short stories September 🥰
°°°
sharing my top 7 books of short story collections (so far):
°
🍃 After the Quake - Haruki Murakami 🍃 Men without Women - Haruki Murakami 🍃 Japanese Short Stories - Ryunosuke Akutagawa 🍃 Cursed Bunny - Bora Chung
🍃 Death in Midsummer - Yukio Mishima 🍃 First Person Singular - Haruki Murakami 🍃 The Elephant Vanishes - Haruki Murakami
°
Finding myself drawn to short stories lately as my mind keeps wandering off (my attention span lately is so short, I don't know why 😅). Anyway, read these short stories since I found and read from many other posts that it's a good way of getting out of a reading slump but I think I enjoyed it a bit too much(?) since I started reading a series of short stories instead of intially planning to alternate between reading lengthy novels and these short stories 😅.
°°°
But would still gladly reread these mini, wonderfully unique stories if I ever get in a slump again.

Hello all and welcome to a new week! Hope it’s started off okay wherever you are in the world. I had my first day back at work after a week and a half off and it was tough but at the same time, it was good to get back to a familiar routine. Weirdly enough my chronic issues tend to prefer routine so even though I feel exhausted tonight, I know I’ll be used to it by mid week. Anyway, back to a BOOK HAUL!! I’m reading Distant Shores as a buddy read with my sister @chrissireads and we’re making our way through Kristen Hannah’s back catalogue at the moment. It’s an interesting story at the moment of a failing marriage but if I know Hannah’s writing, I’m expecting a bit of tragedy too! 😬 Next up is a short story collection by Yoko Ogawa. I love the covers of these specific releases and am trying to collect them all. In the tradition of classical Japanese poetry collections, the stories in Revenge are linked through recurring images and motifs as each story follows on from the one before whilst simultaneously introducing new characters and themes. Finally, another book added to my British Library Tales of the Weird Collection. The Platform Edge - Uncanny Tales of the Railways promises to be a collection of the greatest stories of strange happenings on the tracks! 🚂 I’d love to know your thoughts on any of these books or authors, let’s have a chat in the comments and have a great week everyone! 🤗😘 #bookstagram #bookhoarder #bookhaul #newbooksplease #morebooks #bookwormforlife📚🐛 #distantshores #kristenhannah #revenge #yokoogawa #shortstorycollections #theplatformedge #britishlibrarytalesoftheweird #mikeashley #alwayslookingfornewbooks #bookfever https://www.instagram.com/p/CewOaLDL8ZP/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I can now refer to 2022 (among other names I dare not type) as The Year of The Greatest Reading Slump, but it was also the year I started rereading books and buddy reading ☺️ I finished 2022 with one of my most favorite authors, with a collection of short stories, the genre I love 💜, that has the most promising title -“Liberation Day”. Let 2023 be the year of liberation from fears, liberation of territories, liberation from any boundaries that don’t allow our creativity to flow. Happy New Year, world 🌍🎆 #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #instabook #instabookstagram #myyearinbooks #georgesaunders #liberationday #shortstorycollection #americanliterature #americanauthor #postmodernliterature (at Tallinn, Estonia) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cm4T-AwrvoS/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Shoot The Horses First by Leah Angstman Review
‘Reading Leah Angstman’s work is like going back in time, a time when I knew that I am in good hands and the book will guide me through anything.’
I wish I could have ten more books from her. Or let’s just be greedy for a second and imagine that every time when I finish a book another one appears and I would have a never-ending supply of gold letters and heartfelt stories worth enough to be alive for. It might sound like I am overreacting and probably I am but I was so thirsty for these kinds of stories and the way she writes just resonates with something deep inside my soul that I thought I lost a long time ago. That part of me was alive the most when I was writing. Back then.

Scribbled Musings Check out my writing! It’s not the best but that means I’d love to hear any feedback or thoughts on it <3 https://www.wattpad.com/story/342689303-scribbled-musings?utm_source=web&utm_medium=tumblr&utm_content=share_myworks&wp_uname=IntrovertSpice62606&wp_originator=4E%2BqSj5uIK2nIfuIlb7PpVEIX1wHtmiNLIf1Rx0Em0BYmPwpV%2BvFv0mEwB4RVlrnQX489mDSIuq5a7b0i%2FGXV2FaUjFeJx8nGDHNc5Z6wtgLRiDwMxgefD7sQpQfzGdt A place where I can put all my (crappy) poetry and writing as I learn and develop my style. I'm gonna try to put something in here at least once a week, so thanks for being here!

5* review of Sandcastles by Lily Lawson
I’ve always enjoyed reading Lily’s poetry, so I was delighted to find out that she’d published a book of short stories. Covering a variety of life experiences, from marriages gone wrong to found family, to well-guarded secrets, these are stories that we can all relate to.
My personal favourites are The House of Justice and Aliens for Hire.
I received an ARC from the author. Thanks, Lily. This was a brilliant read.
***
The blurb:
21 tales of love, loss and the unexpected exploring what is to be human.
The cycle of life from finding love to challenging children, parents who misbehave themselves, and beyond, with a sprinkling of mystery along the way to keep things interesting.
Read cover to cover or dip in at random. There’s something for the briefest of moments to a well-earned break. Whatever time you have she has a story to share with you.

An assortment of short (and potentially idiotic) ideas (on Wattpad)
https://www.wattpad.com/story/353339761-an-assortment-of-short-and-potentially-idiotic
This short story collection only has two rules: You must write. And you must write without judging yourself for it. Why? Because I throw away too many of my ideas. Instead, I will now embrace whatever maddening bullshit my mind comes up with and make it into a story. A short one, but nevertheless. All stories will have their prompts or base ideas in the title, so you know what you're getting into (or wont know because I did a backwards sommersault in an attempt to make a prompt mine, dont judge me) and thats basically it. Some of the stories will be funny. Others will be technical training or writing within limits (who needs POVS. Who needs Locations. Who needs time and order. Who needs the letter E.) and all of them will have my trademark insanity inscribed into them, simply because they exist and I wrote them. Now. Sit down, get yourself a cup of tea and prepare yourself for whatever sledgehammer I will pummel into your faces. Love ya!
