If it’s done for any nervous/anxious reason Id imagine they pick up on it quickly. They speak to you with a softness and patience in their voice. Maybe they try to give you as much space as possible.

if you are getting back into selfshipping or starting to selfship, just know: it is ok to feel insecure, its ok to feel off, its ok to feel like what youre doing may be silly! but listen to what you want, listen what makes you happy and if selfshipping makes you happy, then go for it. start it again. enjoy the new things that is selfshipping if youre a newcomer.

if you had experiences that makes selfshipping difficult for you and you feel even worse, and question why you even are doing this in the first place, you are valid. its difficult to go back to something that brought so much comfort only for it to end poorly. its hard to tell yourself that doing this will make you happy, will make you feel better; its hard when perhaps selfshipping to you has bad memories but you wanna go back to it again.

selfshipping to some is a coping mechanism or perhaps it is to many, it can also just be a side hobby, it can be a fun little thing, a sweet comfort. selfshipping can be an escape to the real word and whats happening, and if it means writing the silliest goofiest things with your f/o just to make you smile, then is it really hurting anyone? no!

you have every right to enjoy something as much as everyone else. maybe some are way open about their f/os and draw, and write, and express it publicly. maybe you are different and want to express it privately, or maybe you want to try to express it more openly. whatever the case may be, this is your thing. its yours. no one will ever take it away from you.

no one will ever take something from you that makes you feel safe and comforted.

life kind of sucks right now (more like for years now) so i'll give a reminder to anyone who can relate.

your f/os will understand when you can't write or make content of them. it doesn't matter the reason, they want you to relax. take that break if you need it. they don't want you to feel like you "should" be doing things that will just drain you more. these "should" statements can zap what enjoyment you had with self shipping out of you. speaking from experience. a few days, weeks, months, years, they don't care. they'll wait for you if it means you are happier for taking a break.

daily reminder: selfshipping is for you! its definitely only ever *for* you! i completely understand feeling self conscious or weird for having a f/o, or gushing about a fictional character because we were a part of an era where it seemed odd or weird; but i assure you, its not weird! its comforting, its safe, its fun. you get to gush about your f/os or even your most favourites, the ones that have been with you FOR YEARS or recently came to you from new things you got into!!!

i know its really difficult to get your mind off that and let yourself enjoy it, its hard when you told yourself you wouldnt selfship EVER AGAIN then you came back to it because it made you happy but you are so afraid to gush openly or talk about your selfship, or talk about your f/o in fear of it being weird or odd; again, its not! its totally ok.

its a learning process, but do whatever *you* wanna do with your selfship <3 even if it may be scary or you are so incredibly self doubtful that you shouldnt do it because its silly or dumb, its not but its ok to have those thoughts! push through it, because youll find yourself falling in love again or remembering why this was so fun to you. it takes time, sure, but you will get through it. 

again, its not silly, or weird, or dumb, or odd, or even stupid to selfship. dont let others cruel words decide your life, your f/o loves you even after years of not seeing you, they love you and are so happy youre back; they missed you.

Creating self ship work is not a waste of time or talent. If it brings you joy it will never be a waste. It helps us explore our creativity and comfort us. For artists it helps expand your drawing skills. For writers it teaches you how to write for different characters. For both it teaches us how to explore different relationships and dynamics of characters we enjoy. And to those who just use self shipping for coping, you’re allowed to find comfort in something that distracts you from your everyday life. You’re allowed to do things just because you want to. And you don’t have to justify your decisions to anybody. Cultivate a life that brings you happiness. Our lives may not always turn out the way we want it to be and sometimes our creativity is our only outlet, and that’s okay, but it is still your life and you should make it as comfortable as possible for yourself.
