Book Review: Fourth Wing
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Hope is a fickle, dangerous thing. It steals your focus and aims it toward the possibilities instead of keeping it where it belongs – on the probabilities. Fourth Wing, Rebecca Yarros I don’t even know where to start with Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros. I’ve never in my life read a book this thick this fast. I legitimately finished it in less than a week. I was hooked from the moment…

Guess Who’s Back!
The last two months or so have been pure chaos. We’ve done everything from buying a house, to moving into that house, to little around the house projects. I’ve even ran a sound board for the musical at the school I work at. My husband and I bought a cute little 3 bed 2 bath rancher on 5.5 acres in the middle of the woods. We love it, especially the living room full of built in bookshelves.…

2024 Reading Goals
Goal 1: Read 25 Books I’d like to read 25 books in 2024. In 2023, I read five books all in the last three months. I wanted to try to set a realistic goal, not a goal I’d be panicking over at the end of the year. Goal 2: Post Consistent Book Reviews I’ve just recently started posting book reviews here. I’d like to get more consistent with it, which would, in turn, give the blog more content.…

Kindle Vella
A few months back, I made an attempt at posting my novel chapter by chapter on Kindle Vella. In theory, Kindle Vella was a good idea. I likes that I could update it every week and how the chapters basically worked like mini-episodes. The platform, in theory, was great! So, where did it go wrong? It seems like the only readers on Kindle Vella are writers of other vella’s. I posted my first few…

Did College Ruin My Reading Experience?
I started college as an elementary education major. I wanted to teach. I knew I wanted to teach from a young age. Looking back now, I know elementary was not the right move (I now teach middle). To even be accepted into the teacher prep program in my college, it was necessary to jump through a whole hoard of hoops, including a math competency test. Which I failed. Twice. Failing that test broke…

2023 DNF List
More Happy Than Not – Adam Silvera Why? I’m honestly not sure why this one ended up being a DNF. I put it down one day and just never picked it back up. I’m honestly not even sure how far into it I got before putting it back down, but sadly it wasn’t enough to hold my attention. Icebreaker – Hannah Grace Why? This one was too spicy for me. I’m not a huge fan of sex scenes, so I put this one…

Book Tropes
Book tropes have been around for as long as I can remember. Knowing tropes would help young me find fanfiction, novels I’d be interested in, and even some short stories. Everyone has differing opinions, but here’s how I feel about some common tropes. Love Triangle: One of the most common tropes of romance literature: three characters are competing for each other’s love, and only two will pair…

Cherry Picker Sneak Peak
Authors Note: This scene is currently unedited. It may make the final cut, it may not. By the time we arrive at the last ladder, we realize that we’re entirely alone. The closest group to us is still two sections away.  “For how nervous you were, you caught on fast.” “Helps that we’re in half decent shape.” “That’s true. You can climb this one first.” I hand Hudson the clip for the…

Book Review: Amari and the Great Game
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rating: 5 out of 5. Its fairly well known at this point that I adore Amari as a character and that I have strong feelings about both the creativity of these books, and the extensive world building behind it all. Amari and the Great Game has underlying themes of loyalty, friendship, and trust, but the biggest, most glaring theme is inclusion. From the first chapter, Amari is being shunned…

Book Review: Fantasticland by Mike Bockoven
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rating: 5 out of 5. Fanstasticland has a very interesting format. Keeping in mind that this is a fiction horror novel, its written as a collection of interviews. Each chapter is a new interview given by a different character who experienced the tragedy. Fantasticland is a fictional amusement park in Florida that rivals both Universal Studios and Walt Disney World. The entry to the park,…

Cherry Picker To-Do List
Get a better idea of who my characters are as people. Holland seems to switch from sarcastic and strong to scared and fragile easily. Give background characters more context. At the moment, they only appear when needed. We don’t know what their actual relationship to Holland and Hudson are other than just a prop to be used for dialogue. Hash these side friendships out more. Add inner thoughts.…

Editing Project Update
When I first started this blog, I started it with the idea that I wanted to start freelance editing. I joined a couple of Facebook groups, made a few posts saying I had availability, and added a contact page here. I got one bite from Facebook and very excitedly took it, but kind of fell off the train after that. I’d still like to get into doing some freelance editing. I’m really not sure how to…

Book Review: Amari and the Night Brothers by B. B. Alston
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rating: 5 out of 5. Oh my gosh this book. This book right here is the book that shattered my reading slump into a million pieces. Amari and the Night Brothers is a amazing adventure full of twists, turns, and an amazingly unexpected plot twist that absolutely blew my mind. I’m a major Harry Potter nerd, and if you love Harry Potter, you’ll love this book. Amari lives in a not-so-great…

2023 Reading Challenge
I set a challenge for myself in mid-July to see how many books I could read for the rest of the year. When I had originally set this challenge for myself, I was still in a reading slump, so I’m honestly not even sure why I thought it was a good idea. Maybe it would get me back into reading again? It worked, to an extent. This is my list for 2023: Completed Books: Amari and the Night…

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes: Movie Adaptation Review
Honestly, I feel like they could’ve made each part (the book has three parts) into its own movie. The movie was great for trying to cram three parts into one film, but the title screens separating the different parts felt a little awkward in my opinion. The biggest change in the movie was that Snow went back into the arena to explore it after the bombing. This never happened in the book. While it…

Book Lover Stocking Stuffers
Trying to find stocking stuffers for the book lover in your life? Look no further! A coin to flip for when you can’t decide if you should go to bed or try to read one more chapter. We all know you’re reading that extra chapter, but this at least gives the illusion that you might go to sleep before 3am. An old school library book checkout card bookmark set. We all remember (well, those of us who…

Book Review: Icebreaker by A. L. Graziadei
⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rating: 4 out of 5. Icebreaker by A.L. Graziadei is written from the point of view of Mickey James III, a college freshman fighting for the number one NHL draft pick. The problem? Jaysen Caulfield, who he’s fighting against for that draft spot, is on the same college hockey team. Both Mickey’s father and grandfather have gone down in NHL history, so he has some big shoes to fill and a…
