reading for fun
reading is such a wonderful way to escape into different worlds, learn new things, and relax, but sometimes it can feel like a chore. here are some tips to help you rediscover the joy of reading:
Tumblr media
find what interests you: start by exploring genres, authors, and topics that genuinely pique your interest. whether it's mystery, romance, fantasy, or non-fiction, there's something out there for everyone. don't be afraid to try new things and see what resonates with you.
set aside dedicated time: carve out time in your day specifically for reading, whether it's in the morning with a cup of coffee, during your lunch break, or before bed. by making it a regular part of your routine, you'll be more likely to stick with it and enjoy the process.
create a cozy reading nook: find a comfortable spot where you can curl up with a good book and immerse yourself in the story. add some soft blankets, fluffy pillows, and ambient lighting to create a cozy atmosphere that invites relaxation and focus.
ditch the guilt: let go of any pressure to read certain books or meet arbitrary reading goals. reading should be a source of pleasure, not stress. give yourself permission to read at your own pace and savor each page without worrying about finishing quickly or keeping up with others.
join a book club or reading community: connecting with others who share your love of reading can be incredibly motivating and enriching. join a book club, participate in online forums, or follow bookish accounts on social media to discover new recommendations, discuss your favorite books, and connect with fellow bookworms.
mix it up: don't feel like you have to stick to traditional novels or lengthy tomes. explore different formats, such as short stories, graphic novels, poetry collections, or audiobooks. variety is the spice of life, and experimenting with different formats can keep things fresh and exciting.
embrace the power of rereading: revisiting old favorites can be just as rewarding as discovering new ones. reread beloved books from your childhood or revisit classics that have stood the test of time. you may be surprised by how much you enjoy rediscovering familiar stories and characters.
remember, reading is all about pleasure and personal enrichment, so don't stress about meeting quotas or reading the "right" books. focus on finding joy in the process and allowing yourself to get lost in the wonderful world of words. happy reading!

“You're braver than you believe and stronger and smarter than you think.”
Tumblr media
Can you name this famous bear and if you can name this very well known bear, can you name the stories that have been donated to the Wood Street Mission and the 'Books Forever Appeal'?
The human was called Harry D. Colebourn (April 12, 1887 - September 24, 1947) and he was a Canadian veterinarian, and he also served with the Royal Canadian Army Veterinarian Corps during World War One.
On the 24th August 1914, Harry rescued a small black female bear from a hunter who had killed her mother. Shortly after this, Harry named his little cub after the city of Winnipeg, where he lived.
Tumblr media
There are "friendship" statues of Harry Colebourn and his famous bear in Winnipeg's Assiniboine Park Zoo and at the London Zoo. A 2004 film about Harry and his bear also starred Michael Fassbender, David Suchet and Stephen Fry.
Donating one of your favorite childhood stories to Wood Street Mission’s 'Books Forever Appeal’ couldn’t be easier. You can drop it off in person or even have it delivered to the Wood Street Mission, 26 Wood Street, Manchester, M3 3EF, The UK.

Pet reading. What?
Why would your pet need a reading?
It can be interesting to know “what is my pet thinking about.”
Like a real life Dr. Dolittle. 😊
Recently I had Dre’ana do a pet reading on our cat.
Dre’ana said she is overwhelmed by all the cat toys that are setting out.
I wouldn’t have ever thought an animal could get overwhelmed by to many toys. But in hindsight it makes sense. Us people can get overwhelmed with to many options.
Anyway the next day I put away some of my cat’s toys. I left out a couple of her favorite ones she plays with most often.
A little latter the cat started playing with the toys that were out and seemed thankful and happy.
Lol! That’s sounds so pitchy but it was a fun experience and a lot of what was said made sense with how our cat is everyday.
So if your wondering what your pet is thinking order a pet reading from Dre’ana at The Healing Store.
If anything you will be entertained.
Would you consider getting a pet reading?
Link in bio for The Healing Store.

Reading is my escapism. But I've just realised I literally escape into worlds which aren't that different from my own. Maybe it's just the thought that another woman is going through the same things as me that I find comforting.
It's either that or I go for a dark and twisty Thriller. There is no in-between.
Hmm perhaps I should try reading something fantasy?

2023 is the year I'll shamelessly add middle school level reading to my TBR list because I desperately crave the sense of accomplishment I last felt when I breezed through entire ~200 page books overnight in school
