It’s rare that he gets to see Daniel’s first meal of the day. He’s picked through his memories, he knows that on the Night Island he tends to wake in the afternoon, stumble down to the kitchen to graze. Daniel takes advantage of the ability to call their private chefs in to make him bacon, eggs. Food that sits heavy on his stomach so that he has to wander back to bed to sleep off the rest of the day. After that it doesn’t much matter, Daniel thinks. He’ll get Armand’s blood and that’s enough to hold him over. A cycle of snacking and blood sharing that repeats and repeats and repeats.

“LIsten, we need to make a pact,” Daniel mumbles between bites. “No more west-bound long haul flights. At least not without a couple days between each layover.”

Armand frowns. “Was it so burdensome to fly without me beside you?” 

It had been odd, departing in the evening in the cargo hold, trapped within the box that contained his coffin. Moving backwards through time. To leave in the dark but arrive in the middle of the morning- it creates a certain kind of inertia, he finds. 

Perhaps it’s what they mean when they say ‘jet lagged’. All of that effort to only be in a place for a week and then they’ll be moving on. Tickets to Thailand, to Nepal, to Greece. They wait in Daniel’s bag. More travel, pre-planned, predestined. A time limit on every stop. Armand wonders how exhausted they’ll both be by the end. 

Daniel spears a vegetable on his fork. He shrugs. “I don’t like it. Being without you.”

Without the blood.

This too, Armand recognizes from his youth. The ravenous fits that come between the tastes of blood. He remembers clearly being sixteen and not eating for days after the drinks his master had given him, and then falling upon the table and out eating all of the other boys.

There’s hollows beneath Daniel’s eyes. A sharpness to his cheekbones that hadn’t been there when they’d met, and perhaps that’s a sign of the march of time- he is, after all, creeping up on thirty now; no longer the wide eyed boy Armand had met but a man in his own right. But then-

His spoon clacks against the glass parfait cup. Daniel digs in straight to the bottom where the ice cream is, bypassing the fruit and whipped cream and chocolate sauce. Somewhere near his lap comes the sound of his insides churning. The wet sound of his stomach straining to accommodate that which he hasn’t consumed in- days? Weeks, perhaps. Armand can’t keep track.

He should be doing better than this. He ought to be taking better care of him but Daniel makes it so hard. The world makes it hard, with how anything and everything can catch his fascination. Like right now.

Something bubbles beneath the surface of him. A desire he can’t quite put a name to, a thread he’ll have to pull at until Daniel unwinds and he understands what it is that he seeks. Some unfinished business from the Copley, perhaps. The meal wherein he’d fed Daniel a bit of everything, only to depart before he could see the effect it had upon him.

There’s so much more he understands about Daniel now. And still so much to find out. He’ll never know him intimately enough.

Armand rests his chin on his hand. He takes in the way Daniel’s tongue sticks out the slightest bit when the spoon nears his mouth, the bob of his adam’s apple when he swallows. Daniel licks an errant blob of whipped cream from his upper lip and it leaves his mouth glossy with his saliva.

I wanna talk about the scene in the museum with Azul...

(SPOILERS FOR BOOK 3 AHEAD. ALSO LOTS OF RAMBLING! :D)

During Ch. 38 of Book 3, Azul and Yuu have a short conversation post-overblot in the underwater museum place. I always felt that this bit of dialogue was weirdly charged? The whole scene felt very intimate to me (and the soft music in the background doesn't help lmao), but I never knew WHY since nothing said was inherently romantic.

So, I went back and re-read through every post-overblot and realized that Azul is the only who who has a one-on-one conversation with Yuu after their overblot??

It's rare enough to have one-on-one conversations between Yuu and another character, but then Azul goes a step further. He's the only one to open up to Yuu about his problems:

Some of the other overblot boys talk about their problems, but not to Yuu specifically. It's more of a declaration than confiding in someone, you know? (E.g. Riddle talking about how he prefers milk tea even though the rules stipulate lemon tea)

We, the players, are shown flashbacks of the overblot boys to explain how they reached this point but I can't recall if Yuu is privy to this information as well. (It's theoretically possible since Yuu already has visions / dreams of the Great Seven, but no one ever mentions it so who knows. I'm personally on the side of Yuu NOT knowing because it feels a bit invasive that they'd have this knowledge of people who weren't ready to share it.)

Regardless of whether Yuu can or cannot see those flashbacks, Azul is the only one to willingly talk about his motivations to Yuu. For Azul, this is especially important as he's so protective of his image as a clever and upstanding housewarden, and yet here he openly admits to Yuu that he was a bit of a loser as a kid (his words not mine!).

I guess you could argue that he felt there was no reason to hide it anymore since Yuu already saw him as a chubby octopus baby, but he didn't have to talk about it at all if he didn't want to. But he did. On his own. With no prompting. (Really, though. Yuu can either say they want to make sure he puts the photo back or that they're worried about him, and either way he drops his lore on them lol) And then Yuu tries to help him feel better??

To my knowledge, Yuu doesn't do this with any of the other overblot boys, either. I could have missed it during my research, but if they did it wasn't nearly to the same extent as with Azul.

I still don't know why Azul felt like opening up to Yuu. He didn't have to, but maybe he wanted to? Maybe he wanted to try his hand at being genuine for once and felt Yuu was the least intimidating person to do it with (the magicless human that they are). Who knows? I wish there were more scenes like this. It makes Yuu feel more included in the story. I also think it shows a lot of growth on Azul's end to open up about his problems to Yuu of his own volition.

I'm not sure what I wanted to say with this post, only that I wanted to get my thoughts out there about this scene because it always stood out to me. I felt there was always an undercurrent of something and I think it's because this was the only post-overblot private conversation we got with Yuu and an overblot boy, plus the added encouragement from Yuu at the end.

I'm curious to know if anyone felt the same way about this scene or if I'm just imagining things. I'm also interested in hearing any theories why Azul suddenly felt the urge to open up to Yuu, if you've got them!

the ficlet where marie gets absorbed in the bigender gaze and does anything to get jordan’s attention.

jealousy wasn’t a trait that marie was proud to experience, in fact, it left a sour feeling deep in the pits her stomach. her jaw would clench tight until she was sore, nails digging into the palm of her hands until she realized her hands had balled into fists. jealousy was an emotion she wish she could shove away and forget because it made her do crazy things, all because she desperately craved the attention of jordan li.

why them? why the hell did she want jordan's attention of all people? they were an asshole when they first met.

maybe it was the way jordan stared at them when they thought she didn't notice, or how they would text her late at night when they were both restless and unable to sleep. time slowly developed feelings and jordan proved to be nicer than expected... and they were so damn hot.

the only thing was that other than late-night texts or catching gazes with each other, jordan didn't really give her the time of day. unbeknownst to her, they were fucking terrified of rejection, but to marie – she was getting ignored.

and she was sick of it.

that's how she found herself in the bathroom of a party, reapplying dark red lipstick in the mirror and adjusting her top. she ignored the fact that she hated how she was acting, how trying to get jordan's attention was consuming her to the point that she was spending more time getting ready in the bathroom than actually socializing with others. after smacking her lips together a couple times, she was satisfied with her application and took in a sharp breath.

“you got this.” marie said to herself in the mirror, nodding slowly a few times before hastily leaving the bathroom.

the halls were full of people laughing, kissing and chatting — she forced herself through so she could go downstairs and try to spot jordan in the sea of students. it felt nearly impossible, until she spotted the glimmering silver of the necklace that adorned their neck. then, she spotted blonde hair, that had to be cate.

marie ventured closer, thankful that she downed a few shots earlier. her plan was to go, say hi to cate and hope that jordan would be entertained enough to start a conversation. easy enough.

that was until she realized the blonde girl was not cate.

the girl’s hair was shorter, a blunt bob and large, brown eyes. her smile was gorgeous. it was no wonder that jordan was completely enraptured by her, their hand lifted up to brush some hair behind her ear.

sick to her stomach was all marie felt. the shots of tequila feeling like they were finally coming up, settling in the base of her throat. a few stumbled steps back was enough to snap her back into reality, though, she still wasn’t content with what she saw.

an idea flickered in her hazy, drunken mind.

she hadn’t noticed how jordan had already broken off the conversation with the girl. not quite interested in what she had to say, finding the conversation… boring. they’d already found themselves standing deeper in the kitchen and striking up a conversation with luke and cate to better pass the time while downing more beer.

marie, blissfully unaware, instead scouring the room for something — someone — that would catch her eye. brown eyes flickered around the room until her gaze met with someone near the entrance to the kitchen, a taller girl with a beer in her hand. her hair was brown and short, styled in a messy shag. dark olive skin unblemished and perfect in all ways.

after a few beats of uninterrupted eye contact, the muster smirked at marie with interest. that’s all she needed for the liquid courage to do it’s magic.

marie was fully aware how this was completely out of her element, but god, something about this entire situation had her feeling anything like herself.

as jordan glanced around the party from behind the kitchen island, a red cup in hand full of crap beer, they spotted marie. a tiny smirk formed on their lips as their head tilted in curiosity, smile dropping with they noticed her walking over to another figure. just as they were about to turn back and ask cate about ditching the party to go to a club in haste — they saw marie’s hand lift up to rest on the taller girl’s shoulder.

what the fuck?

she smiled up at her with a toothy grin, reaching her half-lidded eyes. they saw the way her chest moved, likely laughing to some stupid joke. ignoring her would’ve been easy if it weren’t for they way they saw how marie was unbelievably close to her. it wasn’t necessary for a simple conversation.

teeth clenched together and cate was quick to notice the anger decorating jordan’s face. blue eyes followed their gaze and — yeah. that was definitely marie making out with a senior.

“wow,” cate murmured, glancing at jordan with a smirk on her lips, “you know her plan is working right?”

jordan had already crushed the red up in their hand, “what?” they snapped in rhetoric response, eyes burning as the girl’s hand touched the small of marie’s back as they kissed with far too much tongue.

“you know what i mean,” cate hummed knowingly as a gloved hand held the can of a wine cooler to her lips, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world, “see?”

marie pulled apart from the kiss and instead of looking up at girl, those brown eyes landed across the room onto jordan’s. her cheeks were flushed a deep red and she was out of breath.

“so stupid,” jordan mumbled, but their uncaring tone didn’t match their actions. they pushed themselves away from their position of leaning against the kitchen counter and made way straight for marie.

a masculine hand hooked on her slender elbow and dragged her away, an utter of a “what the fuck?” coming from the female super that jordan bore glares into. marie didn’t dare fight the sudden tugging. it was what she wanted. it was what she had been asking for indirectly.

all she wanted was to feel jordan’s hands on hers. to be told that she’s so damned annoying through mumbles because jordan’s lips were attached to her neck. she got what she wanted.

…

later that evening when dusty’s house was emptying, and marie and jordan were no longer biting at each other’s throats… literally, the group had found themselves lingering around.

marie was in the kitchen, having the last of a bottle of coconut rum, while jordan was getting mad at dusty for only having cheap beer. cate and emma seemingly appeared on each side of her, smirks on their faces.

“i didn’t realize you could be so toxic,” emma said, her eyes heavy and red from the weed she’d smoked, smiling as she pulled herself up to sit on the counter.

“what? i wasn’t toxic,” marie slurred, looking between her two friends as she set down the bottle, “i just wanted to taste what flavour lip balm she was wearing.”

cate and emma fell into a moment of silence before they bursted out into laughter together and at the expense of marie’s defensiveness, clutching their stomachs until they could finally calm themselves.

“it’s true!” marie hiccuped, trying so hard to defend the obvious lie, “…but she wasn’t even wearing any.”

the laughter erupted again.

Social Cues by Cage The Elephant - Far From Home Peter. Literally that scene where Peter gets overwhelmed by the reporters, pressured and frazzled by the expectations of being the new biggest hero. Shy little guy in his Iron Spider suit.

Idle Worship by Paramore - Fury and so many others expecting the world of Peter when he's still just a kid who's expertise is stopping bike thiefs and helping elders cross the street. They set him so high on this pedestal that when he falls the impact will be so much harder.

The Kids Are All Dying by FINNEAS - Everyone turning against Peter because of Mysterio's lies. Peter frustrated they're so focused on him, just a kid who's trying to do good, that they're blind to the real problems. Everyone is so gullible and maybe Peter is second guessing being a hero considering how angry everyone is at him for it.

Figure 8 by Paramore - "all for your sake, became the very thing that I hate, I lost my way" this song is Peter's frustration at Mysterio and shield in general, how they took him and forced him to be someone he wasn't and how it backfired "I was only being kind but you mistook me for weak" Peter is far more trusting and forgiving than most, but once he's mad... his true strength shows.

Would've, Could've, Should've by Taylor Swift - Peter regretting trusting Beck. "If I was a child did it matter, if you got to wash your hands" Beck doesn't care that Peter is an innocent kid in this, only cares about his goal and hatred for Tony. "but lord you made me feel important, and then you tried to erase us" Beck made him feel seen and special in a time where no one else was (Peter had low self esteem and was easy to manipulate).

Why by Derivakat - another Beck and Peter angst theme (Mysterio is my fave villain sorry lol) "look at what you've done, is this what you call glory? do you still believe you're the hero of your story?" Beck has caused so much suffering just because of his grudge against a dead man. "you act like a judge enforcing your personal grudge. am I to pay for this war you've raised?" Beck admits that Peter is an innocent chest pawn in all this, and still Peter ends up losing the most.

Daylight by Taylor Swift - Peter and MJ anthem 🥺 finally seeing the great thing that has been right in front of him all along. Also- "I wounded the good and I trusted the wicked" hurting his friends because he trusted Mysterio. "Clearing the air I breathed in the smoke" Peter clearing his name from what Beck did to protect his friends, but he ended up poisoning himself (No Way Home ending).

because i liked a boy by Sabrina Carpenter - all because Peter trusted Beck he nearly destroyed the planet and then he lost everyone he loves. "now I'm a homewrecker I'm a slut, I got death threats filling up semi trucks. tell who I am, guess I don't have a choice. All because I liked a boy" change homewrecker and slut into menace and murderer and it's just like what the media is saying, sending Spider-Man constant hate and telling him who he is, and all is happening because Peter trusted Beck and gave him the power of EDITH.

What I'm Becoming by Cage The Elephant - Peter and May :(. "I'm so sorry honey, for what I'm becoming. Everything you wanted, seems so far from me. never meant to hurt you no, never meant to make you cry" May wanted Peter to be selfless and kind, to vouch for second chances even for criminals and villains. Now Peter is the one trying to take Green Goblin's life because he got May killed, and deep down he knows May would be disappointed.

my tears ricochet by Taylor Swift - No Way Home final battle and saying goodbyes. "you wear the same jewels that I gave you as you bury me... cause when I'd fight you used to tell me I was brave, and if I'm dead to you why are you at the wake. cursing my name, wishing I stayed, look at how my tears ricochet" MJ still wearing the necklace after forgetting. Desperate and making Peter promise he'll get her to remember, sharing tears. They're all haunted by someone they used to know. "I can go anywhere I want, anywhere I want just not home" is of course Peter being a free man but at the cost of losing everything he called home.

R.I.P. 2 My Youth by The Neighborhood - basically Peter losing all of his mentor's and support system, leaving school and getting a place of his own - the end to his youth. He steps fully into his role as Spider-Man and with it Peter Parker, the sweet naive kid he was, has died.

Making the Bed by Olivia Rodrigo - "push away all the people who know me the best, but it's me who's been making the bed". Even though it was Peter's decision to erase his name and protect the people he cared about, he hates going back to that dingey apartment all alone each day. "another thing I ruined, I used to do for fun" is about how bittersweet being Spidey is now.

Cigarette Daydreams by Cage The Elephant - "cigarette daydream, you were only seventeen. So sweet with a mean streak" this song's vibes are sweet boy beaten down, still trying to remain gentle in the face of violence :( Peter looking for reasons to remain good while everything crumbles around him.

Your Best American Girl by Mitski - "you have so much to do, but I have nothing head of me" Peter to his friends. He knew being Spider-Man he'd never have a normal life, so he decided to let them go instead of dragging them down with him. "you're the one, you're all I ever wanted I think I'll regret this" is Peter in that coffee shop making the final decision to leave them.

Happy Now? by FINNEAS - Peter's journey as Spider-Man, a post No Way Home Peter reminiscing about his career. I love the line "always such an anxious child, never wild, always worrying". Makes me think about homecoming Peter and how he was giving up all his clubs and time with his friends to be a superhero just because he felt a responsibility (civil war Peter telling Tony why he does this speech).

The Plan (Fuck Jobs) by The Front Bottoms - sardonic Peter, bitter and sarcastic post No Way Home. Him vs. the daily bugle, a broke and mentally unstable young adult. Comic Peter vibes.

Ya'burnee by Halsey - Peter thinking about MJ and how badly he wants to confess to her again who he is and why he loves her. They had so little time to be a couple together, immediately sweeped into a media circus and having their lives endangered time and time again. This song is just a Peter Parker open heart surgery.

I miss you, I'm sorry by Gracie Abrams - bittersweet anthem to Peter MJ and Ned ending their friendship. "nothing happened in the way I wanted... I don't want go think I'll make it worse, everything I know brings me back to us" :(

Matilda by Harry Styles - "you talk of the pain like it's all alright, but I know that you feel like a piece of you's dead inside" Peter is such an optimist. He left that coffee shop with a smile for his friends getting into MIT, but he doesn't allow himself to feel grief for that life he was supposed to have too. I think he deserves to feel his sadness and understand it wasn't his fault, that nothing is wrong with him. "you don't have to be sorry for leaving and growing up/for doing it on your own" I hope he doesn't regret his choices, and that things will get better for him.

... not actually playing, but fooling SO DAMN HARD. P'Aof is going to destroy our hearts even more this time! Let me tell you secrets of episode 6!

Well, episode 5 made me so emotional invested that I still have a lot to say. However we need to move on (like Day with his feelings for August) and prepare ourselves for episode 6. I needed to rewatch all materials many times to find some evidence, because everything seemed pretty obvious (running), but when I found what I found... Fasten your seatbelts, my friends.

As we already know next episode will be about Day starting training after P'On's visit. Let me take a moment to say that I'm so happy for this man: it seems he's dating that girl from Tinder yay!!

Just one little disclaimer: this time I don't have enough material for proper timing predictions, so I just give you a bunch of random situations.

1: August visiting Day

It's Converse vs Vans, haha! We'll see August who came to visit Day. Mhok is trying to be protective, but let's be realistic he doesn't have any rights to decide whether August can come in or not. That's why August will see Day. It'll happen definitely after that P'On's invitation to enjoy running race next month. Mhok will bring Day's sneakers. Just to end up having August near again, ah...

2: Wanna have a dinner?

This is the most exciting part of the preview. They will spent this day with August, three of them with Mhok being a third wheel (I have a theory that it's P'On who invited August to join running race, don't ask me why, I will be happy to be wrong...) However later, when it's dark outside and there're just two of them again, Mhok is definitely trying to ask Day for a date. Even though they both know that there's another guy who Day have feelings for. Maybe it turned out that those feelings aren't there anymore? Interesting!

3. Happiness or sadness?

I know everyone is waiting for these scenes with sunset (or sunrise?) and Day and Mhok being extremely close to each other and Mhok placing his hands on Day's hands looking with those loving eyes like Day is the most beautiful form of sun in the sky and who even cares about those sunsets and sunrises... But there's something tricky!

First of all Mhok will give Day something like... vitamins? Or maybe it's medicine for... for what? Also it can be that pill for someone with a hangover haha.

Now you can ask me why the **** I ended such a beautiful compilation with P'Aof teaching Jimmy smoking like a pro. I also have a question: why rehearsing smoking in this clothing at night if everything was so sweet and Mhok is trying to quite smoking because of Day? Last time we've seen Mhok smoking was like... 4 episodes ago? And he didn't take that cigarette even being nervous about Day and August's date. What if something went wrong after such a wonderful scenery?..

Also I need to mention this:

So maybe after Phojai's words Mhok decided to tell Day something more?.. So many questions.

4. Turning point

They're gonna spoil us with another wholesome moment of Mhok giving Day something that makes Day shine brighter than the sun.

And then I've noticed something.

Same T-shirt. Brown hoodie from another part of this episode. Coincidence? I think this word isn't about P'Aof's style.

Yes, next episode we'll face heart wrenching scene of Day discovering he's gonna lose his vision completely. Maybe it will be the last part of the episode or even the end of it. That's why I was so afraid of writing this prediction, I just... I just don't want this scene to come, but it's already episode 6 and we have this information about 180 days after all... Huh, that's hard.

5. Bonus with Night

Do you remember this flashback scene where Day came home after discovering he's visually impaired now? Asking mom not to tell anyone what happened to him.

Day thinks that Night is fooling him and everyone around. In Day's head Night is trying to take everything from his younger brother. Day's memory keeps that scene with mother, but without Night. It's time to have a look at Night's truth. Don't you think he looks extremely upset, worried, maybe feeling guilty? What happened before that car accident, Night? What did you do?

That's all for this episode. I know that there're a lot of small things like reading that "Last Twilight" book or another running training that should happen too. Let's enjoy it on Friday without thinking too much.

I also have some words for Day and Mhok developing feelings. It seems they're both not each other's type. I mean they both used to love others on their own terms.

Day likes to dress up, to look cool and it's really important for him that his crush is also looks good. Mhok don't like to be 24/7 with a person he likes and prefer showing his attraction by fixing different things. Already noticed? This time Day is developing feelings for someone he can barely see and moreover who can see Day in his worst - clumsy, dirty and even naked (okay, it's not the worst, but it's embarrassing as hell). This time Mhok fell for a person who he need to spend all his time with and he can't fix Day's eyes no matter how good technician he is.

It's hard to be in love as an adult. Sometimes it's not about love at first sight, not about same favorite songs, not about similar social status. It's a deep bonding with care and respect. And I want for Day and Mhok to be able to tell each other 'I love you' on daily basis without shame or hesitation, without fear❤️

Thank you sososo much for reading. I tried this investigation to be as short as possible, but it turned out we still have a lot of bread crumbs. hi im gonna write a drifteris fic (with different names) for a creative writing contest but i desperately need a prompt, you are The Drifteris Person™ and i would trust you with my life so please do you have any prompt recommendations 😭

I do not know when I became the Drifteris person but, while I feel unworthy of the title, I will try my very best to give you something lovely.  If at some point in future you wish to share what you've written I would love to read it.  Anything I can do to increase the amount of Drifteris in the world delights me intensely.

Here's a bunch of story ideas for things I might write some day that you (and anyone else who wants) are free to use (ideas are not stories - take them, use them, write your thing and revel in the glory that is human creativity).  Some are quite unoriginal, but the thing about writing is if you get too original no one can relate to it, so always give yourself permission to do something that's already been done.  Only you can write a thing like you.  No matter what the base idea is, the actual writing is still your own.

Specifically set in Beyond Light: Europa (because I feel robbed we did not get enough of those two in BL - for research, watch the awesome cutscene: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IAD6E_vESJY&t=18s or the videos of their conversations with the player by the fire)

The Drifter takes Eris fishing to one of the fishing spots in game (why does she go with him?  she lost a bet? or perhaps she asked him to take her fishing and he's nervous about them getting shot? so many possibilities!)

Drifter shows up on the Moon having fixed something for her (maybe he stole it and she didn't know he had it? maybe she asked him to fix it so he made it better?  maybe she didn't know it was broken?  maybe he broke it?)

She shows up to the Annex because he asked her to come look at something he found after one of the Salvage operations on Titan (and of course he never mentioned it to anyone because Drifter be like that)

Immaru says some shit to Eris and gets bullied (the possibilities are endless - I support more Immaru bullying in the world) 

Eido asks Eris about something the Drifter once said to her and wants an explanation of what that 'human custom' means (it is of course something Drifter-terrible - or maybe not - perhaps it’s emotionally revealing and he never expected Eido to notice never mind ask about it - you decide!)

Ikora asks Eris to investigate something in a lost sector and Eris brings the Drifter along (or the Drifter finds out Eris is going and shows up uninvited - I love lost sectors - they're such interesting bits of the game and easy to explore for research purposes after you've cleared them out)

Go in game to one of their locations (Annex or the Moon or Athenaeum...) and wander around looking at the details.  Find something intriguing.  Have one of them ask the other what it is and why it's there (why the hell does Eris have Hive eyeballs floating in her bowl in the Athenaeum?  Seriously... what is she even doing with that?)

Sometimes I just go stand beside Drifter in the Annex or Eris on the Moon and listen to their idle diaogue and then go “I wonder what that was all about.  There’s a story in there!” and get inspired.

I will stop now or I'll just keep going on forever.  I would love to read any/all of these.  Please write them.  I may write them too at some point but that’s ok.  There’s no such thing as too much Drifteris.

Request: Velvet spends a lot of time (and, more importantly, energy) playing the straight man to Magilou’s antics. She is, of course, not a man: and as it happens, she may not be entirely straight either.

Bonus: Eleanor finds it equal parts amusing and thrilling to see the fearsome Lord of Calamity lose her cool at Magilou's prodding. But when she sees Velvet pull their teammate into an alley in Hellawes and press her up against the wall by her throat, laughter is the last thing on her mind.

"Father, I can understand why you would look at them and consider them unscrupulous miscreants, but I would recommend against being so reactive next time. It was clear enough to see that they only put on such a display because you provoked them, and I'd encourage you to consider the setting when engaging with troublemakers."

Once again, it was up to Eleanor to smooth things out in the aftermath of their little merry band trying to do something as simple as waiting in the church for the shops to open.

Privately, she thought the way that Velvet and Magilou had handled it had been...vindicating. The pastor had clearly singled them out for Velvet's attire, and Magilou had only tried to come to her rescue, in her own roundabout way.

Could it really be called a roundabout way, if Magilou was never straightforward in the first place?

Maybe Eleanor had admired the way they'd stood up for themselves because it felt like she was inadvertently sharing that umbrella of protection. She'd never really worked out how she felt about romance, but she knew enough that she was not interested in men.

Well. Most men. But she definitely had a leaning of sorts.

She parted ways with the group: Laphicet was blessedly so exhausted that he was asleep at the inn with Rokurou and Eizen to watch him and make sure he ate, so the three of them were none the wiser to the scene that had just unfolded.

I should give those two a talking-to, at least. Our cover will be blown if they keep doing things like that.

Velvet had grimaced and beckoned for Magilou to follow her for a 'chat', so Eleanor suspected they'd be just outside.

She hears Velvet's hushed voice and Magilou's not-so-hushed voice from the alley around back, and her ears perk up to listen as she sidles up against the corner to watch. Not to eavesdrop, but-just to wait and see! Maybe Velvet will do the important parts for her.

"Look. He was being a creep, but that doesn't mean you can just act as you please-! The second you started rubbing up on me I thought his eyes were going to roll right out of their sockets, the way he was ogling you." She's clearly agitated, her arms crossed, her finger tapping the inside of her forearm.

"Ohoho! So sweet of you to worry, but I'm used to being ogled! It's a shame if I'm not! A performer performs, and I performed perfectly. And you played along too, lest you forget! Throwing me across the altar and crawling over me like that until he went blue in the face-my heart nearly popped! Unless..." Magilou tips her head and Eleanor can hear her lilt suddenly drop into another tone entirely, "...did it really rile you up, right then in there? Thinking about doing it in front of a holy man, to spite the clergy?"

Eleanor is suddenly very, very still. She knows deep down that she's hiding herself for a different reason than she was when this started, but she can't will herself to move away.

I shouldn't be watching this.

"No, it did not."

"Aww, then were you worried about little ol' me? Thinking I've no defenses against the male gaze? I was never a naive country girl like you, Vel, I'm used to it."

"And you shouldn't be. Why is it so outlandish of me to want men to not act like animals? Especially around you, you look way too young for them anyway. If anything it's worse that you get them so excited."

"My my, that doesn't bode well for you, then does it, Vel?" Magilou's voice drops, suddenly serious, and if Eleanor didn't know better-bordering on authoritative. "Because I've seen you much more excited to see me than that."

It happens so quickly that Eleanor is frightened her flinch will give away her position-Velvet's claw erupts from its bandages and pins Magilou to the wall by her throat, her feet dangling.

"Keep talking if you want to pretend you don't know what I mean."

Magilou...laughs. It's strained and sputtering through the pressure at her throat, but she's clearly more delighted than afraid.

I should do something. This is getting out of hand-

SPLASH.

A burst of water soaks Velvet's face and she drops a giggling Magilou to the ground.

"Brat." Velvet bites out.

"Oh come on. I've seen you wetter. And you've seen me."

I need to leave-I really shouldn't be hearing-

But Eleanor stays rooted to the spot, ears burning, her body burning even in Hellawes' frigid climate.

"But tell you what. Let's kiss and make up? And then I'll behave until we get back to the inn." Magilou spreads her fingers into a 'v' just under her chin, poking her tongue out between them and bending her body forward with a great flourish. "What do you say, sourheart?"

Eleanor's heart thumps heavy in her chest as Velvet bridges the distance, take Magilou's chin in her own, leans in until there's barely any space between them. Velvet's lips part and Magilou's eyes go half-mast with a certain...earnestness that Eleanor wouldn't have believed unless she'd seen it with her own eyes.

But Velvet stops just shy.

"...Nice try. You're never behaved. And I'd be the fool for believing you could keep a promise like that."

Magilou's eyes flicker with a moment's surprise, but she's back on the other foot in the next breath.

"Oho, but perhaps you're the fool after all, for taking me seriously to begin with!"

...

Eleanor walks back to the inn, realizes that she's a little more alike to Magilou than she ever expected she could be, both for what thought lingers behind and for the fact that she'd never, ever be able to admit aloud-

I opened the dialog if Tav playing as a "good", but if Tav is chaotic, discards to lines that go in the "evil" branch. I am chaotic Tav. If playing as Dark Urge the "goodness" branch is unavailable even if the grove saved. After killing the bard, for sure. I almost restrained myself from posting the entire script of that scene here. Just a script. At the end a bit of my personal thoughts and preferences. though poor English :| The order of the line has been followed.

Astarion: You might be a little naive in the ways of the world, but I see promise in you. Ambition.

Astarion: So I was thinking, what would be the right thing to do when we get to Moonrise Towers? When we come face-to-face with whoever is controlling the parasites in our heads. Player: Seize control of the cult ourselves? Astarion: Yes, exactly! NodeContext: Surprised and hyped that the player got it in one. He didn't think you'd be on board with the idea.

Player: Evil power. I won't do it. Astarion: Power is just a tool, it's people that are good or evil. Astarion: And even they can be a little bit... CinematicNodeContext: Can't quite find the words to convey "even evil people can be a little bit good" so just mimes weighing scales with his hands. NodeContext: And even good or evil people can be a little bit complicated.

Astarion: I'm just saying there's an opportunity here. If we can control the tadpoles, we can keep ourselves safe and liberate the world from this evil. He has two reactions to rejection.

My thoughts.

Ambition — I really love that word.

I love how the proud Prince, wants to take power and dominate the world. The plan: find, murder and... get what I want. He's smart, but his wild-fireworks nature is something. And it just melts me.

I love this conversation about good and evil. The theme of scales.

CAMERON VO AND SCOTT FORRESTER

Warning: I deeply apologize for all the bad quality GIFs you're about to see.

Ok, so I do understand Scott had a thing with Kellet (and they're probably gonna bring up that storyline again 😒), but tbh I'm not really a fan. I'm not big on off-screen romance development and theirs was developed off screen🤷🏾‍♀️ plus honestly I just like seeing Scott and Cam together on my screen Lol 😄 (they're hot 🤭). I'm always glued to the screen when they show up.

Also, Raines and Vo are cute but I'm also not a fan. Sorry 😬

Anyways, the moment these characters were introduced I saw something there. They had an immediate chemistry that set the tone of their future interactions. They butted heads in the beginning. Then he disregarded the advice of her previous FBI superior and kept Vo in the team. In that first episode, I already learned so much about Scott's character and his leadership of the team because of his interactions with Vo. And as the episodes came, we saw more of the depth of their scenes/interactions together and how much similar they actually are.

I definitely harbored (and still do harbor) a desire for them to get together romantically, but it was just me in my shipper heart having my usual shipping delusions. It wasn't until S01E16 that I feel like my shipping of them was validated. I don't care what anyone says, that was a Vo/Forrester ship episode Lol 😄

That episode was a Vo centered episode.

It was an episode where Vo was dragged into a case by an old friend Nick who she later found out to be involved in the very crime they were investigating.

Now, Vo was obviously questioned and had given all the info she could on this guy. But Scott still chose to ask again which ok, it makes sense as he is her boss.

But then he chooses to ask her again. This time, he asks directly if she had a romantic relationship with Nick. Again, I guess since he's her boss he would need every single info on their connection in order to determine if she's compromised. Right? I get it.

Side note: After asking her, he moves closer to her (2nd gif) and then that stare down he gave her (3rd gif)? ooof...that was hot sorry 🔥

Earlier in that episode he was telling Raines that he didn't have to trust Nick because he trusted Vo. But then what did he do again? He's talking to Nick this time and tries to get info on whether or not him and Vo had dated, even after Vo had told him nothing like that happened. Bare in mind that Vo already discussed Nick with him three times. THREE times.

Too much? Just to know if Vo was romantically involved with this dude? If he wanted to know if Vo was compromised with Nick, aren't there other reasons aside romance that she would be. Like maybe she's returning a favor. The funny thing is Vo had actually mentioned earlier that she owed him a favor because he's saved her a few times in the past. I mean, that would also be a good enough reason for Forrester to follow up on if he actually thought she was compromised. If she feels she owes him, she might also feel obligated to cover up for him, right?

I thought this was all so suspicious 🤔. That episode definitely solidified my shipping for them. Also, I'm sorry but the storyline for Vo and Forrester being together will be so much more interesting. I'm not even going to dive into that discussion and the different romantic tropes that could come from that lol.

I must admit I haven't caught up to the latest episodes from season 2, but I do know there's a new character that has joined the team, Damien Powell. He happens to be an old friend of Scott's and also Vo's new love interest. I don't think Scott knows about them hooking up yet but I am very curious to see his reaction to this in season 3. Hoping I would get some sort of concern from his end. But at the very least, I should get a scene with just them two talking about it.

Can't change my mind, these two should be together.

Hey thank you! It's always good to know that at least some out there are enjoying them.

I figured I'd just do the other three to keep them on the same post. We'll start with Damon since that's who you asked about.

Damon, we know from the alternative scene, wants to get Winter pregnant as away to keep her and control her, which is his particular brand of "love" in high school. If he found out that she was pregnant...well, the image that comes to mind is like a cat that ate the canary.

Winter would be furious, I think in either of the timelines but especially in canon. She's too young, she doesn't like Damon extending his control over her like that; she wanted a choice, not to be forever tied to him by accident. Still, if she did keep it, she'd love that baby with everything she had. She'd keep it and protect it from Damon.

The baby would definitely be a source of fighting for them.

If it was a boy (which, looking at Damon's track record...) Gabriel would be interested. Good chance he'll pull a Christiane 2.0 and take him away. If it's a girl, it's the Ashby's problem.

The Ashby's would seriously consider sending Winter away again. I just know her mom would ask if there were still those boarding schools for "girls like her," that took pregnant girls so they didn't disgrace the family. Her father would promptly walI her over to the town doc that performs all the abortions unwanted/accidentally pregnancies for Thunder Bay (but shhhh, that's a secret). If Winter wouldn't go through with an abortion (she'd have to really fight and scream to get her father to relent), she would consider closed adoption. Considering how angry she was, there's a chance she would have gone through with it. But I'm also thinking her love for Damon despite everything would keep her from being a 100% committed, and that small room for doubt would be enough.

Michael

This wouldn't happen to Michael. He wouldn't even touch Rika until she was 18 or close to it. If she did somehow, despite all this plans, become pregnant with his child, that's it. They're getting married and raising that thing together side by side, as faraway from his family as he could get. Her mom too, if she doesn't get sober real quick. Noway is that going to be let around his kid.

For Rika, this is not how she planned it, but she always wanted Michael so maybe this was how it was meant to be. It's just like them to skip past all the nonsense of dating and getting to know each other. They already know they're made for each other, anyway. But she hates the idea that Michael thinks she tricked or "planned" this. She wasn't poking holes in condoms and she resents him for implying it (which he definitely has more than once).

They'd fight, they'd bicker, they'd annoy each other, but overall they'd be content and happy, approaching this new stage of their life with purpose and assurance that the other is going to try and be the best parent they could.

Kai

This also wouldn't happen to Kai, but it's way more likely to happen to him than to Michael. Especially with Banks involved. His brain shut down whenever she appeared in front of him. Honor bound, he would do whatever he could to make it right. He wouldn't love the idea of abortion (hard to tell if he's the type of Catholic that's completely against the idea, or if he's more along the lines of it's not my body though it's my baby, or if he's more like it's not okay for anyone else but this is my emergency so I'll ask for forgiveness (that he doesn't thinks he'll get... kai's weird)). Overall, if the baby is born and he has to tell his parents, he's going to have one giant shadow over his head. Of course he loves the baby. But this is just another way he's disappointed his father. But then Kai will go to college, and get his degree, get the job, get the salary that will provide the very best for his family. No more screwing up for him.

Basically, this would be something he beats himself up over but would not take him down.

There's a really good chance Banks never tells anyone and takes her self to the abortion clinic. Her fear that Gabriel would kick her out because she can't bring another mouth into his house - that was not the deal. Or ended up anything like her mom, chasing after to rich man to take care of a baby neither of them wanted. Not that she would chase after him. It's just the whole situation she'd want to avoid; it hits too close to home. And don't even bring up Damon finding out. I think she'd also be scared to mess the kid up. At seventeen, she doesn't think she's anywhere close to being mother material. Best to save this kid some pain before it understands. The only thing that might stop her is if Kai somehow found out and talked her out of it. But that would have to be one hell of a speech.

why was it deleted. i just didn't like it? it felt kind of gimmicky and out of place compared to my usual writing style. the three options are inspired a conversation between the male lead and his best friend in the movie The F Word/What If starring Daniel Radcliffe and Zoe Kazan. what changed. nothing ft. armin, eren. cw. unedited, fem!reader, explicit language, 600 words.

Please remember that this scene was deleted for a reason and that nothing that happens here occurs in the actual story posted on AO3. This is just fun bonus content for people who are interested in reading more.

context. eren is on the phone with armin in the bathroom.

Eren knows what he should do. He should storm down the hall to your room, pound on the door until you open up, and then sweep you into his arms as he gives you a dramatic declaration of love. After he’s been making fun of you for being so passive with Jean, he feels like a piece of shit now for acting the same way.

His mind is plagued with insecurities. What if you don’t care? What if he’s too late? What if you think he’s a creep?

Eren understands now why you were so afraid to confess your feelings to Jean -- this shit is scary.

So, he’s been brainstorming all night and he’s come up with three options:

He can make a move on you now when you’re sad an emotionally vulnerable about what’s going on with work. He’d be taking advantage of you, yeah… but he’d also be taking care of you. God knows that Jean isn’t going to do it. If he’s lucky, you’ll realize how selfish Jean is and fall in love with Eren, instead. If he’s unlucky, you’ll be furious with him for taking advantage of you and end your friendship entirely. Most likely, you’ll realize that Eren’s manipulating your feelings and you’ll resent him for being too sleazy.

You’ve always gone to Eren for advice, so why would that change now that you have some thing going on with Jean? Inevitably, when Jean fucks something up, Eren knows you’ll come running to him for comfort. The downside is that he has to listen to you whine about Jean. On the upside, Eren could slowly slant his advice to turn you against Jean, poisoning your thoughts about him, and helping you open your eyes to Jean’s inadequacy. But, he’s already tried doing that, and every time you just shut him out. If he keeps this up, and you realize that Eren has feelings for you, you’ll think that he’s being too conniving.

Eren could just… wait. Jean is a deeply flawed person, Eren knows that from being friends with him for almost a decade. Eventually, you’ll realize how shitty Jean is and lose your feelings for him. Or you won’t. And the two of you will fall in love with each other and live a happy life with Eren watching from the outside, quietly pining indefinitely. Pathetic.

“Are you sure what you’re feeling for this girl is love?” Armin questions, pausing to let Eren soak in his question. “Maybe this is just blind infatuation. Do you actually like her or are you just upset that she might prefer Jean?”

“Jean’s a piece of shit.”

“That’s not what I asked,” Armin says sternly. “You’re acting weird and possessive about this girl… I’m not trying to dismiss your feelings, but before you play with someone else’s you need to do some introspection.”

“What do you mean?” Eren groans, rubbing his hand across his face. “I’m telling you I love her -- I’ve never felt this way about anyone before -- isn’t that enough introspection?”

Eren can practically hear Armin thinking through the phone and he knows that whatever Armin is about to say next is his carefully worded version of his grievances. “You haven’t been the most respectful with people’s feelings in the past. If you and this girl end up together and the novelty of falling in love wears off, are you going to go back to the way you were?”

“What do you mean the way I was?”

Armin huffs like it’s obvious, but Eren still waits for a response. “Eren… you’re not a good person sometimes.”

Eren recoils as if he was physically slapped. “What?”

“You’ve done some really bad things to people in the past… said some really awful things… Jean is proof of --”

Acosf got so much missing potential, I don't even know where to start... There are so many things that could have be done better

Nessian:

Where is the chemistry they already had in acowar? Where is the build up they already had? Why start at zero and make it all about s€x at the beginning. This one scene at the beginning where Cassian should bring Nesta to the river house and when Nesta then opens the door he first noticed her skinny appearance but then is stuck with her tatas like excuse me sir but your priorities are wrong right now 🤨. They had their cute, bonding and hot moments but it could be done better, there could be more. I think there is a reason many simping for Nesta × Eris when one dance had more sparkle than nearly half of the book.

Cassian himself:

That something i noticed only at my secound read because Acheron sisters >> bat boys so I focus more on them but yeah what about Cassian?? We learn nothing new about him and now this is a bit fronty but he sometimes gave me Wattpad Bodybuilder/Trainer vibes 😑 like where is our 500 years old Illyrian warrior, the general of the NC?

The plot (what plot?)

Do I have to say much about the pregnancy plot? like *🥲* You have already written a post or rebloggt i don't remember for sure which summarized it well. But you know what bothers me it could have been good. It was maybe a little fast because feyre has first said in acomaf she wanted to take her time but then came acofas where we have seen her wish for children (we are not talking about Rhys breeding kink💀😂). But why the fish was Feyre's pragnancy in Nessian pov?? I really like Feysand bonus chapter. Rhys crying from joy, they thinking about names and so going on. Cute moments between a couple becoming parents. Why make the pregnancy about Nesta? Why not showing us the joy and sorrow from Feysand's pov?

The blood rite was not better, ngl it was nice to read but glad that so many agree that it was unrealistic that they won. Would they have suvived, sure but win? No. The valkyries won against Illyrian who trained since childhood for the blood rite. Like okay how unrealistic you want to be?

The rest of the plot was basically training and fu€king so yeah 🤷‍♀️. The only aspect i found kinda interesting was the whole plot about the troves.

Illyrian and the illyrian culture:

Two words: MISSED POTENTIAL. (and your post which is the reason i am writing this essay 😂💃) It is not like that we got a love interest who is Illyrian himself. Who suffered under the Illyrian but still wants to reform them, didn't give the hope up on them. Like we didn't get a woman as a friend of the MC who suffered under the Illyrian, who got her wings cut and was degrationed by them. Emerie my love don't get enough resignation. Like we didn't had Nesta training with the priestesses, why limit it only to them why not involve Illyrian women, why only train at HoW? Even why it was just the valkyries they could have made a statement while training in front of the Illyrian woman similar as Nesta did it at the libary to encourage the priestesses (and then they are not the Griel stans saying Az and G will reform the Illyrian like 😭 You know Az who hates the Illyrian and G who isn't quiet ready yet to leave the libary *me taking a breath* )

Nesta's healing jounary:

It was good but again it could have been better. Really i cried at the scene with Nesta and Cass at the lake, where she had her breakdown but there are some points i didn't quiet get. This are just my reading experiences but at the end it was not like she got to control her inner anger but it kind of just vanished like 20 years of rage just puff. Her healing jounary was at some points a bit fast in my eyes but to be fair Feyre had 3 books and Nesta only one.

The relationship between the Acheron sisters:

This is one point that makes me sad but it was disappointing how little bonding time between the sisters we got. Of course Nesta's monologe while saving Feyre was heartbreaking sweet and the end scene where Nesta is running towards her sisters with Nyx sleeping in Elain’s arms is lovely.(Both are one of my favourite scenes) But I wanted more. Where was the dialoge between the sisters? Where was the convertation why Nesta and Elain didn't help Feyre in the first book? Why was Nesta so nasty fowards Feyre?

And lean on that the the friendship between the Valkyries:

I really like their friendship, they all helped each other to heal.

But there's one little thing bothering me and i completly understand if someone disagree on that. This is again my reading experience. The Acheron sisters have a communication problem. I like the friendship between the three but it feels a bit like Emerie and Gwyn are replacement for Feyre and Elain. But to be fair i have kinda the same feeling when it comes to Feyre and the IC. Their found familes are somewhere replacements for their sisters because sisters are not able to talk slove their issues 🙈

(and now also your point that Nessian wouldn't work in canon. They are a modern AU couple and make no sense in canon. 😂🥲 But i still love them 😌)

I am sorry i jnow this was long but i have no one to talk about acotar in my friendgroup, lonely bookwurm here ☕️ plus in the acotar-fandom you need be careful where you criticise Acosf for many is this book the secound bible 💀😂.

The complete decimation of Cassian as a character, the lack of any meaningful movement and change in the sisters' relationships, everyone communicates terribly, Rhys is an asshole, the IC are failures in just about everything, Amren should've been dead, the 'it's just sex' thing is dumb, NO ONE will ever convince me that Nesta is the kind of person who'd use sex as a coping mechanism.

Honestly, my expectation of a good Elain book, of Elain's character not being foolishly destroyed, is almost at zero. Unfortunately, I expect it to be horrible. Which is sad. Because SJM can write good books.

Thanks! These are fun! I've done 2 for TDATS and 1 for Cold Iron so far today, so Cold Iron is getting another one. Plus, these are easiest to answer for Shakatra.

🌱 SEEDLING - They had a rough childhood and don't generally like to think about it, but their most vivid memory is actually a positive one. When they were 6 years old they were climbing unsupervised on a rainy construction zone, as you do, and predictably fell because they're a changeling not a god. They definitely would have died, but they were saved by a handful of pixies with their magic. The goal, of course, was to ask the child's name and then essentially control them, but when they answered with the name they had been given it had no effect, which was how they discovered they really had no name. The pixies were so awed by someone without a true name (they hid it well when they got one later) that the roles reversed and they basically became Shaka's minions.

*bonus fun fact: the head pixie is named Bobette purely because my dad has an old joke where I would start telling him about a story and he would guess everyone's name was Bobette, so I played a trick on him by actually being able to answer, yes that is her name. It wouldn't be as funny if I didn't keep it in, so she's staying Bobette.

🪤 MOUSE TRAP - The most obvious answer is anytime someone they love is threatened. I've been daydreaming (but not writing, of course) this one scene where Shaka's friend/maybe love interest I haven't decided gets taken because by the Fae because she was being kind of a dumbass--separate story--and when no subtle plan works, they dress up and burst in, having retired and vanished from this world, with their old fighting clothes and elaborate dagger and kick all the Faerie ass. It's very dramatic. That said, they also have a habit of throwing themself into danger when they don't need to because they get a thrill out of the risk.

🌪️ TORNADO - So you would think it was either them being enby instead of a girl or them being literally 107 instead of 17. But if anything, I think the deepest change was them being more self-aware of their self-hating behavior and the story properly addressing it. Originally, the story was about strength and magic and friendship with some romance thrown in. It's still about all those things, but initially they hated themself because I hated myself, and I've grown enough since then to make it something they struggle with rather than an inherent part of them.

re the mountain hunt

i don't know if you know the fic lynchpin (it's a time travel fix-it) but it had a very interesting take/spin on jgy's move to bring out the prisoners for the archery competition.

"It could be a power play, to show the Jin were so powerful they could be publicly terrible with no consequences, except by his own admission this had been Jin Guangyao's idea and he didn't do that kind of loud, pointless display.

Maybe it wasn't to make the Jin look good.

Maybe it was to make them look bad. Maybe he was flaunting the atrocities the Jin were committing because he couldn't do something about it but he thought that someone should. Lan Xichen, for all that he was a formidable warrior, was gentle too. He loved Jin Guangyao, and if he'd thought Jin Guangyao was the kind of person to keep war prisoners as slaves and then brag about it, he wouldn't love him. But he had. Probably he does. Which means that whatever is happening, it can't be that.

Lan Xichen had looked away just now as if he were ashamed. Possibly because Jin Guangyao is asking for his help, is asking him to do something about this, and he doesn't think he can."

Obviously this is from an AU so i'm not trying to say that this is what happened, but it's such an interesting scenario to contemplate bc you know what? jgy IS not the kind of person for pointless displays like this. he's much more subtle. i mean there's always the possibility that jgs told him to say it was his own idea to avoid backlash in case it came but still. fun

I'll begin with a possibly silly question, which is: does it ever state that it was his idea? In the subtitles, JGY steadfastly uses "we" when addressing the crowd (ex: "we have designed a special activity to delight our guests"). Which makes sense regardless of who planned what; JGY's acting as the Jin clan's spokesperson, and the ambiguity of "we" lets JGS avoid the blame for failures while taking credit for successes. The only time in that episode that I remember JGY being singled out as individually responsible by others or himself is when he's getting castigated for WWX catching too many monsters.

That said, I agree that LOUD OBVIOUS CRUELTY FLEXES aren't really JGY's way of doing business! Morality aside, he's more politically savvy than that. The overwhelming reaction to the prisoners being led out is one of shock and concern--which I have my own issues with, narratively speaking (because BOY are they all complacent in practice!!), but in the moment it means that this was a bridge too far, the CQL equivalent of Octavian Augustus marching Cleopatra and Antony's children through the streets in chains as part of his triumph parade. Furthermore, since it's ostensibly inviting all the participants to fire on the captives, it doesn't function as a show of strength either. At best, it's forcing them to be complicit in crimes that, whether due to support or ignorance, they weren't opposing in the first place. It's hamfisted in a way that reeks of JGS and his whole "if I'm pushy enough people will do it" MO. JGY as sect leader wouldn't play that way.

My personal reading for JGY's involvement here--what he'd get out of it from a utilitarian standpoint--is that the display is SO EGREGIOUS that it erases all doubts about his true loyalty during Sunshot. NMJ nearly chopped him in half over being WRH's lackey, after all, and NMJ can't possibly be the only one suspecting JGY of opportunism. Facilitating that POW archery contest show everyone that he super duper doesn't have any Wen sympathies whatsover. (WWX being the one to make a spectacle of himself at the contest and then immediately piss everyone off right before he busts the Wen out of prison is an added bonus.)

For all that the whole thing is his fault to some degree, JGY actually isn't one I get frustrated with in that scene, because the show undoubtedly means us to think that he and this action are Bad. He threw a shitty evil party in tandem with his shitty evil dad. That's it. I feel that we are not meant to have the same reaction to, say, JZX (who AT BEST is so clueless he had no idea what was happening at HIS OWN FAMILY'S PARTY and at worst knew and went "woohoo! showoff time!") or JYL (who's just so proud of her crush and her shidi doing cool tricks! no lingering concerns about the human targets!), or LXC (so gentle! so compassionate! so silent this whole scene!) or many of the other onlookers... which is really too bad, because that's absolutely the kind of thing that makes for fun complexity.

Which I guess is what fic like the one you referenced is for--to explore those possible complexities, for good or for ill!

Am I the only one that's pissed at Rhysand for telling Azriel to stay away from Elaine? I get that he's probably not wanting him to mess up things with Lucien because of the mate bond or whatever but usually if that was going to happen Sarah would of had them fall in love first before they find out they're mates it's what usually happens in her books even in CC.

I mean, what you feel is valid. And idk if other Elriels felt the same way (maybe some are) but honestly anon, even tho Rhysand ordered Azriel to stay away from Elain, I kind of like it since he gave us the forbidden romance lmao. However, there are actually three reasons why I think Rhys did that:

First: (I'm basing this on SJM's way of writing) Maybe SJM wrote it there for the possible conflict in acotar5 and we know she has this "staying away" pattern for her endgame couples. Rhysand avoided Feyre for 3mos, Cassian avoided Nesta for almost a year and now Azriel avoided Elain for months. If Rhysand didn't ordered Az to leave Elain alone, we will never have this one (of the many) endgame pattern in acotar series.

Second: (s/o to @tessacursebreaker for being kind and confirming about the mate behavior) so when it comes to mating bonds, it is usually males who have a harder time dealing with it. If rejected, it can drive them into madness. Plus, they have this feeling of "entitlement" to their mate and they could invoke a blood duel (https://acourtofthornsandroses.fandom.com/wiki/Mate). So, despite Elain and L*cien not wanting the bond, it'll be so much harder than what we think esp for L*cien. Rhysand considered the possibility that if rejecting L*cien would drive him mad or a possible duel (or Az could kill the poor man), this will taint the alliance, which leads us to the third reason

Third: It is more of the politics and peace between courts, we know there's still another battle/war coming, and breaking of alliance would be another weakness so Rhys, as a High Lord, have to prioritize his court and people:

You see, Rhys is afraid to make one wrong move against L*cien and is quite willing to use Elain. They did it once when Feyre went back on the Spring Court. They don't trust L*cien enough, so to protect the NC they have to make Elain as a pawn:

In the Bonus Chapter, it seems like Rhysand has no choice but to use any possible means (including Elain), why? Because L*cien have the knowledge/information regarding the NC. He cannot risk it especially now that everything between L*cien and the IC is not going on the right direction :

They have to play safe for now. Rhys couldn't risk his court. So despite every choices Rhys made (whether we think is wrong or right) High Lord acts according to what he thinks is the best for the court.

I think this what makes acotar 5 much more interesting, there's so many things at risk. There's still unresolved problems. And there's Elain's CHOICE. There'll be confrontations in IC, possible breaking of alliance. What Rhysand do is not entirely right (but who the hell does when politics and powers are being discussed) but that one "stay away from her" scene is a great set up for the next book. Especially for Elriel's forbidden romance.

ps: Regarding the mating bond between El*cien, i actually love your point that sjm has this pattern of falling in love first before the bond takes place. And it's not a coincidence that she hinted about: choice, two mates, true mates. And who falls in love first before "sensing" the bond? (There's actually a lot of theories regarding Elriel as true mates so this is still another pattern for us, ig)

But all in all anon, what you feel is valid. We have different point of view regarding on Rhysand's decisions. Hope sjm would clear everything in acotar 5!
