Maybe an unpopular opinion…

But Steroline was better than Stelena.

And Bamon was better than Delena.

SORRY. SORRY. But it just was.

Stefan and Damon just had better chemistry and storyline with Caroline and Bonnie than they did with Elena. Don’t get me wrong, Delena had undeniable chemistry but that lasted only for the first three seasons. Once they got together, that chemistry kind of died down. And it makes me realize that the majority of their chemistry stemmed from the trope: “will they, won’t they”, or “forbidden lovers”. They knew they shouldn’t be together or even attracted together because of Stefan and it’s complicated, and because of that fact, it made their scenes every more angsty and hotter. But when they did get together, it’s like…. eh.

Where as Bonnie and Damon, they had chemistry from the jump, I argue. And even when they got “together” aka being best friends, they STILL had that intense chemistry and angst that was needed. And don’t get me started on how Damon’s original promise of protecting the Bennet bloodline?? And how Bonnie hated his guts and Damon was terribly annoyed by her?? Is that not a set up for a enemies to lover orrrr???

And Steroline just felt sweeter. Like eating dutch apple pie. It was a classic friends to lovers. And it has one of my favorite pairings, “the erratic girlfriend x calm, collected boyfriend”. And I just love how Caroline was Stefan’s vampire “sponsor”, and then how Stefan was technically Caroline’s first vampire friend, and how he helped her with her transition. It’s just fucking sweet. And I firmly believe that Caroline was in love with Stefan from the jump. Maybe not in love, but she definitely loved him, and that’s why she was always so judgemental and adament towards Elena about picking Stefan, because it’s what she would’ve—and wanted to—done.

I couldn't agree more with what you said "Actually, my main criticism of season 3 is the lack of Steroline screen time. Its absence is particularly noticeable when you binge-watch the show... " .In fact,I noticed that once Tyler left town and Caroline's dad died,she practically had no storyline except being Klaus's bait and an object of pursuit for him. As a Caroline fan and someone who loathed both the Mikealsons and that pathetic triangle,it was quite tough to get through the second half of the season.

I remember Julie tweeting something along the lines of how what we had seen of Caroline and Stefan's friendship was simply a tip of the iceberg and that, hopefully, there was more to come.This was BEFORE s3 had even begun.I wonder if they changed their minds halfway & gave the screen time to KC instead because they were clearly struggling with what to do with her.One episode she was dancing with klaus,next episode she was helping Bonnie's mom and then, in the next, she was distracting Klaus.

As for Stefan,on one hand ,he was struggling with his bloodlust issues and on the other hand, his relation with his brother & Enoby was going downhill.Honestly,I don't mind Defan as long as they are not annoying me with their manpain but I feel like this was the perfect opportunity for TVD to explore his friendship with Caroline more especially because it would have helped her see Stefan at a stage where he wasn't his best self and that would have flowed well with when he voluntarily asked her to be his sobre-sponsor in s4.

Huh. You’re right. Caroline doesn’t have much of a storyline in the second half of season 3. I don’t know if I forgot about that or if I didn’t notice that absence because Stefan and Klaus’s antagonism drives so much of the plot in season 3. Your reasoning regarding Klaroline makes sense though: turn Caroline into a love interest to give her something to do. I always thought the point Klaroline was to humanize Klaus the same way Stefarine humanized Katherine. But now that I think about it both of us might be right about Klaroline in season 3: give Caroline a conflict/weave her into the story and humanize Klaus.

As for Stefan, on one hand ,he was struggling with his bloodlust issues and on the other hand, his relation with his brother & Enoby was going downhill. I like Defan, but I didn’t like how the love Defan/Elena love triangle dragged on. By season 4 I was sick of it. Looking back, I think Stefan nearly driving Elena off the bridge should have been the end of it Stelena because everything that happens afterward just feels like they were postponing the inevitable (i.e. Delena). I’d like it if the writers focused on developing Stefan and Caroline’s friendship in season 3.

Coffee and kisses

Caroline spins the spoon around in her cup of coffee as she creates an intricate design with the excess coffee foam. Her mind was too clouded with his scent, hands, lips and voice.

It was starting to become a serious problem.

"Care bear, thought i'd find you here" Damon's voice fills up the bar as he pulls up a chair for himself, "just like my brother, drinking yourself into oblivion"

"it's just coffee" she deadpans, not even surprised by his presense.

"in a bar" Damon says and she can't help but agree on her pathetic situation. She had fully entered the bar to get blind drunk but as she entered she felt a certain sense of control slip from her fingers and as a movement to regain her prior self, she decided to practice some own control by drinking coffee instead of her usual margarita or whiskey.

"Damon what do you want?" She asks rather rudely, and he leans in conspiratively.

"i think its about time you pull yourself together and" He leans in closer for dramatic effect, "and bang my dearest brother again"

She rolls her eyes, trying to hide the slight pink tinge on her cheeks. Damon was never going to change. "I don't need advice from you, especially considering you and elena are still fighting"

"We're not fighting" He says offhandedly, "She's just being stubborn"

"You're impossible"

"Stefan's not though"

"Oh yes he is" She feigns a laugh, and Damon orders a drink for himself. "He's more impossible than you! and that says something"

Damon opens his mouth to retort back but she can't pay attention any longer as she notices his scent and the sound of his footsteps as he walks in, her head perks up and turn towards the entrance of the bar and there he is. unluckily, elena also trails behind him with a scowl on her pretty face.

It doesn't take him long to notice her and within minutes, the both of them make their way over to the duo. Damon doesn't bother to look up till elena pulls up a seat next to him, the scowl on her face seemingly etched there permenately.

It takes stefan a minute longer as he hovers near her, but after giving up his hesitation, he sits next to her.

she has never wanted to pass away more.

It was a long time coming anyways, the tension between the two of them were palable as well as the fact that the both of them seemed to be single for the longest time and were sexually frustrated.

But instead of talking about it maturely she had given him a lame excuse and had deserted him and he certainly made no efforts to stop her.

So now came the question of what were they? friends? she couldn't forget the night they spent. lovers? there was always something stopping them.

"I'm sorry" Elena's muffled voice alerts Caroline of her surrondings. Elena and Damon had obviously made up from their small riff and now Damon had thrown her wink before the both of them excused themselves for a bathroom break.

leaving the both of them alone, perfect. "Stefan"

"caroline" he counters, and he seems relieved that she's finally talking to him again. "Look it's your call"

"What's that even supposed to mean?" She asks with ridicule in her voice.

"I mean on how we are going to react about last night" He whispers the last part and suddenly she feels the control slipping out of her fingers once again. "we can go back to being friends if thats what you want, i mean i can put last night away in my brain. trust me, i've done it before."

He tilts his chair so he's facing her and after a minute's hesitation, he wraps his hand around hers, "Your the only real thing left for me in this world, and i don't care what the both of us are termed to each other but i just need you in my life, caroline"

A small gasp leaves her mouth and her eyes soften, theres panic coursing through her veins regarding how she was going to answer and if he even had feelings for her even after this confession of his. after all, he was insanely confusing.

"What about our feelings?" She asks, terrified of his answer. She can tell he's conflicted, almost like he wants to say something but is terrified of an opposite reaction.

"Look my feelings won't stop anything from-

she doesn't let him finish since a moment later, she presses her lips against his firmly. He cups her cheeks and pulls her in closer, craving the sweet taste of her lips.

she pulls them apart before things get too heated and at the look on his face she can tell that they both wanted the same thing.

There's a michevious glint in her eyes and he lets her have this victory as he's too indulged in this new found happiness that he's wanted for the longest time.

he had found his home.

"So.." She begins as they can see Damon and Elena in their peripheral vision, "Aren't you gonna get anything to drink?"

"I'm not exactly thirsting for any bever-

"How about coffee?" she offers with a wide smile on her face and he soon realizes that he can't seem to refuse anything she asks of him.

No, no wait a minute. The more I think about Stefan and Caroline… the more I like them.

They both even each other out and when you think about how they really had that friends to lovers pipeline is so nice. Like he was really there for her when she became a vampire, and in return she was there for him with his blood addiction. Idk, I think their personalities balance together. And in return, I think I tolerate Caroline a lot more when she’s with Stefan, vice versa.

"Come on you have to get up" Stefan says sitting on your bed beside where your laying.

"Go away it's too early for this shit" you mumbled into your pillow.

Stefan sighed and took the blanket off of you, solving the mystery of where one of his favorite sweaters went, you're wearing it.

"Come on its either the easy way or the hard way" He said knowing full well you can hear him.

You didn't respond and he reached over to you and pulled your body into his lap. "The hard way it is then."

He stood up carrying you and went downstairs where Damon was sitting. By the time he got there, you were almost fully dozed off again if it wasn't for Damon throwing a pillow at your face to wake you up again. You just responded by holding up a middle finger at your older brother and then snuggling into your other older brother, going back into the comfortable position you were in before.

"You realize you do have to change before we leave the house, right?" Damon raised an eyebrow while smirking.

"Who said I was leaving?" You groaned, not wanting to leave and get out of your comfy clothes.

"We are. Everyone is meeting at Elena's house, we need to talk about the problem on our hands" Stefan says, putting you down on the armchair next to a stack of books that needed to be put back, on the ground.

"Whyyyy, so what? there's another doppelganger, big whoopty-doo" You rolled your eyes, actually not minding Silas because he was entertaining at least.

"Too bad, you're going" Damon said, putting his drink down.

You begrudgingly walk up the steps to Elena's house. You still have Stefan's sweater on, only changing from your sleep pants to dark wash, flared jeans.

When you walked in, you immediaetly make you're way down the hallway and to the left where Jeremy is playing video games. You sat down next to him after you grabbed a controller from the coffee table.

The two of you quickly immersed into the shooting game, completely forgetting the point of the whole friend group meet-up.

"Where are Jeremy and Y/n?" Caroline asked, looking around the room, not seeing the two sixteen year olds (you, biologically). "Playing video games in the next room" Elena sighed. She tried to get you guys to stop, but failed and walked away, not in the mood to fight with two moody teenagers who both don't want to socialize except with each other for some reason.

"Then I'll be right back" Caroline said.

She walked down the hall and over to the both of you. She stood in front of the tv, but before either of you could say anything, she grabbed both your guys' left ears.

She pulled you guys by your ears to the living room. "Hey!" you both exclaimed at the same time, not happy about being pulled away from your secluded area.

The next three hours are the most boring and long hours both you and Jeremy have ever had to endure. Well, before you fell asleep on top of each other and no one noticed after those couple of hours.
