1. Who said “I love you” first?

Brook, in a very teenager-overanalyzing-things way. They realized it abruptly in the middle of a conversation they were having with Casca about something they absolutely cannot remember now* and proceeded to bluescreen for a solid thirty seconds--during which they were doing way too much thinking about secrets and truth and what you do with that in Relationships (TM)**. After said thirty seconds (which involved Casca asking them various versions of "are you okay"), they did indeed just basically blurt it out xD

(*It was a conversation about the best way to get Casca's whetstone back from their primus.)

(**Downsides to following Kormir and being a teenage charr trying very hard to make their own path--you might overthink stuff like this! Though immense props to them for the fact that their overthinking took a solid thirty seconds and that was it.)

Soooo I just went looking for someone else doing the Motivation Experiment and you seem to be the only active person except Zac... I like your rule of which WIP to write for! My question is for SCAL-- why 13? In a meta sense, that is. Why did you have the pivotal age for Near be 13?

Hi hi! Thanks! I thought it would be a smart way to keep myself from getting burnout from only working on one WIP the entire time. (Never mind the fact that I rarely answer asks anyway because I keep forgetting, but shhhhh.) Also thanks for the ask!

At first, I chose 13 because, well, a lot of people consider it an unlucky number. So one of the worst things in Near's life happening on his 13th birthday just made sense.

When I started worldbuilding I decided I also wanted a 'pre-adult' sort of period, kind of like our teens. And when thinking about it, I thought 13 would be a pretty good number. You're young, but not too young. It's the kind of age where you start to grow into yourself - at least, from what I've noticed.

That tied together to make 13 the perfect timing, because Near becoming a 'pre-adult' would also be the perfect time for his mother to tell him that they're actually Hallows. You wouldn't tell it to a child, but you also don't want to wait until someone is an adult.

And so in one life she was killed right on the day she wanted to tell him, and in the other life, she got to tell him. Which really makes his 13th birthday something for him.

For this ask I wrote 128 words for SCAL, putting my motivation experiment total at 776 words.

Ha, I saw your "struggling to write, maybe asks will help" post and went "if this was the person with the motivation experiment, asks would make them write" and then I went "is it that person...?" and it turns out you are! Mwahaha. So here you go (stolen from a tag game I enjoyed): describe your WIP(s) like a helpless bookstore customer who only vaguely remembers them. (e.g. "It's the one where they're trying to...")

Haha, that's so funny and made me smile reading your train of thought after seeing my tags about needing motivation. Guess I'm making a name for myself if you were able to recognize the experiment 😅 thank you for stopping by!

As for your question, I absolutely adore it. Very fun activity. If a bookstore customer was looking for a copy of Paragon, I think they would sound a little like this:

"Yeah, it's the one where they have element powers and the characters are like fighting a war..... No, it's not Avatar: The Last Airbender, there's more than four elements, I think.... And there's cool weapons involved, too. I don't remember their names, but the leader has fire and there's two sisters who like tragically lost their parents- oh! And it's gay..... Yeah, that's it! We found it! :)"

I really went for it haha.

Ahh actually meant to reblog the ask game with my writing blog @bluejay-in-write but thank you so much for the ask!! ☺️ This is from a prompt I had gotten and I still have a decent amount of editing to do before I post the whole thing but I hope you enjoy 😄

🌲Pine Tree: share a snippet that shows a character being strong (whether that’s physically, mentally, emotionally, etc.)

“I told you not to underestimate me! I'll defeat you right here and right now!” The girl shot back, leaping into action as she swung her sword in unnecessary motions; stalking towards the throne on which he sat.

“If you can, that is,” The Villain replied, obviously goading her on. Although, he doubted she had the clarity of mind to recognize it in the moment.

She snarled once more before she leapt up onto the dais and sliced her sword down in a straight trajectory towards his neck. The Villain did not make any motion to stop her. He would do nothing to hurt this child and if she knew what he suspected she did, he believed that she would do nothing to harm him as well.

He was right.

The sword stopped a centimeter from his throat. The girl was even better with the sword than he expected. Although moved by her heaving chest and heavy breathing it edged forward and grazed him slightly, causing him to hiss under his breath.

“Why didn't you stop me?” The girl demanded, as she pulled the sword back to her side in a precise motion. Her eyes were glued to the small cut she had made on his neck where a drop of blood was building at the surface.

“As I said before you are a child,” The Villain began, pausing to put his hand up when the girl opened her mouth to argue. Thankfully she kept silent and let him continue.

Holly can never sit still. She loves to move, she loves dancing, but she also likes exercising, and she's pretty good at it. When Victor teaches the Nihidealists the basics of fencing, she's the one who picks it up the quickest.

No one knows anything about Holly's family. She doesn't talk about them and she doesn't seem to be spending much, if any, time at home, so they're probably not in the picture, but that's all anyone can say.

Holly sometimes gets multiple new crushes a day. She can fall in love with someone's vibes almost immediately, and she's rarely ever wrong about her impression. It's entirely intuitive, but she's actually a pretty good judge of character.

She loves to gossip and speculate about other people's love lives, too. She's one of the first people to suspect there might be something more between Victor and Alistair. She doesn't meddle, but she watches very curiously.

This was fun!! Haven't thought much about Holly in a while so thank you for this!!

Okay soo the first one is easy. Hari would be my lab partner, because he’s the best at science out of the three, I believe. 

I’d be stuck in an elevator with Margot for ten hours, and while that might be fun, or might not be...

...it’s nothing compared to what it would be like to have her as my trainer at McDonalds. So Dean gets that job.

WSF hurt-comfort/angst prompts: 7!

Sorry, this took longer than I meant it to! I did get something, so here goes! I may have leaned a little more towards the angst than the hurt/comfort, so I hope that’s okay! I’m going to put this under a Read More to keep things small!

7. “I didn’t mean to make you worry. I was just…trying to help.”

Where is she? She was scared of the dark; she wouldn’t go outside, would she? Not with the moon covered, not with the chance of owls, not...

Rhianwyn caught herself before she truly began to panic. Gwendolyn was a bit of a baby, getting scared of her own shadow, but it wasn’t as if she would get lost. Not within their mother’s barrier, which kept them in as much as it kept other out.

But she did manage to slip through it before. The whisper was there, not quite in her mind, not quite her own thought. It was just... there. She’s more than what she appears.

Rhianwyn shook her head, biting her lip hard. If she didn’t find Gwendolyn before their parents woke up...

Their mother would just leave her behind.

“Gwendolyn!” Rhianwyn hissed out the doorway, hesitating to go outside herself. “Gwen-”

Halfway through the call, her sister appeared from the side... as if from nowhere. Like a spirit, a shadow that came to life without being noticed. “Rhia?”

Rhianwyn grabbed her sister, pulling her into the house and a tight hug. “What were you thinking? It’s almost sunrise; if you didn’t get back before Mother woke up-”

“I’m sorry.” The apology was quiet, but firm in a way Gwendolyn wasn’t these days. Holding up a bundle of lavender, clumsily tied with a ribbon (and Rhianwyn groaned inwardly, seeing the mess Gwendolyn had made of her hair in the meantime), Gwendolyn bit her lip. “I saw... I mean, I heard... I didn’t mean to make you worry. I was just... trying to help. The smell always helped you sleep back home...”

Her words trailed off as her confidence fell, eyes fixated on the floor as Gwendolyn waited for a lecture. A scolding about how they were on the run, and it wasn’t safe, and if she had been found, they were all in danger.

Rhianwyn sighed, seeing the deflation and had to force herself to stand tall. Things could only get worse before they could get better, and one of them had to carry that weight.

And it would not be her younger sister. She would not allow it.

“It’s fine. Just don’t do it again.” Rhianwyn absently started plucking leaves from Gwendolyn’s hair, keeping her voice steady. “Just... stay close, alright? We’ll figure this out, and then sleeping will be easy, even for me. But... thanks.”

The look of Gwendolyn’s smile -the relief and joy in her eyes- was one that would haunt Rhianwyn for years... but it was also the one that had set her path in stone.

Nothing would hurt her sister. Nothing. Even if she had to turn into a demon, become a monster that everyone would fear...

She would make sure that smile was protected to the very end.

Pros and cons of dating Will?

Pros of dating Will:

Very honest with his feelings, however embarrassed hemight get about them. Will flatly tell you he likes you.

Will constantly make sure you’re taking care ofyourself properly, and is willing to step in if you aren’t

Observant. Will pick up on things like your feelingstowards either people or things pretty quickly.

He’s just generally very sweet. Has a lot of love togive.

Doesn’t seek out physical affection but is always 100%down to receive it

Efficient. If you need something done, he’ll figureout a way to do it.

Cons of dating Will:

Literally cannot handle sexual tension, and if he can’tresolve it he will probably just avoid you tbh

Will often take more on his plate than he can reallymanage, resulting in him being busy and a little irritable.

Can be irritable in general, honestly, but it’s mostlybecause he’s stressed.

Him trying to look after you can get a littleoverwhelming, and he’ll probably get confused or annoyed if you reactnegatively to it. Wants you to prioritise health over basically everything,which isn’t always feasible.

Not sure if this is a con, but will prioritise thesafety of the people he cares about over doing the right thing every time,without hesitation.

47.  Best way to procrastinate

I wish I did this more often, but the best way would probably to do productive things? Procrastinate by cleaning your room, doing the laundry, that sort of thing. But tbh my procrastination phases tend to be right when I’m supposed to be starting - I’ll sit down like, “ok starting from now I’m gonna write”, and since I’m only just starting, I’ll convince myself that I’ll “only watch one video” or “only spend 5 minutes on tumblr”… which is bullshit obviously. xD

This might be a Scripty Saturday question? It's definitely not a consult. The question is: In your answer to the bloody cough question, you referenced "the most estoteric medical show ever written" as if you had a particular show in mind. If so, what was it?

Wow, this is going back. 

I was referring to House, MD. The show that looks at medicine, goes, “Gimme the weird stuff,” and runs with it. 

It’s interesting. Before I started watching House, I thought all medical shows were dramas. That they were soap operas. 

But House isn’t a soap opera. It’s a detective series. The brilliant but crotchety House (a type of Holme, who just happens to live in Apartment B in house 221 on an unnamed street), who’s got a good, smart, doctor bestfriend-8cum-sidekick-cum-only-person-who-can-stand-him named Watson Wilson... 

House is an esoteric medical show because it’s about catching a villain (disease) at the end of the mystery plot, before time runs out (the patient dies). Because of that, the plots have to challenge even the brilliant mind of Holmes House. 

ER didn’t need mystery diseases, though I’m sure it had plenty, because it was at its heart a soap opera -- the show is driven by the interaction between the other characters. 

Scrubs didn’t need them because it is, at its heart, a sitcom. 

Grey’s Anatomy didn’t need them because the characters are too busy banging in closets and someone’s sister is sick this week and ERMERGERD MCSTEAMBOAT WILLIE TOOT TOOT. Also they cut a bitch some bitches. 

I’m going to have to do an actual post on the genre of medical fiction someday.

Fluffy OTP question 6, please! Also, is the one cooking in that scenario the one who usually/always cooks? And what is likely being cooked?

Thanks for the ask! 

I think I’ll answer this q for Eli and Dean again I think (mostly because the other ships that immediately come to mind aren’t exactly cooking experts).

Dean is more likely to do the cooking because living with just him and his dad for a few years has led to them working as a team with most of the domestics, while Eli’s mother does a lot of the cooking in his house.

As for what they cook, Eli is more into baking (his auntie runs a bakery). Being Japanese American, Dean’s well-versed in a lot of the traditional dishes his father has taught him to make, but likes to cook pretty much everything since he just enjoys the process.
