"As above, so below"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
context: shinichi and kaito believed that yuusaku and toichi did not approve of their relationship, since they did not seem comfortable being with their sons-in-law. It wasn't because of that, they were just old fools who didn't know how to show affection like normal people.
Besides, they also had a little secret.

Hello and welcome to Day 11 of "Let's Explore My Plot Bunnies"
Tumblr media
Today I wanna talk about a plot bunny that has been on and off inside my brain and that, currently, has been going nuts ever since I explained the MDZS Magic Kaito AU.
The fandom for this plot bunny is not one I have spoken about on my blog yet - Katekyo Hitman Reborn.
More precisely, I have this as a Kakeyo Hitman Reborn (Detective Conan AU).
Working title: (A Mafia Boss?) No, I am a detective.
The idea starts with a change brought by the sealing of Tsunayoshi's Sky Flames.
Basically, instead of stunting his growth and clouding his mind (and you can't tell me those symptoms weren't at least halfway caused by the seal), Tsuna's seal acts a bit... weird. Weird as in, Tsuna ends up with "Kudo Shinichi Levels of Luck in Finding Dead Bodies."
Because of this, not only is Tsuna constantly encountering criminals (big or small), but also he is pretty much adopted by the police department of Japan. Yes, all of it. (Don't ask him how he ended up with more uncles and aunts than there are kids in his class.)
Tsuna, since he is pretty much followed by death everywhere besides his home and Namimori School (where Tsuna doubts even Gods would try to start shit because Hibari Kyoya is scary as fuck), ends up gaining an interest towards the law and towards the work of a detective. Hibari Kyoya, whose family is part of the police force, definitely approves.
In fact, he approves so much that he is giving lessons in self-defence (read: beating up) to Tsuna from a young age. All Kyoya has to say is that the "sky omnivore" is promising.
As the years go on, Tsuna ends up with a rag-tag team of kids that help him (read: get themselves involved) in solving murders/kidnappings. Tsuna even has a phantom thief that he faces every other week against. (I DO want to make that phantom thief be Kaito KID just because he is definitely a Mist Flame with Lightning secondary and Cloud Tendencies.)
The end result is that when Reborn comes to tutor Tsuna for the position of Vongola Heir, Tsuna has already (mostly unknowingly) gathered a separate set of Guardians on his own; is already trained by Hibari Kyoya in hand to hand combat and trained in armed combat by the police and, most importantly, IS part of the police force... and is vehemently against taking the position of Vongola Heir.
(Reborn is really going to kill Iemitsu for his blatant disregard towards his family's daily affairs. The idiot COULD'VE stopped his own child from joining the police force if he cared enough.)
Things to note:
Tsuna can still get his canon Guardians in this, but the way and the order in which he gets them will be different.
Hibari Kyoya is still scary as all hell in every universe, this one included. He is just more Alaudi (or was it Alaude?) coded than before cause handcuffs are more prominent in detective/police work.
Byakuran is probably gonna start laughing like crazy for about half an hour when he learns Tsuna is with the police force. Why? Because the irony of World's Best Mafia Boss (in other universes) being a detective and member of the police force in this universe is killing him.
Let Tsunayoshi have friends. Like seriously. Let him make friends through this profession/curse of his. (Whether the friends he makes OUTSIDE of Japan are part of the Mafia or not is another story)
Iemistu fucked up by not being around his family more. Now, he is definitely paying the price... Reborn wants to take his kneecaps as compensation for the bullshit he has to deal with now.
So, what do you think? Good? Bad? Let me know!
Honestly, I have soo many ways through which the seal could affect Tsuna and make him go a different path in life. But the Mafia still catches up to him. At least in this AU, Mukuro should be more... chill towards Tsuna cause he makes it clear he is part of the police - which isn't that much better in retrospect, but at least Tsuna is not ,nor does he want to become a Mafia Boss. Also, Tsuna probably has memorized all laws of Japan but mathematics still give him a headache (mostly because of his teacher).
Either way, I will end it here for today. I hope you guys have a great day/night and that you take care of yourselves!
See you tomorrow,
-TooManyPlotBunnies-Send Help

I like to imagine that Vivi navigates around people disbelieving in the supernatural. She believes even before she has concrete proof - the cave, Mystery, Shiromori, Lewis, etc. - and has no interest in arguing. People will believe what they want to believe.
Which doesn't annoy her any less, however.
Applying this to crossovers can be very funny. Let's take Detective Conan for example. The titular Conan doesn't believe in ghosts. Yes, he has some good instincts which I can accept.
But he's also got a death radar. And 'bad things are happening' radar. Conan has the argument on his side that bad things tend to happen. But with how he homes in on the location and the exact moment?
That's definitely a sixth sense, not investigative work or instincts.
And just the way his luck works, he and associated civilians regularly encountering murders and other crimes. But no, Conan claims it's nothing special.
Vivi would side-eye Conan so much for that. She knows by this point that a toxin reverted a 16-years-old teenager by ten years to a grade schooler. She has investigative knowledge coupled with an untainted perception of him and knowing stranger things have happened. Apparently to him, however, science is enough to explain even that.
But eeh, not her problem. If he thinks her silly or naive for her belief in the supernatural, not her problem. She's here for visiting her family and enjoying a vacation. Hot springs, haunted sites, and hot food are calling her name!
If there's anything she's judging Conan for, it's what he's doing to Ran and everybody else around him. But especially Ran. He has been lying to her for months and deceived her several times, to "protect" her. Made her doubt her own mind, when she should know what danger he and SHE is in.
Vivi has a visceral, hateful reaction to discovering that secret.
(She's still struggling with the consequences of Lewis' magic altering her memories. People indirectly lied to her about him, which was understandable because any memory of him used to hurt her. But they still lied. And Mystery hid an important secret with the intention to protect her, only for that secret to blow up in their faces.)
She understands why Conan is keeping that secret. She would be more sympathetic if not for how many people that are not Ran know it by now.
Some of the ghosts following Conan claim that he has connections to U.S.A. secret services. Some of them have been helping him maintain the ruse that he's not Kudo Shinichi (deceiving people included). They're hunting for the same organization.
First, what the fuck?
Second, no chancing to get the kid's deeper attention. He's curious. Vivi approves of that in a detective, but not here, not from him.
Okay, she's biased. Who can blame her?
She mentions the events of the Cave, around the cover story she's developed. She leans into her love for the supernatural to have people dismiss her. She can't do anything if Conan wants to investigate the Mystery Skulls, but she'll definitely make it more difficult. She'll also make fun of him the entire time.
Of course, it's at this point that a murdered pins their deed on Vivi.
Said murdered happens to push all of her issues and she tears verbally into them. (And maybe with her bat.) If said rant also indirectly calls out Conan and everybody covering for him?
Well, only she knows.

Shinichi analysis.
Tumblr media
I know it’s not really expressed a lot so not many people think about it. But Shinichi’s character is actually kind of sad. Notice how fast he recovers after becoming Conan. He just had his entire world view literally shrunk. And instead of dying, went through what looked like the most horrible agonizing pain of his body being forcibly shrunkin down with the thought that it would kill him. And you can see it in his eyes after he wakes up to the park police officer that he’s in shock.
Tumblr media
And while it was probably maybe a 30 minute time skip from when he was found half dëad outside to inside the med area where he is somewhat recovered and then realizes the reality of his situation. But after that he’s not given any more time to properly process or recover because now he’s on the run so he isn’t held up in some police station where he will probably be stuck for awhile since this child he has turned into doesn’t even exist.
(ALSO WTF WHY WOULD YOU SEND FULL ASS BIG SCARY DOGS AFTER A CLEARLY TRAUMATIZED CHILD)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Realizing he has nobody he can call or turn to in this situation, to having to walk all the way home in pouring rain (WHILE ALMOST BEING RAN OVER MIGHT I ADD) I imagine he would be a little more shaken up, he seems to play off the situation after that. Making fun of himself “how pathetic.” Over something he didn’t have control over.
Tumblr media
Everything seems so much bigger, and obviously he would never admit it, scarier. And before Agasa finds him on a whim you hear how hopeless he’s becoming because he has absolutely no idea what he should do.
And it makes me sad, because you see how happy he was before it all happened. Was his life perfect? No but you see how much he cares for Ran even if he doesn’t show it that much.
Pre Conan he treats murders like a puzzle. Like something of a game he has to solve. Because that was the way he was raised. When it comes to murder he’s become desensitized like many police officers but it seems that he was forced to do that from a young age (because let’s be real my dudes cursed) and his dad would let him around crime scenes. After the roller case murder when Ran is upset and crying Shinichi doesn’t really apologize or comfort her, rather he acts to say it’s normal or excusing it. Likely because his father did a similar things when he was (the first time around) young.
Like his father before becoming Conan he treats it like a puzzle more than a tragedy (not that it’s not and I’m sure he does care) but after being Conan he was forced to see it from below, from other peoples perspectives and this especially becomes clear in the moonlight sona case. He’s become more aware now that he’s a child again, and he starts seeing what Ran has to go through and learns to emphasize more.
Tumblr media
He was only 14 when his parents left the country leaving him all alone. And of course he would agree, he has the mindset to act mature and solve puzzles (which becomes crime) in order for approval. And not saying his parents don’t love them, because it’s obvious they do. But his dad sort of seems to play mind games with Shinichi.
If I had a child across the world in another country who I haven’t seen in 3 years and I heard something terrible happened to them and now their forced into hiding my reaction would be to comfort them or reassure them since they would clearly be traumatized even if they woudlen’t admit it because they want to be independent, I would not dress up and pretend to be the people who did that to him and make him think he and the people around him are in serious danger,p to the last minute where you pretend to kïll him, literally making him think he was going to die in order to “test his detective skills.” Like bro maybe not traumatize your 17 year old son?? Like he’s still young no matter how smart he is. I bet Yusaku went through something similar though and that’s why he acts that way.
He was finally getting his life together. He was going to try to ask out Ran and was getting the credit he deserved after 2-3 years of hard work. And then it was all ruined by the hands of a man with long silver hair.
Anyway tldr: Shinichi needs therapy :(

Final 30 binge:
1. Aww, Haibara worrying about waking Agasa. Reminds me of Agasa during episode 476-477. Agasa was obviously wearing Big Osaka colors, despite being born and bred Tokyo and neighbor to Spirits fan Shinichi.
2. Been a while since a not murder case.
3. Shinichi, when finally un-shrunk, takes Mitsuhiko under his wing to teach him some more intensive detective traits.
4. At this point, I'd downed about half a 750ml bottle of Tullamore, so my detective brain wasn't working right, but as soon as they said, "wasn't the same person on the phone." I knew it was the bike lady.
5. Listen, I have only a general knowledge regarding golf, but why is it always the 5 iron or similar thin clubs that are the murder weapon instead of the thicker 3 wood? I'd figure a thicker club would be better for bludgeoning. Then again, the 3 wood was used for this murder, so I guess it doesn't matter. Post note: Asked my brother with more golf experience. Wood clubs are essentially hollow. So there's that answer.
6. Congratulations, Shinichi. The assassin approves of you and your choice of girlfriend.
7. I'm sorry, did Takagi just pick up Conan so he could see over the desk? Takagi be like "Through this case, this is my child now."
8. Camel is the man who died twice.
9. Aww, Agasa and Haibara. Such an adorable father daughter pair.
10. Damn, thought this was gonna be one of those episodes where Kogoro actually solved things pretty coolly.
11. Haibara just tearing into Sanada.
12. Kazuha... just... Kazuha...
13. Takagi needs a mini-van. For when he's picking the kids up from soccer practice.
14. DB's copying the body builders speech pattern is funny.
15. I'm sorry. This episode is just way too over the top. I mean, there's always a bit of stretch, it's to be expected. But this?
16. I am both Agasa and Shinichi. I both understand the tricks and the who's who, but also I wanna watch while eating pizza and get through the binge.
Finished the binge, holding out my last thoughts cuz of spoilers.

Anonymous asks: Who are some of Naoto's favorite detectives
Ask me about Naoto | of course this is always open who do you think I a-
Tumblr media
There are a lot Naoto likes, but listing them all out would take forever, so I'm only putting a few choice ones here, but my point is, if there's a detective, there's a good chance Naoto knows and likes them. Anyway:
Sherlock Holmes — It would be remiss of me to not mention the deduction king himself. While she does judge a little (a lot) if you say you like mystery and only know him, she admires him a great deal. Sure, you can't actually piece together any of the mysteries before he does, but it's more fun reading him solve it. She even has a legally generic Holmes costume. If you were to ask, her favorite stories are The Hound of the Baskervilles and A Scandal in Bohemia.
(I have to mention Sherlock Hound, or Meitantei Holmes as it's known in Japan. Sherlock Holmes but everyone is a dog.)
Sam Spade — He's actually mentioned in P4 during one of Naoto's night time conversations and she happened to admire him. She says P4-kun reminds her of him, but we know that's a lie and the only correct option during this scene is to say she's more like Sam. The star of The Maltese Falcon.
Father Brown — This guy isn't a detective and Naoto isn't religious (she checked these out of the library rather than finding them in her grandfather's study), but Naoto found the contrast in methods fascinating. Compared to Sherlock, his reasoning falls under intuition, and as the famous quote goes: "You see, I had murdered them all myself... I had planned out each of the crimes very carefully. I had thought out exactly how a thing like that could be done, and in what style or state of mind a man could really do it. And when I was quite sure that I felt exactly like the murderer myself, of course I knew who he was."
Kogoro Akechi — I don't know what to say other than this guy is best described as the Japanese equivalent to Sherlock. The stories even have its own version of Arsène in the form of The Fiend with Twenty Faces. I can't say much about the stories themselves because it's in... Japanese and not much as been translated.
Kosuke Kindaichi — I also do not really have much to say on the actual stories because it's in Japanese and not much as been translated (again). The Wikipedia entry for him in English is laughably short, at least compared to how long it is on Japanese Wikipedia. He first appeared in The Honjin Murders, which is a locked room mystery. But the more interesting part may come from something in P4's Japanese script. In the King's Game, Chie compares Naoto to the Kindaichi family rather than the Kuzunohas. There's a manga/anime series that follows his fictional grandson and I don't think I need to explain any further why she made the comparison. I wonder how many people thought Naoto said corny things like "In my grandfather's name, I'll solve this case" lol.
Kyosuke Kozu — This guy, along with the previous two, are known as Japan's three greatest detectives. Naturally, I can't find shit about him in English, although two of the books related to him have been translated to English. He is fluent in six languages, can play the piano and his main job is assistant professor in the Department of Forensic Medicine, according to what google translate says but yeah. I mention him here, because he's, you know, one of the three greatest detectives.
Conan/Shinichi — Detective Conan is obscenely popular in Japan. It is also very long and still going. I really don't think I need to explain why, do I.....
Zenigata Heiji — He's more of a policeman during the Edo period than a detective, but he counts. He caught criminals by throwing coins, however that works. Of course, the name Zenigata may be familiar to some and indeed, Inspector Zenigata is his fictional descendant. While his competency varies depending on the writer, anyone who can come this close to capturing Lupin earns Naoto's approval. And the Lupin series happens to be a show she grew up watching.
Furuhata Ninzaburō — This guy is best described as the Japanese equivalent to Columbo. She also likes Columbo, but for sanity's sake, I'm combining these two together in one entry.

12. Royal verse
(Re: part two of fic ideas I’ll never get to)
I have to start by saying I have no business dreaming of this verse cause I know nothing about medieval times nor about royal family/court dynamics. That being said, I did have a dream and I continued the verse in my head. It’s been a while so I probably forgot a lot, here goes!
• it’s gonna be set back in the day with like swords and horses (dragons?) and stuff but I’m making it up as I go cause again this is not my realm (I guess like King Arthur/GOT shit except I know nothing about either of those fandoms)
• the Kudo family is in power and with Shinichi being their only heir, he’s obviously the next King. He takes this role very seriously and genuinely wants to be a good ruler
• the Miyanos are from a neighboring kingdom and an alliance would be beneficial to both of them, so an arrangement is set up
• neither of them want to marry each other, they haven’t even met in person, but they also know they don’t have a say so they accept their fate
• first impressions are kinda eh, but it could be worse. Shiho notes some baggage that she could care less about, but she does make friends with Kaito because I believe in kaishi supremacy (a brotp in this verse though sadly. I’ll have to dream of the stable boy steals the queen fic another day)
• they get married and do all the things a proper married future king and queen should do. There is a learning curve to get over during intimate times, but he gets it eventually. Even if they’re not in love, he does care about her pleasure which surprises her a lot
• slowly over the course they fall for each other, him more quickly cause this is my fic. But alas there is a kingdom to rule and a threat has been made on the Miyano’s land by a mutual enemy
• it gains momentum and Shiho cannot sit by and wait, so she asks to go home. She is of course denied since her job is to produce an heir which they have not been able to do despite trying. It’s only been a few months though, but you know how these things are
• she doesn’t listen and stows away anyway, Shinichi finds out and goes off after her even though the court does not approve. He does find her and saves her, but a lot of shit is happening and it’s way too dangerous to stay. She does manage to get in contact with her sister who tells her to leave and she promises to stay safe
• unfortunately the kingdom falls, her parents are killed and Akemi is nowhere to be found. This of course means war. But again as Shinichi isn’t the official king yet, the main concern is still to produce an heir. But knowing how these two have a rebellious streak, they’re sent away to another location until she conceives
• now of course she is not gonna be in the mood when her family has just been slaughtered. Which he also understands and meanwhile he wants to go back home to help defend their land. Their plans escaping leads no where, they’re not allowed to leave
• the tides turn in their favor, with part of her former land reclaimed and thus they’re allowed back on home grounds. But mostly because she is carrying their child now
• which means he can officially take over and be king now, while his parents retire and take over other responsibilities (most likely meaning gaining more land cause that’s all people in power care about). But of course they settle the war first, and they win.
• Shiho waits for news from her sister that never comes (admittedly I haven’t decided if she lived or not… we’re officially at the part of the fic where I’m just making it up as I go right now cause I can’t remember what my actual plan was) Shinichi grows on her and she does allow herself to actually fall in love with him. He’s been so supportive and he’s really good to her
• everything is good. He’s officially king, his queen is also in love with him and they’re about to welcome their first child. But that’s too easy, so of course someone who escaped the terrors of the Miyano’s kingdom collapsing found refuge here in the Kudos land but grew resentment and starts a rebellion to overthrow them
• it doesn’t exactly work, but they do find traitors within the realm. A beautiful baby girl is born and the kingdom is in celebration, Shinichi is thrilled even though the courts are upset and demand they try and have another child immediately because it needs to be a boy
• okay this is the reason why I don’t think I’ll be able to write this fic, cause while dreaming this verse my mind would not allow them to get their happy ending cause things keep going wrong every time they achieve it. Because the one person that started the rebellion is to be executed anyway so he decides to take his revenge which unfortunately means Shinichi ends up having to choose to save his wife or daughter
• he does try to save both, but he fails. And Shiho hates him for it. She thinks she’s cursed, she keeps losing her family. She still doesn’t know if her sister is alive and her daughter is now gone. All she has left is Shinichi, but before they even got together she had her whole family
• she obviously goes into a depressive state. And of course yet another invasion is happening cause news of a rebellion got out, so of course enemies are trying to strike when they think the kingdom is weak. Shinichi is stretched way too thin having to manage an impending war while his queen is plotting her own demise
• he decides to fix one problem at a time and try to do it without bloodshed first. So a pretend everything is going great gala is arranged. Shiho does play her role and fools everyone into thinking everything is fine when she is very much not. She still mourns, but her duty to her people forces her to pull it together for one night
• she’s gone by morning light. Shinichi goes mad trying to find her, only glad that talks of war have quieted down (thanks to his parents negotiating with other kingdoms and them fooling the rest that they’re fine, why else would they throw a party?) He finds her on the outskirts of town, she doesn’t want to see him since she still blames him for the loss of their child (though if we’re honest she’s more upset with herself)
• he apologizes (he did before also) and proclaims his love which she does not accept. He begs her to give them another chance (not that she has a choice cause divorce is not a thing here. She would just have to die or he dies, but she’s thinking the former) she refuses, but he’s the king so he wins so they go back to the island where they were forced to stay at until they conceived
• it’s also where they chose to keep their child’s gravesite. It was too painful for either of them to bear seeing it, so they chose to keep it here. And now all Shiho does is sit by her child’s tombstone
• the court has no heart and demands he produce an heir, but given the Queen’s inability to do so (since in their eyes it took them too long to conceive a child the first time plus it was a girl) so they take matters into their own hands, choosing other maidens who would be more than willing to carry the future heir to the kingdom (and maybe become Queen themselves in the process) This pisses Shinichi off, he makes it clear he will only have children with the woman he loves
• meanwhile this only adds to Shiho’s thinking that being born as a woman is a curse and this is her punishment for thinking she could be happy. Perhaps it’s a good thing her daughter will never get the chance to go through the same process as she is right now
• Shinichi refuses to be seduced and instead finally decides to sit with Shiho who wakes each morning to mourn their child. He normally waits until she finally sleeps at night to talk to their daughter himself, he didn’t want to trigger her more but evidently it’s not working. But also because he hates to admit that he failed
• he mans up and holds her, confessing his own guilt and how he wished it was him instead. He failed at being a father before he really got the chance, how can he be a good ruler is he can’t even protect his own family. Shiho stops blaming him, now that she knows he’s just as torn up about this as she is
• they actually try and have another child. They did try before during their grieving but it was more going through the motions and made them both feel worse. Eventually they managed to conceive again, but it takes a long while
• maybe they’re not meant to be parents together, she doesn’t understand why it’s not working. There must be something wrong with her. The kingdom needs an heir, so she gives her permission for him to have a child with someone else. He refuses, doubling down that he will only have a child with her
• they fall more in love with each other in the process and to help alleviate the stress of making babies. She starts getting into running a country. She was trained to do so for her own land, but now that she belongs to her husband she’s told to stay out of it. Shinichi values her opinion, especially knowing how smart she is, she was the key to several victories they held during the war and she was able to keep the people of the kingdom happy while he was away at the line of duty
• as assassination attempt is made on her life since women have no place in power and she isn’t even pregnant. Shinichi saves her, but she decides she hates being a damsel so she starts to take self defense lessons. At first he didn’t like it, thinking of himself as a failure that she has to learn to fight for herself. But she convinces him, if she had been able to hold her own in a fight then maybe they would still have to see daughter
• he allows her lessons to continue, but he insists on being her sparring partner (this is just because I want my golden otp represented, cause this is such a thing for my true otp) anyways they probably end up conceiving during one of these sessions
• it’s a boy this time! And everything is finally going great again. Except there is a jealous person who was promised by the court power and now that’s all gone. So another assassination attempt is made, but this time on Shinichi’s life
• Shinichi doesn’t hesitate to protect both Shiho and their baby, not realizing he is the target this time. Luckily the swordsman missed the mark and was apprehended but Shinichi is pretty badly hurt. Shiho has nightmares about this and spends the whole time by his side with their child, nursing him back to health
• because this is just gonna keep going if I don’t end it, and I really cannot deal with angst or mcd. We are going to say they lived happily ever after and nothing bad ever happens again (even though it probably does)

Both Shinichi and Sherry are targets for Bourbon, and Bourbon (as a BO member) will not miss any chance to get trust/higher ranking in BO, even if he sacrifices anybody for his selfish reasons. And For that reason there is high probability that he will tell the BO about "Shrinking effect" of APTX, especially if he discovers that Ai=Sherry & Conan=Shinichi.. he will get the trust he hopes for, and at the same time he will destroy the BO intrinsically after revealing the secret of APTX (which is related to Vermouth's secret by the way).. there's nothing prevent him from anything he wants to do!!
I'm sorry, no I respectfully disagree with you. Rei is not an asshole. He is not a senseless killing machine. He is selfish, yes, but he is not the villain you're painting him to be (and that's coming from a strong Shiho fan who was mad when I found out he was willing to hand her over to the BO).
And as I said before, Rei always manages to right the wrongs he's done to innocent people. And while he does appear selfish at times, he works at his own pace and with his own agenda and ends up fixing things eventually.
For example:
He saved Conan from being killed by the robber in the Bank Robbery Case. Which if you think about it, what would he have gained from saving a kid if he really is a bad guy? But he did, because let's not forget at the end of the day he is a police officer, and not a corrupt one.
Even though he noticed Conan went missing in the Detective's Nocturne's case, he made sure to eventually helped save Conan from the female robber.
And while he was willing to let Banba-san destroy the only piece of evidence that could prove his innocence, I'm going to guess he was counting on Mouri's deductive skills to prevent that from happening.
With the whole Mystery Train Case, turns out Aoyama-Sensei approved the fact that Rei regretted not being able to save Shiho which means although he planned to hand her back, he was also planning to break her out of the BO once and for all.
He went out of his way to follow the lost taxi receipt to save the detective boys in the Sweet and Cold Delivery Case.
In the Sakura and Jodie's memories case, he went out of his way and returned the wallet to the man whom he disguised as. A bad guy wouldn't care to do that.
In the Scarlet Arc, while he technically let the culprit who pushed the teacher down the stairs, he waited until the ambulance arrived then left the scene and notified the police about it.
Also with all his animosity towards Akai, he's never actually threatened Masumi's safety and doesn't harbour any ill will towards her.
I could go on and on but the point I want to make is he is a grey character. He does questionable things and has questionable motives at times (especially in the beginning) but at the end of the day, even when he does screw things up for others, he fixes it. Just like he did with Mouri in Zero The Enforcer.
Also when it comes to life and death, Rei isn't willing to sacrifice his allied. Telling the BO about the shrinking effect will get Conan killed, and Rei views him as an ally. Getting Vermouth's secret revealed is of no use to him at the moment since he needs her to support him with disguise and in general in the BO. And if what the whole regret thing mentioned in this post is true, it's veryyy unlikely now for him to sell out Shiho like that who will be discovered by the BO in no time if the shrinking effect is revealed. It makes no sense to me.

The development team also planned to visit (ILM), but the company was too busy creating special effects for the film. Some of the development team members went to the United States to visit the film's sets, which inspired the level designs. The developers had little communication with the film's creators and instead worked mainly with the film's promotional crew. Approximately three months before the game's completion, various materials related to the film were sent to the development team, who then added extra elements to the game. Action scenes from the script were added into the game. The team also faced a tight deadline to get the game finished and released.Early in development, the developers only had access to the film's original script. The development team had difficulty designing the game due to unfamiliarity with Model 3. It was the first shooting game to use Model 3, which Sega AM3 had never used before. Model 3 allowed the game to operate at 60 and 100,000 per second. Sega AM3 utilized Sega's, as was not advanced enough for certain features. Shinichi Ogasawara was the game's director. The development team wanted the sequel to have more tension. AM3 began developing the game in early 1997, after receiving permission from. Additionally hoping that they could make use of Sega's new relationship with Spielberg's company (the two companies were partnered for the chain of entertainment venues), producer presented her ideas to AM3 president, who approved. Having developed the original arcade game, a division of, became interested in making the game after hearing about the film. Development The Lost World: Jurassic Park is based on director 's 1997 film of the same name.

Day 3 of ShinRan week! It was too good of a prompt to miss!
More on the story under the cut
Rambling timeeeee
This one's a little sad and angsty - which you will see why later haha (ain't gonna tell you yet) It's incomplete and is historically inaccurate - I just mash whatever I felt like
- Sonoko is the second daughter from the Suzukis - a very high ranking family who's heavily in finance and merchants
- Shinichi is the first son from the Kudos - a high ranking family as well, but lower than the Suzukis
- Shinichi and Sonoko are engaged together since young due to family lineage.
- Ran is a commoner happened to meet and help Sonoko and Shinichi when they was in danger. This happened when they were young and Shin+Sono was on the streets for the fist time.
- Sonoko's very impressed with Ran, decides to bring her in as a maid, which later on becomes her exclusive lady-in-waiting. The relationship between the three of them when they're in private are almost like canon, aside from the formalities and topic of discussions and I'm sure other stuff haha
- And over the course, Shinichi and Ran fell in love.
- But they never officiallise it nor say it out loud because of circumstances in which...
- Sonoko's older sister, rather than inheriting the family name, falls in love with another noble and marries him, leaving Sonoko the duty to carry the name.
- Conan, Shinichi's younger brother by 10 years was born around the time when Sonoko's sister declared that she wants to marry the person she fell in love with, making it possible for Shinichi to marry into the Suzukis, rather than Sonoko marrying into the Kudos since Conan can inherit the name.
- By law, whoever is marrying into a family is unable to take on another lover because the duty of the person marrying into the family is to continue that family's blood.
- Meaning, Sonoko can marry Shinichi and take on a lover (Makoto, a commoner knight who she fell in love with), but Shinichi cannot take on a lover.
- And by another law, no legal/official marriage can occur between a noble and commoner, unless approved by the crown. Which basically never happened before.
- Sonoko is aware of her friends feelings, and encourage them to elope together. She suggests it to Ran before but was rejected, hence she tried to pitch it to Shinichi (who of course accepted the idea)
- She calls upon Ran, basically dresses her up in the name of "playing dress up" (which was common since commoners were not seen as equal) and sends her off to a place where the three of them used to play together. Ran is confused, but she goes along with it
- Which results in the scene above - Shinichi swearing a knight oath to Ran and proposing to her to elope together
- However Ran touched and happy that Shinichi was willing to go so far for her, but refuses.
- Going with Shinichi's plan meant that Sonoko has to marry someone else to succeed her family, but there's a lot of sht suitors who sees Sonoko for her family name and wealth and can bring harm to her. Ran doesn't want that.
- It also meant that Shinichi will lose his title and be on the run with her, since this is against the law. Shinichi's plan was also a little idealistic and doesn't properly understand how hard it may be. There's also the risk that it is only because of how comfortable he is right now, that he is comfortable to pursue her and love her.
- Love isn't able to overcome everything. It's not a fairytale after all.
- In the end, Shinichi marries Sonoko. Sonoko tries not to do it with Shinichi out of consideration to Ran and the fact that she has a lover already, even tried to give the first night to Ran. But Ran reminds her that she has to do it for the family and that Sonoko and Shinichi has her blessings.
- Makoto is eventually brought into the family as a concubine but is not allowed to touch Sonoko until a child is born between Sonoko and Shinichi.
- Albeit painful, Ran stays faithfully by their sides and does not engage in any romantic relationship until her death.

NANA Characters in Quarantine
I was inspired to write this since I had to go under quarantine earlier this month due to coming in close contact with a co-worker who tested positive for COVID. I returned to work this week and I’m doing just fine! If you wish for me to do this with one of the fandoms on my list, then feel free to request it!
~~Nana Osaki~~
Tumblr media
Does NOT handle quarantine well at first. Being unable to sing makes her jittery and cranky! Will literally rant and rave to anyone who listens and she’ll do that for hours!
But once she gets all of the frustration out of her system, Nana will come up with ways to make the best of the lockdown. Surprise, surprise, they’re mostly music based!
Will use this opportunity to come up with new material and has video calls every night with the band to discuss it. They’re not gonna sit around and be lazy when they could be getting creative as far as she’s concerned!
If she’s with her S/O or Ren during the quarantine, then it’ll make things much better for Nana since she’ll have someone always around to talk to and just share company with! Cuddles! Lots of cuddles! Just don’t tell anyone though.
If Nana is alone during lockdown, then her anxiety will definitely spike and she’ll have panic attacks more often. When that happens, she’ll usually call or text someone while using the paper bag method to keep herself calm.
~~Nana Komatsu~~
Tumblr media
Is pretty bummed about the lockdown but doesn’t want to complain and prefers to make the best of it instead. Will definitely be talking Nana down and off the ledge when she gets too annoyed.
Decides to make BLAST and Trapnest masks to sell online which become extremely popular much to her delight. Yes the bands approve and yes Hachi is making masks for them!
Is the most likely to gain weight during lockdown. Will look up recipes online and try them out which is the cause of said weight gain. Hachi loves food after all!
You can definitely expect to see Hachi on social media a lot and it’ll be her main way of keeping in contact with her friends and family. Livestreaming and making cooking videos will definitely keep Hachi occupied alongside her mask business!
If Hachi is with her S/O, she’ll definitely be doing many things with them and trying to make them a part of her videos which will be very cute and adorable! Awwwww!
~~Nobu Terashima~~
Tumblr media
Takes the lockdown quite well. He’s pretty introverted so being alone and isolated for a while doesn’t affect him as much as others.
Uses the free time to write songs and new material just like Nana and they call every day with new pieces and ideas.
Spends a lot of time on social media and donates to a lot of humanitarian causes, persuading fans of BLAST to do the same which always succeeds.
Will gladly fight anyone who thinks the pandemic is a hoax, is an anti-masker, or just don’t wanna obey guidelines. You’re not gonna get other people sick on Nobu’s watch!
Likes to livestream and play music for his fans whether it be covers or original material. Hachi is one of his mods and his biggest supporter.
~~Shinichi Okazaki~~
Tumblr media
The lockdown affects his living as a gigolo (if he still does it by then) so you’re damn right Shin doesn’t like it! He hates being restricted and you can expect long-winded debates between him and Nobu on how the pandemic should be handled.
If Shin has an S/O and is with them during lockdown, they can expect a lot of sex and overall intimacy! No one is surprised if Shin ends up getting said S/O pregnant. If he’s gonna be cooped up in the house for a while, then he could at least get some action out of it!
Is lazy AF during lockdown and isn’t interested in music or social media. In fact, don’t expect to hear from Shin during quarantine at all. Everyone has to initiate contact with him first and yes it pisses them off.
The only way to get Shin to do something productive is if his S/O threatens to cut him off sexually and goes through with it. He’ll do anything to get some WAP! Speaking of which, expect to see Shin dancing to music and expect to hear it playing a lot.
The only social media posts Shin will be making is photos of him and his S/O as well as getting on Nobu’s nerves. Shin gets tons of followers because of his looks but his heart is for his S/O only and he proudly displays that!
~~Yasu Takagi~~
Tumblr media
Anticipated the lockdown and went shopping beforehand. He’s always prepared.
With an S/O, Yasu will use this opportunity to get closer to them and have deep conversations that can last for hours. Also lots of cuddles and affection! Yasu’s S/O will definitely be spoiled!
Yasu will be working from home so expect to see him on his laptop a lot. He will be doing video calls frequently with BLAST and upper management at Gaia as well as his law firm if he’s still a lawyer.
Likes to binge-watch YouTube videos and browse on Reddit. He likes to interact with his favorite YouTubers and give advice on Reddit like the kind person he is. Yasu will also donate to humanitarian causes like Nobu does.
Acts as the peacemaker during arguments between Nobu and Shin. Will also calm Nana down if her anxiety flares up. Got any problems? Call Yasu! He’s always available!
~~Ren Honjo~~
Tumblr media
Gives no shits about the lockdown and is zen AF. He has to stay inside for a while? Ok!
Is mostly gonna spend the days in bed with his S/O (if they’re with him) and just wants to be close to them. Sleeping is Ren’s best friend!
If Ren is still using drugs, then he’s gonna be unbearable to be around since this means he’ll have to go through withdrawal and will have no way to get the drugs.
Will be unreachable during lockdown if he’s with his S/O. They come first as far as he’s concerned and he wants to make up for lost time with them as much as possible.
Will play music just to brush up on his guitar skills. May join Nobu on one of his livestreams every now and then and play with him as well as chat with fans.
~~Reira Serizawa~~
Tumblr media
Has the same reaction as Nana when it comes to the lockdown and has bitching sessions with her about it too. Everyone is annoyed (except Shin) and if anyone tries to interrupt, they get bombarded by Reira and Nana to the point of not being able to get a word in.
Is bored AF and literally doesn’t know what to do with her time. Calls everyone and annoys the hell out of them to the point where they block her number. Reira just wants some company! 🙁
Spends the most time on social media out of everyone and mostly sings songs for her fans. Yes she takes requests and yes she gets a lot of them. Joins Nobu on his livestream whenever Ren is present and provides the vocals for their music. It instantly goes viral as one would expect.
If Reira has an S/O, they can definitely expect her to be clingy and trying to always have their attention. If they’re working from home and have to do video chats, Reira will definitely be in the background and will bring you things if you ask. She may or may not be appropriately dressed.
Loves to listen to other musicians on Spotify and will shout them out and uplift them. If anyone sings a cover of one of Trapnest’s songs, Reira will cry with joy and happiness!
~~Takumi Ichinose~~
Tumblr media
Takes the lockdown in stride surprisingly enough. He doesn’t want to risk getting sick nor does he want his bandmates getting sick.
Decides to relax more instead of working which shocks most people. If Takumi has an S/O, he’ll want them to stay with him but if they can’t, he’ll settle for calls and texts.
Sex, sex, and more sex! His S/O will definitely be worn out unless they have a high sex drive and if they get pregnant, Takumi will be happy and expects it to happen unless you use birth control.
Likes to try new challenges and will have a YouTube channel dedicated to that. Such content includes eating a Carolina Reaper pepper, drinking very strong cocktails, and gaming-related challenges. Yes Takumi is a gamer and his rage is legendary.
Does weekly video calls with the band to make sure they’re taking care of themselves and staying safe. No one’s getting sick on his watch!
~~Naoki Fujieda~~
Tumblr media
Hates the restrictions and whines about being stuck in the house all day, everyday. He wants to have fun damn it!
Will do anything and everything to keep himself busy and if he has an S/O with him, they’ll be dragged into it too! Naoki doesn’t want you to be bored!
Will do challenges with Takumi and plays video games a lot whether it’s by himself, with his S/O, or with Takumi. His livestreams are a riot and there’s plenty of laughter to be had, especially if Takumi is present.
Likes to upload skits and rants that become quite popular due to how funny and true they are. Also gives advice to people which actually works and makes their lives better.
Always makes sure his appearance is on point and likes to promotes fashion brands, ideas, and trends. Naoki loves beautiful things so expect to see a lot of pics of just that!
~~Junko and Kyosuke~~
Tumblr media
Kyosuke takes the lockdown in stride while Junko panics. Junko ends up furloughed (she’s a salesperson) so she worries about finances.
Kyosuke comes up the idea of doing art commissions for money and it becomes a huge success. Junko decides to join in and also makes and sells masks with Hachi.
Their sex life becomes much more active during lockdown and it’s quite noticeable with how relaxed Junko is. Teasing them about this will just make Junko act like a tsundere and Kyosuke act smug.
They network with other artists worldwide and become quite involved, especially in the black community.
Kyosuke watches various livestreams while Junko sticks to services like Netflix and Hulu. Kyosuke is a mod for Hachi’s livestreams and Junko catches up on her favorite shows while live-tweeting with fellow fans of said shows and having discussions.

Hey there! 😃💐🍫
I recently read a fanfiction (post organization showdown) regarding kaito and conan (after confessing their real identity to furuya) getting recruited by zero for psb. Initially during the contract signing it seemed that they would both be in same ranks as trainees under Furuya. But when actual work started i realised that Conan was getting trained to be an agent who will be filling in Furuya's rank in future, while kaito is getting trained to be a collaborator (which kaito does realise to be a pawn role). Not only that, Furuya made shinichi his "handler" when shinichi himself was a trainee.
Although kaito was pretty much accepting of this and infact happy with it, I am absolutely not able to digest it😭.
I kind of already imagined it that Kaito wanted to become a police officer since childhood, yet his kid circumstances made him bury that dream. Now that Furuya had given him an opportunity he finally got hopes that he could become an agent just like zero. He had started to admire Rei as an idol. That is precisely the reason why he accepted the contact in the first place. But now what he has to face everyday is absolute minimum interaction with Rei (while shinichi gets to meet and directly work under rei as Rei's personal trainee), never getting direct orders from Rei instead getting them though shinichi, conan getting all the credits for any cases they solved together, conan being introduced to all other agents him being the sidekick of conan, and when conan is in trouble Rei contacting him just to know the welfare of conan (since kaito and conan are still best friends inspite of kaito being jealous of conan because of rei) etc. Kaito knows it that he's equally talented and skilled as conan, even better than conan when it comes to all works other than detective ones like spying, reading people, etc etc list goes on. Yet he's not given equal importance or respect just because of his criminal background.
When kazami informed him that his best friend Conan is getting trained to eventually succeed Rei, that was his breaking point (my breaking point to be honest 😅). He couldn't take it anymore and Furuya seemed to be completely unaware of his inner turmoil. 😭😭😭.
I really want a happy ending but I'm completely unable to image a happy ending.
Could you please write a oneshot on how will Rei understand kaitos feelings and they have an happy ending...
Ps. And i promise i tried to shorten the length of this ask but i don't know how to😔😔.
And im very sad about this kaito being conan's collaborator thing. Just imagine, he has always been a topper in studies, sports and every damn thing anyone can image, yet he's asked to be even lower than a trainee officer forever. Like come-on, everyone knows it how skilled and valueable he is. I empathized so much with kaito that my feelings got hurt instead of his🙈🙈 when will Rei understand this situation 😭😭😭
Hey 😊
It sounds like such a good fanfiction. (I agree, Kaito is probably more fit, or at least equally fit to be a successor. Also, in the manga, I've never understood everyone's hate for him? Because as far as I remember he always returns the stolen good to the people it actually belongs to, doesn't he? Or am I confusing stuff right now? 😅) Do send the name of the writer! (Though I don't know how I feel about getting my emotions wrecked like that while reading).
Unfortunetly, I do not feel comfortable writing essentially a second part of someone else's work though - especially without their direct approval. However, again, I'd love to read the work if you want to let me (and possibly other ppl here) know its name. 🥰

If Ran has an older brother, what do you think will be his reaction with her relationship with Shinichi?? Do you think he will be like Kogoro??
Ahh this is a cute ask! And also so funny because for some reason the first person to enter my mind when I read ‘Ran’ and ‘older brother’ in one sentence is Shukichi HAHA. I mean, maybe because if Ran indeed had an older brother, the brother would be sweet and caring, calm and collected yet can still crack jokes and be bubbly, protective but not entirely strict (like Shukichi) when it comes to his younger sister!
That being said, the older brother will definitely approve of Shinichi. :3 Big factor is because he knows him ever since he was young. I could imagine all three of them as childhood playmates, the older brother as the watchful eye sitting under a tree reading a book while Ran and Shinichi ran around the park playground. The older brother would also treat them ice cream on a sunny day! And he would always side with Ran whenever Kogoro reprimands her for frequently hanging out with the young detective. He’d be the best brother and guardian to Ran, considering their family’s circumstance and the early separation of their parents. And for all we know, he might even be Sonoko’s accomplice in pairing the couple together! He’d be all heart eyes once he finds out about their relationship! Ahhh I stan a supportive older brother for Ran!

that was a great post of yesterday that one with the websites. What manga, underground, would you recommend to buy, to make it easier which ones did you buy from them? i don't know where to start theres a lot there, would appreciate some recs. xx
i’ve bought from all of the stores listed with the exception of the ones that are solely in french or italian, because i don’t speak french/italian (but i am still aware of those stores due to their relative prominence in the international alternative manga scene in general). i honestly don’t think there’s any one place to start, and the books those places are stocking now are different than the ones they were stocking when i bought from them. since you sent this in english and idk what other languages you speak, i’ll recommend you my personal top pics from what they have in english available now.
glaeolia is an anthology of alternative manga with many incredible and unique artists, recently released by glacier bay books (very limited stock), which might be a good place to start if you want to sample a variety of modern underground artists.
hollow press (publishing house that i forgot to add to my original post because i’m an idiot) has also released an english translation of hospital train, one of the few manga by prominent underground ero-guro illustrator daisuke ichiba.
drawn and quarterly:
a single match by oji suzuki (english anthology) -- the first underground manga i ever read (and one of my favorites to this day)
the box man by imiri sakabashira
the sky is blue with a single cloud by kuniko tsurita (english anthology)
good-bye, the pushman, and abandon the old in tokyo, a trifecta of yoshihiro tatsumi english anthologies
trash market by tadao tsuge (english anthology)
red snow by susumu katsumata
red-colored elegy by seiichi hayashi
black hook press:
kemono ki by tadao tsuge
that miyoko asagaya feeling by shinichi abe (english anthology)
breakdown press
fukushima devil fish by susumu katsumata
red red rock and other stories by seiichi hayashi (english anthology)
outdoors by yuuichi yokoyama
the pits of hell by ebisu yoshikazu
all of these come with my official stamp of approval and are pretty excellent places to start as far as exploring the depth and variety of the alternative manga scene in english.

Hi! I saw your list and that make me so excited. My request is ShinRan for Arranged or Foreign Thank you
Thanks so much for the ask anon!! I really enjoyed doing this one. Of course it got a little out of hand cause I have no self control so it is extremely long! Further in the story you’ll probably notice I had the other language being spoken as Japanese. I am not fluent and my knowledge of the language is very slim! Anything in the story was translated from google translate which I know is not a good source but if you notice the mistakes, I do apologize! Feel free to correct me and I will try to edit it as I go. Also, I know I say it every time but I am so sorry for the wait. I work in a pharmacy so as you can probably guess, work has been crazy during all of this covid stuff! I hope everybody is being safe and healthy and that even if it is such a small thing, that I can provide some decent entertainment for someone that is stuck in quarantine! Be safe y’all! Arranged~ Person A is royalty and has to wed. They choose Person B, and B is not happy about it
Foreign~ Person A and B have been arranged to marry to keep peace between their lands. Too bad Person B can't understand a lick of what their fiancé has to say
oOo
"It's the law."
Shinichi rolled his eyes before petulantly saying, "I thought you always said my word was law."
The old man sputtered, having his words twisted around. Finally his adviser waggled a finger at him. "Your father will not be pleased by this, Shinichi-kun!"
"Is he ever?" Shinichi shrugged uncaringly and reaching his blowing point, the adviser stormed from the room, almost knocking into the head guard as he made his leave.
Staring at where the old man had made an angry exit and back to the Prince, Hattori chuckled. "I take it you're still looking for a bride," he called casually as he entered the dining hall.
Shinichi snorted before rolling his eyes. Not bothering to acknowledge the guard, he slammed his elbow on the table and braced his chin in his palm.
"You know the more difficult you be, the longer and more painful this process will be," his friend said in a sing song voice.
Huffing, he still refused to move from his position. "I could care less how long this takes. If they're worried about that, then they should call this whole thing off."
Hattori actually full on laughed at that. "Yeah, you know that's never going to happen," he said, his lips still twitching from trying to contain his giggles.
The Prince frowned. Of course he knew that but he could always hope.
"Come on," Hattori baited as he sat himself on the armrest of the chair the Prince sat in. "What was wrong with the last one? She was pretty... Well endowed," his friend wiggled his eyebrows as his gaze shot to his chest playfully.
His friend was joking. They both knew that there was no way he'd ever settle on Princess Momiji. So spoiled, and her voice grated on his nerves. She was pretty all right but she was too aware of that fact and when she realized her womanly wiles would not work on him- she had tried them on his guard.
She was not his worst option by any means. At least she was the same age. Shinichi was not really a vain person and looks were by no means what he based his decision on, but he had no desire to marry someone that could be his mother.
"You're being too picky, Shin-chan," his actual mother griped. "Maybe I'll just choose for you."
His eyes had gone panicked at the threat. He could just imagine her choice. Bubbly, full of energy, never a quiet moment. Someone that was exactly like her. And he would sooner throw himself off his balcony then be forced to share a bed with someone like that.
There was one thing he would agree on. Shinichi was being picky. He had met just about every Princess that was eligible for marriage. And not one of them were what he wanted. None of them were all the same either. Some of them wanting as much to do with him as he wanted them. Which meant not at all. Others were all over him and he knew he would never get a moment's peace.
One thing they all had in common though- their kingdoms. Each one of them had their own laws; their own norms they needed to abide to. But for the most part, they were pretty similar to his own kingdom's and Shinichi didn't understand the point of marrying one of them when they had nothing new to offer his people.
His kingdom was not struggling. His people were flourishing; the society thriving. Which was likely why he had so many offers. Because his kingdom had so much to offer while theirs had nothing but a dowry at best. And he had no need for that. He had plenty of money. He had plenty of land.
Shinichi didn't know how to explain that- or rather he did, and everybody just didn't understand. It was out of complete desperation that he had finally made his choice however. After being summoned by the King- his father, he knew he had taken too long. If he didn't have someone in mind, then a bride would be chosen for him.
But as he stood in his father's study- staring angrily at the desk his father sat before as he practically got reprimanded, his eyes focused on the map that lay sprawled out.
"How about the kingdom in the northern islands?" The thought had hit him as he continued staring at the map- the little cluster of land that was out in the middle of the ocean.
"Northern Isles?" The King furrowed his brows before noticing his son's gaze and following it.
Shinichi could understand his father's trepidation. The Kingdom of the Islands wasn't necessarily their enemy, but they also weren't their allies. After the Great War, and the threat of other more powerful kingdoms showed their colors, they had resorted themselves to complete isolation. That being said, it was a practically unknown kingdom- an entirely other world just to the north of them.
"Getting a response- let alone a positive one, is not likely," his father still appeared confused. "That and we don't even know if they have someone that is eligible for a union with you."
The King caved however. He would send a messenger with their offer. But Shinichi had already been warned.
"If this falls through- I am choosing for you."
The threat made Shinichi sweat. Not that he didn't trust the King. He trusted him more than the Queen. It was just the idea of his choice being stripped away from him.
The plans did not fall through. The response was not quick nor was it immediate, but they had indeed responded. The only thing was, the Princess would not be leaving the islands. Not until he came to visit and presented himself formally.
And got an approval.
As promised, the King left the decision up to his son. So Shinichi packed his bags.
oOo
Though many had traveled to his kingdom in hopes of having their daughter cross his eye, this would be the first he actually had to leave his own land as a possible suitor. Not that it was unusual. It was actually quite odd that he hadn't been doing it that way. But what was more unusual was the amount of effort he was putting in. The amount of effort he was putting in on trying to woo a woman he had never met let alone seen.
Well, some didn't understand but he knew the King was able to figure it out easily.
A foreign land. A foreign kingdom. Foreign Princess. There was so much to be gained from that. Knowledge wise anyway. And since he was confident his kingdom didn't lack anything else, that's all he wanted. He didn't even care to know what the Princess looked like.
And there was so much to learn about this place. The moment they were in what was considered their waters, Shinichi could already feel it from the way the humid air just lifted. The days that he was used to in his kingdom were hot ones and sometimes even the nights. The sun was always out and blazing while there was hardly ever a rainy day to cool it down.
Here, as their ships pulled even closer, a fog seemed to surround them. But the waters were calm and the mist, relaxing. Thankfully they had no issues docking even though the fog was not something they were used to though according to his escort, was very much the norm here.
Shinichi was fascinated either way. He took in the architecture of the buildings, the way people dressed, the way people looked in general. It was so different to his own land and people. He was thankful that if anything, no matter how this meeting went, at least he had seen a place so refreshingly new. Honestly, he envies what their palace looked like and was amazed of how open it was. There were no guards and practically no doors. The buildings for the most part were without windows and if they had them, they were open wide.
And he realized, there was no fear for safety here. Everybody was so open and trusting and though he got quite a few bizarre stares, nobody looked at him in any way short of polite. Shinichi was fully amazed.
But the most baffling thing yet- he needed a translator.
"The Princess can not speak in your tongue."
Shinichi almost couldn't believe his ears. He wanted foreign but maybe this was a little too much. . . How could he marry someone that he couldn't even speak to without someone else standing there to translate for them? Of course he knew that she'd have to learn his language but . . . could he really make that work. . ?
Still, he came all this way. He would meet her. It would be rude to make such a bold offer and to just leave without a word. Not to mention his father would be furious with him and also. . . be picking his future bride if he came back alone.
Shinichi shivered at the thought.
But upon introduction, the way his breath stuttered and how he could practically feel a nervous blush crawling up his neck, was humiliating. That and his instantaneous thought.
He could make this work.
"Her highness, Princess Ran."
The translator was who pulled him out of whatever reverie he had been trapped in and hurriedly, he snapped his mouth shut after having realized it was slightly agape. Stumbling over himself, he quickly bowed his head forward in respect as well as gave a greeting that he could briefly hear being translated to both monarchs.
It was at the quick quip that the Princess replied back that had him looking up slightly from his still bowing position. Of course he didn't understand a word she said but from her tone. . . he could guess. Still, he found himself looking to the translator expectantly.
The man cleared his throat awkwardly. "Uh. . The Princess welcomes you and your guests. Says she prays you had a safe journey." His eyes were not meeting the Prince's as he spoke.
Yeah- that was definitely not what she said . . . Even now, she was glaring at him with such discontent till finally as if getting sick of looking at him, she looked away, turning her nose up.
Figures. The one Princess he thought he could actually tolerate and she wanted nothing to do with him.
oOo
After their initial meeting and at the refusal of his escort to translate anything the Princess actually said, dinner was a . . tense affair. The King and his wife were welcoming enough. Albeit they obviously didn't trust his intentions quite yet but they hadn't showed any outward malice like their daughter had. It also probably didn't help his image in their eyes if the Princess couldn't even bare to say something the slightest bit kind to him.
Even though it would all have to be said through his escort, Shinichi tried to begin any conversation with her. And each time the translator would look at him almost tired, as if asking if Shinichi were really going to make him try to talk to her again. Shinichi couldn't very well respond properly if he didn't know what she was actually saying to him. It was clear she didn't think highly of him and that the escort was merely trying to keep them cordial. He knew they were aware of how influential his kingdom was and it was clear he didn't want their Princess to risk making him angry with her disrespect. But he couldn't fix what he didn't know.
It was exhausting. And the language barrier was making it all the more frustrating. He was a full day in and had somehow angered the very woman he had basically already proposed to. Shinichi wanted to yell at the escort to cut the formalities- to just tell him what the Princess was saying. Before he could have the chance though, she was already spouting words that sounded as aggravated as she looked. The King responded in kind with the same amount of annoyance but this time, directed at his daughter.
Shinichi could only watch, lost.
The translator gave another uncomfortable cough. "The Princess is not feeling well. She apologizes, but she'd like to take her leave."
Shinichi was pretty sure she wasn't sorry at all but still, he nodded his head slowly while looking at her. "I hope she feels better."
If possible, she seemed even more angry with his response and in a huff, she was spinning out of her chair and exiting the dining hall.
Not long after that, they all excused themselves. Of course his escort showed him to his room. But Shinichi couldn't help but want to wander- though at the moment it may not of been a good idea. He was in foreign lands as it was and already things were tense between him and the Princess. He didn't want to aggravate the situation even more by offending their hospitality- though he'd say what the Princess showed him could hardly be called that.
That line of thinking lasted till he woke up early morning. He was usually a late sleeper but he figured due to the unknown environment, his body woke him up sooner than usual. And he sat in his designated room for about thirty minutes before he concluded that this wasn't going to work.
The Princess already showed she held no interest in his proposal- which was disappointing but there was nothing he could do to change that. The woman wouldn't even look at him unless she had to. So Shinichi figured he'd soak up this opportunity as much as possible for as long as he could. He was only invited to be here for a week, which would shorten if they gave him a response to his proposal earlier. He already had a feeling he'd be turned away so there was no use on dwelling about it or worrying if he'd upset her further. This was a new place for him- a new Kingdom. They spoke another language, held different customs. He would experience everything within his reach before he was forced to leave.
He was up, dressed, and wandering the palace halls in no time.
Again, he couldn't help but be struck by the beauty that went into the kingdom itself. Natural light flooded their halls but the fact there were no windows allowed the cool breeze from outside to flow through easily. Shinichi couldn't believe how . . . open everything was. Had they never had to deal with a threat before? To not even have guards walking around the halls- it amazed as well as reassured him. It was nice for once not to have someone breathing down his neck constantly.
This all was almost like a vacation. A vacation to get him a wife . . . but still-a vacation! He hadn't had one of those in . . well ever. The past few years had been his parents scrambling to get him engaged. As the days passed on, the scrambling got more hectic when they realized he was not making it easy.
But here, it was so open. For once he could experience a nice, sunny day without it being unbearably hot outside. And he had hardly got to experience the town when he arrived. He had been hurriedly rushed to the Palace but that was mostly by his guards wanting to get him somewhere secure. Now that no one was there however, he wondered to one of the larger windows.
He was not insane enough to take a leap from this high up but from this vantage point he could at least look upon what he had walked right by. And it was. . tiny. Not tiny in a bad way but compared to where he lived, the town was so small and quiet. And underdeveloped. But again- that wasn't in a bad way. It was fitting to the kingdom he was standing in. There were more trees and it was all colorful. There were even more animals which had him surprised. Again, his town was too large and noisy for anything to want to come close. And that was if he could ever see over the giant stone wall that served as a barrier between him and his people.
There was no barrier here. And he envied that.
Wind brushing his hair, the tree that was just beside the window finally caught his eye. Like everything else that was outside, it was so bright and full of color. It was filled with vibrant purple flowers that he definitely had never seen before. They were . . breathtaking. And he had never been one to care about such things but even he found his hand reaching out.
He wanted to take one. See if he could possibly press it into his journal to take back home. He had never seen any flower with such bright petals and he was curious if someone at home would be able to identify it for him. Someone he could ask without the use of that terrible translator.
Suddenly someone was yelling out. And from the way he was all alone, he could only assume it was directed at him. Before he could even look over though, his hand that had been leaning forward was roughly slapped and had him stumbling back in shock. Hand ringing from the sharp sting, it was probably funny how he stared at it- eyes wide and blinking.
No one had ever raised a hand to him.
Staring intently where he had been hit, he saw that it was already turning a scorching red and swelling. It honestly hadn't hurt. It was just startling. And finally looking at just who had hit him, he was even more stunned.
"Sorera ni furenaide kudasai!"
The Princess. She was yelling at him looking absolutely furious to the point tears were brimming her eyes. She was angry and that was all he could understand because he still couldn't speak her damn language. For her to slap him though he must've been about to do something awful.
Rubbing his sore hand, he glanced back at the flower he had been about to pluck and realized he had probably greatly offended her. Shinichi had been to other kingdoms where it was forbidden to remove anything from their land- places where they worshiped the actual ground they stood on and it was a crime to simply pull a flower off its branch. Foolishly he thought he'd been alone but he should've known that in a palace, there were eyes everywhere.
When he started rubbing the red flesh attempting to sooth away the sting she gave him, that must've been when she realized what she had done. Even for her it was wildishly outlandish of her to be so forward enough to hit him.
Her violet eyes got huge and she looked almost frightened. He noticed her swallow hard as if gulping before all he could see was the crown of her head, her pretty brunette hair sliding down her shoulders to hang low.
She was bowing. And saying the same thing over and over repeatedly.
"Gomen nasai! Gomen nasai! Gomen nasai!"
She was apologizing for hitting him. He didn't need to know exactly what she was saying to get that much. But honestly, he didn't even care that she did. His first instinct had told him he was the that should kneel and grovel. He was the one that was wondering around a foreign palace as a guest and with no regard to their laws or customs. Watching her panic though, he could only freeze up. He had not been expecting her to say sorry. She wasn't stopping though and it was beginning to make him uncomfortable.
"Uh. . R-Ran-?" Shinichi asked uneasily to get her attention. He did not know anything about her kingdom or their titles but he was sure if he used his own from his home she would've been confused. But he cut himself off when he realized that calling her by her first name alone definitely would've been offensive. That and her name sounded so odd on his tongue. Even with it not being his own language, he knew he sounded every bit the foreigner when he just said her name alone. It probably sounded as awkward as it felt for him to say it.
At his nervous call though, she definitely detected her name somewhere in there because she straightened abruptly to look at him with a red face.
"Don't apologize. I'm sorry," he said belatedly forgetting that she couldn't understand a word he said. When he could practically see the question mark on her face, he looked back at the flower pointedly before pressing his palms together in front of his face as if praying. "I'm sorry." He said that three times as she had done to hopefully get the meaning across as well as he bowed his head slightly.
When he finally looked her in the eye again, she was watching him intently; curiously. She was thinking about something, probably a way to speak where he could actually get what she was saying. She looked both troubled and frustrated that she couldn't properly communicate with him. To make it easier on him, he pointed back to the flower and everything else that was within his reach.
"I won't touch anything," he said firmly as he held his hands up in a defensive gesture. He assumed that's what she had been trying to tell him. That he was not allowed to touch anything that wasn't explicitly handed to him. But when she frowned he got the feeling he was wrong that or he had completely lost her.
Softly she said something, that of course, he could not understand. Her pointing finger at the flower he had just been about to touch gave him a clue though. That as well as why she actually stopped him earlier when she was taking that same pointing finger and dragging it across her neck in a straight horizontal line.
"Shi."
The very obvious and universal symbol for dead.
His eyes widened a bit at she continued to speak. If he hadn't just had the sudden realization he almost died from touching a flower, he would've found it amusing that her tone seemed kind of slow. As if not talking as fast would still help him comprehend another language. But again, he could guess. She was probably explaining what the flower was and how it would've killed him.
It made him frown because he really was curious. He would have to ask once she learned English. That and why did they have a flower that was so deadly, practically inside their palace walls where anybody could make his mistake.
Realizing his mind had already assumed and gotten used to the idea of her leaving with him to his home made him want to slap himself. There was no confirmation yet. If anything he'd probably get the opposite. It was hard not to think that though when she was looking at him for the first time without any malice or disdain. Sure it took him almost dying to get that, but at least it meant she didn't truly hate him. If anything she looked concerned.
That was when he realized her earlier expression of what he thought had been anger hadn't been that at all. It was similar to the one she was staring at him with now. It was panic- worry. Panic that he was that dumb and worried he almost touched a deadly plant. He almost died and wondered what his face looked like as he came to that conclusion.
He really wouldn't touch anything after this.
The Princess seemed to have other ideas. Suddenly she started speaking again and pointing out the window. The blank expression he gave her hopefully showed that he didn't understand but just in case he was sure to tell her that.
Looking outside where she was pointing, he looked back at her drawing a total blank. "I don't understand," he shook his head while shrugging. Hopefully they would be able to communicate through these small gestures. She'd have no way of knowing what he really said but she'd at least be able to guess.
Ran only grinned, probably expecting that. Alarming him, with a soft hand, she gently grabbed his own. His face immediately got a small blush but as he looked at her in shock he realized it wasn't nearly as crimson as her own. By the way it kept getting darker, he knew she was aware that he was watching her intently. She wouldn't look at him though and simply pulled him forward. Her tug wasn't forceful or hard though as her significantly tinier fingers latched onto his palm.
If he had been paying attention to anything but her pretty face, he would've noticed what she was doing a lot sooner. It wasn't till his fingers were brushing against something light and smooth that he looked away.
She had placed his palm on another plant. It was attached to some vines that seemed to coil around the window. This one looked simpler and not nearly as intriguing as the deathly one he had been about to grab, but it was something new all the same and was still able to fascinate him. But when she started rubbing his hand into the petals and in doing so rubbing her hand against his- he recoiled and snapped his hand out from under hers.
Face scorching, it was his turn to swallow in nervousness as he took a small step back. Though he knew she would not understand, he couldn't help but ask, "What are you doing?" He didn't know if it was good or bad that she only stared up at him with the most innocent look. It was clear she didn't get why he pulled away. Was that normal to . . . touch people . . like that. . . ?
But then she was laughing and pressing her own palm into the leaves, rubbing her fingers delicately over the petals. When she was done, she stepped forward till she was almost chest to chest with him. Her proximity was starting to make him anxious again but she didn't seem to be as affected. Before he could attempt to move back, she was holding her hands up to him, palms facing upward.
Confused, he didn't really know what to do. Was she asking him to kiss her hand like that snob Princess Momiji? But then she was shoving her fingers forward, as if telling him to hurry up. She kept nudging her head giving him the go ahead sign but it was only when her palm was just under his nose that he understood.
Forgetting his nervousness for a moment, he leaned down slightly towards her awaiting hands. Curiously, he sniffed the tops of her fingers.
His eyes shot open.
"Vanilla?" He questioned completely surprised and also completely forgetting she probably wouldn't understand.
But surprising him, she nodded her head happily. "Banira!" She had a happy smile spread across her face.
Well at least they both understood one word.
Proving his earlier assumptions wrong though, not wasting a second she broke the flower from its tangled vine and held it out to him expectantly. Since he had been thinking it was a crime for him to take such a thing, he only stared at it suspiciously. But her hand shoving closer to him forced him to grab it.
She must've realized he wanted to take one. Twirling the flower by the stem, he looked at it before flicking his gaze back to her. "It's pretty," he complimented to the gift she gave him.
The Princess's head was tilting to the side again in her confusion. "P-pretty. . . ?" Her voice stumbled over the word uncomfortably; her accent twisting it cutely.
Shinichi nodded before nudging his head at her. "Pretty," he said addressing her like an example of the meaning before looking at the flower again. "Pretty," he repeated.
She wasn't getting it. Her brows scrunched as a small frown turned down her lips. But as far as he was concerned it wasn't important to address any of that. Especially if it would be embarrassing for him the moment she did understand. Instead he thanked her for her gift, sticking to his charades to hopefully get their meaning across.
oOo
After his brief and almost fatal exploration, she was kind and escorted him to the dining hall where they could be served breakfast. The moment he was in sight, the translator had been attached to him, almost panicking and wondering where he had been for the entire morning.
Shinichi was never one to lie. He was upfront and explained that he had walked around. Of course he left out the part where the Princess slapped him and just . . . the Princess in general. When they had started talking, he hadn't even been thinking.
It was incredibly offensive to just be walking around alone with a Princess- especially one you had proposed to. They were both unaccompanied and since he didn't know their customs very well, it would probably be best to assume that that was the same no matter what kingdom he journeyed to. As way of excuse for walking in with her, he explained that they had run into each other just outside the door. The translator didn't seem to care to question it and wanting to get further away from the topic, he asked to be shown a tour.
His escort knew a lot, Shinichi could tell. But the man mostly seemed focused on explaining their laws. Some of their customs were bizarre. They had . . female guards. It wasn't unheard of for a woman to want to become a knight in his kingdom but it seldom ever happened. They didn't grow up with the same league and in most cases, fell behind and became outclassed. Here, it seemed it may have almost been the opposite.
"The Princess took some lessons herself," the translator boasted proudly and Shinichi's brows raised further. It was odd enough for a woman to do such things but a Princess?  But now that the topic had reverted to Ran, he became curious.
"Princess Ran," he started slowly while looking at his feet as he trailed along beside his escort. "Why does she dislike me so much?" He knew it was bold of him to ask such a question so outright but he didn't know how else to get a straight answer. The Princess herself would probably tell him if she could but with their language barrier that obviously wasn't a possibility.
Like he knew it would, the subject made the translator uncomfortable. He did not want to address this topic and Shinichi was pretty sure it was because he didn't want to upset nor offend another monarch from another kingdom. The Prince didn't say anything however and simply waited for a response.
When he thought he wouldn't be getting an answer and that the translator looked like he wanted to claim he himself couldn't understand, the man sighed in defeat. "She doesn't like how . . . popular you are," his escort said a little unsurely.
Shinichi's brows raised. That had not been what he was expecting and he was honestly confused by the response. They were royalty. Weren't they all popular in their own right?
The translator winced. "That wasn't the best way to say that. You must understand your language is not my first," he apologized. "It's not you necessarily that she doesn't like. It's what your kingdom represents."
He still wasn't following. His face must've shown that because the older man looked troubled trying to think of the vocabulary to get his point across.
"Your kingdom is known far and wide, Prince. Even in our isolated state we knew of you. Her being an eligible maiden, our King was also aware you were looking for a bride."
"So she does not want to be married . . . ?" Shinichi questioned doing his best to understand.
"The Princess does not want to change," the man clarified. "She knows that if she were to marry you, she would have to leave with you; not meaning just her home. She would have to abandon her customs, her laws- her language."
Suddenly it all made sense to him. And all at once he felt like a jerk. But at the same time, he also felt like he was extremely misunderstood. He had no intention of forcing her to conform. He had no desire to change her. Yes, if they were to be wed, she'd have to learn the language of his home. But that didn't mean he wanted to completely eradicate her own. Because if they were married, it would no longer be just his home or her home. It would be their home.
Maybe his intentions hadn't been clear enough.
When he happened to find her alone again, he came at her like an explosion.
"I don't want you to change!" His voice was raised and he probably looked angry. It wasn't at all surprising that she took a step back. He was probably scaring her. But he took the same step forward and noticing she had a book in her hands, he pulled it from her without even thinking.
She gave a startled gasp but did not fight him. Again, she looked like she wanted to put some distance between them. But he wouldn't allow her to. Much like she had done to him yesterday, he snatched her hand into his own and tugged her closer.
He wasn't thinking clearly. If he had been he would’ve stopped the moment he heard her small yelp but he just wanted her to understand him. She thought wrongly of him and he wanted to correct that image of him. He wanted to change the incorrect assumptions she created about him.
Taking her palm that was latched in his own, he forced her fingers onto the page that was wide open; the page she had been reading before he rudely bombarded her. "Teach me," he said completely serious, his eyes staring into hers intently. "I want to learn."
He knew she was probably still freaked out and had no idea what he was saying. She probably thought he was losing his mind, which he very well might be. He just snatched a book she had been reading and started yelling at her in a language she could not understand.
But when she finally glanced up to meet his gaze, his breath hitched. She had been staring bizarrely at where he had forced her hand, but once she was looking at him directly, she didn't look frightened anymore. She looked incredulous and still a little unsure.
"Your language," he reiterated slowly while also pantomiming and gesturing to the writing that was very clearly in a language he could not discern- her language. Then he was pointing at his chest that was heaving from how worked up he had gotten. "I want to learn."
