a short femslash fic rec list for @spntoxicfemslashevent
this was for feb 29 but i forgor. to post it.
collision of light and fire by match_less, hannahmeg, <1k
you know how i love a trueform exploration. this is a fabulous one. it draws character without once putting its mains into their human forms, which i'm really impressed by.
handsome housewife by angelszn, fem!dean/cassie, <1k
i am obsessed with this fic. i read it like two months ago and i did not stop thinking about it even a little afterwards.
pigtails and crayons by bloodandcream, megruby, <1k
a nice kink fic which creates a very charming dynamic in very few words, by an author who is maybe even more obsessed with meg than i am
love hurts by benighted, megjo, 2k
another kinkfic. this one has the kink as the real highlight
blood spins my head by vaguesurprise, kellydagon, 5k
really powerful piece of lesbian awakening media. if you ask me. i think about it a lot. genuinely one of my favorite spn fics released in the last year.
instrumental by slopeslippers, hannah&naomi, 6k
this one isn't even technically femslash but it so so so deserves to be here. it's wildly homoerotic in the best ways and it's hitting that perfect balance of believable character work and darkfic edginess. like truly a joy to read.
memories of my melancholy whores by kalliel, meg/various, 9k
this, a long with another non-femslash fic, is a fic i intentionally put off reading until i completed my fic dog pit. so that i wouldn't be unduly influenced. finally getting around to it was really exciting. fabulous meg character study about bodies.
as you can see from this reclist most of this is the result of meg related tagdiving. because i have kind of a meg Thing. i really should make a general megfic reclist because a lot of it is good but also a lot of it is het. anyway. happy femslash.

Part 7 might just be my favorite part by far.
I'm so happy the rest results were negative. And Good for Mr. Gojo getting ride of the Wicked Witch. Also I'm laughing at Naomi and her suffering, she deserves it but curious about what's going on with her family and why they moved around so much.
Oh and WTF Toji WTF. You can't go behind your girlfriend's back and talk to her baby daddy to make yourself feel better and because you think it best for her and daughter. You just need to worry about your own kid and communicate your issues with Satoru still being love with Y/N better and let her decide what's best for herself and Yui.
Anyways (dramaticly put on a tinfoil hat) I have theory that I know you won't answer if it true or not because it would spoil the spice and the drama but:
I have this feeling the Toji's mother is Mr. Gojo ex-wife which would make Toji and Satoru half-brothers (talk about Y/N having a type).
Mention Satoru's older brother so much in this part and I can just feel were be meet him soon (if my theory is wrong) and also his mom.
You also mentioned Toji's mom a few times as well which caused me to draw the connection.
Also it's not like anyone would really make the connection because if Satoru and his brother ever met it would have been when he really little so he wouldn't know what his brother looks like and brother probably wouldn't recognize him. Though I guess Mr. Gojo could be curious about why his first born and Y/N's boyfriend share a first name but he'd just chalk it up to a coincidence because different last names (I'm assuming Toji last name is Fushiguro but maybe it Zenin in this I can't remember you ever stating it)
Okay I'm done theorizing (Removes Tinfoil hat)
And on on final note this line right here:
Tumblr media
Had me swooning. Like I've been flipping between team Toji and Team Satoru but damn I think I'm in love with this man.
Anyways bye for now and see you after part eight.
omg i just remembered that i wrote that line and whAT its now one of my favorite lines FDSJLSLSKS but yeah, hmmm that's an interesting theory👀 that would let the story escalate to a whole new level of drama :")) and i really liked writing the thoughts of satoru's father abt his rs w his mom. makes me really sad for him. living all those years, probably trying hard to convince himself that he could learn to love her for the sake of his remaining son :(( anywaysss thank u so so much for this, im sorry i took a bit to reply, i was so busy😭im grateful for the support always <33 take care~!!

Au where y/n takes her daughter to go see the barbie movie 🥺🥺🥺
Heya anon!
I'm sorry I took a while to respond, but I never forgot about this ask!
I gotta say, I was happy when I got it; I was in the middle of a trip I didn't enjoy very much, so it gave me something to look forward to when I got back home! So thank you so much for this and your patience!! 🥺❤️❤️❤️
As always, here is thy chapter warnings: pure fluff, a bit of... innuendos but like slightly, almost invisible, it's Y/N and Naoya being gross with one another, like a true couple lol. And some of the topics that the Barbie movie talks about.
Without any further ado, happy reading!
Tumblr media
It took me a while to decide whether Y/N would take her daughter to watch the Barbie movie or not, considering its PG-13 (I’m going with the idea that she’s not a teenager yet, maybe around 7-8?) and it has some topics that someone that young might not understand or become frightened by them you know? At least that’s what I thought when trying to put myself in the situation if I had a kid that would want to see the movie.
But after going through that dilemma, I’ve finally decided that Y/N would definitely take her daughter to see it, but only once she checked some things first of course!!
Let’s set a bit of context first.
I’m assuming you must know what my fixation, or major one at least, is so imma say Y/N and Naoya met during college, fell in love, got married, and after a while (not so much, they wanted a family ASAP) and had a lovely daughter named Naomi 😊
Naoya is the “breadwinner” per se, the one that works most of the time to provide his family with a good lifestyle, and that he certainly did. He initially bought a small apartment when it was still just the two of you, because in your own words, “with him at the office, and yours in your, there’s no need for that many rooms.”
That immediately changed when your pregnancy was announced. If anything, it seemed there were not enough rooms now.
“Our baby needs a room to play with her toys. But what if she wants to draw, or paint?”
“We’ll set up a room for that, that way she won’t dirty her toys.”
“And if she wants to play with her plushies? I’m afraid she’ll get hurt by the soft-hard contrast of each other!”
“We can’t take any risks; I’ll order a plush upholstered room just for that—”
“No, all the rooms! What if she accidentally trips and hits herself?!”
Of course, they didn’t follow through with that, because after sharing their plans with fellow relatives, they were quickly talked out of it. Saying that it wasn’t for the good of the baby to grow up so sheltered, and their wallets. Something that Naoya didn’t really pay attention to, eventually convinced otherwise when suggested that instead of spending money on that, it could be saved in literally anything else.
Cue the expensive, never-ending gifts from Naoya. Whatever his girls wanted, they would get—he’s the next CEO to his family’s company, it would be stupid to act like he wasn’t!
Because he’s so doting in one aspect, he’s a bit reserved in the other, at least outwardly… and a bit inwardly too since this is all new territory for him—He didn’t grow up in a loving household where words and displays of affection would be done, but Naoya is really trying his best.
He still cares for you and Naomi, of course, he just lets money do the talking for him.
But worry not, where he lacks, that’s where you step in!
Taking the role of “stay at home mom” once announced your pregnancy, you’re the one that ends up all the time with Naomi, showering her affection, reminding her how much she’s loved by the two, as well as keeping Naoya up to date when he’s away.
Wherever Naomi went, pictures needed to be taken: either posing near the ducks of her favorite garden, showing off her new acquisition (you always bought something for her, whether she asked for it or not) or just enjoying a scoop of ice cream in a hot day, or when picking her up when school—didn’t matter, it had to be shared, and Naoya appreciated all of those pictures, keeping them in a dedicated album for him to look back on to when he’s feeling particularly down, although he always ends up a bit regretful because he wishes he could be there in person.
Because of your closeness to her, you’re the first person she runs to tell of her day, or whatever crosses her mind, thus Barbie comes into your life.
Outside of the craze that seemed to taint every living thing with pink, your closeness with her is what led you to learn that Naomi wants to see the Barbie movie, which you were more than happy to oblige to as you usually did, until of course, this became the first exception.
You always liked going to the movies with her because it usually meant an amazing day out altogether. It was either going to the park first, getting something to eat later, and watching a movie at the end of the day; or anything else really, whatever Naomi felt like doing—it didn’t really matter, because going out with her was enough for you.
In fact, as soon as Naomi came to you, with her big adorable golden eyes and her even cuter smile to tell you how she wanted to see Barbie —which you were waiting for, really, it’s what everyone has been talking about after all— you immediately pulled out your phone to buy tickets… but upon seeing the rating, you stopped.
It was the first time you’d have to tell her a maybe, instead of the decisive yes she was accustomed to, making her frown and pout out of confusion.
“Oh, it’s nothing! It’s just that I remembered I had some things already planned with my friends, but I’ll let you know when we can go, ok?” you smile, gently ruffling her hair before pulling her into a tight hug and peppering her cheeks with endless kisses, only ceasing when she whined you to stop.
You’d let her be soon after, while you… well, continued to debate whether to take her to the movie or not.
After all, the whole world seemed to be in on it: the dressing in pink, greeting each other Barbie, or Ken, blasting the classic song from Aqua and singing along to it… it was only natural that your cute daughter wanted to be on it too, hell, you even the parents of her classmates being on it too!!
As days went on, and you still had to make a decision, guilt began to settle inside you for having unwittingly made Naomi feel excluded.
You attempted to mend this by changing her school supplies to all pink, decorating her hair with pink accessories—clips, ribbons, diadems, you call it, she has it— or styling her uniform with whatever was allowed to be pink. Her school actually bent the rules to comply to the children’s wants, after being… “persuaded” by the parents to do so—talk about the privileges of being in a private institution!
It didn’t take long after that before Naoya was deeply intrigued by her daughter’s newest obsession; first it was some show she watched when she was younger, then it was zebras, and now, the color pink.
Ever the one to ignore things he considered mainstream, more so when they extended beyond his realm of interest, this caught him completely off guard; even getting the point of believing he was going mad because once he saw his daughter obsess with the color, he began to see it everywhere.
It was in Naomi’s school supplies, her clothes, even bedroom, everywhere he glanced, pink was in. Sure, by that point he was really intrigued to know the reason behind this craze, but it still wasn’t enough for him to ask.
If that’s what his baby wanted to be happy, then he’ll oblige. He wasn’t like those parents that didn’t have money to subsidy their children’s interests, so he was for sure not going to act like one.
His curiosity would only get the best of him one night when laying beside you in bed.
Naoya had other plans in mind for the night, which were quickly foiled upon seeing you hyper focused on nothing but your phone, scrolling through endless and endless pages of stores, social media, and articles, all relating to the cause behind his wonder: Barbie.
“What are you doing, Y/N?” he’d finally relent after minutes and minutes of being ignored, resting his head over your shoulder and draping an arm over your waist. “Surely your phone can’t be much more interesting that me.”
“No, of course not” You smirk, getting into a more comfortable position so he could see what you were looking at. “But I have to this first, or I won’t be able to sleep!”
“Is that what’s keeping you up at night?” you sigh.
“It’s Naomi—she wants to see the movie, but I don’t know if it’s the right thing.”
“What’s this?” he smirks “You? Telling her no? That’s a first.”
“And it hurts me to do it!” You pout, he kisses your cheek.
“Then what’s stopping you?”
“Because the movie is actually much deeper than I thought, and I don’t know if our pumpkin is ready for that.”
“What the hell can a movie about dolls talk about?” he scoffs, voicing the same thought you had when seeing the rating.
“Very interesting topics, actually.” you explain, and he raises his eyebrows. “Social topics”
“Oh”
“Yeah, and I don’t know if she’s ready for them yet” you sigh again, before turning off your phone and putting it to the side, finally allowing you to snuggle against Naoya, who didn’t hesitate to move in a way that allowed your head to rest on his chest.
“I don’t recall ever worrying about those things when I was her age, but I guess it can only go two ways” you say.
“Which are…?”
“She either learns from this or is horrified by it!” you shrill “And I don’t want to scare her! If only could know what kind of reaction she’ll have beforehand!!”
“Why don’t you watch the movie first before deciding whether to take her or not?” he suggests, and at that moment, like the sun breaking the horizon, a new opportunity opens before you.
“That’s it! That’s exactly what I could do! And once I see it with my own eyes, I can debate whether it’s suitable for her or not” you look up to him, eyes glistening with excitement. “How about it, hm? Shall we go to the movies, like we used to back in the day?”
Naoya hesitates, for he doesn’t want to be seen watching that movie, but your pleading eyes, the same one Naomi uses when she wants something, as well as the cause behind it, gets through him, and soon finds himself complying to your demands—not like he didn’t do so anyways, but truly, you and his daughter have him wrapped around their finger.
“Alright” he murmurs with a pout. “I Guess I could clear up my schedule and go.”
You giggle, admiring how he loves to play hard to get, as if he wouldn’t drop everything for his family.
It’s quite charming, cute even, and you feel so lucky that only you can see that side of him. Although you wished he’d be a bit more open with Naomi…
“I knew I could trust you to clear up my mind” you smile, snuggling further against him. “My dear husband.”
“I’m glad I was of help, but…” he begins slowly, one of his hands sliding further and further down your body. “I know another way to clear up your mind, I can show you if you’d like.”
You bite your lower lip, face flustered as you around, wrapping your arms around his shoulders.
“Well, we can’t be too sure.”
You end up buying tickets for a showing two the days after, the day Naoya took off to go with you—it’s one of the perks of being so high up the chain in his job, he doesn’t need to give explanations or why he’s not going to work, he can just do it and that’s it.
Doesn’t mean his co-workers won’t inquire about it, more so when his day off was in the most random of dates.
Knowing this, the two end up going to a theater of his choosing, far away from the ones he considered busy, but still up to his standards, and of course, with extra cautionary steps to avoid being followed by his pesky relatives, and subsequently recognized.
“Naoya, honey, this is too much.” You’d say when walking towards the entrance, hand-in-hand with your husband. “Don’t you think we’re… attracting too much attention like this?”
Naoya wanted to go undercover, discreetly as possible so as to avoid suspicions, although his definition of discreet greatly varied from one another.
While you decided to wear a pair of jeans, and a comfortable pink hoodie (gotta follow the trend)… Naoya decided to go full on… well, he looked good, that’s all you’re going to say.
“What? Just because we’re going undercover doesn’t mean we’re going to do it… like that” he says, referring to an unsuspecting movie-goer and their… seemingly underdressed appearance. You gently elbowed him. He groans.
“Don’t be rude” you scold. “Besides, we’re standing out too much.”
You tried to be solidary to his appearance by wearing a pair of black shades, but now that you compare yourself to literally everyone else, it looks like you’re both part of the Men in Black.
“Then what do you suggest?” he asks, rubbing his arm where it still hurts.
“Lose the glasses” you suggest with a pout. “We look like total weirdos going into a building with them…”
“Hey, you agreed to it.”
“I mean, that was before we got here. It’s not my fault I just realized how silly we look” you say, swiftly taking off your glasses and placing them on their respective case before putting them away. “There, much better—besides, you’re too handsome to be hiding behind them!”
“That’s what it was, eh?” Naoya smirks, taking off his glasses; you grab them. “You just wanted to see me.”
You blush.
“And what about it?” you look away. “It’s been a while since we’ve gone out on a date just the two of us… not that I mind going out with Naomi, but… you know… it’s not the same.”
He sighs, giving you a smile before pulling your hand to his lips and kissing it. “I promise to go out more with you—just the two of us.”
Your heart flutters.
“I’d like that.”
After promises were made, you and Naoya go ahead to check in, deciding to buy popcorn and a drink—at first your husband said he didn’t want anything, saying something about a diet or so, but after getting a taste he succumbed to them immediately.
Once finding your seats and getting comfortable, the movie finally begins.
There isn’t much commentary to give at the beginning, outside of laughing at some of the silly scenes (mainly on your part, Naoya just scoffs) and how suddenly dark it gets from time to time. But outside of that, you and Naoya seem to think of the movie as… well, adequate for their daughter, nothing extraordinary, it certainly has the silliness she enjoys, making them wonder why it even got that PG-13 rating…
Until, of course, “real world” part; that’s when you and Naoya understand why many people thought this movie might be inappropriate for younger children.
There’s a lot of topics most kids don’t even fathom yet, ones that need the appropriate guidance of a caring adult, so they know how to handle them when they reach certain maturity.
It doesn’t take long before you and Naoya began to envision how confused Naomi was going to be upon seeing Barbie getting catcalled, kicked out of her house, the sudden change of behavior from the rest of the Barbie’s, and overall, the dilemma Ken has regarding his relationship with her.
But most importantly, the main point of the movie: existential crisis.
While Naomi would most definitely not understand that, or any of the past points, you and Naoya would feel the movie to be hitting “a bit too close to home” having been forced to reflect on these issues in the past as the young adults they were, either for their own individualism, careers, or their future as a couple…
Soon, they no longer worried how this would affect Naomi, but rather, how it spoke to them.
And by the time screening ended, lights turned on abruptly and revealing your and Naoya’s response to it: teary eyed, soaked cheeks, and speechless.
Your husband was quick to cover his face, putting his glasses on before anyone else got to see him in that state, whilst cursing how “there’s no respect nowadays” as he dried the tears on his cheek. You, on the other hand, simply wiped the tears out of your face, careless if anyone else saw you like that because first, it was a darn good movie, so yeah, you cried because of it. And secondly, you weren’t the only one crying in that room so who cares…
It's only until they get into the car that they realize one of the messages of the movie, at least the one they could relate to the most: their baby girl was growing.
In a few years, she’d be a teenager, bringing along all the struggles that come with such age, and then, a woman. One that will have to face the world on her own—because even if they will always be there to support her, there are some battles only she could take.
No one ever said raising a child was easy, less in a society as harsh as the one they lived in, but even with all their fears, it was something both still looked forward to. To create memories together, guide her through this difficult thing called life, and see Naomi grow into the wonderful person she was bound to become.
Getting the overwhelming need to see their daughter, you and Naoya skipped the rest of their plans and headed straight back home, where Naomi was eagerly waiting for them alongside her nanny.
The child was undeniably happy to see her parents back home, always did, but at this moment she couldn’t be anything but surprised when Naoya was the first one to rush to her, picking her up in her arms and giving her the tightest hug he could without hurting her.
“What’s wrong, papa?” Naomi would eventually ask upon feeling his hug go uncharacteristically longer than it usually does, as if him hugging her wasn’t weird on its own.
“Uh—nothing.” Naoya would say, doing his best to hide the tears in his eyes and the tremble in his voice. “Can’t I hug my princess?”
And while she’s never one to deny affection, Naomi can’t stop herself from looking at you perplexedly, as if seeking the answers of her confusion from you.
But you only reassure her with a smile, walking towards them and joining their hug. It’s then that Naomi concedes to simply accept her parent’s doting, nuzzling against Naoya as she reciprocates the hug, as much as her small arms could.
“How about we go out to eat?” Naoya suggests, looking at her with a smile. “We can go anywhere you want, pumpkin.”
Her eyes twinkle, for it’s no secret she’d been waiting for the perfect moment to suggest this place—not like she needed to, but she likes to organize her dates. You and Naoya chuckle, kissing her on the cheek, each on one side, a gesture that makes her blush out of embarrassment.
It’s safe to say that after careful consideration, both decided to take Naomi to watch Barbie, dressed up in the cutest, pinkest, most adorable outfit you could put together—with you and Naoya to match along, although more discreetly in your husband’s part, he still doesn’t get the pink trend, less when he was suddenly called Ken.
And as expected, the movie was a total success to Naomi, although there were moments where she’d look confused, but those were nothing compared to the ones where she’d laugh out loud.
Overall, it was a movie she greatly enjoyed, even with the confusions that came along: ones that both you and Naoya were prepared for, having long understood this could be the perfect opportunity to introduce to her.
She’ll understand half of it, perhaps even less than that, but it didn’t matter, for both were ready to support and guide her through every step, like the good parents they swore to be the moment her existence was announced—and that’ll never change. Even after the Barbie craze ends, when Naomi grows and no longer lives with them, they’ll never stop loving and supporting her.

Extra:
“How was your week—” Ranta freezes mid-greeting when something… peculiar catches his sight.
“What?” Naoya asks, not bothering to glance up from the paperwork he’s supposed to finish before the day ends.
“Is that—is that a pink tie?” he says, taking a closer look at the pastel pink garment contrasting against his black suit.
“Got a problem with it?” Naoya sternly responds. One subtle gesture is sufficient to have Ranta immediately retract.
“No, of course not!” he shrieks, nervously waving his hands. “It’s just— it’s just different. It looks good on you though!”
“I know” your husband groans, eyes still intently looking onto his desk… before eventually lifting his gaze towards Ranta, cheeks slightly flustered. “…I just got it; do you think Naomi will like it?”
“Huh?” Ranta blinks, Naoya frowns. “Oh, I mean, yes! I’m sure she’ll appreciate it!”
It’s a sentence that makes a smile break through Naoya’s lips as he glances back down to his work, satisfied.
“I’m glad” He match to see the look on his baby’s face once back home, after all, he just bought a bunch of clothes to match with her.

A/N: not me making Naoya cry and cover it up with his shades lol. Ah, he's truly devoted to his family.

“Devotion” - Posting on Monday, July 3
Author: FriendofCarlotta ( @friendofcarlotta )  Artist: Bees ( @xiejie-liubo ) Rating: Explicit Featured characters: Dean, Cas, Naomi Featured relationships: Dean/Cas Length: 29,295 words Tags:  Inspired by The Terminator (1984), Mutual Pining, Actor Dean, Fallen Angel Castiel, Happy Ending
Summary: In a future where Earth has been devastated by angels, the seraph Castiel has rebelled and joined the human resistance led by Dean Winchester. Humanity is on the verge of victory when the angels conceive a final, desperate plan: they will send an assassin twenty years into the past — to kill Dean before he can become a threat. Low on grace, Castiel nevertheless volunteers to travel back in time to save Dean’s life. As he gets to know this younger Dean, his carefully constructed walls come tumbling down, unleashing a love that Castiel has kept a secret for years.
Excerpt:
“You gonna tell me what the hell’s going on now?” Dean asked. The question came out sharp, tension still running like a live wire beneath his skin.
“I’m here to help you. You’ve been targeted for assassination,” Castiel said, and Dean damn near ran Baby off the road and into the lot of a used car dealer. An SUV passed them, honking.
“What the fuck? Why? I haven’t done anything.”
“Not yet, but you will. Twenty years from now, you’re a formidable general, commanding an army that’s on the verge of victory in a war against angels. I’m one of your lieutenants. The angel who was sent to assassinate you is…” A beat of hesitation, so short it was barely noticeable. “Naomi. Seraph first class. Same as me, but unlike me, she’s at full power, so—”
Dean hit the brakes, pulling to an abrupt stop and drawing outraged honks from two cars just behind him. “Get out.”
Castiel gaped at him, caught halfway through whatever batshit thing he’d been about to say next. “What?”
“Get the fuck out of my car.”
Instead of doing as he was told, Castiel crossed his arms and glared. “No.”
This, Dean could deal with: confrontation. Aggression. Something real to push back against. “The hell do you mean, ‘no’? How about I fucking make you?”
Castiel turned his eyes toward Baby’s ceiling, as if looking for help up there. “I know this is difficult to understand, Dean, but I need you to have faith that what I’m telling you is the truth.”
“Right.” Dean lunged forward, fisting a hand in Castiel’s shirt.
He pulled back his other arm and threw a punch.

Excerpt from Chapter 22 under the cut
The caped stranger ran through the dark tunnel much too fast for them to keep up. It was only thanks to Jack's angelic senses that he saw the man come to a stop somewhere ahead. He managed to prevent Mary from crashing into the wall with a warning hand against her shoulder. A quiet curse near them meant John hadn't been spared from that fate.
A light appeared, and Jack saw that the stranger held a small flashlight between his teeth while drawing another one of those chalk sigils. The outline of a door appeared in the wall of the tunnel, and a short press of the man's hand sufficed for it to open outwards.
One after the other, they stumbled out into the blinding brightness of someone's heaven on a sunny beach. The ocean was impressive and slightly intimidating with its size and the crashing waves. Jack had only ever seen such a large body of water in the split second it had taken him to fly across it in his frenzied escape from his own guilt. Standing right in front of these massive plains of blue reaching all the way to the horizon was on a different level entirely.
"Close the damned door if you got any sense!" the stranger called out to them and Jack turned hastily to press the door closed behind John, watching it merge seamlessly into a changing cubicle.
The man didn't wait to see if they complied, already running further ahead through rows of white sun chairs and colorful parasols.
"Doctor Badass, wait!" Jack yelled, attracting the attention of a woman who must have been the owner of this heaven.
"Who the fuck are you people?" she asked them, sitting up on her sun chair. "You're ruining my vibe here."
Jack noticed only then how much they stood out on this beach, fully dressed among people in swimwear, running when everyone else was just lounging and relaxing.
"I'm sorry. We'll stop ruining… your vibe. We were just leaving," he hurried to explain, throwing a look at Mary and John behind him. Mary seemed confused, John annoyed, but the caped stranger didn't slow down, so Jack had no choice but continue their frenzied run.
They caught up with him in front of a wooden booth selling ice cream, where the man was creating another one of his strange chalk doors on the side wall. He waved them inside and they were once more surrounded by darkness.
"All right, enough of this nonsense! Who or what are we running from?" John asked, his voice echoing in the silence of the tunnel.
"Jack, you said Dean is hurt? Where is he?" Mary talked over him, and the worry in her voice was audible.
Jack never had a chance to reply to either of these questions, though, because Doctor Badass cut him off.
"Listen, there's a time for answers, but this ain't it. Gotta shake off the God Squad before they can track us to Homebase."

Some fun observations about the scene:
They stopped for food at an adorable dog-theme diner called "Skipper's Beach Cafe"
Which....BEACH. The ghost of happiness -> toes-in-the-sand beach!
Anyway, it's adorable that they're lost, but it's also a little sad that the very act of getting lost is what led them...to the symbolic beach.
But wait! On the other hand, the specter of this beach COULD BE a false beach promise, symbolizing that whole "checking out and running away" temptation
When viewed as such, it makes SAM's proximity to Skipper's Beach Diner / Miracle / False Salvation a little disturbing, especially when viewed with the 15x20 finale in mind; it could be a figment
It could be read either way, that SAM's the only one who finds salvation by becoming lost and not adhering to a plan; OR (since Sam's app sucks) it's a danger sign, that Sam's off-road "checking out" is being led to a false dream. Apps tend to give instructions and steps, but maps must be interpreted in a spatial context
This would imply that Dean/Cas + Jack are actually the ones finding their footing here (at this moment in time in the story, anyways)
But back to cute things: Sam's phone app sucks ass & he's not happy about it
Sam is even whining about it, which makes me think that his whining in 12x12 Stuck in the Middle (With You) is totally a legit thing that Sam does often, because Jack has no reason to exaggerate here (God bless my annoying, tall man-child)
In this memory, Cas gets associated with maps, as he pulls an old-school map from the glove compartment and hands it over to Dean
(Cas is often associated to maps; he is the navigator-commander to Dean's captain-of-the-course to Sam's field marshal)
Cas is that holy North Star, the symbolic "North is up"
He's the thing that the boys put their faith in; a family protector; "angelic defender"; the thing that grounds Dean in particular
We see this dynamic again later, in 13x21 Beat the Devil. That is, Dean & Cas, as a UNIT, get the bearings for the group:
DEAN (snapping into business mode): Yeah. Thought we’d get spit out in the same spot, but this isn’t it. All right, well Charlie -- the other Charlie -- said that Mary and Jack have an outpost in Dayton. SAM: Okay. Let’s get our bearings and head that way. Cas, where are we? CAS (closing his eyes and concentrating): Uh, Kentucky. Northeast Kentucky. Or what used to be Kentucky. DEAN (looking at the sky then pointing): Which means that’s north. Okay, so Dayton’s that way. Roughly. Two days by foot but...that way. SAM: All right. [The group begins to move towards where Dean pointed.]
In AU earth, in later episodes, Cas even draws a map for them to reference as they go; Cas is keeping them grounded
Overall, Cas helps Dean get his bearings, and together, they help the group get their bearings (especially when Sam's way isn't working--in 13x06’s case, the app).
So, in 13x06, after Cas hands Dean the map, Dean is calm, maybe even grounded for the first time since Cas died.
Immediately, Dean begins teaching Jack to "read a map," perhaps taking on the role as PARENT TO JACK for the very first time (Jack and Dean have known each other ~20-25 days at this point). Dean is passing down the legacy of wayfinding.
Side note: Jack is shown gobbling down a burger, the thing that CAS loves in 5x14 My Bloody Valentine, and the thing that Dean makes, even as late as 15x14 Last Holiday (specifically with the goal of getting Jack out of his room):
SAM: What’s with the apron? DEAN: Burgers! But the pilot light keeps going out. It’s like the third time this week. Between that and the hot water, I thought this place was supposed to be state-of-the-art. SAM: It was, in the 50’s. DEAN: Hhm. Ah, Jack come out of his room yet?
Here in the 13x06 scene, when Jack crams the burger in, Dean nags him.
It's a contrasting callback to their first real "meeting" in 13x02 ("You can slow down, you know. That stuff’s not gonna disappear.")
The warning against eating too much, too fast, is a nod to parental nagging, sure, and that's cute.
But it's also tacitly associating Jack to overconsumption, which a key motif to both his Nephil-status and status as a rival, Usurper-God (not to mention, his zombie obsession):
[in Jack’s Heaven, working the case from 13x06 Tombstone, Jack gobbles a burger while the rest of TFW stand by Baby researching their route to Dodge City with their food laid out on the car’s hood. Sam is in the background on his phone] DEAN: Jack, take it easy. You don't have to cram it all in at once, right? SAM: Still no signal. DEAN: Yeah, 'cause I told you, that app blows. CAS [emerging from the car with a map]: I found this in the glove compartment. DEAN: Ah! Old school! A real map. Let's find our way to Dodge City. C'mere, Jack. I'm gonna teach you how to read a map. So, rule number one-- rule number one-- rule number one-- JACK: Dean? DEAN: North is usually up. [the sun appears to flicker on and off, and Jack looks up at the sky] JACK: Something's wrong. [Jack leaves his personal heaven and wanders out into the stark white hallway of Heaven, where the lights are also flickering. A tidal wave of black goo fills the hallway and chases after him as he runs away.]
He's recalling Dean specifically here, in order to get his bearings. He's using the wayfinding skills symbolically gifted to him by Dean & Cas.
It gives more weight to Dean & Cas in the prior scene, because this skill allows Jack to see the truth (about Heaven, about The Empty).

just played thru Goodbye Volcano High finally, to completion
Tumblr media
here's me thoughts, under a spoiler block just like i did for after i beat Snoot Game
story flows nicely from start to finish, though i feel like a tiiiiny bit could have been trimmed cus it did feel a bit too long for playing through
affinity system is cool, feel like i hadn't seen people dig into that one as much as they should've. i was unable to get the Rosa gender reveal sequence cus i didnt max out her stuffs BUT they still throw in moments prior that telegraph it very much so so that's still something!
gorgeous backgrounds, absolutely zero complaints about any of them. while the characters animations can be a tad bit stiff at times, i feel like i can still most of the time realistically imagine them within the scenes properly
i understand you had to have 3 L&L segments for it to make sense as a DnD sessions sort of thing but,, i didnt like the segments in general. i feel like you could have still explored Reed's character without dedicating far too much time to these
music for the rhythm game segments is definitely NOT my personal taste, so i cant rlly say much about the content that wouldn't be heavily biased. i feel like also the controls were a bit too complicated, especially on keyboard. perhaps it couldve been easier to play on a controller but like,, visually there's still way way way too much to keep track of so it gets overwhelming at times. also very very hard to focus on the scenes going on while trying to play the rhythm segments, and i feel like that hurts the final one with the montage
Naomi and Fang is a match made in Heaven, what else is to say? jumps the gun a wee bit but idk i kind of like that shit and i do that for me own characters at time. wishing those two the best in dino heaven
was not expecting Fang to be so selfish throughout the entire game, it's genuinely a bit jarring at times. the way it's patched up in the end feels a bit too rushed, but then again i said the game felt a bit too long so no idea what the solution would be
Swamp Babies i wish u got more screentime, but i digress. Curtis having no voice let alone dialogue was a bummer
i hope they keep patching it cus i did get softlocked multiple times and there were many times where backgrounds failed to load in for a bit during many scenes ;w;
fave characters from this iteration gotta be Stella, Sage and Reed. funnily enough, two of their iterations in Snoot Game are also a delight! sad to see Sage didnt make the latter cut aside from positive text messagez
the logo and poster design stuff paired with the picture day sequence were pretty cool!
not a fan of the twitter stuff in-game just cus i loathe the real life equivalent, sorry ;w;
all in all now that i've done a full single run for both games (i am not replaying either, this is too much of a time commitment for a narrative-heavy experience), i think i can say i give Snoot Game a 9/10 rating and Goodbye Volcano High a 6/10
pleasantly happy with both, despite any complaints or criticisms! looking forward to drawing more fanart of both series too, as well as having a blast hanging out in discords with folks from either communities. met some good people in a cruel world

A Mendell Christmas: Part Two
Tumblr media
A/N: I meant to have this up so much sooner! The end of the year was far busier than I expected. And because I had to take care of some personal things, my writing became a low priority. Thankfully, I finally have time to sit down again.
This Christmas project became far longer than I expected (I still have one more part to post). When I finished this part, I hesitated to share it because it didn't feel exciting or interesting. It felt too cheesy. But then I remembered how much I used to write when I was younger. And how much I used to just want to have fun. So, I've decided that's what all my posts on this Tumblr will be: simple fun. The characters might be all over the place, the dialogue might sound weird, and there probably won't be any real plot. But I want a space to have fun again. Writing as a job has been a blessing but it's not my escape anymore. I miss it being my escape.
So, for the year ahead I want to post random writing on this blog! Stories, shorts, and snapshots of characters that may or may not be in my published books. This is my sandbox. My place for quiet moments with the characters I love. I hope you enjoy this quiet moment with Finn and Sam. I had so much fun being back in their heads and spending more time with them.
Happy New Year! I hope 2024 brings you everything you desire. I hope you enjoy these small moments too.
(Also apologies for any inaccuracies! I'm Florida-born & raised, I don't know how frozen lake fishing works and didn't want to do research for such a small piece of writing lol)
Finn
“We’re going on a road trip,” Sam said as he joined me in the kitchen.
“When?” I stirred sugar into Naomi’s morning tea.
“As soon as you get your shoes on,” he said.
I looked up, noting how he was already dressed. “Are we in a hurry?”
“Oh yeah.” Sam glanced at the time on his phone. “Should have left here an hour ago.”
“You’re not going to get everyone else ready on such a tight schedule. You know Henrik’s going to need at least an hour to make food to pack.”
“Well it’s a good thing they’re not invited, isn’t it?”
I raised my brow at Sam’s smile. It’s the first time I’ve seen his smile reach his eyes since Aderyn asked for space and time. There’s a lightness to his energy. An excitement I’ve been trying to draw out of him for weeks. I kept failing over and over until disappointment became an all too familiar feeling.
Being there for Naomi felt like putting on custom-made skates with the blades perfectly sharpened for a smoothed rink surface. When trying to comfort the guys, I was in secondhand skates, trying to stay upright on an uneven, frozen lake.
Maybe today could be different. Sam was already primed for a good time. All I had to do was lean in and try to summon a bit of old Finn energy. Some part of me must remember how to be a good friend to him. If not, I'd learn. I'd already learned how to talk to people again…kind of.
“What’s the destination?” I asked while topping off Naomi’s drink with oat milk.
“A trip down memory lane,” Sam said. “It’s my not-so-secret Santa gift.”
My stomach jumped, curiosity making me more alert. I’d been vehemently against learning about my past earlier this semester. But after finding my own rhythm and becoming more confident in the person I was now, I couldn’t help but harbor a bit of wonder about what I’d left behind. What memories I’d once shared now only belonged to one person.
“That cool with you?” Sam asked just in case. “It’s fine if not. I know you’ve been hesitant but figured—or maybe hoped—you were more comfortable with it now that things seem to be better for you. You're more settled.”
“Umm…” My mind was trying to catch up to everything.
“I got a far more traditional gift option as a plan B,” Sam offered.
“No, I mean, yeah, I’m cool with that. With the memory lane,” I said quickly. My curiosity evolved into nerves. What if I didn’t like it and that fucked up his mood again? I wasn’t good at faking happiness. Hell, I was barely good at expressing happiness even when it was genuine.
“Relax,” Sam said gently. “If you hate it we’ll come right back, no questions asked.”
The muscles in my shoulders loosened a bit.
“Sound good?” he asked.
“Sounds great,” I assured.
Sam
Whenever Finn was keeping something to himself, he became an excessive throat clearer. Even after his accident that hadn’t changed. On the ride out of town, I listened to his symphony of nerves. And let him go on until I decided to throw him a line.
“It’s a good memory,” I promised and smiled over at him. “If that does anything to help your anxiety.”
Finn grunted, pretending to be more interested in whatever he was doing on his phone.
“A memory that'll make you feel all fuzzy and warm,” I teased. "Like the teddy bear, you truly are thanks to Naomi."
He rolled his eyes. “That so?”
“Yup.” I put on my turning signal, pulling off of the busy highway.
Finn and I used to be inseparable when we were in middle school. As we got older we were far less codependent but still close. Close enough for it to sting like hell when I realized he wasn’t going to remember most of what we’d been through.
Sometimes, when I looked at Finn, I saw the guy who used to sneak me an extra Jello in the lunch room because he knew how rough the first half of my day was. Sometimes I saw the hothead who’d threaten anyone who hurt me even though most of the time he was far outnumbered. Sometimes I saw the guy who told me I’d be the best choice for captain despite my then doubts. Those parts of him were still there and alive. So even if the parts of him we shared were forever gone, I found comfort in those memories.
“It’s not my goal to try and spark something,” I said gently. “Today is just for fun. We really loved this place. I still do and I figured you should see it and maybe…I don’t know, you might find some joy here too. What was that thing you told me about muscle memory?”
“I can always count on it.”
“Exactly. I wanted you to feel that this year. Remember you can have something to count on and a place to go if you need.”
It was quiet for a minute as I made our final turn. Finn cleared his throat once more before saying, “Thanks…for letting me know you’re not trying to trigger a memory. I like the idea of just being here…with you.”
“Look at us, a couple of assholes with hearts. What have Naomi and Aderyn done to us…?” My mood shifted slightly at my mention of Aderyn. I chewed on my bottom lip, hoping Finn didn’t sense my brief dip in energy. Unfortunately, he’s getting better at reading between the lines.
“I don’t know how to get you to talk about it,” Finn confessed. “I’m sure there was a method I used before.”
“It’s fine,” I said quickly. “I usually mope around until one of you guys gets pissed enough to drag it out of me. You weren’t the only one to try and help.”
“I know but…I was your person, right? Your main person.”
My main person. That’d shifted over the years. I bounced between all the guys. And now, Aderyn was in that mix. She could have probably been at the center of it if things hadn’t gotten so twisted.
“You still are.” I pulled into a parking spot that faced the river.
“I just have to figure out how to make you talk,” he said.
“Don't stress about it too much. I'm good. Or, will be good eventually."
Finn followed my lead out of the car. He watched as I unloaded a gym bag and a couple of folding chairs from the trunk. He was quiet until he saw me check the bag for my ice pick.
“We’re not secretly murderers, are we?” he asked when he saw my stash.
I snorted. I'm sure he was joking but Finn’s deadpan delivery often left me with some uncertainty.
“Nope. Just two fishermen are about to waste their time while the sun comes up.”
Finn frowned when I tossed him the extra bag of supplies. “We’re going out there?”
His finger pointed toward the frozen lake. Snowfall had been sparse this morning. The lake would be picturesque once the sun leaked over the horizon. We were already getting a sneak peek of what the morning would have to offer, so I decided to hurry Finn up.
“Correct me if I’m wrong but we don’t feel like people who fish,” Finn called after me.
I laughed as I continued our trek forward. The snow crunched underneath my boots. “We weren’t until we met Mr. Meyers."
Finn paused for a second. "Mr. Meyers?"
I froze too, my stomach jumping with excitement. "You remember?"
"Not at all."
It was hard to mask my slight disappointment. Sometimes – when I least expected – it hurts to hold memories on my own.
"Meyers was an old guy who spent all his free time over there during the summer." I pointed to the boardwalk about a half mile away. "And around here in the winter."
I gestured to the middle of the lake. At our backs was the parking lot and to our front a dark, thick tree line that was covered in frost. It smelled like sixth grade out here, all pine needles and frozen earth.
"We met him out here when we decided we would become Boy Scouts." I unfolded the chairs and pulled out our Thermos. Henrik had enough time to force me into packing something warm to drink. I was grateful for his persistence now that the cold wind was biting at our skin. Finn let out an agreeing sigh when I offered him the Thermos.
"We were Boy Scouts?" Finn asked.
"No, not officially." I chuckled at his look of confusion. "We wanted to be but your folks couldn't afford the annual membership at the time and wouldn't accept the money from my dad."
He nodded. "I suppose I wouldn't have either. At least not now…it doesn't feel right."
"You're stubborn. Always have been, always will be," I agreed. "But I would have convinced you to take it if your parents didn't have the final say. But, anyway, we decided we'd be Boy Scouts on our own. And that meant earning badges on our own. Of course, our first attempt couldn't be something simple like learning to tie a knot. No, we wanted to fish in the dead of winter. Like someone in a post-apocalyptic Arctic landscape, as you put it – you were really into post-apocalyptic books back then."
"Was I?" Finn nodded and undoubtedly tucked that information away for later like he always did with tidbits I shared.
"Hardcore. So you had me out here hammering away at the ice with a screwdriver." I laughed at the memory of us on our hands and knees, trying to chip away the ice with runny noses and burning ears. "Mr. Meyers saw and got on us until he was blue in the face. When we finally got a word in, we let him know that we weren't trying to crack through the lake and drown. But we were trying to be resourceful members of society. He folded then and decided as a former boy scout himself, it was his job to teach us everything he knew."
Finn smiled and I motioned for him to come closer. I talked him through how Mr. Meyers showed us the way to create a clean circle in the ice. I explained how we were supposed to pick a spot where the ice was thickest and the cracks were little to non-existent.
"He made us badges," I said when we settled into our seats. "Whenever we learned something new and proved ourselves to him, he'd have these incredibly unique badges that'd he designed from scratch. The guys at school got so jealous that some of them quit the Boy Scouts and wanted to be taught under Meyers."
"Did they?"
I shook my head and pulled out our fishing rods. "Meyers wouldn't teach anyone but me and you. Said he only had enough time and energy for two pupils. And he only had enough extra cash for two sets of badges. For a moment, we were the cool kids…until people decided Boy Scouts were dorky and gaming was everything."
"Sounds like we had a lot of fun." Finn smiled. Maybe he was playing the spoken memory over in his head, trying to fill in details to construct something he'd be able to recall. Or maybe he was simply smiling because I hadn't stopped. I felt good today. Better than I had in a while and that's because I enjoyed being outside. I enjoyed the open sky, the chilled air, and being able to sit across from Finn. I loved my friends but these quiet moments with Finn were few and far between. After almost losing him, I cherished this.
"I'm sorry," I said, my smile fading when I realized what I'd done.
"Huh?" Finn frowned.
"I…I brought you here as a gift but just realized–" I sighed and ran my hand over my head. "This was more of a gift for me than you. I was being selfish bringing you here. I thought it'd be nice to get away and be like we used to but this doesn't mean much to you."
"Sam, this is good. This is fun," Finn said firmly. "I'm having fun."
The tightness in my chest loosened. "Really?"
"I'm not a good liar just yet," he reminded me with a smile.
"True." I laughed in agreement and leaned over to bait my hook. Finn did the same, listening to my instructions on how to do it. He watched me toss the line in before mimicking my motion.
"I have something else for you," I announced once our hooks had sunk. "You didn't get to earn your last badges because, like the other guys at school, you thought Boy Scouts were dorky."
"Really?" Finn's forehead furrowed as if he was disappointed in himself.
"Yeah, but I kept coming to hang out with Meyers," I said. "Got a couple more badges until he got sick."
"Is he…" Finn paused, not sure how to finish.
"He's fine," I quickly confirmed. "Lives in Florida now with his granddaughter."
Finn nodded, relieved for a man he didn't remember but would forever be tied to through me.
"I got him to send over the badges you didn't get to earn." I dug through my bag and pulled them out. I'd wrapped each one in green and red striped paper. They were misshaped and poorly taped up presents but Finn accepted them like they were precious pieces of gold.
"You can't open them yet," I reminded him. Lincoln wanted all of us to open them together. Since a fishing trip couldn't be wrapped, I figured it was best to do it before Christmas. But, the tangible gifts were to be kept for later.
"But you when do–" I shrugged and laughed, feeling silly all of a sudden. "--we could finish earning them together. Like, gradually, throughout the year when we have time. I already have mine so I could make sure to teach you how to do it. Teach you in a way I'm sure Meyers will be proud–at least, I hope. You could finally fill up your sash–even though it's probably collecting dust in your family's basement and you don't care like that. But lately, you've been really into renovating the house and you look like you used to when we were kids."
"That's why I like doing it," Finn said as he took a deep breath. "I think the muscle memory part of me liked figuring out the practical."
I smiled. "I think so too. It's a part of you."
"This was perfect, Sam. I…thank you." Finn looked back down at his badges, which now felt like pieces of himself he didn't know were missing. "I can't wait to earn these with you."
"Not too dorky anymore, is it?" I teased.
He shook his head. "Not in the slightest."
We were quiet for a moment, enjoying the sun's heat as it crawled up in the sky and the warm tea that I'd accidentally put too much sugar in. The fish never bit. Finn never remembered Meyers on his own. But none of that mattered. We were happy. We were once again on track to earn badges. Once again trying to figure shit out together.

Book Notes: Where the Dark Stands Still
Tumblr media
The adult and young adult fantasy genre has seen so many iterations of fairytale retellings. And many of us are happy to discover our favorite fairytales in inventive new frameworks and settings again and again. I finally noticed the ones I always gravitate towards have a strong Beauty and the Beast theme. From Robin McKinley’s two Beauty and the Beast retellings (Beauty and Rose Daughter, both excellent) to Uprooted by Naomi Novik, to A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer, there’s something about a girl and a sentient house and a curse just begging to be broken that I find immensely satisfying.
Enter the newest addition to my list, A. B. Poranek’s debut YA Fantasy, Where the Dark Stands Still. When Liska enters the Driada, a forest rumored to be infested with demons, it’s in search of the fabled fern flower. For Liska, the wish the flower grants is her only hope to rid herself of the magic she’s had all her life, magic considered demonic by her pious village. If she wants any chance to live a normal life, the magic must go. So Liska braves the tricksy forest and its dangerous inhabitants. But in discovering the fern flower, she also encounters its forbidding guardian, the powerful Leszy. His bargain for the flower is one year of service to him in his House Under the Rowan Tree, shrouded in decades of neglect. Liska reasons she can endure a year of servitude to be free of her magic, and makes the bargain. Of course, there’s more to the house, the Leszy, and the forest than Liska can know. A year of forced proximity brings to light many secrets, not the least of which is the true origins of the Driada itself.
As Where the Dark Stands Still draws significantly from Polish folklore, I found myself quickly out of my depth, both in pronunciation and in familiarity. I’d heard of rusalka and hearth spirits from other Slavic inspired fantasies, but the Leszy, the strzygon and many others were unknown to me. It was enjoyable to have a new-to-me framework paired with elements of Beauty and the Beast. And beyond that, Poranek’s writing was filled with delightful moments of wry humor and wisdom, not to mention a simmering romantic thread. It was a pleasure to watch Liska comes into deeper knowledge of herself and her inner strength. For those of you looking for a reading experience with no cliff hangers or loose ends, Where the Dark Stands Still is that rare thing in YA Fantasy these days: a standalone novel. It is the perfect read for fantasy lovers to curl up with during these rainy evenings!

An art thing from twitter that I had a bit of fun doing.
Favourite OC: Yes, Queenie is my favourite OC at the moment. [All my other OCs collectively sigh at this terrible choice.]
First OC: Pansy sure has changed over time, but she was the first character I remember creating and later roleplaying as, before I even knew what roleplaying was (although Enchantica and Firefox are from that era too). Cats were easier to draw than humans, but I still quickly developed a human 'form' for her. Pansy's not a cat in any way anymore, but she still likes them a lot...
Latest OC: Naomi isn't technically the 'latest' in terms of character concepts I've come up with, but she's the latest finalized design. Not a character with a very story-important role, but I've recently been striving to characterise Queenie's staff (Dawn, Bastian, Leto, Shock, Banks, etc.) They're people with paying jobs, after all, not just worker drones.
Easiest to Draw OC: Comparatively! Bloosh can still be quite challenging to draw as I think about changing aspects of his design and never fully commit. Also, he's a cat with blubber, which can make for challenging poses - but he's still the easiest if I don't count Ben or Jim! (They're fancharacters.)
Hardest to draw OC: I find Bluebell hard to draw for multiple reasons. Her Magical Girl form doesn't have an outfit I'm happy with, so it changes every time I draw it, and it's hard to decide on casual clothes for someone that's way older than they look. I'm never too happy with how I draw her super long ponytail, either, and wings are just hard to draw in general. So ... hardest, yeah.
The artist: It's me! I don't actually draw at a desk, this is a creative liberty.

Am I working? Technically yes. Did I watch this entire game with laser focus. Also yes.
USWNT v England
Okay. Let’s start off with the positives.
All the hype with England murdering us? Didn’t happen. Did we have a large personnel change and a stretch of less competitive games while England solidified themselves and won a fuckin Euro? Yeah. And I don’t think they were exponentially better than us. It was a good fight.
Rodman, Coffey, and Girma showed they can absolutely hold their own. ESPECIALLY NAOMI. We all have eyeballs. We saw her come in clutch time and time again. The way she handled the ball, the decisions she made, her ability to beat Hemp. So so good.
And credit to Mace for keeping composure post PK call. I am weak and that would have broken me
Sophia scored. And had an amazing game.
I think Andi had her best national team showing I’ve seen. She was winning balls and pushing things forward in a way that made me so happy.
AND. Big high point. We had something I genuinely don’t think I’ve seen since the great Christen Press goal that never was… the combination passes are back. That shit speaks to chemistry and connection and the amount of plays we had like that…. Like, FINALLY. Pinoe, Lindsey, Rose, Sofia, Sophia, Trin. All were part of those moments.
AND AND. CRYSTAL DUNN. BACK. ❤️
On the constructive criticism side (because, you know, we can do that while still thinking all players deserve to be there and are phenomenal footballers.)
Honestly, I might compliment sandwich these because, POSITIVITY ALWAYS
Lindsey and Rose. Becoming such leaders as they suddenly the olds. They were both holding onto the ball too long. With 2-3 blatant plays where they needed to rip it or pass to our numerous open players and they… didn’t do it. And idk why Linds is gonna bother weight lifting if she’s gonna let herself get knocked over so easily. (There are times to draw the foul of COURSE, but not 95% of the time.) HOWEVER. The defensive work rate in the midfield was lovely and a lot of the pokes and needed clearances were done by them. And Lindsey’s pick pocket to the Soph goal, hellll yeah.
Set pieces. Should have been better. By a lot. Dare I say I miss Jill era set pieces. (Not Jill, just the set pieces)
This was not Alana’s game. England had her number for sure. Again, not gonna nitpick. It was pretty clear. Onto the next. It’s OKAY.
Sending good vibes out to Emily Fox’s HEAD. Didn’t she just have a concussion?? Hate that x 1000.
Oh. And Vlatko’s subbing stays fucking confusing but cool for Alyssa Thompson to get her first cap!!
The end

Since you mentioned that Williamson would probably launch a Superman ongoing. How do you imagine his run would look like?
Well I called it, not that it was a hard thing to predict:
Tumblr media
Looks pretty much exactly what I expected. All the classic elements get plenty of focus, Lois is back at the Daily Planet, Clark will be going up against a bunch of classic villains - Parasite is the villain of the first arc, seems Livewire, Bizarro, and Silver Banshee won't be far behind - classic supporting cast members like Jimmy Olsen will be getting used, and there may be either some new faces or revamps of old ones. That cop with the pony tail in the upper right might be a new take on Inspector (Commissioner?) Henderson. Williamson is at his best when he's focused on one character and just doing fun superhero adventures instead of trying to write big events or copy Morrison. Robin and Flash delivered that for me and were enjoyable, he should bring a similar level of quality here. If nothing else the use of classic Superman Rogues who haven't gotten attention in a while like Livewire, Silver Banshee, and Bizarro get points with me, I don't expect him to write the definitive Parasite arc, but if he can at least provide entertaining Superman stories featuring classic Superman Rogues I'll be happy.
Kaminski (head editor for the Superbooks) hinted on Twitter that Zod was going to play an important role in the Superbooks next year. Given Williamson already used him once for Batman/Superman - his use there of Zod was good - I wouldn't be surprised if he uses him again here. Perhaps Zod is the figure in shadow if it isn't teasing a new Superman Rogue. I've long wanted Zod to fill the Ra's role in Superman's Rogues Gallery and Williamson did position him as that, if he is writing Zod I hope he continues to develop that characterization for him.
Obviously Campbell's art is gorgeous, but does anyone really think he's going to last long on a monthly ongoing? Naomi and Far Sector really struggled to come out on time, if Campbell can do just one arc I'll be happy. Dragotta is a good artist too, but I don't know if he's fast enough to do a monthly these days. I'll enjoy their time on Superman regardless, can't wait to see them draw the villains!
Now for the rest...

New Superbook lineup?
First DC panel thus far to actually talk about the big plans for 2023. Honestly I'm pleased overall with the news that was shared.
Tumblr media
Action is becoming a Superfamily book with PKJ continuing to write the main feature, which will still be standard issue length. Lineup is Clark, Kara, Conner, Kenan, Jon, Natasha, and the two Phaelosians from Warworld that Superman adopted: Osul and Othul. Ever since Detective Comics became a Batfamily book during Rebirth I've been wanting to see someone try and do the same for the Superfamily. Metallo is going to be the main villain for the first arc starting in Action 1051, and seeing Metallo be a threat strong enough to challenge the entire Superfamily has me hyped. Loved how PKJ has written the book up till now, hopefully this switch doesn't cause him to struggle. If he does a good job he'll be delivering sorely needed development to Superman's Rogues and his Family, two areas I've long been begging to see more attention given.
Tumblr media
It's a small detail but I love that Kenan still has his white and black yin-yang s-shield underneath his jacket. Everyone looks good to me, although perhaps Nat should just change the color of her armor rather than wear a hoodie. And PKJ finally gets an artist who is both good and fast! Sandoval hasn't had trouble meeting a monthly schedule so Action should finally have an artist who can draw consecutive issues. Just need DC not to poach another artist from PKJ for their events, first Sampere then Federeci, go find another book to swipe artists from!
Two backups are being added, Jurgens writing kid Jon stories set in the past and Leah Williams writing Power Girl. Jurgens Lois and Clark was my favorite thing he's done since the Triangle Era, but this sounds boring. Doombreaker (aka Doomsday with four arms instead of two) is not a villain who is attracting my interest, PKJ already brought back Conduit Jurgens, you've said repeatedly you were going to tell a Conduit story after Action 1000 if you got to stay. Go tell that story instead of something conceptually dull as Doomsday 2.0. No opinion on Williams, her Trial of Magneto was terrible but her Mary Jane series was entertaining, I think PG will be a good fit for her, and there's always Johns' JSA if not.
Tumblr media
Superman: Son of Kal-El is ending with issue 18 and DC is launching a new Adventures of Superman: Jon Kent 6-issue miniseries where Jon will fight Ultraman and meet Val-Zod. Taylor was claiming he was writing post-Kal-El Returns SSOKE issues a while back on Twitter, so I assume that DC is taking what he had planned for future issues and just doing it as a mini in hopes of increasing sales. My hunch is that this mini will mark the end of Taylor's time with Jon, and he'll either depart the Superman sphere entirely or go do a Val-Zod mini, since all he really cares about is using Jon's book to spotlight his OCs. I want it to flop so he'll be done for good, he's done jack shit to establish Jon outside of his bisexuality, countless other more pressing developments need to be done for Jon to really stand on his own as a hero, but of course Taylor would rather bring in his successor to Superman and try to push Val one last time over actually developing Jon as a character.
Saw that yet again you have people theorizing this is going to end with a version of kid Jon returning or Jon being deaged and at this point I don't even care if that happens. Taylor completely squandered the opportunity Jon represented, long as Val-Zod fucks off back home to Earth 2 and Taylor doesn't try to keep him on the main Earth then fine, whatever, you lot can have your kid Jon back. Completely wasted the potential he offered, might as well reset him back to default. I don't think that's happening, Othul and Osul are filling the kid role for Clark and Lois, plus there might be that Legacy League book coming yet. If it does I don't even care anymore. There's one ray of hope for me even now: Waid, Yang, Watters and PKJ might be writing him soon.
Tumblr media
Coming up after Dark Crisis, we have the Lazarus Planet event. Waid has a good track record with weekly events - 52, the No Surrender trilogy - and the supporting writing lineup looks great: Yang, PKJ, Watters, and more. No Multiverse bullshit and any of those guys writing Jon will be an improvement over Taylor. Given this is where Jon is getting his electric blue powers, which will still be a thing over in Action and AoS, this event is going to be important for his direction as a character. Obviously this is me projecting, but I want to believe that one of the writers here is going to end up taking over control of Jon after Taylor's finishes his mini, ideally Yang or Watters. Hey Yang if you can bring Kenan into this event, do it. Taylor keeps trying to make his Superman stick, might as well assert yourself and use your Superman too where you can.
Good lineup generally. That's not counting other projects we know are coming such as Porter's Superboy mini, Waid's Superman: Testament book with Hitch, or Venditti's Superman '78 Season 2. Taylor hinted on Twitter that there are more announcements coming too after Action 1050, and PKJ hinted that something might be coming with Lana. Praying that a Steel miniseries with Lana in there as secondary protagonist/love interest is coming, written by Greg Pak, is in the works. Steel isn't in Action or advertised as being anywhere else, but he had a badass Action 1050 variant and it would be weird for him to just disappear. Irons is being positioned as a key player for PKJ Action, for him not to be with the Superfamily post 1050 must mean he's getting a book of his own. That's how I'm coping anyway.

Thoughts on the NYCC announcements? Personally I'm afraid the Authority will go into the background if Action is becoming the Superfamily book, but I still trust PKJ to introduce interesting concepts.
Yeah I'm resigning myself to the Authority crew getting dropped. PKJ was asking on Twitter if people thought there was any interest in an Authority book not by him, and saying he'd want to get an LGBT+ writer for them. Later said that DC was trying to find a place for those characters, so maybe we'll get a new Superman & the Authority book down the road. I wish they'd induct Apollo into the Superfamily, getting him away from Midnighter who always overshadows him (heh remind you of another duo?) would be good for him. Let him play off of other flying bricks and show how he's similar and how he's different. Let him bond with Jon over being a queer hero and the difficulties that come with that, of trying to establish a place for yourself in the shadow of one of the greatest heroes of all time. I want Apollo so badly to be inducted into the Superfamily but I don't think it's happening. Can always dream though!

Banned Books Week: Let Freedom Read!
To celebrate our freedom to read this Banned Books Week, we will be shining a light on the most challenged books of 2022. Next up are the 7th, 8th, and 9th most challenged titles.
Lawn Boy by Jonathan Evison
For Mike Muñoz, a young Chicano living in Washington State, life has been a whole lot of waiting for something to happen. Not too many years out of high school and still doing menial work - and just fired from his latest gig as a lawn boy on a landscaping crew - he knows that he’s got to be the one to shake things up if he’s ever going to change his life. But how?
In this funny, angry, touching, and ultimately deeply inspiring novel, bestselling author Jonathan Evison takes the reader into the heart and mind of a young man on a journey to discover himself, a search to find the secret to achieving the American dream of happiness and prosperity. That’s the birthright for all Americans, isn’t it? If so, then what is Mike Muñoz’s problem? Though he tries time and again to get his foot on the first rung of that ladder to success, he can’t seem to get a break. But then things start to change for Mike, and after a raucous, jarring, and challenging trip, he finds he can finally see the future and his place in it. And it’s looking really good.
The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie
Bestselling author Sherman Alexie tells the story of Junior, a budding cartoonist growing up on the Spokane Indian Reservation. Determined to take his future into his own hands, Junior leaves his troubled school on the rez to attend an all-white farm town high school where the only other Indian is the school mascot.
Heartbreaking, funny, and beautifully written, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, which is based on the author's own experiences, coupled with poignant drawings by Ellen Forney that reflect the character's art, chronicles the contemporary adolescence of one Native American boy as he attempts to break away from the life he was destined to live.
Out of Darkness by Ashley Hope Pérez
"This is East Texas, and there's lines. Lines you cross, lines you don't cross. That clear?"
New London, Texas. 1937. Naomi Vargas and Wash Fuller know about the lines in East Texas as well as anyone. They know the signs that mark them. They know the people who enforce them. But sometimes the attraction between two people is so powerful it breaks through even the most entrenched color lines. And the consequences can be explosive.
Ashley Hope Pérez takes the facts of the 1937 New London school explosion, the worst school disaster in American history, as a backdrop for a riveting novel about segregation, love, family, and the forces that destroy people.

🍓 :: drawings (PLATONIC)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The sound of crayons could be heard from inside the office of the Port Mafia's Boss. And of course, it was the blonde-haired girl again.
She really loves drawing, especially if she draws with her favourite person, "Excuse me, Boss. I am here to give you reports of the people you had just told me about. These are the documents containing their informations, from their past identity, to their deepest darkest se—"
"Y/n! You're finally backk!" Said the little girl running up to the mafia executive.
"Ah..elise—"
"Heyy, do you forgot your promise to me?"
"Oh, right. My bad. Good Afternoon, My lady. How are you doing?"
"I am doing just fine! How about youu??"
"I also am doing just fine m'lady. Do forgive me for not visiting you for the past few weeks. I have been very busy with work, and busy with, a certain someone."
"That's okay, i understand! The important part is that you are here right now, so, let's draw together shall we? I already draw something for you! It's a drawing of us!"
"Awwh, I am honored that i have become an inspiration for your wholesome drawing, my lady! But i am now currently busy with work and i seem to have not been able to accompany you to draw right now, i apologize. I promise i will make it up to you next time."
Y/n pats Elise at her head and goes back to the Boss desk. Elise can't help but feel sad because she no longer have someone to play with, upon noticing this, Mori decides to tell Y/n to just go play with Elise. Because, well, Mori feels really bad.
"Psst, Y/n, you can just go play with elise-chan. I will take care of this myself ^^"
"Ah..boss, are you sure? There are plenty of documents—"
"Shhh, it's alright! You want to make elise happy, don't you? It's because she reminds you of your..sister, right?"
"...."
"Now go, no need to worry over these. I will handle it."
Y/n bows down to Mori and goes over to elise who is drawing something. "My, what are you drawing?"
"I am drawing you and me wearing the same dress hehe!"
"Oh my, how cute of you, (sister name)."
"Huh? Who is (sister name)?"
"Oh..i—umm, nothing. Please just continue drawing, my lady."
Bonus:
"Y/n, look!"
"Uh..what is that?"
"It's you and Mr.Chuuya! Cute, right??"
"I'm not going to deny that it's indeed the most cutest things i've saw today but, why does it look like i'm choking him, my lady?.."

This will be long feel free to keep scrolling in just talking.
Tumblr media
😐Well it’s unfortunate that the US is out of the women’s World Cup this game to me looked way more like a team then they have this whole tournament. I had previously stated that if they continued to play the way they had the past three games Sweden would take them out. While Sweden didn’t do extremely well the US looked so much more like a team and that’s what makes me happy. I’m critical of any and all teams win or lose or draw because I’m well aware of players and teams and what they can do. I knew the US could do better than what they did even without Vlatko.
Unfortunately for the team it was a little too late in the tournament for them to look dominant (yes I know it was a close game). Before anyone comes at me about calls not being made for them, calls were also not made for Sweden. Hopefully Vlatko will be fired 😃but if he isn’t I really to hope the girls take initiative and do more team bonding when they get called up because all of them are extremely talented and can go far they just need to figure it out on the field and build chemistry with players they may not frequently play with. They may also need to just ignore vlatko 😒(like seriously if you know he’s being dumb just ignore him you really only need him for subs) and play the game the way they know how to (also Lindsey if we’re going to be captain just stay mad 😡 and act like they’re your children since angry you does better).
Tumblr media
To Sophia i think you may want to ask for Katie McCabes arm day workout so that maybe you don’t keep getting yeeted off the ball 😬I love the shots but I’m not loving you finding the ground so frequently. To Rodman lovely job checking on an opponent, excellent job on the pitch. To Kristie, Lynn, Kelley I’m sorry that you all didn’t get enough time on the pitch but great job and hopefully we can see you for the Olympics and maybe one final WC for the three of you. To the rest of the youngsters you played well and we’ll see you again in a WC that I’m confident in. To Naomi specifically top tier performance great job. Alyssa Naeher great job. To Julie and Crystal super proud of the performances. Sonnett and Lavelle proud of you two too. Um 😐 yeah everyone else that I didn’t see or missed the talent is top tier wish it could have shined some more this tournament but Olympics are coming. Otherwise I really liked what I saw from the team and I really wish this was how we played the start of the tournament.
Okay now I move to Sweden😃. Ladies 😒 what the actual fuck was that today?!?! Not you Musovic you did great babe, but what the actual fuck. The team had a sort of of day I guess they thought the US would play the way they had the past three games and then were like “wow 😲 they’re playing different 😧 they didn’t play like that earlier”. But um yeah I… I don’t know what that was. To Lina Hurtig babe 🙃 why can’t you play like this at Arsenal like why… why have I never seen you play like that… could you… could you maybe play like that at Arsenal? Thanks. Okay well I’m yeah Sweden y’all… y’all did um well that… um let’s do better than that next time. The team really did just do a bit poor and they did struggle but this whole tournament they’ve looked great.
Tumblr media
*deep sigh* While I wanted the US to lose for not showing up and showing out in the group stage and showing off the talent we have it hurts and sucks when you see the team you were hard on finally show up. But it’s okay olympics are around the corner and I know they’ll make a comeback and be the team we know they can be.
And before you come at me I have multiple teams I’m rooting for and most the time it’s not even really the whole team just some players but I love football(soccer if that’s what you call it). Anyways loved the match and love the teams it’s been exciting so far.
