My fanfic, “Defenders of the Multiverse” is a crossover story featuring the characters from three different versions of Voltron: Defender of the Universe, Voltron Force, and Legendary Defender. Observant fans will notice that I put VLD’s Keith and Allura in a scenario similar to what DotU’s Keith and Allura faced in the Fleet of Doom movie. This movie was also an inspiration for the whole novel-length fic that I wrote. The movie has two different Voltrons teams teaming up for an adventure, specifically the Lion Force and Vehicle Force teams. My story details a team up of the heroic Voltron pilots of three different universes, with the primary focus on developing the young Legendary Defender characters.

“Defenders of the Multiverse” began as a VLD Plance fanfic, an AU which is a revised version of the “Clear Day” VLD episode. I decided to continue that story with a second chapter called “The Greatest Gift” which led right into my Multiverse crossover fic. The two Plance fics became official preludes to the larger storyline.

In “Defenders of the Multiverse” I also emphasized that Kallura is canon in both the DotU and VF universes. I think VLD Kallura shippers will enjoy both the Fleet of Doom movie and my fanfic. 😉 Besides the Kallura scenes, I really enjoyed writing the Keith vs. Lotor sword fights and the space battles.

Spoiler alert: the “Space Angel” character in DotU was referenced in this story along with the Omega Comet DotU storyline, so look for that when you’re reading.

So I’ve noticed something while reading your Voltron fic’s, (which are amazing btw) which is that James is usually the character you choose to be the..uh I guess the “obstacle” between Keith and lance. Especially in “Broken Things” he seems to have some sort of sexual history with Keith (guess like a hookup?) then in your “Lighthouse” fic James…I guess used Keith to relieve some sort of sexual frustration cuz..teens.

Anyway I just find it fascinating that he’s always the character for whenever you need for that sort of storytelling.

Ohhhhh yeah.

Some people pick Lotor or Sendak as their ultimate "villain" in every fic. I pick James.

And spoiler alert (not really), James having a weird sexual history/attraction to Keith is also in my newest multi-chapter fic (which updates on Wednesday btw!).

There are I think several reasons why I chose James as that type of character, but it basically all came down to this one moment:

This moment stuck with me because…why was it there?? Seriously, what was that moment?

It would have made sense if James had approached Keith later and they had actually talked about their past, but that never happened.

So, because this was never explained in canon, my brain concocted a backstory for them based on this one moment.

If I'm being completely honest, I never liked James as a character.

He brought up Keith's dead/gone parents when they were kids with the intention of being cruel – and it would have been okay later on if that had been just a moment when he was a kid who didn't know any better. If he had learned.

But when the Paladins came back to Earth and were with the Garrison, I still found James to be a bit of an entitled dick.

For me, it's similar to the Voldemort/Umbridge comparison – how someone pointed out that Voldemort represented the enemies we thought we'd have to face growing up, but Umbridge represented the enemies we actually did face.

I think that's why I don't have as much of a problem with Lotor. Or even Haggar and Zarkon.

There's something about James' character that hits a bit too close to reality with the "I always get my way" ivy league school boy attitude. And that's why he always is the obstacle.

Because the fics I write are more about the relationships between characters and their emotional growth rather than a big, sweeping epic plot.

So the "villain" of my fics has to be one that is more grounded in the villains we have to deal with in real life, rather than a fantasy villain you can fight against and defeat in an epic battle.

The Plan

Hey, yo, been a hot minute eh?

Me? Hyperfixations and work. Not Voltron related.

What IS Voltron related, however, is some ideas I've been having.

I still have all of my research notes from back during the binge sessions, as well as the timeline and canon event logs. Still waiting on the dvd release for seasons 7 and 8, but at this point, I'm just assuming that's not going to happen; which makes me sad because dvd releases would have more goodies to look through (And I like my dvd goodies)

So, what's The Plan?

I haven't gotten anything in a document yet, they're all still disjointed scenes floating around in my head. It's essentially a rewrite. A script, moreover, honouring the showrunner's ultimate decisions in the series and justifying them with character growth and development. With some notable changes. And some expanded explanations of included elements.

Zarkon still dies. The first time. The Robo-version is a corpse puppet.

Allura and Lance still end up together. And it's believable.

Shiro still retires. And gets together with whatshisbucket, but doesn't marry yet.

Keith still comes into his own as a leader.

Lance grows as a Second, and starts taking others, and himself, more seriously.

Pidge is still a gremlin and Hunk is still a cinnamon roll.

Some of the more notable changes I'm planning out are actually some of the more important instances of the series that I feel could have been handled much better than they had been.

Allura's apology, for one, is an actual apology; and is moved to much later in the series to after Shiro's disappearance. It's a quiet moment, with nothing on the line, and most importantly it's something she does on her own.

Keith's decision to leave Voltron to work with the Blades of Marmora is related to how weird Kuron is acting. Keith knows something is up, but he doesn't know what, but he DOES know that he's more likely to find out working with the Blades. The private conversation with Lance is still originally Lance wanting to give up being a Paladin, but becomes Keith revealing his suspicions and asking Lance to watch over everyone and keep them safe while he's gone.

The Zarkon Fight at the end of season one has more thematic appropriateness, added to later when the team is attempting to get back to earth as soon as possible and go one that "vision quest" to unlock ftl travel. The 'fight your predecessor' scenes are going to be added in as the Paladins are being submitted to a final trial before officially achieving full control of their lions.

Adding on to that, the fight at the end with Haggar is not a multiverse-traversing mess, but a "battle in the center of the mind" that ultimately ends with Allura sealing herself and Haggar together until one of them is defeated. This is done with the knowledge that, regardless of who wins, there's not really a way to escape.

Spoiler alert: Allura wins. And escapes. And finds her way to the Paladins somehow. How? Something something Altean Magic, idk.

The final change I wanted to talk about is at the very end of the series. When the Lions reactivate and leave the planet, the Paladins are piloting this time. This is to symbolize that, though the conflict is over, their job is still not done. They've earned their place as the Paladins of Voltron, and in doing so have vowed to defend the universe from any that wish to harm it's inhabitants.

So, it's a lot, right? It's a lot.

I make no promises if or when anything will be written, but after seeing the reblog about how quickly it came and went, it makes a little more sense why things were the way they were and it continues to leave a bad taste in my mouth to know that. So I wanted to share the plans I've been very slowly chipping away at for a while now. I've got enough on my plate between work, my comic, my other fics, and commissions, that Voltron hasn't really been a priority.

I'll try to start writing things down and post snippets now and then, but do bear in mind that this isn't a full fic, or a narrative, or a webcomic. It's a script. Written with the full intention of taking pre-existing clips and rearranging them to match. Complete with scene calls, expression and read notations, and a sound track.

So forgive me for being reluctant to want to dive right in

Keith gets very introspective on his birthday.

It’s why he tries to speed-run the day every single year, in the hopes that maybe, just this once, he’ll out-run all the depressing thoughts and lingering abandonment issues that make their home on his shoulders and maybe, actually, enjoy himself. It’s never worked before, but in the spaces where Keith isn’t an optimist, he’s stubborn enough to see things through.

Keith in general tries to avoid feeling introspective because of his personal belief that getting sad about the things you can’t control is a total waste of time. Thinking about the life he could have had if maybe Mom hadn’t left, if maybe Dad hadn’t gotten sick, if maybe Shiro hadn’t gone to Kerberos- all of it is pointless, because ‘maybes’ don’t change anything. The world doesn’t care about what Keith wants, and he doesn’t expect that to change anytime soon.

So, with the exception of a certain knife and all the mysteries it holds, Keith is usually content with flipping off the past and letting the door hit it on its way out. But there’s just something about birthdays that bring out the masochist in him. The world won’t magically fix itself just because he blew out a few candles and wished for something too little, too late. And yet, it’s still that one wall he throws himself against time and time again, hoping that maybe, just this once, something sticks.

It’s a waste of time and emotional energy. The world doesn’t care about his sadness, and that’s the way he prefers it. The alternative means pity, and Keith refuses to be someone others feel sorry for.

But this-

“Happy birthday, Keith!”

This is new.

A cake. Presents. Decorations, even, lighting up the dining room and making it look lived in for once. Someone, multiple someones actually, have their hands on his shoulders, his arms, ruffling his hair. And normally, he’d shrug them off in favor of retreating into himself, because he knows what he has and who he has adds up to a grand total of one at the end of the day, but.

It’s his birthday.

So, as a present to himself, Keith lets himself relax. He even dares to lean back into the hands touching him, and feels a thrill of what might be quiet happiness when someone squeezes his shoulder in acknowledgment. He doesn’t look to see who it is; it doesn’t matter, in the end.

In the background, Coran wails something that was probably a birthday song on a planet ten thousand years in the past. He sounds like he’s dying, but he’s easy enough to tune out. Hunk and Pidge are arguing over the cake; Pidge wants to do some kind of fancy technological display stand, while Hunk insists on sticking to the basics. Privately, Keith agrees with him; he’s always been more of a classics guys, and he’s glad someone here understands that. Next to him, Shiro and Lance are explaining how birthdays are celebrated on Earth to Allura, which leads to a new conversation between the three as they compare and contrast Earth and Altean traditions.

Everyone is off in their own little world. But none of them ever leave the room or him. In fact, Keith is at the center of every conversation around him, listening in as it flows around him. Every now and then, someone casually reaches down and pats him without even breaking stride as they continue talking to someone. It’s a quiet, subtle reminder to Keith that he’s not alone. That he can join in anytime. That he’s allowed to distance himself from the conversation without his teammates (friends (family)) distancing themselves from him. The concept is so new, so novel, that Keith can’t help but stay quiet, content to observe and live in the moment.

It’s... nice.

Later, after he’s blown out his candles, someone will ask him what he wished for.

“If I tell you, it won’t come true,” Keith teases, in a better mood than he’s been in months. Years, probably. And the others will laugh at his answer and try to bother the truth out of him, but eventually they’ll leave the issue alone. Which Keith is grateful for. Because this wish, if anything, has to come true. He wants to get used to this. He wants to have the time to get used to this. But saying it aloud is dangerous, because that means others can hear it. And if others know about something, then that makes it real, and Keith has had too many possibilities slip through his fingers to let this one go.

Please, let things continue to be this good. Please, let everything stay the same. Just for a little longer. Just for forever.

This one isn’t related to Mass Effect obv, but the Dragon Age fandom and the Voltron fandom both got Really Bad really quickly. I don’t interact with fandom much at all, I keep to myself, but I actually have so many tags and people blocked in those fandoms that I don’t know if I can consider myself in those “fandoms,” even though I do enjoy both Dragon Age and Voltron.

R - Which friendship/platonic relationship is your favorite in fandom?

Shepard & Garrus is such a good friendship. I prefer them as friends because it really feels like best friends who (obv depending on how you play Shep, but definitely in my playthrough) bring out the best in each other, and thus end up bringing out the best in themselves.

Ashley and Wrex is also so good!

You seem to ship Sheith (based on some of your RTs), so just a quick question: how accepting are you of Curtis as Shiro's "husband"? (Sorry, I'm still salty about the tacked-on epilogue.) Thanks!

Well, not sure why you used quotes for husband. I assume Shiro and Curtis are legally married. I mean, I didn’t see the certificate, but the wedding looked legit. 

And so what if Shiro got married in the canon? Over here in my sandbox, I already have 1k on a fix-it fic where Shiro didn’t get married and he became a Galactic Coalition representative, assigned to Daibazaal. (Spoiler alert: He asked for the assignment.) 

After all, I’ve had to deal with my favorite character being sidelined, then returning as a clone, then yelling at his team, fighting Keith, divulging that he died in one of my favorite scenes in the entire show (why God why), then being resurrected only to be left behind repeatedly by his found family, have a wolf take his place in the storyline (which would have given us a Shiro and Keith forehead touch), and finally, watch him not even be able to get a moment to himself with the Black Lion, who saved his soul just to never speak to him again. 

My sandbox is much nicer than canon, if I do say so myself. 

In fact - how did I watch all that? Geez. The first two seasons were really good - for the most part - or else I would have lost all hope so much faster. 

DreamWorks, how did you not right this ship? And I’m not talking about relationships here. Seriously. This just didn’t have people jump ship. The ship capsized! 

Here. We all need a little love. 

Just think - if Cosmo hadn’t replaced Shiro in the storyline, this would be Shiro and Keith looking at each other. 

I know. I’m still crushed, too. 

TL;DR cuz I rambled a whole lot: There have been shows that haven’t nailed their landing before Voltron, and they’ll be many shows after.  That’s why fandom exists - to put the pieces back together again.

Quick Fic: Klance edition

Basically a fanfic except without actual writing/dialogue and it’s just a series of headcanons that make a story.

Keith comes to Earth like ten years after season 8

He hasn’t seen the others in awhile because he’s been busy with his Galra side (Bom/Galra government)

Keith’s aunt and uncle who had refused to take him in after his father died and left him to the foster system’s kids had reached out to him, saying they wanted to meet him

After much debating with Krolia, Coran, and one of his new Galran friends, he eventually decided to come meet his family

So he goes down to a coffee shop in Texas and is waiting to meet them (keep in mind that he has his bom blade, mullet, and is wearing a new black crop top jacket with a red Voltron symbol on it, so he doesn’t exactly blend in)

They show up (a boy and a girl) and talk about all sorts of stuff. Keith is all angsty because he thinks they’re interested in him because he’s a war hero and stuff

It’s not until they ask about what he’s been doing lately do they realize that he’s THE Keith Kogane

Keith is genuinely surprised because he figured they wanted to meet up BECAUSE he was Keith Kogane

They end up getting along very well and liking each other a lot

Then as they’re leaving, Keith’s cousin is hit on by someone (spoiler alert: it’s Lance who noticed Keith and is messing with him)

Keith’s cousins have some random thing they have to do, and so Keith ends up hanging out with Lance for awhile and catching up because they haven’t seen each other in so long

Keith realizes that he definitely still has a crush on this older, more mature Lance

Keith asks Lance if he knows where any hotels are for him to stay at, but Lance just has him sleep at his house

The next day, Keith has family bonding time with his cousins and gets in touch with his human side for the first time in ages. He ends up even teaching them a few sword moves because they were curious

That night, he meets up with Lance, gets drunk, and ends up confessing how he’s had an on/off crush on him for over a decade but Lance terrifies him more than fighting a war, so he promised himself never to say anything

Lance figured it was just Keith being drunk, but in the morning Keith admits that alcohol is like truth serum to him and that he apologizes if he went around insulting everyone (which is something he does)

Lance panics

They end up dating by the end of the day

Keith’s cousins find out that there’s fanfiction written about the Voltron team and show it to Keith

One of Keith’s cousins who’s a writer for some comedy show convinces Keith to have all of the rest of the Voltron team come and act out a fanfiction

It ends up being a Klance fic

The others find out that Lance and Keith have (finally) started dating in real life

Epilogue where Keith and Lance have adopted kids and go to Keith’s family Christmas and everyone’s happy

[snk] labrat au OMG so basically eren is being engineered to be a secret weapon for the military and he’s one of several final “candidates” to receive this ultra powerful serum or whatever, and jean is a lab tech at the facility. eren fails the criteria for the serum in the end, and jean helps him escape before he can be put down

[snk] LITTLE MERMAID AU eremin with eren as prince eric and armin as ariel!! it’s so perfect is it not?????? except the story is a little different from the actual little mermaid, it’s more like they actually have a chance to like fall in love lol and in the end they both abdicate their respective thrones and live a harmonious life on the open sea where eren can embrace a life of adventure and armin can still be a mermaid some of the time
