I don't think you talk about newest content so it's fine to ignore this if you want but, yesterday I saw a theory that said something about the counting for chapters was changed on JP? And it's proof that 7 ended two updates ago, and now the game is going back to 1? Something about Ace's title? eopfkefkefj yeah this is vague I don't really get it but just if you've heard anything.

This blog typically pretends that main story content not released on EN does not exist because spoilers are the worst :<

I will do my very best to be vague but just to be safe, minor spoilers (vaguely plot related) under the cut!

I have also come across theories that maybe the story is going backwards now!

I think that is where "Book 7 ended two chapters ago" comes from: two chapters ago on JP the content of the Main Story changed from Diasomnia characters to Ignihyde characters!

While technically we are still in Book 7 of the main story, the content seems to be going in reverse order (further proven by the announcement of Rook's new card 👀), and the theory goes that now that we have "finished" with Book 7 (Diasomnia) and will be going to Book 6, Book 5, etc.!

The "counting for chapters was changed" part is maybe about what happened on JP back when Book 7 began:

Originally the different books were not separated into "chapters" on JP!

They were separated into beginnings, middles and ends, which worked okay when books were shorter.

But then in Book 5 and Book 6 we started getting sections called "Middle Part 1," "Ending Part 1," etc., which was confusing, but it meant that we could still more or less tell how far along we were in the story and when we could expect it to end.

With Book 7, everything changed!

Suddenly we no longer have a "beginning," "middle" and "end"--we have are numbered chapters. The game has broken from its own, linear, "Book 6 -> Book 7 -> Book 8" timeline, and now anything is possible!

And that is not all! We also ran out of dorm uniform cards. Dorm cards were not released until we reached the Book about the dorm in question, and then right after Diasomnia received their dorm cards, they also received Book 7-exclusive cards that seem to be related to the new titles released on both EN and JP:

Ortho's new title for Book 7 and his Cereberus Gear is, for example, Guardian of the Underworld.

The theory says new cards do not have personal stories behind them because the information that would normally be included in these cards has been woven into the main story (which has also been proven true of both Lilia and Sebek). Another part of the game that Book 7 has changed!

It seems that the new titles will each be associated with their own cards, picked up in backwards-order just like the dorm uniform cards were picked up in forwards-order.

And that brings us to Ace's title:

If this theory is true, Heartslabyul is going to be one of the last, if not the very last dorm that we visit. And Ace's new title has been taken directly from the summon line of his dorm uniform: Trump Card of Hearts 👀

But, like most theories, this one is not air-tight!

If we are truly going backwards to pick up all the new cards, then where are Malleus' "Ruler of the Abyss" and Silver's "Knight of Dreams" cards? Aren't we already in Book 6? And if we're already going into Book 5 with Rook, have we already skipped Idia's card for "King of the Underworld"? Are they skipping overblotters for some reason and saving them for later? (Silver's missing card has an entirely separate theory of its own.)

I do not know! :> But I do very much like the theory that we have technically already completed Book 7 (Book 7) content, maybe even Book 7 (Book 6) content, next will be Book 7 (Book 5) content, etc., as the game progresses! ^^ Exciting!

Imagine

Sebek was diligently cleaning the stables after the club practice when, unexpectedly, a storm broke out. So he just had to wait inside. It was getting really cold and he eventually found himself shivering. Then suddenly Chenya appeared (he was looking for Riddle) and stumbled upon poor crocodile. So he wrapped his fluffy tail around his neck.....And they fell asleep like that :3 (it was a long storm) Riddle and Silver found them in the morning, curled up on a pile of hay :3 mm but considering this post, they may not have just slept together >:)

But mostly Chenya just messes with Sebek yes haha

Started absolutely love this ship after the 2nd Sam's New Year Sale event and Sebek's New Year card!

But I wouldn't say that Sebek harshly judges others' appearances in general? I think it's rooted in his dedication to maintain a perfect image in Waka-sama's presence (if you're around Waka-sama or even mention his name 🙃 you must look impeccable)

The way Sebek styles his hair is likely heavily influenced by Baul, who shares a similar hairstyle? And he definitely played a huge role in instilling in Sebek the belief that this particular hairstyle is a reflection of how a Royal Guard must present themselves (certainly not Lilia lol)

As for clothes, Sebek himself says that he doesn't care much about such things, and he simply wears what is necessary. (one of his Dorm Uniform Card lines, translation by @mysteryshoptls)

And even if he takes time to decorate his clothes, he does it only to pay tribute to Waka-sama, his homeland, and other significant aspects of his life (e.g. his Outdoor wear's and Union Jacket's patches). (Union Birthday voice line, from @mysteryshoptls 's translation here)

I absolutely love to imagine a certain dialog between them when they were working at Sam's New Year Sale together. Imagine they're on a break and doing some hair adjustments in front of the mirror.

"Sebek, I admit I am quite surprised - we've been working quite hastily, and you've been running back and forth since early morning, and yet your hair looks perfect and still...to think about it, it always looks like this, even in Flying class. You must use a really nice fixative spray" Vil said curiously.

"HMPH! OF COURSE I DO, HUMAN" Sebek huffed.

"As a retainer of LORD MALLEUS I make sure I don't bring shame upon his name!"

"Ah yes...Malleus, right..." Vil sighed, knowing where this goes.

"I make sure I look ABSOLUTELY PERFECT" Sebek continued, ignoring Vil's now less interested expression.

"So, in order to ensure NOT A SINGLE HAIR is out of order, it isn't just fixative spray, but THE STRONGEST hair gel I was able to acquire!" he proudly puffed his chest and pulled out a small acid green bottle with a lightning bolt on it.

And at that very moment, the world might have lost one of the most beautiful models and actors because Vil nearly had a heart attack.

"ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND??????!!!!" He grabbed the bottle out of Sebek's hand and squeezed his shoulder, eyes burning with rage and despair.

"Listen to me closely, cucumber. If you don't want to lose all your hair and become bald by the age of 30, NEVER ever use this thing again, do you understand me?" he was speaking slowly, making sure each word would reach Sebek's consciousness.

The green-haired man was taken aback for a few seconds but then regained his composure and shook off senior's hand.

"Vil-senpai, what are you talking about?! I must maintain the perfect image of Waka-sama's guard so I-"

Vil puts his hand over Sebek's mouth, silencing him, and leans closer, looking right into his eyes.

"I will hear no objections. This thing goes into the rubbish bin, now. You're a good-looking man, Sebek, and I cannot allow you to abuse your natural looks. If you truly want to look perfect for your King, I will teach you then..."

So Vil started teaching Sebek about all these things, what is harmful, what is useless etc. :)

Hey there! I don't know who to ask about this, but may i know if the card stories include any interaction between the player and the character? I'm fairly new to twisted wonderland and the card stories I've read so far only have interactions between different characters. Sorry to bother with this T^T

Hi!! It’s no bother at all ^^ Most card stories/vignettes will focus on the character they’re about, or their interactions with others. This means that sometimes, the mc will appear, where either you’ll be briefly mentioned or you have the option of contributing a few lines of dialogue/get a short interaction (for example, ruggie mentions mc once in his dorm uniform ssr, and I think it’s sebek’s ceremony robes sr where you get to do a task with him). I don’t know if there’s a card focused exclusively on the mc and one of the characters, though. If the mc appears, you’re never given more weight than any other character would.

One immediate exception that comes to mind is the birthday cards, but that’s only because they’re in a interview-style format where you ask the characters questions about themselves. Not that you get to choose the questions, I think. It’s all predetermined.

Hello! It's me again. Thank you for answering my last ask.

I went and found some more voice lines. Sadly, I cannot screenshot the audio, but here's the English translations of the lines from Jack's dorm uniform, Rook's Halloween costume, Malleus' GloMas outfit, Kalim's New Year getup, Silver's Halloween costume, and Silver's Birthday Boy clothes. It's worth noting that Deuce calls Kalim "Asim-senpai" in the New Year's duo.

Hope this helps! (I only have the Jack, Malleus, and Rook shown here, the rest I got via the helper cards in Crafter's Gauntlet battles. lol.)

Hello hello, thank you so much!! I checked the audio on all of the above cards and with the exception of the usual removal of honorifics, the official translations on EN are all perfect! :>

Have put together an original dialogue/literal translation comparison just for fun, but they're all great as they are!

Jack's phrasing here is probably meant to be a wolf-based pun, as the word he is using (かます) both means to defeat a person/win a challenge in one go, and is also pronounced the same as the word 嚙ます, for "to bite."

So technically he is saying both "let's bite them" and "let's finish them off" simultaneously, which isn't really something that can be portrayed in English.

Ruggie's response of "熱くなっちゃって" is kind of Ruggie saying, "You always get so heated!" or "passionate" or "worked up."

The word "hade" (派手) comes up a lot with Kalim, but can be so difficult to express in English. It can be said as "flashy," "gaudy," etc. Basically, to go very big!

Deuce's response is the same on EN and is a word of encouragement (it is actually かます again, from Jack's Duo, as Deuce is encouraging Kalim to take out their opponent), but Deuce is also saying "please."

And then there is Deuce's use of last-name-senpai being changed to a first name without an honorific which, as you say, is worthy of note!

Deuce's way of expressing himself connects directly to his past violence and his present-day efforts to reform himself; an important part of the character that might just be impossible to translate into english. (More here!)

Malleus and Sebek's lines are both perfectly accurate on EN, although "-sama" has been removed from Sebek's dialogue.

The game has an interesting relationship with the "-sama" honorific. Sebek's "Malleus-sama" gets rewritten into "Housewarden Malleus" or dropped, while it is localized as "Mr.," "Master," "O Great," "O mighty" or "Count" with other characters.

Rook's Halloween Duo dialogue is perfectly accurate! Interestingly, while Trey and Riddle both have "roses" in their nicknames, Riddle's is pronounced as the English/French word "rose," while Trey's is pronounced as the Japanese word "bara" (薔薇).

Silver's Halloween Duo is also perfectly accurate, with just the loss of "-senpai" from Silver.

Leona's line is a great example of how flexible the Japanese language is, depending so heavily on context as it does: technically all Leona is saying is the word "show," in a command form. He isn't specifying what it is that he wants Silver to show to him, so while we can infer that this would probably be "show me what you've got" or "show me how it's done," etc, in English, he could technically also be saying "show me what's in your hands" or "show me what you're hiding," etc.

(If you've ever wondered how some translations can vary so wildly between sources, this is part of why!)

Silver's Birthday Duo is also perfectly accurate, missing only the "-kun" from Ruggie.

Unlike Cater, who also uses honorifics in 100% of his dialogue (except with Trey in important situations), when Leona overblots Ruggie doesn't shift to calling him by name: he calls him a casual form of "you," which is equally fascinating. (More here)

ive mostly just been seeing how other people do it and referencing it (cause there's specific names for things. like the navigation box for events having its own thing and a specific name for its 'type')

You know that one post I made sharing Azul's birthday bloom lines because it wasn't on the wiki? I ADDED THOSE

not the recordings tho because i dont know how to do it and i dont think recent-ish cards have those audio files (you basically add stuff from a sort of 'storage'. Like. you put in the name and it just. appears. like, for card type or something like that you put in the card name, like, say, 'Birthday Bloom', and that card appears there. its cool.)

I did it for tsumsitter kalim too

and then because i am insane i did his vignette too (MY HANDS HATE ME). im so bad at describing how the tsum moves around. it was repetitive with 'hops'

because i am undescriptive (also the tsumsitter doesn't have a icon as far as i can tell. so most of the parts with tsumsitter kalim i just switched to his dorm uniform one. but for that one bit where he picks up the tsum i set it to tsumsitter. so its just. red. ALSO i KNOW its tsumsitter because i went to riddle's and checked what outfit name they used for him and its Tsumsitter.)

i got lazy and stopped describing when it left. so if anyone wants to go do that be my guest.

anyway i dont know if there's some special thing for when a time skip happens. like when there's a black swipe to signify talking/time skip so. fshuif

and because. for some odd reason i like doing this. i added chapter 5-1, 5-2, and 7-1 of Sam's New Year Sale 2024 (That's Pomefiore's bit, and then Diasomnia's visit. contemplating adding Diasomnia's leave too but my hands hurt). because those are pretty short and dont make me die inside (everything else is so absurdly long and at that point when i feel like stopping i just dont want to leave it unfinished like that yknow?? so i just keep going until im done and then die inside)

i dont think there's a file for the hagoita thingy??? the paddle. thing. i know in some chapters in other stuff it shows images of the item itself. but i looked back to when it was first introduced and there's no image of it showing it. and i tried searching for the file but nothing. so. it prob doesnt exist.

anyway if there's any typos im sorry. its more noticeable on stuff like the name and outfit cuz any typos mess it up, but on text, unless it has that red squiggly, im blind

Preliminary Thoughts on TWST’s Official Eng Translations

Not a fan of “dorm leaders/prefects” being translated as “house wardens”. It makes NRC sound like a prison I mean, school sometimes feels like one, and their PE uniforms do give prison jumpsuit vibes and it makes the dorm leaders seem like... glorified groundskeepers/mansion babysitters. It’s especially strange because they keep the terminology of “dorms” instead of changing it to “houses”. I would have accepted “dorm warden” (still would not have liked it, but I could tolerate it), but “house warden” is just inconsistent.

I would have preferred it if they kept the terms “first year, second year, third year...” to refer to the grade levels instead of “freshman, sophomore, junior...”

I find it odd that Silver’s line on the official website does not have him addressing Malleus by any special title. At least Sebek calls Malleus “the great Malleus Draconia”, but Silver just calls him “Malleus”. This is strange because Silver does refer to Malleus using the honorific “-sama” in the Japanese version, which confers great respect. I thought Silver would at least use “Sir”, “Prince”, “(Young) Master”, or “Lord” for Malleus, but I guess not...?

Another translation I find weird is Jade’s line of course I’d hone in on that as a J Leech simp. The translated line is: “I couldn’t fulfill my contract... And you, my dear, are to blame...” But that’s??? WEIRD???? Because Jade in main story (chapter 4) clearly states that he would never consider making a contract with Azul. The translated line makes it sound as though Jade did make a contract with Azul, and that the player interfered with him; it should be that the player wasn’t able to fulfill their contract and now Jade has come to punish them for it.

They translated Floyd’s “squeezing” into “wrapping around”, which is an... interesting choice?

Oddly enough, they didn’t keep the translation for Crowley’s title consistent. They refer to him as “principal”, “headmage”, and “headmaster” in various locations on the official website and on the App Store description, which tells me that either they haven’t settled on one term yet, they’re using ALL of those terms interchangeably, or whoever was assigned to proofread the text before it went live didn’t do a good job 😂

Translating Rhythmics as Twistunes is a little corny, but I’ll let it slide~

IS IT JUST ME OR ARE THOSE TEXT BUBBLES KIND OF BULKY AND UGLY????? I hope they change those before the launch day.

I’m kind of glad there are no plans for a dub (yet?) because I’m kind of dying at the idea of them giving Rook a really heavy and stereotypical French accent.

I appreciate how the translations don’t shy away from using big words like “magnanimous”, “miscreant”, and “pulchritude”. They respect their players’ intelligence, I guess?? The way the White Day cards were written made me concerned that any official translations we did get would dumb down the language, but I’m glad that is not the case.

Overall, the translations are fine but there are definitely some inconsistencies and the occasional mistranslation or loss of meaning from the Japanese version.

Following is my translation of Silver’s voice lines from his Dorm Uniform card.

⚔️: When I put on my dorm uniform, my back straightens up on it’s own.

⚔️: Whenever I see Lord Malleus fulfilling his responsibilities as our dorm warden, it makes me feel like Briar Valley has plenty of peaceful days ahead of us.

⚔️: What do I do at the dorm? I train. As long as I keep my body moving, I won’t get sleepy.

⚔️: There are many customs at Diasomnia that vary from those of Ramshackle Dorm. If you wish to use my dorm as a reference, please do come visit us sometime.

⚔️: I’ve adored black clothing ever since I was little. It's probably because Briar Valley’s Imperial Guard also wears that color.  

⚔️: This piece here on our dorm uniforms is a spool of thread. It appears to be an ornament connected to the legends of the Thorn Fairy, and how she would use a spinning wheel to impart her blessings upon others.

⚔️: Sebek enrolled at our school this year. He’s a pretty annoying guy, but I bet things will never get boring around here anymore.

Saw in Harry Potter’s Tvtrope fridge page that the 4 dorms are meant to cultivate “intended classes”, with the classes being : 

Gryffindor: Knights

Hufflepuff: Monks

Ravenclaw: Scholars

Slytherin: Noble

And with that realization  and after reading many info (from card stories, voice lines, min story , even seeing dorm uniform designs, etc, tho yes the focus on the great seven based of each dorm-not the prefect) I came to the conclusion that the intended classes of TW are as following: 

Heartslabyul: Law enforcer this dorm is the hufflepuff one of TW ha you wish , back then  in weston college arc black butler also lacks a dorm that is  equivalent to hufflepuff

Savanaclaw: Street thugs

Octavinelle: Businessmen/Inventors/mafias 

Scarabia: Advisor/ Underground mediators

Pomefiore: Entertainer/Assassin/Informants/Spies

Ignihyde: Scientists/Technician/Progammers/Hackers

Diasomnia: Knights/Military

As for the intended mottos, they are pretty much: 

Heartslabyul: Follow the rules

Savanaclaw: Follow the strong

Octavinelle: Nothing is free/spirit of commerce

Scarabia: Why do it yourself when you can make others do it? /Don’t do things directly so you get someone to blame for your shit

Pomefiore: Use underhanded/indirect method/assume other identity if you must, but make sure you do it by your own power

Ignihyde: Why bother with actual interaction when you can solve things with minimum interaction? 

Diasomnia: Stay loyal to your family and don’t shame your organization

Further explanation under read more, and yes, I am aware of the irony that Diasomnia pretty much have  same intended class with Gryffindor but with Slytherin’s values, tho for Ignihyde  and  Savanaclaw’s values and classes are pretty self explanatory I don’t have anything to explain further for those two dorms    especially savanaclaw, let’s just say Yana hates Gryffindor , if how she treats Green Lion in Black Butler didn’t make it clear, how she writes Savanaclaw will

Okay so for Heartslabyul  being law enforcers... It was said Queen of Hearts doubles as the judge in the Wonderland’s  court, and Riddle is very strict about his rules . In addition, the collar that is inflicted by Off With Your Head resembles pillories for prisoners, and it’s law enforcers that have the right to issue them to the arrested, the thing is basically a cuff/restraint. 

Octavinelle being the merchant dorm is very blatant,  it’s even the chapter title, and their dorm uniform is totes not mafia suit, but I will still explain the inventor part. With the information from Azul’s dorm uniform card that 1: his parents own famous restauran 2: Monstro is just around for a year, put the two together and you get the implication that Azul’s parents pretty much bought the Octavinelle common room for him to change into Monstro. They pretty much invest in buying Monstro and training Azul into even better businessman even before he graduates high school. The fishies even spread the rumors of Azul granting wishes as part of their marketing, and the mafia part.... well, is also pretty self explanatory with their modus operandi. 

Scarabia being the advisor dorm, being the dorm based on Jafar is also pretty self explanatry. However, here comes the mediator part. Jamil, being  servant of a noble house that was raised in his master’s manor isn’t exactly part of the upper class, but neither is he exactly part of the lower class. And in his chapter, he try to mediates the Scarabia students or Yuu& Grim to Kalim (not with good intention, but either way he is indeed the middle man). But whatever happened after the deal  isn’t his business, impying Scarabia’s motto is why do it yourself when you got others to do it/get someone else to do it so you can blame them, the latter point is present in Savanaclaw’s arc but moreso in Scarabia as it’s Jami’s exact goal. 

Pomefiore, oh boy here comes the fun part. Pomefiore has their own dance hall,and Vil is also masterful in many forms of art including movie making, making his own clothes, cosmetics, etc. Vil is also a famous influencer on Magicam, and world class model and actor.  At first, it seems like that their intended class is indeed artisan/celebrity, and there is their manners, seemingly making their intended class the nobles as well there is implication many Pome students are rich (and have you seen anything about Pome, i bet most of NRC’s budget goes there) , but then you remember Pome students are known to do well in Potions. 

There is also the fact that the prerequisite to be prefect of Pome is to make the strongest poison, and Vil make his own food. And he is based on Grimhilde, who makes the poison apples. Connect the dots. Vil is most known for his beauty, but question is, is that all there is to him? Answer is no, he is very smart , likely would have strong magical power being one based of the Great Seven, and he even lifts bigger dumbbells than Jack. Vil is the embodiment of the silk hiding steel trope, emphasis on hiding. Hiding his true strength , letting his enemies drop their guard thinking he’s just a pretty boy is pretty much is his modus operandi, You know that trope of good looking people who use their beauty to hidden their dangerous side? That’s Vil. Those kind of people will also use their looks to interrogate people or make others do what they want, and while Vil abhor cuttig corners, he is meant to bring that trope to mind.  Pomefiore is meant for  those ppl who hides their killing intents and methods behind their own beautiful looks, manners, and even creations/performance.

He is not only a good actor, he is also highly self sufficient that he makes his own stuff by himself. An assassin/spy needs good acting skill to blend in , and ofc as an assassin /spy you can hardly trust others so you have to do things by yourself. Other than that, he’s a socmed influencer. As for Diasomnia, their military-like design should emphasis more to their military motif/intended class. Sebek is another pronunciation of Egyptian god Sobek, which also sometimes tied to the military. Knights are often tied to dragons too, tho, most other fictions depict knigths as either dragon slayer or dragon rider, here they serve the dragon. Lilia is explicitly stated to be a knight in Silver’s  robe story, Silver also carries his magic pen like knights would their sword, and both Silver and Sebek are in horse riding clubs, knights are known to patrol on horses back in the day. They are also highly loyal to Malleus, all while Silver and Lilia consider him family. (seriously what do you mean it’s not family bond among Diasomnia as much it’s knight-lord) They are knights focused to protect their lord, with strict manners and ethics, not thugs looking out for fights. they counterattack, but do not initiate attacks.
