It kind of just occurred to me how much the queer community is winning this summer. We had Nimona. We had Barbie (ace Barbie, Allan, just queer vibes all around). We had Good Omens season 2. We had Heartstopper season 2. We're getting High School Musical: The Musical: The Series season 4 and Red White and Royal Blue two days apart from each other. We even have The Witcher finally delivering with Jaskier (or at least it did in the first part, haven't watched part 2 yet).

I don't know where I was going with this. I'm just happy about it.

It’s the way so many people dismiss HSMTMTS because is from Disney Plus and they associate it to being a kids show and not as deep as the other teen shows out there and it couldn’t be more untrue. The characters are better written and have a more reliable personality than most of the teen shows making the rounds right now that people believe is actual television. Not just the ships are better and are delivering more representation and buzz than Netflix or Amazon combined but the actors from this show are so insanely talented and know how to handle both emotional and comedic beats flawlessly. And the performances are clearing a lot of people from those shows. Put respect on their name.

ten things that made me extremely happy in regards to ej caswells season four storyline:

him getting away from his father and becoming someone who is proud of himself without the need for validation from a toxic source

he has friends! and a girlfriend! and activities! and he isn’t wallowing in self pity like i assumed!

letting him clock richard bowen one last time

acknowledging that even though portwell wasn’t forever, it was something that was necessary for both parties and that both of them learned so much from each other

the fact that gina finally understands why he did those things last summer, and does understand that he wasn’t malicious in intentions. but at the same time letting ej still own up to the fact that he was in the wrong, showcasing his beautiful character development.

he was in the show!!!!

finally giving him a direction for the future, the literal only thing he’s been trying to find the entire show.

something so warm and comforting about how much the friendships in hsmtmts mean for the show. something about ginas confessions to her friends, something about jets happiest moment being singing on a stage with ricky, something about bigred knowing his best friend and looking out for him, something about ej stepping up to look out for his people everytime he can, something about all of them not letting emmys dream die, about them supporting both seb and carlos with their second chance, something about kourt and ash showing kindness to a classmate and gaining confidence from then on, something about their whole lives being changed bc a year ago they met this group of people that became home.

I'm so down bad for Maddox and Ashlyn that my three favourite scenes are:

3. The Redlyn breakup - the chillest break up, Red supporting Ashlyn going after Maddox and the most insane storyline of Red realising he's bi because he kisses Seb

2. Just the entirety of Maddox during opening night - having an existential breakdown over your love life that you break the sound controls and then just give up on your stage manager duties and disappear (probably to help quinn)

1. The confession - a scene I want on repeat: the explanations of how afraid they are of how much they like the other then the "should we just stay friends?" Before having such a love induced make out their just completely ignore Carlos being there. (Also Maddison giving up and telling Maddox to stop coming back to her when she clearly likes Ashlyn... my baby just needed that push)

I love all my queer children but these two are the wlw so I love them just slightly more.

#the hilarity of EJ seeing Maddox so focused on Ash that she forgot his question at the end of s3 that he immediately went and #CARVED THEIR NAMES INTO A TREE WITH HEART TO SHOW THEM WHEN THEY FINALLY GOT TOGETHER #i love them all #also i will not take arguments about the most crack storyline #Seb and Red kissing came out of no where and hit me like a metal chair #the french guy not actually being french and liking red felt right in my soul #granted i literally dont remember s2 and barely recognised him nevermind remember anything that happened between him and Ash #and jared(?) was just annoying #he showed up ruined madlyn first kiss admitted he liked carlos and then disappeared #its definitely a season i will rewatch at some point soon maybe as well as season 3 #hsmtmts #high school musical #madlyn #maddox x ashlyn #ashlyn caswell #hsmtmts season 4 #high school musical the musical the series #im sad its the end i wish i could have an entire season of just madlyn fluff #but im happy with two seasons of pinning and a brilliant confession

You know what I’m still not over, the flashback confession score bleeding into the second chance instrumental during the rain kiss. I love the rain kiss for so many reason but in essence it truly is like the climax of Rina’s journey up until that point, the car from homecoming where they first deeply connected, the box of chocolates that he got her on Valentine’s Day, the spin hug. All leading to the moment Ricky knows without a shadow of a doubt that he’s in love with Gina. And Gina knowing without a shadow of a doubt she’s in love with him.

so interesting that a certain group of shippers insisted that gina and ej’s conversation on the couch, where they established that they didn’t really understand each other, was fine because it gave them a chance to get to know each other and that’s all good and well but gina telling ricky that she didn’t know who she was or if she even liked herself before getting to east high and having that change because of him, appreciating that he sees and knows and understands her, that she craves that kind of understanding and gets to experience the great joy of being known because of him is so crazy when you think about it
