Prompts used in this chapter: feast - miracle
It’s Christmas! For Sherlock that is, and we all know what that entails…
December 22
John feels like a new man the next morning. Sherlock’s massage the night before had been divine to say the least, and all his silly worries dissipated. When he was nothing more than a boneless mass, filled to the brim with serenity and love for his sweetheart, John had confessed.
“I just had doubts about a gift, and I know it’s utterly idiotic to almost go into a depressive state, but…”
Sherlock put his finger to John’s lips and shook his head.
“Let it be a surprise, and I promise I’ll try not to deduce it. I’m not particularly fond of seeing you out of sorts like this, and I’m glad it’s over,” Sherlock said seriously, which made John’s heart clench.
Sherlock had really been worried about him, but hadn’t pestered him too much about it, but found his own way to let John come clean on his own.
“My genius,” John murmured and kissed said genius thoroughly.
***
Just after noon, John and Sherlock found themselves deeply preoccupied with a double murder in a luxury suite at The Hand & Flower Hotel in Hammersmith. It’s a small Victorian boutique hotel with only eight rooms. The downstairs pub had been filled with cheerful patrons the night before, making the list of suspects to questioned quite extensive. Luckily Lestrade took care of that while Sherlock surveyed the crime scene.
It was a horrible sight that met them, and both John and Sherlock had a grim look on their faces when they realised what had happened. In the middle of the king size bed, two naked men where embracing. If one didn’t look too closely it could seem that they were just sleeping, but the stiffness of their bodies and the foam around their mouths told another story.
“Poisoning,” they murmured in unison.
Before Sherlock got to work, he grabbed John’s hand and squeezed it hard. John looked at him, nodded and squeezed back equally hard.
***
Friends and family of the victims weren’t aware that they were having a love affair. Both men were married. To women. Delicacy was required and Lestrade was reluctant to let Sherlock question the wives.
“Well, if you don’t want to increase your solution rate, it’s hardly my problem,” Sherlock told Greg, and beckoned John to come with him to leave the Yarders alone.
They had reached the kerb when the small and unexpected miracle occurred. John heard Sally quarrel with Greg, and to John’s astonishment she was the one who wanted Greg to call Sherlock back.
“I’ll be damned,” John whispered to Sherlock who just smirked and winked at John.
***
In the cab ride home, they decided to treat themselves to a feast of Chinese take-away. It didn’t take Sherlock’s remarkable brain to suspect that one or both wives were the culprits, but it was only he that was able to shatter their alibies to pieces.
“Christmas came early for you this year, my love,” John whispered when their Chinese feast was devoured, and they were cuddled up on the sofa.
“A bit not good, John,” Sherlock murmured before he made an impressive love mark on John’s neck.

Sherlock: I have the sharpest memory! Name one time I forgot something.
Anderson: You left me and Donovan in a Walmart parking lot like, three weeks ago.
Sherlock: Nope, I did that on purpose, try again!

@maryholmes94 and @aveline-amelia if you don't mind I prefer to keep our discussion here, because I feel like we took over the other thread with unrelated discussions way too much already ;)
@maryholmes94 please tag me when you post about the antagonistic figures in Sherlock! I'm looking forward to reading it :)
You said you disagreed about what I said about Mary. I also think myself it wasn't pulled under the rug the same way John's violence towards Sherlock was (if that's what you meant), but I still think something was missing in the way her situation was treated by the writers. I'm of course interested in your thoughts!
@aveline-amelia I agree Sally was never a villain, but she was still an antagonist in the strict sense of the word. She isn't a bad person, but she's definitely not Sherlock's ally. I agree about her use of the term 'freak'. I reckon that if the show was written in 2023 she would call him something else, but back in 2021 it was very commun to use "freak" as an insult against anyone who thought out of the box and didn't have good social skills. Not saying this to excuse the writers, but for having been called 'freak' a shit ton of times in the early 00s only because I was different, I think it's more a reflection of the time in which the show was written, than of the character's opinion that Sherlock had a mental illness.
I TOTALLY agree about Greg Lestrade! Pointing Sherlock as a mastermind criminal was a team effort: Moriarty implanted the idea, Sally and Philip thought they finally had a proof of what they always suspected about Sherlock, but Greg listened to them and along with his superior, decided he could be guilty. We see a couple of newspapers pointing at the cops for being wrong about Sherlock's guilt, but... That's it? Sherlock and Greg act as if nothing happened, while idk..... Maybe a "sorry I thought you kidnapped two children and fed them with poison while you were my friend" would have been nice :/
Yep, Wiggins had potential. In a board game I have, Sherlock trained him to be a detective and gives him and his team of street kids some of his cases to solve. It's said John didn't have much faith in him but Sherlock saw his potential. They could have given him a similar arc in Sherlock, instead they hinted at his deduction skills but finally turned him into.... I don't even know what Wiggins was for Sherlock in TLD. His sitter?

Beyond Recognition
Sally had been there when it happened. She'd seen it with her own eyes, and she still couldn't believe it. They were in the flat of the suspect, who wasn't even a suspect before the Freak somehow deduced that he was the only one with motive and means. He had texted Lestrade the outcome of his investigation, oh wonder, and the location to meet. Lestrade had taken Sally and some police officers and now they were standing here. Well, Sally was standing here. The other officers were searching the flat for evidence and Greg was talking with John and Sherlock. Sally stood there and wondered, how Sherlock was able to solve a case in three days, that a whole team from the yard could not.
Suddenly, the front door opened and a man stood in the living room. He was tall, fit, and dressed in trainers and a plain shirt, and he was definitely surprised by what he found in his flat. And he definitely didn't like it. He turned to run but Dr Watson, who was closest to the door, threw himself on the man to prevent his escape. It all happened in mere seconds. First, the former army doctor was pinning the suspect down, the next moment he gave a pained cry and the other man struggled back to his feet. Sally saw the jolt that went through Sherlocks body and she expected him to lunge on the suspect, to put on a chase how he was so fond of doing. But instead he went pale and rushed towards John, threw himself to his knees next to him. “John!” His voice was urgent and worried, nearly anxious, and he grabbed Johns body and helped him to lean against the wall. He knelt before him and grabbed his shoulders. “John, deep breath, take a deep breath, can you look at me?” Than Sally saw it. There was a knife, stabbed into the Doctor's thigh. She gasped. Out of the corners of her eyes she could see some officers running behind the suspect, but she couldn't turn her gaze from the scene in front of her. The slower the Doctor blinked, the more frantic the voice of the detective became. Sally couldn't help but stare, frozen in shock and disbelief. He was out of his bloody mind. Sherlock was out of his mind with worry. With worry for John Watson. Sally couldn't see the man who was standing there only moments before. This wasn't Sherlock Holmes, the cold and rude freak, who didn't care for anyone but himself and barely said a pleasant word to anyone. He was beyond recognition, shaking with worry for his friend, whispering to him not to fall asleep, to stay with him, to be brave. He held the man, held him steady, stroked him reassuringly and told him how good he was doing, that help was on the way, how strong he was. “John, stay awake, please. Look at me, just look at me. What should I ever do without you? Do you realise that I'm nothing without you? You do know that, do you? Silly question, of course you know. Look what you do to me, I'm asking silly questions. We have to talk about this later I presume. John, John!” Sally saw the Doctor's eyes close and his head rolling slightly to the side. “John? No... no, no, no, no, no.... Come on John, don't give up!” He lowered the limp body to the floor, pressed a finger to his pulse and checked his breathing. He seemed a bit relieved, but it wasn't doing too much to calm him down. He turned his head over his shoulder and shouted: “Where is the ambulance? What's taking them so long?!” Greg, who seemed as shocked as Sally, answered in a distant tone: “They're on their way. Won't take long.” Sherlock scoffed and turned to John again. He crouched down beside him and stroked his chest. Sally could see his eyes, blown wide and red as if he would start to cry any second. He was pale, even more than usual, and his hands were trembling. His entire body was actually shaking. He continued to speak to John, directly into his ear, so Sally couldn't hear any of it, but she could hear the gentle tone the rapid flow of words was spoken in. Eventually the medics arrived and surrounded the man lying unconscious on the floor. Another man in a neon jacked entered the room and gestured them all to leave, to ensure an undisturbed initial care of John Watson.
Sally obeyed, slowly leaving the room on slightly unsteady limbs. The last thing Sally could see, was Sherlock, holding John's left hand in both of his, holding him gently, not allowing anything to come between them.

A poster I did for my fic like a year ago!
First chapter of Your fear is my obsession is now up!
Summary: Greg is a teenager with a difficult childhood. He has no mother, only a father who doesn't care about him and his little sister, whom the young man looks after, and a cruel stepmother, whom he dreams of getting rid of so that everything would be as it was before. This possibility begins to seem real when he learns about his rich uncle, who invites his family and friends to stay at his place.
I started writing this work a year ago. It was completely my friend's @localgatiss idea, I just added some point to make it work. As I started it, it seemed impossible to finish it, so I just didn't. I wrote about 11k words and I was halfway done, but now, as reading it, I knew I had to rewrite it properly, so now the first chapter is almost as long as the first variation of a half story.
Hope you enjoy!

Sally Donovan is the outspoken, ballsy, youngest-ever editor of the UK's only left-leaning tabloid, The Yardstick. Anthea Doyle is the ex-activist Labour Home Secretary who's just ruined her reputation with a string of Tory-light policies in the run up to an election. Worse, Anthea's permanent secretary, Mycroft, has suddenly become extremely loose-lipped around Sally's star reporter, Greg. Now Sally's out for blood, Anthea's staring down the barrel of a reshuffle, and both of them are about to discover that first impressions are often misleading.

This is the moment to take notes for the next one. Because by the time December rolls round again, the precise things that went wrong (or indeed right) will have dimmed, and we're liable to slip into the same old ruts, whether that's overly optimistic takes on which relatives/friends can stand to be seated next to each other, or things about our own practical and emotional limits, and what needs to change about how we do Christmas to stop them being exceeded...
