He doesn't stop glaring at the person, and when they leave, his arm is back around your shoulders, pressing a kiss on your temple.

When he sees you walking down the stage, he's shouting with his whole being.

A guy once came up to you asking for your number while you were with Baji.

Stupid? No, idiotic.

The moment he said that, Baji placed a kiss on your lips and turned you to the other side.

Sweet cherry and honey pie

Didn't find out until someone came up to you asking for a picture.

He was like "the fuck?"

Then you explained to him that you were a model for quite a popular company.

His signature smile returned immediately, placing a hand on the small of your back and pressing his cheek to yours.

"That's my babe!"

Literally a whole menace

The first time he saw you on television or walking down the stage, he almost opened his eyes.

Literally climbed on the runway and kissed you.

"If any of you cheeky motherfuckers dare touch my girl, I'll kill ya without hesitation!"

They kicked him out.

Nobody dares come up to you after that whole event.

Started calling you 'sweet cheeks' after your 'Summer Started' fashion review.

Annoying.

Perhaps my reasoning is too simple, too simplistic. Perhaps the flow of my associations is also too simplistic, perhaps by simplifying I am making a mistake in my reasoning. I take this into account. Especially since I'm making my argument based on a few photos published on Instagram, not based on hard data. But what do we see from a few photos on Instagram?

(By the way, let's not forget that Sam flew to the USA at the time, so there's no doubt that Sam and Caitriona lead completely separate lives and have nothing in common. After all, nobody remembers that they both dropped off the radar in previous weeks. Sure, they weren't in the SM, but they couldn't have been together in real life at the time, as they lead completely separate lives, as they have repeatedly emphasised).

Well, the course of events, reconstructed from several photos published on Instagram, is that on Wednesday 29 November 2023, Caitriona was standing (with a strange expression on her face) next to a half-dead and unwashed PA (a man who has always and for years had no career and no social media presence). She allowed her (and her PA's) photograph to be taken and published by GettyImages.

They appeared together at the special screening after party for 'Leave The World Behind'.

We later learn that Cait was invited to an 'intimate lunch' organised by agency Finch+Partners to celebrate #MaestroFilm, directed and starring Bradley Cooper.

During the lunch, Caitriona sits at the table next to Cooper, in front of Carey Mulligan (can you think of a better place to sit at the table?) and laughs at the jokes Charles Finch tells. How did she get there?

Now one thing you'll notice, is the tv-show category between Stede Bonnet & Charles, and Steve and Murray got a bit out of hand. Most of the rest of the polls ranged in the 200-400 votes-- while those two ranged in the 7-9000K votes. Obviously somebody was having some bot fun. What's interesting is that during the day, once the bots started, they were heavily favoring Charles, and Murray, then the other half of they day they were heavily favoring Stede and Steve! JUJUTSU KAISEN AU

Quite literally, all of these characters would be alive and thriving anywhere else.

Nobara Kugisaki - IG Model, easy. After not getting scouted in Tokyo like she'd always imagined, she decides to do it her mf'ing self. Her results... are lackluster. At first. But as frustration wins, she inadvertently starts letting the real her shine through (complete with bouts of scathing badassery during a live complaining about her lack of fame). People begin to find her incredibly relatable and she becomes like the Jennifer Lawrence of influencers. Never once do her travels take her close to Shibuya station.

Why: That "I-Know-I'm-The-Shit-Even-If-You-Don't" attitude has nothing to do with jujutsu. Nobara has an unwavering confidence and is delulu enough to make it happen, whatever It is for her.

Yuji Itadori - As a card carrying member of the occult club in high school, Yuji starts considering his prospects for higher education (Sasaki and Iguchi will continue to need someone to hide behind as they investigate the "supernatural"). Subsequently, he finally gives into coach's insistence to join a sports team provided it doesn't take time away from his club commitments and, of course, goes All Star in whatever sport he decides to take on. Subsequently, he gets a full ride + stipends to attend university as a college baseball player after chasing his passing interest in going to the "Summer Koshien". He happens to follow Kugisaki on Insta.

Why: Yuji's need to be needed would, in part, guide his steps. I think he'd want to be something cinema related, like a reviewer! But he'd always want to coddle the cowering forms of his peers even if they weren't particularly close. Sports is a means to an end, maybe he'll study cinematography or film theory in uni! But ultimately, he's still a kid who wants to help people.

Megumi Fushiguro - Sweet baby Megs has always had a penchant with animals. They find their way to him at parties, otherwise well behaved dogs pull against their leash to flock to him... even wild animals tend to be way too comfortable getting close. This charm he has over animals amuses him though he'd never admit it aloud (he's still just as sullen as ever). Subsequently, while he doesn't need the money, he helps out as a veterinarian technician while in high school and volunteers to walk dogs at the local humane society. He doesn't have social media but he occasionally gets posted with the animals on their SM pages when they have adoption events (which tend to be really well attended afterwards). He's posted exactly one video to YouTube to an account with no profile picture that urges idiots to stop giving baseballs to dogs and leaving them unattended as aggressive chewers may end up ingesting the innards which cause obstructions in their intestines. Yuji was the idiot in question that prompted the post. He did see the video.

Why: Megumi is gentle but more specifically to life forms that deserve it. I still think he'd break the face of anyone who breaks the golden rule of "don't hurt me [or anyone I love] and I won't hurt you [or anyone you love]" but that soft spot for vulnerable beings is still there.

Nanami Kento - Nanami Kento is still a salaryman but, without the outlet that being a sorcerer allowed him when he felt dispirited, he's forced to white knuckle it like the rest of us. That is, until he finds a cause that he can dedicate some of his time to. It starts when Haibara joins a community outreach program wherein he encourages Nanami to be a volunteer mentor. It starts out rather stiffly but, eventually, things kind of click together for him. He realizes the kid he's mentoring isn't a total delinquent and the kid realizes he's not being infantilized when Nanami just cares for his wellbeing. With this understanding, Nanami really feels like his impact is meaningful and he commits to taking on more responsibilities within the program both in a leadership role and in taking on more mentees. Ino was his first mentee, Yuji was his second (mandatory after being caught underage in a pachinko casino). He couldn't get rid of either of them after the fact.

Why: Nanami isn't so bored with being an office worker that jujutsu is the only alternative. He just wants to feel like his incredibly valuable time makes a difference. He needs a cause and Papamin deserves someone to look after (quite to his dismay).

Satoru Gojo - Satoru Gojo wants for not in any universe. Subsequently, he is just an eccentric rich guy who, in a very intentionally Jay Gatsby manner, frequently throws extremely lavish parties that are the talk of the town. They are as garrish as he is outlandish but men and women flock to them for a chance at getting a peak at the Gojo clan heir. In his youth, he'd gone to a small, private religious high school and still sends individual invitations to each of his old schoolmates with the hope that one of them in particular will come. Shoko attends every party with Utahime begrudgingly at her side. Nanami curtly replies with a written "decline" to every single invitation though Haibara is sometimes able to drag him out. Geto attends occasionally but he is quite blissfully unaware that these opulent parties are solely meant to captivate his attention. He's under the impression that whatever they had in high school is long gone. Nobara has, on occasion, tried to crash these parties but security usually bounces her because she's underage.

Why: In every universe, in every life, Satoru Gojo is a simp. Especially for the lone person he considers to be his equal. For all his money, for all his power, he is always left wanting [Suguru Geto].

My Hero Academia AU

Honestly, this gave me more of a hard time. Like, the kids are the same age as JJK but, they just seem... like kids. I can't tell if it's the depth of JJK's character development or their semi-obvious cursed techniques as they relates to employment but here's what I came up with.

Katsuki Bakugo - Katsuki Bakugo is effortlessly good at a lot of things in and out of the MHA universe. While he has a keen intellect fit for many professions, I think his obsessive-bordering-on-psychopathic dedication to be the strongest, the best is reminiscent of a dude bro bullying you into buying whey protein and lifting more. He would for sure be a personal trainer who would, begrudgingly, have a social media presence where he commodifies his otherwise flippant attitude and "beats people into being a less shitty version of themselves". He would also have a private, no face cooking account on tik tok for his curated but delicious meal planning. Midoriya, unknowingly, follows both online personalities. This does not escape Bakugo’s attention.

Why: Don't get me wrong, kid is will one day be the CEO of whatever company he wants (a lot of CEO's are also psychopathic) but, considering his age and current hobbies, he was born to call his followers extras while condescending to them about a proper workout and nutrition plan.

Izuku Midoriya - Izuku and his penchant for hyper informed rants about his special interest would see surprising success as a tiktoker. Bullies would always find something to pick on him for whether that be his absent dad, his socioeconomic background, his pitiful disposition… but even they’d be clued into and following along for his long form verbal essays on pop culture (only thing I could think of in lieu of hero culture, maybe sports would be better?). He’d cultivate a community of adoring fans turned friends and collaborate with other similarly obsessed fanatics. Bakugo would be hyperaware of his channel but act really passive when any of their old middle school classmates bring it up to talk about it.

Why: I feel like tiktok is absolutely the perfect environment where people can connect over their interests and, as an aficionado in whatever seems apropos for the AU, Midoriya’s innate charm over others would shine through and garner a following. Especially because we know he knows what he’s talking about. I’d be tuned in.

Shoto Todoroki - if Enji is still in the mix, he’s likely still going to be waging war against his own weakness (in whatever capacity) and, subsequently will be both insanely successful by other peoples’ standards and still incredibly toxic toward his children in this mission. Shoto will still bear the brunt of it but will temper it with willful rebellion. Oh, you want Shoto to take over the family investment portfolio? It’ll cost you. He will be somewhat mindful of his actions so people aren’t losing their livelihoods but he will be sinking tons of Enji’s personal money into stocks or company’s with unfavorable odds. A family owned cement company that was about to go under, paying to keep a radio station operable 24/7 with semi-hourly disparaging blind items about Enji Todoroki.. these are just a few of his dalliances. Shoto is an undercover day trader using his fathers slush fund as capital. He was absolutely a big part of what saved GameStop’s stock inexplicably. Turned him a pretty profit but he refuses to give Enji the satisfaction of knowing that he may have been right in steering him to stocks in the first place. Midoriya absolutely talked at length about the phenomenon that rejuvenated his favorite game store from his youth he used to frequent with an unnamed childhood friend. Bakugo saw the segment and, while secretly giddy, did not reach out. Did thank whatever invisible hand drove the nerd to mention it though.

Why: His nepo baby status will get him in to places where he actually wants to be, career wise, but Enji is still stonewalling him into his idea of Shoto’s life. Further, he would never want his unique legacy to be tainted with whatever grace his father’s name gives him. He has time and the means to figure out what he wants to do though. And access to so much therapy.

Shouta Aizawa - I honestly cannot see Aizawa as anything not expressly kid related. The care he has when he gets on their eye level to talk to them is top tier. TBH he rounds out the trifecta of mentors who unilaterally put kids above themselves with Nanami and, arguably, Gojo. If not a teacher, I’d say a loose cannon social worker. Earnestly, this man is willing to be in the shit of it if only to spare children who lack guidance, resources, proper decision making skills, etc. as a UA teacher. He wouldn’t be of the “quick to expel and dash dreams” type of loose cannon that his teacher persona allows. He’d be more like a Benson from Law & Order SVU type loose cannon where he’s probably bending some protocols to be a bit more domineering than he needs to be so adults know that any vulnerable kids under his charge are cared for because he’s super invested in his work and their wellbeing. Plus, the man can be a little deranged so he’s not afraid to make his subtle point more clear ✨ for people who don’t appear to be getting the message when it comes to his young stewards.

Why: If there is a society that unjustly does not protect children, then Shouta Aizawa will. I think my hope is that Shirakumo Oboro isn't a lesson in every universe.

Toshinori Yagi - This man is a politician. He runs on idyllic principles which are infectious across every demographic. He appears earnest and forthright and truly got into it for all the right reasons but the reality of politics is very different from the idea of them. He still thrives but feels more and more like he's failing his constituents, losing out to other politicians who are more corrupt, who curry favor from less than savory organizations to sway policies in their favor. He's disheartened but still believes in a future with peace and looks to the youth, his biggest support base, to take steps toward progress together which includes bolstering social programs. Aizawa thinks he's a bit of a sham until money starts hitting the programs that matter. Midoriya talks about Yagi's bold commitment to partnering with the youth on his channel frequently.

Why: It was this or a Gilderoy Lockhart-esque facade for a self-help book author. I see both as equally plausible. Selling a dream while falling apart internally? Same.

I wish there was a way I could convince my boss to get on board with the idea of a suggestion box, so that all of us employees could anonymously write suggestions for how to improve the store + things we'd like that might make us more productive, feel more appreciated, etc. But there's no way for me to bring it up without making it seem like the reason for the box is because she's such a fuckup as a manager. (Because that is the real reason lmao) She's also the type who would read a legitimate constructive criticism and scoff and wave it off as us asking for something extremely unreasonable or make up some bullshit about how xyz can't be done to improve the store because there's not enough hours, or crew, or money in the budget, whatever. I can actually picture her doing that.

The past few days I've been obsessed with this idea (mostly because I had a nightmare shift that would've easily been avoided had she done her job and managed correctly and assigned people to do the setup work beforehand) but I can't think of a way to get her on board. I've considered just making a box myself and putting it in the breakroom with some pens and paper scraps, but I predict it wouldn't even be a full day before she tosses it out.

So, just to get some off my chest, I'm going to put some of the suggestions I WOULD'VE written here.

•Either bring back the stocking crew that came in at 5:00 a.m. before the store opened or schedule extra people on delivery days to stay in the stockroom and unbox all products and sort them by department/aisle BEFORE putting product out on the sales floor.

(This one is a direct reference to the stocking shift I recently had that was a nightmare because none of the stock had been pre-sorted by department, which was done in the past by the stocking crew, so we had to open boxes and sort them on the sales floor while simultaneously stocking items, while the store was open and we were constantly interrupted by customers. This made stocking take at least double, if not triple the time it would've taken. That delivery was a week ago, and the boxes are STILL sitting on the sales floor, half-stocked)

•While stocking, have each employee price tag each individual item, as our stock does not arrive pre-tagged, so that customers are not confused about the prices, since upper management removed the store scanners.

•Assign the ASM or a lead to exclusively do the schedule so that the schedule is regularly posted the 3 weeks out, as required, not 3 days out.

•Assign a lead or promote a non-management employee to be a trainer to correctly train the new hires.

(As of right now, new hires are hired and then basically thrown on the floor and told to figure it out and fend for themselves, obviously leading to many mistakes that need to be unfucked by the rest of the crew, they'll ask other employees for help, but most of those employees were "trained" in the same method, so they'll show the new hires the wrong way, the blind leading the blind, essentially)

•Schedule more than 1 person per department, this way there is adequate coverage in the event of a rush, plus in downtime, one employee can assist customers while the other does go-backs/recovery and makes the department look neat and presentable.

(The store looks like a tornado hit it currently) (I also know this one is probably a union-busting thing, but honestly? Remember KM@rts and how messy they always looked? My store makes KM@rt look like a model store)

•Do some morale boosters. Every employee in the store looks like they're in prison. (We kinda are) We literally got an online review (that SHE HERSELF PRINTED OUT) that stated that we all looked miserable and looked like we needed a moral boost. We desperately do. The real solution would be better pay and hours, but we know you, the SM don't have that much control over that. You could do small things, though. The previous ASM would regularly bring in snacks for the breakroom for us, would regularly have potlucks on holidays that brought us all together, she would also make sure to regularly tell each of us that we were appreciated and would recognize our hard work. Even if it was bs, it still raised morale.

ANYWAY, thank you for letting me rant. ✨️🙌

P.S. I know obviously none of you know my boss, since I'm anonymous and didn't specify where I work (for obvious reasons) but do any of you think the suggestions box thing has even a slim chance of working? In my head, I wasn't going to tell her it was my idea or ask permission, I was just going to set up the box in the breakroom and throw in a few of my own suggestions and see if any of my coworkers add their own. Because I felt if I asked permission or told my boss my idea, she'd take offense that I was indirectly calling her a fuckup (she is) and undermining her authority or some bullshit like that. Or do you guys think if I just do it without telling anyone, she might be curious and at least look at a few suggestions? Or should I ask her to set one up? I really don't think that would go well, personally.

Everyone needs connection and attention, these are basic human needs. But I'm an extrovert addicted to dopamine lol, and my social batteries always scream for it a little louder. Fanfiction is such a wonderful hobby to me BECAUSE of this connection. You guys, my reviewers, give me the motivation to write multi-chapters. Without you, this would not be a fun hobby to me.

And so my biggest thanks goes to those reviewers who support me through on-going, unfinished multi-chapters. Especially Puppeteer is a Trip right now. The chapters are massive, the story is intense, the slow burn is evil, I barely have time for it next to my other projects and work, and supporting it is not the easiest right now, I know that. KotE......... I do actually rly enjoy KotE I think it has potential in terms of where it's going. But since I only posted one fic in 2023, I'll do my top 5 of fics I've ever posted. Apart from the first one this is in no particular order

tickertape - The A-Team (TV) it's my baby it's all I thought about for months of my life, it's like an iceberg (i.e. most of it is in my WIP doc, and only a tiny fraction is published so far), it got me thru a difficult time, it's an exploration of mental illness and complicated messy relationships expressed in epic format (i.e. it's probably gonna be novel length when it's done)

Bullet Number Six - Starsky & Hutch (TV) it received criticism for being obscure and hard to follow bc it switches pov briefly halfway thru but idc i love it anyway

I Gotta Right to Sing the Blues - The A-Team (TV) it was my first A-Team fic and I still think for a beginner it nailed some p realistic in-character dialogue and addressed an undertone I wished I'd seen addressed in the ep it's a coda to.

When They Sleep - The Man from UNCLE (TV) it's kind of riddled with certain mannerisms of my slightly older writing which I personally find a bit annoying and have worked to iron out for the sake of elegance over the years. but I still think it's a cool little exploration of all my sleep headcanons for the pair of them in one place

King of the Eyesores - Doctor Who (1963) see it made it to the list after all! I kinda like it more for its potential than for what it is right now butttttt who cares.

special mention to Unbereft (Starsky & Hutch) which I really really like but I wrote it in one frenzied sitting and only remembered after I'd posted it that it was very like someone else's fic I'd read several years previously. I don't think it's too much like to be taken down and I've since mentioned the writer of the other fic (it was dawnwind, hello!) in the notes. that's the only reason unbereft isn't in my top 5 because I'm otherwise really proud of how well it's written. Not to tootle on my own trumpet.

Dear Mike - an epistolary between Jo Grant and Mike Yates following her marriage to Cliff Jones.

The Lark/Behind That Locked Door (working titles) - a 30-chapter 2/Jamie fic about season 6B in which Jamie suffers permanent memory problems after the War Games. It explores grief, social ostracism, feeling abandoned, undirected anger, guilt, and acceptance that healing sometimes is a process that is never complete. I've been working on it since about 2016 lol but I'm lazy I just need to press on.

hell valley au - as yet untitled lol. In which the Hell Valley!Marty (who is never seen in BTTF2 as he is in Switzerland) and Hell Valley!Doc (who has been institutionalized) break out of their respective situations and go on the run together. But there's a problem - they had to leave Einstein behind, and when they get information that Einie is to be used for a dogfight, they make the risky decision to go back to Hill Valley to rescue him. However, going back to the place they just escaped by the skin of their teeth also brings them face to face with the last person they expect to meet.

a changed man (working title) - a Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased) fic from Jeannie's pov. mostly it's about their picnic excursions but it's also about Jeannie wishing Marty wasn't such an elephant in the room

mfu/rahd xover (untitled) - the first chapter of this is almost ready to go tbh. it's what it says on the tin lol, Napoleon and Illya go to London and get help from a rather eccentric private detective who has uncanny powers of solving impossible cases but also they think is probably clinically insane

to see him happy - VERY weird rahd fic. it's smut but its also about grief. might never post it because several of my family members have access to my tumblr and therefore my ao3 lol they dont need to see that

the winter of '62 - a study of jeff and marty's life when they lived together in a grotty bedsit and couldnt afford to put the heating on

star wars (untitled) - set during ROTJ, han pov. han's lost a lot of time and now everyone is one step ahead of him which isn't a sensation he's used to

skyrissian - what it says on the tin lol

the older gen (untitled) - jeeves fic about bertie's aunts and uncles and parents as they were as they variously grew up, got married, had children, died (or didn't), fell prey to alcoholism or insanity or petty crime, went to war, prospered (or didn't)... This is pretty unlikely to be finished this year tbh as it's very detailed but I can dream

a couple of long form fics about starsky & hutch and mfu respectively (the s&h one is set post sweet revenge, the mfu one takes place at various moments throughout the show)

x-files series - canon compliant until paperclip and then gradually diverges into how i think the show should have gone lol. another biggie

and a handful of tintin fics that im protective of and might never post but we'll see - one where tintin and chang go on holiday in london after picaros, one where the gang encounters rajaijah one last time (featuring a letter from didi, chang making a very daring crossing at the songolese border, and tintin taking about ten years to chop up a clove of garlic), and one where tintin gets shitfaced at an embassy ball and accidentally starts an Incident. haddock looks on, appalled.

i knoooooooooooooooowww this is a lot but i'm not realistically hoping to finish it all this year but it's nice to have lots of things to play around with lol.

UNIT REVIEW: ARMORED FIREFLY CAT

yeah this thing sucks lol

in order to justify this unit even slightly, we will be looking at its stats at level 50+10. this would require you to spend 25 catseyes, over a million XP, and get 10 dupes from the summer break event capsule and then use all of them. keep this in mind as we go over this.

armored firefly is an event cat from the june summer break event capsules (with the kabuto cats). it's an egg unit that costs 10 red and 10 purple gems to evolve. 24k health (48k vs weakened target, 40k vs unweakened behemoth, 80k vs weakened behemoth), 50% chance to weaken red and alien to 50% for three seconds, behemoth slayer (obv), 1056 dps with 2112 dph, two second tba (time between attacks), 210 range, 10 speed, slightly less than five second cooldown, 450 cost

now, just looking at this without any outside context, why is it that bad? while its 210 range and 50/50 weaken procs make it an awful CC option for general use outside of behemoths, 40k health vs behemoth with weaken vs traits relatively prevalent in behemoths (Casaurian Ahirujo (red duck), Crustaceous Scissorex (behemoth krabbe), Infernal Pegasus Deonil (red slepinir), Suidae Piggicus (behemoth alien pigge)) with a cooldown low enough to be fixed by research combos (three SM, one M one SM, or one L research combo is enough to make it effectively minimum cooldown, one more SM added makes it truly minimum cooldown) sounds pretty solid in theory. of course, the operative phrase there is "in theory".

450 cost hurts. that's the equivalent of spamming triple erasers and only slightly less than ramen and one eraser. this is averaging 225 out of your pocket every second if you're spamming it with max research combos. behemoth stages aren't exactly giving you that much usually, and you're gonna want that money.

at level 50+10 with full defense up talents, ramen cat has 40320 health (not just against behemoth). it has less cooldown, costs 135 less, and has resist angel, giving it 201600 effective health against angels with all cotc fruit treasures (rajakong comes to mind). firefly is stuck at a max level of 50+10, while ramen can be boosted WAY past that, with 59220 health at level 50+80 (296100 effective). max ramen can tank a 300% woge hit. firefly can't even dream of doing that. ramen also has almost six times the dps of firefly, which isn't that relevant on a meatshield but chip damage always helps.

so, what about its ability? weaken helps on a meatshield, right? well, first off, it's a coin flip as to whether or not it manages to work, and it's only 50% weaken. however, let's say it does work, and you get PERFECT rng. firefly's one second of foreswing still has a decent chance of not working before it gets pushed into and dies miserably, but if it does weaken, it gets 80k health vs a weakened behemoth, which stalls...ahirujo? the first and easiest behemoth "boss"? scissorex, which can just be meatshielded with anything? suidae, which has like 3k dps? can't even reach deonil cuz deonil outranges and freezes, and the wave is gonna freeze the fireflies behind the one in front too. firefly's compatibility with the enemies it could theoretically work against does exist, to be sure, but it's so unneeded, which brings us to:

powercreep. the killer of all units (not that firefly was that good to begin with)

the enemies that firefly works best against are undoubtedly woge and ahirujo. woge because it can tank a 200% woge hit, which is good for an anti-behemoth meatshield, and ahirujo because it can weaken it semi-reliably (ahirujo always appears at 100%, and 100% ahirujo attack is slightly less than half of firefly's effective behemoth hp. when weakened, it's slightly less than a quarter). guess who destroys both of those?

you know where this is going. courier famously MURDERS most reds and most behemoths. put them together, and a level 50 courier does 112050 damage per hit vs red behemoths (52523.4 dps). firefly's anti-red niche is irrelevant. what about alien?

oh goddammit

soap cat is a fucked up tanker with **495833 HP** vs alien behemoths. it also has weaken to 50% (30% chance but it will generally stay alive long enough to proc) for five seconds, giving it **991667 HP** when the alien behemoth is weakened. firefly is irrelevant. period.

tl;dr: firefly is a waste of 10 red and 10 purple stones, and needs to be fully boosted to be considered just bad and severely outclassed instead of a contender for the worst unit in the game. thank you for reading

I know I'm a very harsh critic of post-Gen 5 Pokemon, but as far as 3D games go, Sun and Moon are undoubtedly the best the series has to offer - despite their evident flaws. I think there were a few key events that permanently negatively altered my perception of Gen 7, and I want to point those out here.

USUM released. I think it's pretty agreed upon nowadays that USUM is a downgrade from SM in almost every way, but the notable things were a) how the story was altered to be 10x worse, character developments (especially Lillie's) were removed entirely, motivations were altered, etc. And b) the Rainbow Rocket thing was hyped to hell from the Pokemon Co and then turned out to be atrociously lame, starting a pattern of underbaked content.

Incineroar was put into Smash. Back then I cared about the unfolding Smash roster and also hated Incineroar. I still hate Incineroar, but like, it's one offensive Pokemon among a generation where the other two starters are, in my opinion, awesome.

Recently @clickntreat and I reviewed every generation's designs, and I was shocked at how agreeable I found most of Gens 6 and 7, making me realize that it truly was not until Gen 8 when everything went COMPLETELY south.

Now, that said, I do believe that there are specific designs we can look at from these eras that show the beginnings of the bad design habits we have seen almost exclusively since.

I believe Passimian is one such example - in fact, I would be surprised if the designer of Passimian is not the designer who has overseen most Pokemon since Gen 7 - and even then, Passimian is probably one of their BETTER designs (ech). There are three defining problems traits of this design that will become the standard for almost all Pokemon going forward.

It is wearing clothes. Namely, the melon hat, which covers the top half of it's head. The specifics of how this melon hat looks are also bad.

It has random markings on its arms. These "leaf shapes" serve no purpose other than to fill negative space to distract from the fact that this design is, in fact, boring. Due to their shape, these also look very unnatural, unlike something like the markings on Ivysaur, for example.

It is based on something from our modern society, a quarterback.

Whether these things are bad or good is... well, frankly, objective. They are bad, and if you don't think that, you're wrong, thank you. Starting with the next generation, all three starters also have all of these traits!

Yes, indeed! Clothes! Random markings! And, being based on something very modern, often sports. I could also posit a fourth design trait in object usage - Passimian has his melons, Rillaboom his drumsticks, and Cinderace his soccer ball. Suddenly, Pokemon need objects to be interesting (cough to distract from the fact that they are bland designs cough).

But Passimian is not the only Pokemon that functions as a precursor to design direction. The next big contender is

Araquanid. Now, I want to be clear, I actually really like Araquanid! I think this thing is cool as hell - however, Araquanid consists almost entirely of simple shapes. Circles, triangles, and tubes, as I like to refer to these kinds of designs. Going forward, many Pokemon designs will rely almost entirely on this simple geometry, rather than actual anatomy - and my theory is that that's because they've started designing Pokemon from the ground up in modeling software, specifically so that they will be easy to make, animate, and merchandise.

The thing is, I feel that Araquanid, as a single Pokemon using these design principles among MANY Pokemon that do not, is a very strong design! With many of these design traits that I've pointed out, it is not that you can't make a good design with those traits, but that when almost every single design does it, it is bland and stale and frankly creatively bankrupt.

Of course, even with all of these design traits in mind, just how bad most Gen 8 and 9 Pokemon are is STILL surprising. There are surely other factors at play. But I highly recommend going through this visual list of Pokemon and paying special attention as you go from Gen 7 to Gen 8 - you may notice the quality downgrade, as well.

Well, this post started out as me saying, I'm going to be replaying Sun and Moon now. Hopefully I'll enjoy it as much as I did the first time, and I can look back on the games as the true last good Pokemon games, rather than BW. Gonna use Oricorio-Sensu because I just realized how much I love that thing. Wish me luck.
