So I watched That 90′s show pilot and I have two (strong) things to say: (put under the cut so not to spoil people that don’t want to be spoiled)
How does Kelso’s kid and Eric’s kid NOT know each other? Like I get it, maybe people don’t stay close as they age so I get that maybe the kids didn’t recognize each other because it had been a few years since they were all together but Leia was literally like “who are you?” and when he said “Jay Kelso” there was no reaction. In all these stories that Eric told his daughter about him and Donna’s high school shenanigans he never once mentioned Michael Kelso by name? Kelso never dropped by for a visit? Eric and Donna never visited him? COME ON WRITER’S!
They ruined Jackie Burkhart’s entire s5-s7 development by Mila Kunis’ 60 second appearance. So Jackie is re-marrying Kelso (for the second time apparently?). She’s screeching at him to hurry up like they never left high school? It killed me. Absolutely killed me. Jackie, my love, you deserve better.

If the original writers had stuck around for the eighth season and we'd gotten a Jackie/Hyde endgame possibly ending with their wedding, do you think the writers of the reboot would have destroyed that in favor of pairing Jackie with Kelso the way they broke up Jackie and Fez? Or do you think there's a chance their endgame would have been preserved? For some reason, I feel like J/H shippers would have been screwed no matter what due to real life stuff.
Many of the original writers stayed, and some of them wrote great J/H episodes before season 8. The show runners changed from the J/H-loving Filgos to the J/H hating duo who took the job afterward.
If season 7 hadn't been decided to be last season and originally written as the end of the show, the Filgos likely would've stuck around to finish out the series (if it was just one more season). As far as everyone on T7S was concerned, S7 was it, and people started looking for new gigs, including the Filgos.
The writers take story direction from he showrunners. If the Filgos had stayed for S8, they would've had to deal with Eric's absence and Kelso's mostly absence. I'd like to believe they would've made sure both characters were still part of the show even if offscreen.
Jackie and Hyde would've been engaged (as in the originally-written S7/series finale). A lot of humor could've been derived from that. Red/Kitty and Jackie/Hyde likely would've had a lot of stories together, comparing and contrasting a long-married couple to a newly-engaged one (which isn't the direction taken during E/D's engagement arc).
W.B. would've been utilized more, hopefully with his character (and relationship with Hyde) fleshed out instead of just punchlines.
Fez would grieve over Kelso, a storyline of its own. He and Donna could bond over their mutual losses. At some point, Fez might misinterpret his new friendship-closeness as romantic, and Donna would have to shut him down. She's still in love with Eric, and she's waiting for him. Ez would think about this a moment and say, "And I will wait for Kelso, too."
Donna: But Kelso's not coming back. He's living with Brooke and their baby in Chicago.
Fez: Then I will go to him.
Donna: And do what?
Fez (emotional): Tell him I love him!
Donna: Okay, when you say *love* ...
Fez: Love, woman! Can't one man love another man in this country without everyone else being weird about it?!
Donna: I suppose father and sons, brothers --
Fez: And best friends. Now good day.
Donna: Fez, we're in my house.
Fez: I said good day!
Out of this we get an episode where Fez visits Kelso in Chicago. Unfortunately the actress who played Brooke didn't love being on the show, but maybe she'd do one guest spot like she did in S7.
What I would love is if Fez runs into Rhonda in Chicago, and the second half of season 8 for Fez is about them reconciling.
Jackie and Donna s storylines have a lot of potential, too. Jackie might say she understands what Donna's going through with having a long-distance relationship.
Donna: Oh? Do tell.
Jackie: Steven has to go to Milwaukee every few weeks for work. That's, like, an hour away, and sometimes he's there the whole weekend to spend time with family.
Donna: Jackie, Eric is across the ocean on another continent. I get letters from him twice a week. I haven't heard his voice in months. Hyde going to Milwaukee for a weekend doesn't compare -- and you go with him for a lot of the overnights.
Jackie: Well, fine. If you don't want my sympathy, you don't have to have it.
Donna and Jackie reconcile sooner than later, though, and Jackie helps Donna come up with the best care package for Eric ever, which Kitty gets nosy about. She tries to slip in a few items her own, and Red catches her. This leads to their story in that episode.
We also have Bob, whom might not have planned to move to Florida but started to date another woman, played by a famous actress (as T7S is wont to do). Maybe someone totally inappropriate for him or insane, which gives him a story arc with all the main characters who have to deal with this new presence and her weird effect on Bob. Not a Caroline/Fez rehash, though.
All in all, I hope the Filgos would feel free to let humor and plot rise organically from characterization. No more alcoholism for Kitty and no put-upon cliche TV husband for Red. R/K would get their due with their characters, evolving as the circumstances around them have changed (e.g., no Eric, J/H engaged, an ever-present Fez and Donna, etc.)

Just curious but what are your t9s ships?
Honestly I feel like my only really solid ship for That '90s Show is, Red and Kitty. They were just as wonderful in it as they were in That '70s Show, compared to some seasons even more wonderful. That '90s Show only made me love them more, can't tell you how many times I've rewatched the show-paritcalry their scenes during this summer break.
Other ships...well I think we can count Eric and Donna as a ship for the show. Sure they only come out in one episode together but they had several cute moments and @thatseventiesbitch has written plenty of fics of missing moments that make it seem like they were there a lot more. Hopefully in season 2 they will be in at least 2 more episodes than this season.
Jay and Leia are a cute ship and have to admit I do find the idea of a Forman dating a Kelso pretty funny. They have some really sweet moments I the show I'd be happy if they ended up together.
Nate and Leia were a twist I did not see coming. I don't know if the writer's will take this route but I wouldn't be too upset if they did, I like Nate, he's a fun character and I think Red might like him more than Jay so that works in Leia's favor lol
Gwen and Leia I could see it, I would actually kinda love to see their friendship turn into something more. I really loved their moments together and think the actors have great chemistry. I don't think it would be something completely out of the blue if the shows' writers decided to take this route, though I don't think they will.
Nikki and Nate, they remind me a lot of Jackie and Kelso but less toxic. I'm really curious to see if they will still be together in season 2 even if Nate isn't with Leia it doesn't mean he'll still be with Nikki. Not sure which way I'd prefer things go yet tbh.
Thank you once more for the ask! It's such fun getting to talk about the show!

Eric and Donna’s Wedding Fiasco Meta (Part 2)
Now, an analysis of Donna’s POV.
As mentioned, Donna did get cold feet before the wedding but she makes several comments throughout the course of season 7 about the wedding that indicate she is bitter over this. Let’s see.
In S7xE12 “Don’t Lie to Me”
Eric: I happen to know a lot of ways out of a pact, my friend.
Donna: That’s true. We once had a pact to get married and then he just didn’t show up!
from the same episode
Donna: Well I have one last wedding thing to return and once this is done the only thing I’ll have left to remind me we almost got married will be you [points to Eric][They kiss].
Donna also avoids Stacy Wannamaker (Jenna Fischer!) the whole episode because she doesn’t want to have to tell her she didn’t get married.
In S7xE19 “Who’s Been Sleeping Here”
Eric: Maybe you’d like to talk about how I didn’t show up to the wedding, too?
Donna: Oh, well I don’t need to talk about that because I relive it every morning when I wake up, ALONE.
Donna definitely had cold feet (her subconscious knew something was off - it wasn’t Eric, it was the way she was acting like she had to give up everything else) but I also think she actually did want to get married.
But what was driving independent, kick-ass feminist Donna to act like this? Why’d she buy that godforsaken trailer? Why the hell would she talk about giving up college?
I actually think a lot of it had to do with her parents’ unstable marriage, and her desire not to replicate it now that she’s entering her own.
Bob and Midge were Donna’s primary example of marriage, and they were... a fucking disaster, to put it nicely *lol*. Donna’s well aware of this. Now that she is getting married, she’s probably terrified of replicating those same unhealthy behaviors/patterns in her marriage with Eric. I think Donna’s very thoughtful in her decisions during this time (though not necessarily right), even if on the surface they don’t make sense or seem to contradict what she’s wanted in the past.
In S6xE23 “My Wife” Eric and Donna have this exchange,
Eric: Donna, all you ever talked about was seeing the world. And my dad’s better now. I mean, we can get out.
Donna: Well I don’t wanna get out. I just want to focus on doing this marriage thing right, and I think that means curling up every night next to you on that dining room table that doubles as a bed.
In the same episode, Donna has this conversation with her ex Casey Kelso,
Casey: I’m surprised to see you’re still in town. You’d always talked about gettin’ outta here. I always thought you’d be some place more glamorous by now like Paris. Or Reno.
Donna: Well I’ve got Eric, and my job, and a great place to live and or pull behind a car. I mean, it’s not what I expected but it’s definitely the right thing to do.
Donna thinks she’s doing the right thing by settling down with Eric in Point Place, and prioritizing building a home with him. She thinks that’s how you have a successful marriage, and even though she has other dreams like her career and traveling, they’re not as important to her as Eric is.
It’s not what she saw modeled from her parents - who never prioritized each other, who fought over Midge’s ambition, who weren’t faithful to one another and experimented outside of their marriage, who had explosive fights in front of (and involving) Donna all the time. It seems like she’s maybe she’s inspired by Red and Kitty, methinks - or just the desire to have a traditional, loving, stable marriage in general.
Which we do see, thanks to That ‘90s Show, that Eric and Donna ultimately achieve. Although there are no trailers involved, they left Point Place for the big city, and Donna has a fulfilling career as an author. 🥰💕

Unpopular opinions for that 70s show?
Oo interesting! Let's see...
1). Season 8 isn't unwatchable- you have to fast forward and skip over a lot but it's not unwatchable. I've watched the Red and Kitty scenes from that season loads of times.
2)Even though I know he wasn't the most loyal person and he broke Jackie's heart plenty of times, for the most part I see Kelso as a lovable goofball who yeah, doesn't always make the best choices.
3) I don't care for season 5 all that much. I know for most people it's their favorite season but for me that's usually when I start skipping around/fast forwarding scenes. Menopause Kitty is funny to an extent, then it just gets sad and a little uncomfortable, also the whole Donna and Eric engagement thing was pretty frustrating to me for many reasons.
4) I really love season 4. I think it's a really funny season and has some great ensemble episodes rather than romantic/ship centered episodes like: Prank Day, Jackie's Cheese Squeeze, Red and Stacey, and my favorite Christmas episode: An Eric Forman Christmas.
5) Maybe not exactly unpopular as it may have been year back but: Red and Kitty are the best couple of That '70s Show. Plus they were the ones who made it through all eight seasons without a break up or major falling out.
Thank you so much for the ask! This was fun!

My dad, if he was on That 70s Show…
-Born in 1961, so he would be in Jackie's class.
-He's the loud boy, with two left feet and dramatic hand gestures.
-Dad's a grandma's boy, whereas Eric's a mama's boy. My great-grandma has money, and payrolls him to go to college, where he majors in business.
-Jackie doesn't really like him, but she respects his upper-middle-class upbringing, and they platonically bond over their love for Bee Gees and the Carpenters. And their business savviness, although my dad's business interests are a bit…strange.
Jackie: You bred German Shepherds when you were thirteen? That's totally weird.
-Dad and Kelso would bond over their mutual love for dogs. Well, my Dad's mostly just weird about German Shepherds, but whatever.
-Dad and Eric are a lot alike, but their interests vary. They bond over their weirdness, I guess. And their past experiences of being a paperboy (a headcanon for Eric), and shoveling snow.
Dad: I got chased by a German Shepherd when I was a paperboy, once.
Eric: Yeah, me too! And then I quit.
Dad: I kept going, because money's money. *With an awkward pause* I used to shovel my neighbors' driveways for a few bucks a pop…
Eric: My dad made me do that, for free.
-Dad and Eric admire boats and Red's Corvette. Dad takes him to look at boats.
Eric: But we don't have the money.
Dad: But it's fun.
-Dad and Eric have similar senses of humor, but Dad's more…crude.
-Dad and Eric dress very similarly (but Dad doesn't tuck in his shirts). Donna calls them the "fruit stripe gum brigade."
-Dad has his very own Donna, my mother…
-But he also has a crush on Olivia Newton-John.
Jackie: See! Someone thinks Olivia Newton-John is great!
Hyde (flatly): Uh huh.
-Dad has a Trans-Am, like Casey. He may or may not be somewhat reckless behind the wheel, but he doesn't let Kelso behind the wheel. Ever.
-Dad is close to both Hyde and Kelso (even though Kelso can be a jerk), and Fez just tags along.
-All of my grandparents become close friends with Red and Kitty. Bob and Midge, though? Eh.

Opinion — That 90's Show I know this is blog primarily for my opinions and thoughts on games, anime, and manga but since I never use my personal account, I figured I post this here. That 70's Show is my favorite sitcom of all time. So, I was skeptical when a sequel/continuation was announced but even more so by the fact that Netflix was involved. Now, having watched the entire season, my overall opinion is that it was mediocre. Not bad. Not great. Just average.
The old cast cameos along with Red and Kitty were the highlights of the episodes. The new kids however are a different story. When the scenes are focused on Red and Kitty, the show feels very reminiscent of That 70's Show. When the kids are the focus, it feels like you're watching a cheesy 2000's Teen Nick/Disney Channel show. I understand that the new cast is young, and ten episodes isn't enough for them to settle into the roles and develop some chemistry, but their comedy and line delivery is horrible. The first few episodes were rough. It gets slightly better later though.
Now, onto the characters themselves. Despite my criticism of the acting, the characters themselves are mostly fine. Leia is basically Eric but a girl. There are two Kelsos for some reason. Jay is Kelso #1 but slightly less of an idiot. Nate is Kelso #2 but chubby and insecure. Gwen is like a dollar bin Hyde (not a bad thing though) and Nikki is a mixture of Donna and Hyde if that makes sense. And then there's Ozzie. I don't like him. He's annoying and feels out of place. The writers could've done a hell of a lot better with him.
I don't have any issues with the others aside from Jay whose only personality trait is that he's a Kelso, and Nikki having hardly any screen time without Nate. Nate, Gwen, and Nikki (whenever she's not with Nate) are somewhat enjoyable. Of the three, Nikki and Gwen are probably the closest to the That 70's Show characters. They both have the personality, aura, and humor of the original. If it wasn't for the mediocre jokes and line delivery, then they'd be good. With time and hopefully better writing they'd likely improve. Same with Nate.
Plot wise, each episode had an okay-ish story with low points. Given this is only the first season (assuming they'll be more) that's to be expected. The Leia-Jay-Nate love triangle was rushed. Again, there's only ten episodes so it is what is. Aside from that, I'm not a fan of the OP theme though I attribute that more to nostalgia. Like I said earlier, the show is definitely mediocre but it's worth the watch if you’re curious.

Steven Hyde x Reader
Happy Friday guys! I can’t believe this story has been going on this long lol I didn’t think it would get this far. But here we are! I don’t want it go on for too long but I also have quite a bit to still put in, so it might just be be longer chapters. Who knows. Let me know what you think in the comments! Plus, I love hearing from you all. Enjoy the chapter!

“So, have you heard from Hyde?” Donna asked y/n over the phone.
“No,” she replied glumly. “It’s been three days. He hasn’t come home and I’ve had to tell my parents that he took a few days to go be with his dad in Milwaukee.”
“What about Eric?”
“He’s still acting weird,” Y/n answered, sighing into the phone. “He barley looks at me and doesn’t even talk to me. And if he does, it’s short and kind of awkward. He can’t even make eye contact with me.”
“Yeah,” Donna said absentmindedly. “He isn’t even talking to me. And I’m his girlfriend!”
“Well, to be fair, you are in California visiting your mom.”
“There’s still the phone!”
“Fair point,” Y/n said and turned onto her back as she laid on her bed. “I still haven’t told my parents. I’m so scared.”
 “Hyde is too.”
“Clearly or else he’d be here.” Y/n sighed and rubbed her tired eyes. She hadn’t gotten enough sleep these last few days, tossing and turning all night.
“Are you okay though?” Donna asked, concern laced in her voice.
“Honestly? No. But I don’t have a choice but to be. I’m going to have a baby and I have to be strong for it. No matter how hard it may be.”
“You are so strong,” Donna said and wished she could y/n a hug. “You’re going to make it through this. This won’t last forever.”
  “God, I hope so.”
“Hey, it’s going to be okay. If you ever need a place to stay, you can stay over at my place.”
“Thank you, Donna. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
“Yeah, I know,” Donna joked making y/n laugh. “You’re my best friend. That’s what they do.”
 “When do you get back?”
“Tomorrow. You want to come and get me from the airport?”
“I’d love that,” Y/n answered. “We can go grab some food while we’re at it. I’ve been throwing up so much that I feel like I can eat a whole restaurant.”
Donna chuckled. “Pregnancy will do that to you.”
Y/n smiled. “You have no idea.”
“Alright, well, I’m going to go. My mom wants to take me to the beach and out to eat before I leave.”
“Okay, well you have fun.”
“I will. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
 “See you tomorrow.”
Y/n  hung up the phone and stared at the ceiling for a while. Tears threatened to spill down the side of her face, but she forced them down. Hyde was coming back, she knew him. She knew his heart. He wouldn’t abandon them like the man he thought was his father did. He loved her. Right?
“ Y/n, honey?” Kitty called from down the hall, snapping Y/n out of her thoughts. “ Y/n, dinner is ready!”
“Ok, I’ll be down in a minute, Mom,” she replied and sat up from her bed. She took a quick glance in the mirror, checking out her baby bump. She sighed in relief when she saw she wasn’t showing yet. “Soon, though,” she whispered to herself as she walked out her room.
She walked in the kitchen to be greeted by everyone, except for Steven.
“So, have either of you heard from Steven?” Kitty asked the twins as she set down the chicken.
“Who cares? He’s out of the house,” Laurie commented.
“Laurie, hush,” Kitty said sternly.
“No, I have not heard from him,” Y/n said sourly. “What about you Eric?”
“Yeah, he called,” Eric said, not looking up from his plate. “He said he’ll be back tomorrow night.”
“Oh, good!” Kitty smiled and sat down with her family.
“Yeah, great,” Laurie deadpanned, earning an elbow to the ribs from Y/n.
“Why don’t you like him?” she asked.
“Because he mooches off of mom and daddy,” she replied.
“Wh—” Y/n started, confused. “So do you!”
“No, I don’t,” she argued. “All I’m saying is that Mom and Dad work really hard around here and nothing here is cheap.”
“Except you,” Eric quipped, earning a laugh from his twin.
Laurie rolled her eyes, feeling agitated. “Believe me, I’m not cheap.”
“Fine, free. Whatever,” the twins said together and then looked at each other before laughing. If Y/n were being honest, she was happy that they were laughing together at something. Even though that something was their older sister. Even if Y/n wasn’t pregnant she still gets a kick out of it.
“Okay, thats enough you three,” Red said, unamused.
Y/n and Eric were still giggling as they turned back to their plates. As Y/n looked down at the plate in front of her, chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, and rolls, she couldn’t help but scrunch up her nose. Her heightened senses made everything smell so gross now and it was driving her crazy.
“What’s the matter?” Kitty asked, noticing her daughter’s distain towards the food. “Is something wrong with my chicken?”
Y/n’s eyes snapped up to meet her mother’s. “No, no! Not at all, just…uh…not sure if I’m feeling chicken tonight.”
“But you love chicken,” Kitty said, almost sad.
Y/n saw her mom’s sad eyes and panicked. “No, no it’s good! See.” She shoved a leg into her mouth and felt the juices drip down her chin
She wanted to gag, but forced herself not to. Not now, kid.
Y/n hummed in satisfaction as she swallowed the chicken, earning a smile from her mother. “So good.”
“Huh,” Laurie said, pouting in thought. “Why does that look and sound familiar?”
“Maybe because it’s usually you—” Eric started before Kitty cut him off, screaming.
“Eric, if you want to live to see your grand-children, you better not finish that sentence,” she warned. Eric looked over to Red who was giving him a hard stare.
Eric quickly looked down at his plate and was quiet for the rest of the evening.
                                                  --Time Skip—
Y/n found her head in the toilet that night, emptying the contents of her stomach of the evening’s meal into the toilet. She was trying hard to be discreet, but that showed to be a failure when Eric knocked on the door.
“ Y/n? Are you okay?”
“What do you want—” Her head immediately went back into the toilet.
Eric let himself in and saw his sister in her weakened and vulnerable state. He gathered her hair in his hands and rubbed her back. “Are you okay? What’s going on?”
“Mom’s chicken didn’t agree with me,” she whined, wiping the drool from her mouth with a piece of toilet paper. “Or the baby didn’t agree with the chicken.”
“God, I’m sorry,” Eric sympathized. “Look, we need to talk, but first, maybe you should brush your teeth.”
“I feel like we’ve been having a lot of talks lately,” Y/n tried to joke, but only came off as a whimper and she could feel her stomach churning again. She turned her face into the toilet once again and let out a long, painful, retched noise. “This kid is going to kill me,” she groaned.
Eric waited until Y/n was finished vomiting before helping her up and taking her to her room. “Are you okay? Do you need anything?”
“Well to stop vomiting would be nice, but what I really need is to know where Hyde is,” she said, staring at her brother. “When were you going to tell me that he called? Why didn’t he want to talk to me?”
“That’s what I wanted to talk to you about,” he said and sat at her desk chair. “This isn’t easy for any of us, you know this.”
“Oh, I’m so sorry that you have to carry the burden of mine and Hyde’s baby,” Y/n said, rolling his eyes.
Eric sighed frustratingly. “ Y/n, focus will you?”
She shut her mouth and looked at Eric nervously.
“He’s coming back,” he started. “He just needed a few days to think. He even got a hold of his dad in Milwaukee and spoke to him, but he’s not sure how he’s supposed to handle this. I didn’t want to tell you because I knew you would be upset. He wanted to talk to you, but he said he needs to talk to you face to face.”
Tears started to burn her eyes. “I don’t know what I’m going to do, Eric,” she croaked. “I’ve been alone in this since he left. The only person who was there for me was Donna and Jackie. And Donna has been gone in California for a few days while Jackie has been…well, being Jackie. The father of my child disappeared and my own brother wouldn’t even speak to me. Do you have any idea how crushing it is to be alone in this?”
“See, that’s the thing, you’re not alone!” Eric said. “Regardless of how I or Mom and Dad feel, you’re still going to have help raising this baby. Whether I like it or not, I’m going to be the uncle to my best friend’s and twin sister’s baby. Trust me, this isn’t what I thought would happen at all, but it did. And I came to realize that there is no point in being mad at you when it’s already done. I want to be here for you and Hyde. This is going to be my niece or nephew and…I don’t know, it’s kind of growing on me.”
Tears continued to flow down Y/n’s face. “Thank you, Eric. That means so much.”
Confused, Eric reached out to her and pulled her in. “I’m sorry. Did I say something wrong?”
“No,” she sniffed and hiccupped. “Just pregnancy hormones.”
“And we’re all going to have to deal with this for eight more months. Yayyy,” Eric mused.
Y/n laughed and sat up. She stared down at her lap for a minute while Eric studied her. Something was on her mind and he knew it. “Talk to me.”
She looked back up and wiped at her eyes. “Is Hyde going to leave me to raise this baby by myself?”
“What? No, of course not,” Eric said gently. “Look, he loves you. He’s told me so. I don’t see him leaving. He knows if he does anymore screw ups, I’m going to kick his ass.”
“Your leg would break midair before it could,” Y/n joked earning a laugh from Eric.
“Yeah, probably,” he joked.
“I feel like I’ve asked this more than I should, but…are we good?”
Eric nodded, giving her a half smile. “Yeah, we’re good.”
Y/n smiled at her twin. “So, uh, how do you think Dad is going to take it?”
“Well,” he said, thinking. “I’ve come to two possibilities. One, he kills you and Hyde. Or two, he’ll get so mad, his head will explode.”
Y/n laughed once again, the weight on her shoulders lifting a little.
                                                  --Time Skip—
The next night, Y/n and the gang sat in the basement with Hyde still missing.
After Y/n had picked up Donna, they had picked up burgers for everyone.
“Thanks for dinner, Y/n,” Kelso said.
“No problem,” she answered with a mouthful of fries. “I’ve been craving burgers and thought I could get everyone some, so you all don’t feel left out.”
“Well, you should get pregnant more often,” Kelso laughed into his burger.
Y/n gave him a ‘are you dumb’ look. “I think I’m going to pass on that.”
“So, Eric,” Kelso continued, licking his fingers. “Now that we’re past the awkward stage about Y/n’s pregnancy, all I gotta say is BURN!”
The group laughed, but Eric’s face remained stoic. “Hilarious.”
“C’mon, Eric, you’re going to be an uncle,” Jackie chimed in. “Aren’t you excited?”
“Well, kind of actually,” he answered honestly.
“Wait, really?” Y/n asked in surprised, mouth full of food.
“Yeah, but I’m not excited what’s going to happen when Dad finds out.”
“Yeah, we’re going to hear on the news that the Forman’s house blew up,” Fez joked.
“Make sure we’re all in our basements, duck and cover,” Donna said, laughing with the group.
“You guys are hilarious,” Y/n deadpanned and took a sip of her milkshake.
“I’d like to think we are,” Fez said.
Y/n chuckled as she took a bite of her burger. “It’s all fun and games until a father with anger issues explodes.”
“I’m going to have to disappear for a few days, or weeks…or years,” Eric said, staring in the distance. “You know what, I’ll just start packing for Mexico now.”
“Shut up, Eric. Dad’s not going to blame you.”
“Oh really?” Eric asked, setting aside his finished food. “When you failed your geometry test sophomore year, he asked me why I didn’t help you study. When I told I didn’t pass the test either, he asked why I didn’t help you cheat.” He shook his head.
“Well, I don’t think a geometry test is equivalent to a baby,” Y/n responded. “And besides, I don’t think you wanted to be there to stop me from getting pregnant.”
“Yeah, thanks for that.” Eric scrunched his face in disgust while everyone agreed how gross and creepy that would be.
“Anyway,” Donna said, clearing her throat. “Have you thought about what you want to have?”
“Not really,” Y/n replied and finished off her burger. “I’ll love them whether they’re a boy or a girl.”
“Do you think you’ll have twins since you’re one?” Jackie asked.
“Nah,” she replied. “It’s like, less than one percent chance of having twins. I highly doubt it.”
“Well, if you have a girl, you should name her Jackie,” Jackie said. “If it’s a boy, Jack.”
“You hate it when I call you Jack,” Y/n pointed out.
“Yeah, but if it’s a baby named after me, I can deal with it,” she said and flipped her hair.
Y/n rolled her eyes. “I’m not naming my baby after you.”
“Why not?!”
“Because I don’t need that hanging over my head!” Y/n responded and took the last bite of her burger. “We’re going to name the baby something completely different.”
“Like what?” Fez asked.
“I don’t know,” Y/n shrugged. “I’m only four weeks.”
“When’s your doctor’s appointment?” Eric asked.
“In two weeks,” Y/n answered. “They’re going to see if they can detect a heartbeat.”
“Yeah, they have this really cool machine now where they can use the ultrasound to see and hear the baby’s heartbeat. It’s pretty cool,” Donna said. “Kelso, did they use that with Brooke’s pregnancy?”
“Yeah, it was really cool,” Kelso responded and threw away his trash. “It’s really beautiful to see your baby like that.”
“Didn’t they give you a picture?” Y/n asked.
“Yes. Brooke still has it on her fridge.”
“How exciting!” Jackie said.
“Yeah,” Y/n trailed off.
“What?” Fez asked.
“Well, seeing my baby, it’s going to make it real,” she whispered.
“Well, it already is,” Donna said. “But it’s going to be okay.”
She was rubbing a comforting hand on Y/n’s shoulder when the door swung open. Y/n turned to see Hyde standing there with the same clothes he wore three days prior. She wanted to run into his arms and kiss him, but she also wanted to punch him in the face.
“Hey,” he greeted her, rather awkwardly.
“Hey,” she replied gravely.
“Where the hell have you been?” Donna asked him.
“I was just driving around. Went up to Milwaukee to see my dad.”
“Where did you sleep?” Fez asked.
“Either in my car or a motel.”
Y/n nodded and looked down at her hands. Her stomach knotting up and tears burning the back of her eyes.
“Look, Y/n, we need to talk—”
“You left me,” she snapped. “You promised you wouldn’t, but you did.”
“I didn’t leave you,” he argued. “I just needed some time to think.”
Y/n stood to face him. “You were gone for three days! You didn’t even call to speak to me. You spoke to Eric instead!”
“I know, but please listen to me—can you hang on a second?” He turned his attention to the group. “Would you guys get out of here?”
The group turned and walked away, but only a few feet and huddled in the corner by the stairs so they could listen. Y/n rolled her eyes and turned back to Steven.
“ Y/n, please believe me when I say I really wanted to talk to you, but I needed to see you first.”
“Okay,” she said and crossed her arms. “Go ahead. Talk.”
Hyde exhaled and scratched the back of his head. “I…I panicked, okay? This was the last thing I was expecting.”
“And I was?!” Y/n asked, voice rising. “See, here’s the difference between you and me: if I ran like you did, I wouldn’t be able to run away from my problems. Because wherever I go, it goes. I can’t outrun this problem, Steven. Even if I wanted to. But you did and when I needed you the most, you weren’t here!”
“I know. I know I messed up, but that’s why I’m here. I l—” he looked at the group who awkwardly (and not subtly) looked away in other directions, making it look like they weren’t listening. “Look, I’m sorry, okay? It’s a lot to take in. We’re barley out of high school and I get hit with, ‘You’re going to be a father.’ God, I can’t believe this is happening. How is this happening?” He turned away from her, hands rubbing his eyes.
“Well, it is,” Y/n said. “I’m just as scared as you, but I didn’t run away.”
“I’m sorry, okay? I didn’t mean to be gone as long as I was. I just needed to think of what I was going to do. I don’t know what I’m going to do,” he said. “I didn’t have a dad growing up. The only one I knew was Bud and he ran out on me. I’m not sure I even know how to be one. What if I end up being just like him? I can’t do that to you.”
“Okay, guys, I think we should go,” Donna whispered once she realized where this conversation was heading. “We’ll talk to them later.”
“But I wanna listen,” Kelso whined, but hissed when Jackie pinched his nipple. “Damn, Jackie!”
“Let’s go, Michael,” she said sternly.
The group retreated upstairs, leaving Y/n and Hyde alone in the basement. Hyde sunk down onto the coffee table and put his head in his hands. Y/n sat down next him and rubbed a comforting hand on his back.
“Well, you’re not going to be like Bud.”
“How do you know that?”
“Because you left out someone who did become a father to you: Red. He stuck around and continued to help you even when you pissed him off. He’ll never say it, but he loves you. And if anything, you’ll be like him.”
“He’s not going to when he finds out what I did to you.”
Y/n made a face at him. “You knocked me up, you didn’t kill me.”
“What are we going to do?” he asked. “I don’t know,” she responded. “I don’t know about you, but I’m terrified.”
“You have no idea. My job doesn’t pay me enough to support you and a kid. I don’t even think I get benefits. Aw, crap…should we just get married?”
Y/n made a face at him. “’Aw, crap. Should we just get married?’ Is that how you fix things?”
“How else do you suggest we fix this?” he asked.
“Well, by not getting engaged!” Y/n pointed out and stood up. “You really think us getting married because we’re having a baby is the right answer?”
“Well, what do you suggest?”
“I don’t know, Steven, but I don’t want you to feel like you have to marry me.”
Y/n started pacing the floor while Hyde stared at the wall, desperate to find an answer.
“By the way, I didn’t kiss her,” he piped up after a moment of silence. “She kissed me.”
“I know,” Y/n stopped pacing. “Everyone told me.”
“Good,” he said and sighed. “I was afraid you would think I’d do that to you.”
“You’re a lot of things, Steven, but a cheater isn’t one of them.”
“I hope those are good things,” he chuckled halfheartedly, trying to lighten the mood.
She smiled gently at him. “Most of them are. You’re still a huge pain in the ass though.”
Hyde lifted the corner of his mouth in amusement. “Maybe, I can get a job with W.B.,” he suggested. “He might’ve…already offered me a job.”
“Hey, that’s great!” Y/n said excitedly and sat down next to him.
“I think I might take it.”
“You should,” she encouraged him. “I applied to the state college here, but I think I’m going to apply to the community college and get a part time job.”
“No, let me worry about the bills,” he said. “I’m the man, that’s what I’m supposed to do.”
She squinted at him. “This isn’t twenty years ago. I can work and help with the bills.”
“It’s okay, really.” He turned and grabbed her hands. “Let me work and take care of the bills while you go to school.”
“Okay, well, we’re going to have to figure out where to live. I’m pretty sure my parents don’t want a baby living in the house.”
“Yeah, we’ll start apartment hunting,” he grunted and stood up.
Y/n watched him pace back and forth; he sighed and rubbed his face. He stopped pacing and looked lost in thought. “Maybe it is with you,” he said suddenly and gently.
“What?”
“Just now when you asked if us getting married was the right answer because we’re having a baby, I’m saying maybe it is. I mean,” he continued. “This is not exactly ideal, but we did talk about settling down before. Maybe, you know, this time is…now?”
Y/n blinked. “Are you…actually asking me to marry you right now?”
“Well…” he drew out, suddenly acting shy. “I guess I am.” He scratched his head.
She shook her head. “Steven, I told you I don’t want you to feel like you have to marry me.”
“See, that’s the thing I don’t,” he answered quickly. “I actually want to.”
She raised her eyebrows. “You do?”
“Yes. I know how I used to feel about marriage, but that was when I thought all women were the same or…like my mom.” Y/n chuckled lightly along with Hyde and he continued. “But, you’ve changed all that. You forced me to see a different picture painted in a whole new light and honestly…it’s refreshing.”
“I feel the same way,” she said, giving him a shy smile.
“I just, uh…I wanted to do this right. You know?”
“Well,” she said quietly, her heart thumping wildly. “You still can.”
“I don’t even have a ring. Not yet at least.”
“It’s okay,” Y/n whispered.
Hyde smiled so sweetly at her before nervously grabbing her hand and getting down on one knee. “I know that nothing about our situation has been easy. We’ve only been together for a short while, but I’ve known you my whole life. I’ve never felt this way about anyone before and for the first time I actually mean it when I say I love a girl and not just saying it to sleep with her.”
Y/n squeezed his hand a little tighter as he continued. “And as much as I used to hate commitment then, you’ve changed me. You make me a better man. If you’ll have me, I promise to stay and do my best to make you happy because you make me happiest that I have ever been.”
Tears pricked the corner of Y/n’s eyes as she smiled widely. She couldn’t believe this was happening because she never thought it would. She remembers when he used to be so against marriage, but here he was voluntarily on one knee, asking her to marry him.
“So, Y/f/n y/m/n Forman, will you marry me?”
Y/n nodded while tears started to run down her face. “Yes,” she whispered.
Hyde smiled brightly at her as she stood up and swiftly brought her face to his. He held onto her tight as he kissed her hard. They relished the feeling of each other’s lips and the emotion they both felt. Hyde found himself surprised that he wasn’t freaking out and Y/n found herself excited.
Their kiss was broken short though as the group came crashing down the stairs.
 “ENGAGED?!” They all shouted.
“Were you guys listening this whole time?!” Hyde asked them.
“Duh,” Jackie responded which earned her an elbow to the ribs from Donna. “Ow, Donna! What the hell was that for?”
“Are you guys serious?” Eric asked, ignoring the girls and walked down towards the couple. “Are you really engaged?”
“Are you mad?” Y/n asked.
Eric shook his head. “No, I’m done being mad. I’ve been doing that a lot lately,” he said and chuckled. “If anything I’m just…shocked. Especially with how fast all this has been moving. I never thought in a million years this would happen.” He rubbed his lips with his fingertips, as if lost in thought and sighed. “But, uh, congratulations, guys.”
He brought Hyde in for a hug, patting his back and then brought Y/n in for a tight hug. If anything he was feeling conflicted. Was he mad at them? No, not at all. Was he happy? Yes, of course. But, what he was feeling most of all was…sadness?
Maybe because the group was changing drastically now. Kelso was becoming a police officer and just became a father himself, Donna was working at the radio station and setting goals for herself with feminism, Fez had a steady job working at the DMV, Jackie was…well, he didn’t know what the hell Jackie was doing, and now Hyde and Y/n were not only having a baby, but they were now getting married and he was now going to be working with W.B at an awesome record company. And what was Eric doing? Besides lazing around the house doing absolutely nothing while watching his friends and sister were working to do something amazing with their lives. His year of not doing anything was almost up and while he enjoyed sleeping in and doing nothing all day long, he was starting to see the down side of it all. And it was hitting him hard.
“Are you okay?” Y/n asked him, seeing his face change.
“Yeah,” he lied and plastered on a fake smile. “I’m just thinking of what you’re going to say to Mom and Dad.”
“Yeah, don’t remind me.”
“Oh, Y/n this is so exciting!” Jackie squealed coming down the stairs and interrupting their conversation. Everyone in the group trailed behind her. “I can’t wait to start wedding planning! But first, we need to get you a ring!” She gasped dramatically. “Oh my God, who’s going to be your maid of honor? If it’s not me I’m going to scream.”
Y/n laughed and placed her hands on Jackie’s arms. “Hey, calm down, Jack. It’s not happening yet. I’m just taking it one day at a time.”
“Well, you better tell them soon because it’s going to get harder to hide a baby bump,” Eric said.
“I know. I was actually thinking of telling them tonight,” she said which caused the group to go silent. “What?”
“Should we start planning your funeral now or?” Donna joked.
“Funny,” she deadpanned. “No, I think it will be fine now that Steven and I have a plan.”
Eric nodded and pressed his lips into a thin line. “It was nice knowing you. Both of you.” He gave her a hug which Y/n shrugged off.
“Alright that’s enough,” she said and stepped back. “They can’t be too mad…can they?”
Again, the group went silent, looking at each other; Trying to decide who is the better liar. But no lie could be good enough to determine what was about to happen with Red and Kitty.
Fez stepped forward wearing the most serious expression Y/n has ever seen. “Before you do, I just wanted to say how much I love you guys and how much I’m going to miss you.” He dramatically wrapped his arms around Hyde and start faux sobbing. The group laughed at Fez as Hyde shoved him off.
                                                    --Time Skip—
Y/n waited in the basement for another couple hours, working the nerve to go up there and tell her parents. The gang had decided to stay and come up with a plan, but nothing seemed good enough to prepare them for the upcoming explosion known as Red.
“Okay, so here’s the plan,” Y/n said, exhausted. “I tell them, Steven you have the El Camino ready when things go south, Eric have the Vista Cruiser ready in case Dad tries to kill you, and everybody, whatever you do: act dumb. You didn’t know I was pregnant and just run like hell.”
Everybody nodded in compliance as Y/n laid back against the couch. “I should probably go up there now,” she said, her stomach twisting into knots, her head swimming.
“Do you need me to go with you?” Hyde offered.
“No, no, you stay here. If I don’t make it back in,” she responded dramatically. “Please, move on without me. I love you.”
Hyde grabbed her hand. “Hey, don’t talk like that. We will get out of this alive.”
Y/n gave him a single nod. “Okay, here I go.”
“Wait, Y/n,” Kelso said, abruptly stand up and gave her a hug. “Goodbye.”
Y/n gave a theatrical sniff as if she was crying. “Goodbye, Kelso. I’ll miss you the most.”
“Really?” he asked brightly and turned to Hyde as if to say I knew it.
“No,” she deadpanned and pushed him away from her before walking up the stairs, hearing the chuckles fade away as she entered the kitchen.
She saw Kitty sitting at the kitchen table, hunched over scribbling something on a piece of paper.
“Hey mom,” Y/n’s voice wavered, her knees starting to wobble, but she played it off as if nothing was wrong. To hide her nervousness, she opened the fridge and grabbed a soda can. “What cha doin’?”
“Oh, I’m just going over your medical bill,” Kitty replied and Y/n felt her heart drop to her feet. “I see that they ran some extra tests which explains why we have to pay a bit more. Plus, the ambulance ride didn’t help any.”
“Oh, okay. I’ll help pay that back,” she replied and looked around. “So, uh, where’s Dad?”
“Oh, he’s out getting dinner.”
“Oh, okay,” she replied and opened her water, taking a hefty sip. Kitty looked up from the paper and noticed Y/n acting different. In fact, Y/n’s eyes were glossy and she looked like she was about to vomit again at any second.
“ Y/n, honey? What’s wrong?” Kitty asked, concerned.
Y/n’s chin wobbled as she gripped the can tighter. Do it. Do it now! She stared at her mother who had completely abandoned her task and now was staring at her daughter.
Y/n couldn’t find the words. She stood there, like an idiot, or as her father would say, like a dopehead. Her eyes were wide and she could feel cold perspiration beginning to cover her palms.
It’s now or never.
“Mommy,” she said in a small voice. “I need to tell you something.”

Sooo I might be obsessed with Jackie and Hyde dating without the Kelso intro... I wish you would write a story where Hyde and Jackie date without her having dated Kelso first. I would love to see Hyde introducing her as his girlfriend bonus if he introduces her to red and kitty!
I'm sorry it took me so long to finish and that it's so long, I got carried away.
Slight trigger warning- nothing happens but attempted non con by background character.
********************************************
The school was deserted for the most part and Hyde was over it. But Forman had to get stuck staying late to work on a project today of all days.
There was nothing remarkable about today, Hyde was just in a bad mood and if he could blame someone else then he’d take the chance.
He was down to counting the minutes that Forman said he’d be done but it was too late, he needed a smoke. He wasn’t stupid enough to do that out in the open at school, you never knew who would narc on you, but he had a pack of cigarettes in his pocket and a craving he needed to tackle.
He was heading off behind the bleachers, Forman would know to look for him there, it was where he always smoked when he got stuck waiting on him.
He heard a commotion, just what he needed his usual spot taken by some horny losers who couldn’t get a room.
“Stop it,” the girl said firmly.
“Come on baby.”
“I am not your baby and I said no.”
Never one to stay out of a fight, Hyde rushed forward.
“Get your hands off of me,” the girl shrieked.
“Hey,” Hyde pulled the boy off the girl and punched him in the face.
He went down hard.
“I think she said no,” Hyde loomed over him. He’d never even seen this kid before, but his blood was on Hyde’s knuckled and streaming down his face.
“Man whatever, she’s just a fucking tease.”
The girl came over and kicked him in the stomach, making him double over on the ground and wheeze.
“You’re a disgusting pig,” she said and started to walk away.
He wheezed, “You can forget about me driving you home.”
“You think,” she shouted before turning back and kicking him in the shins for good measure.
Hyde kept a reasonable distance but didn’t want to leave her out there all alone.
Nearing the parking lot she stopped walking and turned toward her savior.
Hyde got closer.
“Thank you uh… I don’t know your name,” she said shyly.
“Hyde.”
She snorted, “That’s not your name. No one would name their kid Hyde.”
He knew he should have been more annoyed but her change in attitude caught his attention. Though he was still a little annoyed, “It’s my last name.”
“Then what’s your real name?”
“Are you always this big a pain in the ass?”
“Usually yes, so what is your name?” She asked again.
He could have just walked away after she got to safety, but here he was playing 20 questions with this irritating cheerleader. “Steven,” he growled, “but my name is Hyde.”
“Was that so difficult?” Now she looked almost timid, “Thank you, Steven Hyde.”
There was something in the way she said it, the way she looked at him, the way she looked so small. She’d gone from kicking ass to joking, and now she looked not exactly scared of him, but definitely unsure. All his irritation with her melted.
He softened his voice, “Are you okay?” He looked her over, she didn’t seem like she got hurt but you never knew.
She nodded, “I’m fine, he yanked me behind the bleachers and everyone else was gone. I’m really lucky you were here.”
“Well, I don’t think he’ll try it again with you,” He tried distracting her with humor, “did you break a rib or something?”
“No, that’s too far to the side, I might have got his gallbladder though.” She said brightly as if she were simply stating that today was sunny out.
“Hyde,” Eric shouted from the parking lot.
“Hold on a second,” he told her.
He must be a complete God Damned idiot for what he was about to do. Well, Red did always say he was a dumbass.
“Took you long enough,” Hyde growled.
“Sorry mom, my partner nearly burned down the chem lab, it was stay late or fail the semester.”
“Whatever Forman, look can you drop her off at home?” Hyde gestured towards the girl watching him curiously. He’d told her to hold on so she would. Either way, she was curious about him.
Eric raised an eyebrow, “What have you been up to while I was in class?
“Fighting actually.”
“Yeah, that makes the most sense, but sure I can drop her off.”
Hyde ran back to her, “You want a ride home?”
“You’re seriously offering to take me home?”
“Well, you’re ride seems to have left for some reason.
“That would be great actually,” she said relieved. She hated walking home after practice. After school, she didn’t mind, but now it was a little late to be walking alone and with what just happened she didn’t want to be alone.
She followed him to the parking lot.
“So Hyde who’s your friend?” Eric asked. It was so rare that they ever saw Hyde talk to a girl let alone offer her a ride home Eric was not about to squander this opportunity.
“Uh,” he realized in their fighting over his name he never asked her for hers.
“I was wondering if you had any manners,” she said coyly to Hyde. “I’m Jackie Burkhart.”
“I’m Eric,”
Jackie turned to Hyde, “See how easy that was Steven.”
Eric’s face nearly split in two, “Steven, have you been rude?”
“You want me to hit you because I will.”
Eric smirked at him, a silent promise that he would bring it up again.
They got in and Styx started blaring from the radio.
“Styx really?” Hyde groaned at Forman.
“I’m driving, it’s my car, I pick whatever music I want,”
“Maybe Jackie doesn’t like Styx.” He was hoping that having ears that worked she would agree with him.
“They’re not bad,” Jackie said. “But I like ABBA more, they’re my favorite.”
Hyde rolled his eyes. “You cannot be serious?”
“I am, they’re amazing.”
Eric had a perfectly awful idea, this cheerleader seemed to be annoying Hyde and he was taking it probably because she was a girl. But his torture could go a little farther.
“Hey Jackie, some of our friends are hanging out at my house if you want to hang out for a while?”
“Really, who’s there?”
“There’s that foreign exchange kid Fez, Kelso, and my girlfriend Donna. We’re probably just going to watch TV but someone is bound to do something stupid.”
“Alright, it sounds fun,”
Hyde shot him a look that meant he’d kill him. Well, he hadn’t done it yet, so Eric didn’t worry about it.
When they walked into the basement they saw two boys trying to duct tape fireworks to a suit, and a redheaded girl with her head in her hands.
“Is everything okay?” Hyde asked Donna.
“I hid the matches but they’re still stupid,” Donna said without looking up.
“Hey, everyone this is Jackie,” Eric announced.
At that, Donna looked up.
“Oh thank God, another girl.” Donna was desperate for anyone who was not one of her stupid friends to talk to. “Please save me from this idiotic amount of testosterone.”
Jackie made a beeline for Donna and plopped down next to her, “You must be Donna, Eric talked about you on the way over.”
Kelso finally looked up from his firework suit.
“Oh my god she’s hot.” He jumped over to the couch. “Since you’re a cheerleader we should totally go out,” Kelso said.
Donna sighed, “I told you, stupid.”
“Why?” Jackie looked up at him blankly.
“Cuz you’re like super hot.”
“I know that, but why does that mean I should go out with you?”
“Burn,” Fez looked to Eric hopefully, “did I do that right?”
“You’re getting the hang of it buddy.”
The girls chatted and tried to ignore Kelso and Fez.
“We were talking about going to the disco in Kenosha, that seems like it would be up your alley.”
“Absolutely, when are you going? I will totally go.”
“Donna, really, disco?” Hyde asked, he hated disco.
“Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean we all can’t be seen in the only club within three hours for a night,” she shot back.
“But who are you going with? Like you shouldn’t go alone,” Kelso said trying to push himself into their conversation hoping to get an in with Jackie.
“Hmm, I’ll go with,” Jackie’s eyes roamed the three single boys landing briefly on each of them, and lingering a little longer on Hyde.
“Donna. She did invite me after all.”
“You can’t go with Donna, you have to go with a guy?”
Hyde smirked at Kelso not getting his way.
“Who said I do? And I don’t really know any of you, so Donna will you go with me and these boys can do whatever?”
“You know what sure, except Eric definitely has to go with us because of the car.”
“Because of the car? Really, is all I am to you a set of wheels.”
“No, just when we want to leave town.” Donna turned back to Jackie, “We’re going on Saturday,”
“Perfect. Do you have a dress we could go shopping before then?”
“That would be great.”
They hung out for a while until Jackie finally called her dad to pick her up before her curfew. “I have to get going, but this was fun,” she stood and headed for the door, “It was nice meeting everyone.”
Once she was gone it was like the volume dropped three decibels.
“So, looks like Donna has a new friend too.”
“Jackie’s cool, energetic like crazy but she’s cool. Though she did call me a lumberjack because of the flannel shirt.”
“How did you meet her?”
“Oh, I didn’t,” Eric grinned idiotically, “Our boy Hyde here met her while I was stuck in the Science Lab. Now how did that happen?”
“Get bent,” Hyde replied.
“Manners like that, no wonder she agreed to hang out here. She was totally swept away,” Eric kept egging him on.
“Some guy was hassling her and she was alone alright,” Hyde crossed his arms and went back to watching TV.
“So you swoop in and try to get some with heroic gratitude nice,” Kelso said.
“Hey, Kelso come here,” Hyde waved him over.
Kelso stood beside him and Hyde nailed him in the side.
“Sorry, ow,” he pouted.
“Say something like that in front of Jackie and she might do worse, she did to the guy that was bothering her.” Hyde suppressed a smile.
He didn’t smile, but still, the memory of her as little as she was, kicking the crap out of that guy, it made him kind of fond of her.
Hyde humiliated himself over and over, he didn’t know why he did it. He also didn’t know why he was going to this stupid club, other than watching Kelso get rejected that never got old.
But Red saw right through him and Kitty spent the next few days teaching him to dance. He wasn’t great but he could manage.
Plus he’d seen Kelso dance before. Hyde was practically Fred Astaire in comparison.
Hyde was waiting outside for everyone since Donna wanted to see Eric’s reaction to her in girly clothes.
He looked up when he heard a car door shut.
She was stunning. Gone was the cute little girl he’d found behind the bleachers, she looked radiant with her hair curled but loose ringlets framing her delicate face.
“Wow, you look beautiful,”
Her smile turned almost shy at the praise. “Thank you, you clean up pretty good yourself.”
“Yeah, well.”
Before he could say anything else Forman and Donna came outside and they were followed by Tweedle Dee and Dumb.
“What no flowers?” Jackie asked Donna.
“You asked me remember?”
“Hmm, I guess you’re right.”
“Hey, stop trying to steal my girlfriend,” Eric joked realizing he too didn’t have flowers for Donna.
“Don’t be so hasty Eric,” Kelso said. “Just see where the night takes it.”
Everyone except Fez hit or kicked him at once.
“Alright everyone in before my mom tries to get pictures.”
“I’m not sitting next to Michael,” Jackie declared.
“You take window, I’ll sit beside you, that work?” Hyde asked.
“Yes,” she agreed easily.
“Great let’s get in the car and go.” He desperately wanted to get going before Mrs. Forman found them all.
Kelso asked her to dance, which Jackie refused, she’d watched him dance alone on the floor, she wasn’t sure if he was going to hurt someone and she didn’t want to be liable.
Fez asked her next when she refused he and Donna went to the dance floor.
He was a great dancer, she admitted.
The truth was she didn’t want to dance with them, she was interested in someone else.
“Why aren’t you dancing,” Hyde asked her,
“I didn’t want to dance with Kelso or Fez.”
“But you want to dance?”
“Yes,” she said honestly. She had that timid look from a few days before and he couldn’t help himself.
He had after all spent days learning these stupid dances. Might as well use it.
“Come on,” He held out his hand and she took it immediately.
They danced closer than Fez and Donna did.
Jackie felt the rush of being so close to him electrify her skin.
“You’re a really good dancer,” Jackie told him.
“Thanks, so are you. So why weren’t you dancing before?” He wanted to hear it from her, she’d nearly ignored Fez and Kelso but put up zero fight to dancing with him.
“The right person didn’t ask me.”
“And I’m the right person?”
She smiled up at him, and his breath caught. “
You just might be, Steven Hyde.”
She annoyed him, but she intrigued him more. She was bossy and bratty, but she’d won over Donna and maybe even Forman. There was just something about her he couldn’t help wanting to discover.
“You want to go out sometime?”
“Like on a date?”
He rolled his eyes, “Yeah, on a date.”
“I would love that, Steven.” Jackie stood on her toes and kissed his cheek gently.
For some reason, he didn’t mind her calling him Steven. It was weird that he didn’t, but something told him he’d have to get used to that.
A few weeks later
“Red, Mrs. Forman, can I talk to you for a minute?
“No,” Red growled leaning over the engine of the car.
“Sure, Honey what is it?”
“I just wanted you to meet someone,” He waved her over from inside the house, “this is my girlfriend Jackie.”
They’d hung out in the basement a few times but they tended to go off by themselves to get to know each other without the hassle of the others.
“It’s nice to meet you,” Jackie said nervously. She knew how important the Forman’s were to Steven.
“Steven,” Kitty jokingly scolded, “you didn’t tell us you had such a cute girlfriend.”
“Don’t tell her that, she’ll get a big head.”
“Steven, I already know I’m cute. And thank you, Mrs. Forman.”
“See,” Hyde reiterated.
“Yeah, well I need to fix this cute carburetor,” Red went back over to the cruiser.
“Do you need some help?” Jackie offered.
“I think I need to go get my camera,” Kitty said rushing off into the kitchen.

Heyyy I'm really sorry to disturb you on your birthday (Happy birthday btw) but I really need some writing help.
So the next chapter of my story the Princess and the cowboy is of when the gang finds out Jackie ditch, but the thing is I have no idea how to start it or how to write everyone's reaction, I sometimes I find it hard to write them after season 8 because their characters where just so ooc that's its hard to pin point how they would actually react.
Again sorry for bothering you on your birthday 🎂 I hope you had a blast 😘💗
It's okay! My birthday was yesterday, and even though I barely had time to breathe, I still had a great day!
To answer your question... Well, they were all such assholes to Jackie on season 8 (except Eric because he wasn't there), that you can literally write them the way you want. How do you want to write them? Do you want them to keep behaving the way they did on s8, or do you want them to act like they did on seasons 1-7 (in-character)?
If you want them to act like their real selves, I believe that after they realize Jackie's not coming back, they would feel like crap (at least Hyde and Donna would, idk about Fez). Since Jackie's not there anymore and they can't apologize and make things right with her, I think they would be extra agonized. They don't know where she is, they don't know if she's alive, they don't know if she's okay, she could have been kidnapped, she could be lying in a hospital bed somewhere, they have no way of knowing, and the weight of the guilt would eat them alive.
Their reactions are up to you and your perceptions of the characters. Hyde could drown in his own self-loathing, or he could finally admit to himself that he loves her and he wants to be with her, so he'd be more determined to find her than anyone else. Donna could be in denial and blame everyone but herself for Jackie's departure (like she did in a lot of post-s8 fics), or she could be as determined as Hyde to find her and make things right.
Red, Kitty, and Eric would be very worried too, especially Red and Kitty.
That being said, I can't wait to read the next chapter!

Special Brownies *s.h*
Pairing: Romantic!Steven Hyde x Reader
Word Count: 629
Warnings: swearing, drug mention
Requests:
Tumblr media
For being Eric's twin, the two were very different. For example, when Hyde came up with the idea to make special brownies, Y/n though the idea was amazing while Eric continued to rant about how horrible the idea was.
Another thing Eric would have though to be a horrible would be the idea of his best friend and his favorite sister dating. This "idea" was actually fact and the two decided to keep it secret from Eric as he would go ballistic.
They decided to keep it a secret after their first time together. They were laying in bed in a cheap motel, Y/n's head resting on Hyde's chest as he ran his fingers through her hair.
"He's gonna be pissed, you know that?" Y/n sighed.
"Then we just don't tell him. Or anyone." Hyde said, as it were obvious.
Flash forward a few weeks, Hyde was now living with her sharing a room with Eric. Having him around made it a bit harder to not jump him but they managed. Hyde would wait until both Red and Kitty were asleep (Eric having gone to sleep much earlier) before sneaking into Y/n room where they'd make up for lost time with stolen kisses and relaxed cuddles.
Now the couple were stood in the kitchen, Hyde slaving over a batch of special brownies. Y/m checked the time, "I have to get to that movie. Save me some special ones, baby." She kissed his cheek quickly after making sure no on was looking.
"I promise." Hyde smiled.
After seeing the movie and Fez kiss Jackie. The three Y/n, Jackie, and Donna were sitting on the porch talking about said kiss.
Y/n was spaced out until Jackie confessed Fez was the best kiss she had.
"Eric's a great kisser and but he's never, like, rolled anything." Donna stated.
"You know who's a good kisser? Hyde." It came out of her mouth before she could stop it.
Both Donna and Jackie looked at Y/n shocked, "What!?"
Y/n's eyes widened, "I didn't mean to say that."
"You and Hyde!?" Jackie exclaimed.
"Does Eric know?" Donna asked.
"God no. And don't tell him, he'd try and kill Hyde." Y/n stated.
After finding out Hyde got your parents high and that your dad sold Eric's car, you couldn't stop laughing.
"Both of you are dumb-asses!" Y/n laughed.
"Hey! How am I a dumb-ass?" Eric asked.
"By association." Y/n giggled.
"Hey at least we got the car back!" Hyde reasoned.
Y/n rolled her eyes, laughter subsiding.
"I'm going upstairs, bye." She said, subtly sending a wink to Hyde.
Later, Hyde walked up the stairs with a grin on his face.
"Hey, baby." Y/n smiled, sitting at the kitchen table, reading a magazine.
"Whatcha doin'?" Hyde asked.
Y/n smiled innocently, "Oh I dunno, I was just thinking."
"What about?"
"About how my parents are still high as kites and how I was about how oh, so tired I am." Y/n smirked.
Y/n left the room before Hyde could answer Y/n left the kitchen and ran upstairs. Hyde froze before comprehending Y/n's words and following her upstairs.
He entered the bedroom adjacent to Eric's where Y/n was laying comfortably on her bed, arms open. Hyde kicked off his shoes and laid down next to her, resting his head on her chest.
Y/n threaded her fingers into Hyde's hair, lightly scratching his scalp. He sighed contentedly, "I love you, you know that?"
"Of course I do. And I love you too." Y/n said. Hyde grabbed Y/n's free hand and began playing with her fingers.
"Oh yeah, Donna and Jackie know about is now."
"Oh, cool. Wait, what?"

J/H 3-25: The Promise Ring
And here we are - the end of Season 3! Subtext from last time comes out as text, and the path into Season 4 is laid. How's it look? Read on!
(I had originally planned on re-writing the "B" story of "Canadian Road Trip," but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that I had no real ideas that would tie into a Jackie/Hyde project like this. All I had was a dislike of Jackie's line about never having to think again if she were a model. I still hate that line, but as I said at the off-set, I wasn't looking to "correct" anything about the series just because I don't like it. To the extent you can talk about "filler" in a sitcom, "Canadian Road Trip" is filler anyway, a fun one-off episode that could play at almost any point in the series, with the characters at their most basic.)

SHOW TITLE   INT. FORMAN BASEMENT - NIGHT   A chill night in the usual hangout. ERIC sits on the couch, counting dollar bills. KELSO paces behind him, whacking a paddleball continuously and loudly.   HYDE enters through the basement door and nods at Eric.   HYDE: Hey.   He starts to cross to his chair but is blocked by Kelso, who keeps paddling as if he hadn’t noticed Hyde’s entrance. Hyde’s head bobs slightly as he watches each whack of the paddle, the noise becoming more and more pronounced. Finally, Hyde rips the paddle from Kelso’s hands, pulls the ball free, tosses it back toward his room, and whacks Kelso in the arm with the paddle before shoving it into his hands.   Eric looks up from his money and smiles at Hyde.   ERIC: Rough day down at the precinct there, champ?   A scowling Kelso wags the paddle at Hyde.   KELSO: (slow, deliberate) It’s not the paddleball’s fault you’re on probation, Hyde.   He stomps back toward Hyde’s room to look for the ball. Eric resumes counting money and Hyde makes his way to his chair.   HYDE: (to Eric) What are you up to?   ERIC: Just counting my secret stash. I’m getting something special for Donna. ‘Cause, you know, she and I have been fighting a lot lately...   Kelso, with the ball in one hand and the paddle in the other, jumps over the back of the couch and sits at the other end.   KELSO: I wish Jackie and me were fighting. I’m used to that. But ever since the Ted Nugent concert she won’t even talk to me.   Hyde stirs with interest. Eric takes note.   ERIC: (flat, to Kelso) Oh, no. How awful.   He gives Kelso a look of mock-sympathy. If Kelso gets the sarcasm, he ignores it.   KELSO: Man, I thought for sure we were gonna get back together there. I mean, that second first date kicked ass. But she got all upset right at the end and wouldn’t even tell me why. I don’t get it.   He shakes his head, turns his attention to the broken paddleball. He looks back and forth from the paddle to the ball, trying to puzzle out how to reconnect them.   Eric and Hyde regard him coolly, then turn to each other when they realize he’s not going to figure it out.   ERIC: (to Hyde) I’m gonna get Donna a promise ring.   HYDE: Careful, Forman. You get mushy with Donna, she’s gonna see the secret girl inside the man. Now trust me. You won’t wanna let Erica out.   KELSO: (laughs) “Erica.” That’s a good burn. You can’t do that with Michael, I’m lucky.   HYDE: Oh, really, Michelle?   Kelso pouts, turns to Eric.   KELSO: Don’t listen to him, Eric. Hyde obviously doesn’t understand mature relationships, but I do. And a promise ring is not only a gift from the heart, but it also means more sex and less mouthing off.   Eric gives him a long look.   ERIC: Really, no idea why Jackie wouldn’t want to get back together?   KELSO: None!   He throws his hands up in the air as Eric and Hyde share a look.
MAIN CREDITS   BUMPER   INT. FORMAN BASEMENT - DAY   The next day. THE CIRCLE. Eric, riding a good high, holds up the PROMISE RING he’s purchased.   ERIC: Ah, the ring of love. Just holding it makes me feel mellow and content. (beat) Actually, that might not be the ring.   Pan to Kelso.   KELSO: Guys, what if the reason Jackie didn’t wanna get back together is because she doesn’t wanna be with a guy like me? I mean, sure, I’m good-looking – but I can’t be trusted!   Pan to Hyde.   HYDE: Come on, Kelso. Don’t be so hard on yourself. I mean, sure, you cheated on Jackie, lied to her all the time, and kept talking about breaking up with her behind her back – but it’s always great for us watching all that come back to bite you in the ass.   Pan to FEZ.   FEZ: Why is everyone but Fez in love? If I don’t get some romance soon, I’m going to give myself a blister. Well... another blister.   Pan to Eric.   ERIC: (to Kelso) Yeah, Kelso. You and Jackie are like the perfect couple. You do the bad stuff and she tries to catch you. She’s Smokey to your bandit. (beat) God, it’s like that movie applies to everything!   Pan to Kelso.   KELSO: Man, why is everyone always against my love? Especially you, Hyde. When it comes to Jackie, you’re always bringing up the bad times, trying to get me caught doing bad stuff, or cutting in on all my master plans. You’re like one of those bitchy cheerleaders on Jackie’s squad. Hyde... alisha... (to Eric) Quick, what’s a girlie name for Hyde?   Pan to Eric.   ERIC: Uh... Hyde-ringa?   Pan to Fez.   FEZ: Hyde-ephanie?   Pan to Hyde.   HYDE: It’s Heidi, ya morons! Heidi!   He shakes his head in disgust.   BUMPER   EXT. FORMAN DRIVEWAY – NIGHT   A calm, peaceful night. The Vista Cruiser is parked in the driveway. Eric and DONNA lie on the hood, looking up at the stars.   ERIC: That was fun, huh? It was a good movie. It was one of those love movies like you like, huh? And who took ya? (points to himself) This guy.   DONNA: Yeah, it was great.   ERIC: You know what else this guy did for you?   He pulls out a ring box with a red ribbon and a card attached.   ERIC (cont’d): Got you a present.   They both sit up. Donna takes the ring box and reads the card.   DONNA: “To Donna. Love, This Guy.”   ERIC: Yeah, that’s me.   Donna gives him a smile and opens up the box. She takes the ring out, holds it up.   DONNA: Oh, my God.   ERIC: It’s a promise ring.   DONNA: Eric, it’s... it’s beautiful.   ERIC: I’m so glad you like it. ‘Cause... look.   He takes her hand, the one holding the ring.   ERIC (cont’d): Even though things have been a little weird lately...   With perfectly bad timing, RED and KITTY step out from the kitchen and see the kids.   KITTY: Oh! Look how cute on the car! (laughs)   Eric and Red look mortified, but Donna smiles and hops down. She holds out the ring for Kitty to see.   DONNA: Here. Look at what Eric got me.   Kitty takes the ring.   KITTY: Oh, my... (to Red) Red, go get the camera.   RED: Kitty...   ERIC: Mom, I -   KITTY: (to Red) Go! It’s – it’s in the drawer near the cheese grater.   Red heads back inside.   ERIC: Mom, no.   KITTY: Hush. (to Donna) Donna, now, make the face you made when Eric gave you the ring.   She hands the ring back. Donna rolls her eyes.   KITTY (cont’d): Oh, now, see – I don’t think you rolled your eyes! (laughs)   Red appears in the patio doorway, but doesn’t come back outside.   RED: Kitty, I cut myself on the cheese grater.   Kitty tuns to look at him. Eric and Donna, seizing their chance, take off down the sidewalk. Kitty turns back around, too late.   KITTY: Oh, now you get back here and smile, dammit!   They do no such thing. Defeated, Kitty heads back inside to tend to Red.   BUMPER   INT. HUB – DAY   A sunny afternoon, modest business. Donna and JACKIE are at the wall table, Donna in the booth seat and Jackie across from her. Donna has the promise ring on her left index finger. She holds her hand up so Jackie can see the ring.   DONNA: Can you believe it? Isn’t it pretty?   JACKIE: Oh, it’s beautiful... and Eric found a ring size big enough for your giant hands.   Donna gives a quick eye roll, then turns back to admiring her ring.   JACKIE (cont’d): Donna, why aren’t you wearing it on your left ring finger?   DONNA: (shrugs) I dunno. ‘Cause I like it on this finger. What’s the difference?   JACKIE: Donna, a promise ring is sacred. If you don’t wear your promise ring on your left ring finger, it totally cancels out the promise that you’ll be together forever.   DONNA: Wait, that’s what I promised?   Her right hand closes around the left, hiding the ring from sight.   Hyde enters and crosses to the girls’ table.   HYDE: (to Donna) Hey.   Jackie looks up at him and glowers.   JACKIE: Oh, hello, jerk.   HYDE: Good afternoon, wench.   The insult cuts. Jackie stands and elbows Hyde as she runs into the bathroom.   HYDE (cont’d): (to Donna) Hear that? The sweet sound of silence.   He grins and sits. Now Donna glares at him.   DONNA: Shut up. Jackie told me what you said to her after the Ted Nugent concert. You know, that’s why she and Kelso aren’t back together yet.   HYDE: Oh, yeah? Hey, you think that would get me off probation early? You know, for the vital public service of keeping morons split apart.   DONNA: Hyde, the “distant jerk” act’s not gonna work on me, okay? We’ve been friends for too long. I know what’s going on: you like Jackie... for some twisted reason... but you’re too in denial to own up, so now you’re mad at her for wanting to get back with Kelso and you’re worried he’ll hurt her again.   Hyde pulls a stunned face.   HYDE: Oh, my God, you’re right! And that dream I had last night, where I was Sonny Corleone and kicked ass at the toll booth, that was really my unconscious mind telling me how I want to kill my father! Thanks, Sigmund!   He blows a raspberry. Donna wipes the spittle off her face.   DONNA: Look, I think it’s a bad idea too, but believe it or not, Jackie has thought this through. It was weird, sophomore, cheerleader thinking... but she has been more careful this time. And Kelso actually has worked really hard to show her that he’s changed.   HYDE: But he hasn’t, because people don’t change.   DONNA: Come on. That’s not true.   HYDE:  It’s true where I come from.   Donna leans back and regards Hyde. She sees where he’s coming from now.   DONNA:  Yeah, well, Kelso is not your parents.   Hyde jerks in his chair, but Donna doesn’t stop.   DONNA (cont’d): He’s your friend, and so’s Jackie. She really looks up to you, and this time, you’re the one who hurt her. And you could’ve taken a shot yourself if you weren’t so proud. If you’re not going to do that, you could at least respect that Jackie made a choice and thought it through, even if you think it’s wrong.   Hyde gives Donna a long look, his shades a mask to what he’s feeling.   Jackie comes in from the bathroom. Hyde gets up and leaves before she finishes sitting down. Jackie looks away from the door.   Donna looks back down at her ring. Jackie takes notice.   JACKIE: You know, Donna – I really need to introduce you to my good friend, nail polish.   She holds up her perfectly manicured nails. Donna frowns at her, then turns back to her ring.   CUT TO:   EXT. FORMAN DRIVEWAY - EVENING   Later that day. The Vista Cruiser is out in the driveway. Hyde and Eric play basketball while Kelso and Fez lean against the car.   KELSO: (to Fez) Man, I just – maybe I should go to Jackie, you know? Lay it all on the line. But what if... what if that’s it? I don’t think I can take that again.   FEZ: I understand. You are a sensitive man, Kelso. Tender. Delicate.   HYDE: Girlish, even.   Donna and Jackie come up the driveway. Eric, who has the ball, tosses it to Hyde and crosses to Donna.   ERIC: Oh, there you are. The movie’s about to start.   He takes Donna’s left hand and starts to lead her around the car when he notices: the ring isn’t there anymore.   ERIC (cont’d): Where’s your ring?   DONNA: Oh, I put it on a chain so I could wear it around my neck.   She lifts the ring and chain up to show him, crosses to the patio. The others start to make their way around the car.   KELSO: BURN! Oh, super burn! The wedding’s off!   ERIC & DONNA: Kelso, shut up.   Eric crosses to Donna. The others all follow, right behind him.   ERIC: Donna, why aren’t you wearing the ring on your hand?   DONNA: I don’t know. I didn’t really think it was a big deal.   JACKIE: That is not true! (to Donna) I told you – (to the others) I told her it was a big deal!   DONNA: Look, Eric, why don’t we talk about this later?   ERIC: Well, there’s not really anything to talk about. Unless – you don’t want to wear the ring.   KELSO: OUCH!   Everyone gives him the same dirty look.   KELSO (cont’d): Sorry – I’m sorry.   He gestures for Eric to continue.   Eric looks back to Donna. She looks back at him, then laughs and shakes her head.   DONNA: It’s great. The ring is great.   She unhooks the chain and slides the ring onto her left ring finger. For good measure, she holds up her hand.   DONNA (cont’d): See? It’s great.   ERIC: So... we’re good?   DONNA: Yeah, fine.   ERIC: Okay, good!   They head to the passenger side of the Vista Cruiser. Eric opens the door for Donna. Just as she’s about to step inside, Kitty rushes out from the kitchen, camera in hand, and snaps a picture of them. Eric flashes a sheepish smile; Donna wears a long face.   Kitty looks up from the viewfinder.   KITTY: It’s my God-given right as a mother!   She disappears back into the house. Donna gets inside the car.   FADE TO BLACK   COMMERCIAL   BUMPER   INT. FORMAN KITCHEN - DAY   The next day. Red, Kitty, BOB, and MIDGE sit at the kitchen table. Red has a PHOTOGRAPH in his hand; it’s the picture Kitty took the night before. The parents study it carefully.   KITTY: (beat) Well, now – now that is just so... oh, dear.   MIDGE: When they got home, I asked Donna how it went, and she said “fine.” (shakes her head) But she didn’t seem fine.   KITTY: And Eric has never been good at knowing when “fine” isn’t fine. It runs in the family.   RED: (to Kitty) No, it does not!   KITTY: (cold) Fine.   RED: Okay! Good.   He smiles, oblivious.   Bob takes the photo.   BOB: I dunno. She doesn’t look that unhappy. (to Midge) She kind of looks like you.   MIDGE: I’m unhappy, Bob.   They all look amongst themselves. Kitty breaks the silence with a nervous laugh.   CUT TO:   INT. DONNA’S BEDROOM – DAY   Concurrent with the previous scene. Donna is in bed for an afternoon nap. The promise ring is in her right hand. A slow zoom in as we cut to:   INT. GAME SHOW STAGE   DREAM SEQUENCE. Donna is on LET’S MAKE A DEAL, complete with stupid carrot costume. She bobs on her feet as MONTY HALL comes up to her, microphone in hand.   ANNOUNCER (v.o.): Welcome to “Let’s Make a Deal!”   MONTY: All right, Donna, which is it going to be? Your future behind Door Number 1, Door Number 2, or Door Number 3?   DONNA:  Oh, my God, I don’t know!   She jumps and claps.   DONNA (cont’d): Okay – Door Number 3!   MONTY: Door Number 3? All right, let’s take a look at what you didn’t choose behind Door Number 1.   Door Number 1 opens. There is a writing desk with a typewriter and a coatrack with a leather jacket hanging on it.   MONTY (cont’d): It’s a leather jacket and a typewriter, which you could have used when you became a globe-trotting rock n’ roll journalist!   Donna’s shoulders slump.   DONNA: Wow... that would’ve been nice.   MONTY: Yeah, too bad. All right, let’s take a look at what was behind Door Number 2.   Door Number 2 opens. The U.S. Constitution, framed, is displayed between the Wisconsin and American flags.   MONTY (cont’d): The U.S. Constitution, which would come in handy when you became the first woman president!   DONNA: Oh, Monty, these prizes are bitchin’!   MONTY: Yeah, truly bitchin’. Now, let’s take a look at what you did choose behind Door Number 3.   Door Number 3 opens. Eric is sitting on a donkey, beaming and waving, as terrible country music plays.   MONTY (cont’d): It’s your boyfriend and a promise ring!   ERIC: I love you!   He blows Donna a kiss. The “zonk” sound plays. Donna’s face falls as we cut to:   INT. DONNA’S BEDROOM – DAY   Donna wakes from her dream. She curls her right hand in toward her and looks at the promise ring.   BUMPER   INT. FORMAN BASEMENT - DAY   Concurrent with the previous two scenes. Kelso is in Hyde’s chair, his leg restless, while Fez reads a comic on the couch.   KELSO: This is it, man. If Jackie won’t take me back, I’m done with chicks for good. I’ll be like a monk. Or an ugly person.   Hyde comes down the stairs, a beer can in hand. He’s almost on a march.   KELSO (cont’d): (to Hyde) Hey, how’d you sneak the beer? Is Red still looking at that -   Hyde tosses the can aside. He grabs Kelso by the collar, hauls him out of the chair, and throws him back against the water heater.   HYDE: Are you now, or will you ever again be shacking up with Forman’s skanky sister?   He isn’t completely drunk, but the beer’s loosened his tongue and temper. Kelso, cornered, tries his best to shrink down.   KELSO: Why, did she say something about me? (Hyde frogs him in the arm) OW!   HYDE: I’ll ask the questions here, dirtbag! Now – yes or no?   KELSO: No!   HYDE: Do you now, or will you ever again sneak out back behind the gym to make it with Pam Macy?   KELSO: It was also in the gym. And her car. (Hyde frogs him in the arm) OW! No!   HYDE: Are you now, or will you ever again look to get any action on the side with whores, trash, or sluts from Sacred Heart?   KELSO: NO! And – dude, Hyde, you need to get off probation, ‘cause all that time around cops is having a bad influence on you!   FEZ: I disagree. Once he outgrows his rebellious phase, I think Hyde would make an excellent cop. He projects an air of masculine authority.   Kelso and Hyde give Fez a look, then turn back to each other.   HYDE: I’m not kidding around here, Kelso! Now, I’ve had a shot! I’ve had a good shot! And I’ve been holding that shot! And if I keep holding it, so you can have your shot, because that’s the shot she wants to take, then I need to know damn well that you’re not gonna blow your shot!   KELSO: (beat) Wait, I’m confused. Are we going hunting? (Hyde frogs him) OW! Why the violence?   FEZ: (to Kelso) He means Jackie, fool!   KELSO: All right, fine! Look, Hyde – I don’t know what’s going on with you and Jackie – if you like her, or if her dad hired you to be, like, her secret bodyguard – and, if he did, he’s getting his money’s worth, because – damn!   He massages the spot on his arm where Hyde’s been hitting him.   FEZ: (to Hyde) See, another career opportunity for you. What a productive afternoon.   KELSO: (to Hyde) Look, I don’t need you or anyone telling me I screwed up before with Jackie. I know, okay? I know every time I see her. And I can’t do anything to take it back. And when I try to change, and be a better guy, nobody believes me. But I think I have changed. And I think Jackie does too, which means more to me than anything. So, if I have a shot, I’m gonna fight for it.   He stands up a little taller. Hyde regards him, his hands clenched in fists. His shades mask his thoughts.   Hyde grabs Kelso by the collar again and drags him behind as he marches to the basement door.   KELSO: No, wait – I didn’t mean that kind of fight! (to Fez) Fez, come on, man! I NEED A WITNESS!   Hyde throws the door open, and they exit. Fez runs after them.   CUT TO:   INT. THE HUB – DAY   A short time later. Business is slow at the Hub. Jackie sits alone at a small round table near the center of the Hub. An empty food basket is on the table. Jackie gathers her purse and stands to leave.   Hyde enters just as Jackie reaches the door. They each take a step back from the other.   HYDE: (beat) Hey.   He gives her a chance to reply; she just regards him coolly.   HYDE (cont’d): Um... I’m just dropping off...   He glances behind him; no one’s there. Scowling, he throws open the door to the Hub and sticks his head outside.   HYDE (cont’d): (shouting) Will you get in here, you big baby!   Kelso skitters to the door, Fez right behind him. They stay as far back from Hyde as they can while still making their way inside.   KELSO: (to Hyde) You are a scary, scary man, Hyde!   Hyde cuts him off with a look. He jerks his head in Jackie’s direction and motions for Kelso to go to her. Jackie looks back and forth between them.   JACKIE: Michael, what’s going on?   With one last nervous look to Hyde, Kelso takes Jackie by the hand and leads her back to the middle of the Hub. Fez hangs back by Hyde.   KELSO: Okay, Jackie – look, I know our second first date didn’t end so great. And I know we’ve got some bad history, and I’ll understand if you don’t want to go back to that. But I just – there’s something I need to tell you: from the first minute that I saw you, I knew that I wanted to fool around with you.   Jackie’s face scrunches up. She looks over at Hyde, who shakes his head and shrugs.   KELSO (cont’d): And then, after we did that, and I still wanted to talk to you, I knew that I never wanted to be without you. And I feel like we’ve got another chance to make that happen now, and I want to take it, but it’s up to you. So... will you please take me back?   Jackie studies Kelso’s face. She looks back to Hyde, who gives another, smaller shrug. “Love is the Answer” by Utopia comes on the jukebox.   JACKIE: (beat) Yeah. Yeah, Michael, I will.   She smiles, and Kelso smiles back. They both open their arms wide and embrace, Kelso lifting Jackie off her feet.   Over Kelso’s shoulder, Jackie looks up at Hyde. He gives her the smallest of smiles. Eyes watering, she smiles back before pulling her head back to kiss Kelso.   Hyde looks away, and he sees Fez struggling to hold in tears.   HYDE: Oh, God, what are you crying about?   FEZ: (sniffs) You know what, you magnificent, selfless bastard!   He throws his arms around Hyde. Hyde tries to fight his way free from the hug, but Fez just keeps holding on as Jackie and Kelso continue to kiss.   CUT TO:   INT. FORMAN BASEMENT - NIGHT   Much later in the day. Hyde sits in his chair, sunglasses off. He has a pack of cards in hand; one by one, he tosses them on the coffee table.   Eric comes down the stairs, crosses to the lawn chair. He looks over at Hyde and grins.   ERIC: Hey. So, I hear Jackie and Kelso got back together. And I hear they didn’t do it alone, nuh-uh. I hear they had help from a curly-haired cupid. An angry, violent, curly-haired cupid who may have just broken his own heart and Kelso’s humerus.   He laughs silently. Hyde doesn’t look up, just keeps tossing cards.   ERIC (cont’d): Man... could you just tell me what you were thinking when you -   HYDE: Where’s Donna?   ERIC: (beat) She said she had to study.   HYDE: Huh. So, everything’s cool?   ERIC: (beat) Okay, look. I don’t know what everyone thinks is going on, but Donna and I are not only fine, we’re great. Everything’s finally settled, so... (beat) We’re happier than ever.   HYDE: Well, one of you is.   ERIC: What is that supposed to mean?   Hyde lets out a long sigh. He sets what’s left of the deck down on the table and looks straight at Eric.   HYDE: Look, Forman. I get what you’re trying to do. You know, you’re trying to lock her up. Seal the deal. And I’ll I’m saying is... maybe Donna’s not that kind of girl.   Eric’s face hardens. He stands and points at Hyde.   ERIC: Okay, you don’t know as much as you think, Hyde. So you need to just shut up.   He runs back up the stairs. Hyde glances after him, then leans back and puts his feet up on the coffee table.   CUT TO:   EXT. FORMAN DRIVEWAY - NIGHT   Immediately following. Donna sits on the hood of the Vista Cruiser. She has her promise ring in her hands; she fiddles nervously with it.   Eric steps out from the kitchen, still seething. He brightens up when he sees Donna, crosses to sit on her right.   ERIC: Hey. What are you doing out here?   DONNA: Um... I wanted to talk to you.   She looks up at a still-smiling Eric.   DONNA (cont’d): Oh, this is gonna be hard. (beat) Um... Eric, I love you. A lot. But I have to give you your ring back.   ERIC: What? Why?   Donna looks up, as if searching for the words. She turns to face him head-on.   DONNA: Okay. How do you see the next twenty years?   ERIC: I don’t know. I guess I always figured that we’d go to college together and come home -   DONNA: Yeah, but Eric, you know that’s not what I want. I mean, I’ve told you that. And who knows? I may want to go to school back east, or maybe in Paris.   ERIC: Okay, well, you know what, Donna? Whatever, okay? The important thing is that when you see yourself in Paris, or... wherever, I’m there, right? (beat) Right?   DONNA: I don’t know... not always. I mean, it’s not like there’s anyone else, but sometimes I’m... by myself. I mean, all I’m saying is, I don’t know. Neither of us does. And this ring is just a stupid high school promise. If we’re meant to be together, then we’ll end up together.   ERIC: No, the way we end up together is by saying we’ll be together, and then – being together.   DONNA: Eric, come on! We’re together now! Isn’t that enough?   ERIC: No!   He gets off the car and begins to pace.   ERIC (cont’d): I mean, damn, Donna! If you can see a future for yourself without me, and that doesn’t, like, break your heart, then - we’re not doing what I thought we were doing here! And you know what? Maybe we shouldn’t be together at all.   DONNA: Wait a minute...   She stands too.   DONNA (cont’d): Are you breaking up with me?   ERIC: Well... are you giving back that ring?   Donna tries to choke down her tears; she can’t.   DONNA: Yes.   ERIC:  Then... yes.   Donna tries to say something, but the words won’t come. With one last look at Eric, she leaves the promise ring on the hood of the Vista Cruiser and runs down the street, crying.   Eric picks up the promise ring in his right hand (MUSIC NOTE: “Thirteen” by Big Star). Slowly, he climbs back onto the hood of the Vista Cruiser and lies back. Looking up at the night sky, he slams his right hand down in a fist. Tears come to his eyes as we slowly crane up.   FADE TO BLACK   CREDITS   INT. FORMAN BASEMENT - NIGHT   Another night. Eric and Hyde sit on the couch. Hyde’s shades are back, but both boys look forlorn. The radio plays in the background.   DJ (aud. only): Well, it’s a beautiful night out tonight in the greater Oshkosh area, and I hope all the lovers out there are making the most of it. But for those poor fellas without a lucky lady, you don’t have to spend the night alone and inside. We have just the place for you to go to...   “Heartbreak Hotel” by Elvis Presley begins to play.   ELVIS (aud. only): Well, since my baby left me Well, I found a new place to dwell Well, its down at the end of the lonely street At Heartbreak Hotel Where I’ll be – where I get so lonely, baby I get so lonely I get so lonely, I could die...   HYDE: You know, I’m really starting to hate this station.   Eric rolls his eyes and throws his head back.   END.
---
Okay, so - before you get mad...XD
1. This re-write runs through the beginning Season 5 - we've got a long ways to go.
2. Remember that a major goal of this was to keep the Jackie/Hyde tension going through this period of the show in proportion to everything already there. It's been tough to do that without sacrificing Kelso's character development, which is there at this point in the series - he does try to change and be faithful to Jackie. But I think I've found some fun ways to work with that in Season 4 that you'll all enjoy.

PLEASE share your thoughts on That 70s Show. Question, did you know already what happened on the show or did you get the chance to watch it spoiler free? Because as a JxH shipper that was spoiled both the ship and the ending, I'm always curious how ppl that didn't know what to expect react to it, regardless if they ship it themselves or not. Also, tell me your fave character, ship, fave season/episode, stuff like that. I love hearing what ppl think of this show lol
*spoilers for people who haven’t ever watched* *this also is so long sorry in advance, under the cut so it doesn’t clog everyone’s dash* ANON YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW HAPPY THIS MAKES ME!!!!
i knew some things but not how or when they happened (except eric leaving in s7, i knew about that and still UGLY CRIED)!! i honestly loved jackie and hyde together, they’re definitely one of my favorite couples, if not my favorite couple. i thought they balanced each other out so well and hate how s8 ruined their bond, it was almost as if their relationship never happened and seeing them hate each other again made me so sad. when they were together, watching hyde soften a little bit was so nice to see. jackie and kelso definitely were better friends in my opinion, they understood each other in ways no one else in the group did (probably because of past history), but despite their relationship failing i think their friendship was so sweet. jackie and fez made literally no sense and was way too rushed, but if they’re happy together i guess i can’t stay too mad at it (especially since it was only for like an episode). hyde and samantha was also a strange relationship, i feel like sam’s only purpose was to put hyde x jackie to rest for good. if they were going to keep sam in the show they shouldn’t have written her off the way they did. also idk if this is an unpopular opinion but kelso x fez low key should have happened but no one was ready for that conversation at the time. fez always seemed to worship kelso in a way he never did w eric or hyde, it would have been interesting to see them pursue something but after the buddy write off i wouldn’t have expected it. speaking of buddy, he definitely should have been a guest star more than once bc he would have gotten on so well with the gang. bi eric forman also should have been canon but anyway-
eric and donna had their issues, but at the end of the day i feel like it was expected they would be together. boy and girl next door fall in love, i mean.... it was always happening. they were cute in the beginning, but i do wish donna didn’t give up everything to stay with eric in point place just to have a complete 180 and have him leave when she was the one who always had plans to do things and he wanted her to stay to save their relationship. they kind of did eric dirty by making him seem like such a jerk by breaking up with donna OFF SCREEN and really without warning, that made me :/. but seeing them reunite made me cry despite them ending their relationship on weird terms. PLEASE DON’T GET ME STARTED ON RANDY HE’S THE ABSOLUTE WORST. he wasn’t a bad person he was just.... so annoying and served absolutely no purpose to the show except to annoy the living heck out of me.
i honestly can’t choose a favorite character!! even the characters who i didn’t really care for much still hold a special place in my heart (except randy, this is a randy hate club). i love hyde, he’s always been the man and has the best taste in music (also would love to work in the record store with him?). donna is so cool, she stands up for herself and doesn’t really conform to society’s standards and i find her so likable (also laura prepon.... gorgeous). i hate kelso for cheating but i feel like he grew up throughout the show, as much as kelso can (like seeing him step up for brooke with betsy melted my heart), and he makes me laugh so incredibly hard. although jackie was a little annoying in the beginning, seeing everything she went through like her dad going to prison and her mom leaving her, and how she sort of unlearned some of her Not So Great qualities made me appreciate her more (also mila kunis.... very gorgeous). eric is.... well, he’s the heart of the show whether you love or hate him; i like him even though he was a little annoying at times, but i think his redeeming qualities outweighed the negatives. i feel for fez, they played a little too much on the ‘foreign’ thing and after a while i felt that it was :/ especially since he’d been in the country for so long (red always calling him the wrong name just.... ehhhh), he’s quirky and adorable and i love him. even though red was.... yeah.... i still loved the one liners and he and kitty were adorable, kitty is the cutest mom and the way she treated everyone like they were her own kid was just so precious. leo.... i don’t have any words, he’s simply the funniest person and whenever he speaks i lose my mind. bob was alright, he was good to donna but midge deserved better (like when bob was mad at her for taking the feminist classes??).
everyone changed so much from the beginning of the show and i loved seeing the development even if it wasn’t what i expected initially. i can’t really choose a favorite season, i definitely need to watch one more time to figure that out. i love all the circle moments though. uhhh i don’t really know what else to say. i’m emotionally drained from crying over finishing this show. even though s8 was a bit of a mess i loved every second of consuming that 70s show and i can’t wait for my rewatch🥺🥺 let me know some of your opinions anon !! i could talk about this show all day

I just read a wonderful short fic "Mother Listen to My Heart" by portions_for_fox which was about Hyde's terrible childhood, and it got me thinking about the Eric and Hyde friendship and the way both were there for each other on many occasions. Since I love your meta pieces, would you care to write one about the Eric and Hyde relationship on the show and how you feel about it?
Sure!
First, I’ll talk briefly about Eric/Donna/Hyde non-triangle triangle. That storyline was used to illustrate how great Eric is by using Hyde as his villainous foil, and it seems like a non-sequitur to the rest of the show. The aftermath isn’t treated with any depth or consideration for Donna, who is the main injured party in this scenario, not Eric.
In “Halloween” (2x05) and “Eric’s Stash” (2x12), however, Hyde’s betrayal of Eric is the show’s focus. Donna’s experience of having her wishes and boundaries ignored and violated repeatedly by Hyde is never discussed or explored. It needed to be, and Hyde needed to demonstrate true remorse for his treatment of Donna. But That ‘70s Show’s characters and storylines were written inconsistently, so one has to find consistency where one can.
With that part of the show out of the way…
The deeper, more private dynamic of Hyde and Eric’s friendship is first revealed in “Career Day” (1x18). Hyde seeks out Eric at the Formans’ after his mom both invalidates her abuse of him and criticizes him by saying he’s just like the man who abandoned them both: his dad. Hyde is visibly upset , close to tears, when he finds Red in the garage, and asks if “Forman is around”.
When Red says Eric isn’t home, Hyde slides down the side of the Vista Cruiser to the ground, another visible sign of his emotional distress. He admits to Red, “Edna’s riding me again about being just like my dad, so I just took off.”
As we learn very shortly, in the season’s following episodes, “ Hyde rarely expresses his pain to others directly, but this scene in “Career Day” indicates that Hyde probably did share his feelings with Eric when they got too intense. I’d go so far as to say that Eric is the only one who knew just how bad Edna and Bud’s abuse and neglect of him was during his childhood.
In “Hyde Moves In” (1x24), Eric walks in on Hyde when Edna tells Hyde, over the phone, that she’s left for good. Hyde tries to deny it to Eric, to himself, but Eric persists, and Hyde admits that Edna’s not coming back. During a circle, Eric tells their friends about this, and they’re too high to care. Eric is high, too, but he keeps trying to get their friends to focus on Hyde’s predicament.
Later in the episode, Eric tells his parents what happened.
KITTY: Eric, I’m sure she’s not abandoning Steven. She’s his mother!ERIC: Mom, her exact words were, “I know I’m your mother, but I’m abandoning you, Steven.”
We don’t see Hyde telling Eric this bit of information in the earlier scene where they talk in Hyde’s house. But either Eric made up that info to stir his mom into action or, more likely, Hyde told Eric what Edna said over the phone. This is consistent with Hyde seeking Eric out in “Career Day”.
Further, in “Punk Chick” (1x22), the following scene happens:
HYDE: It is, too, my suitcase!EDNA: Nothing in this house is yours!HYDE: Shut up!
[On the porch outside]HYDE: Bitch.ERIC: So your mom’s taking it pretty hard [that you’re leaving], huh?HYDE: Oh, I haven’t told her yet. ERIC: So Hyde, you’re, like, really going through with this.HYDE: Yeah, man. I mean, you know, I know people spit on you [in New York City] and the rats are as big as your head or whatever, but this might be my only chance to escape, Forman.
Eric is the only person Hyde speaks to this way about himself until much later in the series. He eventually trusts Red, Kitty, and Jackie with his feelings, but Eric clearly has that trust long before That ‘70s Show begins. Hyde will share parts of his pain with others to help or comfort them, as he does with Donna in “Red’s Birthday” (2x10), but seeking out or accepting help and comfort from other people? That isn’t his way – except with Eric.
During “Hyde Moves In,” before Edna tells Hyde she’s not coming back, the following scene happens:
ERIC: Hey, Dad, can I talk to you for a second? Do you think that Hyde could stay for dinner?RED: Oh, Eric, again? I can’t afford to feed your friends!I can’t even afford to feed you, but the law requires me to.ERIC: Look, his mom’s out of town.RED: All right. [To Hyde] But you have to fill up on bread! And the two of youare splitting a pork chop!
[Red leaves.]
HYDE: Thanks, man!ERIC: Oh, no problem!” HYDE [playfully]: So, you do know you’re not getting any of that porkchop, right?ERIC [also playfully]: Is that so?
Hyde must have been going hungry for days; otherwise, he wouldn’t have asked Eric if he could stay for dinner. This happens at least twice, and Eric seems very happy he can help, even if it means he gets less food himself. Their banter at the end also demonstrates their closeness. It’s a playfully intimate moment between friends, which is repeated at the end of the episode once Hyde moves into the Formans’ house.
Hyde acts angry that Eric interfered in his life: “This blows, man! When I was living at home, I didn’t have to answer anybody! I made my own rules! You screwed me, Forman! I told you this is none of your business,” but Eric smiles, as if amused, the whole time Hyde rants. He knows Hyde well enough to see through Hyde’s bluster. He’s not put off by Hyde’s seeming ingratitude because he understands that this is Hyde’s defense mechanism. Earlier in the episode, when Eric learns Edna abandoned Hyde:
ERIC: I’m serious here! You need help my friend.HYDE: No, Forman, you would need help. I’ll be fine.
Hyde has had to fend for himself so long that admitting his vulnerability is hard for him. Eric, being the good friend that he is, doesn’t push it. He gives Hyde his help – in the above scene, it’s a sandwich, which Hyde eats as if he’s been starving –  without comment.
In the later scene, after Hyde moves in, Eric sees Hyde’s true face when Mrs. Forman treats Eric and Hyde with equal amounts of love and affection. She gives both of them cocoa, cookies, and kisses to the top of their head. Hyde is visibly happy, but once Kitty leaves, he returns to his angry facade. He’s likely afraid of being seen as weak, which was dangerous in his home with Edna, and this is another part of Hyde that Eric understands. But when Hyde says, “You’re lucky I don’t kick your ass! Are you gonna eat your cookies?” Eric gives Hyde his cookies with an amused smile. He knows his friend and doesn’t take Hyde’s self-protection/survival mechanism personally.
In this episode, we see how much Eric will do to protect Hyde. In the next episode, “The Good Son” (1x25), we see how much Hyde will sacrifice to protect Eric. Throughout the episode, Hyde demonstrates his gratitude to the Formans by doing chores not only willingly but cheerfully. Eric grows jealous and insecure, and this leads him to doing a reckless deed: bouncing a bowling ball from the top of the living room couch.
The bowling ball breaks the TV. Red is furious when he finds out, but Hyde – out of gratitude for all Eric has done for him – tries to take the fall. Even though it possibly means becoming homeless. At worst, Eric would get grounded and have to pay to replace the TV, but Hyde’s consequences would potentially be life-threatening. Hyde doesn’t care, though. His friendship and loyalty to Eric come first.
This dynamic is paralleled in “Reefer Madness” (3x01). Hyde takes the fall for Jackie’s pot and stays quiet about the truth, despite that Red kicks him out of the house because of it. Hyde puts his own physical safety and future last on his list, valuing Jackie’s safety ahead of his own, regardless that the consequences to her would probably be less dire. But Eric can’t let his best friend become homeless.
ERIC [to Hyde]: Man, this is so wrong! Look, I’m not gonna let you get kicked out for something we all do.KELSO: Hey, hey, don’t go dragging me into this.ERIC: You know what? I’m gonna tell Red that I do it, too.HYDE, KELSO, DONNA, FEZ: No!
[…]
ERIC: This can work. If I tell Red, then he’s gonna be a hypocrite for kicking you out – and not making me go with [you]. Because, I mean, he can’t kick me out. Because, deep down, he loves me.HYDE: Look, Forman. I appreciate what you’re trying to do, you know? But you getting into trouble is not going to help me get out of trouble, okay? … Okay?
Eric is the only one out of all their friends who is willing to put himself in danger for Hyde, and Hyde is adamant that Eric not do this. Their friendship, their love, for each other is obvious in this scene.
Eric doesn’t listen to Hyde and does tell Red that he smokes pot, too. Of course, by then, Donna has revealed the truth to Red and Kitty that the pot was Jackie’s. This is Donna’s way of helping Hyde and Eric. She does what Hyde refused to do: rat out Jackie, who doesn’t get into any trouble as we know.
In “Eric’s Depression” (4x02), Eric’s friends want to take him to Funland to cheer him up. Eric says he doesn’t want to go. Hyde and Kelso physically drag Eric out of his bed, but Eric crawls back into it, and Hyde teases him about losing Donna. That seems insensitive, and it is, but joking and sarcasm are two of Hyde’s defense mechanisms when he’s emotionally uncomfortable.
Almost right after this moment, however, the following exchange takes place:
ERIC: Guys, I don’t want to talk about Donna … and I don’t want to go toFunland.HYDE: Fine. If you’re not going with us, we’ll stay here with you.
Hyde sits on the edge of Eric’s bed, willing to stay there in silence, to listen, to talk, or do all of the above for hours. Kelso doesn’t want to do this. Fez’s input isn’t given, but Eric makes clear he doesn’t want company, and Hyde obliges.
Hyde does all he’s capable of doing in that moment to try to help Eric. Even though Eric couldn’t be helped by him, needing his dad instead, that doesn’t invalidate the friendship Hyde shows Eric in this episode – and throughout season 4 as Eric deals with his breakup with Donna.
In “The Third Wheel” (4x11), Hyde breaks up with his girlfriend / fling of the week (i.e. Jill) so that he can be supportive of Eric (through spending time with him). Jill and Eric don’t get along. They treat each other disrespectfully, and Hyde chooses his friendship with Eric over potential of having sex with Jill.
In “Eric’s False Alarm” (4x25), Hyde stays up all night, pulling the fire alarm at the Le Motel so that Donna and Casey won’t have sex the first time. Granted, Hyde probably does this out of trying to protect Donna as much as Eric; and though earlier Hyde is rather sarcastic toward Eric when Eric expresses his dismay at Donna and Casey’s night together, Hyde’s support of Eric is evident through his actions.
“Class Picture” (4x20) is an episode whose flashbacks I don’t treat as canon, except for how Hyde, Eric, and Kelso meet Fez the first time. They contradict too much of what we’d long been told about the characters’ relationships. I do believe that Hyde protected Eric from bullies at school but without needing to be paid. Hyde is shown since “Prom Night” (1x19) to be protective of the vulnerable, whether they’re strangers, people he generally can’t stand, or friends. No way he wouldn’t protect Eric, his closest friend, from harm at school.
Eric and Hyde’s bond is one of my favorites on the show. I enjoy exploring their bond in fanfic. The events of Hyde’s Long Way Home happen, in large part, because of Eric’s absence in Hyde’s life. Eric is a guiding star for Hyde. Without him, Hyde becomes lost.
I see them as viewing each other as brothers, ones who’d go to the ends of the Earth to protect each other, as in my fic Beneath a Shattered Sky.
They need each other in their lives, and they might just be platonic soulmates. Two of the new fanfics I’m writing will explore different aspects of their friendship (and, fate willing, I will finish and post those stories).

@einsteinsugly said: Yay! The whole T9S verse, even with my own personal edits, is just so unfathomable to me. Mostly the Jackie and Kelso parts, because Jackie would never go back to him. Not in a healthy state, anyway.
Jackie deserves so much better than the fate T9S has given her, which is the main reason T9S irks me. If the story was pushed to 1998-9, E/D's daughter wasn't named Leia, and Jackie and Kelso weren't a thing (maybe an offscreen J/H ending, with their daughter joining Lucy [not Leia] on her adventures?), I'd be legitimately excited. Alas, the premise is solid, but the details suck.
Anywho, since Eric and Donna's travel bug was cut short in my TWA verse in 1985 because of Kate, I can totally see them dealing with an unplanned pregnancy. Not in 1980-2, though. Because as I said in my reply to your essay on T9S's premise, I honestly see Donna having an abortion in most cases, since she and Eric are so far from being ready, it would be a disservice to their child. To go through the same turmoil she did.
The only times I see her not having one is if Eric (or Jackie, maybe) spilled the beans about her pregnancy before she could nip it in the bud (like in season 6, if she was pregnant), or if she and Eric were separated (for whatever reason). and her aching heart overruled her head (like in Drops of Jupiter). And Eric wouldn't even fathom naming his daughter Leia, because Leia was a sexual fantasy. Not someone he idolized, like Luke, per se.
To me, the unexpected pregnancy would have to realistically occur between 1983-7. After they're done with college, and are young, traveling professionals (they're working in Cape Town, South Africa in my verse), only for it to be unexpectedly cut short. Speaking of which, I have a bunch of chapters of Ebony and Ivory (the main E/D fic in my verse) written, but I only have three chapters posted. All of my stuff is on AO3 at this point (I only posted on FF in the very beginning), and I have a bunch of ficlets, moodboards, and essays within my verse in the Eric and Donna tag. And the Jackie and Hyde tag. And the Red and Kitty tag...
Yeah, I don’t blame anybody for not being interested in That 90′s Show. Different strokes for different folks, and all that. If Eric and Donna were treated the way Jackie and Hyde are being treated, I’d be effing pissed too.
I think circumstances outside the show/characters led to Jackie and Kelso being written as back together, and that’s really dumb, lol. I’m with you - Jackie could have appeared alone without mentioning any romantic partner, so it’s all left up to fans’ imaginations. Or sure, mention that she’s going home to Hyde off-screen. But the writers/producers have shown that they don’t have that kind of creativity, unfortunately. They were unwilling to do it when Topher left in season 8, too.
I have a lot of questions about That 90′s Show and skepticism too, but hey, I haven’t even seen it yet so what do I know? I’m going to reserve judgement until it comes out. Maybe it will suck. Maybe it will be great. Probably somewhere in between. I will take what I like and use it for inspiration, and I’ll ignore the rest, same as always with this show. It has disappointed me before and I’m sure it will again, but that’s why fanfic exists!
I don’t think Donna would get an abortion, but there are a lot of different ways to interpret the characters and of course we’re each entitled to our own. When she thought she was pregnant in the show, abortion wasn’t something that seemed to be on the table. The characters all sort of acted like it was inevitable that if Donna was pregnant, she’d be having the baby. Brooke and Kelso’s unexpected pregnancy was treated the same way. Roe v. Wade happened in 1973 so abortion was certainly legal and available (especially in cities probably, like Madison, Milwaukee or Chicago) but I don’t think it was by any means common. At least, not in Point Place.
I think Donna would be well informed about her options, though, and I think she would think about them seriously if something like this happened. I also think that finishing college would be a deal-breaker for her. And she wouldn’t want to rush into marriage, just because she was being rushed into parenthood. Eric would have to react better than he did last time, too. I think he’s capable of acting more maturely, though, and I also think that fatherhood would be something Eric would take seriously and would be the catalyst for him to finally grow up.
Hmm, I think their kid would be raised with a lot of love and support, not only from Eric and Donna but from Red and Kitty. I bet Leia had a pretty happy childhood (albeit imperfect). One of the things I’m looking forward to about That 90′s Show - other than Eric and Donna’s on-screen reunion! - is seeing Red and Kitty interact with their granddaughter. I have a feeling they helped an awful lot when Leia was small.

MistyMountainHop’s That ‘70s Show Fanfic that Never Was: #12
Note: I likely came up with this idea after reading heatherlea75‘s T7S stories many years ago. The initial premise reminds me of her fic For Her Sake.
Jackie Is Missing
Jackie Fakes Her Death Jackie and Hyde are married. They have a young infant child (maybe eight-months old). Jackie's father has gotten into some bad business, which causes her life to be threatened. Jack helps her fake her own death, even using a corpse in her stead. Hyde is left to raise their son on his own. He's completely devastated by her death. He doesn't know how he's going to raise their son alone. Kitty, Donna, Eric, and W.B., Angie, and even Red say he won't be doing it alone -- he'll be doing it with them. So the first part of the story follows him raising the kid with his family and friends' help. After Jackie's “death,” Hyde begins to shut down. He's an emotional robot. Eric tells him he can't do that. Eric says, “Don't raise your son the way Red raised me.” Hyde says Eric turned out fine. Twitchy, but fine. Eric asks if Hyde wants his son to turn out twitchy, too. Hyde doesn't.
Eric also reminds Hyde how Hyde felt growing up with his alcoholic parents. Does he really want to do that to the child he shares with Jackie? Hyde says no. And this wakes him up. But it also means he's in constant pain from the loss of Jackie. Hyde's quicker to anger than he used to be, but as the years go on, he regains a good portion of his emotional distance back, his Zen. Not all of it, though. As the kid becomes a toddler, everyone says that the kid looks so much like Hyde, but all Hyde can see is Jackie. The kid has blond hair, but this darkens as he gets older to Jackie's brunette. The kid does have Hyde's curly hair, though. When Jackie “dies,” Donna is pregnant with her first child. She wanted to share that news with Jackie but never got the chance. Jackie, however, is not dead. Jack goes to her hiding place and relates how her funeral went. Jackie doesn't want to hear it. But Jack stole Hyde's eulogy about her. Jackie's surprised he wrote anything down. Jack says Hyde didn't stick strictly to the eulogy, but the same sentiment is there. Jackie can't bring herself to read it. She stuffs it deep into a drawer. Jackie is very nauseous. She and Hyde had made love before Jack told her she had to “die”. She breastfed her son (using a breast pump) and falsely believed she couldn't get pregnant while breast-feeding. So she and Hyde didn't use protection. Turns out she's pregnant. Jackie freaks out. She says she has to go back to Steven and their son. She can't deprive them or this child of their family. Jack says she has to if she wants her children to survive. Jackie eventually gives birth to a daughter. Next part of the story, Hyde's son is seventeen. He's been affected more by Hyde's grief at Jackie’s absence more than Jackie’s absence itself. In the son's POV, we get that Hyde has this broken piece inside that's never healed. But the son also feels very loved by Hyde. The love/affection Hyde felt for Jackie, he gives to their son. Hyde's overprotective because of what happened to Jackie. This has created a rebellious streak in his son. He’s very much like Hyde. How is he like Jackie, though? When Hyde tells his son the dangers of smoking pot, the son argues that Hyde was a major burnout as a teenager. Hyde says that pot was different then. It's been bred to be way more potent. As usual, people fuck up a good thing. The son knows he looks a lot like his dad. But he looks at pictures of his mom to see how he looks like her. He also asks Hyde what Jackie was like. Hyde tells him. The son also sees happy pictures of Hyde and Jackie together. This has a strong effect on him. Hyde did date during his son's childhood; he had plenty of sex. But no relationships stuck until, maybe, when son was sixteen. Hyde might have a woman living with him; first serious relationship. Maybe it's someone we know from the show. Hyde felt okay to do it once son reached fifteen and was more independent. Hyde raised his son next door to Eric and Donna. Son became best friends with Eric and Donna's daughter. She has low self-esteem when it comes to her looks -- like her dad. Donna's always taught her to value things beyond her appearance. The girl is very, very smart. She has Donna's blue eyes and Eric's brown hair. She has Donna's temper and playfulness, and Eric's depreciating sense of humor and compassion. And Hyde's son is in love with her. But Eric and Donna's daughter thinks she has “a goofy face” because “nothing's symmetrical”. One of her eyes is slanted slightly to the right. The bridge of her nose is curved. One breast is bigger than the other, etc. But Hyde's son likes that. To him, that makes her even more attractive. He likes what breaks from the carbon-copy, plastic, sterile societal idea of perfection (so much like Hyde). Donna and Eric's kid is eight months younger than Hyde's son. She's in the grade below him. That summer, though, Hyde's son goes to rock n' roll camp and meets his sister. He feels instantly connected to her, and that scares him. She looks like Jackie except she has Hyde's blond hair and steel-blue eyes. He's spooked. When he goes home, he tells Eric and Donna's daughter he met someone who looks so much like his mom. She was a loudmouth, too, like Hyde told him Jackie could be.
Eric and Donna's daughter gets jealous, says, “Did you kiss her loudmouth?” Hyde's son says Eric's daughter is sick. He couldn't hook up with someone who looks like his mom. Hyde's son is unsure if he should share this info with his dad. His dad finally seems, if not happy, less pissed off with his girlfriend. Hyde's son doesn't want to open up this can of worms. Eventually, though, the son tells Hyde about it. Or Hyde's son maintains contact with this girl, through letters, and invites her to where he lives to bring her guitar, hang out, and jam, etc. Jackie's daughter was unnerved by the boy she met at that camp. Jackie told her Hyde was dead. She also said his name was “James,” not Hyde or Steven. Jackie never showed her pictures in case her daughter wanted to seek him out (worried she didn't trust Jackie's story about him being dead). Jackie's daughter also thinks that her last name is what Jackie's current fake last name is. And she doesn't know Jackie's real first name. So when Hyde's son asks her her mother's name, she tells him a name other than Jackie, and that crushes Hyde's son's theory. Hyde's son, though, theorizes that maybe his mom's alive. His friends, including Kelso's twin sons, think his conspiracy imagination is acting up again. Hyde's son was raised around Kelso's family, too. Betsy was always the untouchable, unattainable  hot chick. Fez and Laurie's son is their friend, too. Eric and Donna had a son seven years after their daughter. Hyde's son is protective of him. When Jackie's daughter tells Jackie about Hyde's son, Jackie breaks down. She knows exactly who her daughter’s talking about, the name, the physical appearance, and the behavior give him away. She hasn't seen her son in over sixteen years. Jackie's grief is re-opened, and she weeps, and her daughter freaks out a little. Eric may not like that his daughter is dating Hyde's son. Eric thinks Hyde's son is too much like Hyde was pre-Jackie. Hyde gets pissed at this. And later, Hyde's son proves how great he is. He protects Eric and Donna's daughter and/or their son from being hurt by a dangerous situation or person. Jackie only comes out of hiding when the people after her dad are dead -- or she believes they're dead. They might have pulled the same trick on her as she had on them. Jackie became a florist when she went into hiding. A humble florist, someone says, and she says, “Hardly.” She entered contests (rose, etc.) and got high/top honors. Jackie, Hyde, and their children eventually reunite. Hyde, like Jackie, didn't know Jackie was pregnant when she faked her own death. When he learns of his daughter, tears rise to his eyes. He can't help it. He has a girl, Jackie's girl. But the tears aren't just joy. He missed out on (however many) years of her life, her firsts. She didn't have her daddy around to protect her. She grew up without a dad like he did; even when Bud was living with him and his mom, Bud wasn't really present. Hyde also gets worried about the kind of men Jackie brought around their daughter. Hyde grew up with a succession of “uncles,” some better than others, but most were pretty horrible. Jackie reassures him, though, that she didn't date anyone -- which may not have been the best thing. Their daughter doesn't have a great view of men -- or boys.
Which is something her brother will help her with, enough for her to start connecting with Hyde. But Hyde's influence sweeps through her strong, deep, and quick. It's remarkable, and Jackie is grateful for both Hyde and their son's effect on their daughter. Jackie's daughter is also angry at Jackie for keeping her away from her father and brother all these years, even though she also fiercely loves her mom. Jackie is a great mom. So the daughter represses her anger at her mom. She feels guilty for this anger because she understands, intellectually at least, that her mom hid them to protect them.
So who draws out her anger? Her brother. Her brother says feelings are complex, often crashing into each other and making a mess. He got that understanding from his dad, but he doesn't share this fact with his sister (not yet) because she's not into trusting Hyde yet. But once she starts engaging with Hyde, she realizes her brother is so much like their father and that he got a lot of his wisdom from Hyde (not all, though). Jackie and Hyde's daughter's first impression of Hyde: He was a quiet man, on the outside at least. Or maybe he was just guarded, assessing situations before acting. Eventually, she sees how gentle Hyde can be and how fiercely protective of the vulnerable he was -- like her brother.
