with all this gotham war stuff (most recently the comic sc you posted on your twt with jason and bruce), can u explain what is actually going on? like, i’m not that far so i haven’t read it, but… like is it actually bruce saying all that stuff about the kids? or is it this zur person people keep talking about?

oh my friend, it's crazy around here, but i will try my best to explain it!

A GUIDE TO UNDERSTANDING WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING TO BATMAN IN GOTHAM WAR:

secondly... who is Zur En Arrh.

Zur En Arrh taking over Bruce, Batman (2016) #126

zur en arrh, in the simplest way of explaining, is this alter ego/personality (it's unclear) bruce created for himself should batman (bruce wayne) ever be psychologically compromised or brainwashed. it's not him, but a more sadistic and crueler person that is the "ultimate batman" who doesn't care about anyone or anything but getting the mission done.

during Batman #125-130, zur takes over the role of batman because bruce was losing very badly to the robot Failsafe (which is zur's own creation, that bruce has no memory of making). after getting vaporised by failsafe and sent travelling through dozens of alternate universes, losing his hand and fighting a flying shark (Batman #131-135), bruce returns to gotham incredibly mentally unstable.

During a peaceful dinner with his family, Bruce suddenly imagines the entire world on fire, Batman (2016) #136.

during everything, bruce managed to mentally fight back and kind of... merge their ideals together in order to survive and win in the moment.

and then successfully trapping failsafe back into his mind where he can no longer take over!

Bruce uses some sort of mental technique to lock Zur away in his mind, Batman (2016) #136.

except he didn't succeed! at all!

you see, when travelling through all those universes, bruce somehow brought back every single version of zur en arrh with him. now all of then combined, plus his already deteriorating and weak mental health from the last few years, bruce is currently operating under the impression that he's locked zur away, when he actually hasn't.

zur is the one partly, or even entirely, in control. right now, he's just pretending to stay locked away so bruce continues to do what he thinks is 'right' despite them being incredibly out of character for the run.

During his eight week coma, Bruce sees Zur 'locked away' and he is, apparently, not alone, Gotham War: Battle Lines (2023)

an example is when zur referred to robin as batman's solider, bruce mentally fought back to make it clear that tim was his son. but then, a few issues later, bruce refers to his children as his soldiers and that they've all betrayed him, implying that zur has always had control and isn't locked away.

Bruce and Zur get into a fight inside his mind about Robin [Tim Drake], Batman (2016) #127

so yeah, zur is not bruce! they're both batman, but zur en arrh is like his somehow unimaginably even worse twin. if you're interested more in him, i would suggest giving his character history a read! be warned it gets changed A LOT and is definitely not everyone's cup of tea (personally i hate him and need him shelved for another forty years).

now that that's all done and explained, the current state of gotham war is Bruce (thinks he's okay) fighting everyone else (except Damian) because in his (Zur's) point of view, they're all against the mission and therefore are now his enemies (he's lost his mind). totally not convoluted.

to answer your original question, yes, this is all bruce saying and doing these things but he is being HEAVILY influenced by Zur. we can't tell for certain how much of this is bruce and how much is zur, but we can definitely prove zur is partially or completely controlling him again.

even jason points it out after bruce implants that fear toxin chip into him in Batman (2016) #138:

like we can see the intention is to keep jason out of this, because compared to everyone else, jason was the most directly opposed to bruce. but zur is twisting how this concern gets expressed, since forcing jason into feeling fear everytime he gets an adrenaline rush is hardly the reformation bruce is usually encouraging. the other batfam members also talk about how uncharacteristically violent bruce is being.

"He's out of control." / "He's gone [In more ways than one.]" Batman (2016) #137

as the story progresses we see more and more of zur replace bruce, but because he can't have bruce trying to stop him again, zur is playing along and convincing bruce he's locked away. so really, bruce is at war with not only his entire family, but also his own mind. just another average tuesday for batman. he's being tricked and is unknowingly doing exactly what he was trying to prevent.

to understand what the actual war in gotham war is, give the comics listed above a read! if you find the story boring/ridiculous/stupid, don't worry, it is! the social commentary leaves a lot to be desired, as does most of the characters writings (especially selina's).

bruce and his one sided battle with zur is sort of an overarching story happening alongside it (along with a bunch of other ongoings. i don't even understand how detective comics and batman and robin are going to tie into this once it starts up again).

sorry the answer isn't a simple one, but unfortunately nothing is ever simple with bruce. also apologies in advance if any of the future gotham war comics come out and completely debunk all of this! who knows what will happen in this dramatic family drama.

Yes very much actually. I think Emu would be really shy romantically, but while I can see Saki being a menace most other times, seeing Emu being a flustered mess will make HER a flustered mess. So they're both even pinker holding hands.

Idk who would kiss first, Saki like, holding Emu's cheeks and being all nervous like "can I kiss you?" Or Emu going "AAHHHHH" and gay panicking into giving Saki a small peck.

YOU ABSOLUTELY CAN I LOVE POLY/NEED and also technically did this once but I love them so much that I'll do this so many times

Saki was always the one advocating for living life to the fullest, and to her, that meant asking out her best friends almost as soon as she realized that she had romantic feelings for them.

Honami knew she had those same feelings for them all, but never knew how to put them into the right words. She always thought she had to choose between them, hurting the others.

Shiho and Ichika didn’t even realize that was how they felt until Saki and Honami pointed it out to them. It was kind of funny to watch them fully realize what was happening.

They talked a lot about what dating would mean for them, especially since they were four people dating instead of two. It would take a lot of compromising and communication, but they felt it could work!

Between group dates and smaller dates, they would be able to get comfortable with dating, and they all loved each other so much already that it felt like everything would be even better from that point on.

-Saki is super outgoing and excitable still. She will spread rumors that she's created if someone gets you down or tries to mess with you all while she has a sweet smile on her face as she comforts you.

-Nobody is allowed to be rude to you and somehow.. she always knows when someone is being rude even when she's not with you. There always seems to be a rumor about them and then they seem to stop bothering you after that. Weird..

-You're safe from all the drama, kept away from anyone who was rude to you before. You're not sure why they stay away from you, maybe they hate you? Either way, Saki is the one you can always turn to and know that she won't do anything that'll ever upset you!

-Shiho keeps you close to her at all possible times. She will go as far as intimidating people into staying away from you so that she can keep you to herself. The methods of intimidation... well, they vary heavily depending on who the person might be.

-She hates the fact that people think they can get so close with you and does get jealous fairly easy. She gets protective over you whenever someone tries to touch you or get a bit too close for her liking. Grabbing their wrist or pushing them back to keep them away.

-With such a scary look, Shiho gets a bit softer around you, smiling a little and giving you such soft touches but, she can flip like a light switch. Easily glaring in anyones direction when they come to approach you, getting ready to pull you back away from them.

-Honami is so sweet you don't even think about the possibility that she could be stalking you. She won't act on her feelings but, she does secretly stalk you and hides it surprisingly well.

-She is on the shy side and will stick to watching you from afar, occasionally talking with you when you strike up a conversation with her. Possibly a shy compliment if she can muster up the courage too.

-Honami isn't so much of a peeker as in, she won't stalk you inside your home or anything. You still deserve privacy! While you're out and about though, she does tend to.. discreetly follow you. A picture or two might be taken as she watches you from afar.

-Not the type to get jealous over everyone you hang out with. She doesn't mind it at all, after all, she can't even approach you sometimes. More so, she admires their confidence to go up to someone as amazing as you.

Of course, this means that she notices your constant absences to group meetups. At first, she thinks nothing of it, but eventually grows concerned

The next time she sees you, she asks you what's been going on. Were you alright? Did something happen?

Turns out that something did happen, and she was shocked to find out you had been kicked out for being trans, and that you had to sustain yourself

She was speechless, before she gently grabbed your arm, walking with you. "You should've told me sooner hon, I would've made room for you immediately!"

She asks for you to stay with her until you can get things sorted out. In the time that you spend with her, she gives you lots of hugs and promises that she'll never leave you <3

Saki:

Saki loves nothing more than spending time with the people she loves!

She's definitely the one who brings attention to you constantly missing group meetups. The group always felt so sad without you...

The next time she sees you, she asks if you're doing okay. She knows that the group isn't your main priority in life, but she's just concerned!

She's completely thrown off by the confession that you had been thrown out for being trans and had been sustaining yourself. How could anyone do such a thing?

She sighs, frowning before looking to you, "I'm so sorry that's been happening...Do you maybe want to stay at my house? I promise my family won't mind!"

If you accept her offer, she and the rest of the Tenmas are quick to take you in. They're a wonderful family, and Saki herself will always remind you how loved you are <3

Rui:

If there's one time where Rui can truly be himself without caring about others' thoughts, it's with his group

He notices your absences immediately, and tries to brush them off. A small part of him is scared you want to stop hanging out with him though

When that fear gets to him a bit too much, he asks you about it, eyes wide with anxiety. You weren't another person abandoning him because he was weird...Right?

As it turned out, the truth was much worse: You had been kicked out for being trans, and were currently sustaining yourself

He clicked his tongue, a frown on his face. After a moment of hesitation, he looks to you before holding his hand out, "Stay with me, dearest. Please."

He's actually a very pleasant roommate of sorts to have, and he constantly tends to your needs. He wants you to know that you're wanted and loved with him <3

Mafuyu:

Considering that there are only a few people that Mafuyu can truly be herself around, she cares about her group

This is why she notices your absences, and can't help but feel empty. Did you finally have enough of her?

She sends you a DM about it, calm despite the strange feeling in her chest. Much to her surprise, you had ended up getting kicked out for being trans, and had to sustain yourself

There was a minute of silence from her end, before she simply sent you the message, "Come to my house."

Despite the chance of you seeing how her parents are, she would rather have you close than lost somewhere alone. Whether she would admit it or not, a part of her, the feelings that shine through every now and then, feels complete with you by her side <3

Toya:

Toya hangs out with his group to just let himself go. He doesn't have to care about expectations with the group

That's one of the main reasons he notices your absence. He definitely misses you, but comes to the conclusion that you needed space

He asks you about it randomly, and he's shocked into silence when you confess that you had been kicked out for being trans, and was sustaining for yourself

He watches you with a frown, looking off to the side before placing his hand on your shoulder. "I...I'm sorry you had to go through that. I think I could convince my dad to let you stay over. If you want me to, of course."

If you do stay with him, you get glimpses of the father Toya had told you about. Still, he takes care of you, and thanks you for being in his life for as long as you have been <3

What you mean by" willis todds love for jason is the reason bruce failed him" ?

Sorry ive seen your post and I agree with everything but this just kinda suprise me, not hating, just curiuos

HELLO! so this is a take that is based on pre-new 52 todds, before they were simplified to the one dimensional (and classist) personalities they're known for now. neither of them were shown to be abusive or willfully negligent, but rather found themselves in bad situations out of their control and died, leaving jason to fend for himself.

in the most simplest way what i mean is willis todds self sacrificing actions of turning to crime in order to provide for jason and catherine is the key defining part of jasons life and why he views bruce's love for him as 'not enough'.

(of course, the actual proof of this is like. one single panel and its not even said by jason. however i think it is something that can be found in jasons character through other, less obvious situations.)

in jasons initial (public) return to gotham and that long and convoluted plan to mess around with batman psychology to get the two of them and the joker in the same place, it all seems like a well planned out revenge story until the final conversation:

Batman: Under the Red Hood

it always stood out to me, not just because of how absolutely heart wrenching the entire moment is (definitely read utrh if you haven't, at least once), but because it really gives you an insight into what love and loving someone means to jason.

to him it's an all encompassing responsibility. this idea that love is something that you need to be able to prove by the quantitive value of what you'll sacrifice for it. in this case, jason is saying i love you" in the way he truly believes gets across how much he means it; i would kill the person who hurt you.

whenever i read this part of utrh, another situation immediately pops into my mind. and that's when jason found out two-face had killed willis todd.

Batman #411

upon finding out two-face had killed willis, jason goes on a brief grief filled rampage, swearing he'll kill him for what he did. it's important to note that up until now, jason had assumed willis was still in prison, only to find out he was actually murdered.

again, it's this idea that love is the extremes you'll go to for family. jason was well aware of willis' less than legal means to make money, and even bruce makes a mention of it in.

Batman: A death in the family

i imagine, like a lot of what fuels jason to fight crime now, guilt is a major deciding factor in a lot of his choices. it's this guilt that he feels upon hearing about willis' death that makes him take it out on two-face. it's even guilt that plays a huge factor even in new 52 stories (such as Cheer).

so when he returns to gotham, or even before that, just hearing about what bruce had done following his death (locking the joker up instead of killing him, taking in tim as his robin) were, to him, clear evidence that he did not love jason in any way that mattered. that bruce did not love jason as much as jason loved him.

because loving him means giving up your morals. loving him means sacrificing your health and your time and your safety.

but bruce didn't do any of that in a way jason could see.

i imagine to someone like jason, who lost every parental figure in some capacity, whether it be to illness or crime or something else entirely, the evident disregard for him was as painful as any rejection could have been.

a lot of how jason feels and acts can be seen in much more interesting ways if we all look at him for he is; an unreliable narrator. he is missing huge chunks of story, especially when it comes to bruce, and has no choice but to act irrationally on the little truth he does know.

of course we the readers, and some other characters, know just how hard jasons death was for bruce. how destructively he mourned for his son.

but again, the surface level proof of it is not enough for jason, who's entire life has been love through sacrifice. but now, it's a sacrifice bruce can not ever give him.

first of all, thank you so so much for this ask!! this would be the funniest scenario, even more so if I also joined their band ksjslhskshd

so, there's: ka‍ede, hon‍ami, s‍a‍ki, ka‍nade, i‍a, kait‍o, midor‍i, tomor‍i, mo‍ca and a secret f/o

kaed‍e, sak‍i and the secret f/o all play the piano, with the latter two also knowing how to play with a keyboard. so woo, THREE KEYBOARDISTS

ka‍nade is a composer primarily, so woo, someone to compose our songs. I think she can also play the piano though (wow, these pianists only keep increasing)

hon‍ami plays the drums. I am so glad this band managed to get a drummer, they are essential (she's what saves it from being a piano quartet GDKSGSKSJS)

tomor‍i is a band herself, as a vocalist.

midor‍i is an idol, so he sings.

kait‍o and i‍a sing as well. hmm, though my brother kait‍o playing the guitar doesn't sound so bad.

I suppose na‍na could be counted, as she has musical experience with singing

AH there's moca, a guitarist!!!! I almost forgot her

soooo, either one of the keyboardists gets a keytar and does a bassist's job or I dunno GDJSGSJSNSKS.

(now that I think about it, wouldn't it be cool if i‍a played the bass? I think it wouldn't, but that's hc territory, even inside my selfship universe, so I'm not counting it)

to conclude, it would look like three pianists (4 if kan‍ade plays with them on stage) (2 are actually keyboardists also), a drummer, a guitarist and five primarily vocalist people. if kait‍o plays the guitar, then yippee, there's another guitarist.

as a bonus (since I'm also musically inclined), if I joined their band, there would be *gasp* another pianist. what a balanced band innit

If this set wasn't a lim one, id sincerely believe this is a 4*. The art style changes and you can actually see the effects, it fits so well with the character of Mafuyu too like, and the fact that what she's eating is a "candy apple" (GOOGLE TOLD ME THATS THE NAME IN ENGLISH, IN PORTUGUESE ITS "love apple")

Headcanons for the April Fool's PJSK unit swaps?

I do have a few lol!

Aoharu/friends:

Airi’s generally the most in-tune with how everyone is feeling on any given day, since she’s used to reading body language.

Ena was a bit awkward with Ichika and Saki at first, but the awkward phase didn’t last nearly as long as she thought it would.

As for Ichika and Saki, though Saki’s disappointed that she doesn’t talk to Shiho and Honami much, they’re glad they still have each other.

Yume Yume Jump!:

An’s actually warmed up a bit to the idea of being an idol, though she still insists her position is temporary.

Shizuku is absolutely the big sister of the group as a whole, since she has the most experience and is the most mature in some ways.

Shiho and Kanade like sitting in silence together after practices. It’s quite calming.

Fantasista:

The group spends a lot of time at Tsukasa’s house when they’re just hanging out, though Akito also shows everyone Vivid Street.

Rui enjoys Toya’s genuine curiosity in his inventions and everything, and likes showing off what they can do.

Even under their genre, they’ve decided to perform a good selection of music, usually due to Tsukasa and Akito’s contributions.

Happiness Sentai SaniSani☆Wonder!:

It’s not that Mafuyu necessarily enjoys taking on a darker role, but it allows her to kind of let loose for a change.

Haruka and Kohane were a bit quiet with each other at first, but they’ve found that they have very interesting conversations.

Emu’s just glad everyone seems to be enjoying themselves, but she still wants to work harder for the sake of Mafuyu’s smile!

Fellow Hobbyists on Days Off:

There’s a nice little cafe they like going to most often when they get together, but Honami also recommends places that have great desserts.
