I particularly love Spockanalia for how personal it feels. It's like looking at doodles from close friends in the margins of a schoolbook, even all these years later. It was published when Trek was still in its first ever season (1967). The first 'zine!
Roddenberry himself even read Spockanalia as he received copies while the show was still in production.

The Star Trek franchise today has moved away from the classical liberalism that rooted the original Trek storylines under Roddenberry. That series (most of the time) put over a good story well told ahead of any in your face political messaging. It inspired people to be their best selves despite their differences and faults. Roddenberry was a visionary of his time in the 1960s.
It’s a galaxy away from today’s re-booted Star Trek franchise. The message comes before the story. It’s more concerned to preach ahead of any original stories with any respect to story structure, plot, or character development. Nor does it share Roddenbery’s classical liberalism but a more authoritarian woke message of confomity of ideology than truly respecting differences in culture. It’s why the Trek franchise is burning on the dumpster fire of failing ‘made in Hollywood’ shows that haven’t attracted an audience.

Yesterday marked the birth of my hero and my Queen, Gwendoline Christie. I was fortunate enough to write yesterday’s Sci-Fi 5 about her, but I could’ve written several episodes about her work and impact.
While these tend to be more encyclopedic, on a personal note, Gwen is the kindest celebrity I’ve ever met. She makes everyone she meets feel like the most important person in the room. People didn’t really understand me, as an unconventional woman, until they saw Brienne of Tarth. When I met her, I told her she is the only person on any screen that makes me feel comfortable in my own skin. She thanked me for saying that and I felt we made an emotional connection there. I’m glad we made that connection. It’s something that made me feel seen, and it’s been encouraging for me to remember lately.
Happy birthday, Gwen. I hope you feel loved and celebrated on your big day, and every day.

The very first draft of TOS was written in 1964 and can be found here on the memory alpha wiki. Shown below is the original description for what James T. Kirk would become... and something sounds oddly familiar...
As an added bonus, here is the description of the second in command, at the time named "Number One."
The mysterious female executive officer, she was described as a slim, dark "in a Nile Valley way" and of uncertain age. She was expressionless, highly intelligent, and always cool under pressure. When Captain April left the ship, she would serve as "Acting Commander." The role was written by Roddenberry for his mistress, Majel Barrett from the very start. She appeared in the first pilot, but her mannerisms were assumed by Spock in the second pilot...
