Vacuan Nights, Like Vacuan Days

They’re just so great together! I’d love for Jaune and Weiss to get a little downtime in Vacuo to live out a moment like this. They really deserve it, and I’d love to see Jaune’s guitar make a reappearance.

The comic here was inspired by u/Silverstar1243’s excellent piece of art, A Serenade Under the Moonlight. Send some love to them on their twitter, commission some art if you’re willing and able, they’ve made some great stuff.

You folks may have noticed I threw in a couple of references for those in the know; the Golden Oreos behind Yang (double stuffed, I might add) for the trio’s ship, Weiss liking it rough for Mallobaude’s great fic, and of course I made a whole theme around the Arabian Nights Disney song. A song, along with its Aladdin compatriots, which I spent the better part of a day finding covers for just to listen to on repeat while I worked.

This one’s now officially my longest comic project, with 14 panels, two over the past record since I added the White Knight kiss at the end. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. Not sure I’d say it was more difficult than my Vanity of Vanities post, but for this one I actually knew how to use my editing software going into it (at least somewhat).

Put a lot of work into this one, been working on it on and off since February. Took a few breaks for vacation, to make my memorial post for Rooster Teeth, and another five meme edits or so, but I came back around to it. First half was pretty easy, relatively minor edits inserting characters into scenes and so on. The second half with Jaune and Weiss was tougher though, with color correcting, merging poses, redrawing features, drawing Jaune’s entire head to fix some lighting issues, etc. Really like how the edit to make Jaune strum his guitar turned out.

The time it took to make the whole comic got me down a little, until I did a bit of math. Including my side projects since starting this, all the scripting and editing and all, I’ve been pumping out a panel every two days. That seems pretty good to me, that kind of accomplishment makes me a little proud of myself.

Really need to get around to watching the second part of the Justice League Crossover movies. It’s got a few Vacuo scenes that might make things a little more authentic instead of me just using Saphron’s house and pretending it’s a suite in Vacuo. I do love taking yet more character stills from Jaune and friends experiencing deep trauma and turning it into something positive, been making that a bit of a personal habit. And I’ve got to say, the background for Jaune and Weiss’ scene is really beautiful, pulled it from when Sun and Neptune hear Ruby’s message about Salem. That’s just a really good shot all on its own, I even saved a copy for my computer’s wallpaper after editing out the two.

Posting a big RWBY White Knight edit, watching not one but two RWBY Beyond episodes, and all on the trail of the news that RWBY’s found partners that they’re negotiating with and that the creative team is expected to stay on. And I'm sipping bubble tea. Life is good.

Anyway, pardon the long write up. I’m invested in this one, and am quite pleased with how the comic turned out. I hope you all get a kick out of it as well!

Laying here trying to take a nap because I slept terribly last night but all I can think about is how the show portrayed desperation so well. Arthur desperate to prove himself to himself, his father, his kingdom. Merlin deserperate to find a place he fits in the world AND desperate to prove himself to Arthur. Merlin spent the entire series trying to prove himself to Arthur, while Merlin was the one person Arthur didn't feel the need to prove anything to. They both were desperate to feel loved in one way or another. Merlin was desperate to save Arthur even after Arthur literally died. Like, I could go on. But desperation (and love) was the core of the show.

I am feeling things.

Danyal Al Ghul was the one and only heir to the Demons Head.

Then, he died.

The obvious solution was to put him in the Lazarus Pits and resurrect him. Although there was always a risk of him going mad, the pros far outwayed the cons.

Except the Pit didn't give him back.

Ra's, unwilling to lose his perfect heir, turned to cloning. The result? Many, many failures, and finally, one Damian Al Ghul.

Damian wasn't perfect. Far from it, really. He differed from Danyal in such critical ways, from their mannerisms to their loyalties, but.

Ra's had his heir, and that was enough.

The way Robert Jordan writes queer people into his world is such an interesting time capsule of how different things were in fantasy media just twenty years ago. Casually, almost every Aes Sedai on the page is probably bisexual. One of the Forsaken is a transgender woman. Many of the White Tower's male servants are gay men. But it's all so unobtrusive that it's kind of blink and you miss it---but catching it seems almost revolutionary. It's not anywhere near what we'd call "progressive" in today's world but somehow it still is, to see the attempt made. It'd have been just as easy not to include at all.

Aziraphale, Geo (Earth) fierce protector of the people. Also dubbed the Crystal Dragonfly because of his coattails. Routinely forgets to take care of himself. Guard (freelance).

Crowley, Electro (well. Electricity) a wildcard. Unpredictable and unreliable. Will lash out in unpredictable fits of emotions. Assasin.

Aziraphale, Anemo (Wind) bright eyed and slightly naive. Member of the knights of Favonius, even though they don’t always do things like he thinks they should be done it’s fine right? They’re doing their best! Adventurer/knight.

Crowley, Pyro (Fire) stoic, cold and heartless, except for when he actually shows himself behind he’s mask and lets his fiery rage over any injustice shine through. Burnt out trying to manage the family business and trade market. CEO.

Jaune: I said I don't want to have kids... Geez Ren you sure are a bad listener.

Ren: No-no I heard what you said. What I don't understand is why?

Jaune: Not wanting to have kids? I mean that's easy. There's the economy. Also with all the Grimm's attack lately. I don't want to have to see my possible children being eaten by one.

Ren: Yeah... You can't raise kids today on a huntsman's salary. But still Jaune don't your family really wants to see you having kids. Even your mom's been telling every girls you met that she would love to see her grandchildren.

Even me that one time. That I would rather not discuss... But still Jaune why?

Jaune: I don't know I just don't want kids, okay. I mean I like kids and all. I just don't want them. Maybe it's because of the economy or the Grimms or that I have a hidden fear that I will never be good enough to be a father... Point is I don't want them.

Ren: Well Jaune as long as you're happy....

*rumbling in the distance*

Wait. Why do I hear boss music?
