Hey everyone! Celeste and Lucy here. We’ve finished (and now released!) a side project that we think people will really like, whether you’ve been following us for a while anticipating the release of Silhouettes or you’re seeing us for the first time with this post!

This isn’t about WWII at all, though like Silhouettes there are lesbians here. We’ve written an alternate history story focusing on figure skating, and specifically the highs and lows of ladies’ singles in between moral psychology, geopolitics, and love between two girls at the top of their game. To cut a long story short, we've put the yuri back in Yuri on Ice. Welcome to the world of On the Edge, a teen romance we think adults will love too. i do have an announcement! i have been working on an original story! it is a queer male romance novel involving rugby! i have it currently posted on wattpad and ao3 for your viewing pleasure! while it's a little different than my standard reader inserts, i hope that you can find enjoyment in the story! mulligriber "Alfred "Alfie" Hill had become content with the day to day of university. As a top student in the English department, he was fine with his days being filled with classes and homework. It left him little time to think about how isolated he became. But at a department party he wins tickets to see the university's rugby team "The Grand Blues". There he meets the hooker of the team and transfer student Ciaran Stewart who is more than happy to bring Alfie into the world of rugby. The King's Men - Nora Sakavic (All for the Game #3)
Real? 1.5/5. To me? 3/5 - Andreil my beloveds, Kevin's new tattoo, the plot if anything gets worse
I feel obligated to say that I can enjoy these books the way anyone can enjoy fanfiction that's maybe not the best written but that keeps putting your favorite characters in situations. I'm going to read it unless it's absolutely horrific.
Andrew and Neil my besties. My beloveds. I want the world for them and they got it! Some of their priorities could use rearranging though. I'm happy y'all are happy and want to jump each other's bones but maybe rest first? Some sleep? Some antibiotics for Neil's many injuries?
Kevin and his new tattoo was really so nice to see, I wanted nothing but the best for him. And for him to show up at their final game playing with his left hand again? Superb, showstopping, one-of-a-kind, etc.
Allison was my surprise favorite after this installment. She didn't really have any character development in the last two books, so getting to know her here was pleasant.
The whole plot outside of Exy really leaves something to be desired but again, I am choosing to suspend my disbelief far beyond the usual boundaries of non-Fan/SF fiction. Except for their drinking habits. "Kevin downed half a bottle of vodka in under a minute", no, he didn't. Not without throwing up. And he would not be able to play afterwards. I understand Sakavic was trying to give them addiction problems (and she did succeed) but the human body does still have limits.
The ending was surprisingly satisfying. I didn't expect it to end in such a rational (in-context) way, but it was honestly a nice reprieve from the everything else about this story.
All I really want to do now is stare at Andrew and Neil under a microscope. I also didn't realize until this book at Neil was only 5'3"? Neil Josten, my short king.

Story concept: YOU’RE IT!!
The world of this story is very much the same to our actual world. The key difference is that athletics took a much different turn. The world, when it comes to the athletics took a massive liking to the game of tag. So much so, that it’s a professionally played sport at all levels. With many competitors having played since elementary school. This story revolves around one such character, Mateus. Living a less fortunate life, he took on delivery jobs in high school, even though he didn’t have a car. Thankfully, there was one thing he excelled at, free running. Because of this, he was incredibly fast with deliveries and gained a considerable amount of stamina and experience. One day, while at school, they announce the tag qualifiers, a school competition to see who qualifies for the regional Tag tournament. When Mateus enters, his life forever changes.
This is a really basic and first draft concept for a story I’ve had on my mind for a while, I really just wanted to put it out there.

The Foxhole Court by Nora Sakavic
Summary
Neil Josten loves nothing more than Exy, a relatively new sport that's taking the world by storm. So much so that when the infamous Palmetto State Foxes offer him a spot on their team he accepts, even though the spotlight is the last place he should be. With a vengeful mafia boss father on his trail and teammates that seem more suited to psych wards than the court, it's not his best decision, but it may turn out to be worth it in the end.

God, the plot of this book. It's so hard to explain. Neil ran away from his mafia boss father, The Butcher, with his mom years ago. She died in their initial escape, and he's been friendless, homeless, and miserable since. Despite knowing his father in hunting him down, Neil makes the excellent decision of playing for the most infamous Exy college team out there. Sakavic really sells how obsessed he is with this sport because literally any sane person would be out of there, especially considering the way his teammates treat him.
Anyway, most of the book is Neil trying to figure out his teammates while training his ass off while also realizing he's in much deeper than he thought. This book reads less like book one and more like part one as pretty much...nothing happens? And yet everything happens because these people are crazy and somehow Exy is well-known for being primarily enjoyed by members of the mafia. The mafia part of the story seems to serve one purpose: making it feasible that the most batshit insane things happen in the lives of fancy lacrosse players. For example, major character Kevin Day used to play for the Ravens with his adoptive brother Riko, who happens to be a part of the yakuza. Riko breaks Kevin's hand and Kevin escapes to the Foxes where most of the conflict is caused by his history with Riko and the Ravens. When I tell you people are getting drugged, murdered, and threatened on live television, I am not exaggerating. It has virtually no coherency, but at least it's fairly compelling. Bonus points for a crazy development at the end.

Neil, the main character, is an absolute idiot. It is somewhat forgivable by the virtue that the story makes no efforts to make him seem like anything else. He's an Exy-obsessed fanatic who is willing to risk exposure and all the implied torture to follow to play on a college team that isn't even that good—in fact, they're infamously bad. While I liked the (crazy, twisted, toxic) relationships he was building with the other characters, I wish he had more autonomy instead of just doing what the other characters demanded of him.
Speaking of, not all the batshit in this book comes from the mafia; Andrew Minyard is sometimes more antagonistic than they are. Constantly on anti-psychotics (going off them will get him thrown in jail), in a codependent relationship with Exy superstar Kevin Day, and has a habit of drugging people to get them to spill their secrets, Andrew is one of the craziest written characters I have ever encountered. He does so much morally reprehensible stuff that he'll do something only morally questionable and it's like he's saved an orphan. Same thing as the plot; not very well written but interesting nonetheless.
Completing the trifecta is Kevin Day, Andrew's constant companion. He's the catalyst for most of the conflict in this book, and he was apparently childhood friends with Neil, who is now obsessed with him, almost as much as he is with Exy. The three of them are a recipe for disaster, but it's the kind you can't tear your eyes away from. Do with that what you will, because even I'm not sure how I feel about it. I will say that each character seems to have a distinct, clear personality; it was rare I got characters mixed up. Even Andrew and Aaron, identical twins, are very easy to distinguish.

This book is self-published and, unfortunately, it shows. As crazy and attention-grabbing as the plot and characters are, it can't hide the mediocre, sometimes outright bad, writing. In fact, sometimes it exacerbates it. With how this book jumps from shocking moment to shocking moment and the fluctuation between incredibly slow and almost-too-fast, it's jarring and not entirely enjoyable for the reader. It feels like Sakavic wanted to write a bunch of different tropes and set-ups, and instead of writing a few different books she decided to shove them all into one. The character backstories in particular feel like trauma upon trauma just piled on top of each other, leading to a list of trigger warnings a mile long. As such, the whole book feels very cobbled-together and poorly written.

Would I say I liked this book? Probably not. Am I intrigued? Absolutely. Despite the writing being not very good at all and a plot that is held together by the most frayed, worn strings of logic in existence, this is an attention-grabbing book. In all honesty, I will never recommend this series to anyone ever because it is truly bad, but I will probably read the rest of the trilogy. Why? I really couldn't tell you. I am undeniably interested in this book, mainly the character relationships. However, I cannot in good conscience recommend it to anyone. So concludes the most chaotic review I've ever written.

When Brandon drew back from the kiss, Noah was staring at him with an unreadable expression on his face. Brandon immediately began to prepare an apology in his head, though he wasn’t quite sure how to apologize for the kiss–or if he even wanted to. Apologizing would be like lying, and he was a terrible liar.
“You kissed me.” Noah’s tone was flat, his eyes wide, pupils blown and voice shaking slightly.
“Yeah….” Brandon braced himself for what was coming. He’s gonna punch me, I know it, he thought.
“I….wow. I can’t believe you kissed me.”  Noah’s tone was still flat, but his voice was no longer shaking, and his lips quirked with what Brandon hoped was a smile. Maybe even a smirk? 
“I did.” Brandon straightened his posture and met Noah’s eyes. “Bad move?” 
“No, definitely not.” Noah grinned, and Brandon blew out a breath of relief. “I just didn’t think you had it in you.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Defensive probably wasn’t necessary in this situation, but Brandon still felt a bit nervous.
“It means that I’ve been waiting for you to kiss me for months now.”
“Dude! Then why didn’t you kiss me first?” Brandon asked, incredulously. He threw his hands up in the air.
“Because I didn’t know if you wanted me to or not,” Noah explained. 
Brandon chuckled.
“Looks like we got our wires crossed, huh?”
Noah laughed, big and beautiful.
“That’s an understatement.”

The Raven King - Nora Sakavic (All for the Game #2)
Once again, objectively 2/5, but to me it's 3.5/5 - Gay people! Left and right! still don't understand this sport, overdramatized villains
For this book, not this review: TW SA, suicidal ideation
Once again, this book is composed of words. Those words are in an order. Is it the right order? Are they the best words for the job? The answer is no on both counts and yet here I am, in love.
When I say that I'm obsessed with the dynamic between Neil and Andrew, I mean I was rooting for their throuple with Kevin from like halfway through the first book and I was not disappointed here. Everyone gets a little more fleshed out and the Yakuza (or whatever the Japanese mob's name is in this story) feel like a real threat. However, Riko, the primary (sort of) antagonist is so overdone that he feels comical. But honestly, I was so occupied with the Niel/Andrew (Andriel? Neidrew?) of it all that he didn't even register for me.
The final two weeks with the Ravens was a bit much, as I don't think that's how Circadian rhythms work, but so much of this book doesn't make sense that it's easier to just suspend your disbelief and stop asking questions.
Also, stealing directly from a text I sent my best friend while reading this, if twitter and Exy existed in the real world, I would be cyberbullying the Ravens with everything in me. Someone would let it slip that they all match constantly and that they purposefully all sit, stand, and act the same way and I'd never let it go.

The phosphorus white glare of stage lights flooded his eyes, blinking softened the rays reveal he was on his back, looking up at the wooden beams of the community hall ceiling. The boxer propped himself up on his elbows and into a sit, each move laborious and slow. The ringing in his ears subsided a little and the silence around him settled heavily on his shoulders. Beneath the sheet of canvas tattoed with beer mascots and bookkeepers numbers, the wooden decks of the ring biting at his backside moved him to rise. Trash was littered all around the stage. Parting gifts hailed by a unamused audience. If only he’d risen then and not now, then they’d be pelting the other sap, he chasisted himself, kicking out a crushed beer can that skittered away under the ropes. Would that I’d stood up before. Limping over to a rope of braided twine he noticed a shadow moving at the back of the deserted hall and became aware of wet smacking noise he made with his mop. The loser spat, thick and foamy with blood, before shouting out,
“I take it I didn’t win then? 
He felt each word in his tenderised jaw but still followed the words with a dopey smile. 
The cleaner stopped flailing his mop and turned to look at the ring and the tiny trembling figure which could hardly support itself.
“Your trainer, and that manager. They should have waited for you, no?” he called back, anticipating the skinny creature would collapse sooner than reply.
Instead the boxer managed to shrug and slide under the ropes and onto the floor. They should have bloody well waited, he mused only once he was out of sight in the musky sanctum of the locker room.
Fully dressed with a cigarette dangling from broken lips he humped it out onto the street in search of a taxi. Nothing hurt badly enough. Not just yet for him to forget, that for a moment, he’d heard the crowd and been invited glimpse the cosmos reserved for pugilists.

The last short I posted here was a short exercise in world-building so this time I decided to take a crack at a developing character in a single scene.
