Ben: A very special book. Your mom used to read this when she was under the weather and it always lifted her spirits a lot. So I thought I might try reading it to you.
Alex: *sighing* Does it have any sports in it?
Ben: Are you kidding? Fencing. Fighting. Torture. Revenge. Giants. Monsters. Chases. Escapes. True Love. Miracles.
Alex: That doesn't sound too bad. I guess I'll try to stay awake.
Ben: Well, thank you very much. That's very nice if you. Your vote of confidence is overwhelming.
Ben: *clears throat* 'An Introduction to the Construction of Tunnels by Blasting and Boring' by J. Paul Guyer. "Firstly let it be noted that this publication is adapted from the Unified Facilities Criteria and other resources of the United States Government which are in the public domain, have been authorized for unlimited distribution, and are not copyrighted." Now isn't that a wonderful beginning?
Alex: ...what the actual hell is this?
Ben: Shhh. It'll help. You'll see. "Chapter One, Part one, General Rules. The Design team must be composed of design and construction engineers and geologists experienced in underground construction. Methods and sequences of excavation affects the..."
*Bonus*
Alex: *after several mind-numbing hours* Ben, wait. Just--wait.
Ben: Are you confused? Do I need to go back a little and--
Alex: I guess I am a little confused. I mean, where's the sports? And the torture? I mean, when's it get good?
Beh: Were you not listening to the section all about horrible mistakes that can lead to cave-ins in Chapter Two: Tunnel Excavations By Drilling and Blasting? That was exciting, right?
Which character can you imagine saying this movie quote on Snowpiercer, "Spare me your lies, temptress! Your emperor is defeated and I am immune to your bewitching good looks!"? (and who would they be saying it to?)
Okay but this is Bess @ cage!Audrey
She thinks she's being funny and cute (she is, Audrey secretly loves it)

Can I also say Chris kinda has the worst luck as an actor? How could it be that every film he worked on during the Marvel years outside of the MCU didn’t have both critical and commercial success (they either had one or the other). I think he was trying to establish a name for himself outside of Marvel with great directors I might add but all of them didn’t find audiences back then that I think would have been really successful now. If Sunshine, Scott Pilgrim, or Snowpiercer came out now, there’s little doubt in my mind they wouldn’t have been wildly successful. I agree that the Marvel hype of course overshadows everything else but still. It’s wild to me. Plus, I think that adds to the truth behind the Tarantino quote that the Marvel actor isn’t the movie star and Chris himself even agreed with it.
(Side note: Could it be possible that most of the industry people in Hollywood think Chris has too much money or would ask for too much money for a role because of Marvel and therefore auteur projects without much of a budget for actors don’t get sent to him?)
Snowpiercer, for all intents and purposes, was an AMAZING film. But Harvey Weinstein was a dick and that’s why it did so poorly here in the states. 🧜🏻♀️
mmm i have a few of these! like anything, it tends to shift over time. lately it's been kotonoha no niwa (easy watch bc it's like 40 minutes) and emma 2020. some others: whisper of the heart/kiki's/laputa, snowpiercer, cabin in the woods, p&p 2005
15. What is the funniest movie you've ever seen?
mmm in terms of most laughs over time id say monty python and the holy grail. i think there was a period when it was quoted all the time and it began to feel tired, but before that i felt like the jokes never got stale
Content costs can be amortized — or assigned a cost that gets recognized by an entity across multiple years — over the program or film’s expected lifetime. If years on that timeline remain, a company can remove that asset from distribution and use its remaining cost balance to offset taxable income elsewhere.
The accounting practice is not a new one, but it’s under the microscope at the moment — especially given the “Batgirl” bombshell. On Tuesday, Warner Bros. Discovery’s decision to straight-up cancel the release of the completed (save some reshoots), straight-to-streaming movie “Batgirl” shocked Hollywood. With options to release the Leslie Grace-starring DC Comics movie on Max as planned, or to invest tens of millions more and pivot to theatrical, David Zaslav chose neither. So you’ll never see that movie, which included the return of Michael Keaton as Batman, and Zaslav’s accountants probably didn’t see their families for weeks, figuring that one out.
Quoting from this Reddit thread:
Some of the many projects cancelled by Warner Bros. since the merger with Discovery in April 2022:
CNN+ and all of its programming just a matter of days after its launch.
Raised by Wolves (HBO Max)
Close Enough (HBO Max)
Gordita Chronicles (HBO Max)
Made for Love (HBO Max)
Chad (TBS, hours before its season premiere was set to air.)
Full Frontal with Samantha Bee (TBS)
Three Busy Debras (Adult Swim)
Joe Pera Talks with You (Adult Swim …Sigh.)
Naomi (The CW)
Legends of Tomorrow (The CW)
Snowpiercer (TNT, during production on their fourth season.)
The Wonder Twins film, shortly after the leads were announced.
Scoob!: Holiday Haunt, which was reportedly all but finished.
And now Batgirl, after the movie was already made.
These aren’t just films and shows that won’t be greenlit. These are multi-season shows with stories left unfinished, and almost completely finished seasons and films that will never see the light of day.
We’re losing all of this art, all of this work, for a tax write-off.
