It hurts, it throbs.
The pain in his hand certainly hasn't dissipated. How could it of course? It has merely been 5 minutes of having a nail hammered through your palm… and then being forced to unhinge it yourself with the hammer is a painful process of its own, Copia is amazed that he didn't faint throughout the whole ordeal.
The eerie eyes of Sister Imperator are enough to make sure he stays awake for seven nights in a row. He certainly shouldn't have made that mistake earlier, or else none of this would have happened. He must have caught Sister in a bad mood. “You shouldn't have been so reckless, Cardinal'' Sister Imperator's voice rings through his head.
''Stupid…so stupid. You deserve this Copia…'' He murmured to himself while walking at a hurried pace across the hall. The wounded hand was wrapped sloppily with his own sleeve and handkerchief. He's careful enough to not let any drops of blood hit the floor or to have any ghoul picking up the smell, it is rather late so he was lucky to not have been seen by anyone.
But trouble peeks at the end of the hallway as he sees a peek of a ghoul's tail swaying right around the corner. Without thinking Copia hurriedly unlocks a room at his side and scampers in, pushing his weight against the door as he huffs and puffs. His head was woozy and heavy from the loss of blood, unable to make up whose chamber he just entered.
A familiar voice greets him as he slumps onto the floor, still holding his bleeding hand and struggling to keep a steady breathing. His biretta falls forward as his head sways a bit, murmuring ''I'm fine'' over and over again. He can feel his shoulder being held by two hands, guiding him slowly onto a leather chair. He sits obediently, shivering.
The Third Emeritus slowly holds his arm, careful not to touch his bandaged hand. He knows it aches, he can smell how strong the blood is. ''Copia , please let me see it.'' He coaxes him slowly, worry on his face as he looks at the other man sweating profusely, holding onto the arm of the chair with his steady hand.
''But Terzo…Terzo I'm fine.'' His voice hovers with his lie. He knows he's not fine and it's not wise to lie in front of him, now that Terzo is looking at him almost ready to faint any moment. His bleeding hand shivers from the pain and the cold air but he tries to keep a solid composure, which he fails almost immediately.
''Amore, I will not ask again.'' His eyebrows furrow as he slowly holds the other hand. Copia gave up, he lets Terzo slowly unwraps the handkerchief and sleeve that he used to stop the bleeding.
His palm is a bloody mess, his shaking intensifies as he winces a bit.
Terzo grits his teeth, he knows what happened and he didn't need to ask the other about it. He has seen the degree of malice that his own mother had done before on his brothers. He takes off his own glove, his pale hand slowly placed right on top of the wound, resting on it.
Copia winces again as his whole body shakes. He looks at The Third with tears in his eyes, still trying to appear strong to him.
''This might sting a bit, but I want you to hold on alright?'' Terzo watches him as if waiting for an answer. After a slow nod from Copia he closes his eyes, a warm glow from his hand as steam slowly released from him. Copia groans but he keeps himself still, he can feel the warmth on his palm from the others. Within a few minutes, Terzo lets go of him. Copia's wound had no more than just light bruises by now. The open wound is gone save only for the light blue and red patch on his hand, a single dark scar in the middle where the nail had hit him almost like stigmata.
Terzo shakes off his hand for a moment before putting his glove back on. He cups Copia's face as if to make sure there are no other injuries on the cardinal. Copia lets out a long sigh, relief as the pain is gone but also because he stumbled into the right room in the midst of his panic. As if his body knows exactly where to go.
''You shouldn't have used your power on me…Papa'' Copia’s voice regaining back his composure slowly.
The Third shakes his head while he slowly gets up. ''I'm more than happy to use them on you. I need you to be alright, not bleeding all over my carpet.'' a hint of his playfulness peeks through. At least he's not panicking, Copia thought to himself. He slowly caresses his palm, now only soreness and dry blood.
''And please Copia, its Terzo. Not Papa. At least not here where we are together si?'' He moves to his wooden mahogany table where a kettle of tea still hot and steamy lays. Slowly he pours a cup before returning to Copia, handing it to him. The other man takes it steadily with his good hand. He cups it, letting the warmth envelops him.
''Am I only a Papa to you, Copia?'' Terzo kneels beside him, looking up at the other man, there is no anger in his eyes only longing and perhaps…a slight tinge of pain as if waiting for Copia's answer.
''You know I love you, Terzo…I love you more than anything. It's just that…I'm afraid of slipping up. I don't want to risk us both, not you definitely.'' He idles, finger caressing the edge of the glass as Copia gets teary again.
Terzo slowly lays his head on the other's knees, sighing.
''I do not like hiding like this Tesoro… Even my brothers can see how I am head over heels for you. Why can't the others? curse this…'' He grits his teeth looking down at the cardinal's shoes. Terzo could feel the other's hand slowly caressing his shoulder, he purrs slowly at his touch.
''Perhaps one day…One day we sure will…We will let the whole clergy know even.'' A small smile escapes from Copia as he lets his mind think about it. About how they would walk together arm in arm in the hallway, sneaking perhaps into the garden to steal kisses from one another or even just openly having dinner together in the main hall where the other siblings are. He thought of how nice it must be to show everyone how deeply in love they are with each other, that a Cardinal can love a Papa much deeper than they might have thought.
''Perhaps…si. We will do more than just that I hope.'' Terzo shifts a bit as he adjusted himself back at Copia, he slips his hand into his pocket to fish out a small velvet box.
''W-what do you mean by that Terzo?'' it's Copia's turn to look at him with confusion. He eyes the other man who is seemingly… blushing through his own paint as he slowly opens the velvet box in his hand. Copia's eyes widen. He knows exactly what is that as he had been eye-ing at it for the longest time before, hell even mentioned to Terzo about it as well.
''Marry me Copia.'' Terzo smiles as he holds up the tiny box, inside a silver ring with purple gem, as purple as lavender glimmers back at him. The Third's eyes seem to shine the brightest though as he smiles back at him.
''Terzo I- are you su-are you sure? me?'' the Cardinal eyes meet him only with excitement, he had forgotten all about the pain in his hand.
The Third nods slowly, waiting patiently for Copia. ''I couldn't think of anybody else that I wanted to spend an eternity with, amore.'' He chuckles a bit. ''I know it is eh…a bad timing but I couldn't wait for another opportunity.''
Copia chokes on a sob as he nods, he slumps onto Terzo landing them both on the floor as he yelps. ''I do! I do Terzo!''
Terzo holds onto him, a giggling mess as he cups and kisses the cardinal on the lips. ''I'm so glad, we will make it through caro. We can make it through together si?''
Copia nods, he couldn't think anymore as he presses his lips against him again. The cup of tea may be spilled at the side and his hand might ache a little but nothing beats the shimmery shine of Terzo's eyes as he whispers I love you in front of him.
“I love you so much Copia”
The night stars seem to emerge themselves just a little bit more on that night.
