I think that the most disgusting thing about sonofthesaiyans is that he outright says that Sasha’s father doesn’t love her enough because he forgave Gabi. He has no right to tell a grieving father that he didn’t love his daughter enough because he didn’t slice open the throat of a brainwashed child. Killing Gabi is not going to bring Sasha back, the world of Attack on Titan doesn’t work like that. Gabi is not the true evil of Attack on Titan, it is corrupt governments like Marley who were ok with mistreating people and using them like weapons. But then again he is the dumb ass who thinks that an anti fascist series like Attack on Titan is pro fascist just because it shows fascist governments in it, so he might actually believe that killing Gabi could bring Sasha back. He probably hates Artur Braus because he is everything that he can never be, a good and honorable man.

It’s the same battle for me every day........Keeping the images of that motherfucking Assassin’s Bullet OUT of my head. As well as everything associated with it in the chapters and episodes that followed.
Between Sasha, Gabi, Niccolo, Kaya, the Brauses, Connie and Jean.....and the profound lack of justice in any of it.
Four years on and it’s still a losing battle for me. This manga and anime left a very bad impact on my mind. Yeah people were pissed at the events of that chapter, some were totally apathetic.......for me it was and is a deeply personal offense.
And seeing that nightmare animated did NOT make things better.
I got more to say about it later, I ain’t finished.
There is no Attack on Titan without Sasha. And there is no Attack on Titan with Gabi.

What is the antisemitism in TUC season 1? Does it have to do with Wally the golem?/gen
Tumblr media
[ID: an ask from an anonymous tumblr user that reads "would love to hear more about the antisemitism in unsleeping city! was a while ago that i watched it and can't remember what you might be referencing but definitely want to be aware of it.]
no, it's not about willy the golem -- i actually think willy is a great addition to the season (even if i wish we got to see more of him), and an indication to me that brennan/the showrunners were definitely trying to be sincere and inclusive. i want to make it clear that i don't think anything antisemitic in tuc is there intentionally; i think it's there out of simple ignorance, which is also why i think fans don't frequently see/comment on it either. but i don't think that's an excuse, either.
my grief with tuc1 is largely centered around its portrayal of robert moses as the villain. especially by making him a greedy, power-hungry lich working en league with bloodsucking vampires. (also his mini is literally a green skinned skull man in a suit. yikes.) here's the thing; i know robert moses was a real life horrible person, who actually was racist and powerhungry etc etc. and i know that robert moses, the real actual person, was jewish. my grief with tuc1 is not that they chose to use robert moses over literally any other person (real or fictional) to be their season villain (though i'd be really curious to know what tuc1 would have looked like with a different villain), but that they chose to take a real jewish person, turn them into an antisemitic caricature, and then only barely add other portrayals of judaism to balance that out.
like, tuc isn't completely devoid of other jewish representation. as you mention, there's willy the golem -- and again, i really like willy, and i love that it's a portrayal of a golem that's faithful to jewish folklore (ie as a benevolent, guardian construct rather than a mindless destructive monster. i am not a fan of how 'golem' is so frequently misused as a generic enemy creature in other fantasy and ttrpg spaces, including other seasons of d20). but as i said earlier, i wish we see more of him in the season, because he's not around very much, and feels a little more like worldbuilding than a full character to me. also, he's not human. jews are people.
the only other human jewish character in tuc1 is...stephen sondheim. which, again, yeah, that's a real person who really was jewish. but i really wouldn't blame you if you had no idea of that when watching tuc1. maybe from the name you could guess he might be jewish, but i don't think people ought to make a habit of trying to 'clock' someone being jewish by having a 'jewish-sounding' surname. as he's portrayed in tuc1, you'd never know he's jewish, unless you happen to already be pretty knowledgeable about the man in real life. it's far more likely you'll know him as a theater legend than anything else (may his memory be a blessing).
now i'm not saying that brennan or the showrunners should have played up the jewishness of Real Person Stephen Sondheim to counterbalance the depiction of robert moses; that just feels weird to me, especially considering that sondheim was literally alive when tuc1 was filmed and released. it's a tricky thing to portray real people in fiction alongside made up characters, especially when they are contemporaries, and i don't think 'outright caricature' is the way to go about that. nor do i think that moses' jewishness should have been played up at all, because again i don't think that would have been particularly true to the person/character, and also Fucking Yikes. but, c'mon, if you hear the names 'moses' and 'sondheim' next to each other, which one do you associate more with judaism?
and as it stands, these are the only representations of judaism in tuc1. one admittedly nice but very minor nonhuman character; one human character you'd never be able to tell was jewish; and a third human character who, while never explicitly referenced as jewish, plays into some really hurtful antisemitic stereotyping. and it was a choice to not include anything else. maybe not a deliberate one, probably more likely one made out of simple ignorance than anything else, but a choice nonetheless. in a city with one of the largest and most visibly jewish populations in the country, and a culture that is inextricably influenced by that jewish population. a jewish population which has been and continues the target of rising hate crimes for years. i know that nyc means different things to different people, and everyone's nyc is their own -- but my nyc is jewish, and it sucks that that its jewishness is referenced directly in only one very minor way, which is greatly overshadowed by its, in my view, really insidious indirect references.
i don't know exactly how to go about addressing this. obviously, the show can't be changed by now. even if it could, i think the final product would be very significantly different from what it is now if the villain was something/someone else. i think including more references to jews in new york, more (human) jewish characters, hell, even mentioning hanukkah celebrations and menorahs in windows (it takes place in late december, after all; depending on the year it's not at all out of place for hanukkah to coincide with xmas!) would help. having literally any more positive jewish representation in tuc1 would, i think, help balance the bad stuff that's there. because, yeah, robert moses was real and he was terrible and he was jewish. but he's one jewish guy in a city with over a million jews, the vast majority of whom are just normal people. i don't want him to be the only vision of us that people get, in tuc1 alone or in any media. i'm not saying that jews can't or shouldn't be villains in fiction; but especially if you are a goyische creator, you should be really careful in how you're portraying us, and if there are other contrasting depictions in your work, too, in order to not (even accidentally) demonize jewish people as a whole.
#sasha answers#anon#unsleeping city#the unsleeping city#long post#sorry for not putting this under a read more but i think people ought to see this. or at least#if two people felt the need to ask me about it then at least they would want to see the full thing uncovered#also fwiw i do think that they tried to address this to some extent when they made tuc2#with more scenes with willy (and incorporating more golem folklore with the animating word in his mouth -- nice touch!)#the jewish immigrant family in the photo flashback encounter (even if the hanukkiah in the picture isn't exactly kosher lol)#and ESPECIALLY rabbi mike. i ADORE rabbi mike. i think he's a WONDERFUL addition#i do still wish he was a more important/prominent character. cause again he isn't in it all that much.#(and he's still like. the only new jewish human character in the campaign.)#but i recognize what he represents and i am happy about it#i do think brennan & the d20 crew tried to improve after tuc1. i do. i see their efforts and i applaud them for it#but still to my knowledge they haven't ever directly addressed the errors made in season 1#and it's extremely rare that i even see other fans mention it#and like. sorry but i am tired. i am. we deserve better. we deserve portrayals in media that show us as People#not just as evil monsters#anyway you're welcome to rb this but be cool in the notes esp if you're a goy#other jews are welcome to (respectfully) disagree with me if they want#also if you so much as mention the word israel on this post you're getting blocked end of

I just finished watching Heartbreak High and the autistic representation? *chef’s kiss* It was so great to see an autistic character played by an autistic person and especially having that character not be a guy (due to the unfortunate stereotype of all autistic people being guys). The stimming? The headphone wearing? The pure excitement about one’s special interest? The getting overwhelmed by every little noise in a public space and not being able to focus? Literally everything else? The “Ok Sia 🙄”? Impeccable, amazing! Not to sound cheesy but it really made me feel seen (especially as a queer autistic person).

Throw it in the bin. I'm done with the DCU. Fuck you, James Gunn. The saga continues of female superheroes in the DCU getting the short end of the stick.
Sasha was PERFECT as Supergirl! Why even give her the part if you're going to do this to her?! 🤬🖕🏻

“I see you.”
If Sasha got to girlboss her way past season 1 lets be real Jon and Martin would be looking at good cows in a little cottage rn. Just sayin.
Also your honorable mention brainrot from me! Her last line is I see you and if that isn’t eyeball influence man- i’ve always thought that Sasha totally had some of that in her already (Gertrude would agree with me lol) so this legitimately could have been Sasha’s first Spooky incident and then she immediately got tabled.

I just saw a Gabi Hater honestly thinking that Gabi could be more hated than Shou Tucker. There must be something wrong with your head if you think that a character you hate for killing your favorite character will be more hated than a man who did something truly evil to his own daughter and her beloved pet dog. Man talk about being delusional here.

Oh Sasha Banks...
It’s been an eventful few days if you’re a Sasha fan.
I can’t believe I am going to say this, but...I do hope that Sasha is gone from the WWE. For whatever reason, they don’t see value in her: they never have, and they never will.
I get a tad irritated when I see people comparing Sasha’s situation to Becky’s. Yes, I get that Becky wasn’t utilized for a few years, but when the fans demanded her push, she actually got one. When Sasha got to the main roster and she was white hot with the crowd, they fed her to Charlotte. Becky comes back from maternity leave and immediately wins a title. Sasha comes back after a mental health break, and is used to legitimize Becky’s title reign.
I have seen the comments, “Well she’s injury prone, she’s walked out twice, etc.”
The injury-prone thing, eh, maybe? Personally, I think she came back in 2019 with a very different mentality. I don’t think she was willing to kill herself for the company anymore. She talked before about wrestling with a separated shoulder, or wrestling with a bruised back, and I just don’t think she was willing to do that anymore. And I mean, if you know you’re never going to be pushed, why would you?
The walkouts...well, in 2019 she was trying to quit and took a mental health break. Is it a walkout? Meh. This past time? Obviously yes. The challenge is that the way the story stands, I do understand it. If the rumors are true, I’d be kind of pissed as well. We all know the story, Naomi and Sasha were told they were going to have singles matches with Ronda and Bianca, where they would lose, they disagreed, wanted to focus on the tag titles, went to Vince, apparently he actually agreed with them, but then it was John Laurinitis who was like, “Nope we’re going through with this.” I mean, imagine being thrown in a random tag team, making it work, and then being told, “Well we’re just gonna put those on the backburner.” I’m sure it didn’t help that those tag titles have been treated like trash since day one. Could they have handled it better? Absolutely. But at the same time, if you are just in an endless cycle of having the rug pulled out from under you, eventually you decide to do what you feel is best.
If this is all true, then this really is Sasha’s make or break moment. She’s leaving the WWE bubble and this is her time to make them eat crow. I kind of want to hear a promo of hers outside WWE, because I know it’s something that people aren’t always high on with her (which I do get), but I know that people often liked when she would talk unscripted. I know the one people reference is where she went off on Alexa Bliss and called her an idiot.
One of the comments on an article said they learned from an old boss, “Go where you’re appreciated, not just where you’re tolerated”. Quite honestly, that really resonated on a personal level. But in Sasha’s case, if someone is willing to pay you and give you some sort of either creative control and/or an actual push, then go for it. Stretch your wings, I say.
All that being said, maybe we’ll see the forbidden door open. She’s supposed to be appearing at Wrestle Kingdom (I think? I’m sorry, I really do only watch WWE), the Rumble is scheduled for after that. Sooooooooo.......just saying.......

the beholding is pretty silly and goofy actually
i was thinking about the way in which the different fear entities in the magnus archives acquire their avatars/those people who work for them but are not quite fully-fledged avatars and it dawned on me.
we all know that everyone who works at the magnus institute (except for sasha) is actually just... grossly under-qualified for the job.
tim studied anthropology and worked in publishing, the only reason he's at the magnus institute is because of his brother
martin straight-up just isn't qualified to be an archival assistant
jon was a researcher, not even remotely prepared for the job of an archivist
elias, pre-jonahfication, spent more time high than sober, and literally just accepted the work offer because of "vibes"
all the other people, daisy, basirah and melanie also just. are there because they happen to find themselves there.
the beholding, this entity that prizes knowing and observing and information ect... gathers its avatars via DECEPTION of all things. by collecting someone who has a thirst for knowledge yes, but not at all those who relish the fear of others, AND by by tricking them into signing a paper and then boom sorry you can't leave now lmao.
and it's such a contrast from corruption, who jane prentiss submits to because "they sing a song so beautiful" or destruction, where the people who become its avatars all were enamoured with fire or pain or destruction beforehand. or natalie with the darkness, who sought out to believe in something.
except for jonah magnus, all the people who become the beholding's little minions are there explicitly AGAINST their will. most other places the avatars end up embracing their avatarness, and relishing in their powers. but with the beholding, everyone is just kinda there. duped into a world they cannot escape from, but they desperately want to.
you could make a case for tim wanting knowledge about his brother, but even then, before he got moved to the archives and shit went down, that drive and need to know had lulled considerably.
jon on the other hand, well he becomes an avatar but is in constant denial about it. and he doesn't WANT to bring the end of the world about. they are the only avatars that actively fight AGAINST what they've become.
i just think it's a little funny, and a little ironic.
