“Lift me up a little higher!” Tony says and then braces his foot on top of Bucky’s head, his arms stretched straight up as he reaches for the top of the chain link fence.

“I don’t understand why I can’t just break the lock on the gate,” Bucky grumbles, but adjusts his grip on the bottom of Tony’s other foot and tries to hitch him up a little higher.

“Because that’s how people notice, and why we can’t go back to the old graveyard,” Tony reminds him and Bucky can practically hear him rolling his eyes.

Bucky continues grumbling under his breath but does his best to steadily lift Tony up higher, and then sputters when Tony’s foot slips off his head and skitters down his face. “Watch it,” he snaps, jerking his head back and almost dropping Tony, “you nearly took my damn nose off.”

“I can just sew you on a new nose,” Tony says dismissively, and when Bucky jostles him hard he lets out a squeak and flails his hands out to grab for the fence again.

“But I like this nose, it’s mine,” Bucky says, glaring up at him, then pointedly taps the fingers of his left hand against Tony’s calf where it’s holding him steady as he adds, “I’m still not totally used to this new arm you slapped on me.”

“You’re such a baby,” Tony says with a laugh, “and I still say that you should have let me go with something bigger-”

“I don’t want to be lopsided-”

"Well maybe with a stronger arm you could actually get me over this fence sometime this year- hofuck-"

The shriek Tony lets out as Bucky all but throws him over the top of the fence is incredibly satisfying, as is the continued swearing and loud thump as he hits the ground. Sure, Bucky is probably going to be the one scrubbing mud out of Tony’s clothes, but it's totally worth it for the fact that Tony's face is also covered in mud when he lifts it to fix Bucky with a glare.

"You did that on purpose, you miserable undead bastard," Tony accuses, glaring harder, but it's really ruined by the twigs and dead leaves clinging to his face.

"Shh, stop being so loud," Bucky says, not even trying to fight down his wide smirk, "or you're gonna get us caught."

"If we get caught, I'm blaming you," Tony mutters as he pushes himself upright and starts wiping at his face, "and then I'm turning you back into a corpse."

"Promises, promises."

Tony huffs out a reluctant laugh as he pushes himself to his feet and then says "You are my worst reanimated assistant."

"Yeah," Bucky says brightly,"but I'm also your only reanimated assistant."

"What?” Tony asks, pausing in the middle of unlocking the gate from the inside to give him a confused look before realization dawns and he huffs out “you're not even counting Dummy?"

"Dummy is an abomination of random animal parts,” Bucky points out, wholly unimpressed, “and he spends most of his time trying to eat the furniture."

"He's doing his best," Tony says with a sniff and returns his attention to the lock, “besides, he was a very early attempt. And now look at you, you don't even eat furniture or crave the flesh of the living."

"Just yours," Bucky says with a toothy grin, then barks out a startled laugh when Tony responds by winking and wiggling his eyebrows. "Stop that," he says without any heat, "are you even allowed to make flirty-face at the zombies you make?"

"I'll definitely have to look into it," Tony says dryly as he finishes unwinding the chain that holds the gate closed, "because I clearly care so much about things like rules." The cemetery gate creaking open punctuates his point pretty well, and then Tony is spinning on his heel as he says "Now c’mon, we gotta collect the pieces for my next masterpiece before sunup."

"Well now you're just tryin' to make me jealous," Bucky says dryly, but follows him without complaint and grins when Tony throws his head back with a laugh.

Planning For Dinner Before Breakfast

Flufftober Day 2: "You've Told Your Parents?"

A/N: The funny story about this one is that I wrote it in 2 different documents writing the first half for StarkBucks Bingo and the 2nd for Flufftober and then I realised that they were perfect together! I might continue this again at a later date (maybe with another flufftober prompt) enjoy for now!

It’s not that weird to be thinking about dinner at breakfast, right?

Bucky Barnes is a parent or at least a husband to a parent and so that means Bucky will sometimes find himself driving to Midtown high. “Up and at 'em Pete, you have an hour till we leave,” those words have found their way into Bucky’s traditional vocabulary and with no sound of movement, he goes back to knocking on the door. “Pete there’s french toast in the kitchen if you’re quick enough,” and with the sound of movement, Bucky smiles going back to breakfast.

In the kitchen sits Tony drinking the coffee Bucky had made that morning, which makes Tony much more reasonable in the morning. “Good morning,” Bucky lightly kisses Tony before going to make the french toast he promised Peter, “I’m making french toast, do you want some?” He asks beginning the process of turning on the stovetop and getting out a pan.

Tony laughs at his husband's gesture, “what puppy eyes did Peter throw at you to make french toast?” It’s not completely unreasonable for Tony to say this as Bucky really does want to make Peter feel at home so if that means french toast to wake him up Bucky will make french toast.

Shaking his head Bucky continues his morning process making another coffee while the pan and butter heat up. Then continuing to talk to Tony refuting the previous statement “no puppy-dog eyes just want him to feel comfortable.”

“You want him to wake up for school,” Tony teases at how evident his husband is, smirking as his son walks down the hallway, Peter comes to hug Tony from behind, “did you guilt trip Bucky into making french toast this morning?” Tony punches Peter as he moves onto the barstool next to his dad.

Bucky flips the french toast off the pan and sighs “Peter did no such thing, I just wanted it to be a good day, it is a Monday after all.” Smiling, Bucky stacks the toast passing the plate to Peter who immediately digs in, “hey! Don’t stuff your face you’ll get sick,” Bucky points with the spatula.

Peter rolls his eyes but listens anyway slowing down his eating habits, “can we do take out for dinner tonight?” He asks between mouthfuls, Tony and Bucky both give him weird looks for it.

The confused looks come from the parents who just cooked breakfast, “we’re eating breakfast and you want to talk about dinner?” Tony questions, he knows Peter’s a hungry kid with a large metabolism but even then this is a weird request from Peter.

Swallowing Peter smiles looking at both of his dads, “I wanted to invite Harley over for dinner, but thought that it might be a big enough struggle to cook that takeout might be best, he really likes Chinese maybe we could do that?” Peter takes one big breath trying not to continue rambling as he normally would and that tells both his dads that this is extremely important to Peter.

Looking between them both Bucky wants to make Peter comfortable and so he nods to Tony that he thinks this is a good idea. Tony finds himself satisfied by the nod, answering for both of them, “of course Pete you always know Harley is welcome here, but I would suggest that if you do want to invite him that you actually need to go to school first, “ Tony reminds looking at his own watch.

Bucky smiles grabbing Peter’s school bag and throwing it at him “come on kiddo, time for school,” and Peter groans after him.

The bell rings signifying the end of not only a school day but also the end of any co-curricular classes or detention anybody may be serving. Peter Parker is excited as he quickly runs towards his boyfriend's locker with a large smile on his face. It may be late, but no better time to ask.

“Do you want to come to my place for dinner tonight,” Peter asks Harley as he leans on the other side of the now-closed set of lockers. With the day coming to a close and Peter and Harley supposed to walk home together after decathlon practice it seems like a good idea to ask now. Peter continues as Harley puts on his backpack, “It would just be my dad’s nobody else, I wouldn’t ask you to meet the team or anything I feel like that’s way too dramatic.”

Harley smiles listening to his boyfriend struggling to string words together. Smiling he grabs Peter’s hand walking through the front of Midtown high, “have you told you’re parents?” Harley asks because that seems like the normal thing to do as he pulls out his phone to tell his mum that he’s spending dinner at the tower and that she won’t see him until he gets home.

Peter stops in motion his eyes wide, arms swinging between stops and he whispers, “not about us, I haven’t said anything about us but, I could if you wanted me to I’m sure they’d be fine with I think I just would need a bit more time but if you want to then that’s okay.” The sentence comes out in one spur of words and Harley feels bad for putting these thoughts back into Peter’s head.

Kissing Peter’s dimple Harley smiles back at him, “I was asking if you had asked your parents about if I was allowed to come to dinner tonight. Not about us, I understand if you’re not ready too, that is perfectly okay.” Harley kisses the other side of Peter’s face as his dimples come back with a smile on his face.

They go back to holding hands both walking the 20-minute journey back to the tower hand in hand and smiles on their face the whole way back. At least before the impending doom when they walk into the tower walking hands, straight into Tony Stark, “what’s this?” His eyebrow raises at the pair.

But that is a story for another day.

Borrowing Trouble

Bucky’s roommate Tony chooses the worst time to borrow his stuff; but maybe a little blowup will only make their friendship stronger.

Fandom: MCU/Marvel Pairing: Bucky Barnes & Tony Stark Rating: General Word Count: 875 words.

This is a fill for my @starkbucksbingo O3 - "Shh... I'm sleeping." and @tonystarkbingo A4 - AU: College squares, along with today’s @flashfictionfridayofficial prompt [#FFF175 Gloomy Daze]

Still in a bit of a daze from the phone call he’d just gotten, Bucky stepped into his dorm room only to see a person-sized lump laying on the sofa: his roommate, Tony.

Bucky had never met anyone with such an irregular schedule. Tony would literally stay up all night working on a project, catch a quick cat nap, go to class, then snooze through the rest of the afternoon and evening -- usually missing dinner. He would wake up just as Bucky was getting ready for bed and more than likely start the whole cycle over.

Bucky felt a little bad for waking his roommate up, but he really needed someone to talk to at the moment. “Tony, I--”

“Shh - I’m sleeping,” Tony interrupted, pulling a blanket over his head. It was a quilt that belonged to Bucky and had been made by his grandmother. She was a kind, caring, funny woman who Bucky had many precious memories of... and had passed away just that morning.

“Give me that!” Bucky shouted, startling them both. But he couldn’t help it - his grief suddenly flaring into anger. He snatched the quilt away from Tony, only to see that his roommate was wearing one of his sweatshirts. “Goddamnit, Tony. Why are you such a mooch - I know you’ve got money, so go buy your own damn stuff for once!”

Tony’s eyes were wide with shock and fear. “I’m sorry! I didn’t mean it!” He struggled out of the hoodie, leaving it on the floor as he fled their room.

Bucky instantly regretted his outburst. He honestly didn’t mind Tony borrowing his stuff; in fact, a small part of him enjoyed seeing Tony in his clothes more than maybe he should. And Tony was the furthest thing from a mooch -- he’d gone out and bought a bigger fridge for their room when he saw Bucky didn’t have one and was always willing to chip in if someone came up short when the group went in on a pizza order.

Bucky sat down heavily on the couch, clutched the quilt to his chest and let the waves of emotion finally roll over him. His grandmother had been the only one in his extended family to support him when he came out, and he loved her even more for that.

She’d also always been the one he’d go to for no-nonsense advice. He could almost hear her voice now: “Now what did you go and do that for? Scared the poor boy half out of his wits, I bet. Better fix the mess you made.”

Bucky pulled himself back together and went downstairs to the dorm lobby, where Clint was watching cartoons. “Hey, have you seen Tony?”

Clint frowned. “Yeah - he just ran out of here like a bat out of hell. Didn’t even have a jacket, and it’s kinda nasty out there.”

“Shit.” Bucky ran back up to their room, grabbed the discarded hoodie and headed out to try to find his roommate.

A heavy layer of fog had descended on campus, and a cold rain was pelting down. Bucky got out his phone to send a couple of quick voice-to-text messages as he made his way toward the Engineering building, which was more or less Tony’s second home.

I’m really sorry I yelled at you

I was upset

I just found out my grandmother passed away

She made that quilt for me - but I was wrong to get so angry.

You’re a great roommate

You can borrow my stuff any time

Bucky spotted Tony; he was standing in the doorway to the building, his wet t-shirt clinging to him, with his phone in hand. He looked up and flinched just a little when he saw Bucky.

“Tony?” Bucky called out, stopping a few feet away. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have blown up at you like that.”

“I didn’t know about your grandmother,” Tony replied, his voice small and quiet.

“I only found out about five minutes before I got back to our room, myself. I guess I was kind of in shock, and I overreacted. Here.” Bucky held out the hoodie, which was already half-soaked. “You’re not a mooch. I don’t know why I said that.”

“I guess I could be better about asking, first.” Tony took the hoodie and draped it over his shoulders. “I just ... well... friends share stuff, right? And -- we’re friends, aren’t we?” The cautious, hopeful look Tony gave him made Bucky’s heart skip a beat.

“Yeah - of course we are.”

Tony’s expression brightened. “And it’s not my fault my stuff is too small for you to wear.”

“No, I suppose it isn’t,” Bucky replied with a grin. “You know, you do let me store stuff in your fridge. And I watch your TV, like, all the time. Maybe I’m the mooch, after all.”

“No, you’re not,” Tony answered decisively. “Hey, um - I know I’m not good at personal friendship stuff, but would a hug maybe make you feel a little better?”

“Yeah, I think it would.” Bucky’s heart warmed at the offer, but he couldn’t help laughing at the squishy sound their soaked shoes made as they stepped toward one another. “How about we head back and change into dry clothes first?”

Headcanon for this specific situation under the cut

Please consider: 1. JARVIS has access to all video feeds available ever: movies, but also actual surveillance footage from all over the world (illegally accessed but it's not like Tony cares about that). 1b. Due to his location in Stark Tower, he also has access to footage of exceptional liars, such as several trained assassins/spies, and very good Public Relations / Business people. 1c. He would be exceptional at reading body language. 1d. JARVIS would be able to accurately assess the Winter Soldier's threat level. 2. Tony has absolute trust in JARVIS. 2b. Tony trusts JARVIS to protect him from any danger inside Stark Tower. 2c. He has safety protocols in place but he knows if he's in danger JARVIS will tell him regardless of any protocol, so he doesn't need to consider every situation. 2d. He probably has asked JARVIS to tell him when someone crosses the door to the workshop but he may have forgotten to explicitly specify the same about unconventional access points. 3. Tony is a disaster of a human being, one part of which is being a workaholic. 3b. Tony spends a lot of time in the workshop. 3c. He sleeps there sometimes. 4. Bucky Barnes is a brainwashing formerly dehumanized victim. 4b. JARVIS is probably one of the few people who is truly neutral about him: doesn't want anything from him, doesn't pity him, nor love him because of pre-hydra stuff (because love you feel unworthy of can feel unbearable sometimes), nor hate him, nor fear him, nor have uncomfortable flashbacks related to his past. 4c. JARVIS is also one of the few people he can't kill by mistake (even if he destroyed the server there have to be backups; it would take a planned coordinated attack). 4d. Past Bucky loved technology. 4e. Bucky would love JARVIS (and at the very least tolerate the bots). 4f. I choose to believe JARVIS would like him too. 5. Bucky Barnes is a trained assassin. 5b. When he doesn't want to deal with other people he'd totally use the vents to get around. 6. Bucky Barnes has a metal arm. 6b. That arm needs maintenance. 6c. Robot maintenance tools are in Tony's workshop (not that he doesn't leave his tools all over his house, but the workshop is probably where you can be reliably sure to find them) Which means: 7. Bucky would pop out from the vents into Tony's workshop to work on his arm when Tony is sleeping there (and JARVIS would let him). Dummy and You would love it (a friend!). Bonus: 8. Bucky would meet Clint in the vents every so often. It's fine. Clint understands the need for occasional vents-crawling. He doesn’t try to force interaction on him and they just pass each other by. 9. Bucky could just take the tools and not have to come back, but: 9a. Tony may notice (he'd probably just think he misplaced the missing tool, but that still is a possibility) 9b. the arm needs a hundred different tools 9c. and Bucky kinda likes interacting with the bots actually

“This is the weirdest cat in the world,” Tony says happily as they watch Alpine go splashing into another puddle of muddy water.

The lingering scent of rain hangs over the city streets, muffling everything else for a moment, and Bucky drags in another deep lungful of air as Alpine dashes off to the next puddle. Her white fur is already soaked in muddy water halfway up her tiny body, splattering all over the sidewalk and their legs as she leaps from one puddle into the next.

“I can’t decide if it’s weirder that she does this, or that she lets you give her a bath afterwards,” Tony continues, shifting the leash into his other hand as Alpine darts around them and nearly tangles them all up.

“She didn’t used to ‘let’ me bathe her,” Bucky says with a snort, “that was a whole other battle that I barely survived.”

“You were not almost defeated by a ball of fluff,” Tony says with a laugh that brings a wide smile to Bucky’s face, and he happily launches into the story as they continue wandering the post-storm streets of the city.

When Tony comes to an abrupt stop it pulls Bucky to a stop too, his arm still wound tightly around Tony's waist.

“Look look,” Tony says excitedly, leaning into Bucky’s side a little more heavily to make sure he has Bucky’s attention, and Bucky obediently turns his gaze up to the sky where Tony is looking.

There’s a large, double rainbow across the sky, stretched almost perfectly between two tall buildings, and Bucky feels his eyes widen slightly as he takes it in. He turns to Tony and instead finds himself staring at empty air for a second because Tony is in the middle of bending down to scoop Alpine into his arms, muddy puddle water and all.

“Well now you both need a bath,” Bucky says with a sign, and then something occurs to him and he demands “is that my jacket?”

“Of course it is,” Tony says dismissively, most of his attention on spinning slightly in place and trying to point Alpine’s face at the rainbows.

She’s more interested in trying to climb up onto his shoulder though, and Bucky can’t even pretend to be annoyed when he’s too busy laughing at the perfect brown paw print on Tony’s cheek.

“She deserves to see this!” Tony insists and when Alpine finally settles into his arms he tips her up a little to make sure she has a good view.

“Can cats even see color?” Bucky asks, looking up to admire the sky again himself.

“You should know that, she’s your cat!” Tony says with a laugh.

Bucky turns to look at him, a half formed accusation that she likes Tony more anyways already on his lips, but then his eyes land on Tony’s face and he loses all his words. Tony’s smile is small, but so real that it takes Bucky’s breath away, lighting up Tony’s eyes as he begins explaining light refraction to Bucky’s mud soaked cat.

For several long seconds Bucky can’t breathe. He can’t do anything but stare, his throat tight as warmth spreads through his chest, through his entire body.

There’s no telling how long they stand there before Alpine decides she’s had enough and hops down to go find the next puddle, but Bucky can’t tear his eyes away from Tony’s face until Tony gives him a warm grin and pulls him back into motion.

Days in New York are hard, they’re filled with paperwork and meetings and Obie breathing down his neck anytime he says anything of any nature, coffee helps with all these things (or at least most).

Tony Stark is certainly more difficult to work for in New York.

Days in New York are hard, they’re filled with paperwork and meetings and Obie breathing down his neck anytime he says anything of any nature.

They also commonly coincide with the firing of assistants and secretaries who learn that Tony’s job isn’t easy. He just wishes that Obidah would realise this as he sits across from his current assistant to explain the difference between his coffee order and the coffee he was handed this morning.

“This,” Tony displays in one hand, “is a caramel macchiato, with,” there’s a pause as if it disgusts him “whipped cream,” and it does. A smile returns back on his face that is much too sweet for any more sugar to be added to it. “This,” he gestures to the drink not in a Starbucks cup and instead in the paper cup of the current establishment, “is the beautifulness of an Italian espresso with caramel syrup, no added sugar,” he adds with a tight smile.

Bucky can be seen laughing from the counter watching Tony and his assistant, (Becky he thinks he remembers) have their ‘important lunch meeting’. Tony watches him laugh lifting a single eyebrow and Bucky quickly shuts up.

Turning back to the assistant (Ginny? Bucky’s not really sure) Tony continues his ‘teaching’. He sighs as if this is a big deal, the make or break of an assistant, “coffee should only come from here, this particular coffee shop, no other and certainly not a Starbucks,” Tony once again shudders. Passing a mug towards the girl Tony smile again and she’s honestly not sure if what she’s about to drink is poison, “try it.”

The assistant tries it (Pheobe? No that’s the Friends character, (No the character’s Rachel!)) and her face seems shocked, which pleases Tony. “It’s the same as the malibu office coffee,” Tony nods shortly.

He looks over to Bucky but directs the next sentence to the assistant, “all my coffee some from here, same beans, same workers,” he turns back to here to make his point clear, “but when in New York the coffee must only come from this shop.”

Lifting his shoulders and putting his phone in his pocket Tony takes the takeaway coffee in one hand and shifts the Starbucks monstrosity towards his assistant (penny?), turning away and not allowing her to get a word in.

Moving swiftly towards Bucky Tony smiles leaning over the counter and Tony can see him looking at his best assets which he knows look great in this particular suit, “pick me up at 7?” He asks back with that sickly sweet smile.

Nodding Bucky yells to the back, “Stevie you’re closing tonight,” knowing that his co-owner would have heard the loud shouting. It’s so loud that Tony’s new assistant (maybe it’s Kelly?) jumps slightly. Tony kisses Buckly lightly, his boyfriend tasting of coffee as their lips touch.

Coming out of that mood Tony quickly changes his demeanour turning back to his assistant, “Jamie put it into my calendar that I have a date from 7 till whenever I say tonight,” he stops for a moment looking back to Bucky, “actually I’ll have tomorrow off as well.”

Bucky bites his lip wanting to laugh at the ridiculous look that's on Jamie’s face, quickly grabbing Tony’s bag, forgetting her own, and running after Tony.

Tony Stark is certainly more difficult to work for in New York, and that may have to do with a certain Bucky Barnes.
