Minho and Felix’s relationship was a quietly sweet one and it had very quickly become one of her favorite things to observe as they had decided it was a good idea to stay inside for a few days after just being reunited.
Though Minho would be quite stoic with her, put on a harsher front, with Felix, he seemed to hold that back a lot and often made sure to smile at the other man and choose lighter jokes rather than the dry humor he often used with her.
Felix liked physical contact and even though it was quite evident that Minho wasn’t the biggest fan of such a thing, he made sure to put an arm around Felix’s waist, hand on his shoulder or even play with his hair.
She wanted to coo at them but held that back very quickly once she locked eyes with Minho, who somehow sensed that she wanted to do such a thing.
When she was a small child, back with her adopted parents, she also had a friend who was very gentle with her; often being a tall wall of don’t you dare bully her.
She frowned to herself as she thought about him, lips slimming as she bit them.
She genuinely hoped that he was okay as they had been friends right up until the middle of high school; before he had to move schools due to his family moving away from the city.
He was also a hybrid and one of the few hybrids that she had ever come across, friendship-wise at least.
A ridiculously tall Bullmastiff hybrid that had already started to develop broad shoulders and a shy but confident demeanor which only made him more protective of her.
Grabbing a hold of her soft left ear, she began to stroke it sadly as she remembered how they used to hold hands and compare their tails whenever they were in a ‘random mood’; he often taught her about hybrid customs as she wasn’t familiar.
He came from a whole pack of hybrids, whereas she was brought up by humans; very kind humans.
She was often flustered that he seemed so excited about the fact she was a Dalmatian and had to hide her face in her hands whenever he fawned over her.
“Your spots are so pretty, you shouldn’t be ashamed of them,” he smiled brightly at her as he knelt before her, trying to get a look at her face which was all red and itchy from crying.
Children were cruel; especially to those who were different.
“But they cover my skin,” she whispered as she touched her face where a large black patch sat around her eye; she then waved her legs around, pulling the leg of her trousers up, “I look like I’ve been beaten,” she stuttered and quickly hid in her arms as she broke down in tears again.
The Mastiff paused as he eyes her leg, breath catching as he noticed that she had tried to use something to hide her spots, his ears and tail falling sadly.
“Please look at me,” he urged with a gentle nudge of her elbow, “Hey, c’mon I know you like looking at me,” he grinned as she laughed at his joke and soon her eyes met his once again.
“Your spots are a part of you and you, are great,” he buried his hand in his school blazer pocket to find his pack of tissues, handing one to her, “if they can’t accept that then that is their problem; you don’t need everybody to like you and I know it hurts when somebody doesn’t,” he offered another gentle smile, “but you can’t please everybody and your time is much better spent on those who you know like and love you,” he arched his eyebrow when his tail wagged ever so slightly, but ignored it.
“I guess,” she whispered with a sad smile, “I’m just fed up with being picked on,” she added as the Mastiff got to his feet, groaning at the strain on his legs from the awkward position he had been in.
“I’ll come with you if you’re ready to report them,” he rubbed the back of his neck, “Nobody should have to put up with that shit,” he smiled as she giggled again at his swearing, a habit that she had started to pick up on.
“I don’t want to get people in trouble,” she waved her hand a bit and jumped when he gently caught it and held her hand.
“They did something wrong; they shouldn’t get away with it,” he squeezed her hand watching her carefully as she fell into silent thoughts, “only when you’re ready,”
It didn’t take her long to nod at him; making their way to their homeroom.
“Thanks, Yunho,”
Felix stretched as he finished making some food for them (instant noodles with boiled bottled water), pausing as he noticed the Dalmatian hybrid deep in thought; a sad expression on her face.
Sharing a quick look with Minho, who was currently trying to improve the few weapons they had by gluing or taping cutlery to them, he gently put his hand on her shoulder; making her jump.
“You okay?” he tilted his head with a soft expression, and she felt her face heat up under his gaze.
“Yeah, just thinking about things,” she answered quietly, fingers picking at her tail now.
Loud scratching sounds and moaning echoed from above, clearly, Miss Lorn and her boyfriend had turned.
It was a shame, Miss Lorn had been routing for her and Felix to finally get together.
“I should make a trip back to the building soon,” Minho yawned before slurping up some noodles, making her cringe a bit, “the vending machines have so many things in them, and we have fruit vending machines too, so it isn’t all crap,” he waved his chopsticks around in the air as he spoke and the action made Felix grin.
“Hyung,” Felix started with a sigh, “if you are going back to that building, then we are all going back to that building,” he pointed out with a firm tone and then looked to the Hybrid, “No splitting up this time either, I can’t handle that again,” he admitted and flushed a deep red when his free hand was grabbed by her.
“I don’t think any of us can,” Minho explained, and the admission seemed to catch Felix by surprise as his eyes widened, teeth soon showing in an affection smile which only made Minho regret speaking as he suddenly became a bit shy under the gaze of his younger friend.
“Shut up,” he muttered making the other two laugh.
“Let’s save the trip for a few more days, we have enough food and enough bottled water to last until then,” she flinched at the spiciness of her noodles and immediately felt her nose start to run as she tried to calm her body down, “honestly, I think the only things we are low on are toilet paper and,” she cleared her throat feeling a bit awkward, “ladies things,” she sniffed loudly as she began to pant quietly at the spiciness still coursing through her mouth.
“Ladies things,” Minho nodded his head as if he was keeping that information, “right,” he added making Felix shake his head.
“Hyung, you don’t have sisters, do you even know what she means by that?” Felix asked with genuine curiosity before yelping when Minho flicked the side of his head.
“I have a mother and a brain,” Minho looked at her with a determined look on his face, “I’ll make sure to look in the women’s restroom, I know that they have those machines in there,” he noticed that she became more relaxed at the information despite currently looking incredibly uncomfortable with the noodles.
“Why do you have spicy noodles when you clearly can’t handle them?” he laughed when she let out a puppy whine in between her panting and she quickly rushed to the water bottles, downing half of it.
“She doesn’t like the fact that she can’t have spicy food; she knows that it’s tasty and that makes her eat it,” Felix explained with an eye roll.
“Shut up,” she pouted and nudged the back of his head with hers, “not my fault that you and Minho have iron tongues,” she grinned at the laughter that came from them, and she could almost mistake this for a normal day.
One without creatures from horror media running around the place with their flesh falling off.
“But seriously,” Minho started, and she immediately felt the light-hearted atmosphere die, “we need to go back to the building, get the supplies, women’s bathroom,” he pointed at her, “we also need to figure out how to find the others,” he looked to Felix who nodded with a melancholy expression.
“I am pretty sure that we can find Changbin and Hyunjin close by,” swirling his noodles in thought, Minho puffed out his cheeks in frustration as he tried to remember when he had last met up with them, “the only issue is getting to their part of town,”
“Why is that?” she asked taking her seat once more and braving the spice.
“Usually, we need to take a train to get to them,” Felix answered with a very worried tone, “the easiest way to get there would be to go through the train tunnel because it just leads right there without having to jump over fences and ducking and diving into hiding spots,” he added, taking a small sip of his water.
“It’s super dark in the tunnels though and the electricity isn’t exactly reliable at the moment,” Minho groaned slumping in his chair.
“We have the lights on our phones though?” Felix noted, “The internet is down but our phones can still function without the internet,” he explained but then paused as he checked his phone, just to see how little battery he had left.
“Do you guys have any flashlights?” Minho asked watching as the hybrid got to her feet and searched the cupboard under the kitchen sink.
“We do,” she answered with a slight cheer and tested the switch just to make sure, her face falling a bit as the light was quite dimmed due to the old batteries and she continued her search for the jar of charged batteries she and Felix had kept.
“Here,” she smiled as she showed them how bright it now was with new batteries before switching it off, “I can also help,” she pointed to her eyes, “My eyes are a lot more dog-like than human and they can see well in the dark; so any area that isn’t lit by a light, I can see for all of us,” she beamed at the smiles that were now looking at her.
“You hybrids are honestly, a gift,” Minho slurped up some victory noodles, eyeing Felix as his younger friends' gaze stayed on the hybrid girl.
“I wouldn’t say that,” she replied with a quiet voice, clearly quite flustered at the comment, “I’d just thank biology,”
“You’re amazing,” Felix insisted quickly and gently nudged her leg with his foot, “take the compliment,”
She simply nodded bashfully as they settled down to finally finish their food.
----------------
“Don’t,” she whispered as she noticed Minhos hands coming close to opening the front door; her finger pressed to her lips and her ear firmed against the door as she listened for danger.
“I think somebody has broken out of their apartment,” she kept her voice low, “I can hear so many footsteps out in the corridor, but I can’t fully tell what floor the noise is on,” she chewed her bottom lip and Felix placed a comforting hand on her shoulder when she knelt back down to listen more.
“If you think it’s unsafe, we stay,” Felix reassured her and he looked to Minho who just nodded in agreement, clearly staying quiet to try and listen as well.
“Wait,” she waved her hand at them both to silence them.
Her eyes closed as she tried to focus on the small, whining noise from a few apartments down, the voice was very familiar to her and they were crying out for help.
“Somebody is asking for help,” she let out a response whine to let the other know they had been heard.
“I can’t hear anybody?” Minho frowned as he tried to arch his head in a different direction to try and hear better.
“Me either,” Felix agreed.
“No, no,” she shook her head, “it’s another dog,”
“Another hybrid lives on this floor?” Felix said with a surprised, wide-eyed expression.
“It’s Pepie,” she stated with another whine, “he’s on his own,” she looked to the two men currently staring down at her.
“Wait, Pepie as in Pepie the Yorkshire Terrier, Pepie?” Felix finally connected the dots and then smiled in disbelief, “you can communicate with full dogs?” he asked with a small laugh and she nodded.
“You never told me that!”
“It never came up!”
“Guys,” Minho hissed and pushed his hand down as a signal to keep their voices down, “are we saving this dog?” he asked with a look on his face that told everyone he had already decided that they were.
“I’m doing this by myself, they’re only a couple of doors down,” she stated and got to her feet, looking at Felix when he grabbed her wrist.
“Together or you stay here,” he stated firmly and although she wanted to argue, she knew there wasn’t much point; especially when she looked at Minho and found that he shared the same expression as Felix.
“Okay, but please,” she sighed, “let me go out first so I can try and pinpoint where these arseholes are,”
Slowly opening the front door, she peered her head out, baton now in her hand a squeaky toy for a distraction in the other.
Nothing moved in the corridor, but she knew that they could easily hide in the shadows.
The lights had been flickering on and off for several days now and the sound had been getting on her nerves but during the small window when the lights were on, she could see silhouettes wandering around outside the double doors that led to their corridor.
“Right side, clear,” she whispered and noted the hums that answered her back.
Looking to the left had never been so anxiety inducing as she could already smell a significant amount of blood and something coming from that direction.
She could see a few small piles of remains littering the corridor, chunks of grey-ish flesh drying out as they had been left by the zombies, clearly even zombies had a desired taste.
“Left isn’t” she noted upon finally being able to see two zombies staring at the wall together, heads snapping backward and forwards as if they were glitching, the clunk of their teeth making her shrink into herself.
“How many?” came Minho’s voice.
“Two,” she replied, “if we sneak, we could take them down quietly,” she suggested and all three of them came out of the apartment crouching; Felix made sure to close the front door but left it unlocked so they could hurry back if anything went wrong.
“Out of the way,” Minho pushed them behind him protectively as he practically crawled towards the two zombies, barbed wire bat twirling in his strong hands.
Both Felix and her held their breath as they watched Minho bravely trudge forward, a mess of blood smearing against his shoes and up his trousers.
The smell of the gunk he was sneaking through made him stop; having to swallow down his vomit as he pushed himself forward and as soon as he got to the zombies, he lunged at them.
The bat made a satisfying clunk as they smashed into the heads of the creatures, black blood and melted skin sticking to the walls as their bodies fell.
“Go, go,” Felix patted her back before hurrying forward to where Minho was staring at the bodies, “you good?” he touched Minho’s arm and the other man looked to him with a tired smile.
“Yeah,”
Peering behind them, they noticed that she had been pressing her ear to each door she went passed, clearly not sure where Pepie lived, exactly.
“Pep?” she whispered and let out the quietest whine she could muster, hoping she wouldn’t draw the attention of the zombies on the other side.
“Hybrid Lady?”
She gasped as she heard the whimpering coming from apartment 8J and placed her hand on the handle, testing it to see if it was unlocked, and to her disbelief, it was.
“Pepie, it’s Hybrid Lady and two friends,” she made sure to make that known as she knew he’d most likely panic and start barking and that was the last thing that they needed right now.
When she got the door open, she nearly let out a shriek when a small brown and grey bundle charged at her and landed in her arms, shaking and licking her face in gratitude.
“You came to get me, thank you!” he whimpered, and she shared a sad but comforting whine with him, “my mum and dad didn’t come home, I’ve been stuck in there with my brother, Harvey,”
This piqued her interest, and she tilted her head to the side.
“Harvey?” she looked to Felix and Minho who were watching the two of them with utter confusion on their faces.
“He’s a bunny,” Pepie let out a mumph as he spoke, “in a cage,”
“There’s a rabbit in there,” she informed them, and Felix immediately went in with Minho quickly following.
“Do you guys have food in there?” she asked and this time, Pepie was the one to til his head to the side.
“In the cupboard above the toaster,” he informed her, and she slowly made her way in, struggling a bit with the weight of the dog.
Pepie was a bigger Yorkshire Terrier, being just slightly smaller than a fully grown Cocker Spaniel.
“Guys, they have food in that cupboard!” she pointed to the one Pepie had told her about and Minho ordered Felix to go, clearly quite enamored with the bunny in the cage that he was holding.
It didn’t take that long to finally, get back inside their apartment and they piled their usual barricade up against the front door.
Pepie was currently nosing at the cage, making sure his brother was okay and his soft chuffs made her look over with a warm feeling in her heart at the sight.
There was still much more life out there, that wasn’t just humans and hybrids, but that were just as important.
“So,” Felix grunted as he offloaded the dog and rabbit food onto the kitchen counter, his hands on his hips, “you can talk to dogs?” he chuckled feeling quite exhausted.
“Well...those who speak the language!” she pointed out with a slight annoyance in her tone as she remembered the time she had gone to France and couldn’t understand a very lost Poodle, who was asking for help.
“Is it all animals?” Minho asked as he knelt by the rabbit cage and wiggled his finger at the lionhead, who hopped over, and both nibbled and licked at him.
“Just dogs,” she replied with melancholy as she also looked at the rabbit, wondering what he was saying.
“Hyung is in love,” Felix whispered with a giggle, and she shared that thought, also giggling, catching Minho’s murderous gaze.
“I’ll lock you two outside, I swear,”

Chapter 1
Tumblr media
You moved through the relatively quiet city. The world had gone silent a long time ago, since the thing started infecting people, they had claimed it to be a rabies mutation... but these people weren't dying to a fever or choking on their foam. They kept going, the only thing that would kill them was multiple shots to the brain, even that was risky, some of them didn't die to that anyway...
You saw a gas station that looked in fairly good condition, circling around the back, as you suspected, the staff door was open, you entered, gun at the ready, looking around you found most of the canned food gone but managed to find some chips, shoving them into your bag. You looked around the small store and made your way to the drink section, alcohol was gone, just your luck, you spotted a fairly large bottle of water on the very top shelf and jumped for it, cursing your height. You climbed the shelf and grabbed the water before jumping back down, squeezing it into your bag as you looked toward the medical area.
You looked around for pain killers, bandages, anything. Your eyes widened at the sight of one singular bottle of acetaminophen pills. You moved for it at the same time someone came around the corner. You put your gun up, the man put up his, eyes wide with fear. He wasn't too tall, with broad shoulders and a tired but sweet face.
"I kinda need that." He said, reaching for the pain killer.
You cocked your gun. "I don't think you do."
He pulled his hand back, his eyes registering you as a threat before he too cocked his gun. "You wouldn't understand."
"The world needs this shit." You huffed. "You're not the only one, plus I found it first."
He glared at you, dark eyes narrowing.
You turned as you heard something behind you. There was another man, with thin eyes and dark hair, his gun was also pointed at you.
"Chan." He said, his voice was fairly high. "Do you need some help?"
"Yeah." The first man said, grabbing the pain killers, it was a 2v1...
"You should leave," another voice made you look up, there was a thin but lean boy with bleach blonde hair on the shelf staring down at you.
The first man, Chan, looked at him. "Felix, get down before you hurt yourself.”
The skinny boy on the shelf muttered and jumped down. The three had you surrounded.
“Jeongin.” Felix motioned to your gun. “Disarm her.”
The thin eyed boy, Jeongin, moved for your gun and you spun to aim at him, the first man, Chan, grabbed your arm tried to twist it, you elbowed him hard in the face, he cursed and stumbled, the third man, Felix, was about to jump on you when the sound filled the store. The groaning and heaved struggled breathing, you all froze in fear, a man missing half his face trudged into the gas station. You held your breath, it couldn’t see, both eyes were missing. Chan looked at you and motioned for you to stay silent, as if you were an idiot.
You stood to your full height, quietly, gripping your gun tightly. Then the thin eyed boy, Jeongin, bumped into the shelf. The infected turned and started running towards the noise, the boy froze in fear and against your better judgement you grabbed his collar and pulled him back from the area. You slapped your hand over his mouth as the zombie waved its arms around before giving up and trudging away.
Chan’s eyes were on you, wide and shocked.
You released Jeongin and took slow steps back, pulling your mask over your face and running quietly out of the store through the back again.
Chan was in shock, Felix was in shock, Jeongin was trembling as he tried to understand what just happened.
“Who was that?” Felix asked, finally breaking the silence of the car.
“I don’t know.” Chan squeezed the wheel tightly. “Jeongin.”
The boy looked up.
“What did I tell you about being careful?” Chan glared at him through the rearview mirror.
“Sorry.” Jeongin said quietly.
The car was silent again.
After a moment Felix asked. “Did you get the pain killers?”
“Yeah they’re-” Chan touched his jacket pocket, it was empty. He bristled. “What the fuck? They were in here.”
Felix put his face in his hands. “Minho needs those.”
“You think I don’t know that?” Chan grit his teeth as he remembered pulling your arm, you must’ve taken them from him then.
“This isn’t fair.” Jeongin said quietly. “We just let her go.”
“She saved your life.” Chan said. “Don’t bad mouth her for that.”
The group went quiet again.
They passed by a house where a tall man with big eyes came out running.
“Chan-” Felix started.
Chan pressed the gas.
“We can help him-” Jeongin said before attempting to unlock his door.
Chan put the child lock on.
“Chan!” Jeongin shouted.
The sound of a gunshot made Felix look back, his eyes widening. “It’s her!”
Chan slammed the breaks and they screeched to a halt. He grabbed his gun and turned out of his window, seeing an infected rushing you and the man full speed. He shot it clean through the head. You looked up and his eyes met yours. The man you were with looked toward the car and tensed.
You held up the pain killers. Chan frowned slightly.
“We should, go get them...” Felix said quietly.
Chan sighed and sat back for a moment, before putting the car into reverse.
He stared at you. You stared at him.
“Name?” he asked as you got in the car.
"None of your business." the man with you said.
Chan's eyes narrowed. "Then get the hell out."
"y/n." You said locking eyes with him in the rearview mirror.
"Hm?" He gave your companion a sideways glance.
"I'm not saying sh-"
You elbowed him. "This is Seonghwa."
Seonghwa's eyes narrowed at Chan.
"Felix." Felix turned from the front passenger's seat and smiled at you.
"Jeongin." He turned and smiled sheepishly. "Thank you for saving me."
"Don't mention it." You muttered.
Chan put the car into drive and you watched the scenery go by. "Where are we going?"
"Home." Felix said looking out the window.
Your brows furrowed. "Where is that?"
He smirked. "You'll see."
Chan shot him a glare.
Felix shut up.
Why was he being all friendly with you like you weren't just the person who stole a drug their friend so desperately needed.
"They aren't coming with us." Chan gripped the wheel tightly.
"Good." Seonghwa started.
You shot him a glare. "Why can't we come with you?"
"Too many people, not enough resources." Chan reasoned.
"Then why did you bother picking us up?" You snapped.
Chan stopped the car and turned to look at you. "My people come first, you took something I needed for my people, in what world am I obligated to help you."
You held up the acetaminophen. "We'll give you this, we need a place to stay."
Felix's eyes widened slightly.
Chan glared at you. "Keep your shit."
"Chan!" Jeongin sat up.
The man glared at the younger boy before looking at you again. "I don't need your stuff, I get you away from the red zones and you leave us alone."
"No need." Seonghwa pushed the door open and grabbed your arm, pulling you out. "Leave." He huffed.
Chan was about to press the gas when Felix blurted. "Minho's fever could kill him! What are you doing!"
"Yongbok!" Chan shouted.
You stared at them. "Who's dying?"
You looked at Seonghwa, his expression relaxed slightly.
Felix looked at you.
"Our friend.." Jeongin said quietly. "He has an infection, we've got the antibiotics and everything but the fever won't stay down."
You inhaled deeply. "You don't have anyone who knows how to deal with that."
Chan bristled.
"The best we've got can't do anything.." Felix put his head in his hands.
"Let me help you." You muttered.
Chan squeezed the wheel and looked at you. "Is that angry Pomeranian coming with you?"
You snorted a laugh at the name he gave Seonghwa. "He stays with me."
Seonghwa huffed. "I'd rather be a Pomeranian than a gorilla."
Chan gave him a disgusted look. "Get in." He rolled his eyes.

"Here." the man simply said while dropping the bag on the table in front of you.
He gestured at his men to open the door behind you as a way to inform you this little meeting was over. However, you didn't budge.
Instead, you took the bag to see the content of it, and frowned. "The deal was 10 silvers and a pack of cigarettes."
"No, no. The deal was 10 silvers and a pack of cigarette if you did the job correctly."
"Which I did."
He started to laugh before taking another shot of whiskey. "I asked you to steal the radio and get SKZ's location from them. You only got the radio. Therefore, you only get the cigarettes."
"You're kidding, right?"
He shrugged, fiddling around with his glass. Not answering your question, he poured himself another drink. Before he could bring it to his lips, you took his glass harshly from his grasp and threw it accross the room.
"What the fuck, woman!" he shouted angrily.
"You fucking asked me an impossible task, plus bringing you a most likely broken radio from the restricted area, made me infiltrate a fucking government base to steal infos and you're thanking me with fucking cigarettes." You slamed the bag in front of him, giving him a glare. "The deal included 10 silvers. I want them."
"Sweetheart, you know it doesn't work like this." he chuckled with a smug smile on his face.
You shut your eyes in disgust of the infamous nickname he gave you. "Don't fuck with me, give me the silvers."
He got up from his seat and signaled to his men to shut the door. The already stinky room was filled by the alcohol's odor, making you want to puke. How could this man drink so many shots without being dead already?
He paused a moment, looking at the ground, before he spoke again. "Do you want to find your little friend or not?"
"What does this have to do with this?"
"Y/N, I know you want the silvers to go across the country to find your friend. That is if he isn't infected yet, of course. What I'm saying is, there is a reason I'm not giving you those silvers."
"That's what this is about? About you not losing your best dealer?"
He laughed, again. "At least you know you're the best. Not only that but we have helped each other so much in the last six years. You're like a daughter to me, I'd hate to see something bad happen to you."
You smiled sarcastically. "And yet, you've sent me away to die thousands of times just so I could do the job for you."
"Because you are the best I have." he pointed out again.
You were getting tired of this. Frankly, you just wanted to get the damn silvers and go to bed. However, you knew the man and he wouldn't let you have what you wanted so easily. With that in mind, you seemed to have only but one option to get out of this.
"Alright then. I guess I'm not leaving today." you sighed, standing up from your chair. "I do want one thing if I don't get the money." He stepped closer with a curious look on his face. "I want to know if Changbin ever sends something on this radio."
He smiled. "Done deal." You nodded before heading towards the door. "And Y/N?"
You stopped on your tracks, rolling your eyes. "What?"
"I better see you tomorrow morning, I have another job for you."
Ignoring him, you resumed your way to the exit. Once outside, the sirens couldn't be any louder. In all of places, you had to be at the worst safe haven of the country where only dealers, smugglers, thiefs and many others lived. You were grateful your uncle was renowned enough for the other rebellious groups to leave you alone, but that also meant you had to do all of his work for him. If not, you were dead meat for sure.
When you arrived at your half torn down apartment, you jumped as soon as you walked in, as you were welcomed by an unannounced man sitting on your couch.
"Yeonjun, what the fuck?" you shouted, closing the door behind you. "I told you to not fucking burst into my place randomly like that."
"I know, but I kind of had nowhere else to go."
This was enough said for you to know he got in trouble, again. "Who was it this time? Beomgyu? Taehyun?" you asked while serving yourself a beer, offering one to your former partner.
He took the bottle and drank from it before talking. "Soobin."
You frowned. "I thought he was off to the west zone."
"So we thought, but turns out he had an encounter with SKZ, and he's been taken hostage. We tried to free him, but fucking stupid Beomgyu crashed into a pole and now all of them are taken away."
"And why are you here?"
He rolled his eyes. "To ask you for your help, obviously."
"No, I know that. But why are you not with them?"
"I jumped out of the car before it crashed. Hid until they all left and came here as soon as it was clear."
You shook your head in disbelief. "No matter how much I'm trying to cut you off from my life, you're still going to involve me in your stupid schemes."
"You're quite literally the best fighter, sniper, liar and also the prettiest I know."
You almost choked on your drink from his words. "We're not going to fuck again, Yeonjun. Stop with the flirting."
He held his hands up. "It was just a joke, relax. But for real, I really need your help."
"I don't deal with SKZ."
"They're just another gang, what's the big deal?"
"They're not feared by the whole country for no reason. I support their whole rebellion shit, but they're taking it a bit far."
SKZ were an anonymous group of rebels. When more people were starting to get infected, the government put the country in war mode. They established curfews, safe zones, duties, everything they could have control on anything that you could think of. As the years passed, they started to like this kind of power, meaning they did close to no research on a cure. Groups against the new regime started to form, but the most well-known of them was SKZ. Apparently, they were formed in the south part of the country, the area with the most infected. They ravaged headquarters, gathered information about the virus so their team could study them in order to find a cure. They had great intentions, but anyone on their way would be one of their victims. And that now included your ex-fling and smuggling partner's own gang.
"Y/N, please."
"No, I saved your butt enough times." You walked to your room and he followed you behind, still bombarding you with 'help me', 'this one time', 'please'... "I said no!" you grunted, closing the door on his face.
You dropped on your bed, sore from your morning task. As you were already starting to doze off, a creek from your door did not allow you to go to sleep just yet.
"Yeonjun, go away." you mumbled, eyes still closed.
The man didn't listen and sat next to your laid down body on the bed. "What if I say I can help you find Changbin?"
Your eyes shot open and you stared at Yeonjun. "Don't." you warned.
"Y/N, I swear I'm not kidding. I know where he is."
"How? You barely go outside of the limits."
"Just... Trust me on this one." he spoke softly. "Look, we've had our ups and downs and I understand how unreliable I am to you. There is one thing that I can assure you, and that is I never would mess with you with this. I know how much it means to you."
He took your hand in his and gave you one last pleading look. You were hesitant. You didn't know if you could trust him, but at this point, who could you really trust? Plus, Yeonjun has always been around. Even if he was a pain in the ass, he might be the only recurrent person in your life other than your uncle and his deals.
"If I learn this is a whole fucking joke-"
"I swear it's not!"
"But if it is... you owe me 1000 silvers, a car and your dead body." you smiled.
"So, you're going to help me?" he stared at you in shock.
"Yeah, sure. As if I have anything better to do."
As you were making your way up the ladder, you couldn't ignore the undistinguished noises Yeonjun was making as he was following you closely.
"Can you shut up?" you half-whispered.
"I didn't know you were thinking of leaving during the night. There is a fucking curfew, Y/N. You know what that means? Agents everywhere and going against the law!" he whispered back quite aggressively. "Also, how the fuck do you know the way to the other side from the sewers?"
"Okay, first of all, a curfew means no one's outside. Less chances of getting spotted. Second of all, we've gone against the law so many times, I don't get why you think it's a problem now. And third of all." you stopped climbing and stared down at him. "I've been outside the limits a few times. Now, are we done? Can we just move and get there before it's morning?"
Yeonjun's eyes went wide as he shook his head in yes. "My bad..."
Satisfied, you continued to climb up. When you finally reached the lid of the manhole, you pushed it up carefully, staying alert in case there would be agents on duty close by. Once you made sure it was clear, you pushed the lid so you could get out. You helped out Yeonjun and you both pushed the lid back into its place.
"Alright, so are you sure they went to District 9?" you whispered.
"For the nth time, yes." he said with annoyance.
"How are you so sure?"
"Dude, I heard them loud and clear."
"They might have said this to trick you?"
"Y/N, focus!"
You tried to remember the quickest way to the fences. Agents were everywhere, and what bothered you the most was Yeonjun not being the most careful, as he kept questioning you on why you knew how to get out.
Finally, you reached a part of the fences that surrounded the city. Yeonjun gasped in amazement, much to your discouragement. Sighing, you headed towards the underground tunner that some kids had dug a few days ago.
"Go first."
Nodding, Yeonjun followed your orders. Once he was on the other side, you copied his action and, soon enough, you both had crossed the limits. Once you got to the other side, you could already feel how different it was from the build closed community. The air was much heavier and actual forms of life were rare. There was already an infected who spotted you, who signaled to his other infect friend there was a meal for them.
"Shit." you muttered.
The monster was already running in your direction, and fast. You took a bar of metal that was randomly (and conveniently) lying at your feet, and you ran to it before swinging your weapon to his head, ripping it off its body. The second infected was next to head toward you and you instinctively pierced the bar through it, making it drop on the ground. When you turned back to check on Yeonjun, he could only stare at you with wide eyes and his breath unsteady.
"Now what?" he gulped.
"Follow me." you said, running towards an old building, visibly abandoned.
Only, it was just that. Visibly abandoned. As soon as you turned the corner, you were met with a bunch of men, four of them, masks hiding the bottom half of their faces while pointing guns at you.
"Fuck." Yeonjun said in a low tone while holding his hands up in the air.
"We were waiting for you." one of the men spoke.
"Oh, so them saying they would be in District 9 wasn't a trap?" you sarcastically asked Yeonjun, pettiness overflowing.
"I was convinced they didn't see me." he said in defense.
"We didn't." the man talked again. "But we knew you were there. Now, mind to follow us?"
"Okay, so now y'all are being polite?" Yeonjun scoffed and you kicked his leg. "Fine, let's follow them bluntly, I guess."
The men led you inside the building, holding onto your arms with guns still pointing at you. This was the exact reason you wanted nothing to do with SKZ, they could catch anyone and they were not afraid to use the weapons they had.
After walking endlessly in a hallway, you reached an elevator. You were surprised it was still functional, as most of the things in the infected zones were destroyed. Once the doors shut, one of the men pushed the button to the basement. Of course, it was the basement. You would've thought they'd be more original with where they kept their hostages.
"Are we meeting your big boss?" you asked in a joking tone.
"You're joining your friends." one responded.
When the doors opened, you didn't waste a second to take the gun from the man who was grabbing your arm, twisting it so he would let go. Hitting him on the head, he fell onto the ground. Meanwhile, Yeonjun copied you and also managed to disarm two other men. As for the last one, he held his gun to you.
"Don't waste my time, give me the gun." you said boringly.
He glanced at his friends on the ground, who were massaging their heads from the hits, and they all seemed to be in agreement to just let you be. They knew the others would take care of the both of you, anyway. You took the gun and didn't hesitate to give him a good punch in the face, making him fall next to his friends.
"Let's go." you nodded your head to Yeonjun.
As he was walking by your side, he started rambling again. "That, right there, was fucking awesome! There was a reason why I came to you for help. If it was someone else, I'm sure I'd probably be-"
"Dead? Yeah, well, you'll be if you don't shut up." you whispered loudly.
By the end of the hallway, you could see a large closed door that was seemingly locked. Pretty convinced it was where they detained the others, you made your way to it.
"I guess that's it." you mumbled.
When you reached it, you searched in your bag to see if you had anything that could help you open the door. Noticing you were short in terms of tools, you figured Yeonjun brought something that might be useful.
"Got something?" you asked, but when there was no response, you looked around and Yeonjun was nowhere to be found. "Jun?" you called out.
Just then you were suddenly tackled onto the ground. You met eyes with a young man with freckles.
"You don't look like an SKZ member to me. Who are you?" he asked, restraining you as you tried to push him off.
"Doesn't matter." you managed to breathe out.
"It does to us."
"I guess you'll have to find out another day."
Kicking him in his lower abdomen, you freed yourself and grabbed your knife from you bag. When you were about to throw it to the boy, a hand grabbed your arm, stopping your motion. The stranger twisted your wrist, loosening your grip on the knife. He took it from you and inspected it for a bit.
"Felix, go see if Minho, Jeongin, Hyunjin and Seungmin are fine." he said, his voice low.
The freckled boy, now up onto his feet, nodded and headed to the elevator you were previously coming down from.
"I didn't expect Yeonjun to bring a friend." he said, now talking to you.
He led you to the door you were trying to open not even 2 minutes ago. In contrary of what you thought, it was a simple empty room with a single lamp as its source of light. He threw you to the ground and closed the door behind him. He sighed loudly before walking to you, crouching down to be at your level.
"Now, as my friend asked. Who are you?" You only stared at him, not a sound slipping from your mouth. "Do you know why we took your friends?" No answer. "Why are you here?"
"For no reason, just to enjoy a different environment I guess, just like y'all do."
He didn't expect you to answer this time. "Looks like you don't know much about us, sweetheart."
You cringed at the nickname. Hearing it from someone other than your uncle was odd. Even just hearing it from your uncle was uncomfortable.
"Maybe I don't. Honestly, I don't give a fuck about who you are." You crossed your arms and gave him a bored look.
"Maybe you don't. Still, I think a little introduction can be helpful. I'm Christopher Bang, leader of SKZ." Unfazed, you were still staring at him. "And you are?"
"Tired and annoyed."
He chuckled at your answer. "I like you." He stood up and started to walk back and forth in the room. "I shall contimue then. SKZ is a group of rebels, as people call us, whose purpose is to take down the government's new policy in order to restore some sort of purpose among the population. We're also trying to find a cure for the infection and we, as you might have seen, have many people against us. Your friends were trying to get to our secret base to steal a drug we use during our experiments. They wanted to sell it to make profit off of it."
"Sounds like them." you huffed.
He smiled at your comment. "We've dealt with TXT before, but you're a new one. I've never seen you, I believe."
"Like I said, I literally don't give a fuck about y'all. I just do my thing on my side."
"Then, why are you here?"
"Ask Yeonjun."
Sighing at your lack of engagement in the conversation, he stopped walking around to turn his body to face you. "You took out half of my squad back in the elevator, I want to know who I'm dealing with."
Half? All this time, you thought SZK had hundreds of members around the country. There were eight of them? This new information was surprising, to say the least.
"Sweetheart?" he called out since you were not answering him.
"How-"
You were interrupted when the door opened. When your gaze shifted towards the door to see who had joined, your met eyes with the person you least expected to see. For a moment, you felt as if time had stopped as you exchanged looks.
"Bin?" you breathed out, your heart pounding.
There stood, alive and well, Changbin. "Holy fuck! What are you doing here?" he exclaimed, running to hold you into his arms.
His embrace was warm and felt like home. After so many years, you felt at ease and tears were streaming down your face.
"Where the fuck were you? I searched for you everywhere." you cried out.
"I'm sorry, baby. I'm here now, it's all good."
When you finally let go of him, he turned to Chris, who was clearly confused on what was happening. "Care to explain, Changbin?"
"She's her. She's Y/N."
Tumblr media
Holding the ice pack to his head, Minho was mumbling some curses, still sore from your attacks.
"I'm sorry." you said shyly and he nodded his head in acknowledgement.
"So, Y/N." Chris started. "Can we do this interrogation again, please?"
You had moved to a small office, Minho tagging along. With knowing that Changbin was there, you felt more relaxed. However, it didn't stop you from being on your guard. Changbin might be a friend you've been looking for in the past 6 years, but him being part of SKZ changed things a little. You couldn't fully trust those men.
"Sure."
"Good. Who are you?"
"I'm Y/N. Been pretty much alone since everything started. I was a neighbour of Changbin and we grew up together. He was my closest friend. I've been trying to find him ever since the walls have been put up." you said, keeping it honest, but short.
"What I'm getting from this is that you're against the government as well?" he asked and you nodded. "Why were you with TXT?"
"I'm only here because Yeonjun quite literally begged me to help him get his friends. I didn't ask questions, I just wanted the job done."
"There was something in exchange?"
You paused, hesitantly, but nodded. "He said he knew where Changbin was."
From your answer, he got up and walked out of the room, leaving you and Minho alone. You smiled awkwardly at the man, who gave you a glare, still pissed at your previous encounter.
Outside, Chris had joined Changbin and Felix to talk. He didn't know what to do with you, and something was stopping from either releasing you, or finishing you off.
"Changbin." he called out and the man immediately focused his attention on his leader. "You know her. So, what's her deal?"
"I can't know for sure, I haven't seen her in years. She is colder than before, for sure. I doubt she is lying, though, but I can't be certain."
"Okay. What do I do with her? She might be lying and has tried to steal something from us."
"Honestly, Chan, I'd give her the benefit of the doubt." Changbin said.
With that, he went back to the office, encountering a rather uncomfortable silence between you and Minho. He coughed a bit before sitting back in front of you.
"Do you have any reason we should believe you?" Chan asked, continuing the interrogation.
"I'm repeating myself, but I quite don't care about what y'all do, and I am not fond of the authorities either."
"A reason we shouldn't believe you?"
"There are many, but one is that you don't know me."
"Your relationship with Yeonjun?"
"He used to work with me... and sleep with me."
"Have you crossed roads with any infected?"
"Two on our way here. I killed both."
"Did you get bitten?"
"Do you see a mark?
"No..." he trailed off.
This kept going for while, and Chan was strarting to be very precise with his questions, as he was wondering why you were on your own and why were you looking so desperately for Changbin. Until then, you were short with your responses, much to Chan's dislike. After a while, Minho, who had been observing the interraction this whole time, stepped forward to take the seat next to you.
Interrupting the conversation, he grunted in annoyance. "Chan, she seems fine to me. Can you just let her go? We're wasting time here."
"No wait." Chan paused, inspecting your traits. "I have some questions, concerning your skills."
"My skills?" you said, confused. "I think you saw them."
"I just know you knocked out my members, killed two infected, do some stupid deals in the city and fucked Yeonjun." he summed up while giving you a blank stare.
"Fucking is a skill?" you scoffed.
"I'm just repeating what you said, sweetheart. Now, skills?"
"I fight, I kill, I spy, I steal, I negociate and I lie." you listed and your last point seemed to grab Chan's attention. "Also, I don't owe shit to anyone."
"Have you thought of joining a group?"
"I told you, I'm on my own."
"But do you like it this way?"
You thought for a moment. Did you? "Yes."
Chan laughed and shook his head. "You're not so much of a good liar there, sweetheart."
You rolled your eyes. "Let's say I do fine alone but being alone can be rough at times."
Minho whined loudly once more. Not only did he have to listen to this whole pointless conversation, but he had to suffer from the tension happening between you and Chris, and he had to see his leader ask a hundred questions before getting to the point. It was very unlikely him, who would usually not bother talk and kill those who are on his path. With you, however, it seemed more like a game. It might be a fun one when in it, but Minho was done observing.
"He's asking you to join SKZ." Minho spilled out, going straight to the point.
"Thank you, Minho." Chan said, giving his friend a death stare.
Thinking about it, being on SKZ's good sad wasn't too bad of an idea. They are great fighters and took care of their business quickly, from what you've heard. Nonetheless, you still had your friends in mind, who remained detained at the moment. If joining the infamous rebels meant you could get them out, you might be able to help them out, after all.
"What do I have in exchange?" you asked, which took Chan by surprise.
"You would join us?"
You shrugged. "Depends on the offer."
"Of course, you'd ask something in return." Chan shook his head. "What do you want?"
"Release my friends. And give Yeonjun 1k silvers, he needs it. Also, I want to choose my own weapons and I still want to be able to do my uncle's deals. Last thing, I want to talk with Changbin, alone."
Chan looked at you curiously. You didn't ask anything for yourself, except talking with Changbin. For a world nearing its end, you were surprisingly selfless.
"Deal."
Tumblr media
Yeonjun came to visit you a few days after. He thanked you a thousand times for what you had done for him but you weren't so happy with how things turned out. While you were close to punching Chan in the face, your friend had been nothing but grateful to the man.
"He really wanted to kill us, you know?"
You rolled your eyes while sharpening the knife you were gifted earlier that day. "I'm literally the one who saved you, but sure. Thank Chan for being such a good person."
Yeonjun frowned, hearing your tone. "You don't sound too fond of him."
"I asked for a moment with Changbin, and he still hasn't allowed me to stay in a room alone with him. It's almost been a week."
"You tend to be impatient-"
"I've waited for six years, Jun." you cut him off, pointing the knife at him. "I am patient, but I have limits."
He lifted his hands up in defense and sighed as you went back to sharpening. The building was so quiet, it was almost sickening. While you thought there would be more action in the group, there was almost nothing to do. Seungmin and Minho were in charge of looking into a cure and the remaining of them were mostly simply guarding the place. As for Chan, he and Changbin were nowhere to be seen.
"Do you know why he joined them?" Yeonjun asked.
"That's exactly what I'm wondering myself."
Just then, Felix walked in the room and took the seat next to Yeonjun, waving at you two. You nodded your head at him and focused back on the blade. Twirling it around, you sighed in boredom.
"Doing some training?" Felix asked.
"No, there's just nothing to do in this shithole." you deadpanned at him. "Weren't you on the lookout?"
"Changbin took over."
You huffed in disbelief. "It's as if Chris is doing everything in his power for me to not meet him."
"He will let you two talk eventually." he assured. "He's still on his guard with you, that's all."
"Sure." you spat out as you got up on your feet.
"What are you doing?" Yeonjun frowned, Felix having the same expression.
"I'm going to talk with Chan." you declared, walking towards the exit.
The boys didn't seem opposed to your idea, so they let you leave, although Felix did look more concerned. You had no idea where Chan could be. The building was so huge, you were barely starting familiarize yourself with the ground level. You soon spotted Hyunjin from afar and didn't waste a moment to run to him.
"Hey, Y/N." he smiled, his eyes almost closing.
"Do you know where Chan is?"
Startled by your lack of courtesy, he nodded his head nonetheless as he pointed to a door nearby.
"Thanks." you said as you left him there.
"He's with Seungmin, just saying." he yelled out but you ignored him.
You stormed into the room and the two men at your sudden entrance. While Seungmin got up with his gun pointing at you, Chan reached his hand out to him as a way to tell him to lower his weapon. You stared at him, unimpressed. He motioned for Seungmin to leave the two of you alone. As the door closed, he invited you to sit with him.
"What is it?"
You looked at him, baffled. "That's it? What is it? I know you know."
He nodded. "Changbin, isn't it?"
"Obviously..."
He shrugged. "What about him?"
"Stop messing with me, Chris." you warned, getting up to lean on the desk to get closer to him.
Sighing heavily, his shoulders dropped in defeat. Without adding another word, he stood up and gestured for you to follow him. You were skeptical of how easy it had been to convince him but didn't say anything about it. If you were just about to get what you wanted, there was no way you'd complain.
Chan made you follow for a good ten minutes. Turning left and right, going up and down the stairs... you were almost scared of getting lost. It was all worth it in the end, though. As soon as he opened the door to the rooftop, you spotted Changbin who wasn't doing much other than playing around with his gun.
"Bin." you called out and the man in question turned around, seemingly taken aback from your presence.
You mouthed a small "thank you" to Chris who answered with a quick nod before leaving, closing the door behind him. You let out a sigh of relief and went to go hug your old friend. As Changbin was still on duty, he returned the embrace coldly as he was watching around the building.
"What are you doing here? I thought Yeonjun was visiting you today." he asked.
"Fuck Yeonjun, I've seen enough of his face. What about you? I've nearly said a word to you since I arrived."
He chuckled, visibly still fond of you. "You haven't changed."
You shrugged, fully knowing you weren't the same person he once knew. "I guess I kept some of my old mannerisms."
He nodded slowly before looking to the view of the city you had. A moment of silence felt both good and torturous. He was right there, just next to you, and you weren't talking still.
"So? How did you get here?" you said, breaking the ice.
"Wow, going straight to the point." he laughed. "I don't know. After the evacuation, I was pretty much on my own. I still have no idea where my family is, if I'm being honest. About five years ago, I had a quibble with Han. It was over some food or whatever, I don't remember. Anyway, I beat him but it was cold that night so he offered to go back to his hideout. And that's when I met Chris. The guy saved our lives, I've never met someone quite like him."
You hummed as he finished. You were as much worried as he was about finding family and such. And that's what he was to you, family. The exact reason why you've been wanting to find him for so long. He was your comfort place, your home. Someone who had been there for you far more than your actual family.
"No." he spoke again. "He actually reminds me of you at times."
Seeing the knowing smile on his face, you cleared your throat as you grew uncomfortable. "So you thought of me..."
"Obviously. You were my closest friend."
Nostalgia hitting you right in the face, you smiled sadly to yourself. "These were the good days."
"They were. How did you even survive on your own, anyway? Six years alone, it must have been rough."
You could hear the worry in his voice which you almost took as an insult. You are small and lanky for sure, but you have always managed to do everything by yourself and with success.
"I was with my uncle for the first year before I ran away. I believe I was alone for about two years, which wasn't that hard. I made contacts everywhere and it became pretty handy. Then my uncle found me and we've been having this thing going on ever since. I do his deals and he pays me." you explained.
Changbin scoffed. "He's still around?"
You nodded. "After my dad got infected, he was pretty much all I had left. Except for you, who I have tried to contact for the past couple of years." you said, sending him a glare.
He held his hands up in defense. "It's not my fault SKZ is a secret organization. I would've put the whole team in danger if I answered your radio signals."
You crossed your arms on your chest. "A little sign of life would've been nice, though."
"Please, Y/N. I'm sorry, okay?"
A loud explosion nearby cut the conversation short. Looking to where it came from, you saw Felix and Jeongin hiding behind a wall while a crowd of infected people ran towards them. They had seemingly threw a bomb at them but it was clearly uneffective. Instinctively, you took Changbin's gun and went ahead with shooting the monsters who were the closest to the boys. Jeongin took a moment to spot you before nodding his head as a sign of thank you. While you continued to shoot, he grabbed Felix and rushed him to a building further away.
"Changbin, Y/N!" Yeonjun's voice said as it came from the door Chris had previously gone through. "The building's not safe anymore, come with me."
You rushed to follow him and walked down the stairs to get to a level where you could jump to the building beside. Changbin took his gun back and made sure to beat any infected with whom you'd come upon.
"Are Seungmin and Minho alright with the cure? And Chris-"
"They're all fine, now's not the time." Yeonjun shut you up.
A couple of levels later, you left the staircase to go find a window wide enough to go through. As it seemed to be a quieter place, you allowed yourself to calm down and take a look around. It resembled an old office room where workers would type all day about whatever.
"I never came here." Changbin informed.
"We didn't necessarily need this space anyway." Chris said as he walked in the room, limping slightly. "I've gotten everyone out, it's just us now."
"Where are the others?" you asked.
Chris let out a grunt from the pain his leg was causing but still took the time to answer you. "I don't know but we have a meeting point. We'll find each other again eventually. It is a shame, though, this place has been the longest settlement we've had so far."
"Oh, fuck." Yeonjun cursed before running to the doors, shutting them closed. "We don't have much time and the way to the next building isn't that simple."
"What do you mean?"
Changbin pointed to the hole in the wall. "It leads to a balcony. The plank of wood there can be our bridge."
You went ahead and helped him get the piece of wood, trying your best to get it out as soon as possible. Meanwhile, Yeonjun was trying his best to keep the door closed but as more infected came, it became harder. Chris wanted to help but his leg wasn't letting him. Helplessly, he watched Yeonjun struggle and you and Changbin doing everything to get out fast.
In his mind, he was already dead. He thought about Minho for a moment, hoping he had taught the younger man everything to take over his place as leader. He truly hoped he did. Because he wasn't going to make it. He would only slow everyone down.
"Man, come here." Changbin yelled at him.
"You'll have to go without me." he declared, feeling defeated.
This caught your attention and you went back to Chris. Seeing him so vulnerable, your heart sank. If he was like Changbin had described him, it would be a waste for him to die. With a determined walk, you went to his side and put his arm around your neck to be his support.
"What are you doing?"
"Saving your ass." you rolled your eyes before looking at Yeonjun. "Jun, we can go now."
Your friend's face was fully red, a result of his entire strength used to keep away the monsters. Even if he wanted to, he wasn't going to have the energy to join you and leave. And one glance at each other was everything it took for you to understand that.
"You've been great, Jun." you smiled sadly, not even feeling the single tear that left your eye.
He gave you a small smirk, the best he could give you given the circumstances.
With a heavy heart, you grabbed tightly onto Chris and dragged him all the way to the hole in the wall, and then to the improvised bridge you and Changbin made. The latter was already on the other side but he crossed back to give you a hand with Chan. You sat the man down so he could slide instead of walk. Once safely arrived, you hurried to join them and throw the plank down, preventing the zombie-like creatures to follow you.
Out of breath, the three of you dropped on the floor. You couldn't believe it, you had just lost Yeonjun. Sure, he wasn't your favourite person on Earth but he had never left your side for years. In a way, he was your safe space. An annoying one for sure but it hurt nonetheless. And without saying a thing, you let one more tear drop from your eye while being totally unaware of Chan's gaze on you.
Tumblr media
Normally, you would have left the neighborhood entirely. But because Christopher was having an issue with his right leg, this was not an option. Staying at the highest floor of the building next to the old SKZ headquarters, you were pleasantly surprised by the arrangement of the space. Someone had stayed there for a bit but left their bedding as well as their canned food and magazines. Maybe this person died but it didn't matter to you at that moment. You were just grateful to have access to such a luxury.
You all had a long day and deserved a rest, and Chan needed it the most. You had bickered beforehand about who was going to stay awake in case of anything but you inevitably won the argument.
With the light provided by the lamp in the middle of the small room, you read out loud the words written on the pages. Boring was one way to describe the texts but it was better than nothing.
"-the release of the movie had been much awaited by fans from all around the world. At its first screening in theaters-"
"What movie?" Chris cut you off.
"Avatar 2."
He chuckled. "It was a big thing, wasn't it?"
"Movie theaters..." Changbin said dreamily. "Will we ever be able to have this kind if experience again?"
You could only roll your eyes. "This is mothing compared to our movie nights."
"Gosh, I forgot about those!"
Chan frowned. "You two were pretty close, yeah?"
Changbin grinned. "My whole childhood was with her."
"At its first screening in theaters, many complained about-"
"Let's do something else." Chan cut you off, snatching the magazine out of your hands.
"What else do you suggest?" you sighed, knowing there wasn't much to do.
"We can chat a bit, learn about each other."
Changbin shook his head. "We already know each other."
"I don't know her, and you might not be aware of some things about her too."
"Fine. Y/N, how's your uncle doing?" he asked, not expecting much of it.
"Head of the bounty group in the city. He's enjoying power and abusing people but at least he gives me some money from time to time." you answered.
"Let me guess, when you do the job for him."
You nodded and that pretty much shut the whole conversation. Well, for the two of you. Chris' mind was going through a whirlwind of questions to ask. He was fascinated by your ability to remain calm and unfazed but it surely meant you had gone through something that made you this way. He wanted to know what happened. He wanted to dig into your mind to find the troubled girl. He wanted to help her.
"Your parents died, no? How did you deal with that?"
Your jaw clenched and you noticed Changbin was ready to throw some fists. Surprisingly, you weren't mad that he dared to mention your parents. In some way, you had beeb waiting for an opportunity to think of them. Ever since they died, you didn't let yourself take a moment for them.
"I coped the best way I could. I mainly tried to forget about it but I miss them still, you know? And my uncle has always been an ass so it didn't help much that he was still alive, let's say. He's family but I would've rather not if I'm being honest."
Chan chuckled. "He seems like one hell of a persona."
"Believe me, he is."
"It reminds me of my own parents."
You frowned, intrigued. "Are they..?"
"Dead, yes. My sister too. I don't know where my brother is but he most likely didn't make it. I miss them too but I made my own little family now. And I won't lose them."
Your gaze softened at his words. Scary is definitely a good word to describe Chris but deep down, he was a simple guy wanting to do good to protect his friends.
"You're part of it now, you know?"
You cleared your throat, uncertain on how to react. "Right... Uhm, it's getting late. You two can sleep, I'll be on the lookout."
Changbin took the gun from you before you could stand up, sending you a look that said plenty to you. He was going to watch first. You let him do and looked at his back while he went to sit next to the closed door.
"I get why you took Bin with you." you said in a low tone to Chris while settling down on the small blanket next to him.
He laid on the mattress himself as he replied. "Why?"
"He's built like a bodyguard, mentally and physically."
"He is, but he was so vulnerable when I met him. I was in a similar headspace and with Han being the anxious guy he is, we were a unique trio."
You didn't expect him to open up like this about the past, especially not the beginnings of SKZ. The organization might be small, as you know now, but the power they hold is something. Knowing the slightest information about them could ruin their doings. But since you were a member, you guessed it didn't matter now.
"We had a different name back then, 3Racha. We thought we were clever but when the other guys joined, it wasn't a good fit anymore."
You laughed. "Good call on changing the name. Why SKZ, though?"
"Stray Kids, a good representation of us I think. We're wandering around with a purpose but, in the end, we're all children still."
You liked that way of thinking. You were about to ask more in terms of the formation of the group but Chris' grunt took you off guard. Wincing more as he wiggles around more, you sat up and leaned towards his body to check where the pain was coming from. From the way he was holding onto his leg, you could tell this was the issue.
"Can I take a look?"
While panting heavily, he nodded in a hurry as if he was begging you to make the pain go away. Carefully, you pulled the blanket off him and went ahead with rolling his pants up to above his knee. That part of his body had clearly gone through a slight fracture.
"Gosh, what the hell did you do?" you mumbled more to yourself than to him.
"I was pushed down the stairs by an infected, no bites though."
You started to massage his knee a bit but the wince he let out was enough to make you stop. Instead, you ripped a piece of your shirt, one long enough so you could wrap it around his leg.
"I don't know if this will help for sure but it will keep it stable for a bit. The more you move, the more it'll hurt and worsen." you explain was tying it all up.
Chris watched you in admiration. There was something about you that he hadn't seen before, softness. There was worry and care in your touch.
"Thank you."
You gave him a small smile. "We don't want our leader to suffer now, do we?"
"Suffering is part of the equation, Y/N. The sacrifices I make are for the others."
"For tonight, it might be good for you to feel at peace. We don't know what will happen tomorrow."
You said this as if this had not been the case for the last six years. Every day was an adventure with risks. However, now that the team no longer had a safe space, it was much more dangerous to be out in the forbidden zones.
"Sleep well, Y/N." Chan finally spoke up, laying down again.
"You too."
Tumblr media
It took two weeks for Chris to be able to walk in some way. In that time, your trio grew to have a routine. You and Changbin would switch places every night for the lookout but he was most often out to get the food and such. That left you and Chan alone together for the majority of the time. You didn't mind, Chris was fun when he wanted to be.
You grew closer which made you both glad. You didn't feel like you were walking on eggshells every time you were around him anymore. Instead, you felt safe. He had the trick with words so he could tell you anything in the wisest way possible. That, or he was flirting.
Maybe it was due to his lack of action in the love department, but he would make flirty comments nonstop.
One time, Changbin left to see if he could get a hold of some medicine for Chan's leg. The moment he left, Chris was at it again.
"Now that he's gone, that leaves us alone again." he had said with an eyebrow raised.
This had to stop, now that you were on the move again. The sole focus had to be finding the other boys, and only Chris knew where to find them.
On the run again, you left your little temporary hideout that morning with only a couple of belongings with yourselves such as food and weapons. You were far away from the city now, leaving you wondering where the hell Chris had planned to go.
"Are we there yet?" you asked with a whine on purpose.
"No, I've told you." he answered calmly.
His patience was impressive but you were testing his limits. "How long do we have still?"
"More than expected if you continue complaining like this."
Changbin held back a laugh. For him, seeing the new dynamic his friends had was entertaining. The growth from being distant to joking around all the time was the last thing he would've expected from the two of you.
A couple of miles later, you settled down in an abandoned convenience store to take a small break. To your luck, some snacks were still intact as well as some beverages. This brought back memories from when you would demand sodas from your father and he would repeatedly tell you how bad it was for your health. Let's say it didn't matter anymore. Food was food.
"Look! They got ramen." Chris said, bringing a box full of them.
"Jackpot." you cheered, taking one pack for yourself.
"If only we have boiling water." Changbin pointed out but Chris coming from the back of the store with a boiler shut him off real quick. "Nevermind."
"It almost feels like we're robbing someone's safe place, this store has everything."
Chris shrugged. "We're not staying for long, just to refill our stomachs. We'll continue after."
Your eyes widened. "You mean we won't sleep?"
"Not tonight, we slept plenty last week. What, did you want to cuddle with me?" he winked at you.
"As if." you scoffed.
Changbin, feeling slightly uncomfortable by the tension, started to get the food ready. In the meantime, you and Chan kept an eye outside just in case. In no time, the three of you were on the ground, slurping on your noodles loudly. This might had been the first good meal you had in a long time. You really took instant noodles for granted back when you had easy access to it.
"Are you done?" Chris asked as he finished his bowl.
You and Changbin hurried to finish and you were back to walking again, not forgetting to pack a couple of items from the store.
It felt like you had been advancing for eternity without getting much closer. You were mostly silent, that didn't help. You were growing more and more bored by the minute and, visibly, both boys felt the same.
"Truth or dare?" you suddenly spoke, startling the guys.
"Uh, Y/N?" Changbin said, confused.
"Might as well make the most of this trip." you shrugged. "Truth or dare?"
Chan was the first to answer. "Truth."
"Do you really think we'll find a cure?"
He gave you a look, as if to tell you that you were being weird. "I think so, but it won't be a thing done by the snap of my fingers. Bin?"
"Dare."
"Hum the hapoy birthday song."
"Boring. Y/N?"
"Truth."
Changbin smirked at you, a sign he was uo to no good with his question. "Who's the most handsome in SKZ?"
You cleared your throat, keeping your eyes in front of you. From the side, you noticed Chan looking at you as he expected your answer more excitedly than he should.
"Uh, do I have to say?"
"Yes." both men answered.
You breathed out loudly and stopped on your tracks to look at them both. "You're all good-looking in your own ways but... uh... Chan is pretty nice to look at." you mumbled quickly before walking again.
Chan's smirk crept on his face before he jogged to catch up with your speed. Meanwhile, Changbin proudly tapped his own shoulder to congratulate himself.
"What did you say? I couldn't hear properly." Chris questioned, though you knew he had heard it perfectly.
"Don't make me repeat it."
"I'm pretty nice to look at? This might be the best compliment I have ever received." he snorted in a sarcastic way, earning a glare from you. "If it can help your case, you're pretty cute too, you know?"
If you could control it, you wouldn't blush. Never would you accept a compliment from Chris, even less after you were forced to give him one.
"Let's go back to walking in silence, shall we?" you suggested, ignoring the man completely. "Changbin, can I walk with you?"
He shrugged. "Nah, I'm good in my bubble."
You wanted to rip his head off at this instant but refrained yourself from doing so. Evidently, you had no choice but to continue to trip with Chan next to you.
"Ignoring people is rude."
"I'm not ignoring you." you defended, although it couldn't be any more false.
"It's not such a good look on you, baby."
Your eyes went wide immediately. In the spur of the moment, you shoved him to the side and fastened your speed of walk. You weren't even mad at the nickname. In fact, you kind of liked how bold Chris was. Anywho, you had no time to flirt, even less with the SKZ leader. Trying to recollect yourself, you focused on your breathing to being it back to a normal pace.
Only for Chan to show up again.
"It was a joke, I'm sorry."
"Uhm." you hummed, still not acknowledging him.
"Y/N..."
"It's fine, don't worry."
Feeling defeated, he didn't push it further. So you continued to walk, only hearing the wind and the sounds from your footsteps.
Tumblr media
The warehouse was most likely a place they had previously chosen as a base. The equipment was still functional and tons of weapons had been hidden in a safe place under the floor of the basement. Heavy barbed wire all around on top of high fences, you wondered why they even left this place to begin with.
"Not discreet enough." Minho answered your question, which you had seemingly said outloud. "With all the heavy security mesures here, we are easily spotted by enemies. Sure, it's safer but we prefer places where we can work hidden from anyone."
You were glad the whole group made it to the safe meeting point. Jisung immediately went about taking care of Chan's injury while everyone gathered to figure out what to do next.
"We can always travel to the east part of the country?" Hyunjin suggested.
Seungmin, however, disapproved. "With an injured leader and a newbie on the team, we might want to stay close to the city."
"There's always TXT's hiding place." Jeongin shrugged.
It pinched inside to hear that group. You missed Yeonjun, more than you would have imagined.
"It's too small for you all." you argued.
"Yeah, I need the equipment for the research." Minho added.
"We'll stay here." Chan announced as he came back with Jisung. "We are almost done with the formula, we need a couple more weeks and it should be ready to test. I doubt we'll have issues until then."
"I added traps all around the base while we were waiting for the threesome people, we should be safe." Jisung precised before slumping down on a couch.
"Threesome people?" Chris repeated in a mumble.
"Yeah, like how Changbin was surely going to sleep with Y/N and Y/N and Chris keep eye-fucking each other nonstop."
"We got the point, thanks Jisung." Jeongin stopped him, which you were grateful for.
"She's like a sister to me, that'd be so wrong." Changbin continued.
You sent him a glare but he ignored it. "No one's slept or will sleep with anyone."
"Hmm, you'd be surprised." Hyunjin argued.
"I don't want the details."
Chan clapped his hands together, shutting the conversation. "Can we get back to work?"
Everybody went to their position: Felix and Jeongin on the lookout on the roof, Changbin at the entrance, Jisung and Hyunjin in training, Minho and Seungmin on the cure...
You were left alone with Chris in his new office. With a radio at hand, you were trying to catch any signals of new research found about the virus of potential visits from enemies that you could prepare for. It wasn't that exciting other than hearing people talk.
"Y/N L/N... works for... reward of..." you heard while tuning in the radio.
You had completely forgotten about your uncle, even more the load of work you still had to execute for him. In a moment of panic, you stood uo and paced around the room, looking for your stuff.
"Woah, Y/N." Chris said, standing up as well.
"I have to go back." you announced, breath unsteady.
"What?"
"My uncle, he's gonna kill me if I don't finish his deals."
He frowned. He had tried to understand why you were so insistent on continuing to work for that guy. From his point of view, nothing beneficial for you. You would receive much less than what you deserve, get treated like shit and live in a shitty torn down apartment.
"You don't have to-"
"You don't understand." you interrupted him. "That man is the reason why I'm still alive. I did all of his work and he allowed me to get by in exchange. I let him down, he can ruin my name. He has contacts, I know he will kot hesitate to-"
"You don't have to." Chan repeated. "You're not there anymore, you're not trapped. Look, I don't know what happened with the two of you but I think he might have manipulated you. Telling you that you owe him for what he did for you? You don't owe him anything, he's the one who owes you. You do all of his dirty work for a few silvers and do it all again the next day. And what if he ruins your name? You can't be found with us. Well, your chances are low let's say. You're safe."
You hadn't noticed he had taken your hands in reassurance until you felt his thumbs rubbing against your skin. This might had been the first time someone had touched you like this, so intimately. As much as it was a foreign sensation, you felt as if there was nothing else but you and him. As if a bubnle had created around you. As tears dropped from your eyes, you took in what he just said. For years, you believed you had no choice but to give back to your uncle for lpoking after you, when in reality, he had never done anything but use you. Chan was right.
You let out a chuckle. "In a way, you saved me. By recruiting me."
"In a way."
You stepped forward, getting closer to him. So close that you could smell him. He smelled fresh and new, nothing like someone who spent years being a rebel. Looking up to stare back at him, his gaze had moved down to your lips. So you looked at his lips too and, slowly, you moved closer to each other until you kissed.
It was nothing like you had experienced before. There wasn't just lust and want in the kiss, there was anger, sadness, relief.... It wasn't a clear mix but it felt good.
"I'm sorry, I don't want to seem to take advantage of the situation or-"
You shushed him with a small peck. "You're not, I swear. Look, I don't do great at relationship stuff but-"
It was his turn to cut you off as he let out a laugh. "There is no pressure."
For a moment, you could only smile and stare at one another. This was simple, easy. You loved it, actually.
"... vaccine in development..." the radip glitched, grabbing both your attention. "... no cure found... coming from yeast... mores tests..."
Chan took a deep breath. "I think the guys are going to like that information."
"What do you mean?"
His smile grew bigger. "We know the source of it now. If the guys can combine the source with the developped molecule, we might find a way to prevent it from evolving."
"So..?" you asked again, still not fully understanding.
"We're near the end of it all, Y/N."

“My fellow Koreans, we face a crisis. The violent outbreaks are linked to a virus named Z-B232. The creators of this virus are under interrogation, and efforts to develop a cure are underway. 검은색의 밤도 너만 있다면 난 무섭지 않아 [Even the dark night doesn't scare me if I'm with you] © Jeri Rose | INPRNT Their backstory is under the cut.
Content Warnings before you read: Please mindful that this is a Apocalypse AU - Mentions of death (dw not them) | Mentions of injuries' | Mentions of needles but not used | Mentions of blood and some violence Special thanks to @thnx4thefish & @shmalll for being my Beta readers ❤ — "Ji! Run" A hoarse voice shouted, cracking under the heaviness of bated breath as the young man swung his modified baseball bat, cracking it against the foul feral creature that had lunged at him, sending it flying.
"Come on!! In here!" The sound of feet stomping echoed around them as they entered the abandoned building to their left, gnarly screams trailed behind them. "Quick, grab that!" Panting he urged his companion to grab a broken piece of steel pipe and bring it to him, snatching it off him urgently when he got close enough.
The young man wedged the pipe through two handles, barricading the large doors in front of them, "that'll hold them for a bit." He sighed, wiping sweat off his forehead, his baseball bat clattering against the concrete ground as he threw it to the floor; although hoarse, his voice was calm, there was a sense of control in his words that reassured his partner. The two of them quickly scanned their surroundings for anything they could shift, stacking whatever they could in front of the door, before they both dropped to the floor breathless and tired.  The room surrounding them was dank and musty, small strings of light shone through cracks in boarded up windows, dust particles dancing in the thin rays. Mould and moss crawled up the walls and along the concrete floor, and vines crept down from a hole in the ceiling above them. Broken shelves, display cabinets and lockers littered the entrance; the remains of newsletters, posters and children’s drawings littered the shedding walls and surrounding floor. “There’s so many of them,” Jisung sighed breathlessly as his leant against the adjacent wall, his eyes locked on to the blade in his hand, his grip so tight around it that his knuckles were turning white, fear consumed his face and his body shook weakly as he tried to regulate his heartbeat again, “Minh-” he was cut off.
"Drink" Minho demanded as he held out a flask, shaking it slightly in front of Jisung's face. Jisung’s shaky grip softened on his blade and he reached out to grab the flask, as he raised it to his face Minho’s warm hand held his steady as he slowly sipped the stale water inside. "I'm going to look around, stay here." Minho said pushing himself off the floor and brushing off the dust, "Hyung -" Jisung’s soft, nervous voice came from below. "Eat," Minho pointed at the bag Jisung was holding, as he walked towards his bat. “Minho!” Jisung called out, stopping him in his tracks, panic shook in Jisung’s throat. Minho returned, bent down in front of Jisung, cupping his face, "I'll be back" Minho reassured him as he brushed his thumb across Jisung’s cheek before standing up again and turning on his flashlight. Minho grabbed his baseball bat from the floor, swung it up on to his shoulder and exited the room to search the rest of the building, leaving Jisung alone, gripping his knife and a stale bun. “Eat!” Minho called out from beyond the door.
They'd been travelling for weeks non-stop now; at first it was just Minho, he'd been wandering for months alone, until the day he found Jisung. He was bruised, battered, disorientated, pathetic, fighting for his life against a large horde in a shopping mall. Minho had just gone to loot, he never expected to find another lone survivor, they were far and in between, most people had grouped up, built forts, started gang wars… but Minho didn't care for any of it, he wasn't really sure what he was surviving for any more, he had little hope of a brighter future and often tempted fate by foolishly roaming around dangerous areas in search of food and shelter, which is, oddly enough what led him to this scenario. Some would call it fate, Minho would call it dumb luck, maybe, at a push.
Although he didn't really care to get involved, this stranger's wails for help couldn't be escaped, and so with his trusty modified metal baseball bat, Minho stepped in to help. "Idiot" he exclaimed as he watched his last victim fall headless to the ground in front of him. "Where are your weapons?! Are you trying to get turned?!" He angrily yelled at the boy huddled on the floor behind him. "I…" is all he managed to answer.
Minho turned around, the boy who sat behind him shook in terror as he scanned all the lifeless ghouls lying around him, Minho pulled a small pistol from a leather holster attached to his thigh and pointed it directly at the boy's head. "Did you get bitten?" He asked sternly, the boy shook his head in fear, "No! No!" He cried out shaking, Minho tucked the gun back onto its holster and carefully walked towards the stranger, bat tightly in his grip.
"Get up," Minho demanded of him, holding out a gloved hand to help pull the stranger to his feet but as he raised his hand he doubled in pain, unable to lift his arm. Minho bent down further, wrapped his arm around his waist firmly as he pulled the boy up off the ground. "Th-... Thank you" the stranger nervously lowered his head in a bow, hissing in pain as he did. "Don't be, you'll be dead in a week…" Minho's cold, harsh voice cut through the person standing in front of him, "I'll be on my way now," he turned his back to the person and began to walk away.
"Wait!" The boy called out, stumbling a step forward, Minho halted in his spot and turned back around and rolled his eyes, "My name is Jisung, I was with a group of people, we had a camp not far from here, we got raided, they stole everything, many of my friends were kil… those of us that did escape got chased..." His voice trailed off as a tear swelled up in the corner of his eye, "I don't have any weapons because I ran… to look for help…" Jisung's legs trembled under him as he began to walk towards Minho, "I was looking for help…" his voice cracked as his legs buckled from under him, Minho dropped his bat, the clang of metal bouncing off concrete echoing around them, and rushed to help the stranger, catching him just before he hit the ground.
Jisung was weak, dehydrated, starved and exhausted, he wasn't sure how long he'd gone without food or water. His exposed skin was covered in dirt, dried blood, cuts and bruises, Minho couldn't believe he'd managed to hold out this long, maybe the boy wasn't such a lost cause after all. "Drink" Minho demanded as he grabbed a flask from his backpack and shoved it into Jisung's hand, who trembled as he raised it to his mouth and drank from it cautiously, "Finish it" Minho's voice was harsh and cold but in his arms, Jisung did what he was asked, finishing off the flask of stale water he handed it back to Minho who threw it carelessly back into his backpack, before flinging it back over his shoulder.  "Put your arms around my neck," Minho asked, in a slightly nicer tone, "we need to find food," Jisung nodded and wrapped his arms around Minho's neck, as he stood he lifted Jisung in to a piggyback, and walked over to his spiked bat, bent down and picked it up, swinging it in circles by his side as he walked.
After Minho had scouted the mall and grabbed what he could find, he carried Jisung back to his former camp, four miles away, in silence. Jisung’s body draped from Minho’s back, as he weakly held on to his neck, Minho’s free arm clung around Jisung’s leg to keep him stable. The clouds painted in burning pinks and ambers as the sun sank slowly down behind buildings and trees in the distance, the road underfoot broken and cracked, abandoned twisted vehicles haphazardly parked.
Fuck, Jisung was right… the place was in shambles, completely ransacked and everything that could be looted had been. The smell of iron and damp spread through the abandoned wooden buildings as Minho looked for somewhere to set Jisung down to rest. The grounds contained a few small brick homes, a couple of torn up tents and a few log cabins, a makeshift courtyard in the middle with a large pit full of dried wood and a few drying racks scattered around it along with several large logs; a beaten up guitar rested against one of them.
After checking several of the houses, Minho finally found a sofa in one of the log cabins that was still somewhat intact enough to place Jisung to rest. His body had become as heavy as his eyes and he fell with a lifeless thud from Minho's back as he was lowered to the crumbled cushions below him. The air in the room was laced with the smell of mould and decay, but the small cabin was the least destroyed in the grounds.
Jisung's exhausted body melted into the sofa, he'd no cares about the several springs that were poking him in the back, he'd not had rest in days… weeks? He wasn't so sure any more. He'd travelled so far looking for any signs of life, how is it that he did so well to avoid danger until his journey back home? How lucky he was to have this person find him… Jisung's thoughts faded out as his exhaustion took over more and more until he could no longer keep fighting it.
Minho looked down at Jisung, watching him fall into his much-needed slumber. "Stupid boy" he mumbled, "How he didn't die is beyond me…" Minho rolled his eyes, got up and began to search the log cabin, which didn't take long at all. Jisung really wasn't lying when he said they looted everything… 'Fuck' Minho thought out loud as he slammed the last empty cabinet shut. A heavy sigh escaped his lungs, he stared over at Jisung passed out on the sofa and shook his head, “shit…” he whispered as he grabbed his baseball bat and left, closing the door gently behind him. Minho rested his back against the outer wall, legs slightly crossed, his spiked baseball bat gripped tightly in hand, and his eyes sharply scanning his surroundings; the night sky had crept in above him, clear and crisp as he closed his eyes and inhaled. He wasn’t used to company any more, he didn’t want to have to look after someone, he didn’t need that weight on his shoulders - he was alone for a reason, it was better that way… he didn’t have to worry about losing someone or someone losing him if shit hit the fan; but Jisung… he’d lost a lot. Something in Minho’s chest twang as he thought about the boy K.O.’d on the sofa inside, a feeling he’d not felt in a long time. He pushed himself off the trailer wall and grabbed his bat in a double grip, and swung at the campsite around him, smashing it into the already battered furniture that lay scattered around, most likely from being thrown out of doors and windows during the raid. Minho’s anger boiled up in him, exploding in a fit of uncontrollable rage, a roar escaped his chest as he swung his bat one last time, cracking a wardrobe door in half, he fell to his knees as he dropped his bat beside him.
A flood of tears swelled up in his eyes as he tried his best to hold them back. No one deserved this, to lose everything… their friends, family, home… Minho knew it all too well, maybe that’s why he took pity on the boy and saved him…  he turned around and looked at the mess he’d made, “not again” he mumbled to himself as he wiped the tears from his cheek. Minho grabbed his bat from the floor and swung it over his shoulder, grabbed the strap of his backpack to adjust it and began to walk. He refused to look back, he wouldn’t do this again, he couldn’t.
As Minho’s legs carried him thoughts of his lost brothers rushed through his mind, he’d never felt pain like that before, and he never wanted to again, but he was determined to find them, whatever it took… however long it took. Flashbacks of the night they got swarmed by ghouls as they raided a distant town, looking for any kind of scrapes to keep them going… another flashback; the 7 of them running as the swarm overwhelmed them, they were unprepared, but they’d never seen this many ghouls in one area before, it… it wasn’t normal… that was the last time he saw them… another flashback; Minho ran, he didn’t stop until he lost strength in his legs, tripping over his foot and falling face-first into the concrete floor, as he looked up, nose bloodied, a steel cap shoe swung at his face, knocking him out cold. As he continued to walk, a chill ran down Minho’s spine, another twang in his chest jolted through him. Loud silence surrounded him, his frosted breath fled his lungs as he sighed heavily, stopping in his tracks. He was about two miles out, and the pitch black night heavy around him, he thought back to the stranger waking up alone again… “God fucking dammit!!” a raspy yell expelled from him as he turned on his heels and began his journey back to the torn up campsite.
“Minho” The name greeted Jisung as his eyes fluttered open, “Hm?” he sleepily hummed as he rubbed his eyes, “My name,” Minho spoke again. “Ah, Minho-Hyung” Jisung nodded as he tried to push himself into a seated position, a sharp pain shot through him and a inhaled gasp knocked him back down. “You need to rest,” Minho barked, “your body is weak.” Jisung gave a gentle nod, as Minho helped him sit slightly upright.
“I made breakfast… you need to eat to gain strength,” Minho continued as he grabbed an instant noodle pot and chopsticks from the floor beside his food. “Where did you find these?!” Jisung’s eyes lit up as he went to reach out to grab the pot from Minho, but before he could Minho slapped his hand down, “it’s hot!” He barked as he raised the pot of steaming instant noodles to Jisung’s chin, “careful,” he said as he blew on the noodles dangling from the chopsticks before bringing them to Jisung’s lips. Once Jisung had finished his breakfast, Minho looked him up and down, “Jisung, I need to check your wounds,” his eyes flicked between the many cuts and bruises he could count alone on Jisung’s exposed skin, “may I?” he asked as he reached for Jisung’s top, his voice so soft and gentle that it startled Jisung for a second, unsure of how to answer before he hummed and nodded allowing Minho to continue. Jisung winced in pain as Minho lifted the top above his head, “Your ribs are bruised, but not broken,” he shook his head as he inspected the large bruises that spread across Jisung’s torso. Jisung stared at Minho as he grabbed a wet, ragged cloth from a basin on the table beside him and rang it out. As the cold rag came in contact with his skin, Jisung flinched, letting out a hiss as he quickly grabbed Minho’s wrist, his eyes still stayed locked on Minho’s, which were looking straight back at him; they stared at each other for a few seconds before Minho’s gaze turned to Jisung’s fingers clamped around his wrist. “It’s cold,” Jisung sheepishly laughed as his grip loosened, “Sor-…” Minho shook his head, “No need.”
As Minho gently and carefully cleaned and tended to Jisung’s wounds, the water in the basin darkening with each wring of the rag. Minho continued until he reached a large gash on Jisung’s back, “Bite on this” Minho commanded as he handed Jisung a dry rag from his backpack, followed by pulling out a lighter, needle and thread, Jisung’s eyes widened as he saw Minho approaching him with the items, his eyes fixated on the glowing flame as Minho heated the needle in it. Minho could see slight fear in Jisung’s expression, “If it gets infected you're fucked” his stern and harsh tone crept back in as he watched the needle turn red, “bite on it.” he said again, looking up at the frightened boy in front of him, “you’ll need it.” He snatched the cloth from Jisung’s lose grip and shoved it in his mouth, “Bite.”
“How… how did you…” Ji asked cautiously, as he pointed at the long scar that trailed down the left side of Minho’s face. Minho looked down at him briefly, before turning his attention back to sharpening his hunting knife, “I was separated from my brothers…” he thought back to the day he woke up, laying on a cold concrete floor, his arms tied behind his back and 5 burly men towering over him, he could still remember the pain from his broken ribs and the fear of death clouding his mind, anxious thoughts about where his brothers were and if they had also been captured… “I was stupid,” he continued to tell Jisung as he looked back at him, with furrowed brows, “I got captured by a gang an…” his words caught by a lump forming in his throat, “the rest you don’t need to know about.” Jisung looked at him with concern, “Hyung, I’m sorry I didn’t mean -” Minho cut him off before he could continue, holding up a hand and shaking his head, “Apologies are for the weak,” his voice cold and heartless, “Go back to sleep, you need more rest.” Minho raised himself from Jisung’s side and walked out of the log cabin, leaving Jisung alone in silence.
It took almost two weeks for Jisung to gain enough strength back for Minho to be satisfied that they could move on without Jisung putting them in danger. The two had almost run out of rations and Minho was becoming more antsy about staying in one spot, “How are you feeling? Can you walk?” Minho asked as he looked at Jisung who was now easily sitting up right, he smiled and nodded as he carefully flung his legs over the side of the sofa. Minho wrapped his arm around Jisung’s waist to help him stand, Jisung gripped Minho’s arm as he slowly and wobbly rose to his feet. He looked up at Minho and could have sworn he saw a slight smile curl at the corners of his lips, Jisung smiled to himself as the two of them steadily made their way to one of the logs outside. It was early morning, the air was thick with a fog that coated the surrounding campsite, in the near distance Jisung could see the dance of orange flames from the large pit. Minho hadn’t lit the fire before, too afraid it’d be too noticeable, but in the thick fog he didn’t worry about the light or smoke carrying so much. He helped Jisung sit on one of the log benches close to the warmth of the fire and made his way over to the ground on the across from him by the firepit, where he had a pot of water heating on top of a few metal pipes he’d turned into a hob of some sort “Ah! My guitar!” Jisung excitedly, bounced as he spotted the beaten instrument resting beside him, “That’s yours?” Minho chuckled, “I didn’t take you for the musical type,” his brow raised. “And you are?” Jisung cackled as he tried to imagine stern, scary Minho liking music, but swiftly stopped as he caught the death glare he was receiving out of the corner of his eye, “ah, Hyung-” he babbled trying to save himself. “You can play?” Minho asked as he plonked the last of their noodles into the now boiling water. Jisung slowly bent across the bench and grabbed his guitar and inspected it, strumming it once, “It’s out of tune and missing several strings, but I can give it a shot,” he boasted as he started to tune the remaining strings. As Minho continued to cook them breakfast on the other side of the fire, Jisung played guitar and sang. His voice caught Minho off guard, it was soft and gentle, as Minho listened he felt a wave of calm flutter over him, something that he'd not felt in a long time, he couldn't remember the last time life felt like this… "ah," Jisung shyly giggled as he finished the song, "I'm rusty," Minho looked over the fire at him, shooting Jisung a half smile and hummed at him. "Noodles are done." He said as he looked back to the pot and stirred the contents. Minho poured the noodles into two mugs that he'd managed to find lying around the camp ground and sanitized and moved his way over to Jisung, who rested the guitar on the floor next to him before taking one of the hot mugs from Minho's hands. Both of them slurped away as they devoured their meal.  — "Hyung?" Jisung whispered as he lay on the sofa in the small cabin, a voice from the floor below him hummed in acknowledgement, "Do you play?" Jisung continued his question.
"Guitar?" Minho replayed, Jisung returning the hum of acknowledgement, "No, but a friend of mine did… does…" he corrected himself as he spoke, not allowing to give in to intrusive thoughts.
"You like music though?" Jisung pried, Minho sat up slightly and looked at Jisung face-on, "I did…" his reply felt empty, Jisung sensed this and tilted his head, looking into Minho's eyes that seemed just as lost and empty as his words, before Jisung could ask, "I was a dancer… before…." Minho reminisced, a small smile crept into the corners of his lips and he lay back down on the hard ground under him. "Hyung, aren't you uncomfortable? We can swap?" Jisung's voice laced with concern as he watched Minho shuffle around. "Ji, you need a good night's sleep. We leave at sunrise."
Jisung hummed, "Okay, night Hyung…" he whispered quietly as he made himself comfortable on the sofa, his comment took Minho back a little, they'd not exchanged much evening talk, let alone 'Night's' of any sort. Minho didn't reply, if he didn't reply maybe it wouldn't happen again, 'night's' lead to 'morning's' and 'morning's' leads to 'good night's' which lead to 'good morning's' and nothing good came of those… no best if he didn't say anything back. Minho shuffled around on the floor, fluffing up his folded makeshift pillow from his hoodie before resting his head on it. The night was quiet, too quiet and as Minho stared up at the crumbing ceiling above him, his thoughts turned to their next plan of action and where they go from here. He'd been travelling South, on a whim that his brothers were still heading to their original destination; Minho could only hope… he looked up at Jisung who was sprawled out on the sofa above him, one leg rest on the back of the couch, his other flopped over the edge of the cushion, how the hell the boy could sleep so comfortably was beyond Minho, but he didn't care to think about it too much either. As he studied Jisung, Minho wondered if he'd actually be of any help or if he'd just slow him down… but he couldn't be left alone, he'd surely not be able to make longer than a week, fuck…
Jisung jolted awake as something heavy thumped into his legs, "get up," Minho commanded, Jisung rubbed his eyes and glanced at the bag on his thighs, "the sun is rising, we need to move if you want a meal" Minho continued as Jisung pulled himself away from his comfort. Minho couldn't believe how relaxed he looked and shook his head in disgust, "I'm screwed" he mumbled to himself as he left the cabin. Jisung trailed after him in a scurried walk, "Morn-" he began to greet Minho, as he jumped down the step from the front door, who raised his hand for Jisung to stop talking. "Ooookay…" Jisung pulled and adjusted his backpack straps and scanned the camp ground one last time as they began to head towards the nearby road. As they walked all he could think about was that this would be the last time he ever saw his home, there was no coming back…
"Jisung?!" Minho called out in a panic as he realized his companion wasn't beside him, turning on the spot and searching for Jisung's figure, until his eyes locked on to him. In the near distance, Jisung stopped in his tracks and paused as they got further away, looking back at his home one last time. "Ji!" Minho called out again as he ran back to him, but Jisung hadn't heard him. Minho grabbed his wrist as he got close enough and pulled him towards him, "Ji, we need to go-".
"Hyung…" Jisung sighed, his eyes glistened with tears as he looked up at Minho."You can't dwell on it," Minho's voice had become soft and gentle again, he took Jisung's hand in his and squeezed, "We must move," he pulled again, Jisung gripped Minho's hand back and nodded, allowing Minho's pull to drag him from the spot he'd glued himself too.

Chan grunts as he rolls around in his bed and grumbles when he bumps into his brother and he growls but he stops when he feels Myla wraps her arms around his waist and she whimpers into his back causing him to turn around and face her.
When Chan notices her tears he becomes worried "What's wrong bunny?" He asks softly his hand cupping her face and she whispers softly "I'm just scared." Chan wipes her tears away and he whispers softly so they don't wake the others. "It's okay to be scared but stick by us- by me and we'll be okay."
Chan gently starts to rub her floppy bunny ears and relaxes but he tenses up when he starts hearing groaning, moaning and screams outside the cabin they bunkered down in last night.
"What's going on?" Felix asks as he wakes up from beside Chan and he glances over that couple who cuddle against each other and Chan whispers softly "The dead are awake, we need to be quiet until morning."
Felix nods and climbs over Chan who grunts and glares at him making Felix smirk at him before wrapping his arms around Myla's waist as she looks up at him and she reaches up and pets his wolf ears.
Chan whines at the attention Myla is giving to Felix causing Myla to pout at Chan and she whispers so the dead can't hear her "he needs attention just as much as you and your other brothers Channie."
Chan cracks a smile at that and he nuzzles her gently as Felix nudges his face into her neck and holds her close.
Few hours later
Minho and Chanbin sit up against the wall as they listen to the zombies growling and running and walking.
Seungmin who's currently sitting next to Minho sits up and peeks out of the hole they made to see about five zombies just walking around and he humbles to Minho "It's just five of them."
Hyunjin hums to himself before grabbing his silent sniper gun and says "I'm going to take them out, I'll be on the roof."
Before Hyunjin can make it far though Chan calls out quietly "Be careful and call out if you need help." Hyunjin just nods before leaving the room.
Han, who is currently sitting next to Myla , speaks softly to her "You probably feel very scared at the moment huh?" Myla just nods and curls up into the couch.
Chan glances over at Myla and Han and Chan growls alittle causing Han to look up at him in surprise.
"Be nice, Han, she's not prey." Chan says firmly as he walks over and bends down next to Myla and he nuzzles his nose against hers which causes his wolf tail to move back and front happily.
Myla blushes and giggles as Chan starts licking her face, grooming her. Han groans in disgust and says "why can't we eat her?"
Chan freezes as do the rest of the pack. Han covers his mouth in shock before whispering softly "I'm sorry I didn't mean that, I'm just starving."
Chan gulps in anger and says firmly "Myla is part of this pack, I don't care how hungry you get, never ever say something like that again or I'll take care of you myself."
Han nods and he whispers as he becomes ashamed of himself "I know, I know she is part of our pack. I'm sorry."
Chan doesn't say anything to that he just looks back at Myla who currently staring at Chan and Chan leans forward causing her eyes to refocused and she whispers "Maybe once the zombie are gone we go into town and get some canned food and if we can get some garden seeds I can make a small garden."
Chan smiles at her sweetly and he whispers "I'll be morning soon so yeah we can do that. I rather go when the dead are asleep instead of when they are awake."
Myla nods and gets up causing the pack to follow her as she walks into the kitchen and Han speaks up "we don't have anything."
Myla hums as she sniffs around and she walks over to a door that she didn't notice, that none of them noticed before.
"Have we checked inside of here yet?" Myla asks softly. Chan rushes over when she puts her hand on the door handle and he speaks softly "We didn't notice this door but before we went down there. I'm going to check it out."
Chan grabs his gun from his strap on his hip and he says firmly "I'll be back." He opens the door that leads downstairs and he does a growl that causes zombies attention when he hears nothing he goes downstairs and makes a loud whistle, when he hears or sees nothing he looks around but stops when he doesn't find anything and calls up to pack to come down.
When his pack comes down, Myla sniffs some more and goes over to the large cupboard and opens it to find a lot of food.
"Look!" Myla squeals happily as she grabs a can of corn. Chan rushes over to her side along with the pack to see the cupboard filled with canned food and Asian foods that are instant.
Chan leans forward Myla and says softly "Good job little one." Myla blushes and smiles happily up at him before speaking softly "If you want I can make soup for us tonight."
Chan nods and says to the pack "Grab one can of your choice to add to the soup." The pack nods just as Hyunjin comes downstairs and calls for them.
Chan rushes upstairs and smiles at Hyunjin and says "we found some food, it'll last us for awhile so we'll be okay."
Hyunjin smiles happily at that and says "Great I'm starving also I killed the dead and burned their bodies." Chan nods and says softly "Good job, Hyunjin."
Hyunjin smiles as his wolf tail moves back and front at the praise and he whispers softly "Thank you."
Few hours later
Jeongin wakes up when Chan walks over to him and shakes him awake and says "Come on sleepily head, Myla made some food, let's get something to eat."
Jeongin nods and becomes excited for the food and gets up before going to the kitchen.
Chan walks into the kitchen and wraps his arms around Myla's waist and he whispers "Sweetie, that looks really good." Myla blushes and whispers softly "I guess it was a good thing being raised by humans then."
Chan nuzzles his nose against Myla's bunny ear causing her to giggle softly as she fills his bowl up with the soup and Chan takes it and hands it off the pack, he does it repeatedly until everyone in the pack has a bowl of soup.
Chan sits on the floor next to Myla and eats his soup humming happily as he tastes the food.
Hyunjin leans forwards and kisses Myla's cheek in thanks for making the food which causes Chan to whine and whisper "will all of you stop kissing on her."
Minho glances at Chan, and he chuckles when he starts to understand what's going on and says softly "seems like Chan is going into his rut soon, we should stop pushing him so much."
Myla squeals when she hears that and she looks at Chan who stares at her his face flushed red as well as Myla's face.
"I never had a partner during my heats so um-" Myla rambles as she drinks her soup. Chan chuckles and says "Don't worry, I'll help you through it." Myla blushes even more and says "Alright."
A week later
Myla stumbles out of the bedroom with Chan behind her, they're mates now.
Minho and Hyunjin look up at them and laugh when they see Myla's hair everywhere and Minho says "can we have Myla back now or are you still possessive of her?"
Chan gives Minho a deadpan look and says "You guys can cuddle her, nuzzle her, kiss her and more now but just remember she's mine."
Minho snickers and says "So you're sharing her with us but don't want us to forget that you are her first mate." Chan nods and smirks at Minho.
Myla huffs loudly causing everyone to look at her and she looks down before speaking softly "Please don't make me into a sex object and I'm not going to mate with anyone else unless we love each other. It feels wrong."
Chan's wolf ear goes down on his head, his tail doesn't move as he feels ashamed and he walks over to her "I'm sorry darling, I'm not, we're not making you into a sex object I promise. I'm just putting them in their place."
Myla nods causing her bunny ears to move with her, Chan leans forward and kisses her forehead gently before wrapping his arms around her waist before nuzzling her in comfort.
Myla leans against him gripping his shirt as she gets affection from him and she puts her hand on his back and she whines softly.
Minho groans and says "Myla sweetie come here." Myla kisses Chan's cheek before walking over to Minho who grabs her hand gently and pulls her down into his lap, he nuzzles his face into her neck and whines softly "I missed you."
Myla blushes and kisses Minho's forehead and tells him she misses him too.
Just then the door opens relieving Han and Chanbin.
When Chanbin sees Chan he says "We built a fence around the cabin, a good one not a lame one, we did put cars up against it though incase a horde of zombies come so it'll stand more of a chance, we'll be able to go out now so we can start farming."
Chan nods and says "Good job, Chanbin and Han." Han just nods before joining Minho and cuddling into Myla's back.
Chan watches his pack with a small smile.
*
"Look what I found!" Felix says as he comes into the living where the pack was, they were all giving affection to Myla which causes Felix's ear to turn red.
"What did you find?" Chan asks as he removes himself from the pile and walks over to him. Felix blushes and doesn't go away as he hands Chan a bottle of large whiskey.
Chan chuckles and says "Well boys it looks like we're getting drunk tonight." Minho cheers as he stands up and pulls Myla with him causing the pack to whine.
Myla looks at the whiskey and says "I don't know if it's a good idea to get drunk." Chan glances at her and says "It'll be fine, sweetheart."
Myla whimpers, causing Minho to look down at her and he whispers "We won't drink as much if it bothers you."
Myla just nods and looks down at the floor as she hears Felix pour the whiskey into small glasses and he asks her softly "Do you want some?"
Myla blushes and she whispers "No, I don't drink but thank you for the offer." Felix nods and kisses her nose before drinking the whiskey cup in all one go.
Chan nuzzles Myla's side gently and kisses her ear before whispering "I promise nothing is going to happen, if you're scared maybe you should lay down."
Myla whips her head around so fast that it's painful for her when she winces when Chan's eyes widen.
"By myself?" Myla whimpers out as she stares at him in fear, the thought of being alone in a bedroom scares her.
Chan leans forward and whispers softly to her in concern "What's the matter with you? You used to be alone all the time and you can't do it now?"
Myla tears up and shoves Chan away causing everyone to freeze except Chan and Myla. Myla stands up and says tearfully "You know Chan, maybe I'm just better at hiding my feelings than most and I'm just having a weak moment."
Chan stands up slowly, he was unsure how to go about this but he had to say something so he reaches out to her and gently places his hands on her shoulders as he stands tall in front of her and he speaks softly "Myla, I'm not a mind reader just tell me what's wrong? Lean on me. I'm your alpha and mate, it's okay to lean on me. What's wrong?"
Myla whimpers sadly and whispers "Before I meant you, my old group got drunk and they got themselves and others killed because of it. I only got away because I was on my own, im- I'm not trying to control you or anything but If you and everyone wants to get drunk do it in a locked room without windows so no one gets hurt."
Chan cups the back of Myla's head gently and he leans his forehead against hers and whispers "That's not going to happen here and thank you for telling me, but we will do that okay?"
Myla nods and nuzzles Chan's cheek with her nose and she whispers "I'm sorry for shoving you." Chan hums as her scent wraps around him and he whispers "Just don't do it again."
Myla glances up at him and she whispers "Only if it'll save your life, I will." Chan blushes and he nuzzles her gently.

🕸️   It took everything in her body to not trip over the cracks in the pavement outside of her apartment building; her throat burning from both the cold and the amount of breathing she was doing as she raced towards the door.
Hands shaking as she struggled with the rusty lock, her ears pricked upward at the noise of a blood-chilling shriek, and she knew that they had spotted her again.
She was getting sloppy on her supply runs and even though she knew this, she wasn’t exactly known for having the best balance even standing still, let alone grabbing supplies from the blood-stained shops.
Letting out a small cry of relief, the door finally came unstuck, and she slammed the door shut; turning around just in time to see a small group of people slam their bodies into the thick glass door.
Their eyes bloodshot, their mouths always open and drooling, all of them agile despite whatever their human health state was like.
“Fucking arseholes,” she whispered as she tried to ignore the groaning and the screaming that was just behind a single glass door.
Dashing up the stairs, she kept her apartment key ready in her hand, anything to just be a little safer that much quicker.
“I am alive,” she called out, her breath halting for a few seconds as silence followed her announcement.
“You sound terrified,”
The deep voice made her flinch and she turned to see her best friend sitting up on his elbows, his eyes narrowing on her face and taking in her shaken form.
“Why didn’t you wake me?” he jumped over the back of the sofa and quickly gathered her up in his arms, “safety in numbers,” he added pulling back so he could look her in the eyes.
“Felix, you were sleeping, and I didn’t want to wake you up,” she replied feeling a little bashful under his gaze, “it’s been so long since you had a good night's sleep and I’m not going to wake you up for every supply run just because you think you’re okay when you clearly aren’t,”
She pouted when Felix chuckled and pet the top of her head with affection, enjoying the softness of her Dalmatian ears.
“You’re right,” he agreed surprising her quite a bit and she tilted her head to the side; the two of them making their way to the seating area, “lay with me?”
Felix helped her move the heavy backpack she was carrying and held his arms out to her, knowing fully well that she would never be able to refuse such an action.
“Evil,” she mumbled before quickly joining him on the sofa, head buried in his chest as a blanket was thrown over them.
“Maybe so but you love me,” he giggled at the scoff that was replied and he squeezed the hybrid just a little bit more out of sheer love for her, “I’m glad you’re safe,” he added quietly as he heard a loud scream coming from a floor above them.
Must be Miss Lorn’s boyfriend...finally turned Felix thought with a shudder as the screaming continued a little more before it slowly became quiet with a loud gurgling.
“Me too,” she whispered gripping the fabric of his shirt for comfort, “maybe...maybe we should barricade the door today,” she added upon hearing the rather disturbing scrambling of hands scratching at the floorboards from above.
“I’m on it,”
                                    ‧˚₊꒷꒦︶︶︶︶︶꒷꒦︶︶︶︶︶꒦꒷‧₊˚⊹
Even though the world had gone to shit, the internet seemed to still be working.
Only on select days of the month it seemed but working none-the-less.
Felix had been trying to get in contact with his best friends ever since things really started to go downhill; she could see his heart breaking every time the phone calls cut short or when they simply weren’t even working.
She had only met one of Felix’s friends and that was a man called Han Jisung.
An introverted man who was shy and anxious a lot of the time but bloomed the second he was comfortable with you.
She always had had a soft spot for Han and had enjoyed his company very much whenever he’d visited Felix, the two men extremely close thanks to their birthdays being one day apart.
She had assumed that Han would’ve been the first one he would try to get in touch with but apparently there was another man from Australia that he was the closest too.
“Still nothing?” she asked quietly as she eyed Felix, who was leant over his laptop with a very exhausted expression on his lovely face, “Lix?” she pushed gently when silence followed her question, and he looked up slowly with a sad shake of his head.
“I don’t even know if they’re safe,” he whispered trying his very best not to cry, “Channie-hyung is tough but his kindness is the thing that will get him in trouble...people will take advantage,” he closed his laptop and rubbed his face harshly; leaving red marks on himself.
“Minho-hyung is tough and no nonsense, but playful and kind...I guess he’ll be the one who would be around the longest,” Felix picked at his nails, and she knew that he was just talking to vent out his anxiety; so, she stayed quiet and nodded, “Changbin-hyung and Hyunjin-hyung live together, so I think they’ll be alright but Changbin is loud and a hot-head sometimes,” he pulled at his thick brown locks, “Hannie....” he seemed to be particularly stressed when talking about the slightly older man.
“Hannie is smart, and I think his anxiety benefits him...he’s not that great with social situations unless we’re with him so I think...I think he’ll be hiding in his home or with Channie-hyung...they’re super close,” he took a deep breath and turned to look at her for the first time since his ramble.
“Seungie and Jeongin are the youngest of our friendship group but I believe that they are together, I hope they’re together,” he whispered, “I believe they’ll be okay but they get overwhelmed easily and I just don’t know what to do!” he finally broke down in tears and she rushed towards him; pulling him into her chest and stroking his hair as he sobbed into shirt, gripping the back of it so hard she thought it would rip.
“I will help you find them,” she squeezed him tightly and kissed his forehead when he eventually looked up, “I will find them,” she knew it was giving him false hope, but she couldn’t stand to see the utter distress upon his face.
“I don’t want them to be hurt,” he whimpered as his face turned a bright shade of red due to his crying, “I love them,” he bit his bottom lip nervously before smiling ever so slightly when she bumped her head against his affectionately.
“I know you do,” she replied looking at the front door at the sudden sound of screeching, which caused them both to bolt towards said door just in case they had to hold it shut once again.
“How are they still in the building?” Felix shook his head, voice still wrecked because of his crying.
“I don’t know, I thought I had gotten rid of them all on this floor,” she eyed the peephole and felt her stomach drop at the sight of them running down the halls; clearly on the scent of something and she hoped it wasn’t one of the poor pets in the other apartments.
“Might be newbies,” Felix sighed heavily, “I still think it’s to do with the water around here,” he added making her shrug.
“Could be, I haven’t been using any water for drinking that didn’t come out of a bottle,” she confessed, “bad for the planet but so is this virus,” she continued making Felix laugh.
“Same here,” he confessed as they moved away from the door and back towards his bedroom; shutting the door behind them.
A rule the two of them had come up with in case their front door was knocked down during the night, they would still have a barrier between them and the zombies.
Sleeping together was also another safety rule they’d made as they’d be able to 1. hold the door better with two and 2. have more chances to fight the zombies off if, God forbid, they got in.
Plus, they were just scared to be by themselves.
“Have you tried to call them?” she moved to his side on the bed and cuddled up with her arms locked around one of his, chin on his shoulder.
“I think using phones is going to be pointless,” he puffed a big sigh out, “fucking thing hasn’t been able to connect a call in about,” he paused, “three-four weeks,”
This news came as a surprise to her as Felix hadn’t even mentioned this to her.
“Three-four weeks?!” she gasped, and he nodded, “oh Felix,” she almost cooed at his saddened expression, her fingers gently brushing his hair from his face so she could look at his dark brown eyes.
He, in turn, looked back at her feeling quite hopeless, his head pushing forward so their foreheads were together.
“I have you,” he whispered closing his eyes, “so it’s not all bad,” he felt his face flush red at the sudden confession, and he moved away from her, eyes darting to the grey carpet of his room.
There was a short silence that followed his statement.
She would be lying if she hadn’t picked up on a weird atmosphere surrounding the two of them lately; not that she hated the feeling, but it was just a little strange.
Felix was always a touchy person; often pulling her into cuddles for most of the day or just petting her ears as she curled up beside him, kissing her forehead or cheek whenever he felt particularly soft.
But recently the cuddles had become longer and tighter, the kisses had become more frequent, and his lips lingered.
Even she had become aware that she was also being a lot more affectionate with Felix; even brave enough now to kiss him back on several occasions.
She considered the man a forever packmate, even though she didn’t have a pack in the first place.
Maybe she was confusing simple pack-love with romantic love? She wasn’t too knowledgeable about Hybrid pack lives, having been brought up with a Human family since birth.
Shaking her head furiously, startling Felix in the process, she cleared her throat and threw herself down onto the bed, pulling the covers over her body.
“We should get some rest, we need to go on another supply run soon,” she faked a yawn and made sure to face away from him as she tried to figure her thoughts out but still pushed backwards as Felix joined her, arm thrown around her waist protectively.
It was annoying that her tail was wagging.
Fucking traitor!

Chapter 2
Tumblr media
Jeongin had fallen asleep, leaning against the window, Seonghwa and Chan were having a very aggressive staring contest in the mirror, Felix on the other hand smiled at you.
"So y/n," Felix said, "What did you do before the apocalypse?"
You shrugged, "I was just starting medical school."
"So you might know how to help Minho."
You nodded. "What's wrong with him?"
"he's been really sleepy and he kept saying he had a headache then it got worse... and his neck got stiff... then he got the fever and he started feeling weak-"
"Meningitis?" Seonghwa asked, finally looking away from Chan.
"Maybe..." You said quietly.
"What do we do?" Chan said looking at you in the rearview mirror.
"I have to see when I get there." You made a face at him.
He sucked in a breath, "Fine."
You smiled slightly and began asking Felix about his life before the apocalypse. You found out from him that Chan liked singing.
"Chan used to sing every day... even the stupid jingles on TV-"
"That's enough." Chan said, squeezing the wheel.
Felix went quiet.
Chan turned into a tunnel and stopped the car.
Seonghwa looked around. "Where are we?"
"Home." Felix said and shook Jeongin awake.
"Yongbokkie, help me open the gate." Chan said as he got out of the car.
You got out and walked around the back of the car to Chan's side, Seonghwa looked up and down the tunnel before grabbing you and hissing in you ear. "I don't trust this place."
"Then sleep outside." Chan spat before going to a pile of melted metal and a rusted car.
He shifted the metal and after a few hard pulls, Felix got the car door to open. You saw a flashing light and stared at curiously as it turned green before Felix entered the car. Jeongin followed close behind. You stared at the dark inside of the car curiously.
"Go." Chan said. "It's not dangerous."
You made a face. "It looks dangerous."
Chan let go of the door and it closed, "Look, if we didn't need you to fix Minho you and your friend wouldn't be here. I don't like killing other people. You know where we stay. I either kill you here. Or you join us and get the fuck inside."
Seonghwa stepped between you and Chan, looking down at him, "Try and kill her."
Chan sucked in a breath turning around before reaching for something. The car door opened from the inside and someone stared at you. He had thin cat like eyes and long black hair, and plush lips.
"What's going on?" He stepped fully out of the car and looked from you and Seonghwa to Chan. "Who are these people?"
"They can help Minho." Chan said, "Since I'm so threatening talk to the face of our operations." He rolled his eyes and opened the car door before entering.
The man looked at you and Seonghwa, "When was the last time you showered." He waved his hand in front of his nose. "I'm Hyunjin. If I get this right I must know Chan so well. He scared you, you don't want to enter. But if you don't enter, he has to kill you."
You nodded.
Seonghwa huffed. "Look-"
"N-no I get it. It was the same way when I found these guys. But I promise, it's safe here." He smiled gently and opened the door.
You looked at Seonghwa who started shaking his head but you threw you bag in before entering yourself.
You slid past the seats realizing the car was slanted, and stumbled into a dark tunnel you saw a light at the end of the tunnel and followed it to a big well lit room, natural light poured in from a window in the ceiling.
"There she is." Felix smiled, "Guys, this is y/n. y/n, this is Jisung," he motioned to a man with dark hair and chubby chipmunk like cheeks, "Changbin," A muscular man with a scar on his face, "Seungmin," A boy with light brown hair and a calm face, "and Minho is probably sleeping."
You looked around their base, it was a wide area, probably formally used for tunnel maintenance. To the right was a living like area with a couch and table with trinkets decorating shelves several passages led somewhere, to the back was two passages, to the left was a big kitchen with a gas cooker and fridge.
Your brows furrowed. "You have power."
"Always." Felix smiled, "Perks of having two geniuses around," he motioned to Hyunjin and Seungmin. "If Hyunjin imagines it, Seungmin and find someway to throw it together."
You nodded, motioning to the two doors to the back.
Changbin perked up, "We aren't allowed back there. Even if Chan and I built this place together, I can't see what's to the right door. As for the left," He looked at Seonghwa, "We'll see when we trust you."
Seonghwa pursed his lips.
Jisung smiled at you slightly. "It's been so long since we had a girl here... alive anyway. I feel under dressed."
You laugh lightly and shrug, "Don't worry about it, I can't say I'm much better."
Jisung laughed slightly, "We have a shower, can't say if Hyunjin and Seungmin have figured out hot water yet but you can give it a try."
"Speaking of which," Felix grabbed your hand and dragged you down a hall to the right and down the left of a split in the hall before opening a door. "You can stay here." He looked at Seonghwa. "I can find you guys a bigger bed if you nee-"
"I'll sleep alone thanks." Seonghwa rolled his eyes.
You laughed and threw your bag onto the bed, looking around the small space. Unlike the other places you had stayed with Seonghwa and the outside, despite the heat, here it was cool. You sat on the bed and smiled at how soft it was, you looked at the small dresser for your clothes and hummed.
Felix poked his head in after a few minutes. "I can show you to the shower," he held out a towel.
You stood and took it, opening the door and following him out into the hall. The shower room was a very small space with carefully put together piping and tile flooring with a rubber mat.
Felix smiled and handed you soap and a wash cloth, "Uh, I don't know what else you girls use to bathe so... consult Hyunjin if you need anything extra."
You laughed. "This is enough, thanks."
"Okie dokie." Felix nodded, "As Sungie warned, the hot water might not always work so... good luck." He smiled sweetly and closed the door.
After questioning yourself in the shower about how you survived so long without warm water you finished your shower and allowed Seonghwa his turn.
You were sorting through your bag, looking at what you had and what you could put where when Changbin threw your door open.
"Minho is awake." His eyes were worried.
You stared at Minho, he was a very pretty man, about Chan's age, with small lips and observant eyes.
"Who is that?" he asked the moment you entered the room.
"She's going to help." Hyunjin said, looking at you.
"Help me how? She a doctor or something?" Minho sat up.
"You could say that." Chan exhaled slowly.
"Lay back." You said.
Minho stared at you for a moment before laying back.
You felt his head, "Hyunjin." You looked at him, "Get me my bag, it's on my bed."
Hyunjin ran off to get it.
"Relax, I'm going to test you for something." You put Minho's arms on his abdomen and took his pillow from under his head.
Chan stared at you with narrowed eyes as Hyunjin returned, Seonghwa following him, "I don't want that Pomeranian in here-"
"Chan who are these people?" Minho tried to sit up but you pushed him back down with a glare.
"Who are you calling a Pomeranian?" Seonghwa said, walking across the room.
Minho pushed you off and held his head as he sat up. "Stay away from Chan-"
Chan got in Seonghwa's face and then you lost it.
"SHUT THE FUCK UP! BOTH OF YOU!"
Seonghwa and Chan stared at you.
"Out." You said quietly.
"You can't order me around-" Chan started.
"Channie." Minho looked at him. "Go..."
Chan sucked in a breath and left.
Seonghwa looked at you before walking out after Chan.
You got Minho to take the acetaminophen from your bag and had him lie back again. You lifted his head and watched his lower half.
You sucked in a breath as his knees bent slightly.
"Hyunjin." You said quietly.
"Yeah?" He looked at you.
"How long has Minho been sick?"
"A little less than a week.."
"He's got meningitis..."
"Is it bad?" Hyunjin's face fell.
"I think he'll live if he's made it this far. We just have to keep the fever down." You sighed softly. "make sure you wash your hands."
You ended up watching Minho most of the late afternoon into the evening and even in the night to keep his fever down, switching every now and then with Hyunjin. Living with the boys you noticed how rare it was for Chan to be around and about the hideout.
"Does Chan always stay away from you guys?" You asked Jeongin one day.
"No, not really." Jeongin said, "You're just not out when he's out."
You nodded to yourself, determining based on those words, Chan must be active at night, compared to the other member who were loud and rowdy in the day.
You were watching Minho, checking his temperature quickly before leaving to get water. It was dark out, from what you could see through the window in the center room. You got a bottle of water and looked around. How lucky did you have to be... You hadn't died in the initial wave... You found Seonghwa...you found Chan... You could drink water peacefully.
The sound of steps made you look up, Chan stood in the hall looking at you.
You looked back at him.
"Minho okay?" he asked as he grabbed a bottle from the top shelf above the stove. Alcohol.
"He's fine." You said sipping your water.
Chan poured himself a cup of the alcohol and looked at you. "Never thought you'd actually do it." he said before drinking.
"What?" You looked at him.
"When we left we were sure Minho would die before we got back," He said quietly, staring into his cup. "I owe it to you," He looked at you. "Thank you."
"I've been here a whole two days and this is the first thing you say to me." You laugh lightly.
"Wasn't like you were available to talk." He huffed.
"Well, Chan, you're welcome." You shrugged and finished your water, pushing away from the counter, you walked to the hall. "And... for everything," You motioned to the room. "For letting us stay, thank you..."

“You look like shit, baby.”
“Yeah? You should see the other guy.”
You winced instead of laughing along with him. “Seungmin, take care of the others, please? I need to talk to Jisung.”
Seungmin nodded before leaving the two of you alone. You sighed before saying, “Come here.”
Jisung trudged over to you before collapsing in your arms. “Mmm, thanks baby.”
“This isn’t what I meant!” You groaned before placing him on the table next to you. “Now, show me where it hurts the most.”
He puckered his lips.
“Jisung!”
“Alright, fine.” Carefully, he lifted his shirt to show the nasty wound down his abdomen. “Chan said it wasn’t that deep. It just grazed the surface.”
“Still! You could have been seriously injured or worse!” You exclaimed, quickly cleaning and disinfecting the slash with medical precision.
He sucked in his breath through his teeth. “But I didn’t, so it’s okay.”
“No, it’s not okay! It’s not okay, Jisung!” In your franticness, you knocked over the bottle of disinfectant. “Shit.”
“Hey, hey, hey!” Jisung grabbed your hands and tried to make eye contact with you. “Take a deep breath and relax. I’m okay, I promise!”
“But what if you weren’t?” Your voice cracked. “I hate this. I hate how you go out there and risk your life while I’m stuck in here hoping you come back. I can’t keep living like this.”
He dropped his gaze to his thumb rubbing over your knuckles. “I’m sorry. It’s not fair of me to ask you to keep doing this for me. But I don’t want you hurt either. This is how the world is now. It’s not fair and I hate it too. But there’s nothing we can do until we’re safe again.”
You touched his cheek. “You can still try and come back to me.”
“I promise.” He pressed a kiss to your forehead. “I promise to always come back to you.”
Shaking your head, you said, “I ask for no promises. They’re too easy to break. Just try and get better in the meantime again, okay?”
“Of course. I have the best doctor in the world looking after me.”
