rest your heart & rest your head

There’s this freedom I have in being lazy for the sake of my mental health. I’m such a go-getter by nature that I forget to slow down. It’s not rare, we’re all built into this society that prides those who burn themselves out and the culture that surrounds doing so. I used to pride myself in that too... being able to do everything by everyone’s standards. 

The problem with that is that you lose your own sense of standards when you look towards outward validation as your measurement for living. I wish I could take my own advice when others come to me seeking help or solace in some type of peril in life. It’s so much easier to give love you deserve to others when you’ve been raised the way I have. I’m still learning what it is exactly that is creating that wall from processing my own advice. I’m not looking for perfection, I’m looking for this connection with myself again.

And if I have to slow down and get gentle with myself again, then so be it.
