Hamlet, but instead of going on a murder spree, he becomes a successful rapper, dissing his mother and uncle in every song.

Today is definitely a sweatpants and chill vibes kind of study day. Melbourne Breakfast tea, comfort food (in this house we stan the simplicity of cheese toast), and the Studio Ghibli soundtrack is a must.
I hooked my laptop up to the TV so I can chill on the couch while I do my readings and get going on this presentation I need to plan. Today’s topic is cultural appropriation in media and adaptations of cultural works from people outside those cultures.

Day 15: Favorite Part
My favorite part about learning in general is getting the chance to re-teach concepts and information, whether that means telling people interesting things about history, or giving my friends an extensive lecture on gothic literature (which has surprisingly been relevant multiple times because we watch so much horror!). Hopefully that means I’ll really enjoy teaching once I get out in the field :)
In English I love discussing and debating ideas about the meaning of literature with a room full of people who all bring different experiences and perspectives to the table. I almost always find a fresh and interesting way of looking at a text or topic after tutorial discussions.
In Italian it’s really fulfilling to be able to read through a whole text piece later in the semester and be able to understand it without any issues, or to have a conversation with someone and not struggle too much with language.

Okay, I know The Lion King is supposed to be inspired by Hamlet, but let’s be honest, it takes out a lot of the interesting, psycho-drama parts of Hamlet.
The mystery over whether or not Hamlet’s uncle actually killed his dad or if Hamlet was already insane? Gone.
The mystery of whether or not Hamlet’s uncle and mom were plotting to kill his dad? Gone.
Hamlet’s cruelty and Gertrude’s horror after he accidentally stabbing Polonius? Gone.
Hamlet’s descent into insanity? Gone.
Tragic ending? Gone.
Possibly homosexual bromance? Gone.
Now, you might say, but it’s for kids. I say, why?! It’s a play about court intrigue, insanity, and familial murder! Why would you even try to adapt that for kids?! Pick a different play (and not Romeo and Juliet, which is mostly about gang violence and horniness). Take the dick jokes out of one of the comedies, like Comedy of Errors or Twelfth Night, and do that instead. Kids would eat up the whole separated twins thing!
Also, they didn’t include the line “How now, a rat?” even though it’s a movie about animals!!! It does not deserve my respect.

Conversation
chat on Japanese JQuake's stream: general stuff about the earthquakes, asking other people if they're okay when the stronger one happens, fake predictions sometimes happen but are quite rare and are quickly debunked by other people in the chat
chat on English JQuake's stream: constant spamming (especially with stupid Among Us memes), acting like apocalypse is happening when Shindo 1 earthquake happens, stupid fearmongering comments like spamming the chat with "WARNING" and "UUU SHINDO 7 EARTHQUAKE COMING", wishing for major, destructive earthquakes to happen or saying stuff like "2011 Tohoku Earthquake was funny lol"

Circa 2017, this was the worst English class I ever took. My professor was an ASSHOLE to everyone and everything; he didn't teach so much as he talked at us for 3 hours, and he shut down any and all attempts to form alternate conclusions on any pieces. His opinions were the be all end all of the discussion. I took it because I needed the credits for my major, not because I wanted to. I had him for at least 2 classes, maybe 3, I can't remember because they were so boring I hardly payed attention.
UF has a shitty English department because it's a science school. Liberal Arts is secondary. My first mistake was applying to UF just because that's where my sister went to, with little thought into what I wanted to do or why. My second mistake was becoming an "English Major" (derogatory) because I wanted to be a novelist and thought English was easy. Writing isn't a career, it's a hobby, and if you get lucky you might just be able to make money off of it, but there's no concrete path towards getting published. Everyone's experiences are different, and all going into English did was hurt my han es of finding a real job because I have no marketable skills in the capitalist hellscape. Every English teacher taught by a different standard, so what got you an A+ in one class gets you a D- in another, and NONE of them taught me the technical aspects of English; no grammar, no syntax, no style guides, no editing experience. I'm completely blind; just about the only job I could get as an English major is becoming an English teacher, and I don't want that.
Honestly, my passion was in science, but I hate calculus and physics so I couldn't advance into serious territory. I would have no problem becoming a science teacher, like general studies, Earth/Space, middle or high school level. That's what I excel at, and it's what I would actually want to do if I went back to get my Master's.

Every internship listing ever
Reading all the job/internship descriptions, I find the same pretentious bullshit. They're all:
X Company is a dynamic company with energetic individuals. This is an opportunity for hands on experience and connecting with those in the field.
You'll be doing: pretentious garbage 1, pretentious garbage 2, pretentious garbage 3.
You must be available from 9-5 Monday through Friday the entire summer. Internship is unpaid.
You must have these qualities: experience with *obscure software*, broad knowledge of all topics, the blood of a virgin, etc.
Meanwhile, there's 600 applicants, you have to make a whole account on the company portal, and they don't bother to respond to you...
