Just an fyi, Five Below has witchy and magical tools right now! I learned that from Reddit and it’s totally true. I ended up picking up a couple of books (not that they’re amazing and I do have real witchcraft and paganism books, but they were cute), a chakra selenite wand, a set of crystals, some candles, a pendulum, some essential oils, and a little tabletop fountain ✨

Everything You Need to Know About Crystals: Amethyst
Amethyst (“The World’s Most Popular Purple Gem”)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Color: Dark Vivid Purple to Pale Lilac
Hardness: 7
Rarity: Easy to Acquire
Type: Quartz
Chakra Association: Third Eye, Crown
Deities: Buddha, Dionysus, Diana, Artemis
Birthstone: February
Astrological Signs: Pisces, Aries and Aquarius
Element: Air
Planet: Jupiter
Origin: USA, Britain, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Russia, Sri Lanka, Uruguay, East Africa, Siberia, India
Powers: Pride, Sobriety, Peace, Spirit World, Protection, Celibacy, Luck, and Homesickness
Crystals It Works Well With: Ametrine, Citrine, and Moonstone
How It Is Created: Amethyst receives its color beginning at the crystal’s growth. At the first stage, trace amounts of iron are incorporated into the crystal as it starts to grow. After the crystallization starts, gamma rays are emitted by radioactive materials within the host rock and the irradiated iron gives the amethyst its beautiful purple color.
History: One of the earliest references to amethyst is in the Old Testament book of Exodus as it is mentioned that one of the stones in the breastplate of Aaron the High Priest was an amethyst. There is not a clear indication to where the name comes from but it is said that it is derived from the Greek word “amethyst” which means “not drunk”. Despite this, it is associated with the god, Dionysus, because the purple hue of the crystal looks like delicious grape wine. Wine goblets were carved of this stone to prevent drunkenness. There is also a Greek lore involving Dionysus with a young girl named Amethyst. The lore reads:
“Dionysus was angry one day and swore that he would exact his revenge on the next mortal that came by. He created several tigers, informed him of their mission and went his way. As it would happen, a lovely young girl named Amethyst was the next to come by, on her way to pay homage to Artemis and was attacked. Artemis quickly changed the girl into a statue of solid quartz. When Dionysus returned to see what he had wrought, he was overcome with remorse and wept tears of purple wine which flowed over the statue, staining it permanently.”
The color was also in demand throughout history since the color purple is associated with royalty and was worn by royals in Egypt and Europe. In some traditions, Catholic Bishops wear amethyst rings to symbolize their piety and celibacy, and rosaries are still fashioned with this stone.
What It Can Do:
Excellent focal point for meditation and scrying
Used to unlock mysteries and figure out spiritual matters, such as death and rebirth
Helps cleanses, purify and heal the body, spirit, and mind
Balances emotions and prevents nightmares
Useful for spells to help let go of addictions
Uses on the tip of wands for healing and can produce high spiritual energy
Brings a sense of calm and clarity
Helps with decision making
Can open your third eye and connect to the crown chakra
Protects the mind from dark magic
A gateway stone to connecting with the spirit world
Helps with transmitting energies to a specific point
How to Get the Best Out of Amethyst: Wearing it on your person with a bracelet or necklace. Putting amethyst on bare skin invites the stone to release its vibrations directly into the body, amplifying its power.
How to Cleanse and Charge Amethyst:
To cleanse: Leave your Amethyst stone placed under the light of the full Moon for a whole night, that is, about 8 hours
To charge: It can also be recharge via the moon so just leaving it in the moonlight can do double duty.
Crystal Grid:
Protection and Cleansing (Hexagram)
Amethyst
Selenite
Snow Quartz
Hold your crystals in your hands and state your intention for the grid.
Lay the first triangle, placing clearing crystals on each point.
Join up the points and spray the grid with clearing essence.
Lay the light-bringing crystals in an overlocking triangle over the top of the first. Join up the points, starting with the first crystal you laid.
Place your keystone in the center, stating your intention once more.

How to not Kill your Crystals — Crystal Safety
Tumblr media
How often have you looked up online and saw "to cleanse your crystals, use moonwater!", or "bury your crystals!"?
And how often did you hear of someone whose crystal ended up bleached, or entirely dissolved? (I'm looking at you, selenite)
Long post ahead but it's worth it, I promise
_________________♡♤◇♧_________________
Introduction
There are many methods of cleansing and charging crystals, but what beginner witches and pagans may not realize is that not every method is appropriate for every crystal.
While some methods are generally more harmless than others, if you don't know some of your crystal's basic properties, you might end up damaging them or even yourself!
So in this post I'll go through some general considerations and then list some cleansing & charging methods: the failproof, the ones you have to consider crystal safety, and the possibly harmful ones. Lastly, I'll list what you should NEVER do with your crystals.
_________________♡♤◇♧_________________
So what's wrong with Moonwater?
There is nothing wrong with moon or sun energy itself. What can be dangerous is Water and Sunlight. It's all about physics and chemistry.
Tumblr media
Water
Some crystals dissolve or release toxic chemicals in water. Some examples are Selenite & and Desert Rose (which is a type of Selenite), and Hematite. That means you should never leave them near water, humidity, wash them, or put them inside any elixirs.
Sidenote on elixirs: if you are going to ingest any type of water that has been in contact with crystals, you MUST do a through research to make sure they don't release ANY chemicals in the water.
Plus you can infuse water with crystal energy without them touching the water.

The Sun
As for Sunlight, it can bleach your crystals and alter the coloration over time. The heat can also greatly damage them! An example of crystals that shouldn't be exposed to the sun is quartz. Pretty much all kinds, including amethyst and citrine.
Fun fact: burned amethyst clusters are very often sold as citrine. They have a burned yellow/brown/orange aspect to them, like in this image.
Real citrine has lighter yellow and orange tones.

Fail proof Cleansing & Charging
Nothing can go wrong with them when it comes to crystal safety. The worst that can happen is performing them poorly, which could affect cleansing and charging effectiveness.
Smoke
There's no way to go wrong here. You can light an incense or burn herbs of your choosing, pick up a crystal, and cleanse them with the smoke. You can use energetic herbs such as rosemary to charge them.
Tip: You can choose the herbs and incense based on your stones properties! (For example, use a fiery herb to charge a fiery crystal)
Sound
There are many ways to go about this. Singing bowls, affirmations, vocal singing, bells, prayer, chanting, galdr (rune chanting), calming and uplifting music...
Choose your sound, cleanse your space, set your intention, and let Sound do its job. If you are going to charge the crystals yourself using a method such as chanting to your stones, cleansing yourself first and having a ritualistic setup would be nice. It can help you focus and make sure you will only send positive energies to your crystals.
Tumblr media
Reiki and Energy work
Absolutely no way to go wrong. Reiki is a wonderful cleasing/charging method.
You would have to be initiated in order to do Reiki, but if you can't afford that, any kind of energy work and energy manipulation will do. Just make sure to prepare yourself beforehand and focus on what you are doing.
You can use tools to help in energy manipulation, such as an athame or wand.
Water Glass Cleansing
You are NOT going to put your crystals INSIDE the water glass. That's why this is a safe cleansing method.
Fill a glass of water and set your intentions for the water to absorb all negativity from your crystals, then leave your stones & crystals near your glass of water for a few hours.
It is preferable to use a transparent glass. It doesn't have to be, but it is better. I also wouldn't recommend plastic of any kind.
Once you are done, dispose of the water, thanking it for its help, and wash the glass before using it again.
Tumblr media
_________________♡♤◇♧_________________
Consider Crystal Safety with These
They are commonly believed to be harmless (and that's mostly true), but give them some thought anyway. I will explain why.
Immersing in Salt
Salt has strong cleansing properties. You can fill a small bowl with enough salt to bury your crystals and leave them there for a few hours to a day. You could also use salt water the same way.
Why be careful?
Salt can trigger chemical reactions in some crystals. I'm mainly talking about salt water, but just to be safe, it might be best to have caution with solid salt as well.
Tumblr media
Burying in Earth
Burying crystals (especially if close to a plant or tree) is a popular cleansing/charging method. After all, they came from the earth! Who else could take better care of them?
You can leave your crystals buried outside for a few hours to a day and let the planet do its job.
Why be careful?
If you are going to leave crystals outside beneath the earth, you shouldn't have to worry about the Sun. It is WATER that you should worry about.
If it rains, the water will reach your crystals. If want to bury non water-safe crystals, make sure rain won't get to them.
Tip #1: Don't forget where you buried them
Tip #2: An alternative to burying outside is to bury crystals on your household plant's pot. You can even match the plant's own properties to the energy you want to work on your crystal.
Tumblr media
Moonlight Bath
Not moon water, just moonlight. Just let your crystals bask in moonlight... It is almost failproof.
Why be careful?
I say it's almost failproof because it can only fail if you forget your crystals outside until the sun is out, or until it rains.
If you think you are prone to forgetting to collect your crystals before the sun shines, do this early in the night and set an alarm to collect your crystals in a few hours.
Tip: you can still cleanse and charge with Moon energy even if the weather is not favorable. Just be careful with rain.
_________________♡♤◇♧_________________
Possibly Harmful Methods
For these, you NEED to know your crystals before you do them. Especially the ones involving water and heat, you should take into consideration your own health due to possible chemical releases!
Sun charging
While it can be great to have sun energy on some of your crystals, this is one of the unsafest methods for the crystals. A lot of them will bleach, change color and even crack after prolonged sunlight exposure. If you're leaving crystals in the Sun, I suggest you leave them out for no more than an hour.
Also, watch out for weather changes if you have a crystal that is not waterproof.
Sidenote: if you have crystal necklaces, remember you might also accidentally expose them to sunlight and rain when you wear them outdoors.
Tumblr media
Sun water
Can't have your crystals in the Sun, but it's a fire crystal so you would like it to be charged with sun energy?
If they are water safe, make some sun water, fill a bowl with it, and let your crystals sit in it for a few hours.
Moon water
As long as your crystal is waterproof, it should be fine. Just fill a bowl with moon water and let your crystals be for a few hours.
If you don't know if your crystals are water safe, it's best not to risk it.
_________________♡♤◇♧_________________
Never Ever...
... Expose your crystals to intense heat
No candles, no hot water, no intense sunlight. Not only you will very likely damage your crystal, intense heat and burning of crystals can release toxic fumes.
... Use chemicals to clean crystals
No soaps, alcohol, detergents, salts, etc. They might trigger chemical reactions when in contact with some crystals. So unless you know exactly what you're doing, keep these away from them.
... Touch dissolved crystal water
If you put your crystal in water and a chemical reaction happened, it's best to not touch the water. It could cause skin irritation and intoxication.
Tumblr media

Conclusion
Sometimes we leave crystals outside so that they can be bestowed Nature's blessings, and we forget about them. It happens, as do all accidents.
But you can avoid a lot of damage (yours and theirs) by simply studying about them before submitting them to anything that could be potentially harmful.
Remember your crystals need a lot of love and care, and that goes for their physical care, too. They are unique because of their physical and chemical properties as well, not just spiritual ones.
Thank you for reading and love your crystals!

Witch!Reader x Bat/Vampire!Eddie Munson Series Masterlist The Grimoire The Timeline
Warnings: canon typical violence, horror genre typical violence, swearing, animal death, no beta, warnings updated each chapter.
Synopsis: No witch has stepped foot in Hawkins since 1845, but when Vecna opens the ground and poisons the town, a voice begins to call to you. Have you been brought back to this cursed place to heal the townspeople’s wounds, to save a hexed bat that always finds its way to you, or to redefine your history with a reunion 150 years in the making?
Chapter Summary: Death and transformation, or: how to unhex. 2714 words.
Tumblr media
1843
The pit was four graves wide and had been dug as deep as the earth allowed. The bodies were rolled in unceremoniously and without care.
“We should take their teeth,” someone in the coven suggested; witches giggled.
“Hush!” your aunt yelled. “We do not revel in death. Nor do we trade in keepsakes of evil.”
The vampires would take days to burn and you wondered if their colony would be warned off by the smell. Would they see the dark plumes and know that witches had discovered a means to their end? Would everything change now the invulnerable were killable?
“Amabel, take Hannah and Fern, go to the village and treat the wounded. The rest of you… We have work to do.”
1986
The question burned on your tongue. An acidic bubbling. In the same way you knew he’d been strengthened enough by the dog to find more food, he knew you wanted to know what that food was.
“No humans,” the vampire told you. “This… this hurts you still.”
You nodded. “It does,” you agreed. “Why aren’t you…” Was there a diplomatic way of asking a monster why they weren’t acting monstrously?
“I can control it,”
“But animal blood isn’t enough,” you stated.
“No. It isn’t.”
There was more wrong with, well… all of it, than there was right. Yet, you persisted. You blinked yourself out of his gaze and turned to the kitchen. As you began to collect what you’d need to try to uncurse him, you spoke.
“There is a hierarchy in the coven. And, while it’s true that the higher up they are, the stronger their magic is, there is still not a huge difference between each of us. If we want our magic to be more powerful, then we cast together.”
The vampire had moved to sit on the couch. He looked unnatural there, but he was trying to put you at ease. At the very least, he was listening intently.
“So, that’s good and bad for us now. Bad because I can’t be any stronger than I am. Good because my magic is comparable to that of the witch that cursed you.” You turned to him suddenly. “Do you know who cursed you? Or why?”
“No. I have only ever been cursed,”
“Oh… And, ah, when do you normally, you know, turn back?”
A small smile played on the vampire’s lips. “By the sunrise of the next day,”
“Okay. Well, that’s only a couple hours away, so we better get to work. And we still need to give you a name if we can’t find yours. I had an idea for that actually.”
You couldn’t say if he had moved at vampire speed or if you’d just been preoccupied with digging through your crystals to find a selenite wand, but he was at your side.
“You must sleep,”
“I can sleep when we’re done,” you answered, not looking at him.
“It does not hurt to be the creature,” he lied. It didn’t physically hurt, not since you had healed Vecna’s curse. It hurt to have all that awareness though. Like he was locked in a cage too small for his body.
“You don’t trust me? Trying to postpone this in case I accidentally blow you up?”
The vampire took hold of both your hands, the selenite falling to the floor. He saw the fear flash across your face but it didn’t loosen the grip he had.
“I trust in your magic. In you…”
“You’re not meant to. We’re not meant to… work together,”
“I know.” He let you go and took a step back.
Each of his movements that you could track, you knew were deliberate… permissive.
“You remember?” you asked.
“No. I… feel it.”
A vampire’s hatred for a witch ran that deep then. Born immortal enemies.
“Maybe you’re right. I do need sleep. I feel bad just leaving you to turn though.”
He looked one part sceptical one part emotionally devasted. It was a strange expression. “I will stay. When I am like that, I can sleep too,”
“Yeah… Okay… The idea I had, about your name, was another spell. I don’t know if it will work, because of the whole… being cursed… but it’s worth a try. Now. Quickly. Then I’ll sleep.” You weren’t sure why you were pitching it like a kid asking for their bedtime to be pushed back.
“Quickly,” he repeated, the word sharp in his mouth.
“Yeah. It’s, ah… Come here.”
He followed you around the kitchen counter and to the coffee table that had become your makeshift altar. When you motioned for him to sit opposite you, he did. Reaching out for your bag on the couch, you dragged it to you and retrieved your little notebook. With a piece of torn paper in one hand, you lit a candle with the other.
“Guiding spirits, lend charity,
Lend not misgivings, lend clarity.
What is in a name, a truth be told,
What he answers to, let unfold.”
The paper burned over the flame while you cast. You held it out to the vampire, and he let you drop it into his open palm. The fire did not burn him.
“Close your hand,” you told him.
His eyes flicked up to yours briefly before back down to where his fingers curled around the disintegrating paper. His head cocked to the side and you smiled. You could tell he was surprised at the feeling.
“Open.”
When his fist unclenched, a piece of paper laid on his palm, unburnt and smooth. You could see it was no longer blank either.
“What does it say?”
The vampire looked at the letters and tried to remember if they had once meant something to him. Nothing came to mind. He read emotionless, “Edward.”
Dawn broke and you’d not tumbled from your dreams.
He had returned to his bat state at first light, flown silently into the bedroom, and watched you sleep. By mid-morning, he scurried under the bed, nestling into the nest you’d created him on that first day.
The phone rang just before midday, slamming you into consciousness.
“Hello,” you croaked, feeling as seedy as if you’d been on a bender.
Something had happened in Hawkins. Something inexplicable, said the person on the phone. There were injured, a couple of dozen including kids. “Could you come? You’re on the list from the high school aid centre. We could use all the help we could get.”
Two paracetamol tablets and a glass of water later, you were out the door.
Vampires, when killing unchecked, ripped throats clean out. Blood would drench the body and the ground beneath it. You would know that it wasn’t just about hunger. It was about sending a message. Vecna was sending a message too.
Arms were snapped at unnatural angles. Eye sockets bled. Bones sat jagged, sticking out from fleshy wounds. It was not just a massacre. It was a show of force.
You worked as fast as you could, focussing on those that would need your magic to survive their injuries. Nobody could understand what had happened to the dozens of people, so it was fine that nobody would understand the healing either.
While you listened to the screaming and chaos, you watched out for the child soldier teens. None of them appeared, something you didn’t know how to feel about. Hawkins’ mayor, however, did show. He stood uselessly, the horror before him beyond comprehension. It took him too long to focus his attention, demanding a phone of the people around him, then yelling down the line for more resources, the national guard, and a county-wide evacuation.
It was well into the night before you paused to take a breath. The woman working beside you handed you a bottle of water and a sympathetic smile. “You should take a second,”
“Yeah,” you replied, running your hands through your hair. “I’ll just be outside if you need me.”
The night was cold. You found a bench seat to rest on. Before you could shake thoughts out of your head though, the flutter of wings drew your attention up. The bat landed next to you.
“Hey,” you greeted.
It didn’t make sense, the way you felt about the bat. You scooped him up and hugged him to your body like he wasn’t a vampire. He did his part too; fluffing his body and chittering at you. It was him. But it also wasn’t.
You pictured a Venn diagram with ‘the bat’s personality’ as the lefthand circle and ‘the vampire’s personality’ as the righthand one. The crossover in the middle, maybe that was who he was before he was cursed.
“I haven’t asked you about any of this. Did you see it? When he first came? Remind me to ask you when, you know, you can talk again.”
The list started to write itself in your head.
“There’s probably a lot of things we should talk about… I don’t know… I don’t know how we’ve not talked about some it.”
Specifically, you were thinking about the eradication of his kind. Did he know that he was the last of his species? Did he know the hunters were witches? Did he want to know how many you’d personally killed? If he asked, you wouldn’t have been able to answer. You hadn’t kept count.
“You should go. I’m going to be here for a while more. I’ll come home as soon as I can. Stay close, though. It’s dangerous out there.”
The bat silently hopped out of your clutches and onto the seat before flying up and out into the darkness, with the word home playing on repeat in his mind.
...
The exhaustion was more profound than just bone deep. It was in the marrow. In the cells and the atoms of your very being. It took all the willpower you had to drag your feet up the stairs of the trailer and collapse on the couch.
You had been helping and healing for two days straight, not stopping to observe a good night’s sleep. It was close to midnight the day after you’d got the call when you returned home. Hours and hours of misery and pain.
The bat had already snuck his way into the trailer. He chittered at your return, only to quickly quieten down when he saw that state you were in. Too tired to offer a greeting, you were passed out before he’d made it over to you.
It took some work, but the bat managed to clutch the throw blanket he’d once used to hide his naked vampire form and drag it over your body. He hoped it would provide some warmth, and maybe even comfort.
He ate fruit throughout the night, ducking out of the trailer once to assess the state of Hawkins, then returned for sunrise. The bat got into his under-the-bed hideout and fell asleep.
Like you were taking turns to guard each other, you woke up just after he went to bed. You checked on him in his nest then left the bedroom.
Although you had not really had enough rest and your mind was still a little fractured, not able to unwind from the sight of Vecna’s victims, you started to prepare for the spell to undo a hex.
On the fourth day in Hawkins, you had spent the day on the road looking for Hawthorn. You had been smart, utilising your time well. It was that day you stocked up on a lot of mystic ingredients, trinkets, and inventory. Now, almost a week later, you were grateful for it all.
In a large bowl, you prepared a potion that would be poured into a salt bath. First, a blend of dried petals. From a daffodil, a measure of forgiveness. The white star of the Ornithogalum, to symbolise atonement and reconciliation. More yellow from a black-eyed Susan, an offering of endurance and survival. And finally, the acanthus, for enduring life.
Next you collected a white candle, the selenite wand you’d already fished out, and one large king protea flower, standing proud on its everlasting stem.
The last thing to do was to write the spell.
The bat had eaten all your fruit. He ate a lot for such a little guy. As you stood in the kitchen deciding on what you would have for lunch, you thought about how, in your mind he was still ‘the bat.’ Technically he was Edward. That didn’t seem right. It didn’t even really fit the vampire.
The milk was expired and you were out of mac and cheese. Using the last dregs of the orange juice, you had a bowl of cereal while sitting on the couch and staring at the spot where a television should go.
“I need to go shopping,” you said to yourself. Yeah, you had all the witchy supplies you needed. As for literally everything else, you were running on empty.
By mid-afternoon you had burnt through two teapots of rooibos. Thankfully it was a caffeine-free tea, otherwise you’d have been bouncing off the walls. The sugar you’d heaped into each cup was doing a good job of providing energy enough.
The spell was ready by early evening, just in time for the bat to emerge from the bedroom.
“How did you sleep?” you asked him. It made you laugh when he chittered a response. You’d miss that sound when he was free of his animal cage.
You showed him what you had achieved during the day, then collected everything and headed to the bathroom. “I don’t know how common it is for trailers like this to have baths, but I’m taking it as a good omen,” you laughed.
As you filled the bath with warm water, you stirred in pink salt. You glanced over at the bat. “Are you nervous?” you asked. He shuffled on the spot a little. “It’s okay if you are… Can I tell you something though? I’m going to miss you like this. Maybe I’ll need to get myself a familiar after all, huh?”
When the bath was full, you poured your petal blend in, then sat the selenite and protea on the side of the tub. You knelt on the floor, knees digging into the cheap tiles.
“You’ll need to be in the water, then I’ll light this candle and start the spell,” you explained to the bat. “If you turn back into your… other form before I finish, you need to stay calm and stay in the water. If you remember to, holding the selenite and protea will help, but it’s okay if you don’t.”
The selenite focused energy and brought clarity to the spell. The protea flower symbolised transformation.
The bat flittered on the water's surface, searching for a way to remain in the bath. It took him a few seconds to find a position that worked; he floated on his back with his wings spread. You smiled at him, holding in a giggle.
“Here we go,” you told him, to which he offered a single small squeak.
With a match, you lit the candle and placed it by the protea.
“From Ancient times this power came,
For witch to have but none to reign.
Troubled blood fixed in a curse,
We seek to change, to heal, to reverse.”
The bat was suddenly pulled beneath the surface of the water. You yelped and started to move but quickly stopped. Breathe, you said to yourself. Between the water’s movement and all the dried petals, you couldn’t make out what was happening in the bath. Then, just as quickly as the disappearance, an entire body shot out from the water, hands grasping at the side of the tub, clawed fingers digging in.
Edward’s mouth sat agape for a moment before his eyes darted to you. You held his stare and hoped he found solace in your face.
It took him only seconds to compose himself. With tentative hands, Edward reached out and took hold of the selenite wand and protea. He looked at you, the candle’s flame reflected in his eyes. You nodded once, then continued.
“Of earth, of water, and of fire,
This curse or hex we retire.
From Ancient times this power came,
I use it now for this soul’s reclaim.”
End Note: The Grimoire and timeline have been updated (links above). There is also a very special post dedicated to the unhexing spell; click here and show it some love.

Spirit-
Because spirit is not tangible, its correspondences differ from those of the physical components. Planets, tools, and other objects may be associated with it by various systems, although these associations are significantly less standardised than those of the other four elements. The element of spirit has various names. The most popular are spirit, ether or aether, and quintessence, which is Latin for "fifth element."
There is no universal symbol for spirit, however circles are prevalent. Eight-spoked wheels and spirals are also used to symbolise spirit. Spirit connects the physical and spiritual realms. In cosmological conceptions, the spirit is the intermediary substance between the physical and heavenly realms. Within the microcosm, the spirit serves as the link between the body and the soul.
Invoke your god or goddess. This can be accomplished by looking into their correspondences and making sacrifices or burning suitable incense, for example. If you discover a chant you enjoy, you may utilise it as well, or focus on this god, welcoming the message they wish to convey to you.
Practice divination! This is one of the most effective techniques to connect with the spiritual dimension. It allows you to bypass your conscious mind, which sometimes prevents us from receiving subconscious instructions. Whether you use tarot, a pendulum, or runes, calling on spirit or a specific god can help you connect with this element while performing divination.
Keep a dream notebook. We frequently receive messages in our sleep that we quickly forget unless we write them down. When we sleep, our conscious mind is not functioning, leaving us more receptive to receiving messages from Spirit. To interpret the dreams, become familiar with common symbolism and interpret them instinctively.
Draw, paint, or colour a mandala. This is a style of meditation derived from the Buddhist and Hindu practices of Tantra. Mandalas became popular in the New Age movement after Carl Jung presented them as a tool to examine the subconscious, and they can now be found almost anywhere, including adult colouring books.

Spells for a More Prosperous 2023
Imbue your 2023 new years resolutions with a little magic.
Samhain, at the end of October, is considered the start of the new year among most Pagan and Wiccan groups. And the Winter Solstice and Yule on the 21st of June is also an important gateway in the wheel of the year as this is the moment when the sun starts to increase in force again (in the northern hemisphere).
Read our guide to Samhain here.
New Year, on the first of January, became the start of the New Year among the Romans in 45 BCE when Julius Caesar decided that the calendar needed reforming. He chose January because it is the month of Janus, as the god represents beginnings and transitions, and he has two faces so he can look both backward and forward.
Despite not being one of the major Wiccan holidays, New Year is still an excellent time to cast spells to set your intentions and manifest prosperity for the coming year. The positive energy created by so many people celebrating and sending out energy wishing for luck and transformation creates a shared energetic force that we can tap into to give extra power to our spells and rituals.
We have three favorite types of rituals that we like to conduct at the new year. Cleansing rituals to expel negative energy and prepare ourselves to take on the new year with fresh energy. Intentions rituals that help firmly set our intentions and draw power for their manifestations. And good luck rituals to attract a bit of fortune for the new year.
Cleansing Rituals
It is great to start the new year by cleansing yourself of any negative or unwanted energy from the previous year. New Year’s Eve can be a great time to conduct any of your favorite cleansing rituals. Use incense to clear energy out of your space, or use a Selenite, Amethyst, or Tourmaline wand to expel negative energy.
But, at New Year, you might be more focused on cleansing your own physical energy. This can be done by bathing in nature, in the Ocean, or in a clean natural lake. If you prefer to do your cleansing at home, run yourself an Epsom Salt bath.
To conduct a ritual cleansing, make sure you have a shower before you enter your bath, as you want to feel clean during your soak. Add a few drops of sage and frankincense essential oils to your bath water for more potent cleansing.
Burn a cleansing white candle while you bathe and focus your mind on the flame. Send negative thoughts and the sources of your negative energy to the flame and imagine them burning up and floating away in the smoke as you bathe.
In the hours following your bath, try only to do things that nourish your body. Moisturize your skin and eat foods and drinks that nourish and invigorate your system.
Intension Rituals
New Year is a time when many people like to set intentions and resolutions for the new year. You can conduct rituals that give your intentions more force and give you and the universe enhanced energy to make them manifest in the coming year.
Start your ritual at first light on December 31st. Take a small piece of green or brown cloth and place it on the earth. Pour a small mound of ground cinnamon onto the cloth and visualize the cloth as a fertile foundation and the cinnamon as nourishing earth.
Next, take some seeds in your hand, one to represent each of your main intentions for the coming year. Hold each seed in your hand and focus on your intention. When it is clearly visible in your mind, plant the seed in your cinnamon. Once you planted all your seeds, leave them in the sun until sunset. As the sun sets, gather the cloth and seal it around the cinnamon and seal it with a gold ribbon.
Take the bundle with you as go about your business. When you and all the people around you are sending out positive energy at midnight, take out your bundle and focus again on your intentions, channeling the positive energy that you need around you into your bundle.
After the ritual is done, place the bundle in your sacred space. You can hold it in your hands and focus on your intentions whenever you need energy, focus, or guidance in the coming year. When you no longer need the bundle, you should bury it in the earth.
Good Luck Rituals
You can also set yourself up for the best possible new year by attracting some good luck. One of the best spells for good fortune is a luck jar.
Get yourself a clean glass jar. Cleanse it thoroughly with soap and water, and then incense. Gather crystals and herbs with lucky energy, such as quartz, peridot, and tiger’s eye for crystals and orange tea, bay leaves, lemongrass, and peppermint for herbs. Also, gather other things that may represent good luck to you, such as something made of gold or small objects linked with previous luck or success.
Take these objects into your magic circle and sit before a burning candle. Slowly and with the intention of both giving and receiving positive energy in the coming year, place these items inside your jar in layers. Once it is full, you can seal the jar using the wax from your candle.
Keep your spell jar on your altar, beside your bed, or where you work if you are looking for fortune in your professional pursuits.
