Disclaimer: this post was made on the first of January 2020. Adam Driver was one of my main celebrity crushes at the time. This post is cringe. You’ve been warned.

You thought that it’s going to be a musical post but I tricked you and it’s another “Star Wars” post and it’s probably to be unbearably long. Sorry. I’ve watched “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”. In the cinema, but since it’s already not an actual topic I decided to make this post queued too. Okay, firstly I’m going to state one thing clear – I enjoyed it while watching. It made me feel feelings and I cried. A lot. Like, more than I expected and more than usual. I had salty stains on the inside of my T-shirt because tears were running down my neck and then inside of the shirt. That’s even though I’ve known most of the spoilers (SPOILERS!) about

Palpatine, about

Hux, about

Reylo and about

Kylo.

1) The stupidest thing ever. Really? Did you need to start that Indian movie stuff again? Did you need to bring back that old creep to move the plot? The new characters weren’t enough? Rey just being Rey wasn’t enough? I mean – yes, fanservice and so on, but weren’t voices of the other Jedis enough? You could have brought Palpatine voice to talk to Kylo, for example. Whatever – the idea about emperor was strange and unnecessary. Minus five out of ten. 2)They reduced Hux’s role to a minimum and brought back some old general, who served to Palpatine and he somehow stands between Kylo and Hux – in the previous movie Kylo was his immediate boss and now Hux’s boss is that general and he takes orders from him and not from Kylo. Though – there was one scene in which Supreme Leader asked general Hux if he likes his mask – this scene seems to be shot specially for Kylux shippers and those Kylux mmv videos. Let’s talk about his betray. What? I mean it was fairly unexpected, but not really motivated and again this old general spoiled the whole plotline by immediately shooting Hux. I don’t want an old general I saw for two minutes to shoot general Hux, I want Supreme Leader to deal with it, to read his mind to make this a tensed spy subplot. Two out of ten. 3)Well… (inhale-exhale it's not the time to swear. Yet) You know that I don’t like that pairing and now I have a question – is it canon now? Or what? What did the hell happen? Or was it like Finn and Rose kiss – Disney is going to forget about it and want to us to do it too? I’m not that much against it but it just came out of nowhere – she stabbed him half an hour ago and now they are kissing and you want us to believe that it’s sincere? Really? Even if this was to happen, I want to think of it as something which happened just because they were both exhausted physically and morally and did it on autopilot just because the hug wasn’t enough. So, not here for Reylo. I’m here for the final Poe/Finn/Rey hug. Three quarters out of ten, especially if it’s considered canon now. 4) *internal screaming and external suffocating* They killed Kylo! They made him disappear! I know how stupid it sounds right now; I don’t care. Even knowing all the spoilers, I was sitting in the dark cinema hall and internally chanting: “Don’t you dare!”, like if they can change the movie, because I don’t want him to die. To be honest, I can understand why they did, but I don’t want to. They did it because they didn’t know what to do with him if he survives: most of the onlookers still think of him as a simple villain, and the redemption ark was too short, too brief and they are going to be disappointed. I still start trembling every time I think of it. At least they let him *voice cracks*smile – when he smiles, my heart melts like ice-cream in the sun. Minus infinity out of one hundred.

Well, I enjoyed Finn/Poe communication (fist-bump to Oscar Isaac, who shames Disney for not making Stormpilot canon (and shames Disney in general)), I enjoyed action scenes and light sabre fights. I adored Jannah and her fellow former stormtroopers. The scene with cavalry on a Destroyer may work as an excuse for the pathos of the second half of the movie. The ending scene is very-very moving.

P.S. They actually reduced Rose (Kelly Marie Tran) role because of Chinese racism?! *a lot of swearing*

P.P.S. Our distributors didn’t cut the lesbian kiss, which was cut in Chine and which you can miss if you blink. Hooray, I guess. Jesus, I’m being happy because they didn’t cut that scene. Maybe they just didn’t notice it.

P.P.P.S. If you can recommend me some Kylo x male reader or some fix-it fanfiction, you are a saint, please do it, you are very welcome.

Top Ten Robot Masters I Forgot

My mind is like a steel trap... that’s rusted open. And truth be told, I haven’t personally played every single Mega Man game... okay, I haven’t played most Mega Man games. Between that and some Robot Master’s complete and utter lack of fan presence, I forgot what a few of them looked like, or what their gimmick was, or, well... that they ever even existed to begin with.

Having started a project that requires review of all the Robot masters, I was surprised to discover just how many had slipped my mind. So here’s my list of the top ten Most Forgettable. (Please note that this list is not a reflection of how good these characters are, how difficult they were or were not to beat, the quality of their design or level or music, etcetera.)

Honorable Mention: MKN-002 Punk [MMIII] - there’s Ballade, there’s Enker, and then there’s Whatshisname The One With The Buzzsaw Mohawk.

10: DLN-006 Bomb Man [MM1] - while his design is unique and memorable, his lack of fan presence makes him the most forgettable from the early games.

9: WWN-002 Mega Water S & WWN-003 Hyper Storm H [Wily Wars] - sure we all know there were three special Robot Masters based off of characters from Journey to the West. But let’s be honest, Buster Rod is the only one who manage to endure.

8: DWN-043 Flame Man [MM6] - I think we all kinda want to forget about him and Tomahawk Man...

7: DWN-035 Stone Man [MM5] - pretty unremarkable from a group of otherwise very memorable Robot Masters.

6: DLN-065 Concrete Man [MM9] - who even remembers the poor man's Guts Man?

5: SRN-004 Mars [MMV] - has a literal head cannon and yet I could not recognize him. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a single solitary fan art of Mars.

(Actually if you go by fan art, there are only like four Star Droids.)

4: DWN-051 Burst Man [MM7] - the most forgettable of the... wait, I already forgot what kind of Robot Master he was... hang on... oh yeah, the "water types".

3: DWN-076 Chill Man [MM10] - literally the reason I started this list.

2: Dark Man Series 1- 4 [MM5] - ?????

Winner: DWN-080 Solar Man [MM10] - dead up thought he was a MMWiki April Fool's prank.

Alright, gonna be real, at 30 I feel ancient and decrepit compared to everyone else but I hadn't consumed literally *any* Star Wars content until about 6 months ago and only started reading SW fanfic last month. I've seen each movie at least 10x since then, the entirety of TCW twice, and am working through a stack of SW books.

Blog will probably have a different name once I figure out wtf I'm doing. Might start pumping out fanfic of my own if my exhausting customer service job ever leaves me with a few drops of energy. I also write original fiction that I'm sure I'll want people to read some day.

For now, I can be found on AO3 as ThatGayJedi, or if you play Flight Rising you can find me there as StarlessEyes. Probably going to make a yt account at some point since I love MMVs and video essays, not sure if I'll ever branch out to other social media.

SELF-INTRO SPEED ROUND:

My gender is... complicated. It's best to alternate as much as possible between the 3 pronoun sets I use.

Fiction and fandom are to me as much about reflecting on and understanding real world experiences as providing a respite from the same. Doing both is a bonus.

Favourite dinosaur: plesiosaurus.

My (neurodivergent) special interests are kinda like... a therapy nerd? Like, I'm into examining contemporary concepts of trauma and wholeness as well as those from other time periods and cultures.

I often use voice typing to reduce pain in my hands, but it makes editing kind of suck.

PHOT303 - Mileage Mary Vary - 4-23/2/2020

35mm cameras are certainly a favourite of mine, as they are compact, and cheaper than a new full frame DSLR. Medium format is my desired platform, but that doesn’t mean that 135 can’t be used from time to time.

This roll of Kodak Pro Image 100 started off in Totnes, with a camera that has been laying around for years...and it’s another Yashica. This time, its an TL Electro-X. This is an M42 mount 35mm SLR, with a simple stop down meter which has the coveted title of being the first camera with miniature lamps to let the user know that the exposure information. I thought I was use it for one more time before I eventually sell it, as it just sits around in a box never really being used, as my Pentax Spotmatic F is my main and only M42 mount camera. So this was a mix of a camera test, and another shoot for MMV. Although, I do not plan on using any 135 images for MMV, as they don’t hold the resolution and aesthetic for the project as well as the 120 format.

I firstly had one of my favourite lenses mounted to the Yashica: the Industar 50-2. This is a 50mm pancake lens, with a maximum aperture of F3.5 which was made in the Soviet Union. The lens is...optically different compared to newer optics and offers some certain nuances. Not to say that it’s rubbish, but it creates some interesting bokeh and is surprisingly sharp for what it is. They’re decently cheap to buy and millions of them were made, so they’re plentiful. Above, is a Mercedes 300 GD, which is one of many versions of Mercedes’ G series of vehicles. They’re robust and well made four wheel drive vehicles that can tackle harsh terrain, and even the hills of Totnes as it stands. The 50mm focal length is my go to focal length, as it can do close ups, and landscapes rather well for that I am doing. It is also easy for my to compose the shot, as it seem to see in this focal length in mind which usually makes it difficult to use anything other than 50mm.

The film is also quite nice. I have had several rolls for a while, and shot a few and not had them developed, so this served as the first one I ever had done. And fair to say, I rather like it. Pro Image 100 serves as a middle ground between the cheap as chips Kodak Colour Plus 200 and the expensive Kodak Portra range. It still manages to keep that Kodak golden glow but it doesn’t separate itself too much from their other offerings.

This is just around the corner from my home, where a number of 50ft Leylandiis where eventually fell after a year or two of discussion. Here are some Land Rover parts that lay in someones driveway and have eventually been taken over by the undergrowth. There is something inherently interesting about vehicles, and vehicle parts that get left on their own, and nature reclaiming it back to itself. I guess it is because it marks the end of that vehicles life, and it’s potential usefulness - although this isn’t always the case as they can always be reclaimed back to use and be restored with enough time and money.

I didn’t finish the roll in Totnes, and it was eventually finished back in Plymouth with the addition of a lens change...but to another Soviet offering. I switched to the Helios 44-2, which is a highly regarded copy of the Carl Zeiss Biotar 58mm F2. The Biotar is one of many optical designs set out by Zeiss, with the Helios becoming a copy after the Soviet’s invaded Germany during the Second World War. Again, millions of Helios’ were made and they’re plentiful and cheap, yet they’re steadily on the increase as people are starting to realise that vintage glass is unique. The Helios is no acceptation, as it can create even wilder bokeh when the stars manage to align. Wide open at F2, it is often soft and ethereal, with no real sharpness until one stops down to F4. Above is a Volkswagen Golf GTI, but the often undesirable MK3. The first two GTIs were regarded as hot hatches, yet the MK3 was a lot larger and cumbersome compared to previous generations. Just like the 300 GD, not a great deal of nice examples exist, so it is nice to see that some are still kicking around, 20-30 years after their release.

Sadly, 35mm film just isn’t the format for this project. It doesn’t match up to the resolution that 120 offers, as well as the visual aesthetic that the larger negatives bring along with it. I personally see no advantage to use 135 when 120 is far superior in terms of resolution, aesthetic and creative limitation. Each photograph costs a lot more, and there is a lot less of them, so one has to be able to selectively choose what makes the cut, instead of having some leeway of what can make the cut.
