supernatural s14e1 stranger in a strange land (w. andrew dabb)
pre-ep recap being ac/dc shot down in flames much better fit than metallica's nothing else matters from 13x01 vibe-wise and matching the pace of the clips. good job, guys. and smooth segue to it being on in the car
s14e1 / the matrix
wtf jackles, what is this speaking voice/cadence. reminds me of keanu reeves?? usually when i make really out there sound associations, i'm a little high. but that is not the case today. he's acting more like an agent than neo, but getting the keanu vibes :p i can't think of what movie specifically i'm thinking of. the devil's advocate and constantine are the other two keanu movies i've seen a bunch, but i dunno
never good when i'm pulling a clip in the first few minutes 🥴 gonna be a 2-3 day watch i'm guessing.
Tumblr media
also don't really understand the styling choices. i get that it helps make a big visual difference between michael and dean, but like. dude wasn't dressing like this old timey fancy man with a flat cap in the au world. is this 20s-ish? never seen peaky blinders but this seems kinda similar? reading about collar pins and bars now. lol
Tumblr media
is this the grief beard i've heard about. well maintained, if so
MARY Sam, we’re gonna find him. Ketch is working that thing in London. Castiel is in Detroit. I know it’s been three weeks since Dean… Something will break. It has to. SAM Yeah. Yeah, you keep saying that.
so like why does sam need to be in charge and involved in this vampire thing with this bunker full of people? they were fully self organized and fighting before they came here. even if sam is de facto leader for whatever reason; delegate, my guy. no help to anyone if you're not sleeping. call jody in, i bet she could talk some sense into him. also vaguely funny that we're all Team Family Go! but the family i connect with the most for them is jody and her girls
Tumblr media
CASTIEL Does any demon know where Dean Winchester is? KIPLING I’m sorry, did you just say you lost a Winchester? Because, one -- that’s… interesting. And, two, how is that you lost Dean? I thought the two of you were joined at the… [Kipling glances down in a suggestive way.] …you know, everything.
in a way i wish i could have watched this without any knowledge of fandom because my knee jerk response is, ew. because i just don't see anything between dean and cas, i have a hard time grasping they're even close, i've just tried to accept it because the show tells us all the time. but maybe i could have come around to it more if i didn't know about the screaming zeitgeist that is destiel. or maybe i'd have the same reaction, i don't know. but anyway perpetually disgruntled knowing that my reaction is always colored somewhat due to fandom. i try to watch objectively but i know my feelings on things outside the show color my feelings of stuff inside the show
Tumblr media
oh, cas. what have you gotten yourself into this time.
Tumblr media
mmmk
SISTER JO Why would he say “yes” to you? MICHAEL Love.
short and sweet
man i know jackles is trying to do something different but i do not enjoy the way he's speaking as michael. ok now i'm getting umm. brad pitt in interview with the vampire?? like when he's talking to what's his face. for the interview. lol. christian slater! kind of slow, flat fairly emotionless narration.
Tumblr media
um. how in the world is nick's soul in his vessel? didn't crowley remake it or whatever? or did he not die at any point in the ... 7 years intervening between lucifer dumping him in s5 and getting popped back in during s12
from 12x13 CROWLEY I managed to pervert that spell. So your essence wasn't sent back to the cage, but instead, we found your discarded vessel a few years ago… repaired it, improved it, making it a fitting final home for the real you.
whatever, man. nothing makes sense to me anymore. also thinking about jimmy novak called being possessed by castiel like "being chained to a comet" - for all those years
NICK Ow. I don't get it. I don't understand how Lucifer could die and I could live. SAM Yeah, um… I think that maybe it's because the archangel blades were made to kill the archangel inside a-and not the person they, uh -- NICK Possesses and uses to almost end the world twice?
sure. SURE. that makes sense. not at all how anything else ever works on this show, but sure! i mean, i love mark pellegrino too but come on, guys.
SAM Stop saying that, please. MARY What? SAM “It's gonna be fine,” that everything's gonna be fine, we're gonna find Dean, and -- MARY We are. SAM You don't know that. Dean's gone, and we have no idea where he is or -- or if he's even still alive. You know, Michael could have… burned him out or… worse, and… MARY I know. I know he's out there, scared and alone. I know. I know he might never come back. Never think I don't know that. But -- I can't -- I have to think about the good, Sam, because, if I don't, I will drown in the bad. For Dean's sake, I can't do that. We can't do that.
that's fine and reasonable but it's also reasonable that sam doesn't want to hear a baseless placation.
jack getting a grandpa bobby now too apparently
completely zoning out on this demon monologuing. why did they bring the girl along who isn't a hunter. what happened to the devil's trap bullets? and couldn't they make the bullets made out of the angel blades they had on the au world? because with all the dead angels they surely must have a stockpile. wouldn't get this several minute action sequence with fake tension though so
Tumblr media
SAM Enough! There will be no new King of Hell. Not today. Not ever. And if anybody wants the job, you can come through me. Understood? (breathing heavily) So, what's it gonna be?
lol okay
SAM It's the -- It's the magic egg that kicked Lucifer out of the President. I thought we could use it on Michael, but -- Ketch can't find it. So, that's another dead end, which is just awesome.
i'm glad the show remembered because i completely forgot about that thing. thanks for preemptively ruling it out
CASTIEL Sam, are you all right? SAM Yeah, I've been better. I've been worse. You? CASTIEL I'm -- I'm just sorry. I should never have gone to those demons. SAM Cass, I -- No, I-I-I don't blame you. I… Honestly, I-I wish I'd have thought of it first. If it meant finding Dean, I-I'd work with -- I'd do anything.
❤️ take what i can get. (still need to sleep, sammy)
MICHAEL Now, you -- you know exactly what you want. You don't pretend to want to help people or save the world. Your want is pure and simple and clean. And that's why you are worth saving. That's why we are going to work so well together. Because you -- you just want to eat.
LOL what. michael loves vampires!
!! omg lol i just reread my 13x23 with my whole "can't kill michael now that he's wearing dean" is that the whole reason we get pellegrino back as nick, so we can find out that archangel blades don't kill the vessel?? 😂

All Because Of You
Summary: The reader goes to find Castiel before the angels get to him.
Castiel x M!Reader
Tumblr media
Castiel being human, losing his grace, was perhaps one of the most interesting yet hardest thing you had faced yet. Forget God. Forget Lucifer. Castiel human topped all of those for a simple reason. Now, it was incredibly hard to keep down your own human feelings that had stirred up for him a long time ago, and plus, yanno, all the Angels and Demons on the hunt for this one Angel who rebelled against Heaven and all that.
It's been a few days since you left the bunker to go look for Castiel. Sure, Dean and Sam weren't happy, but you knew you couldn't wait any longer for them. It's been weeks since Castiel went on the run and sitting around doing nothing but worrying about him was not good for your mind. You needed to see him, protect him, and make sure he was safe and by your side.
It took a three days to get to Detroit, the last place anyone saw Castiel or 'Clarence', as he called himself. You got the led from a group of homeless individuals that talked to Cas before he picked up a ride in on a truck that was heading to Detroit. This was probably the hardest part of the search. Lucky for you, growing up with the Winchester boys helped when it came to this kind of situation. Still, with all your skills, it was Detriot. A large city with many people, but the people may be your advantage.
"Excuse me," you hummed out to a man who was currently making burgers on the side of the road. The only thing that led you talking to him was Castiel's vessals love for red meat. Now that he was human, Jimmy was probably talking to him a lot more now. "Have you seen a dark haired, blue hair man around here? He would have probably acted a bit out of it?"
"Uh," the man thought for a moment. "Nah, sorry, no one really comes to mind."
"It's alright, thank you." You sighed, parting from the man and getting back on the move.
You took the rest of the day nonstop looking for Castiel with no leads whatsoever. Person after person either said they didn't remember someone like that, or saw so many people that day that it was impossible to even try to remember one man. This race against the clock was getting harder and harder, and frankly, it was getting irritating. All you wished for was Castiel to be safe. He could be hungry, or homeless--but safe was all you wanted cause in the end you knew you could fix both of this issues--all of his issues-- if you just found him.
As you were deep within your mind to try and make up a new way to find the fallen angel, the rain that touched your skin shoved you back into reality. Your eyes gazed as the raindrops that wet your skin before looking up at the dark clouds that surrounded you. A deep sigh filled with worry released from your lips before taking a few steps forwards. Perhaps those few steps were all you needed. Well, that and the rain. When you took those steps you heard a noise, one that would capture almost anyone’s attention. You paused, stood still before turning your head down an ally that seemed to be behind a restaurant.
Down the dark and rainy ally was a man who wrapped himself with this black hoodie he wore. His hair was soaked, not to mention his clothes, but that freezing cold look in his eyes broke your heart beyond anything you've felt before. The darkness obscured the man's face until you took a few steps down the ally. At first you were going to offer the man some food and direct him to a nearby shelter, but the minute he quickly shot his head up to see who was approaching him, everything changed. No matter how much time apart you have from him, you can never forget his face but you noticed that the first thing to go about a person was their voice. You thought that was the saddest thing to ever exist but when you heard it call out to you of all people, remembering his voice again was like seeing him for the first time all over again.
"[Name]?" Castiel croaked out.
You didn't speak but instead nodded to confirm it was you, and not a part of his imagination.
With the weather, you didn't waste any time to get both Castiel and you some shelter. A few minutes of pretending to be someone else and using another's money got you a relatively small but sufficient apartment for the time being.
When Castiel entered the apartment was dark given the time of day, but you quickly turned on the lights after you shut and locked the front door.
"Wow, it’s beautiful." Castiel commented as he looked around.
"It's an apartment that cost a 2,000 dollar deposit, it better be beautiful." You replied as you began to lock and shut all the entrances which included the windows as well.
Castiel kept his eyes on you as you did so, but when he noticed you were finished with your task he asked, "How did you find me?"
You turned to him and placed your hands into your pockets. "Oh, yanno, all my hunter skills went into work and here I am."
"Why aren't Sam and Dean with you?" He asked curiously.
You sighed at the question before taking a seat on the sofa that was provided with the apartment. "I didn't want to wait around. They thought it was dangerous, and it probably was but I don't know, I just couldn't stand being in that bunker wondering if you’re alive or dead."
Castiel's head went down for a moment, his own human mind now spinning with thoughts he wondered if he would ever have if he was still an angel.
"I apologize for worrying you." He suddenly said in more quiet tone. "That was never my intention."
"I know." You smiled before patting down the space next to you. "Come sit and lemme see what you got there."
Castiel's head went on a tilt before he remembered the wound he had on his left upper arm he got from fighting one of the many angels that were out on the hunt for him. The former angel complied with the request, mostly because of his trust and fondness of you.
When he sat down, you turned towards him and began to unbutton his white shirt after he took off the soaked hoodie. Castiel watched your attentively as you did so. The way your hands played with his shirt and the focus that was seeped deep into your eyes as you did so. Once his shirt was open, you gazed back up and into his eyes. He watched a faint smile, a comforting one, stretched across your lips before slipping the shirt off his shoulders and exposing his entire upper body.
Your eyes shot to the bloody rage he used around his arm, mostly just to stop the bleeding. Worry of an infection took place in your mind, but luckily that didn't seem to be the case.
"Look at you," you whispered. The words catching Castiel's attention quicker than ever before. "You're lucky this isn't infected."
"I suppose so." He replied under his breath as he continued to watch you, never once looking away.
You hovered your finger over the wound that was slanted across his bicep. The fact that it hadn't healed wedging itself into your mind making you say, "You really are human."
"Yes." Castiel said. "The whole experience has been very tiring."
You laughed at that, the chuckle that came from your chest making the former angel experience something that he hasn't before. Sure, he got chills from the cold or rain, but never from a simple laugh.
Next, you began to examine the wound. Overall, it seemed to be healing fine but you really wanted to clean up the dried blood that pooled around the actual cut. So, you grabbed a cotton pad and dabbed some rubbing alcohol on the surface.
"This may sting a bit," you warned Cas before gently patting it against the wound. You watched his face scrunch up a bit as he got used to the stinging sensation. Though, in the end it seemed like he took the pain rather well.
You smiled as you placed the pad on the table next you, your hands picking up some proper bandages before commenting, "You took that better than Dean. You getting used to being human?"
"Ah, it's all new to me. Hunger. Cold." He explained, his eyes meeting yours as he said, "This feeling of being alone."
You stared at Cas for a moment. Yes, he was still the same, and yet so much about him was different. He was learning how to understand human emotions, and after all this time it just took being human to truly get it. To you, it explained how truly complex human emotions were. Something about this Cas pained you in more than words could explain, and for some reason the desire to comfort him was absolutely overwhelming.
"You aren’t alone anymore." You said. Your mind focusing on one action, and one alone. You knew it would disappear until you acted on it, so, you carefully leaned in and gave the man a gentle kiss upon his cheek. The stubble he grew while away tickling your skin. When you backed up, you gave a kind smile and said, "I won't let you be alone, I promise."
Castiel remained silent, yet his eyes remained connected with yours until something clicked in his mind and they darted right down to your soft, vulnerable lips. He would be lying if he said he never studied them before, but right now the urge he wanted to act on for so long was stronger than ever. When he noticed you doing the same, something snapped. Castiel didn't waste any time to lean in and connect his lips with yours. At first, something told him not to rush or else you'd get scared away. So, he waited for you to make the next move and when he felt your lips sensually move against his, his next move was to do the same. At first, he really had no idea how to go about kissing and all he wanted to do was to impress you in the best way he could. So, he mimicked you, but if you had your eyes open and noticed his furrowed brows, you would instinctively tell he had absolutely no idea what was going on. All he knew was that with you, it felt better than he could have ever imagined.
Exploring your body was perhaps one of the best things he had gotten to experience as a human. Everything was so overwhelming in a way that he never would have dreamed. Though, perhaps the best thing about the entire thing was that it was with you. The way your squirmed underneath him, the sounds you made when he pleasured you, not to mention the way you made him feel was something he wouldn't trade up for the world to the point where he felt almost saddened when his body tired out on you.
Both of you laid on your backs, the sheets covering up to your abdomens, with this dazed looks in your eyes. Still, with that look something in your human mind wanted him to say something. Say anything.
You turned your head to him, his gaze still aimed up. "Well? Say something."
Castiel took in a deep breath, his eyes darting around as you noticed him try to think of something until he said, "There aren't words."
You stared at him before turning on your side, your body still facing him. "So, it was okay?"
This was the time Castiel turned to make eye contact with you. His injured arm raised, the palm of his hand against the back of his head. He stared at you for a moment before saying with a small smile, "Very much so."
You smiled a bit to yourself until you noticed his face go from happy to concerned, which prompted you to get a bit more serious for him. After all, you didn't want to make him feel embarrassed.
"Um.." he mumbled out. His eyes darting down and up again in a nervous fashion as he asked, "What I did, that was, uh.. correct?"
You couldn't help a large smile to snake itself across your lips as you nodded with a soft, "Very much so."
"Good," he said with a look that mirrored yours. And the smile he shined was almost designed to make you even more infatuated with him. And that laugh after--God that laugh--hearing it was everything to you.
You stared at him for a moment before calling his name. His head turning to you as your prompted yourself up and into his chest. He couldn't exactly make eye contact with you, but just having you right next to him, especially in this state, was more than he could ask for.
"Before, my promise? I'd like to add on to it." You suddenly said. The words confusing Castiel greatly, after all, the promise you made to him before was like music to his ears. What more could you say that could make him even more of a fool for a human like you?
"You don't have to." Cas said.
"But I want to." You cut him off and took a deep breath. You turned your head a bit, snuggling into him more and giving him a soft, loving kiss on his chest before saying, "I promise to protect you. To the end of the line because you mean more than family to me."
Castiel didn't waste anytime to take his arm around you, holding you closer if that was even possible. The words you spoke probably meant more to him than anything he's heard in his life. After all, with you, it was like you changed him from the inside out in ways that he never even imagined when he first met you.
"I promise as well, [Name]."

With Arms Wide Open (Dean Winchester x Reader) Part 1
Tumblr media
More John Winchester hate. This time in a full story version.
None of them were quite sure how it happened. One moment they were hot on the trail of yellow eyes, and the next moment, Y/N, Dean, Sam and John were waking up in an abandoned building hands tied above their heads. Fear was sinking into all of them as they weighed the options of how they could possibly get out, but no one was more afraid than Y/N, especially knowing that she had a secret, one that could change everything.
“You know, I really thought you guys would put up much more of a fight. This was just too damn easy.” A voice chuckled as yellow eyes strayed into the room.
Y/N and Sam were on one wall and Dean and John were on the other. Across the room Y/N stared at Dean eyes wide. Y/N and Dean had been together since high school, and hunting together since before then. Y/N was the only person Dean really considered to be his friend growing up, and as they grew up those feelings of friendship morphed into something else. He couldn’t imagine his life without her, she was a badass hunter who was absolutely gorgeous, but more than that she was caring and kind, and she could out sass the hunter any day. He loved her. So much so that he actually considered giving up hunting to give her an “apple pie” kind of life. But now in the situation they found themself in, he was afraid that would never happen.
“It wasn’t even fun.” Yellow eyes pouted as he walked around smirking at the group. “But I know something that will make this much more interesting.”
Everyone was struggling at their binds as Azazel inched closer to John.
“Don’t!” Dean screamed.
“Oh don’t worry Dean-o. My plan involves you too.”
Y/N could feel her wrists getting irritated by the ropes, trying her best to pull her self free, but she knew it was useless.
“Now John, I have a deal for you.”
“Why would I ever make a deal with you.” John snarled.
“You are going to change your turn once you hear what I am offering. I am offering to bring Mary back.”
The silence that fell over the room was deafening. John and the boys all looked shocked with a slight hint of concern. But Y/N, she looked terrified.
She knew that John would take that deal no matter what the consequences were, and Azazel had said Dean was a part of the deal as well, so she knew what he wanted.
“What are the terms!” Y/N snapped trying to get John to think before he acted but she could see he was already thinking.
“I bring Mary back. Your precious wife and mother of your children.” Azazel whispered closer to John luring him deeper into the deal. “In exchange, I get Dean.”
Y/N’s stomach dropped.
“No!” Sam screamed but John said nothing. Dean’s eyes immediately looked over locking with Y/N’s giving her a sad look.
“Don’t you dare John,” Y/N snapped. “Don’t you fucking dare!”
“This is not your decision to make Y/N.” Azazel said as he came over and grabbed her face in his hands.
She spat at him which only earned her a slap across the face.
“She isn’t a part of this, leave her alone.” Dean screamed as tears began to well up in his eyes.
Azazel smiled as he turned back to the eldest brother.
“She started it, you sure picked a feisty one.” He sneered as he turned back to look at John. “Now Johnny, this is a limited time offer so the clock is ticking. You need to decide.”
“Dad,” Dean’s voice cracked hard he couldn’t believe his father was actually considering this deal.
“Dad don’t!” Sam screamed as he cried.
Y/N was spiraling. She couldn’t lose Dean, she couldn’t, he was her whole world. And now with the secret she had, he couldn’t leave her. Her mind was racing as she tried to figure out any possible way to stop John from taking this deal.
“Take me instead!” Y/N screamed before she even fully thought about what she was saying.
“Y/N, no!” Dean snapped as he pulled even harder at the restraints.
Azazel turned back to look at her amused. “Now why would I want you, you are nothing special, you are just Dean’s fuck buddy. You are no Winchester.”
Y/N sighed tears streaming down her face as she avoided looking at Dean.
“No I’m not, but I am carrying a Winchester inside of me.” Y/N said, silencing the room once more.
“Wha...What?” Dean stuttered.
“I’m pregnant.”
Azazel’s expression changed to a serious one as he snapped his fingers and Y/N was released from the restraints as she landed on the ground.
Slowly yellow eyes inched his way towards her, she quickly scrambled for her gun but he was on her before she had a chance. He wrapped his hand around her throat lifting her off the ground. “If you are lying I will end you right now.” He screamed as he roughly placed his hand on her stomach digging his fingers into her skin. He held her like that for a moment as she struggled to breath before finally he dropped her to the ground laughing.
“This is the best trade I could have possibly asked for. Making sure that the Winchester line doesn’t continue, and killing Dean’s love right in front of him. Do we have a deal Y/N?”
“Yes.” Y/N sobbed as she stared down at the ground sobbing.
“No!” Dean cried and everyone heard as the wooden beam Dean was tied to cracked as he pulled on the rope.
“Now John, aren’t you proud of this beautiful girl here.” Azazel grabbed her face again dragging her over to John. “She is willing to sacrifice herself and her unborn child all so that your son wouldn’t die so you could get your wife back.”
“Y/N I…” John started but he didn’t have anything to say, he just looked down at the ground ashamed.
“Well, Y/N might as well say your goodbyes to your precious Dean.” Azazel threw her to the ground at Dean’s feet. “I will give you a moment but if there is any funny business I will kill everyone in this room.”
“Dean,” Y/N bolted to her feet wrapped her arms around her crying into his chest. “I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry.”
“Don’t do this, I need you Y/N.” Y/N could feel his tears falling into her hair.
“Everything is going to be alright Dean, I promise. I love you so very much.”
Y/N quickly turned around glaring at John as she did so.
“Oh no no I want Dean to watch your pain.” Azazel spun her around. “I want him to see the love of his life and mother of his unborn child in agony.”
“Don’t you dare touch her, I won’t stop, I won’t stop hunting you, and when I find you I will destroy you.” Dean screamed his voice so deep it sounded as if he was growling.
Y/N held her breath as she waited for the pain to come but it didn't. Instead all she heard was Azazel laughing.
“God, you are all so stupid. Did you really think I would bring Mary back?”
“What?” Y/N asked as she turned back to face him. “We made a deal you can’t…”
Azazel smacked Y/N across the face hard enough that it sent her to the ground.
“I can do whatever I want!” He screamed. “That being said, I will be back for you and your baby in about nine months, how does that sound.”
“No!” Both Dean and Y/N screamed. Y/N bolted to her feet grabbing her gun. The minute she fired she was thrown backwards into the wall. The wind was knocked out of her and she lay on the floor gasping.
“See you all soon!” Azazel laughed and then he vanished and everyone’s restraints fell away.

Payback | Dean Winchester
✦ pairing — Dean Winchester x female!Plus Size Reader
✦ word count — 2.2k
✦ request — I was wondering if you could do a dean winchester imagine that is like the reader is like young and has been with the boys since she was 18 and now she’s like around 21 or 22. She lives at the bunker with them and helps with research. So, basically she’s fallen in love with dean and has been in love with him for years. She never says anything because she watches him go after all these skinny girls and thinks she will never be good enough since she’s big and doesn’t think he’d ever like her. Then one day she basically just reaches a breaking point and it comes out to dean, and after some angst they get together. Then maybe some fluff or smut?
✦ warnings — angst, age gap (reader is in her twenties while Dean is in his forties), reader is kinda insecure at times, language, mentions of past sexual partners, mentions of a past ilegal relationship, a twinge of jealousy, suggestive stuff, some fluff.
════════════════════════
You heard laughs on the other side of the bar, right under the Bud Light neon sign. Unable to stop yourself, you looked that way.
A small friend group had erupted in laughter. There was a tall guy in the middle of two redheads — you couldn’t see very well, but you could tell he had caught you staring.
So you deviated your eyes to the right, where the bartender served one of your companions another beer. A couple of beers in fact. Dean was talking to a woman, undoubtedly charming her as he rested his elbow on the bar and leaned in to whisper in her ear.
You couldn’t look any longer, you would be sick if you did. He should’ve been doing that to you.
Realistically, you were probably twice her size or more, but you still could dream.
That was the problem, truly — you only could dream. Dean would quit hunting before even considering seeing you as a potential conquest. By this point, you should have been used to it.
Your eyes went back to the friend group from earlier. The tall guy held your gaze for a moment — you couldn’t figure out his eye color, or what his eyes showed under the uneven light, but you damn well could see he was handsome.
Not wanting to give him the wrong impression, you turned to your side and picked up your jacket.
Maybe you should also start to pay attention to the men who were actually interested.
But they weren’t Dean Winchester.
Comparing every man you met to him was a reflex, just like comparing yourself to the women he picked up at bars.
The Bunker was eerie every hour of the day, but there was something especially uncanny about an empty Bunker in the middle of the night. Devastatingly so.
Turning on the lights as you made your way towards the library, you made a beeline towards the kitchen. You weren’t in the mood for drinking anymore or for food, but you knew you needed to drink water.
Taking refugee in the library, you looked around a few news sites to see if you found something. It wasn’t difficult to find something shady or weird going on, but filtering out conspiracy theories was a pain in the ass.
Eventually, you found just what you were hoping you would. Dean and Sam rarely took you with them for hunts, but perhaps you could convince them this time to at least let you watch from the car.
Sam came home a little later, tipsy enough to be in a good mood. You told him about the case you had found, he said he would check it out in the morning and wished you a goodnight.
Dean didn’t come home. Why would he when he could have literally anybody he wanted?
You didn’t get any sleep. You had hoped that listening to an audiobook would lull you, but like most things, it wasn’t enough to even entertain you.
You were sick of this, of being into somebody who would never be into you. And who the fuck loses sleep for somebody who doesn’t see them as anything more than a sibling? You, apparently.
You needed coffee and a hug, but coffee by itself would have to do.
To your luck, Dean was already in the kitchen when you entered. His hair was wet which meant he was, thankfully, fresh out of the shower.
Instead of greeting you, he asked, “Where’s Sammy?”
You shrugged. “I haven’t seen him since last night.”
“He took the car.”
You didn’t even know Sam had brought the car home the night before. “He must have found the case interesting.”
“There’s a case?”
“Kind of. It’s not too far away from here,” you explained, “but I wasn’t sure it was something up our alley. I guess Sam thought it was.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Because you weren’t here.” You could tell your answer offended him. Good.
“You should have called.”
“Babying you isn’t my job, Dean.”
“Funny you say that when babysitting you isn’t mine and yet...”
“Can you stop treating me like a fucking child for two seconds?”
“Stop acting like one and I might.”
“God, you’re fucking insufferable. I can’t believe I’m in love with you!”
You didn’t know whose eyes were wider, if his or yours.
“Shit,” you muttered under your breath.
He tried to be nonchalant, but Dean couldn’t even move. “Sweetheart, come on. It’s okay.”
You effusively shook your head. “It’s isn’t.”
“You’re overreacting.”
“No, you don’t get to tell me what to do or how to fucking react.” You were yelling now. Why were you yelling over this?
“I— well, I don’t know what to say.” He stuttered. “I mean, you are a kid. I could be your dad who had a kid at a young age, okay? This is fucking crazy.”
“You weren’t supposed to know. It’s humiliating.”
“I’m not going to give you shit about it.”
“No, you are. And then you’re gonna go and fuck somebody who’s actually hot and interesting and you’re gonna make me feel worse.”
“Hey, you’re interesting.”
“I’m not. And even then, you don’t go for them because they’re interesting, do you?”
“What do you want me to say?”
You wanted him to say that you were attractive too, that he would go for you in a heartbeat.
“Nothing.”
Both of you remained silent then. He had many chances to make it right, to have enough pity for you to at least apologize for not realizing you were in love with him sooner.
“ I’m gonna go,” you announced, having decided that this wasn’t worth it. The humiliation hurt, but his reaction stung.
He reached over and stopped you. “Wait, wait, wait.”
“What now?” Your voice broke and your lip trembled. Not now, you thought. But now it was.
“Don’t cry.”
“I can’t help it.”
He hugged you to his chest. “I hate seeing you cry.”
His arms were tightly wrapped around you, a hand on the back of your head and the other on your upper back.
“You’re making me feel even more stupid,” you admitted through tears.
Dean sighed heavily. His hand twitched against your clothed skin as he tried to keep himself from rubbing his face. “You know, maybe you need a break.”
“Are you really trying to get rid of me already?”
He didn’t deny it. So you pushed him off you and stormed out. You couldn’t even get a fucking consolation hug.
════════════════════════
You liked to think you were doing a good job avoiding him. It wasn’t like he spent that much time at home either way.
Expecting him to care had been too much, it seemed. You hadn’t wanted him to beg, or even fantasized about him chasing after you — you just wanted him to care, to at least told you he would forget about it or pretend you hadn’t said anything.
Sam entered the library, feigning interest in the stack of books you had piled on the table two nights ago.
He stalled, opening the one on top as though he hadn’t seen it before.
You shuffled in your seat. Waiting for whatever he would say.
He cleared his throat so you’d look up. You did.
“Dean and I are going out for a drink or two. Want to come?”
“No, I’m gonna watch something on my laptop and go to bed early.”
Sam gave you a worried look. “Well, if you need anything...”
“Have fun.”
Maybe Dean had been right, maybe you needed a break, and maybe —just maybe— this wasn’t the place you were meant to be at.
But you wanted to be there, and you wanted him. It fucking sucked that you would never get what you wanted just because you weren’t thin.
Story of your life.
You stayed in the library longer than you planned and eventually your tv marathon was held there. You had everything you needed and the chairs were comfortable enough.
Your laptop rested on the other side of the table as you leaned onto said table with your forearms and laid your head on your arm.
A knock on the thick door startled you. Looking up, you found green eyes.
“Did I scare you?”
You pressed the space bar to pause your show. “I wasn’t expecting you guys to come back early.”
“Sammy left with somebody so he’s not coming home tonight.”
You hummed, unsure as to what you were supposed to say. Should you say that you were happy for Sam? Should you ask why he hadn’t left with somebody too?
Dean spoke before you could come up with something. “Can we, uh, talk?”
Seeing you nod, Dean approached the table. He didn’t sit down, forcing you to crane your neck.
“I’ll find somewhere else to live,” you assured him.
He frowned, looking down as he searched for your now shifty eyes. “You’re leaving?”
“Isn’t that what you wanted to talk about?”
“No.” He rubbed his palm against his forehead. “I don’t want things to be awkward between us.”
You twisted your mouth. “It’s a little late for that.”
He hurriedly said, “I don’t want you to leave. You’re part of the family.”
“I think I deserve space to move on.”
A groan slipped past his throat and lips, rumbling in his chest. He was growing desperate. “Look... I’m trying to be the responsible adult here because God knows you won’t be.”
“So now I’m an adult?”
“It was never my intention to treat you like a child. I just wanted to put some distance between us.”
“You could have said so.” You didn’t think you would need to state the obvious to somebody as smart as Dean.
“I didn’t want things to be weird or to give the impression that I could take advantage of you if you were too close. I would never do that.”
Not proud enough to pretend you knew what he was talking about, you admitted, “I don’t understand what you’re getting at.”
“You’re pretty,” he blurted. “Really fucking pretty and interesting and so attractive that’s kinda unfair. And you’re also too young.”
“Dean.”
“Mmmh?”
“Kiss me.”
“Weren’t you listening to me?”
“Just kiss me,” you insisted. “We’ll forget about it if it doesn’t feel right.”
Dean took the chair beside yours out and pulled it to the side. His eyes didn’t meet yours as he leaned in, but they did when his nose brushed yours.
He softly placed his lips on top of yours. You saw his eyes screw shut before you closed yours. It was short and sweet, and when he parted from you, you feared you would have to go back to hide the way you felt about him.
Grabbing you by the waist, Dean made you stand up. He wrapped an arm around you while you rested your hands on his sides as a reflex.
He kissed you again, hard. So hard he unintentionally pushed you against the table. His tongue tasted of whiskey and those bacon-flavored chips you had never had the heart to tell him weren’t that good.
You brought a hand up to the back of his neck, kissing him deeply.
Dean took advantage of the fact that he had you trapped between the table and his body to caress yours. He started with your back and dragged his hands down to your ass.
His hands traveled to your torso, where he could surely feel your belly up, fingers toying with the hem of your black t-shirt.
You stopped his fingers from lifting your top and pulled away from the kiss. “Wait.”
“Having second thoughts?” he breathlessly asked.
“I’m not what you’re used to,” you explained through ragged breathing. “At all.”
”Really?”
You nodded, ashamed. One thing was him knowing how big you were and other was him seeing it for himself.
“Don’t take this the wrong way...”
“That’s a great way to let me know you’re about to insult me.” Fuck. You were getting defensive again — what a way to kill the mood.
“I’m not!” he defended himself. “I was going to point out that you’ve been around for a relatively short amount of time to know what I’m used to.”
“I’ve never seen you with a fat person before.”
“And I’ve never seen you with somebody older than you before.”
Was he playing dumb? “Of course you have.”
“Huh? When?”
“That guy in Texas was well in his thirties. And I dated somebody in their twenties when I was 16, I’m not too proud of that one, but—“
He interrupted you. “Nevermind. Shut up.” Dean kissed you again, bringing you flush against him.
You smiled against his mouth. “Is somebody jealous?”
“Maybe.”
“Good. Serves you right.”
“You’re evil.” He bit down your bottom lip and pulled on it.
“It’s just payback, I promise.”
Dean snorted. “Can’t say I don’t deserve it.”
You remained silent, allowing him to dissipate the tension. You would let him do whatever he wanted, regardless of the outcome, but you were too scared to say it.
You didn’t have to.
“Hey.” He cupped your face. “We don’t have to do anything you’re not comfortable with,” he assured you. His voice was uncharacteristically soft. “We can take our time.”

______________________________________________________________
Alright so, not to sugar coat anything but this was an absolute nightmare.
You, Sam and Castiel had gotten word of a hunt - well more Sam but that’s besides the point - and had left yesterday. You’d paused at a gas station outside of a place called Charming Acres but the dude at the counter said something was off about the place… so naturally (or supernaturally) you all went to check it out. And a dude’s head just completely blew up out of the blue after he came in for his phone?
Pulling into the town itself, now that was something. You felt as though you’d walked into a 1950s sitcom about some cheesy, lovesick marriage story. Something that you’d like to stay well away from. Consequently, you met a cheesy, lovesick couple called Justin and Cindy Smith who said they’d heard absolute zilch about any deaths and “this is a very close-knit community, nothing goes on here without everyone knowing” blah blah blah.
Anyway, the strangest thing for you wasn’t the clothes, nor was it the 1950s behaviour, no, it was the fact Justin didn’t seem to recognise what a phone was. You silently ogled at him but he paid no attention to you. So now you definitely thought something was off about this place.
After that fateful encounter, you all stumbled upon the local diner “Harrington’s” who was run by the Mayor Chip Harrington and his daughter Sunny. You thought Sunny was a very sweet young woman who honestly looked like someone you’d get along with, however you noticed her head perked up once conversation about Conrad (watermelon head guy) started. Castiel so delicately stated, “Oh no! His head exploded” rendering everyone in the diner speechless.
The Mayor stuttered for a moment then questioned “Excuse me?”
“Like a ripe melon in the sun.”
Whilst this confrontation was happening, Sunny gave you and Sam milkshakes, as Cas had refused earlier, so you were busy trying not to spit it out as you found that conversation hilarious. Chippy boy gave you the information where Conrad was last seen and then you all took off but not before Sam abruptly said “Alright, you know what? We’re leaving, bye.” And that was that.
When you’d all arrived at the boarding house, a too cheerful Ms. Dowling greeted you at the door, and creepily said she knew you were coming because it’s a small town and things travel fast. Honestly, what is it with these people? From there, and after a brief explanation on why you all were there, she showed you to Conrad’s room and said he moved in a few weeks ago.
Being your observant self, you came to the conclusion that the bed had been barely used but there were passionate and just plain disgusting letters under the mattress addressed from Sunny (so maybe she wasn’t so innocent, neither were you).
At the same time Sam suggested you all stay overnight and divulge and investigate more thoroughly in the morning and yet his almost desperate tone of voice put you on edge. Obviously, you were all tired and weary but Sam was just on a whole new level of “oh this is amazing, we should stay here because it’s so cool”. So reluctantly, you and Cas agreed but not before exchanging an uncertain glance with each other, the intuition of a teenager and an angel right?
Sam and you were sharing a room since Cas had insisted on his own, and instantly something changed with how he addressed you. “(Y/N), please take your shoes off, you’ll ruin this lovely carpet,” and “(Y/N), sweetheart, don’t you think wearing something a little more lady-like would be more appropriate, hm?”
All you could do what was sit and stare because not once had Sam ever been this pedantic or pathetic and he certainly had never called you “sweetheart”, so too baffled to engage in intelligent conversation, you went to bed just after Sam as you were too busy burning incredulous holes into the back if his hairy head. Struggling to grasp sleep, you softly whispered a “What the fuck?” and thank god Sam didn’t hear you because you would’ve absolutely hated the outcome.
The next morning you were woken up quite rudely by an angel banging on your door. Blearily you struggled out of bed and opened the door, rubbing your eyes. “What time is it?” You said.
“Time to get up, get dressed and Sam-Sam?”
Noting Castiel’s confusion, you turned quickly in what was once Sam’s direction only to find your lovable older brother had disappeared to Chuck knows where. Great, man hunt at ridiculous o’clock in the morning. Cas immediately raced down to the stairs to seemingly find Ms. Dowling leaving you rushing to change into something more appropriate that pyjamas.
Descending the stairs you notice the front door open and a frantic looking Castiel waiting in the Impala, waving for you to get in. Shouting a quick “thank you!” to Ms. Dowling, you sprant for the car and sat in Sam’s seat.
Castiel started the car and you asked “So? We know where he went?”
“I’ve been told he left this morning saying he was going on a walk to the diner and wanted a milkshake, but only after screaming at Ms. Dowling who had her eardrums blocked with ear plugs,” he said. You nodded, absorbing the information and pondered why Sam would just up and leave for a milkshake.
“Cas, you don’t think that there’s something wrong with the milkshake? Or like, this town in general? Because I do and Sam was being a real overbearing douchebag after you left yesterday and acting completely out of character.”
He didn’t hesitate to nod his head, “I must admit, the strange customs have piqued my interest and Sam did drink quite a lot of that milkshake yesterday so it might be a possibility that there is a supernatural force going on here.”
He looked like he wanted to say more, but you’d turned a corner and arrived just before the diner. Castiel left the car and went to inspect whilst you decided a smart move would be to ring Sam’s phone… only to find it ringing in the back of the car. Typical frustrating Winchester.
Placing your hands on your head, you massaged your temples and tried to think of any reasonable explanation as to what on earth was going on.
You heard the driver’s door being opened and looked over to see Castiel already turning the keys in the ignition. “He’s gone to Mr and Mrs. Smith's house,” was the only explanation you received.
Suddenly determined, you nodded and said, “Alright, we’re getting somewhere, onward!” So, the car started and picked up speed, as you made your way to the Smith’s house you took a chance to observe the area a bit more.
It was definitely something outdated and old-fashioned but the people did look happy, even if the shops were called something despicable like “The Rainbow Restaurant". It was very bright and colourful and you didn’t doubt that even if a thunderstorm hit, these people would still be acting on top of the world.
Upon finally reaching your destination, you took notice of the white-picket fence and the massive garden. The house was huge and definitely unnecessary for only two people. Regardless, you and Cas sauntered up to the door and knocked three times respectively. On the third Cindy opened the door with a clear smile on her face and a very pleasant scent of lavender perfume. “Hello, can I help you?”
You and Cas glanced at each other before he answered, “First of all, I’d like to offer my condolences for your husband's death but we really need to know-”
He was cut off by a very confused Cindy Smith who said, “My husband? Honey, I think you might be mistaken. My darling husband is in the kitchen, fetching his newspaper. Justin, dear, come say hello!”
Again, Cas looked like he wanted to continue but a very familiar, moose-like voice interrupted “Coming darling! Won’t take two slices  of a carrot cake!” It was, unmistakably, Sam.  You gaped and stared questioningly at Cas in silent question. He merely returned your look.
Moments later, Sam appeared in the doorway. Wearing a pair of glasses. A ponytail. And a fucking cardigan. A cardigan, because why the hell not? He wrapped his hands around Cindy’s waist and looked at us in confusion. Or sorry, at Cas in confusion, but when his gaze landed on you his face went more stern.
“Young lady, do you not remember what I said about un lady-like clothing? Because those denim jeans and that ridiculous jumper are hardly suitable for my daughter, little miss. I suggest you get in this house right now and put on that lovely dress your mother bought you,” he basically seethed.
Now you were definitely the equivalent of a fish, with your wide mouth and wide eyes. You managed to compose yourself a bit before stuttering “Sam?”
His eye twitched and there was no warning before he grabbed your arm and pulled you in the house then promptly dragged you into the sitting area. He guided you to the sofa on the left of the fireplace and very softly explained, “My sweet honey, I know that this is hard for you, but your mother and I want what’s best for you. Now, be a good girl and wait here until your mother and I have finished our pleasant conversation with our new neighbour, hm?” Then he planted a kiss on your forehead and returned to Cindy’s side to continue conversing with Cas.
All you could think was: what the fuck?

I. “Sorry,” the guy says, his voice deep and sun-warmed. Dean steps back, extending his hands as if to say no problem, and then he recognizes the guy--it’s Castiel, the dude from the campus coffeeshop with the weird name that made a bunch of people look up, Dean included.
“You’re Castiel,” Dean says. “I’m Dean.”
“I’ve never been introduced to myself before,” Castiel replies, but he’s grinning, and he sticks out his hand for Dean to shake. Dean helps Castiel pick up the papers he dropped when Dean ran into him, and they walk to their next class together, because it turns out Religion 101 and Intro to Philosophy are in the same building. Castiel tosses Dean a peace sign as he turns towards his classroom, and Dean waves back.
II. A week later, Dean's outside his history professor’s office to get feedback on a paper when Castiel walks up, his head buried in a book. He looks up when Dean coughs, and then a smile grows on his face.
“How are you, Dean?” Castiel asks, as if there hasn’t been a gap in their conversation at all.
“I’ve been better. Dr. Turner is about to ream me over this essay. I may have...left it until the last minute.” Dean paused. “How are you?”
“Trying to finish reading this book before my next class. I may have...also left it until the last minute.” Castiel’s smile grows broader.
Just then, Dr. Turner opens his office door, and Dean smiles at Castiel ruefully.
“Hey, Dean,” Castiel says, just as Dean follows Dr. Turner into the office and is about to close the door, “I never got a last name.”
“Winchester. You?”
“Novak.”
III. “Who the hell would drive this monstrosity?” Benny, Dean’s coworker at the auto shop he works at after class, asks. They’re both staring at a massive gold Lincoln Continental from the seventies that has a popped tire and is, according to their boss, making “funny noises.”
“That would be me,” a familiar voice says, and Dean turns to see the shock of dark hair and vibrant blue gaze that indicates Castiel Novak.
“Oh, hey, Cas--Castiel,” Dean says.
“Cas is fine. But yes, I drive this...’monstrosity.’” Cas uses finger quotes and everything.
“You and Dean should get along, then,” Benny quips, “He acts like his car was God’s gift to mankind.”
“Hey!” Dean protests. “Baby demands respect.”
Cas quirks an eyebrow. “You call your car Baby?”
“So what?” Dean frowns at Cas, although it’s difficult, what with the twinkle he can see in the other guy’s eye.
“So can you fix my car?”
“We can,” Benny says. “For sure.”
After Cas leaves, Benny elbows Dean and winks at him. Dean decides to pretend not to know Benny for the rest of their shift.
IV. They see each other all the time after that, almost like the universe is pushing them together. When Cas sees Dean’s car, his dad’s old 1967 Chevy Impala, he tells Dean it’s a “ridiculous” car, and Dean only doesn’t write him off completely because he’s starting to like Cas.
They run into each other in the student union or the library and do homework. If they’re both at the coffeeshop where Dean first heard Cas’ name, they sit together. Cas shows Dean pictures of his cats and Dean tells Cas stories about what his little brother, Sam, who’s still in high school, has been up to. He learns that Cas’ whole family lives over five hundred miles away, that Cas chose this university to get away from them. Cas learns in turn that Dean is only thirty minutes from his hometown on purpose, in case his mom or brother need him.
Cas is a member of their university’s beekeeping club and he’s double majoring in philosophy and English. Dean doesn’t know what he wants to major in yet, maybe social work, so he’s getting all his pre-reqs out of the way. Cas says that it’s okay to not know what he wants to do, and Dean believes him.
This goes on for a couple of months, and at some point hardly a day goes by where they don’t see each other, and it’s kind of the best thing that’s ever happened to Dean.
V. Dean doesn’t often go to parties, but his friend Charlie who he met in DnD club found out about some frat having one this weekend and apparently they had to go, which is how he’s found himself standing awkwardly in the hallway of a random fraternity, nursing a potentially hazardous red Solo cup of jungle juice.
“Well hey there, stranger.”
Dean turns to see Cas holding a beer. “Hey,” Dean replies, feeling his face warm. He would be lying if he said he wasn’t attracted to Cas, but Cas is his friend, and besides, Cas is cool. Interesting. He writes poetry and wears vintage button-down shirts and paints his own Converse. Dean feels like he himself is what would happen if you made the midwest a person: flannel, leather, ripped jeans, work boots, none of it to be aesthetic. This is just what he looks like.
He runs a hand through his hair nervously, takes a sip of his drink.
“Come here often?” Cas asks after a moment. The hallway is dark, the music audible even though they aren’t in the main room.
“Ha.” Dean swirls his jungle juice. “Charlie--I’ve told you about her, I think--she dragged me here. Pretty sure she’s making out with her girlfriend on a couch as we speak.”
“She threw you to the wolves?”
“A little.” Dean smiles ruefully. “I’m usually reading mystery novels on the weekends and she told me I was boring.” “That’s funny.” Cas smiles with just his eyes. “I would say you’re anything but boring.”
Dean shrugs. He’s glad for the dim lighting because he just knows his face is getting redder the longer this conversation goes on. He fidgets with the cuff of his flannel with the hand not holding his drink and stares off into space.
“Hey Dean?” Cas says suddenly.
“Hm?”
“Do you like me?” Cas tilts his head slightly, like he always does.
“What?” Dean sets his cup on the windowsill next to him. “Do I--what?”
“Just wondering. It’s alright if you don’t.”
Dean furrows his brow. “Do you...like me?” God, this feels like he’s in eighth grade again, crushing on the guy that would always let him borrow a pen in science class.
Cas considers for a moment. “Definitely.”
Dean’s eyes widen. “Oh.”
Cas somehow tilts his head further. “Well?”
“Uh, yes. I, uh--” Dean fumbles, but he can’t take his eyes off Cas, who knocks back the rest of his beer and sets the bottle on the floor before stepping into Dean’s personal space.
“Can I kiss you?” Cas is smiling.
“Please.”
At first, it’s gentle--just a tentative press of lips, Dean can feel the upward curve of Cas’ lips. Then it turns into something a little heavier as Dean’s brain gets back online and he remembers that he has hands, and that’s Cas’ tongue, tentatively exploring, and then not-so-tentatively exploring, and Dean’s pretty sure he might explode.
Eventually they part--Cas has backed Dean against the nearest wall, and Dean has his hands on Cas’ hips, pulling them together, and then Cas leans his forehead against Dean’s.
“Hey Dean?”
“Mmm-hmm?” “Do you think I could get your phone number?”

"Then, not even a day after Jason packed up and moved out, Christy was mugged in an alleyway a town over."
"She wasn't hurt?" you ask and take a sip of your iced tea that Dean brought over to you, demanding that you drink something to stay hydrated.
"Nope," Jenny, a red-haired girl who introduced herself to you first, tells you. "Christy walked away with a few scrapes but said that the guy who mugged her whispered to her that it was punishment for putting up with her husband for so long."
"And how did he know?"
"No idea," Jenny shrugs. "But, Christy didn't question it even though I still find it a bit creepy."
"Has Christy spoke anymore about the incident?"
"No," Alicia, the blonde one,  tells you as she leans over a bit so that she's able to whisper to you. "We've been good friends since kindergarten and honestly, it's like she never even knew the guy now."
"Weird," you frown. "So she plays it off as he just walked out on her?"
"Yeah," Alicia shrugs. "Why shouldn't she? I mean, that's obviously what he did to her."
"Oh yeah," you nod and take a deep breath. These people don't know that the guy's probably dead, you tell yourself.
"She's filed for divorce," Alicia tells you. "Put all the papers in the mailbox to mail them to his parents' house, went to the store, and when she walked up on her front porch there were the papers laying in front of the door with his name on them."
You have to bite your cheek to keep from laughing. Are these people honestly buying these stories? Do they not understand how ridiculous they sound?
"So she mailed out divorce papers and they got to Jason and he signed them all in the same day?"
"I know it sounds crazy," Jenny tells you. "But it's not the first time that it's happened around here."
"Yeah, I know," you sigh. "My husband and I were debating on whether or not we should buy here."
"Well, I don't think that you have to worry about that because you and him seem to have the perfect relationship," the dark haired one tells you as she motions over towards Dean. What is her name? You know that she introduced herself and yet you just can't seem to remember it.
"Yeah," you sigh. "It might seem that way but you know, nothing's ever perfect."
"Huh-oh," Jenny says. Perfect. You got the gossip's attention. "What do you mean?"
"Well," you sigh as you glance over at Dean as if you're seeing if he's walking your way. "This may be nothing, but Dean's been acting a little odd lately and in the three years that we've been married he's never treated me like this."
"Like what?" the dark haired one asks. Gosh, what is her name?
"Well, he'll tell me that he gets off at five but some days it will be almost the next day before he walks through the front door." Three sets of eyes widen.
"Do you still love him?" Alicia asks you.
"Of course I do," you tell her truthfully. You do love Dean. That part ain't a lie.
"Well, I'm sure that he's probably just been going out to a bar or something. You know how guys are when they're drinking. He probably doesn't mean anything by it."
"Still," you sigh as fake tears well up in your eyes. "It would be nice if he'd let me know."
"Sweetheart." You bring your head up and smile a bit as Dean kneels down in front of you. "You're looking a bit tired. What do you say you and I go rest, alright?" You nod and wave at the other three women sitting around the table. Dean gives them a friendly smile and he nods his head a bit at them. "Ladies," Dean says as he stands up and pulls you along with him. Dean wraps an arm around your waist and you can hear the other three whispering as you both walk away. "You alright?" Dean asks you softly. "You looked like you were about to cry or something."
"I'm fine, babe," you tell Dean as you give him a soft smile. "Playing my part is all."
"Ah, I see," Dean chuckles as you walk around to the front of the house and start walking down the sidewalk. "So what all did you tell them about me?"
"That you stay out later then what you tell me you're going to," you tell him. "Nothing too serious. They think that you're probably going out to bars at night. Why? What all did you tell the guys about me?"
Dean smiles. "Well, I told them how amazing and perfect my beautiful wife is."
"Whatever," you giggle.
"I seriously did," Dean chuckles. "In all of the stories that I heard while talking to them, the wife was always important to the husband even if he was being unfaithful to her or whatever."
You take a deep breath. "Find out anything that you want to share?" you ask him.
"Actually, yeah," Dean says. "So I found out that the wife always had some kind of accident..."
"Within twenty-four hours of the husband packing up and leaving her."
"Exactly," Dean says. "So?"
"So what?" you giggle.
"So did my absolutely adorable wife find out anything interesting?"
"You're ridiculous," you laugh.
"I know," Dean chuckles as he pulls you in and presses a kiss to the side of your head. "Seriously though, anything that I ought to know that might help us with this case?"
You swallow hard and look Dean in the eyes. "Nope," you breathe out even though you know that that's not true. "Nothing at all."
"Alright," Dean sighs.
Your heart breaks knowing that you're lying to Dean. You actually did find out something that might help. You know what made the wives that were left alone different from the ones who were injured. You know and yet you just can't tell Dean because you don't want your theory about what's happening to you to be true.
"Babe?" you move your head to look at Dean and you see a worried expression on his face. "You alright? You zoned out on me."
"Yeah, I'm fine," you smile. "Just thinking about what our next move is."
"Well," Dean sighs. "I think that we should maybe check out Irene's house."
"No, Jenny's."
Dean gives you a look. "Sweetheart, I know that you don't want to believe that that little old sweet lady could be a witch..."
"Trust me, Dean, Irene wasn't the one who was asking all of the personal questions," you tell him. "I think that it's Jenny."
"Well, I know how we can flush her out and find out which one of us is right," Dean tells you.
"How's that?" you ask him.
"I act as bait."
"Dean, no!"
"Hey," Dean tells you softly as he stops walking and turns to that he can gently grab onto your shoulders with both of his hands. "Sweetheart, I'll be fine."
"Not if you die you won't be because I'll kill you."
"Honey," Dean frowns. "I don't think that the guys are dead."
"What do you mean?" you ask him as tears well up in your eyes at the thought of Dean getting hurt.
"I think that she's hiding them somewhere."
"Why?"
Dean shrugs. "Why do witches do anything that they do?"
You laugh a bit as Dean leads you up onto your front porch. You love seeing the happiness in Dean's eyes. You don't know if it's this case or maybe even you but you know there's definitely something that has Dean so giddy.
"Man, I'm stuffed," Dean groans as he heads straight over to the couch and plops down. You laugh as you follow Dean across the living room, but you get halfway there before another dizzy spell hits you.
"Dean," you get out right before you're brought down to your knees.
"Sweetheart?" Dean asks as he turns around so that he can see you. Dean's eye widen when he sees what's wrong and he jumps up to his feet. "Sweetheart, you alright?"
"Yeah," you breathe out as you squeeze your eyes shut tight. "Room's spinning."
"Gosh, I wish that we could have figured out what was happening with those other women," Dean says. "Right now the only thing that I care about is knowing that you're alright."
"I'm fine, Dean," you tell him as you try and straighten up a bit. Dean keeps his hands on you and you smile softly at him. "Honestly, honey. I'm alright."
"I know," Dean sighs as he gently helps you up off of the floor. Dean makes you lean on him as he walks you over towards the couch. If you try and straighten up then Dean just pulls you over towards him. "Maybe I shouldn't play bait," Dean sighs as you slowly sit down onto the couch.
"Good," you mutter as your eyes side shut.
"I don't think that you need to be here by yourself."
"Dean, I'll be fine if you think that this is how we're gonna do this," you tell him softly. "I'm not happy with you playing bait ,but if that's what we have to do then I guess it's what we have to do."
Dean sighs and he drops his head  a bit. "Maybe I can call Sam to see if he'd be able to..."
"I do not need a babysitter here with me," you scowl.
"Sweetheart, you're barely able to stand up right now," Dean tells you softly.
"I'll be alright," you tell him softly. Dean pouts, causing you to playfully roll your eyes a bit at him. "Pitiful."
"I love you," Dean tells you softly.
"I love you too, Dean," you breathe out. "Which is why I don't want you to do this but like I said, we have to to flush out this witch."
"Yeah," Dean sighs. "Tell you what. If you need help you call Sam."
"Okay," you say and you nod your head a bit at him. "If you think that you'll need help you call me and then I'll call Sam."
"Got it," Dean nods. "But I won't need help. If I just let that witch take me then I can find where she's been keeping these guys."
"Dean?"
"Yeah?"
"Just please be careful."
"I will, sweetheart," Dean whispers as he leans in to give you a sweet kiss. "I love you so much."
"I love you too, baby," you tell Dean softly.
"I'll be at that bar right around the corner," Dean tells you.
"Alright," you sigh. "But you'd better not be getting drunk or flirting with the other girls."
"No promises," Dean chuckles but he grunts when you slap him in the chest.
"Behave," you laugh.
"I will, sweetheart," Dean smiles as he leans over to give you another kiss. "Text me if any neighbors show up here because I'm sure if Irene notices that I'm not here, she'll stop by asking you a bunch of questions."
"You mean Jenny?" you giggle.
"Troublemaker," Dean chuckles as he stands up off the floor. "Remember to call Sam if you have to."
"I will," you say and you nod your head a bit at Dean. "Go have some fake fun without me."
"Will do, sweetheart," Dean chuckles before he walks on over towards the front door. Dean throws a wink at you over his shoulder before walking on out and you let a tear slip when the door shuts. You know what's going on. You just can't tell Dean. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You're almost asleep when you hear the doorbell ring. Sighing, you stand up off of the couch and you try not to let your disappointment show when you find Irene standing there on your front porch.
"Can I help you?" you ask her.
"Oh, I was just stopping by to see if you're feeling any better," Irene tells you. "I knew that you still weren't feeling well at the picnic."
"Yeah, I'm fine," you tell her softly as you give her a friendly smile.
"So," Irene says as her eyes skim around the living room. "Where's that husband of yours? He's taking care of you, isn't he?"
"Well, he's supposed to be," you sigh and you try to fall into the role of the upset wife. "Dean went out to try to find some medicine for me."
"Well, that's understandable," she nods.
"Three hours ago," you say and Irene's eyes widen a bit at you. "I'm trying not to worry about him though. I mean, moving into a new neighborhood is a big deal. If he needs to have some fun to ease his nerves a bit then so be it."
"And it doesn't bother you that your husband is out doing who knows what with who knows who?"
"Oh, it bothers me," you tell her softly. "But what am I supposed to do about it? I mean, maybe I am just being paranoid but there's the risk of making him upset with me if I ask Dean about it. And, even if he is doing something that he shouldn't be, I still love him. I always will and I couldn't possibly let Dean walk out of my life."
"Well, then," Irene frowns. "If you need me you know where to find me."
"Thanks so much," you smile as you shut the door on her. When you hear Irene walking down off of the porch, you pull your phone out of your pocket and dial Dean's number.
"Hey, everything alright, sweetheart?" Dean asks as he answers the phone.
"Yeah, everything's fine," you sigh. "Except I owe you the biggest apology ever."
"Why?" Dean chuckles.
"Because sweet little Irene just showed up at our front door asking me questions about where you went and didn't it bother me that you were out doing things that I didn't know about."
"Uh, well, I would gloat but I think that we were both wrong about this one, sweetheart."
"Why do you think that?" you ask him.
"You remember that dark headed girl that was sitting with you three at the table?" Dean asks you.
"Yeah," you reply. "I can't think of her name though."
"Well, she's here," Dean tells you in a hushed voice.
"So you think that she might be the witch?" you ask him.
"I don't know," Dean says. "She's walking out though. I'll follow her."
"Please don't get arrested," you groan and Dean chuckles.
"I'll try not to, sweetheart," he tells you. "I think that I just heard the people this girl was speaking to call her Beth."
"Beth," you frown. "Why does that name sound so familiar?"
"I don't know," Dean says. "But she's walking out right now and she is making a right turn onto the sidewalk."
"Beth. Beth," you keep saying her name over and over hoping that it will spark something. "Oh my gosh. Dean stop following that girl!" you yell into the phone.
"Why?" Dean flinches as he pulls the phone away from his ringing ear.
"Because she's the first victim," you tell him. "Her and her husband were the first targets of the witch so that monster is still out there. Stop following her and get your butt somewhere..."
A loud smack echoes through the phone right before the call is dropped. Your heart starts pounding as you grip tightly onto your phone.
"Dean?" you say but you know that Dean is not able to answer.

Kinktober 2020
Tumblr media
Tonight is the night. Tonight, you are going to admit your feelings to Dean, the alpha you fell in love with almost three years ago.
Lisa, your best friend, helped you decide on a yellow sundress and matching heels. Usually, you don’t wear heels or make-up outside of business meetings and weddings but tonight is special to you.
Your heart thunders in your chest, your lip twitches nervously and you tug at the seam of your dress, waiting for your friend to show.
“Y/N,” Sam smiles at you, already wrapping his arms around you to hug you tightly. “Why are you outside? Lisa and the others are inside, waiting.”
“What?” Dumbfounded you gape at Sam. “Lisa said I shall wait for her, outside.” You shuffle on your feet, wondering why your friend didn’t wait for you.
“She’s here for three or four hours,” Ruby sighs, tugging at Sam’s wrist. “What?”
“Sam,” Ruby grits her teeth, knowing you don’t want to hear what your friend did. “Didn’t I tell you to shut your mouth before you say something dumb?”
“Dumb? I…I…,” Sam’s eyes widen when he drinks your outfit in. You never wear make-up or dresses. “Oh-shit, no…”
Before Sam can react you walk into Dean’s bar, the bunker, to give him your birthday present. Your heart still races when you step further into the bar.
“Y/N, hey-erm,” your heart drops, just like the bottle of whiskey in your hands when you must watch your best friend greedily kiss the man you love with all your heart. Her arms around his neck, her tongue down his throat Lisa purrs against his lips. “I’m so sorry…” Jo places one hand onto your shoulder but you jerk it off.
“I’m…yeah-I think I’ll leave and never come back,” you turn on your heels. You are half-way out of the bar before Ruby can call your name.
“Fucking great,” Jo mutters, looking at the now ruined expensive whiskey. “She wanted to tell him today. I heard her talking to Lisa, her friend,” Jo spats the last word. “Did you know?”
“I had no clue, Jo,” Sam stammers, watching his brother shove Lisa off him. “I don’t think she’ll ever come back."I believed Dean finally found his omega,” Ruby runs one hand over Sam’s back to calm the angry alpha. “My brother deserves happiness and here he stands, kissing the wrong omega – again.”
“It wasn’t Dean’s fault, Sam. As far as I can tell, Lisa was all over him for hours. When I left for a moment she pounced on him and kissed Dean,” Jo says. “I should clean the mess.”
“Sammy, Ruby! Finally, you are here,” Dean grumbles, making a beeline around Lisa to avoid getting too close to the clingy omega. “Who dropped a bottle?”
“Well, uh-you see,” Jo shakes her head, pointing at the lipstick on Dean’s lips. “Y/N didn’t feel well, and the bottle slipped out of her hands. She says happy birthday but had to go.”
Sam lies, Dean knew he does the moment his brother opens his mouth. Dean just wonders why his brother would lie about you being sick. “Why didn’t she say hi?”
“I don’t know, Dean. Maybe as her best friend had her tongue down your throat and Y/N believed you don’t want her to disturb the intimate moment,” Ruby storms toward the bar to pour herself a drink. “Fucking idiots. Alphas are so blind…”
“What’s wrong?” Lisa coos, a grin on her red lips. “Where’s my friend? Did Y/N not make it to the bar?”
“She came. Saw her best friend and left for good. If your plan was to ruin your friendship – well done, Lisa,” Jo joins Ruby at the bar, sighing deeply. “I believed she will finally found a nice guy.”
“Y/N, she deserves better than Lisa or Dean,” Ruby slams her now empty glass onto the counter. “Alphas are assholes. Believe me, Sam is the acceptation.”
Dean chuckles at his brother’s girlfriend’s words but he can’t shake the feeling off that you left as there is more than a cold bugging you. “Maybe I should call Y/N and ask her how she’s doing?”
“I can do so,” Lisa smiles sweetly but Ruby groans, throwing a napkin at your friend. “Wait a minute. I’ll go outside, Deano. Y/N doesn’t like it when too many people listen to our conversations.”
“I can imagine,” Ruby spats, now aiming her glass at Lisa’s head. “If not for Dean’s birthday…” the omega slurs. “I should’ve killed ya, bitch.”
Tumblr media
“Don’t act like a toddler, Y/N,” Lisa laughs, pressing her phone closer to her ear to hear every sob leaving your lips. “Did you honestly believe an alpha like Dean would be interested in you? I did you a favor by seducing him. He’s too rough and demanding for a shy little girl. Look for that nice guy. Maybe a beta would match your personality.”
Dean feels like he’s frozen to the spot. He wants to say something, but his lips won’t move. “Y/N, darling,” Lisa smirks, chuckling when she hears you started to cry. “I’m sorry to tell you but you wouldn’t be able to take his knot or know how to satisfy a man like Dean. Stop crying and face reality. You never were meant to be.”
On the other end of town, you drop the phone, hiding your face in the palms of your hands while Lisa keeps on talking. She told you that Dean barely knows you and that if you come to the bar always stands far away to not catch your scent.”
“Good thing I saved you from making a move. Dean would’ve laughed about you, Y/N. Cry a little, eat ice cream and stop bugging me with your love life,” Lisa ends the call. When she enters the bar again, Dean is long gone…
Tumblr media
“Sammy, where does Y/N live?” Dean pants, running toward his car. “I need to know her address. I…I’m already on my way.”
“I don’t think it’s a good idea to show up at her home, Dean. Y/N is hurt and vulnerable now. Give her a few days to calm,” Sam grunts when Ruby takes the phone out of his hands.
“Listen and listen carefully, Winchester. If you do not intend on making Y/N yours stay away from her or I’ll cut your cock off,” Ruby smirks, patting her alpha’s chest. “Good, you better do so.” Sam furrows his brows at his omega’s words. “If you lied and don’t want to claim her, I’ll kill you.”
“Give me the phone, Ruby,” Jo smirks, running off with Sam’s phone. “She lives…” After giving Dean your address, Jo warns the alpha too. “You better not hurt our girl. Tell her Ruby and I said hi.”
“Give me back my phone, Jo!” Sam snarls. He holds out his hand, a frown on his face. “You all should stay out of other people’s love life.”
“If we would’ve done so, Samuel, you and Ruby would still dance around each other,” Jo giggles at Sam’s pissed expression. “Now shut up and let Rubes and me enjoy we are great matchmakers.”
Tumblr media
“Thank you,” Dean smiles, giving your landlord, an elder lady, a wink. “My omega forgot to leave me a key. I was on a business trip and you know, I missed my mate,” your landlord giggles, even slaps Dean’s chest.
“You are a bad boy, Mr. Winchester,” she snickers. “No noise complaints, young man. I know young love is passionate, but I don’t want to come up here again.”
“I promise we’ll be as silent as possible,” keys in his hands Dean turns his attention back toward your door. “We will not cause any trouble.”
“Goodnight, Mr. Winchester,” Dean opens your door, hastily stepping inside. “I hope you’ll keep your word.”
Tumblr media
“Y/N? Sweetheart?” Low wails catch Dean’s attention. His heart drops seeing you curled into a ball on your bed. “Omega?”
You don’t lift your head when Dean enters your bedroom. “I was worried, Y/N. Why did you just leave? I wanted to see you tonight, but you were gone.” Dean knows why you left but he wants to hear the words leave your lips.
“Go back to your friends and Lisa,” you whimper. Hiding your face in your pillow you try to suppress the sobs leaving your lips. “I’m no one to you and I got nothing to offer. You’re at the wrong girl's place.”
“Listen,” Dean shrugs his jacket off, eying your trembling form warily. “If you don’t stop, you’re going to get sick.”
“Why should you care? I’m only a girl who used to come to your bar. Lisa was the one dragging me to the bunker every weekend. Just go back to your girlfriend,” your voice cracks and you need to gather all your strength to not shake when Dean kicks his shoes off.
“I can scent your desperation, omega. You need to stop,” the alpha tries again but your mind won’t stop spinning around the image Lisa burned into your memory. “Y/N, please.”
You don’t look at Dean, nor do you say another word when breathing becomes difficult. “I…I don’t want you here. Get out,” you choke out, fisting your blanket. “Go…”
“No way, sweetheart,” Dean lifts your blanket to join you on your bed. He scoots closer to wrap his arms around your now trembling body. “Relax. I’m here and won’t go away, Y/N.” He whispers against your mating gland. “Tell me why you ran away.”
“Lisa said she’ll help me talk to the alpha I like,” you mumble. Sobs leave your lips remembering how she encouraged you to admit your feelings to Dean. “I bought a dress and wore make-up only for you.”
“I bet you looked pretty,” Dean hums against your skin, kissing your mating gland. “You always look pretty, though.”
“I waited outside for Lisa to show. When I entered the bar you were kissing Lisa and I knew, I don’t stand a chance. I’m sorry for believing I have something to offer to an alpha like you,” you sniffle, ashamed you acted like a love-sick teen.
“It wasn’t me kissing Lisa, and, I didn't kiss her back. She pounced on me, pressed her lips to mine and I was too shocked to react. I pushed her away the moment you dropped the bottle of whiskey,” His warm chest against your skin Dean closes his eyes.
“You should go back to her,” you whisper again but Dean won’t budge. “Go home, Dean. I’m fine, really. It’s not the first time I feel rejection. It just gets harder with every passing year.”
“Sweetheart,” the alpha huffs, pressing his erection into your ass. “Does this feel like rejection to you? I’m always aroused close to you. I don’t want Lisa, never wanted her, Y/N. I want you. I love the way you lean against the old jukebox to dance to silly songs. I like how you giggle when you find something funny and, I like how you look at me.”
“You saw me watching you,” whining you hide your face in the palms of your hands. “I’m sorry, alpha.”
“Say that again,” Dean husks, grinding into your ass. “Please…”
“Sorry?”
“No…my presentation. Call me alpha again, baby. Please call me your alpha again,” you shiver as Dean’s lips travel along your neck. “Please, sweetheart.”
“Alpha?”
“Again.”
“You’re my alpha, Dean.”
“Again.” He bites your neck playfully, rutting into you now. “Again.”
“You are my alpha, Dean.”
“Yes, I’m your alpha,” he growls, hand slipping into your panties. “No one can touch you. No one will hold you like this. No one will even dare to look at my omega.”
“I’m yours, Dean,” you cry out, head lolling back the moment Dean slips two fingers into your slick entrance. “Only yours.”
“Only mine,” voice hoarse Dean rubs his erection against your ass, hoping for any kind of friction. “Gonna knot this tight little cunt. You’re my birthday gift.”
Tumblr media
You’re dizzy from his scent, his lips against your throat, and the way his cock drives wildly into you.
“You’re mine, always were meant to be mine,” Dean growls, hands gripping your thighs to spread you wider. “I’m gonna knot you good, ‘mega.” Unlike other alphas, Dean wants to see your face, wants to watch you fall apart underneath him.
“Dean,” your blunt nails dig into his back, leave angry red lines on their way down to his ass. “I’m so close, alpha,” your hands grip his ass, and Dean smirks at your boldness.
“I knew you’re my dirty girl,” he muses, bumping his nose against yours. “Love how you feel, Y/N.” Grunts leave the alpha’s lips when you start to meet his thrusts. “Love you.”
“Oh-god,” his teeth sink into your mating gland and you come right there and then, digging your nails deep into Dean’s flesh. You start to tremble, cry out profanities as he won’t let up until his knot starts to form at the base of his cock.
“Mine,” he purrs against the mark he left, licking the little wound eagerly. His cum fills your belly, making it bulge. “My omega,” Dean whines against you, body shuddering through his orgasm.
“That was,” you giggle, hiding your face in Dean’s shoulder when he wraps his arms around you. “I liked it, a lot.”
“Your first knot is always the best – especially if it’s mine,” Dean lifts his head, a grin on his lips. “You know, mine is the last you’ll get.”
“I know,” you husk the words against Dean’s lips, breathing ‘alpha’. “I don’t want any other alpha. I only want you, Dean.”
“Never say you’ve got nothing to offer,” he whispers. “You’ve got a beautiful smile, a strong will, the softest voice, a pussy to die for.” You slap the back of his head at the word ‘pussy’. “Ouch, it’s true. I like it a lot…”
Tumblr media
Lisa lazily leans against the counter, watching Dean stroll back into the bar. His hair is still damp from the shower you shared. His lips kiss-swollen and to Lisa’s disappointment Dean’s fingers are interlaced with yours.
“Dean, where have you…” Sam smirks when his eyes drop to the fresh claiming mark at your neck. “I see you didn’t waste a minute.”
“I got my girl,” Dean purrs. He wraps one arm around your waist to lead you toward his favorite table. “Jo, the next rounds are on me. Everyone drinks for free tonight, except for Lisa.”
“What?” Lisa looks up at Dean, whimpering as the alpha steps closer. “I…I”
“You are not welcome here anymore. Leave my bar, forget you ever met Y/N and don’t you dare to ever call my girl. Out,” Dean jerks his head toward the door.
“Swing your ass out of our bar,” Ruby slams her glass onto the table, ready to attack Lisa. “I dare you to wait any longer.”
Lisa’s eyes land on your claiming mark when you try to calm your alpha. “She’ll never satisfy your needs, Dean.”
“Firstly, I give a shit on your opinion and,” Dean smirks, running his hand over your belly, “she already took my knot. I can tell, she’ll be round with my pups soon. I’ll have her every day and night. Now out.”
“Out…out…out,” Jo singsongs, slamming a baseball bat onto the table. “Last chance or my lovely skull tamer will hit your ugly face…”
Whilst Lisa runs for the hills, your alpha slings his arm back around your waist, leading you toward the table Jo prepared.
“Happy birthday to me. Tonight, you made me the happiest alpha.”
“Happy birthday, Dean.”

Chase pushed himself up and shook his head. He was more used to being swept up in a giant hand, but toppling over a few times had winded him. He frowned over the edge of the hand, then over at Sam. “What?”
Jacob’s other hand lifted to be level with them. Minnie was clinging to his thumb and scanning the flock of sheep warily. They were all still milling around, keeping a tight group, several of them aiming disdainful baaas up in the air. Dean’s defiant stand over their heads certainly had not gone unnoticed. Minnie had never seen sheep act like that, certainly not in the shadow of a giant. “Sam?”
"Th-the sheep!" Sam gestured in the direction of the hostile flock. "We're chasing skinwalkers, not werewolves! They can be any type of animal, so long as it's what the pack started out as!"
The confusion on Dean's face cleared. "So you're saying this flock is the people we've been chasing the whole time?"
Sam nodded at the silver knife in Dean's hand. "One way to find out for sure."
Jacob frowned pensively. Even after hearing about how dangerous the skinwalkers were, he could hardly imagine the flock of fluffy sheep before him causing much trouble. Mostly they milled around among each other, all keeping tabs on Dean with his glimmering knife. It was weird that they didn't even want to run from Jacob, but he hadn't made any moves against them.
Even Chase and Minnie had been mostly spared. Chase had only fallen over because he kept trying to pull Dean up.
Jacob decided to throw in his two cents. "I mean, they're… they're not really doing anything," he pointed out.
"Except yelling at us," Chase agreed, waving a hand at a ram that bleated insistently up at him.
"Wait," Minnie chimed in, her brow pinching with confusion. "Do they understand what we're saying when they're in their whatever-form?"
Sam circled a hand through the air aimlessly, trying to gather his thoughts and what he knew of their current enemies. "Skinwalkers aren't like werewolves, who give in to their more... animalistic side when they transform. They maintain their regular consciousness and memory. The main danger is that they can transfer their ability with a bite, increasing the size of their pack... or flock." Sam gave the flock of sheep a strange look. He'd never encountered supernatural creatures in the guise of herbivores like the sheep. This case was shaping up to be unique in more ways than one.
"That means," Sam continued, "they know just who we are, and anything we said while we were here. Which is why they were so quick to lunge at me and Dean. They already found us once on the ship, when they were in their human forms. We couldn't stay under cover, and ended up tossed overboard."
Minnie frowned critically over the side of Jacob’s hand, even as the giant lifted everyone slightly higher. If those sheep really were skinwalkers, and at this point they certainly weren’t acting like normal sheep, they’d just let the group wander among them. She’d patted their heads and tried to click at them like she did with her lambs back home and everything. The feeling that wormed into her gut was something like betrayal.
“So these guys might be the reason I found you floundering out in the waves,” Jacob echoed, a disapproving frown on his face.
“Well what do they--” Chase began, asking Sam first before looking over the side of the hand at the nearest sheep bleating up at them. “What do you want in Lilliput then?!”
For a long moment, it appeared as though Chase's demand would go unanswered. The sheep milled restlessly around, giving Jacob's feet a wide berth as they bleated.
Then, the ram that had given Dean a runaround when he was on the ground stepped out into an opening that formed in the flock. It cocked its head, fixing one eye on the hand that held Chase, Minnie, Sam and Dean. Its expression was impossible to read as it looked them over, one by one.
There was a shift, and then the ram's horns appeared to melt away. Several cracks could be heard as its back shifted to an upright position, and the hooves split into four fingers and a thumb.
After less than ten seconds from when the shift started, the ram stood there as a regal and distinguished looking man, dressed in a simple white shirt and dark pants. He frowned at the people in Jacob's hand, then up at the giant himself.
"As I recall," the man said, "you were the ones to smuggle onto our ship when we had done nothing to you in turn, stinking of silver and gunpowder."
Seeing the transformation had been more than enough to leave Jacob, Minnie, and even Chase speechless for a hesitant moment. Jacob’s mouth opened slightly, as amazed as he’d been the first time he met Chase. He had never really thought about tiny people existing anywhere before. He definitely hadn’t imagined them having the ability to turn into tiny sheep. “Uh. Wh… what,” he muttered.
“I mean. I guess that’s technically true,” Chase finally admitted, sending an uncomfortable sideways glance at Sam and Dean. He frowned down at the apparent leader of a flock of sheep skinwalkers. “So … are skinwalkers usually dangerous, or not? ‘Cause I feel like that would clear up a lot, knowing what you actually plan to do in Lilliput, right?”
The man’s lip curled in disgust. “Oh, please,” he said disparagingly. “Unlike our more… wolf-ish cousins, we have no interest in anyone’s hearts.”
Next to him, a second sheep transformed back. This one was shorter, and he had very mousy features in comparison to the ram’s dignified look. “But we like Romaine hearts,” he stuttered out insistently. “Right? Right?!”
“Please, Jerimiah,” the ram said. “This situation is delicate enough without your help.” He turned to look up at the Lilliputians and Blefuscians held in the giant’s hand. “Haven’t you ever heard ‘The grass is greener on the other side?’ We are here in search of better pastures. Nothing more.”
Chase’s mouth opened in a delighted grin over the bad pun. Before he could try to chime in with his own, Minnie slapped his arm with the back of her hand. In her opinion, she had enough to deal with without her brother adding to the pile. She’d thought this was a poor lost flock of sheep. Not an intentional group of … magic shapeshifting squatters. “So are Sam and Dean the only ones you hurt, or …?”
Jacob heaved a slow sigh. Minnie had a point. If they had left behind more than just Sam and Dean, it would be dangerous having the shapeshifters around Lilliput too. “Yeah, I mean. I’m pretty sure I can outrun you guys, but what’s to stop you from sneaking along later and trying something again? Are Chase and Minnie here in danger because they know your secret?”
The ram’s mouth twisted in annoyance. “All we want is green fields and calm waters,” he explained. “Any Blefuscans that we ran into, we ran off, nothing more. These… hunters that followed us were the most persistent, and I couldn’t risk the safety of my flock. Throwing them off the ship was only done as a last resort.”
Looking over the rest of the flock, and a brief glance at the twitchy Jerimiah, the ram shook his head in doubt. “Perhaps it was merely a pipe dream to find a place free of warmongering, but we had to try.”
“So…” Sam tentatively leaned forward. “Your main plan is to get as far from civilization, and stay there?”
“Sammy…” Dean started, but was ignored.
The ram nodded. “It seemed like a more likely situation to find in Lilliput compared to Blefuscu. Such an idyllic land…” He turned to Chase and Minnie. “No one here is at risk from my flock, I give you my word. Even if we get sent back to Blefuscu.” The last statement was said with a sideways glance at Dean.
The guy seemed genuine enough. Having lived in Lilliput for a bit, Jacob knew the locals to be fussy but harmless. They would likely be too caught up in their own drama to notice an extra flock of sheep up past the hills, especially since no one really wandered this far anyway. He decided that he believed the stern little guy.
It wasn't really up to him, though. He lowered his hands a bit, not enough to put his passengers at risk but at least to bring them more level with the ram. "Whatcha think, Chase? Minnie?"
"It's weird," Chase said, practically bursting for an opening to speak up. "Sheep-people .... sheepshifters!"
Minnie smacked his arm. "How is that helping?" she scolded, before addressing the ram again. "I don't think anyone uses these pastures so you won't get anyone upset. But will you even be safe out here? From wolves and things, I mean?"
The ram looked down his nose at her. “Wolves have been our problem since the start,” he said with a sharp look sent in Dean’s direction. “We haven’t been able to shake them yet.”
Sam stepped between Dean and the ram with an arm to separate them, before thoughtless words could be thrown. “If we leave you be, does this mean you’ll leave the Lilliputians alone?” he asked, trying to keep the focus. “We’re only here to deal with threats.”
The ram sighed. “We won’t bother a soul, you have my word. So long as we have our pastures.”
Sam put his arm down. “I think our job’s done then,” he said. “They’ll just need a safe place to call home now.”
“This works,” Chase agreed, gesturing at the current pasture. Aside from Jacob looming over the field with several people standing on his hands, it was a simple, idyllic view. The area was lush, if a bit wild, and unbothered by Lilliput or Blefuscu. “We even have Jacob here to come check on you sometimes if you need anything.”
Jacob rolled his eyes at being volunteered so easily. It was his lot in life anymore, to have Chase suggest him for any task that needed doing. “I have a pretty easy time getting over here,” he agreed anyway. “If you need supplies.”
Minnie glanced over at Sam and Dean. Sam seemed mollified, though Dean looked as ready for a fight as ever. Looking back at the sheep, she gave them an exaggerated shrug. “Looks like everyone’s okay, so … it all worked out? This time?”
The ram gave Minnie a stiff half-bow, looking uncomfortable with the unfamiliar gesture. “We will hold up our end of the bargain,” he promised.
With a quick shift, the man again turned into a ram. Large, curving horns came out of his forehead first before he fell forward onto a new set of hooves. By the time he hit the ground, he could have blended in with any herd of sheep and proceeded to walk amongst the others. Jerimiah followed suit next. Then, a slowly stirring wave expanded throughout the herd until they were all heading in the same ambling direction.
Sam sighed, blowing out his bangs. “Case closed.”
“Weirdest case ever,” Dean complained. “Almost as weird as running into the actual giant in the lands.” He sent Jacob a side-eye. “Maybe next time we’re in Lilliput, we can enlist some extra help again?” Despite his usual gruff tone of voice, the interest in having a giant helper shone right through.
Chase drew himself up proudly, though he still stood notably shorter than either brother. “We’re totally ready to kick some ass, anytime we’re needed.”
Minnie rolled her eyes. “Preeeetty sure they were asking for Jacob,” she pointed out, nudging Chase with an elbow.
“Hey! I helped!”
Jacob smirked. He’d gotten somewhat used to the surly attitude from Dean. It seemed the little folk over in Blefuscu could be just as excitable as the Lilliputians he’d come to know. Chase and Minnie’s antics were practically a given. “I’m basically a glorified taxi,” he warned. “But I’ll be here.”

My Demon King
Based on this request:  You said you’d like some SPN requests? If so how about a Crowley x reader the reader being the youngest Wichester and even though she is a tough hunter she has a weakspot for the Demon. Though, thinks his flirtation is just a facade and he’s not interested in her. When a solo hunt goes wrong and the Wichester plus Castiel try to find the reader they are met with a really worried King of Hell who helps them. At this point Dean decided that he’d be okay with the two dating because Crowley was as worried as they were.
Here you are! It’s been so long since I’ve written our beautiful King of Hell! SPN Characters are NOT mine! The belong to the writers/creators of the show!
Warnings: A little angst, mentions of injuries and hospitals. Fluff! Protective big brothers.
Pairings: Crowley x fem!Winchester reader
Tumblr media
You playfully rolled your eyes and shook your head at Crowley as he flirted. This was your normal. How silly is that? Your normal is sitting there listening to the King of Hell flirt with you. It was an act, sure. He was probably just trying to get information. But he was charming and could be really sweet. Deep, deep down. You knew the demon didn't care for you the way you had come to care for him, but you had a nice thing going.
In truth, you really liked Crowley. Your brothers may have hated him and been loath to work with him sometimes, but you didn't. You weren't sure how it happened, but Crowley had taken up a space in your life that felt empty when he wasn't around. Somehow, he'd managed to win your heart, piece by piece.
Your conversation with Crowley was interrupted by Sam, who came into the room with his laptop in hand. "Y/N? Think you can handle a simple hunt by yourself? There's an easy salt-n-burn in Colorado." You nodded and stood. "Sure. See you around, Crowley," you told him, giving his arm a squeeze as you passed by. You missed how Crowley's eyes watched you leave.
"Whatever you're thinking, stop," Dean warned with a growl. Crowley swung his hazel eyes over to the eldest Winchester. "You're sending her alone?" Sam shrugged and told him that you went alone on easy hunts all the time. "Y/N knows what she's doing. She'll be fine. And if she isn't, she'll call." For some reason, Crowley didn't look appeased, which both infuriated and intrigued Sam and Dean. Sam shook his head and left the room while Dean stayed behind to study Crowley a moment longer. Crowley could see Dean putting the pieces together and made an excuse to get out of there as quickly as possible. Your brothers were right. You could handle yourself. Crowley knew that. So, why did he have a sinking feeling in his stomach?
*time skip*
Crowley was a demon who was proud of the fact. He was proud that he was ruthless and sometimes cruel. He was proud he had no attachments or anything. But since he had met you, that had changed. Crowley found out he did have a softer side. It was a side he only showed to you. Crowley didn't think it was possible, but you had somehow managed to make him fall in love with you.
So, when he hadn't heard from you for three days after you left for your simple hunt, Crowley began to worry. Something was telling him that you weren't alright. That feeling didn't sit right with him, so when he finished his daily meeting with his demons, Crowley snapped himself to Earth, where he sensed the angel Castiel was. If anyone knew where he could find the Winchesters, it was the blue-eyed angel.
Much to his surprise, Castiel was already with your brothers. The motel room was a mess and your brothers were no better. They were pacing and arguing so much, they hadn't even noticed Crowley's presence until he cleared his throat. Suddenly,  to guns were pointed at his face. "That's more like it. Now, what seems to be the trouble boys? And where is your lovely sister?"
The guns lowered and the two exchanged a glance. "Where is she?" Crowley asked, receiving no answer. Not even Castiel would meet his gaze. Anger coursed through the demon when no one would give him a response. "WHERE THE BLOODY HELL IS SHE?!" he screamed, making the seasoned hunters jump a bit.
"We don't know. We haven't heard from her. I-It was just a simple salt-n-burn. I don't understand," Sam muttered, turning away from Crowley. Dean still stared at Crowley, but took a moment to glare at his brother. If there was one person Dean was more protective of than Sam, it was you.
"Where did you denim-clad morons send her?!" Crowley demanded. He was going to find you. Sam told him the area you had gone since he didn't have an actual address. In an instant, Crowley was gone again. Finding you was now his first priority. Sam and Dean looked at each other for a second. Sam shook his head and moved, eager to start his search again. He didn't have time to worry about Crowley. Dean on the other hand couldn't help his mind from wandering to the two of you. He'd never seen Crowley this way. Not in all the years he'd known him.
Another couple of hours later, Sam's computer pinged. "I got it! I got her! Good girl, Y/N!" Dean rushed over and looked at the small red ping on the computer that hadn't been there before. "She got her phone turned back on. We got her, Dean!" Sam was up in an instant, grabbing his jacket and running out of the room. Dean pulled out his phone and dialed the number he usually hated calling. "Crowley? Sam found her."
"So did I," Crowley's voice came from the other end of the line, as the demon in question turned to face you lying on the hospital bed. Your body looked so frail. Your skin was littered with bruises and you'd suffered a couple broken ribs and a broken leg. Crowley had found your car first and then followed the signs to the hospital. Once there, he plugged in your phone and turned it on so your brothers could find you.
Crowley hung up the phone before Dean could say anything else. Then, he pulled a chair up next to the bed and took your hand in his. He didn't say anything at first. Crowley didn't do feelings well. He wasn't sure how to handle them, other than anger. But when he looked at you, all the feelings that he normally suppressed came bubbling to the surface. "What have you done to me, Kitten?" he whispered. He watched your hand for any sign of movement. Anything that would tell him you were waking up. The sign he got was not what he expected.
"C-Crowley?" His hazel eyes snapped up to your face. Your voice was scratchy and a bit deep from being unconscious. "Hello, pet. Had me worried I was going to have to take your soul back to Hell with me." You let out a chuckle which turned into a cough. Crowley snapped you a cup of water.
"My brothers would kick your ass and you know it," you said after you put the cup down. Crowley laughed lightly, his hand still in yours. "I-I'm glad to see you, Crowley." Crowley blinked in surprise. "Are you?" You smiled and nodded. "I am. I thought I was going to die. I couldn't really move and no one knew where I was. And all I could think about was how my brothers would be and you. I love you, Crowley. I know it's silly, but I do."
"Kitten, it isn't silly. I am quite a darling devil, you know." You rolled your eyes, making him smile. "Crowley," you playfully warned. "Truthfully, pet I think that, perhaps, I love you as well." You beamed, wanting nothing more than to sit up and kiss him. As if reading your mind, Crowley laughed again. "None of that. When you're fully healed, we can get into all manner of diabolical trouble. Until then, you are staying right here." You pouted a bit, but knew he was right. "Alright. I love you, my demon king," you whispered before your eyes began closing again. He leaned up and kissed your forehead, not really paying attention to the two people standing outside your hospital room.
"Are we going in there?" Sam asked, itching to storm in and pull Crowley away from you. Dean just shook his head. "Dude! He's kissing our sister!" Dean laughed lightly, placing a hand on his baby brother's shoulder. "I'm not blind, Sammy. But…she's happy. And honestly, I've never seen Crowley so worried before. I think he really cares about her. I mean, as much as a soul-sucking demon can care. He'll keep her safe."
Sam huffed, but stayed where he was. Dean let a small smile grace his lips as he watched how careful Crowley was with you. Sure, they'd give him the "big brother talk" later, but for now, Dean was okay just stepping back for a bit. As long as you were happy and protected, Dean was happy. And it seemed the King of Hell was the perfect guy for the job.
(a/n: I hope you liked it! I missed writing SPN!)

So I watched SPN for years, right up until the end of S11, when they brought back Mary. I heard that S15 would be the last season, and I was like ‘oh ok I’ll rewatch (for like the 8th time) and finish SPN then’ BUT THEN 15x18 happened and I was violently pulled back into the SPN fandom. I still haven’t caught up fully watching yet, but I’ve read so much discourse now...and I have thoughts. Hypotheses currently. I’ll wait to finish the whole show for real to call any of this theories but, I wanted to record my thoughts.
They’re about Chuck. As a villain. Which weirds me out. As an antagonist? Sure. As evil? No. Can’t envision it. I just finished my rewatch of S5 and, damn, but if Chuck is the ultimate villain, S5 reads very differently. :0
But I recently saw a post comparing Dean’s reaction in 1x18 (I believe) to his in 10x05 (for sure) about when someone mentions his mother’s death. In 1x18, it’s Sam when they were children and Dean gets angry. In 10x05, it’s a group of high school girls and Dean just bops his head along to the song. The post was framing it as 10x05 not understanding Dean’s thoughts about his mother, but I think that both episodes understand Dean. When Dean is a child, the trauma over his mother’s murder is still fresh. By 10x05, the event is 70 years in the past. Of course it still affects Dean. Of course. You never really get over something like that. But I’d argue that after 70 years, Dean has moved through the stages of grief to acceptance. It still hurts, but like an old ache, not a fresh, still-bleeding wound.
Interestingly, 10x05 is when we see Chuck, after a long absence. He’s watching the play, probably happy that someone loves his work enough to even make a musical, but he is also watching the Winchesters. The actual episodes of the show, aka the books Chuck writes, are what Chuck knows/cares about regarding the Winchesters. Despite being God, I’d argue he doesn’t pay attention to every second and all the little minutia of the boys’ lives. So, here in 10x05, we have confirmation that Chuck is around to see that Dean has healed from his mother’s death.
Later, in S11, Dean acts as therapist/life counsellor to Chuck/God, regarding Amara and Lucifer. And it works! Dean teaches God about family and about healing. Why does God listen to Dean Winchester, a random human? Perhaps it is because of S1-5. Perhaps it is because Dean and Sam were part of God’s test, as God himself describes it in 5x22.
What was the test? Was it God’s experiment about choice and free will? About freedom vs peace? Or, perhaps, was God trying to understand sibling relationships? He and Amara are two faces of the same coin. They are siblings, but with very different outlooks and it caused a rift between them, caused Chuck to seal Amara away before she could destroy his creations. Chuck regretted this, but saw it as a necessary betrayal. But then, some time later, Chuck’s angelic children experience their own betrayal and sibling rift. Lucifer tries to turn the angels against God, rebel and reject God. He makes demons, for sure, and maybe even Hell. But why? God figures that Lucifer was maybe jealous of the new baby (humans) like others in the show postulates. Or maybe Lucifer had beef specifically with Michael, because humans are little more than amoebas from an angelic perspective. Aside from Castiel, Anna and a handful of other angels, angels consistently view humans as humans might view dust mites. Maybe humans were the cause of the rift between Michael and Lucifer, but it was Michael and Lucifer’s relationship that needed fixing in the end, regardless.
So God is left with the sad conclusion that maybe close siblings will inevitably betray each other and be unable to forgive and heal. He wants to heal with Amara. But he also wants Michael and Lucifer to be able to heal. (It doesn’t occur to God that maybe Lucifer’s problem was never with humanity or Michael; it was with God.)
So God has research to do, to see if it’s possible for siblings to experience such deep betrayal and still heal. He turns to his little hairless apes, the only sentient species on Earth with potential to parallel the angels. He starts testing siblings. Cain and Abel are first up. Needless to say, but the betrayal was too strong and left no room for healing. But on down the line of Cain, God continues testing. Eventually, we come to Sam and Dean.
God has scheduled Michael and Lucifer’s family counselling session for 2010. All the data up to this point says it can only end badly. Maybe it’ll half-kill the Earth, but it’s finally time for Michael and Lucifer to meet and for one of them to die. God isn’t happy about this conclusion, but it’s what the data says. So, finally, the last test subjects, the last in the line who will be the vessels for Michael and Lucifer’s showdown, arrive. Sam and Dean Winchester are to be the last sibling test. The conclusion seems foregone at this point, but there is no point in cancelling the last bit of the test after so long, so it continues. God watches. And Sam and Dean surprise God. Siblings after siblings had failed for millennia to heal. Betrayals too strong, healing too little, too late. But Sam and Dean. no matter how badly they hurt each other, find a way to come back together and heal. They don’t give up on each other, despite millennia of data to the contrary. Still, the angels and demons push and push at Sam and Dean until their rift is as wide and as deep as Michael and Lucifer’s, as God’s and Amara’s (in late S4). It seems, despite the brothers’ best efforts earlier on, it’s all for naught.
But there is a further element of randomness, something God couldn’t foresee. Castiel. God hasn’t had occasion for romantic love in his own experience, so he is entirely blind to what choices Castiel is likely to make. He provides an element of randomness to the experiment, an essential part that gives Dean the ultimate chance to go back to Sam and begin to heal (4x22).
Throughout S5, Sam and Dean heal. There is hurt, still, of course, but they love each other and forgive each other. By 5x22, they’ve surprised everyone. Even the angels have given up on turning them against each other, and have shrugged and settled for using Nick and Adam as the vessels for the showdown. Sam and Dean passed their test. They were siblings who betrayed each other and healed from it. God reconsiders how family counselling will go with Michael and Lucifer. He figured it would be the Apocalypse, the end of the problems between Michael and Lucifer, as one of them dies, as had always happened before. But, Sam and Dean showed God, that though it is rare, it is possible to heal. So God gives Sam and Dean an out. He gives Sam the strength to seize back control from Lucifer, should things go south.
Finally, the showdown arrives. Michael and Lucifer meet. They talk things out. To God’s surprise, Lucifer reveals that he never had a problem with Michael. He had forgiven Michael long ago. But Michael couldn’t forgive Lucifer. He had to be a ‘good son’ and do what he thought God wanted him to do. But Michael didn’t realise, that God doesn’t give orders. Free will all the way, baby! But the whole thing comes as a surprise. Apparently, all this time, the problem relationship wasn’t siblings, it was parents.
Oops.
Good thing God had a back-up plan.
Sam throws himself and Lucifer (and Michael and Adam) into the Cage. Michael and Lucifer have an eternity to figure things out between each other now. But that’s beside the point. The point is, now, that God has to start testing all over again. Not how to fix sibling relationships, but how to fix parent-child relationships.
God restores Castiel, perhaps for a few reasons because God exists outside of time, but originally it may have been just for one. He likes Castiel. He is impressed that Castiel invented free will for himself, broke free of angelic programming (multiple times over), and did it all for love. It’s novel. It’s interesting. God might even think it’s sweet. But God has had time later, and thought about it, and he has a plan. And Castiel is essential.
But Dean Winchester is the key.
Sam and Dean’s relationship with their own father has been strained, but both boys find a way to forgive John his flaws and failings, and love him. Whenever they do get a chance to see him again, post his death, they don’t hate him. They’ve healed. John’s relationship with Sam and Dean is one point of data, Abraham and Isaac another. There are many data points that God can reflect back on and consider.
But as S6 through S10 roll on, God watches Sam and Dean and Castiel. He even watches Crowley and Rowena for another data point. Dean is his main focus, however. (This is a little meta, but as the story focuses more on Dean than Sam post S5, it ties in. Prior to S6, both Sam and Dean were essential - the sibling test. Now, post S5, the parent test, Dean is the most essential. Of course, Sam and Castiel are important too. But Dean is key.)
Dean is a good father. He was a good father to Sam, even when he was only 6 years old himself. He was a good father to Ben. He was willing to die for Bobby John. He’s always good with kids. Not only that, but Dean is blunt enough, brave enough, and crazy enough to tell God to God’s face what he thinks. God needs Dean’s advice, his perspective and opinion on family relationships, but he also needs to see what Dean would do if he were in God’s shoes.
[Edit (1/04/21): After seeing Michael and Lucifer (mostly) heal, and after seeing Sam and Dean heal their relationship, God finally has hope for him and Amara. So God logically wants to retrieve Amara from her prison. But how? Well, he could just wander on up to Cain and do it himself, but what would Amara say? “So I see you’ve come crawling back, eh, Chucky?” She wouldn’t be impressed with God. She wouldn’t understand, because she’s hopeless too. SO how to give her hope? How to make her see that she and God can be okay again? Why, stick her near Dean Winchester, of course! So God sets things up for Dean to get and lose the Mark of Cain, thereby ensuring that Amara will feel a connection to Dean and stick around him/keep him alive long enough for Dean to work his life-coach magic.]
In S11, God and Amara heal their relationship because of the hope Sam and Dean gave God, and also the direct advice Dean gives God. God and Lucifer, not so much.
God needs more data. He needs to see what Dean would do. In comes Castiel’s relevance. God sets things up so that Lucifer can have a son. A nephil. Jack. And God points Castiel in Jack’s direction, trusting Castiel’s ability for unconditional love to keep Jack alive long enough for the experiment. Castiel becomes Jack’s father. But Castiel will never betray Jack, the way God betrayed Lucifer. And, besides, Castiel isn’t the target of this experiment. But it is Castiel’s relationship with Dean Winchester that provides the link needed to get the experiment rolling.
Because Jack is Castiel’s son, he is therefore Sam and Dean’s nephew. Except, God has been watching Castiel and Dean. And, frankly, their romantic love for each other is so obvious even God cannot miss it. Through Castiel, Dean sees Jack as his son too. He loves Jack, exactly like a son. In this way, Dean parallels God, and Jack parallels Lucifer.
But God knows Dean would not easily turn on any child, let alone his own child. So God had a plan for that too. One that Amara helped him with.
They brought back Mary Winchester.
Mary is the one person in existence whose loss would hurt Dean enough to spur him to action. So, she was brought back to die. It was a matter of only a few years of gentle prodding to get everything in position. Jack causes Mary’s death. Dean is faced with a horrible decision. If Jack can kill Mary, what’s to say that Sam and Castiel wouldn’t be next? Mary’s death is like everything beginning all over again for Dean as well. Her first death set off a chain reaction, a series of unfortunate events that spanned decades and nearly caused the ruination of not only Dean’s life, but Sam’s and John’s and even the world. That scar, which had healed as well as it could after 70 years, that God saw was healed in 10x05, has been violently opened up again. It’s the only thing that could force Dean’s hand, that could get him to betray Jack and try to kill him. If Jack had killed Sam or Castiel, it wouldn’t have had the same effect. Both Sam and Castiel had died and come back so many times, and while it would hurt Dean and make him doubt Jack, their deaths would be a sacrifice that Dean would feel obligated to respect, to give Jack a second chance like they would both want. (And God has been laying the groundwork for Dean, convincing him that Jack is evil, will be evil like Lucifer, can’t be allowed to live. All things God has thought about Lucifer over time. Was Lucifer inherently evil? Was their rift inevitable?)
So, here it is. The big test. Will Dean kill Jack? Will he betray Jack and cause an unhealable rift? Or will he find a way to heal, like he did with Sam against all the odds?
And, once again, Dean impresses God. He refuses to kill Jack.
But now we’re in the endgame. Sam, Dean and Castiel are aware that Jack’s life was only on the line because of God. It’s not something they can forgive, or understand. They’re all God’s guinea pigs, and while he loves his guinea pigs, he knows he’s hurt them in the name of science, of knowledge. or healing, and God can’t undo what he’s done. Free will is linear, after all. So it is time for the Winchesters, Castiel and Jack included, to be done with God. God is done with them, too. It’s time for them to be free and at peace. The experiments are done. God has decided not to kill Lucifer. He has decided to try to heal. He can get Lucifer out of the Empty and talk and try to fix things. He has forever to fix things, now that he knows he can. (The last element of this, Jack forgiving Dean for trying to kill him, is something I have limited knowledge of, but I am under the impression happens so... To be added in the edit once I finish the series.)
But the only way the Winchesters will be able to rest, is if they think God, the last and greatest villain, is out of the way. They know they’ve been manipulated their whole lives, first towards the sibling experiment and now the parent experiment, so they need to think God is gone so they can feel secure in their free will once more. Truthfully, God never took their free will. He set them up in situations, maybe even gave a bio-chemical nudge of anger (Dean) or attraction (Sam and Eileen) every now and then. But the choices were always theirs. Still, God knows they won’t see it that way. So he sets things up so that they can defeat him.
He lets them win. He wants them to win. They cannot defeat God, after all. It’s not God’s time, and Death is the only one who can claim God in the end, as the two embrace as friends and walk to the next existence. But the Winchesters need this, and so God allows it. A last gift, to the beings who have been such help, hope and inspiration to him.
With an eye for an eventual S16, 15x20 is written to be ‘an ending’ but also one that could easily be reframed as a bad dream.
For example...
Unfortunately, after Jack, suped up on a extra Grace God lent him, restores the Earth and expends all the Grace (”giving up the mantle of God so that their is no God, no plans, only Free Will”), and Dean, Sam and Jack head back to the Bunker to regroup and gather the ingredients to do the spell to rescue Castiel from the Empty, they’re jumped by monsters who are angry with how much God has fucked with them on behalf of the Winchesters. 15x20 is all a djinn dream Dean is trapped in.
16x01 is Dean waking himself up from the djinn dream, Sam and Jack escaping their own monsters, and then the end of 16x01 is Dean saying something about waking Castiel up from his own dreams in the Empty. The rest of S16 sees the boys save Castiel, reunite with Eileen, start a monster-hunting Bobby Singer/Men of Letters-esque organisation, Dean and Castiel getting together and getting married on Valentine’s Day, Jack getting to live a normal life, going to school, making friends, etc.
If their is no S16 ever (which would be criminal), then 15x20 makes no sense, unless it is plainly a recount of an old, hopeless ending written by God. However you spin it, 15x20 is not the way it seems (like owls).
All things being said, God is an antagonist, but he’s not evil. He’s an asshole, sure, but he never once worked against the Winchesters, never bet against them, never tried to erase or end them. He wanted them to win. He wanted to see the fruits of free will be love, second chances, hope, forgiveness, healing, and happiness, not just betrayal, pain, selfishness, jealousy, disappointment, and hopelessness.
Why is the ending he shows Becky ‘hopeless’? Because God is. He has spent his long existence losing his most loved family members. Amara, Lucifer. How can things end well for God, when they can’t even end well for humans? But Sam and Dean defy the script, again and again. They surprise God, defying the statistics, defying the hypotheses, throwing the experiment into disarray. Giving God hope. Sam and Dean were okay. Dean and Jack were okay. If God had a romantic love, he would find hope from Dean and Castiel being okay. But when God wrote the book he showed Becky, he was writing what he thought would happen. In the end, surely, not even Dean can be enough to hold Sam and Cas and Jack together. But in the end, as we see, as God sees, he is proven wrong and he’s happy to be wrong. He’s hopeful. And he can leave Dean, Sam, Castiel and Jack, and all the angels and all the humans, to rule the Earth and the Heavens. He doesn’t need to learn anything more from them, so he heads to the Empty, with Amara, with Lucifer, with Death (Billie or not, Death is there for God in the end), and they can all depart for a better existence of their own.
If you read all of this, thanks! I eagerly anticipate watching the remaining 10 seasons so I can come back and edit the heck outta this, but until then, if y’all have any thoughts, I’d be interested to hear them~
TLDR: God is a morally bankrupt scientist and the Winchesters are his guinea pigs, but he’s not evil and he does love his guinea pigs, even if he could really treat them nicer.

A/N: I tried something with this part...don’t know if it’s gonna come out good or totally suck. Obviously you guys know what you’re getting yourself into with the context of this episode. I really didn’t know how to add proper warning that would make sense, so bare with me. Obviously read at your own discretion. I hope you guys enjoy!
You'd do just about anything for a hunt if it meant an innocent life could be saved from disaster, or worse, death. YAnd you did your fair share of stupid things over the years. Sitting here in an abstinence support group after regaining your virginity was on the top of the list. You sat on one of the fold-out wooden chairs and patiently waited for your first and only meeting of "Abstinence Purifies Us" to begin. It seemed the group was going to be much larger than you realized it was going to be when you saw a crowd of women come into the room designated for things such as this. What you noticed right away when everyone formed a circle to start the meeting was that there was not a single man in sight besides the brothers.
While you continued waiting, you went on thinking about how regaining your virginity at your age would be slightly strange as well, presuming almost all of the group in the group were going to be those who were high school aged to some in their twenties. You were a bit surprised to see a few who appeared to be possibly other than you. Perhaps they were like you, born-again virgins like you who wanted a fresh start in life. You folded your hands in your lap and patiently waited for everyone to join and get started.
“Good afternoon, everyone. I’m Suzy.” The woman sitting at the head of the circle spoke up and introduced herself after spotting a few new faces in the group. “I’d thought we’d begin with a silent prayer for our missing friends.”
You and Sam closed your eyes and lowered your head out of respect for everyone else when they did the same. Dean didn't see much of the point, seeming to be lost in his own personal thoughts when he stared at Suzy to follow her directions. You opened your eyes to check up on Dean, only to see he was being stubborn as usual. You cleared your throat and shot him a warning glare to play along. He quickly did as everyone else, knowing it was better to go along with the part without causing too much suspension. You rolled your eyes before shutting them again for a few more seconds before Suzy concluded the prayer.
“Now,” Suzy finally moved on to the actual beginning of the meeting after getting the formalities out of the way. “Does anyone have anything they’d like to share?”
"I wrote a new piece of verse." A young woman eagerly raised her hand, deciding to go before anyone else could try. She picked up a pink piece of paper and stood up from her seat. "It's called 'Sex is a racket, and God's ball is in your tennis court."
You were expecting to hear all sorts of different things during this meeting, but that one not one of them. You had to cover your hand with your mouth to keep the smile that crossed your face from showing how ridiculous the work sounded. You quickly composed yourself when you caught the disapproving shake of the head from Sam. You wanted to hear what was written, but it seemed Suzy declined the offer, not wanting to hear it today. It seemed she was trying to save the new members from not coming back next time for a bad first experience.
“And we would love to hear that, Tammy—later.” Suzy politely shot down the woman from letting her read to the group. You swore a few people seemed relieved at not being forced to listen to another one of the woman’s works. Tammy's smile slowly fell from her lips at being shot down from her writing she spent working so hard on. She sank down to her seat as Suzy directed her attention to you and the boys. “Why don’t we hear from our new friends? Sam, what brought you here to reclaim your virginity?”
You looked over at the younger Winchester to hear his response. He suddenly appeared to be a deer in headlights  when everyone's eyes landed on him, curious to see what his answer was going to be. He wasn't sure what to say, in all honesty, he decided to go with the truth. "Well, I guess because every woman I've ever had relations with, uh...it...hasn't ended well."
“He’s not lying.” You mumbled to yourself, knowing from personal experience. It seemed your comment didn’t go unnoticed from the man himself. You turned your head to see his infamous bitch face flash in your direction. “What? Sorry, Sammy, but it’s the truth.”
“Thank you for sharing, Sam. Stay strong. Stay pure.” Suzy said. The motto was chanted by everyone else in the group before the next person was up to share. And from the way it seemed to be, you were up next. “What about you, Y/N? What set you on the path away from sin?”
"Well, I guess I've been doing a lot of soul searching lately. I feel at this point in my life I need a fresh start. I haven't liked the way it's turned out since I lost my virginity." You began with your reason why you were here, thinking quick on your feet for a reasonable answer. Sometimes honesty was the best policy. So you went from there. "Funny enough, I gave it up pretty late in life. I was actually a virgin up until I was twenty-seven. Sex wasn't important to me. I was focused on other things. And if I'm being honest...I was scared to give it up to anyone else. It's such an intimate thing for someone to do. Sure, some might think sex is fun, and while they—"
You wanted to say that someone had the right to have sex with whoever they wanted, a natural reaction when it came to your way of thinking. You managed to bite your tongue in time before you could say it, remembering the crowd you were speaking to. "Basically, I wasn't in a rush to lose it. But I knew who I secretly wanted to be my first."
You turned your head to look over at Dean, a smile creeping across your lips at the honesty even he didn't know about. "It was a spur of the moment kind of thing. We just said our first 'I love yous' to each other and somehow one thing led to another…and we made love in the backseat of his old Chevy.  It was out in the middle of an empty field at night, just the two of us with the radio playing in the background. All of it felt perfect, if I’m being honest.”
You swore you saw a few ladies drift off into personal thought of what it might have been like. A sort of dreamy expression when they saw Dean. He looked like the kind of guy who could charm the pants off anyone. While they were saving themselves for marriage, you saw the wandering eyes, the hidden lust even they couldn't ignore. A little bit of satisfaction came over you knowing he was all yours to keep.
“I realized a lot of bad things feel good in the moment. I had to learn the hard way temptations like mine come with consequences." You went on. "I discovered mine the morning after I gave up my virginity. It turned out Dean was doing something behind my back, something that broke my heart."
"He cheated on you?" Bonnie felt the need to cut in, her pretend sympathetic expression was hidden behind a told-you-so kind of tone.
"Sure. He...cheated on me." You went on with the lie, knowing the truth would sound bonkers to these kinds of people. "Anyway, what trust I thought I had in him disappeared. Lying to me about something like that hurt me. I guess it was God's way of punishing me. But I didn't listen. I ended up doing some other things I regretted."
"This is a safe space, Y/N." Suzy reassured you after falling silent, wanting to act as if you were still guilt ridden to this very day. "Anything you admit today will not be faced with judgement. We're here to help one another. Confession can be a great way to start over."
"During our breakup, we decided to go our separate ways for a while. Dean dated a nice woman while I stayed single. However, while I tried to be good, I lost myself again to the temptation of sin. One day when I was feeling my lowest and drinking way too much. Sam and I..." The ladies all collectively raised their brows, curious and hanging off your every word about what you were going to say. You let out a sigh, pretending as if you had been holding your breath. "We had sex. I mean, it wasn't like what Dean and I had. It was mindless, rough sex. Our souls weren't in it. Sex always seems like a good idea because it feels good. That is, until you come down from the high and realize what did."
"And you never did it again?" Bonnie asked you, her little too wide-eyed stare pointed in your direction from what you admitted.
"Oh, no. We hooked up on and off for a year behind Dean's back. And we denied it every time he asked us." You said, adding fuel to the discomfort slowly growing across Bonnie's face the more she heard. "But it made me realize how much I loved my boyfriend. Whenever I slept with someone else, it didn't feel right. And I'm sure he would say the same thing with every chick he brought back from the bars before we started dating. If anything, his biggest sin would be the slew of sloppy one night stands." You turned your head and gave the older Winchester a bright smile as you reached out to grab his hand and embraced with your own. "Right, honey?"
"Thank you for that...interesting share, Y/N." Suzy said. From the looks of it, she was still trying to wrap her head around the details you painted for her and the group. Everyone chanted their slogan to you before moving on to the next person up to share. "And what about you, Dean?"
"Like my loving girlfriend has told you, I have a history of one-night stands. I wasn't a prude. To me, Sex has always felt—I don't know—good, you know? Relationships weren’t for me. It was always too...complicated. It was better to hit it and quit it.” Dean chuckled at the joke that sounded funny to him, but landed on deaf ears. His smile slowly faded as he got more serious to match the tone of the room. “That was until I met Y/N. If there’s one thing I learned while we’ve been together, it’s the thrill of getting to know the person you want to spend the rest of your life with. And I guess like your virginity, you want to give it to someone special. You want to give all of yourself away to this person. For a long time I thought that wasn't for me. Sex has always been about the pleasure. It was fun. You know?”
Dean was trying his best to work with the crowd to try and get them to understand where he was coming from here. But it seemed he lost them again. Nevertheless, he went on with his confession. "But, uh...sometimes all those hookups make you feel bad, you know? You're drunk. You shack up. Then, it's the whole morning thing. You know, 'Hey, that was fun.' And then, 'adios,' you know? Always the 'adios.'
"I got tired of that. I hated filling the void in my heart with something temporary. I guess life kicked me in the pants at some point and made me realize what I really wanted. I wanted Y/N. And I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. And, yeah, we kind of did things backwards...had a few bumps in the road. But isn't that what life is all about?” A few women nodded their head in agreement while the others verbally answered. "If anything, being in a long committed relationship made me appreciate how sex can be something meaningful."
You had to admit, Dean had you in the first half of what he was saying. He sounded genuine with his words, as if he was putting his heart into this and playing up the role to make a good impression. Until it veered in the direction you should've feared. "Like I said, sex has always been fun. I'm not denying that. And it's even better with a life-long partner. You get to explore their body in an intimate way no one else will ever be able to do. Know what makes them go crazy . Isn’t that what it comes down to, right?
"There's the touching and the feeling all of each other, knowing exactly where to go that gets them all excited. There’s no fumbling around. You just get straight to the point.” Dean was officially having too much fun at this point when he realized almost everyone was hooked in his words, yourself included. He dropped his voice so it was lower, almost sensual. “My favorite part is being able to trace every inch of her body, touching the places that only I get to see. In the moment it’s just the two of us moving together, pressing and pulling...grinding."
Dean was and always will be a flirt, it was in his personality. A special skill set of his that you admired even before got together with him. Sometimes all it took was a pretty smile for you to feel swooned. While he might annoy you with that mouth of his most of the time, he also could get you in the mood. And it seemed you weren’t the only one starting to awkwardly shift in your seat from the way he was going on. You scratched the back of your ear as you tried to keep yourself focused and not lulled into a fantasy while he went on.
“You forget about everything and everyone around you when you hit that perfect spot. All you can think about is reaching the end. And slowly, everything just builds and builds and builds until it all just..." Dean made an explosive noise to sneakily hint at what he was saying, trying to keep it family friendly. Tammy found herself lost in the moment, crushing the paper with her written verse, as if she was trying to calm herself down.

Sam was starting to hate his brother at the moment. The room shifted to an awkward tone after hearing what kind of filth Dean thought would be appropriate enough to speak about. Simple talk that got even the prudent of virgins fidgeting in their seats. You weren’t saved from his ever present glare when you happened to feel his lingering stare upon you. You guessed it was for the confession you made yourself, and not stopping Dean when you should’ve. You innocently shrugged your shoulders and looked on, never admitting to the fact you were lost in the moment like every other woman here. Sam’s expression changed into his infamous bitchface to his brother, appearing again in the span of a few minutes.
“But the whole thing was just a little too, uh...sticky. And complicated. So, uh, I got my ‘V’ card back so I can do things right.” Dean topped off his confession with a smile and a slap to his knee. “The end.”
After Dean’s explicit confession, the meeting continued on like normal without anything titillating details from the other members. You half-listened to everyone else as they took the opportunity to confess themselves of what almost tempted them this week along with a couple of Bible verses being read aloud to help strengthen the bond to their abstinence before wrapping up things. You helped clean up the chairs and tidy up things, deciding it was the least you could do after your share.
Luckily the meeting continued on like normal without anything else more...exciting from the other members. You half listened to everyone take the opportunity to confess this week what tempted them and a couple of Bible verses before wrapping up. You helped clean up the chairs and tidy things up, deciding to be a little bit respectful after the share you had. To be honest, you said all of those things out of fun, knowing your sexual history was a tad bit odd compared to most.
You made your way back over to the boys after all of you did your share to help clean up the place, letting everyone else mingle among one another. Sam didn’t waste a second after getting you and Dean to enough of a deserted spot to share his discomfort felt during the entire meeting because of the both of you. You broke out into a smile even before he could get the words out.
“So, wee bit of an over share, guys?” Sam sarcastically asked you, still squirming around at the details forever burned in his mind. You let out a chuckle in amusement. “It’s not funny, Y/N.”
“Kind of is, Sammy.” You teased him.
“I was purifying.” Dean said, going to his defense about the reason why he went so graphic. He found himself losing track of focus when he spotted the consular, Suzy, talking to one of the members. “Hey, she look familiar to you? Swear I know her from somewhere.”
“Pack it up, Casanova. That stupid line might work, but you’re not single anymore.” You reminded him.
“Oh, sweetheart, there’s no one in this world I want to give up my virginity to again besides you.” Dean laid it on thick with the flirtation when you took his words the wrong way. You rolled your eyes. “Seriously. It’s bugging me. Come on, let’s go find out.”
You felt a tap on your shoulder, delaying you from responding to Dean’s request. You looked over to see it was Bonnie standing there with a too wide of a smile. “I’ll catch up in a second, hun. The girls need to talk.” You joked with Dean, nodding your head to Bonnie. He escaped before he could find out what she wanted to talk to you about. You returned the smile when you glanced back over to her. “Hey.”
“So?” She asked you, curious for you to answer something you had no idea what for. You raised your brows and continued to smile, wondering what the hell she was baiting. “How did you like the meeting? That was quite a share.”
“I loved it. I know, but I feel so comfortable around you guys. This is the first time I’ve ever come clean about this stuff to someone else.” You said. You decided to play along for the hell of it, laying on the act extra thick as you went on. “You know, I couldn't help but think of those who weren't here.”
“Oh. Honor. She's my favorite.” Bonnie said, sadly smiling at the mention of the missing member. Before she could continue this riveting conversation, Bonnie found her attention lingering over to the snack table where she saw one of the women sneaking an extra snack for later. “Would you excuse me?”
“Of course.” You said, stepping out of the way to Bonnie could tend to whatever needed her attention. You thought you might be able to finally sneak away and join Dean, who seemed to be in conversation with Suzy. However you were stopped again by another member. She seemed angry for some reason. “Oh. Hi, there.”
“Her favorite?” She ignored your friendly greeting, too worked up at what she overheard Bonnie say. “She has no idea what kind of girl Honor is.”
“You don't say. Uh, Tammy, right? The poet?” You asked, remembering her name from the horrible poem verse you were able to avoid. She nodded her head. You looked around to see where Sam was, hoping you might be able to sneak away, only it seemed he had your luck when he was cornered by Bonnie after she squashed whatever pulled her away. You withheld the urge to sigh and turned your attention back to her. “Tammy, why don't don't you tell me what kind of girl Honor is?”
That was the wrong thing to ask. She went on a rampage of what kind of person Honor was. You tried your hardest to sound interested as you nodded your head every once in a while, trying to be polite. This wasn’t the kind of stuff you cared for. Or would help the case. “And I bake real cookies for the bake sale. Honor just brings Oreos!” She went on, making you pretend to be shocked. “I mean, she’s not as innocent as everyone thinks she is.”
“What do you mean by that?” You asked her, your tone shifting into a more serious one.
“All I’m saying is that she’s going to hell.” Tammy said. “And you would be too if you didn’t confess those things and come here to repurify yourself. I bet you feel so much better.”
“For sure. I mean, I already been to hell twice. Not fun.” You said. You let out a breath of relief when Dean waved his arm up in the air, catching your attention. His face scrunching up in confusion as to why you were still talking to Tammy. “Could you excuse me? My boyfriend needs me.”
“Is that supposed to be like some kind of metaphor…?” Tammy’s expression dropped at hearing what you just said, making her confused. “Oh! Nice talking to you!”
You politely smiled before turning around and finally headed over to Dean and Suzy, wondering what kind of trouble he was getting himself into during your short time away. You doubt he made a good impression on the woman. But it seemed she wasn’t as quick to judge one from the way she was casually speaking to him, no spouts of words about the damnation he was going to face after death. She seemed the most approachable out of anyone here. Maybe that’s why she was in charge of running the group here. You politely squeezed yourself into the conversation when Suzy spotted you lingering before she smiled, welcoming you right in.
“I hope he’s not bothering you too much.” You playfully joked with the woman. “Dean tends to get a bit excited about these kinds of things. If there’s anything he loves more than me it’s God.”
“Suzy and I were just talking. I swear I’ve seen her face before. I just can’t put my finger on it.” Dean said. “But we were also discussing the fact that she does private counseling.”
“Really? So everyone in the group dishes to you?” You asked curiously.
“They confide. Abstinence is really rough without support and education. It’s a wonderful thing the both of you decided to go on this journey together.” Suzy said, smiling in a kind of way that was admirable for the clear love you and Dean had for each other. And yet you could see there was almost a sadness behind it, almost envious. “Hey, you know what? I have some great books on the vow that really helped me. I live close. I'll just go grab them.”
“No, that’s okay—“ Dean tried to protest the idea of making Suzy go through all the trouble, wanting more to get back to the motel. You quickly cut him off, making his grip around your waist tighten ever so much.
“With a kidnapper on the loose? We can go with you.” You suggested. Out of anyone, Suzy seemed like a sweet woman who wasn’t going to bombard you with guilt over your past behavior. Maybe if you got her alone she might be able to tell you something about Honor and the other missing couple. “Let Dean and I walk you home.”
“No, I'll be fine.” Suzy reassured you.
“Please. It’s the least we could do. Just to be safe.” You told her. When you saw the woman let out a breath, almost as if she was a bit relieved, you smiled. “Just let us pop over to Sam and we’ll be right back.”
Dean dropped his friendly face when he stepped away from Suzy after unwillingly being dragged around town when he wanted nothing more than to go back to the motel with you. You decided to put your efforts on something more important when you had the opportunity than jump into bed the first chance you got. You lost your virginity late in life, you could wait a little while to lose it again. You made your way over to Sam after he wrapped up a conversation with Tammy after he was cornered by the young woman. It seemed she had the same effect on the man from the expression that lingered on his face after she left.
“Hey, we’re gonna walk Suzy home. See if she might know anything else about the vics.” You told the younger man. “Can you stick around here and possibly talk to the rest of the group? See if you might be able to get anything else out?”
“Yeah, sure.” Sam didn’t seem to buy what you were saying, presuming it was a cheap cover to get out of here and back to the motel. “You know, I’m actually trying to work here. I don’t think it’s fair you two are trying to sneak off.”
“Come on, look. You know if Dean was single he’d be all over Suzy trying to do more than just bring her home.” You said. Sam shrugged at the thought, nodding in agreement. “We’re focused as much as you are on the case. No one’s jumping into bed just yet. We're gonna take Suzy home and see if she might know anything else about the people who went missing."
Sam agreed with the plan from how it sounded coming from you. He waited a few seconds before he nodded his head, letting you and his brother head out with Suzy back to her apartment. Right as Sam turned around to see who else he might be able to speak to, he jumped slightly in surprise at seeing Tammy standing there, a little too wide of a smile on her face when she caught him alone. He managed to hide the sigh that wanted to come out behind a forced smile. He hoped all of this was going to be worth it in the end.

The walk to Suzy’s apartment wasn’t too far from the church like she said, the time it took to get there was filled with mindless chatter about what she thought of the town and church. She had nothing but positive things to say since moving here a few months ago herself. You continued on with the fake lie about yourself to keep the conversation going, telling her how you and Dean were planning on getting hitched and how this town was a fresh start for you and the boys. The three of you were a close family after your parents passed away, the only part of your story that was true.
Right away she got to work finding those books she mentioned back at the church. You decided to shrug off your jacket, not sure how long you were going to be here, and decided to look around yourself at how she decorated her place. Suzy mentioned there were quite a few books around here specifically for couples. Your offer to help when asked was granted when she mentioned there were some in a cabinet you were standing next to. You opened up the small door and crouched down to see what she had here. You skimmed her vast collection of books out of partial curiosity to see what an abstinence consular enjoyed to read. When you found what you needed, you cradled them in your arms and got back up, only to discover you felt a strange lingering stare on you. You turned around and spotted Dean’s eyes where they shouldn’t be.
You shot him a warning glare to behave before Suzy caught you. Dean’s smirk when he was caught by you was wiped off his face when you a little too roughly plopped the books down to his hands, Suzy followed suit a few moments later with several more of her own. He muffed a grunt from the several self help books he was forced to carry. You smiled in appreciation and slapped the pile with a little too much force, making him almost lose balance on the books. He struggled to catch them before they could tumble to the ground.
“Thanks, honey.” You cooed. “You’re so strong.”
“Okay. So,” Suzy seemed content at the eight books Dean was currently holding, hoping it would be enough reading material to get started with. “why don't you guys breeze through these, and I'm gonna head to the little girls' room.”
Suzy excused herself before disappearing to another part of her apartment, leaving you and Dean alone in her living room. Dean wasted no time ditching the books somewhere else as you casually looked around the place, all though you weren't sure yet of what you were looking for. It appeared to be like any other bachelorette home. You wandered around the place, glancing over at framed pictures of her life and examining little knick-knacks decorated around the place. Right as you were about to pick up a snowglobe, your cell phone started ringing, distracting you from your search. You looked at the screen to see that it was Sam, probably to check up on you and Dean. You went to answer the call when you spotted a half-open drawer that caught your attention. You let it ring a few more times before you finally answered it, all while opening the drawer just enough to see what was inside, wondering if it was some sort of junk drawer. Only it was much more.
You pulled out a few DVDs that weren't blockbuster movies from the cover. More dirty films from the familiar titles you heard of. You let out a quiet chuckle from the discovery you made. Apparently Miss Abstinence was a former adult star. That's why Dean knew who she was. She had a pretty active role in Casa Erotica, her movie was so good you knew the man kept a downloaded file on his computer. A secret porn stash he thought you knew nothing about. You quickly tucked them back away when an idea popped into your head.
You almost forgot about the call with Sam when you heard his voice from the other line call out your name in a slightly annoyed tone from your delayed response. You closed the drawer with your hip and turned around in your spot so you could casually lean against the dresser. Dean tossed you a confused look from the way you were acting as you finally answered his brother's insensent attempts of getting your attention before he could think the worse.
You half-listened to what he was saying about the case, something about how this wasn't the work of a dragon, but all you could focus on was the sound of Suzy opening up the bathroom door. You told Sam you'd call him back before ending the call. As Suzy stepped back into the living room, you realized the promise you made to Sam was about to be broken. It could've waited until after the hunt was over, but you figured you waited around long enough for your first time.
“I gotta go.” You said, making sure your tone of voice sounded disappointed at how you were skipping out so soon on her. Suzy seemed worried from the way you were acting from the short time she was away. “Oh, it’s nothing. Sam’s just having a bit of trouble. You know men. Always something.”
“Are you sure? It sounds serious.” Dean tried to get himself out of here before he could be pulled into the virtues of why keeping his virginity until marriage was for him. “Maybe we both should make sure he’s all right.”
“That’s okay, honey. He just needs me to pop by the store and pick up some stuff.” You said. The look on Dean’s face was easy to tell he wasn’t buying your lie, despite how it was going to be all for him. He’d find out soon enough. “Thank you for everything, Suzy. I’ll see you at the next meeting.”
Suzy seemed a bit upset at seeing you go so soon before she could properly go through some helpful techniques that you probably could've used. Dean tossed you daggers from leaving him here to spend God knows how long entertaining the consular. You gave him an adoring smile and waved goodbye to your boyfriend, figuring he would be thanking you for leaving him here after the surprise you had planned for him after he got back to the motel.

Imagine going hiking and Dean accidently hearing you sing to the mountains, and he's desperate to find an owner to such beautiful voice.
Tumblr media
“If you ask me, it's rather obvious what we're dealing here with and it won't take much time. But it's always to be better safe than sorry, so I'm thinking we should head once more to-” Sam's rambling was cut short as he looked up from his small notebook only to realize his brother wasn't paying the slightest attention to him “Dean?” he asked without really expecting, or getting, a reaction.
And as if that wasn't enough, he didn't seem to be willing to hide it in the least bit, his eyes trained on his food with a deep frown set on his face as he played around with it. It was that exact fact, and the one that most of his plate was still full which was very concerning if Sam took into consideration that this was his brother that wasn't eating, besides the lack of concentration or talking from his part that prevented Sam from teasing him or even trying to act angry at his brother's clear lack of interest in the case, or anything else if he really thought about it.
“Dean?” he tried to insist once more without much result.
“Dean!” this time it got his brother to blink his eyes several times and get back to reality and Sam didn't know whether it was the tone in his voice or the fact that he had to snap his finger's in front of Dean's face. So long as it got the job done.
“Wh- huh what?” Dean frowned at his brother, voice more gruff than it should be and Sam assumed that the lack of sleep was showing on both his face and voice now.
“I-” he parted his lips but stopped himself from saying anything for a couple seconds “Are you ok, Dean? You've been a little off almost ever since last night. You got... lost in the woods and after I found you, you've been acting... weird.”
“Look-” Dean sighed a little agitated “If you wanna test me, I'm right here, do your thing. But as I told you last night and this morning, at least three times, I have not been abducted or possessed or enchanted or anything. Not in a supernatural way at least.” again another sigh as he looked away “Don't give me that look, ok? It's annoying. Besides, I told you, I got a little distracted yesterday but that's al-”
“Distracted?” Sam raised an eyebrow “You got distracted in the freaking mountains? By what? The shape of the rocks?”
“I mean-” he paused, shrugging almost childishly and definitely unconvincingly in a way he did more often than not when there was something that he was hiding Sam, something not life threatening or dangerous, and that made Sam relax a bit more “Rocks are pretty interesting dude.” and that, they both knew, was his lamest excuse that Sam found himself relaxing a lot more to the point he chuckled.
“Wow that's-” Sam blinked several times “That's too much, even for you. No, seriously, are you going to tell me what it was? Because I know real well I was the only one looking for our monster on that mountain but you had not been busy admiring rocks.”
“What are you gonna start judging my hobbies now? It's so bad, all of a sudden, that I find new interests but you can have any nerdy hobby you want in this family?” Dean fended himself weakly, apparently, because of the loo Sam gave him. That made Dean sigh and roll his eyes. “Look, it was nothing dude. It's hard to explain, yes, but I'm completely fine and I am completely me. Just drop it, alright? Get back on the case and rambling, I'll try to keep up and get back on track soon.” hard to explain didn't even begin to cover it in his mind, mostly because it wasn't all easy to explain with logic and therefore his mind wasn't the only player in this game; it was his heart too.
How could he even begin to explain to Sam that he had gotten so distracted by someone singing? How could he even begin to describe that he had really been that enchanted, that mystified, but it was really not in a supernatural way? He couldn't say that he had gotten carried away listening to the woman, it was clearly a female voice, sing so beautifully he had almost forgotten his name, not to mention the reason why he was in the mountains to begin with. He couldn't say that he had even dreamed of said voice, singing to him the same song he had heard yesterday in the mountains and could clearly remember the lyrics to even now. Maybe also because he had looked for it up, though he would never admit to it, just like he wouldn't admit that he hadn't fund any of the singers (covers or not) to be able to match up to the voice he heard.
All the shine of a thousand spotlights All the stars we steal from the nightsky Will never be enough Never be enough Towers of gold are still too little These hands could hold the world but it'll Never be enough Never be enough
It was his favorite part and he couldn't even believe he had a favorite part.
He couldn't admit that he had been trying to put a face to that voice so bad, he couldn't admit that he had been wondering and needing and aching to hear more of the singing, more of the voice, in the same and different songs. He couldn't admit that he had felt all the things he did just by hearing a song, he couldn't admit that the emotion put in the lyrics by the singer had also affected him this much. He couldn't admit that the reason he had been late and that had made Sam look for him, thinking he had been lost or worse, was because Dean had spent all that time looking for the person behind the voice. He could feel the heat of the blush down to his neck at the thought that it looked like something out of the cheesiest fairytale but it had been true, more true than he too could believe, and so were his feelings so he could defend them if need be. But he wasn't looking for an excuse for that.
Besides, he felt moody enough – and disappointed – this morning that he didn't feel up to explaining everything to his brother.
“Right now, I'm just sleepy that's all.” he mumbled, slightly as an afterthought but mostly to try to keep himself focused “Seems I-” he paused briefly, looking around the cafe and pursing his lips in a way that showed his displeasure “Haven't had my coffee yet. Or enough of it.”
Big mistake, because the moment his stopped their path around the small cafe and landed back on his brother, he saw the realization dawn on him. His eyebrows raise slightly and if it wasn't for the knowing quirk of his lips and the relaxed expression on both his body and face he might have thought for just a second that he was off the hook. Clearly, he wasn't.
“So that's what it is huh?” Sam asked before shaking his head with a laugh. He didn't know, of course, but that was no better yet. Because he didn't know the one reason out of the two to his lack of focus. “You like her that much huh?”
“What?” he said it through a mouthful that he took a little too fast to avoid looking at his brother but oh well. His brother figured one of the two reasons in 0.5 seconds so any effort would be in vain.
As long as he didn't know how saddened he was by
“You know what.” the smile on Sam's lips only got bigger “That waitress we met two days ago, the one that works here and the reason why you're here for everyday ever since. And don't try to deny it, you're terrible at it today.” he crossed his arms over his chest and looked at him despite Dean's best (read: worst) effort to avoid eye-contact and give anything away by eating as much as he could.
“I really don't get what you're trying to say, Sam. I mean-” he laughed, nervously, as he tried to swallow over his food because of the look his brother gave him “I haven't even managed to look up from my plate. How could I have noticed (Y/n)'s not here this morning even though her shift has supposedly started half an hour ago? I haven't-” but Dean paused when he noticed the surprise on Sam's face and realized his mistake.
“Honestly?” Sam tried to keep himself from laughing but as expected failed “It's really best if you eat instead of speak. Wow.” he blinked, shaking his head “Well, at least that explains it.”
Dean's lips parted as he prepared to speak back and defend at least what was left of his dignity but then all words died out in his lips when he heard the small laugh next to him that he knew all-too-well and that he would have been too embarrassed to hear in such a situation so close, especially after what had been said, but he was too relieved to care about that. Besides, he was going to make Sam pay for it by, oh let's say, ask him to stay a day or two or ten after the case was over as a favor for all this.
“Honestly if I had known I'd be this sought after I might have asked for a raise sooner.” he heard your voice and noticed you filling up his cup before he looked up to see you there and felt his smile become ten times bigger when he saw you looking at him with a soft smile of yours “Hey Dean.” he took great pleasure in the few seconds of you just focusing on him until Sam cleared his throat and you snapped out of it and smiled, albeit a little apologetically, at Sam “Hello Sam.”
“Good morning, (Y/n). Seems like you've been running a bit late today according to my brother here, everything alright?”
“Oh absolutely fine, it's just that some mornings I tend to help in the kitchen when the cook's running late you see.” you explained “I hope everything is to your liking so far?” you asked but your eyes once more trailed to Dean and with a smile on his face Sam nodded his head with a hum.
“Just great, though I think the company is not to someone's preference today. I might have to leave early, visit the library and all, you think you can keep Dean some company?” he asked so innocently, yet not to Dean who knew him, which only made the older Winchester's head snap in his direction faster than ever before; eyes wide in horror.
“Oh I'm sure I could spend my break with him, no problem, though it might be quick. We have the weekly karaoke night tonight so I might have some extra work to do. If that's alright?” you asked hopefully.
“Karaoke night? Didn't know you had that.” Dean blinked and you nodded your head.
“Yeah, the cafe obviously works at night and we make sure to organize karaokes and parties at least three times a week. This month boss is more busy so we're down to once a week but that doesn't stop me or any of the customers from taking over the stage till the early morning. You could-” you paused to glance at a couple who asked to pay at a table nearby and gave them a nod “You could always come by then too? If you're free.” you suggested softly and Dean didn't even hesitate to give a nod which made you beam at him.
“Lovely.” you said “If you'll excuse me for a second, I got work to do but I'll be right back. And if you need anything else just ask.”
“Well that went better than you could have expected or achieved on your own to be honest. So-” Sam paused to give his brother a smile “Your welcome.”
“Better? Oh really? Why didn't you tell her 'Hey (Y/n) my brother's an idiot and too much of a coward to ask you out, why don't you do it yourself?' huh? That would have been less desperate.” Dean only glared.
“Alright, I'll try that next time.” Sam simply shrugged, focusing back on his noted before Dean had the chance to say anything else. The older Winchester only rolled his eyes and with a shake of his head and feeling much more light went to actually eating an enjoying his food.
Without the distraction of his thoughts and worries about your absence he could admit it was much easier. Certainly, there was always the mystery girl in his mind and her signing that he couldn't get over much as he tried but it wasn't as if he could do anything about it anymore. Miracles didn't happen and it was already very close to that that you had agreed to spend your break with him like in a date, alright he hoped it was like that and that was maybe an even greater miracle than finding the owner of the voice. He couldn't just walk around the town looking for her nor could sit here and expect her to start singing out of nowh-
His thoughts – and he was pretty sure, breathing and entire fuctioning-like-a-human-being – came to a startling halt when he heard it. First a very low murmur but then sure some words, a tune, lyrics to a song with a voice and tone he recognized all too well... he realized like a fool from two places. The mountain and this very cafe.
Slowly but also with a sort of giddiness he couldn't explain, he turned in his seat to look behind him in the direction from which the singing was coming from and he wasn't surprised, only because he really felt in shock anymore, to realize that it was coming from your direction and even more specifically from you. You were singing and you were singing that very same song in the very same way as you were cleaning the table after the couple had left.
“Never enough”
Well, maybe miracles did happen.

I was up before Sam which almost never happens, but I was determined to get coffee and muffins to take over to Y/N and ask her if she wanted to come with us to Montana. Walking up to her door, I kept reminding myself to take deep breaths and not act like an idiot. I knocked on the door and I heard a faint “Come in.” Slowly pushing the door open, I see Y/N folding her clothes to pack into her suitcase. She had her hair up in a ponytail, with jeans and a hoodie on and I couldn’t help but smile when she looked up at me.
“Hey Winchester.”
“Hey!” That sounded too eager, tone it down, Dean… I cleared my throat and continued. “Do you always leave your door open for people to just walk in? That’s not very safe.”
“I just forgot to lock it this morning after I got back from the ice machine. I figured it was you or Sam knocking, but I have this bad boy ready just in case.” She reached over the bed to her nightstand and held up a large knife.”
“That’s not going to do much good if someone were to barge in here with a gun.”
Y/N raised her eyebrow at me with a doubting look on her face which made my heart jump a little. “Most of the time, bringing a knife to a gun fight is a bad idea. But most people aren’t me.” She spun the knife in her hand and set it down on the bed next to her.
“Whatever you say, sweetheart.” I teased and held up a small brown bag with blueberry muffins inside. “I brought you some breakfast.” My gesture was interrupted by the bag being ripped from my hands and pinned to wall just behind me with a knife. It took a second to process what just happened. “Did… Did you just throw a knife at me?” Maybe I should be concerned, but more than anything I’m beyond impressed and a little turned on.
Y/N sent a devious smile my way as she walked over and pulled the knife from the wall, catching the bag before it fell to the ground. “You sounded like you were doubtful of my knife skills so I figured I’d prove it to you.” She stuck the knife in the back of her belt and opened the bag, pulling out a muffin. “Oh, blueberry! My favorite!” How this girl can go from terrifying one second to completely adorable in the next is beyond me, but I can’t get enough of it.
I sit on the bed and she joins me, pulling her feet up and sitting cross legged by my side. “So, you got any plans after this?” I ask as she pulls a muffin from the bag and hands it to me.
“No, I don’t think so. Find a case somewhere close by, I guess?”
“Well Sam and I found one in Montana if you want in. We can always use the backup.”
Y/N’s smile fades as she pops the last bite in her mouth.
“I would love to, but I don’t know if I can…”
My heart sinks. “How come?”
“My stupid piece of crap car can barely make it fifty miles without over-heating. The trip here really did a number on it and I don’t know that it would make it all the way to Montana.”
“Well, lucky for you, I know a great mechanic.” I wink at her and dust the crumbs off my lap. “I’m good with cars. I fix my baby up all the time and keep her running like new. Let me take a look at your piece of crap and see what I can do.”
“Wow, a personal compass and mechanic who brings me breakfast first thing in the morning. What am I supposed to do without you, Dean Winchester?” I knew Y/N was joking, but all I wanted was to tell her that she never had to be without me.
“I’ll tell Sam to get a head start and scope the case out. I’ll stay here with you and fix up your car and we can meet him there. Deal?”
“Dean, you don’t need to do that.”
“I want to.”
Y/N looked skeptically at me, so I reached over and grabbed her hand, squeezing it for reassurance.
“Thank you.” She said softly.
All I wanted to do was lean in and kiss her and it took everything in me to stop myself.
“I’m going to go update Sam. Be back in a sec.”
After giving Sam the low down, I met Y/N at her car. It was a simple jeep, nothing too complicated and I figured it would be an easy fix.
“You wanna pop the hood?” I instructed. She got in the car and pulled a lever. I pulled the hood up and began looking. It only took a few minutes to find a large crack in her water pump.
“Figured it out.” I said as I shut the hood. “Your water pump is busted. Let’s take her to that auto parts store a few blocks down and I’ll have her up and running in no time.”
“My knight in grungy plaid!” She joked as she walked to the passenger side door, which I opened for her before hopping in the driver’s side.
Y/N walked across the street to the gas station and bought some snacks and drinks while I quickly changed the pump, then we headed out on the road. Sam had only left a few hours before us and I sent him a quick text letting him know that we were on our way.
We were looking at a fifteen hour drive ahead of us, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t excited to get to know Y/N more.
“So, where’d you learn to throw knives like that?” I asked.
“Well, that’s kind of a long story.” She muttered as she shuffled through CDs, looking for one to pop in.
“We have time.” I was genuinely interested in knowing everything about her. I would sit in this stupid car for a whole week if it meant I got to be with Y/N.
I knew she could sense my sincerity and tried to repress a smile as she looked at the floor. “Well, you remember me telling you that my family died when I was little?” I nodded. “I kind of bounced around between hunters who raised me and taught me the ropes. I never really stayed with anyone for that long, though. Bobby kept me the most. I’m sure I was a burden on him, but he’s the only one who didn’t make me feel like I was, and I love him for that. But I always wanted to feel like I belonged with someone, you know? Like I just wanted to stick with one person and not have them dump me off with the next hunter who was free to look after me. I quickly learned that the more useful I was on hunts, the longer I’d stay with someone, so I decided that I’d learn how to throw knives. Bobby gave me this little guy,” she reached down and opened the glove compartment, pulling out a decent sized pocketknife, “and I practiced in every free minute I had. Eventually, I upgraded to bigger and better weapons, but this one holds a place in my heart.” She folded the knife back up and put it away. “Anyway, long story short, I got pretty good at throwing pointy things.” She chuckled.
“Did you ever get to stick with someone?”
She pursed her lips. “Not really, no. Once I was an asset on hunts, people would keep me around for longer, but never permanently. When I turned sixteen, Bobby set me up with one of his old cars and I went out on my own.”
I couldn’t fathom how anyone in their right mind wouldn’t want this amazing person around. “I’m sorry.” I shot her a sympathetic side smile.
“You don’t need to be.” I was surprised at her response. “People tell me all the time that I had a crappy childhood, but I didn’t know any different. I learned a long time ago that I can’t let myself feel deprived or angry about the past because that doesn’t help with anything. There’s enough bad that we deal with in our lives and I’m not going to make it worse by throwing a pity party for myself.” She cleared her throat and quickly shook her head, bringing a smile back on her face and changing her tone of voice instantly as she reached into the shopping bag full of treats. “Jerky or ding-dongs?” She asked.
“Jerky. I’ll leave the chocolate for you.” I remembered our conversation from the diner, how she told me she had a big sweet tooth.
“Good answer.” She beamed.
“So, your family,” I started between bites, “what were they like?”
“From what I remember, they were wonderful.” Y/N gave a sweet smile and reminisced as she gazed out the front window. “I was six when they died, so I don’t remember a lot, but I do remember my mom being patient and loving and my dad could make me laugh even on the worst days. I had 4 older brothers who were very protective. I looked up to them a lot. I’ve got some pictures at Bobby’s place. I’ll have to show you someday.”
“I’d love that.”
When Y/N showed me this side of her, it was hard to picture her as a hunter, even though I had seen firsthand how badass she could be. She seemed so vulnerable and kind, and I couldn’t understand how she could be so genuine after what she went through. I hated that she never had a true place of her own, and I wanted to tell her she had found one with me. It had only been a day and a half, but I couldn’t picture the future without this girl by my side. I wanted to tell her that, but how do I say something like that without coming off like an obsessed crazy man?
Y/N asked about my life, and I filled her in on everything. Our mom dying, our dad dying, me going to hell, and even things about myself that I wouldn’t tell Sam. I trusted her. Hours had passed and we had to stop for gas. It was getting late, and she volunteered to drive so I could shut my eyes. She had a blanket in the back seat that she gave to me and I wadded it up to use as a shield between me and the cold window.
Y/N played some music but turned it down low so she wouldn’t wake me. She must have thought I was already asleep and began to softly sing along to Love of My Life by Queen. I kept my eyes closed tight and listened to her, hanging onto every word.
You will remember
When this is blown over
And everything’s all by the way
When I grow older
I will be there at your side to remind you
How I still love you
As she sang those words, my head flooded with pictures of the two of us sitting on the porch of a small secluded house, watching our kids play in the front yard with a big old dog. I had never pictured a future like this for myself, but the minute I met Y/N, I felt a new door open for me. I had always thought that I would die young in a blaze of glory, but now all I wanted was to get out of the hunting life and live a simple one. Maybe not today or anytime soon, but someday. Was it crazy that I felt like this after knowing her for barely two days? Yes. Did I care? No.
My life had very few moments where I felt completely at peace and content, but this was one. One that I would remember every day, and the one that made me realize that I was one hundred percent head-over-heels in love with this girl.
Sam had already spoken with the police and the families of the victims by the time we got there. We quickly figured out who the wolf was and had him taken care of by the end of the day. We made a good team. I convinced Sam and Y/N that we should celebrate at the local bar, and the three of us were sitting at a table. Y/N volunteered to buy the next round and left her chair to go get it.
“So…” Sam started as I watched Y/N joking with the bartender. “You gonna tell her?”
“Tell her what?”
“That you like her, or whatever.”
“We’re not in high school, Sam.”
“Okay, fine. I just mean, I’ve never seen you like this before, and you need to make up your mind. We’re done with this case and she’s taking off in the morning if you don’t do something.”
I sighed and played with the label on my beer bottle. “I know…”
“I think we make a good team, the three of us.” Sam added. “Why don’t you, invite her to come hunt with us for a while?”
I looked at him skeptically. “You’d be okay with that?”
“Dean, she’s one of the best hunter’s I’ve ever seen, she actually helps with research, she’s fun, and you’re much more tolerable to be around when she’s with you.”
“Yeah, okay. I’ll ask her tonight.”
YOUR POV
You, Sam and Dean had been having the time of your lives at that bar. You couldn’t remember the last time you had ever felt like you fit in with anyone like this. Sam was so easy to get along with. You teased him, he teased you, and you both teamed up to tease Dean. He felt like a brother to you. Dean, on the other hand, was so caring and interested in you like no one had ever been before. You had been fighting back strong feelings for him since you had first met him just two days prior; feelings so strong that they scared you. You had heard stories about him from Bobby and other hunters about how he would reel women in, use them, and leave them, so you left your guard up a little. But you had a hard time believing he was that kind of a person. For some reason, you trusted him like you had known him your whole life and it was rare that you trusted anyone at all.
Sam was telling a story about the food Dean used to try and cook for them at motels when they were kids and couldn’t get through a sentence without splitting his side from laughter, which, in turn, made you and Dean belly laugh as well. The ringtone of your phone broke through the cackles and you pulled it from your pocket. You excused yourself and stood up from the table, walking outside where you could hear better.
“Hello?”
“Hey, Y/N, it’s Mitch”
“Wow, hey Mitch. It’s been a long time. Everything okay?” You had worked a few cases with Mitch in the past few years. He was a decent hunter. Young, like you, so you got along with him better than older hunters who looked down on you.
“I’ve got a case in Idaho that I can’t seem to figure out. You free?”
“You’re in luck. I just finished up something in Montana. Text me your address and I’ll be there tomorrow.”
“Thanks, I owe you one.”
You walk back in the bar, disappointed that you have to leave the fun. Dean smiles the second he sees you come back inside. You sat down next to him and he put his arm on the back of your chair.
“I thought you ran away, sweetheart.”
“I figured you could foot the bill.” You teased. “No, I actually got a call from a hunter in Idaho needing some help, so I think I’ve gotta call it a night and find a motel to crash at. I told him I’d be there tomorrow.”
Dean’s face dropped as you pulled out your wallet and set some money on the table. Sam gave Dean a knowing look which you caught. As you pulled on your jacket, Dean grabbed your arm softly.
“Wait, Y/N. Uhm, Sam and I were talking, and we’d love it if you’d let us stick with you for a while. If you’re okay with that, that is…”
You couldn’t fight the smile that crept up on your face. “You guys want to come with me?” Sam and Dean both nodded. “Well come on then. Let’s go get some sleep.”
The boys popped up, paid their part of the bill and Dean put his hand at the small of your back as you walked out, trailing Sam. Once you were outside, he moved his hand to grab yours, lacing his fingers between yours, which took you by surprise. “Is this okay?” He asked. Your heart was fluttering and your stomach doing flips. You nodded and smiled, squeezing his hand in response.

fic: let’s not try to figure out everything at once
post-15x20 read on ao3 instead
“Come on, Sammy,” Dean says with a smile. “Let me buy you dinner.”
*
Just like on earth, Dean’s idea of a nice date is flicking a fake credit card at Sam, rattling off his food order, and waiting in the car.
Sam bounces back down the little roadside diner steps with a plastic bag stretched heavy with food.
“Hey,” he says through the open passenger window, startling Dean’s hand away from the tape deck. “Remember Three Rocks?”
He opens the door as Dean screws up his face and asks, “What, like Oregon?”
“Yeah.” Sam gets his legs in and Dean starts the engine. “Spring Equinox. You got hexed, and we didn’t figure it out until you started to hoard like… cornflower and cinnamon sticks and shit?”
That’s the nicest, shortest way to tell the story. Dean snorts.
“Of course I remember that,” he says. “Friggin’ fertility witches, man.”
Sam laughs again, because Dean’s foibles with the dark arts always tickle him.
“Remember how it made you go crazy?” he presses. For three long days, Dean oscillated between hoarding, sweating, and acting like a prickly pear around everyone who wasn’t Sam. That’s why it took them so long to notice -- it wasn’t until late on day three that Dean started with the stockpiling. “Well, the waiter you wanted to knock out is the one who just served me your pie.”
Dean scoffs and starts eyeing the bag. “Everyone has bad days, man. What do you want me to do about it now?”
“Well next time, you can go in, for starters.” Sam punctuates his request by throwing the credit card back at Dean. “And they didn’t have any cherry left.”
As Dean catches the card with a hand slap to the chest, he also leans over to curiously peer into the bag. “What’d you get me?”
“Apple.” Sam reaches back for his seatbelt, even though there probably aren’t any car accidents or speed traps in Heaven. He catches the sudden weird look on Dean’s face and raises an eyebrow. “What?”
Dean’s eyes go all squinty into the distance as he tries to figure something out.
“Why is the place where I threatened to knock some guy out up here in Heaven?” he wonders, gaze suddenly snapping over to Sam. They make direct eye contact, and Sam feels his face get hot when Dean starts smirking. “Something you want to tell me, man?”
Sam snorts, overcompensates, realizes it, and then tries to play it off with a casual, “Like what?”
“Like,” Dean dramatically announces, raising both eyebrows. “Maybe you got all tingly when I defended your honor, and now you want to relieve that memory again and again and again?”
Even though Sam knows he’s all twitchy, he tightens his expression and plows through.
“Keep dreaming, man.” He shakes his head and snorts again, but when he glances over, Dean is still staring at him with that look on his face. Sam clears his throat and quickly changes the subject. “Can we just find somewhere to park for the night?”
Dean’s expression softens from I’m calling you out to I’m reaping the benefits.
“You got it, Sammy,” he grins, officially letting Sam off the hook.
They pull out of the tiny parking lot, and Dean stretches his arm out along the back of the seat, fingers curling to rest against Sam’s shoulder.
Sam cranks his window down. It’s a perfectly balmy midsummer night, even though they haven’t been up here for a whole day yet, and they both died in winter.
As they get back on the highway, Dean knocks his fingers into the back of Sam’s ear.
Sam bites back a smile.
*
The highway runs up the coast, and then out onto a peninsula that hangs over the water.
Sam knows they aren’t earthbound anymore, but the blue ocean and the tall trees are all unmistakably redwood country. They bomb down the peninsula with Dean’s favorite mixtape playing. There’s nothing out here but dusky blue skies and deep blue water.
“It’s kinda like driving right into space,” Sam comments. “But like, uncanny valley.”
Dean parks the car near the end of the road and turns off the ignition. “I wonder who controls the scenery, me or you.”
“Maybe both of us?” Sam raises his eyebrows. “We’ve been in all the same places.”
With a shrug, Dean digs into their takeout bag, and pulls out his gigantic burger in a double-wide styrofoam container that buckles when he tries to hold it one handed.
“I don’t know, man,” he says, briefly glancing over at Sam. Sam stares back, and then drops his gaze to watch as Dean flips his container open and lifts the top bun off his burger to remove the pickle. “You got me extra sauce,” he gasps, picking up the drippy, shitty burger with both hands. “Have I told you I love you lately?”
Smiling, Sam shakes his head slowly, and unwraps his ever reasonable sandwich.
“About thirty years ago.” Sam takes Dean’s pickle slice and adds, “Once.”
The smile on Dean’s face is big and bright. A thousand megawatts lit up, brighter than anything else even in Heaven.
“Well, I love ya, Sammy,” he says, fondly.
*
The stars come out, and all of the little adobe houses sprinkled up the coastline turn their lights on.
“We could find a motel,” Dean suggests, gaze fixed out on the water.
Sam turns away from Dean and looks at all the houses scattered away from them.
“Nah.” Sam wrinkles up his nose. Dean wrinkles his back. “I wanna sleep here.”
On earth, every new day had possibility -- kismet, and advent, and Dean. The comfort in knowing they were only separated by death is what kept Sam alive some days; he knew this, that he would be here again, whether it happened under the stars or in hellfire.
When Sam got into bed on the mattress Dean never laid on, in the big house Dean never lived in, he would close his eyes and sink away. Just so he could see stars, like these stars, and be here again.
Small, lonely celebrations. They can find a motel to sleep in tomorrow night.
The houses up the coastline glow for a little while longer. Sam lays on the hood and stares up at the sky.
*
“Catch,” Dean says, tossing Sam’s toothbrush into the air.
They keep looking at each other, grinning and laughing as they stand on the bluff and spit toothpaste off the rocks.
“Mine definitely went further than yours, Dean.” Sam is both eternally Player 2 and the one who makes the call. He points out into the dark black water like he can pinpoint exactly where his last one hit and gives Dean a smug look. “Beat that.”
Dean imitates him in a wobbly high-pitched voice, “Mine went further than yours,” and then loses interest in going for distance and turns to spit at Sam instead. Sam can tell he’s going to do it by the look on his face, so he laughs and jumps away right as Dean loads up and aims for his feet.
As he bounces by, he smacks Dean in the chest.
“Don’t swallow,” Sam unhelpfully cackles when Dean starts choking on his toothpaste.
Dean bends over, gagging and spitting, and even with tears in his eyes he still shoots a dirty look in Sam’s direction and smirks, “Why I don’t think I’ve ever heard you say that before, Sammy.”
“Shut up.” Sam laughs some more and goes back to angling his toothbrush over his back molars. “You know, I didn’t miss your sex jokes.”
He actually missed everything, but that’s nothing Dean has to know about.
Even so -- Dean looks scandalized for the first time since Sam has been topside. “I’m the funniest person you know.”
“You’re the only person I know,” Sam counters.
He knows he screwed up last time they were in Heaven. There wasn’t a day that went by where he didn’t think about Dean’s hurt expression lit up in those streetlights.
Dean looks like he wants to say something, too. They stare at each other as Dean clearly works out whether he’s going to cop to whatever it is, or keep it to himself for a while.
“About that,” he finally starts, hedging. Sam raises his eyebrows. “We’re not alone up here anymore.”
Sam gives him a look. “That’s cryptic, Carol Anne.”
“I was here for about a minute before Bobby found me, man,” Dean explains. Sam’s eyebrows knot; that actually is a surprise. “Well, I guess I found him.” Dean pauses to reconsider, clearly still trying to figure out his train of thought. “He gave me a beer.”
Still not totally following, Sam asks, “What, like a memory?”
“No, not a memory.” Dean shakes his head. “Bobby told me Heaven is different now. Jack busted all the walls down.”
Both of Sam’s eyebrows jerk up. “Seriously?”
“That’s what he said.” Dean shrugs. “Mom and dad, Rufus, Ellen.” He dramatically twirls his toothbrush around in a circular motion. “Everyone. They’re all around here somewhere.”
So even with the walls down, he and Dean are still stepping in the same footprint.
“Wow.” Sam smiles a little. “So it’s like, fairytale Heaven now.”
Dean shrugs and digs around in his toiletry bag. “Guess so.”
“So… what.” It’s not like Dean was ever a social butterfly, but… Sam watches as he packs his toothbrush away, and looks at him curiously. “You didn’t go and see mom? And dad?”
They stare at each other for a minute, and Dean gets shifty.
“I just drove around until you got here,” he finally shrugs, playing it cool.
Which really means he’s circling the drain and acting all bugged out, because that’s how Dean always gets when he has to admit he has feelings for Sam in a way that doesn’t include suicide or the death of whoever else gets stuck in their crosshair.
And Sam doesn’t help, because he starts to crack up in a truly uncontrollable way.
“Moment ruined,” Dean scoffs, throwing one hand up.
He turns back around to face the car, and Sam scrambles after him, still laughing.
“I’m sorry,” he calls, voice coming out all lopsided when he tries to swallow another laugh. “I’m sorry, Dean. Hey.” He reaches out and snags Dean by the back of the jacket; Dean spins around and glares at him. “Hey,” Sam says again, serious this time. He clears his throat and raises his eyebrows earnestly. “I would have done the same thing.”
Dean is still glaring up at him but he does let Sam get in a hug.
“You wouldn’t have had the wheels to do so,” he says petulantly.
Sam smiles and tilts his nose into Dean’s ear. “Guess I would have been waiting for you at the side of the road, then.”
“Yeah, sounds like something you would do,” Dean crabs back.
But under Sam’s jacket, he worms his fingers around until he finds Sam’s waist.
“I was scared I would wake up in the dark.” Sam finally admits it, quietly, into the soft collar of Dean’s flannel shirt. “I memorized a druidic memory spell. Just in case.”
Dean snorts, but his grip on Sam tightens, as well. He whispers, “I would have found ya.”
“Yeah.” Neither of them moves an inch. “I know that.”
