elia, dear!” Dovey said with surprise. “What can I help you with?”
The poor child looked up at her with absolute dread etched across her features.
“It’s about your wife, ma’am…”
“My wife?” She asked, confusion clear in her voice.
“I told them not to do it, but they didn’t listen to me.” The girl exclaimed in a hurried rush. “They took her cane from the chair while she was yelling at Elliot.”
Heat pooled in her cheeks as she understood the implication before being washed away by the concern for her friend.
“She was heading over to the School for Evil, but she didn’t look too good, ma’am. Snapped at me when I offered to help. I thought she might feel better if it was you.”
“Thank you, Elia. You did the right thing.” Dovey hushed. “If you would please leave a note on my desk with the names of those students, I would be ever so grateful.”
She collected her skirts and started running down the hall.
“Oh! And Elia... Please, let’s not use spousal terms when referring to the staff. It will be Lady Lesso or Dean Lesso from now on. She gets a bit tetchy about proper titles.” Clarissa called over her shoulder.
She would deal with that at a later date…after she has had the opportunity to speak to Leonora about it.
Clarissa made it to the dark castle in record time, despite her heels and cumbersome skirts. The halls were blessedly empty and she only had to navigate two corridors before finding the other woman. Lady Lesso was leaning against the grimy, stone wall in a darkened corner of the alcove. She was holding her thigh in a white-knuckled grasp and, even from this distance, she could see the pain in her posture.
“Lady Lesso!” Dovey greeted casually as she closed the distance. “Fancy meeting you here!”
Upon closer inspection, Lesso’s face appeared unnaturally pale. Beads of sweat clung to her hairline and her hands trembled in her effort to appear composed.
“I was just heading to your chambers to find you. I was hoping to get your opinion on a suitable punishment for a set of Ever students who believed that torturing others was great entertainment.”
“Of course.” Lesso grit through bared teeth. “I have several ideas, actually.”
“Oh, but my feet are killing me from these heels. Be a dear, and help me the rest of the way?”
Clarissa didn’t ask. She linked her arm with Leonora’s and pulled the taller woman’s weight onto her frame. To anyone else, it would have looked like they were going for another one of their evening strolls. To Lesso, it was an immediate relief to her throbbing leg. They finished the stretch of the corridor and turned into an archway with a spiral staircase heading to the corner tower. Halfway to the top, Leonora pulled away and sat on the stairs with a hiss of pain.
“How can I help you right now?” Clarissa whispered, joining her on the step.
Her hands hovered anxiously over Lesso’s bad leg with a lost expression painted on her face.
“I’m fine.” Lesso groaned, slapping her hands away. “Let’s just keep moving. We’re almost there.”
A sharp frown pulled at Clarissa’s lips, but she allowed the avoidance. She stood and offered her arm once more to her struggling friend. Together, they stumbled up the remaining stairs and into Leonora’s private chambers.
“What happened?” Clarissa asked her as she collapsed onto the edge of her bed.
“Oh, I thought that was common knowledge. I trained Cerberus for Hades back in the day as a favor.” Lesso answered blankly.
Dovey’s heart constricted at the emptiness in Lesso’s response. She wrinkled her nose and sat gingerly next to her on the bed, trapping Lesso’s hand between her both of her own.
“You don’t have to pretend with me, Nora.” She whispered against the tears burning in her eyes.
“Yes, yes, I’m fine Dove.” Leonora sighed. “Just wondering the best way to kill some teenagers and manage to keep my job.”
Dovey snorted a laugh and leaned her head onto Lesso’s shoulder. “I may or may not have a list waiting on my desk of the students responsible.”
“Little shits. Your little Evers were too cowardly to try something face to face, they had to team up while my back was turned!”
“I'm sure it’s the only way anyone at this school could have possibly gotten away with it. I defer all consequences to you, dear.”
“When I’m done with them, they’ll be the ones needing a cane.” Lesso muttered darkly.
Dovey pulled away and dipped to the floor, pulling at the laces on Lesso’s stiletto boots. The Dean of Evil quirked a curious eyebrow but said nothing.
“You kind of set yourself up for it, you know.” Clarissa stated matter-of-fact as she tucked the boots neatly under the bed. “You don’t let anyone get close to you and you keep them guessing. Me included! Especially when you spin your fantastical tales about your injury. They’re dumb teenagers, Leonora. I’m not saying what they did was right. I’m just saying they are testing their boundaries and they have no earthly idea as to what consequences might come of it.”
A pensive pout pulled at Lesso’s lips and Clarissa was overcome with the sudden desire to kiss it away. Shaking the thought away, she quickly stood and fled to the ensuite to retrieve a glass of water and some pain medication, using the opportunity to hide the blush surely forming on her cheeks.
“You know, I heard this fascinating rumor today.” She heard Lesso shout over the sound of the faucet.
“What did you hear?” Dovey questioned with genuine intrigue as she passed Lesso the pain relief.
Clarissa allowed herself to relax on the already rumpled bedspread and propped her head up with her hand, looking at her friend curiously. Leonora set the glass on the nightstand and mirrored her position.
“We look and sound like a couple of teenagers gossiping.” Clarissa giggled.
“Oh, just you wait, Rissa.” Leonora barked with barely contained laughter.
The redhead cleared her throat dramatically and lowered her voice into a stage whisper.
“I heard some Ever boys saying some rather salacious comments about the lovely shape of…” She gestured rudely in the direction of her chest. “And then something about being a fairy godmother they’d like to…”
Clarissa’s offended gasp cut off the rest of Lesso’s statement. A wide and entirely too mirthful grin split across the Evil Dean’s face.
“Based on the very descriptive details I overheard, I don’t think they were referencing our resident beauty teacher.”
“While disgusting and highly inappropriate, that’s not exactly the definition of a rumor.” Dovey sputtered.
The glee in Lesso’s eyes ignited and, if possible, her smile only widened.
“One of your less than chivalrous boys asked how long the rest of them thought we had been dirty dancing for. Elliot, I believe his name was? He had some rather imaginative scenarios as to what we really do during the weekly staff meetings. Should I describe it for you?”
Clarissa choked on her own saliva and said a silent  prayer to the Storian to kill her now. Lady Lesso must have seen the mortification plain on her face, as she finally released the uncontrollable laughter she had been holding back.
“I will cherish the horror that dawned on their faces the second they saw me behind him for as long as I shall live.” Leonora sighed as her laughter dissipated, wiping the joyful tears from her eyes.
Dovey was still recovering from the heat of embarrassment and covered her face with her hands. She couldn’t look at her. If she looked at her, it was over. Lesso would be able to see the want and love staring back at her and this farce of being happy with merely friendship would be over.
“Well, as a Dean of this hallowed institution, I, of course, could not let this behavior abide. While delivering a verbal reprimand, one of yours thought it would be hilarious to take my cane. And here we are.” Leonora concluded.
“Well thank you for defending my honor.” Dovey said with only a hint of sarcasm from behind her fingers.
Lesso let quietness settle between them. The stillness was comfortable, but she could feel the unexplained tension rolling off of the Fairy Godmother.
“Thank you for coming to find me. I know that Ava girl sent for you.” She said quietly.
“Elia.” Clarissa corrected.
“I’m not a liar!”
Clarissa rolled her eyes at Leonora’s antics and didn’t fight the smile pulling at her lips. Lesso gave her a small smile in return, relieved to feel the tension dissipating with her terrible joke.
“Leonora, how do you deal with all the rumors?” Dovey asked after a beat.
The question was soft in its earnestness. Though quietly spoken, the weight of it seemed to fill the room. Clarissa watched as Leonora’s eyebrows knitted together in thought. A contemplative hum reverberated in her throat and she rolled herself to her belly. Lesso rested her head in the cradle of her folded arms and studied Clarissa intently.
“It has been my experience that people are going to talk, no matter what you say or do.” She said slowly, choosing her words carefully. “No amount of threatening or punishment truly makes it stop. They just find other ways to communicate it. I have found that dealing with it, as you say, is more about not letting the things that are said affect me.”
“How do you do that?” Clarissa probed with genuine interest.
“Well…” Lesso drawled. “I can’t be surprised or offended by a rumor if I’m the one creating it. I like to get ahead of the curve. It lets me control the narrative.”
The Fairy Godmother closed her eyes and nodded in a sorrowful understanding.
“That’s why you make up stories about your leg.”
“It’s…easier than having to listen to idiots try to guess about something so outside of what their teeny tiny brains could possibly understand.”
Leonora shrugged her shoulders and pushed herself off the mattress. She held out her hand and helped Clarissa to her feet.
“Come on, princess. At this rate, we are going to miss lunch.”
She rummaged through the wardrobe and retrieved the raven-headed cane and opened the door.
“And we don’t need any more of those kinds of rumors going around.” She joked with a flirty wink.
Clarissa flushed once more and let loose a nervous laugh. “About that…I heard this lovely little rumor from Elia this morning…”
“Who?” Lesso asked with feigned ignorance.
Dovey’s expression fell flat and she deadpanned, “Ava.”
“Oh! Yes! Delightful girl, that one.” Lesso smirked.
The pair began their descent down the staircase and into the hall.
“How do you feel about a spring wedding?”
Clarissa felt a broad smirk of her own form as Leonora’s steps beside her faltered. Maybe she wasn’t the only one feeling so affected by the implications of wild gossip.

been talking about my characters a lot more so i will make a thing now with their names and stories and stuff (adding and taking from this as the story changes/grows)
Kieran (he/him): He's a vampire and his curse is getting worse and corrupting his magic. His curse makes him no longer remember anything that he knew before he turned (besides basic knowledge about himself). His story is about relearning what family means and finding a way to change for the better and cure his curse.
Aidyn Forrest (she/her): Her family has always been well off, and she's been going to a school of magic for as long as she's known she had magic. She lived with her aunt when her mother passed, and Sylvia frequently visited her aunt after her shifts. Kieran is her best friend, and she wants to help him achieve his dreams even if it's not what she wants.
Sylvia Goldleaf (she/xe): She and xyr sister are fallen Windwraiths (winged creatures, not quite elves or fairies) who got separated during the fall. For all they know, the other could be dead. Sylvia appeared in a great healer's backyard and was given her new name then. Xe trained to be a healer like the one who saved her, and she did reach this goal, but the hospital xe worked at was very expensive and only accessible to the rich. She became a pirate to help people who truly matter to her, xyr crew.
Cliff (she/they): Cliff, an aquatic person, comes from the Finn Clan, a noble family of the sea (though her old family definitely doesn't want to see her again, unless she's behind bars). They were never allowed to make her own choices in life, and spent her free time reading about tales of great pirates. It was their dream to one day become a pirate and escape the reef.
Magma/Maggie (they/he): He was treated differently by most people in their old village because they are a mix between a Blazewing(fire fairy) and a Rainwalker(water fairy). He has extremely weak magic that takes the form of steam, so instead of using their magic he took up alchemy. He works together with Sylvia often, but because of the way they grew up, he thinks that his worth is only what he can create and offer.
Amaryllis/Amy Sunpetal (she/her): adding later
Aspen Sunpetal (She/they/it):adding later
Sparrow Sunpetal (he/him): adding later
Altair Seer/Guardian Seer (she/it):adding later
Also the 6 gods!! Luna Umbra (she/any) is the goddess of darkness, Solis Lux (she/any) is the goddess of light. Aestas (they/she) is the goddess of summer, Fols (they/them) is the god of spring, Mors (she/his/them) is the god of autumn, and Nix (she/they/it) is the goddess of winter
some extras that are from different stories (may add to this later)
Flame (she/her):
Ash (he/they):
Flicker (they/it):
Burn (he/him):
Spark (they/she/ze):
Ember (she/her):
the humans (different story, mostly unrelated)
Elliot/El (he/her/any): Her story is about how he escapes from a terrible situation at home. His story explores genderfluidity and being queer in general, as well as mental health.
Atlas (she/they): El's sister who helped him through a lot of her issues, also served as a way to better show how uncaring their mother is. (not going into details in this post, mother is just bad)
Quinn (they/he): His story is about finding people who they fit in with, who dont treat them badly. His story contrasts Elliot's, who is their best friend, but neither stories are happy.
Kai (he/it): will add later
Luke (he/him: will add later
June (she/her): June thinks she's just a straight ally because she's never felt romantic or sexual attraction to anyone, really. Her story is about self discovery, and the realization that she's aroace.

My 2022 5 Star Reads
Tumblr media
These are all of the books I read in 2022 and rated 5 stars. I highly recommend them, so check out my reviews and feel free to ask me any questions! Let me know if you enjoyed them as well! Unfortunately not as many as previous years.
Hover Car Racer by Matthew Reilly Hover Car Racer is aimed at younger audiences than the typical Matthew Reilly fare, but I still love re-reading it. It’s still a fast-paced thriller with heroes to root for; the typical underdog tale in which the protagonist must fight for survival and success amongst a group that largely has it easier than him. As always, Reilly includes enough twists and turns to make it interesting. Out of all of Reilly’s novels, Hover Car Racer has perhaps the most characterisation. Jason Chaser is a young hover car racer who has recently won a place at the International Race School, where racers either make it on to the Pro Circuit - or they crash and burn. But of course, he’s much younger than the others and has a target on his back. [REVIEW]
The Younger Wife by Sally Hepworth Tully and Rachel are upset when they discover their father has a new girlfriend, half his age. Stephen is still married to their mother, who is in a care facility with end-stage Alzheimer’s disease. Hepworth sets up the fact that something tragic has occurred at the wedding of Heather and Stephen, and then the novel vacillates between the past and present. These events are told from multiple perspectives, including Tully, Rachel, Heather. I love all three of these women. They are eccentric and a little strange, but their stories and perspectives are captivating. Hepworth brilliantly foreshadows the toxic undercurrent throughout this novel, and my instincts and her clues told me what this was before the reveal. [REVIEW]
Book Lovers by Emily Henry I’m not a huge romance reader, but I loved everything about this book. Emily Henry takes a classic romance trope head on and brilliantly turns it around. This is an enemies to lovers romance, and they have incredible chemistry, but importantly they move between banter and serious conversations. At one point in a vulnerable moment Charlie says, ‘maybe I just say the right thing for you.’ and that pretty much sums up their relationship. Neither Nora nor Charlie have to hide behind a persona when they are together in order to appear more palatable. They are more comfortable in each other’s presence even before anything romantic happens. [REVIEW]
Persuasion by Jane Austen Whilst P&P is my favourite, I also love most of Austen’s other works, including Persuasion. Anne Elliot is a more introspective main character, who grows in maturity and understanding as she chooses to make the right choices for herself. I love Anne’s point of view, and how the truth and depth of everyone’s feelings is slowly realised. “You pierce my soul. I am half agony, half hope...I have loved none but you.”
The Viscount Who Loved Me by Julia Quinn (Bridgertons #2) I love the dynamic between Kate and Anthony, and I especially love who Kate is as an individual and how she presents herself. The chemistry and banter between the two is perfect; they are both such staunchly proud characters who must always have the last word. But their relationship is so much more than that; their dynamic works because they can understand each other in ways no one else does. How their relationship progresses, and Edwina’s role in the narrative, is quite different from the show. [REVIEW]
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen Yes, I still can’t manage to write a review for P&P even though it’s my favourite book. That would be because anything I write would pale in comparison to how I truly feel about it. If you’re interested in giving a classic novel a go, I definitely recommend it.

Why is Pride important to me?
I didn't know about Pride when I was a kid.
I didn't know that it was once illegal to be gay. That there were still anti-homosexual laws in effect in the United States until 2003 (x).
I didn't know that queer people were hunted down by the police and verbally/physically/sexually assaulted (x).
I was in high school when I learned that, six years before, a young college student was beaten and left for dead in the middle of a prairie, because be was gay (x).
I was in college when I realized that the US Government explicitly banned federal funding for AIDS education and prevention at the beginning of a worldwide epidemic (x).
Gay people in films and television were campy characters, the joke. They were presented as shock value or sleezy entertainment (two hot women kissing? Score!). Or, they were the cautionary tale of what could happen if you dared to be queer.
In grade school, I got in trouble for kissing girls. I never got in trouble for kissing boys. I was told that homosexuality was a choice and a sin. I was told that only people who were abused were gay. I was told that gay people were disgusting, and that their existence was "flaunting their sinful lifestyle." I was never told that there was more than "gay" or "straight." Transgender people were "cross dressers" and they were perverts, or a big joke.
My brothers and their friends played Smear the Queer. When I cut my hair, I was asked if I was a lesbian (which I vehemently denied because I was NOT choosing that lifestyle). I prayed for the one out boy in our school. I gave him a Bible and invited him to church.
Thankfully, I learned things on my own. I was still (secretly, supressingly) curious. I borrowed Keeping You a Secret from a friend in 8th grade and read it under my covers in one night. I discovered RENT. I saw To Wong Foo. I snuck queer books from the library. I eventually was in The Laramie Project, and learned that some churches didn't condemn homosexuality. I watched Milk. I decided that the God I was raised to believe in couldn't possibly hate anyone, let alone someone trying so desperately to exist. I learned that Pride was an uprising, a riot.
I finally came out to myself. I came out to my friends.
I didn't have Pride (at least not available to me). I didn't have Heartstopper or Schitt's Creek or Love, Simon. I didn't have "regular" queer characters on TV or in moves or in books. I didn't have Dan Levy and Elliot Page and Jojo Siwa. I had Rosie being canceled after coming out (still don't know if that is related or not). I had Ellen being canceled for being "too gay."
I didn't know that I could still live a completely normal life and be queer. I didn't know it was possible. I didn't know it was allowed.
But my daughter knows that. My nieces and nephews know that.
Every child who has any question about themselves can find a safe place with me.
And I'm fucking proud of that.

Problem is, I have over 600 OCs! It would be so incredibly hard for me to infodump about all 600 of them! In a manner that would be post-able on Tumblr!
SO under the break I'll give a quick breakdown of the... main stories/universes I have ^_^
You can also find my Toyhouse here! Folders are named and organized pretty thoroughly.
Tales of Astreus: Sci-fi, set in a near future of Earth. A small government has an empire that spans solar systems, and sentient species all over the galaxy fight back.
Main: Alex Cooper, a pilot to the Aegis Council, gets a small crew (Fuyuko, Valérie Blais) to complete a confidential mission. Months in, they get stopped by members of an Anti-Aegis organization (Kai Morgan, Knim) and have to work together as their ideals change. Space opera with a heist sub-plot.
Nekusasu: Worldbuilding side story, expanding upon the Nexus androids and the Nekusasu corporation.
Clicks: Worldbuilding side story, expanding upon the Clicks, an insect-like species with strict social roles.
Ma'atsul: Three young adults with powers relating to the elements have to stop a god killer who may be the fourth, lost member of their group. Late medieval fantasy (Alamiel, The Arsonist, Samira, Star, as well as 12 gods).
Kamaria: Fuga, heir to a small clan, and Ayda, princess of the kingdom of Kamaria, have to defeat an existential threat. Fantasy, most recent and with the most development needed.
H(A)UNTING: Contemporary fantasy/supernatural/horror. A company, highly secretive, classifies Unnatural events under 10 (eventually, 11) different Marks: the Collective, the Confinement, the Crawl, the Deep, the Mimic, the Ruin, the Sickness, the Solitary, the Tempest, the Viscera, (The Watcher).
Pyre Point: Main story. A scientist (Faux) uncovers secrets to Unnatural biology and the Midnight corporation has internal disputes. (Ellen Ward, Elliot Philips, and many more)
The End: Two Watchers (Wormwood and Andromalius) have to stop the End of Everything before it happens. (Featuring the Horsemen of the Apocalypse)
Rotting Heartz: An Unnatural band and an alternate future to The End story, with a post-apocalyptic setting.
Fortuna: There's no way I can explain it in words. Image attached. (Fortune/Sachiel, Abel Wilbert, Elias Henderson, and Smiley)
Tumblr media
Deadly Sins: Set in a version of Hell, the Seven Deadly Sins personified have intertwined stories.
Alexandra: Moving for college, she encounters a family of vampires.
Sappho: Vampire from the early medieval age with a story spanning up to today.
My Property Isn't Normal: Based on the Reddit story of the same name.
Cowboys: Chris Sloan and Violet Noble butt heads in the american west while they try to uncover a mystery around the slaughter of the herd.
The Ocean: A pirate and a mermaid have a fateful meeting.
Animatronics: Less of a set world, and more of a collection of stories featuring animatronics.
Mythos' Diner: A story of familial tragedy and a continuing cycle of abuse, explored mostly through in-universe media and public reception, spanning 20+ years. An animatronic restaurant (similar to Chuck E. Cheese) themed around greek mythology. Lester Drakos, Harvey Lobos, Zero, and Aperes and the Muses.
Canidae: Originally a theme park in the 80s/90s, the characters were adapted into a cartoon in the early 2000s.
Feliforma: Competitor to Canidae Park, based on feliforms rather than canids.
Starlight: Contemporary fantasy. Maybe that's a strong descriptor... superheroes is more appropriate. Genetic mutations allow 10% of the population to have superpowers, and there are strict rules and regulations around who can become a superhero or supervillain.
Main: Kiran and Sasha are super rivals and romantically involved. A story about abuse and growth.
Epilogue: Post-main story, following high school aged supers and Kiran and Sasha's child.
Magical Girls: Not much in terms of names or character arcs, but magical girls who have to fight 7 Heavenly Virtues.
Many more miscellaneous supers...
Slasher: Again, less of a set world, and more a collection of different stories.
Shame: A group of college students find their deepest secrets and shames exposed by a ruthless killer.
Waterpark: Young adults spend their night in a closed waterpark, whilst being stalked by something.
Sunset Harbor, joint project with @/hellish-bone-monarch: A serial killer, infamous throughout the town, has a specific calling card. Copycat kills have been popping up recently, with people fearing of a twisted fanclub. College students are investigated regarding their alleged involvement.
Hound & Deer, also a join project with @/hellish-bone-monarch: Two slashers who are so so so sickly sweetly in love.
Garden of Eden: A retelling of the story through blogs and news sites.
Holmes: Retelling of Sherlock Holmes with contemporary characters.
Horror Game: No title as of yet, but two protagonists of different horror game genres are stuck together.
Space Rock Opera: No title as well, but a conceptual concert/stage play (think Halyx) that features space opera-type characters.
And MANY MANY MANY more miscellaneous characters without a specific story.

Fucked at Five Faceclaims
I used picrews from a couple different ones but I'll pick from these two here and here.
Elliot (he/him)- Actually has antlers on his head at all times (unless he breaks them). Morpher form is a deer (most likely white tailed deer).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Favorite songs: Blame Game by beach bunny and There's a Good Reason These Tables Are Numbered Honey, You Just Haven't Thought Of It Yet by Panic! At the Disco. (😭😭 Remember when Panic and Fall Out Boy had long ass song titles?)
Random Fact: Somewhat resents that Saz and Ian can grow better facial hair than him.
---
Julie (she/her)- She secretes slime when stressed/anxious. She passes off as human easily because of no immediate outward appearance/indicator. Morpher form is a hagfish.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Favorite Songs: Better Days by Paris Texas and Knee Socks by Artic Monkeys
Random Fact: She actually has a prosthetic eye. She has a lot of sensitivities with her eyes and isn't very confident about them in general.
---
Saz (she/her)- Can also pass off as human fairly well. Is exceptionally hairy/furry, especially after morpher form is fully awakened. Morpher form bear (unsure whether it's black bear or grizzly bear)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Favorite songs: bloodstains by 100 gecs and I FIGHT BITCHES by thot squad
Random fact: She has had her tongue pierced 8 times and have swallowed the actual piercing jewelry 6 times.
---
Ian (he/it)- Typically has a set of antlers on top of their head, and pointed ears similar to a deer's. Far less prone to break their antlers than Elliot. Morpher form is a deer (white taled deer specifically).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Favorite Songs: I Just Wanna Live by Good Charlotte and Give it Away by the Red Hot Chili Peppers
(I had to fight from putting a radiohead or the killers song. I'm biased because they're my favorites and I've listened to them a long time XD He is essentially listening to my middle school playlists.)
Random Fact: This bitch loves mullets. Fucking adores them. He really wants one.

Can I be greedy and ask for two for the WIP game?! (feel free to just respond with your fav if I'm only supposed to ask for one haha). I'd love to know what "good 4 u" is about (I love that song 😄) and "you look like my next mistake" sounds really intriguing...
you can absolutely have two!
good 4 u is fairly recent, it's a james/lily break-up fic but unlike the "we realised in hiding we did all this way too young and we're getting amicably divorced when all this is over" one i have in the back of my mind, this is the tale of an unnecessarily petty break-up on both sides. and it obviously ends in james/sirius because why else do i write. I think it's a modern muggle au? reading my plan this is actually a very unhinged fic. idk what i needed to get out of my system in february. because this one is very fresh, the doc is 50% plan and what is written will probably be edited a fair bit but:
“Budge up, mate,” Sirius commands with a nudge from his knee to James’ back. “Reg’s in my bed and Pete’s dribbled on the sofa so I’m not touching that. Or him.”
James shuffles over without opening his eyes. “No snoring,” he mumbles into the mattress. Sirius laughs, then for a second his brain is taken over by Padfoot, whose snuffled snores almost always earn him James’ gentlest, slowest, long-fingered scratches.
you look like my next mistake is dead and buried, i'm afraid, i'm not finishing it, but i wrote 3k words of it so i felt like it deserved a last chance for attention. this is from 2014. and in 2014 i watched billy elliot so many consecutive times i put myself on a 6 month ban of watching it so that the emotional effect didn't fade. and i watched it so much i had a billy elliot dream about j/s. so this is a ballet school au where james and sirius meet at boarding school, james has done ballet since he was young because his parents let him do what he wants, he has a plan to audition for the royal ballet school but his parents want him to get a normal education, then he ends up teaching sirius ballet so they can audition together. no idea what the plan was beyond that, honestly.
In my older writing like this I find I wrote Sirius as a much more outwardly scared kid than I (now) think he actually was. But I remember wanting o tap into that instant friendship/connection thing where james quickly invites sirius into this big thing in his life and sirius jumps straight in, so it’s called ‘you look like my next mistake’ because sirius is obviously aware that getting full-on into ballet for a kid he’s known 2 weeks is not going to end well parents-wise but he does it anyway.
“I do ballet.”
Sirius’ eyes roam to the poster above James’ bed, or roughly where it would be in the grainy darkness, and isn’t all that surprised, given the poster and the humming and the way James moves so easily sometimes but his chest scrunches again, differently than it just had but still forced by fear.
“My parents told me not to tell people, you know, because they might not get it. But I know you will. And I don’t care that much anyway, it’s just my parents do. They think I should concentrate on school first. Which is stupid, because I told them the Royal Ballet School is also focussed on academics and is still really prestigious and I could have easily gotten in but they insisted I come here.”
“So you’re good then? I mean, how long have you been doing it?” Sirius can’t find the right words in his head yet, has found that questions are his friends in times like this.
“Since I was six. Actually, the good thing about coming here instead is that I’m still close to my class. They don’t have classes here which is ridiculous, don’t you think?”
“Not even for girls?” Sirius asks, because he doesn’t know, he’s never thought about ballet, looked into it, anything. He didn’t really realise boys did it, at least not normal ones, and James is the most normal thing that’s ever been in his life and that feels extraordinary.
James scoffs. “No, not for anyone. It’s a really intense form of exercise so they really should look into starting one up, but I bet it would just be a beginners group if they did so I wouldn’t bother going anyway.”
James’ confession rouses a scurrying in Sirius’ chest but it settles faster, more easily than when he’s been shouted at for closing a door too loudly.
“So, is it honestly fun? I never thought it was. My cousins- I just thought…is it really that good?”
Sirius hears James’ sheets rustle, makes out his form lying on his side, facing him, and does the same. Sirius can’t think of a standout example from the past two weeks where James has been glaringly wrong, even when it contradicts something his parents have been telling him for years, and he’s definitely an authority on fun. Sirius’ heart races in anticipation, in a good way.
“Yeah,” James whispers, soft and sincere. “I’ve never…nothing feels like it. It’s hard to explain. Sort of like…you’re flying. Like you’re coming out of your own body. And it’s doing all these things you thought it could never do. And it never gets boring or old or too much.”
“Does it really?” And Sirius wants to kick himself for sounding so naïve, so awed at something, like he’s a baby and not an eleven year old who should be cooler and have better control and judgement.
“Yeah,” James says in the same soft tone. “Yeah.” Then firm again, “You should come with me.”
ty!! ask box still open for wip game things!

Elliot Goldenthal, an American composer of modern classical music as well as cinema and theatre compositions, was born on May 2, 1954. He was a pupil of John Corigliano and Aaron Copland and is best renowned for his particular style and his ability to combine numerous musical genres and methods in novel and creative ways. In 2002, he received the Academy Award for Best Original Score for his music for the film Frida, directed by his longtime wife, Julie Taymor. Elliot Goldenthal Elliot, who was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1954, started taking music lessons at a young age and became very interested in music. "I performed in little piano concerts, learned the piano and trumpet, and participated in neighbourhood bands. But I also performed a lot of jazz and rock, and as a young person around that time, I was involved with what was happening in those musical genres." These early influences are still very much a part of Elliot's work, as can be heard on the soundtracks of films like Titus and Batman Forever, even if he is now mostly known for his leanings toward Western art music. Education and Career: Goldenthal was raised by musical influences from different genres and cultures in Brooklyn, New York City, where he was born. From Bucharest and Iaşi, Romania, Goldenthal's grandparents came to the United States in both sets. Goldenthal resided in a place with a diverse population, and his works reflect this. He attended John Dewey High School in Brooklyn, where he premiered his first ballet, Variations on Early Glimpses, at age of 14. He proceeded to showcase his wide-ranging musical tastes by playing with rock bands in the 1970s. He then pursued full-time music studies at the esteemed Manhattan School of Music, where he studied under the mentorship of John Corigliano, a musician he greatly respected, and received degrees in both compositions (1977 and 1979). For the theatre, dance, concert venue, and cinema, Goldenthal has written pieces. Films like Pet Sematary, Alien 3, Michael Collins, Batman Forever, Heat, and the Academy Award-winning score for Julie Taymor's Frida, in which Goldenthal played a brief role as a "Newsreel Reporter," are among those that feature the music he has created. He also played a "Circus Barker/Streetsinger" in a minor role in the theatre production of Juan Darièn, incidentally. In order to prepare the music for Frida, erudite musician Elliot Goldenthal devoted more than a year studying the music of Mexico, Brazil, Cuba, and Spain. Additionally, he added to this film his own upbringing in New York, where he was exposed to Latin music. He sought for the best acoustic guitarists to perform his songs, and several of them were recorded in his New York home room. He had a Mexican woman in her 90s who had performed the same song for Frida Kahlo decades earlier sing an important song in the film. She is still in perfect voice. Grendel, a three-act opera that Goldenthal co-wrote with Taymor and was based on the same-named John Gardner novel, was finished in 2006. It was narrated from the viewpoint of the monster Grendel and related the tale of Beowulf. With Eric Owens playing Grendel, it had its world premiere at the Los Angeles Opera in early June 2006, in front of John Williams and Emmy Rossum. The opera was later added to the company's official repertory, and in April 2007 Goldenthal was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for Music. Goldenthal collaborated once more with Michael Mann to soundtrack the 1930s gangster film Public Enemies, in 2008, and he did the same for The Tempest, another Julie Taymor Shakespeare adaption, in 2009. The distinctions between orchestral film soundtrack and classical stage music have gotten increasingly muddled, according to Goldenthal, which is how he believes they should be. He mentions Japanese musician Tru Takemitsu as an influence and someone he models his work after. Additionally, he has worked four times with Irish filmmaker Neil Jordan, including on In Dreams and Interview with the Vampire.
Working Style: Film music collectors have labelled Elliot Goldenthal the "thinking man's composer," and movie creators and fans of the genre typically choose his more intellectual works. He is renowned for his experiments, subtleties, and willingness to try out novel methods. He has composed music for movies in practically every category, including thriller, horror, and Shakespearean adaptations. Although he hasn't yet composed a comedy soundtrack, he has created comedic motifs for several movies, including Demolition Man and the Batman trilogy. He is well respected among fans and in the music and film industries for his diverse body of work. Although many people admire him for his musical prowess and particular style, some believe his work to be overly experimental or difficult to understand. He writes violent, atonal action music. He occasionally employs extremely quick French horn passages with bending tones and whining in the underscore. According to Goldenthal, "I either hear a melody or I hear sonority" rather than "hearing" atonal and tonal. On the website filmscoremonthly.com, a former classmate of Goldenthal remarked about a 1998 article on the Sphere score in which it was mentioned that Elliot was already experimenting with novel methods when he and Goldenthal were both students at the Manhattan School of Music in the 1970s. During a trumpet lesson, Elliott once instructed him to "buzz into the wrong end of the mouthpiece and sing into it as well." After listening to Goldenthal's film and concert music for almost ten years, he realized that he "was well ahead of the rest of us," despite initially thinking he was crazy.

2023 August Goals - Books
Here are a few books I'm hoping to get to this month. Some I started a month or two ago, but am still working my way through. Others has been on my TBR list for awhile now and I'm using this as a push to get them off the pile.
Dreamwidth Post
2023 August Goals - Films & Shows
Non-Fiction
📚 Flawless: Lessons in Looks and Culture from the K-Beauty Capital by Elise Hu
This is an in-depth look into the history & culture of beauty in South Korea. I actually been reading this for awhile now, but I needed to take many breaks. It's very informative and the history nerd in me loves the culture and societal impacts, but man. It is such a depressing state of things if you think too much about it. How looks drive society, how you must attach a photo to your resume, how strangers remark without prompting your looks and how you can fix it (and usually the first bit of small talk you engage with), how so much pressure is placed on women's bodies and how they are presented. Youth dominates and plastic surgeries are given as high school graduation gifts. I don't think I'll fit well mentally and physically if I were to live in South Korea.
📚 Easy Money: Cryptocurrency, Casino Capitalism, and the Golden Age of Fraud by Ben McKenzie, Jacob Silverman
A book about cryptocurrency! And from Ryan (The OC) of all people. 😯 I've listened to a lot of podcasts about crypto & its ups and downs. Definitely very interested in the topic and how many are drawn into this world in what I consider a very scammy MLM/pyramid scheme by another name.
FoldingIdeas did a great video essay on the subject, if you want to know a bit about this world: Line Goes Up – The Problem With NFTs
📚 Run Towards the Danger: Confrontations with a Body of Memory by Sarah Polley
A collection of essays by the brilliant Sarah Polley. I've enjoyed her films (the ending of Women Talking had me sobbing) and I heard great things about this book, so I'm excited to dive in.
📚 Pageboy by Elliot Page
Does this memoir need an introduction? I'm sure everyone has seen or heard about this and, like Run Towards the Danger, I can't wait to dive in.
---
Fiction
Not sure how it happened, but my fiction picks for the month are all YA fantasy and with a female lead! I hardly ever read YA nowadays, but the following are from my favorite authors or I heard a lot of buzz, so I am intrigued.
📚 A Face Like Glass by Frances Hardinge
Frances Hardinge!!!!! Her stories are *chef's kiss*. Complicated, has depth, definitely weird, imaginative, and freaking AMAZING. And have you read the description for this novel? *grabby hands*
📚 The Robber Girl by Franny Billingsley
Franny Billingsley wrote Chime, which is a book I re-read every year. This novel is the first book she has written since Chime and after a decade hiatus. I am going into this blind and I'm trying to tamper down my expectations, but AHHHHH. I can't wait to be lost in Franny's world again.
📚 Nettle & Bone by T. Kingfisher
What if Prince Charming was the big bad? Want a dark and twisty fairy tale? Yes! Sign me up, please! (Well, all the fiction on this list could be described as that. 🤣)

this was meant to be the first scene of the third part of the gmw + btvs au. it's also the only scene i ever wrote bc i wrote it right after i finished part two, put down the fic, and then promptly fucking forgot what my plans were for it beyond the overarching strokes. i DO love what i did here by bringing back riley's deleted brother elliot from the pilot as a dawn-esque figure but i will be damned if i remember what i was doing with that as a plot point beyond thinking it was cool. also i planned out that thor nikki and francesca (who i nicknamed franny in this fic) were doing Cult Activities a la glory. i would love to finish this fic bc it being unfinished on my ao3 haunts me but honestly idk if i remember enough about gmw OR buffy to do it tbh,,,
well, here's the final part of our tale, since you're so insistent.
in the hazy august heat, shawn, elliott, and riley all pile into shawn's hatchback and drive back upstate. despite the number of times shawn threatens to turn the car around, the drive up is one of the memories that's happy, but at the same time bittersweet, because he knows that this will be one of the — if not the last — time it happens. he knows this memory will be one he cherishes, even if riley had spent half the drive hitting the back of his head with milk duds that she was throwing at elliott for him to catch in his mouth.
maya is the first visitor to the house, there almost as soon as shawn's car is parked, and riley runs at her, almost knocking them both over. she would have, if they weren't both slayers, shawn thinks to himself, and as the two of them begin to kiss each other like the other one's tongue is air, he snorts and averts his eyes, carrying the suitcases inside.
“get a room!” elliott calls, and, without stopping the make out session that shawn thinks might just be a feature of his driveway now, maya flips him off.
shawn smiles, and for a moment, he can almost forget the target on riley's head.
almost.
meanwhile, across town, another group is preparing for the school year to begin...
“is everything ready?” the brunette asks the boy —
well, boy isn't exactly the way to describe him. tall, muscular, and blonde, with a bit of stubble that many college-aged boys would envy, and a chin cleft perfectly in half, this boy is more of a man. though if one were to get technical, he really isn't a man at all.
oops. i think i've said too much.
— and the man nods, while the blonde on his other side smiles and strokes his arm gently.
“it's perfect,” the blonde says, looking down at the poster sprawled out in front of them that reads, ‘ JOIN THE SCHOOL NEWSPAPER! BE A PART OF HISTORY! ’
we'll be seeing more of them later. do not forget them.
