longtime dc fan and i think a lot of people are angry because alex is obviously one of the most culturally relevant instances of misogyny in media. that being said being more culturally relevant doesn’t mean it’s the worst instance of misogyny and i think bumble definitely experiences more profound misogyny in the way the actual content is presented, if that makes sense
I get you, and that's a charitable way of looking at it.
I think what's rustling my jimmies is that like, there was a couple of WC fans being mildly dismissive of Alex in that note minefield, after dozens of comments of "fuck you how could you let the fridge woman lose" and "Bumble didn't deserve to win ANY rounds" and "how could A CAT experience misogyny." But then WE get blamed for the toxicity because THEY were butthurt that the Funny Cat People have the 'audacity' to win something they feel entitled to.
Like, we've gotta be endlessly charitable as we get openly insulted because they're upset about Alex losing, a very well-known and culturally relevant character with a legacy so massive we have a whole term named after her. But condemnations of "She's just a cat, letting WC into this poll was a mistake, Bumble can't even be a victim of misogyny" only started coming around once I started talking about it.
as if it's OUR fault people got passive-aggressive or even OPENLY aggressive towards us, and that we're "just as bad" for retaliating
But like you said, it's not a "Most Culturally Relevant Misogyny" tournament, it's a "Canon Misogyny Victims" tournament. And you're not even supposed to give a shit that Bumble died. The fat, woman abuse victim is beaten to death by a dictator, and your takeaway is meant to be, "It's so sad that Clear Sky is being blamed for murdering her, now they're all preparing for self-defense against a homicidal maniac, oh nooo :("
And I think that DOES make her deserve the win here! Alex is a MARTYR. Everyone with a brain agrees what happens to her is bad. It happened in her canon because it was bad. We talk about her and keep her memory alive. Bumble gets dismissed entirely out of hand because she's "just a cat in a kid's book" as if that doesn't make it worse, and as if the kid's book didn't treat a domestic abuse survivor like a moron for even asking for help.
Anyway, just to reiterate, I love DC fans. It's not all of you guys. Alex was done dirty and deserves justice-- and it's even kind of a shame that all she became is "The Fridge Woman." I haven't even heard people talk about how she was a wary, responsible person who was still ready to rock with Kyle's new weird glowstick powers, or that she was a journalist, or that she just got brought back in another edition as a Green Lantern only to be revealed as an illusion and re-absorbed back into Kyle's mind. Nope. Even her fans just remember her as The Fridge Woman.

I think an underlooked part of what shaped jin’s mindset was how even back in Torna, he was considered “property”. He and Lora spent their whole lives avoiding the authorities of Torna because they believed would straight up execute Lora to get Jin back, and no one ever denies it. and this has seemingly been a fear since Lora was a child. Jin had to hide his face everywhere he went. Maybe Torna wouldn’t have been cruel enough to execute a child, especially since the king seemed decent(?) enough, if not a bit distant. But the fact it was even a fear at all for Lora since she was so young is just awful to think about.
According to his past self’s journals, Jin and his old driver fought in a war of independence for Torna, perhaps what made him a hero to begin with. and because he’s a war hero for deeds he doesn’t even remember, the kingdom considers him owned by them. Which is on the nose in two different ways ngl. Both in how the Blades are seen and a wider metaphor of soldiers/state. idk it’s just very sad to think about

Thinking. Abt this but with Bones. Like. Post-Tholian Web? Post-Mirror Mirror?
For AOS, could be after Into Darkness and/or Beyond.
A Bones who's just. So anxious. So stressed. So overwhelmed that it starts taking a toll on his health. Maybe he doesn't even realise - or maybe he does and tries his best to push through it until it knocks him on his ass. Kind of in the vein of "You don't actually know how tired you are until you stop. And then you just physically cannot start again." It becomes his new baseline, a problem that just brews and storms in the distance.
And he just carries on. And keeps going and going and going until one day he realises that 'Oh fuck, I'm not okay' and has about 5 seconds of warning before he straight up collapses, doesn't matter if it's on the bridge, in the madbay, on a planet - he's going down. (Maybe a repeat of Tholian Web where he just straight up faints into Spock's arms? Full whammy, why not)
Maybe it's a high-tension situation getting resolved that does it. The pure relief of it reminds him of how tired he is. How tired he's been for a while. His body sees that momentary rest and goes "More of that, please. And I'm not asking."
And he's so rendered by it that he doesn't grumble about being coddled like he normally would when he wakes up. He knows not to fuck with the medbay staff - they're just as firm as he is on recovery, and that's not by accident - and he knows that Spock and Kirk will be hovering, because they see any problem as something they, too, should shoulder the burden of.
...And because they're some of the most protective people in the damned universe. And that goes for pretty much all the people on board the Enterprise.
In some scenarios, it's just a case of letting his body and mind rest properly. In others, there's a lot more recovery involved than anyone initially expects. Luckily for him, he has a found family who are determined to be there with him at every step. It just takes a couple reminders, every once in a while.

Needy tired sex is so underrated like imagine needing each other so much needing to touch them and for them to touch you straddling their lap and sinking down on their cock tiredly rocking back and forth tucking your head into the side of their neck as you can only let out sleepy needy moans
Oooooh I really like this!! And I love it with son's best friend bucky actually (I've missed writing him, he needs to come back)
But I can really imagine this if Bucky managed to get you to himself for a whole night, uninterrupted. You've maybe already had the kind of frantic, intense sex you're used to with him but time alone is a rarity and you can't help but crave the intimacy you're not used to receiving from your husband.
It's hard to tear yourselves apart on nights like that because Bucky feels like he has to touch you as much as he can now that he's got the chance. He'd have his fingers locked with yours or his thumb slowly running over your cheek bone or his hands trailing from your thigh, up over your hips and across your waist. He'd map the curves and contours of your body with the most reverent touch, leaving nothing unappreciated, telling you how beautiful you are with a sincerity that catches in the back of your throat.
It's so hard not to fall into the gentle, familiar intimacy of the moment he's created. You're both still pleasantly buzzing with the afterglow of your orgasms, a sleepy haze making you both more than a little drowsy but you haven't had enough of each other yet.
There's an unspoken understanding that these hours have to count. They have to matter. In the morning, you'll shower and get dressed and go back home to your husband. He'll return to his college flat and you have no idea when you'll be able to feel this close to him again.
"I don't know that I'll ever get enough of you. A lifetime wouldn't be enough." He whispers, his eyes trained on yours. You don't take the time to correct him and remind him that a 'lifetime' together isn't on the cards. You know he knows that, he might be young but he's not stupid. It's nice to feel wanted again, after years of being borderline ignored by your husband.
"You're too sweet for your own good." You pull him into a gentle kiss, your fingers curling in the short, dark hair just above the nape of his neck.
You're not quite sure how but before you know it, you're sat in his lap with your chest pressed to his and he's rock hard inside you again. It's much slower and more intimate than you both had patience for earlier but it's so damn satisfying.
"Fuck, you feel like Heaven." He groans, almost sounding pathetic as he grips your hips and helps you keep the steady pace he knows you both enjoy so much.
"Bucky, I n-need... I can't..." You whine, unable to articulate what exactly it is that you need from him in that moment. In truth, you need nothing more than what you have. Your body just craves more.
"I know, sweetheart. Believe me, I know." His hands map out your body from your hips, up your back until he's rubbing your shoulders while your head falls into the crook of your neck. You groan, low and filthy against his neck, enjoying the way his dick rubs your sweet spot, right where you need it to.
"Doing so well for me. Don't stop." It's an overindulgent level of pleasure. You'd have been more than satisfied, at least until the morning but with Bucky, nothing is ever really enough.
