Moments from one of the most memorable hikes I've ever been on. My face on the first photo hints at how I felt at the moment (terrified and terribly displeased with my choices of that day), but since I survived the adventure, I am so happy I was there.
Switzerland, March 2024.
I wanted to hike this route which includes two mountain lakes, Sämtisersee and Fälensee. I was not prepared for the conditions. The 85+ km/hour wind was one thing, it made the hike less than pleasant, but I did not mind that so much, I even laughed about it and kind of enjoyed this rough adventure.
My problems started at the last section of the trail, well after passing the first lake, as I started to gain altitude. I knew there were two possible routes leading to the second lake, and as it would turn out later, I unknowingly chose the one that was much more difficult than the other. It was a really steep climb, a narrow forest path with a sudden drop on one side. No photos from this section, as I was fighting for my life there :D My crippling fear of heights makes such trails a huge challenge for me, but I have learned that I can deal with them so much easier using trekking poles, which I had with me this time. The other problem was the snow on the trail, which I was not prepared for at all, stupid me wearing running shoes with a smooth, slippery sole for this hike...add to that the strong gusts of wind that made me feel like I could be pushed off the cliffside if I lost my balance.
As I kept climbing, I registered that this situation could get really dangerous if I try to descend on this same path. I just kept praying that the other route leading to this lake would be somewhat less tricky, and I could take that on the way down.
I finally arrived at the lake, and a huge surprise awaited me, as the surrounding area was covered in deep snow, and the surface of the lake appeared to be completely frozen. I have to admit I was not able to fully enjoy the view, as I was scared and worried about having to descend the mountain safely before it starts to get dark.
But the view of the frozen-over lake and the snow-covered peaks in the soft golden light of the afternoon was breathtaking, almost out of this world. I have never seen anything like this before, and it was an incredible feeling being up there alone in complete silence.
As for the other route leading down the mountain, thankfully it turned out to be far easier and safer than the one I took on the way up. Going downhill was an easy walk with a gorgeous panorama.
This hike was a one of a lifetime experience for sure, and I'm so glad I did it.

Hi Bunnies!
I was sick most of July. Not the COVID but it really delayed my plans to get up and running with my hiking and backpacking goals.
Found the perfect day pack. Excellent Walking sticks cause I’m clumsy. Lots of reading and researching on proper Leave No Trace hiking/BP, proper gear and clothing and the safety of taking these trips. I’ve even signed up for a class with REI to teach me some of the skills I need to backpack. Yep! The Gemini in me wants to learn all the things.
Planning my trip to Utah in September. I plan to SUB on the Colorado River, try canyoneering, Dark sky star gazing, and see as many of the National Parks as I can see in 12 days. Glamping, mostly. I’m not ready to car or tent camp just yet!
Stay curious! Live deliciously!

Did my first solo hike during my last trip to Empire, Michigan. I am by no means a photographer, but there was something truly special about being so utterly alone in a place so devastatingly beautiful.

Besides, when I am alone I can become invisible. I can sit on top of a dune as motionless as an uprise of weeds, until the foxes run by unconcerned. I can hear the almost unbearable sound of the roses singing.

Journal entry #3
It's days like today to remind myself to get out in natures beauty, no matter the weather. Hiking season has started early for me this year. I'm on a mountain top basking in the sun and it feels unreal. Although there is other mountains far larger than the one I claimed as my temporary place of rest I can't help but to be grateful to myself for pushing myself out here when I was being stubborn and quite possibly afraid... afraid of I don't know exactly, but I will always have me and that's enough. 🖤
I made me marinate pork loin roast, asparagus and mash potatoes. By far my favorite meals I've created... then again most the things I make is pretty damn good. Haha
