It took me this long to make a ship chart thing for this two but I finally did it lmaooo I know like most people here doesnt seem to favor this ship of mine (like I always feel that people prefer Utonium and Chloe) but shhh I don't think I cover this ship enough because 1) I forgor and 2) i don't think about them often despite drawing them quite a lot recently so hopefully making this helps me out with ideas on what they really are

This post is longggg so headcanons undercut hhhh

For this AU, since I did mention this being a Modern AU, it's not related to canon at all. So no monsters fucking around, no Aku fucking around, no time travel to the future bullshit, we are giving Jack the rest that he deserves lol so just think of this AU like me just putting Jack in a slice of life situation. I don't want to think of anything heavy plot wise because I am not a very creative person and I can't handle too much angst, I want him to be happy. As usual, I don't think of this through, my rough idea is that Jack is an immigrant that moves to another country just to support his family back home but also I have another idea that Jack is actually stinking rich because of his family but he lives frugally and he loves having a simple job and life where he lives comfortably just like regular people. Another dumbfuck idea of mine is that he is actually the son of the owner of the company that Chev works for and he got placed in the overseas branch and work as a low level staff for 2 years to gain experience and trust from his dad and he has to keep a low profile in the company so people didn't find out about it and use him. Again, idk I haven't think of a permanent idea hhh Jack has always been mysterious to people so his background will remain an open idea for now hsksjslqkalql (but i really love the son of the owner idea cough cough)

Another mystery here would be Jack's last name. Idk his last name and even in canon we dk his last name and I actually think that's fun? I wanted to make Jack look like a mysterious person to Chev because he rarely disclose anything about his background and that includes his actual last name so it's nice that I can omit his last name here.

As I stated before, they are not dating. I honestly still can't see them dating yet BUT I do see them having a mutual feelings towards each other and I also see them being in a "friends with benefit" situation but minus the sleeping around? Idk I haven't decide thoroughly on this either but I imagine that they do cuddle occassionally (cuddle buddy? Is that a thing? Idk) but never more than that, they both liked each other but both seems to either try to restrain their feelings or keep it a secret while still act like they are besties lol. Perhaps one day I will think of how they would eventually date or when I feel comfortable enough to change the status to romantic f/o lol

With that being said, since they are technically close friends, Jack occasionally do sleep over at Chev's apartment so that's the closest thing either both of them experience living with domesticity. Jack leaves some of his items there including his pjs and personal hygiene stuff like razors and toothbrush since he sleeps there almost every weekend if Chev's not busy. He also does his laundry at her apartment since he has no washing machine in his own apartment and Chev did tell him to visit her whenever he wants to clean his clothes. Both of them also don't go out often since Chev prefers staying at home and rest during the weekends but on occassion they do go out and go cafe hopping around town trying to look for the best bagel and sushi that doesn't cost them 3 easy payments of $195.95 + your first born

Jack also seems to be an ambivert to me. He can be complacent with silence and company all by himself and he can also sit down talking excitedly with a stranger he just met because they wear the same shirt at the bar. Chev in the other hand is suprisingly reclusive. She actually doesn't really enjoy small talks and prefers being left alone to her own thought. She also actually have a hard time befriending people due to how she seems to look offhandish most of the time when in reality she is just tired and she also unfortunately has the curse of RBF hhhh she still thinks it funny that she ended up befriending Jack since how the polar opposite they can be personality-wise.

I already mentioned this before but in case people missed it (and I sure ppl do hhh) Chev is an old OC that I revived because I'm too lazy to create a new one so I still keep some of her old personality and mannerism and that also includes her sexuality. She likes women and men and have dated 2 girls previously. She always leans on women though so when she starts to catch feelings on Jack she feels a bit conflicted and I imagine that she always denies her feelings towards him to the point she tries to avoid him at one point which kinda hurt him and hhh I think thats the conflict I want to put in their relationship lol

I actually don't want to write Jack's sexuality initially because he probably doesn't know it or care about it and then it clicked on me: He doesn't care about preferences at all, he loves everyone hdjdjskskal no no listen shhhh he always seem to be open minded to me and I can see that he also doesn't really care or mind about who he's attracted to. If he happens to like the cute receptionist guy at the counter so be it, he is going to like him. If he likes the florist he greets and passes by everyday to work he is going to like them, he really didn't care about anyone's gender, he sees everyone as equal to him just like in canon when he encounters various creatures and species and he sees them all as people he needs to help.

Most of the ideas for this AU is still in progress and I change the story a lot unlike my headcanons for Chloe and Utonium so I hope you guys would bare with me and my indecisiveness 🥲 I also hope you guys would like this ship too because I know they are pretty boring compare to others because I am not as creative as other people but it means a lot to me of people like them 🤧🤧🥲🥲🥲💕💕💕

an announcement!

*After many weeks of consideration, I've decided that this blog will no longer be actively posting threads or my replies to them. I've come to this decision for many reasons - the pressures of my new job, the needs of my family members that take up my time when not working, the regular and nonsensical changes inflicted upon us, the 'glitches' we have to constantly work around and unfortunately, the often toxic atmosphere around some elements of rp'ing.

I'm not archiving or leaving this blog altogether - I'll still pop by every so often, probably a lot less often than I've been managing to do lately, I'll send some asks from time to time, post pics, maybe even a couple of memes that seem interesting and any asks that I get as a result but, as for threads, these won't be replied to any further.

That being said, if we have a thread or multiple ones and you have discord, I'm happy to move writing together to there. For me, discord provides the 'fuss free, spontaneous and no way obligatory' environment that was present on tumblr when I began rp'ing here. I appreciate that it doesn't for everyone, but that's just how it is for me.

So, if you'd like to discuss moving our thread to discord, please feel free to IM and we can get that sorted?

For those who don't use discord, please know that I will miss writing with you very much and this is no way any kind of commentary on either your talent, muse or approach to rp'ing.......this is just something I have to do for myself, at this stage of my life.

I'll also give myself the option of changing my mind in the future on this, hence why I'm not archiving or deleting the blog.

It's been a fun nearly-ten years here (between the old and this present blog) and who knows, giving myself this freedom might make me feel less obligated and therefore, more free to commit to be here more but, I have to be honest, that doesn't seem likely to me at this point.

Anyways, I wish you all well and hope that on the rare occassions here in the future, you'll still interact by posting whatever I might send you and send me stuff in return.

My take on a human-ish DJMM!

human ish because in this guy's lore he's actually genetically modified, and is specifically one of the first ever to get genetically modified, leading to a couple deformities.

One that was able to get fixed is that one pair of his hands were where his feet were supposed to be and vice versa in some colossal fuckup, but another deformity is the reason for his sunglasses- [[SCOPOPHOBIA BEWARE]]

His crazy dilated eyes!

His eyes are so dilated that seeing in just a well-lit room is the equivalent of looking directly into the sun. His glasses do not dim light but completely block it, protecting his eyes so he can use them in the rare occasions where he CAN see.

Those occassions being in near or complete darkness. Like his house, which is almost completely dark with no windows, no lightbulbs, with only heavily dimmed electronics.

That being said, the darkness isn't what makes being there scary, its the fact that this 12-foot-tall, 58 year old man moves in complete silence and will only make his prescence known. either by accident or if he wants to make it known.

But that's not the only old man I have today.

Huuuuuge maestro DJMM - 78 feet tall and no longer technically human, a giant robot made in the early 1900's ( i dont even KNOW how that would work historically with the great depression and allat ) with an entire symphony held inside him that's played by internal machinations inside him, and is viewed by bigass window in his chest. However, he's the size of a building - There's a shelter in the "floor" below the stage with a hammock and tons of storage stuff.

He can just open up the window and plop you onstage and allow you to just go down the dumbwaiter from there but there's also a little doorway in his mouth that leads there.

Since he's, yknow, ancient (and is the inspiration for the future creation of DJMM in his AU) he's actually held in the mini-museum in Security Breach. Though, now that it's been a century since his prime, he's quite lonely on account of the fact that tours inside him are prohibited due to deterioration and safety concerns (a first for Fazbear Entertainment... lmao), and wishes that he had someone to play music for in the refuge inside him.

so, the other day there was another one of those "sam shouldn't be cap, they should make the most of him as the falcon" posts in the tag and some adjacent stuff has been legit straight up haunting me so I guess i'm going to write about it for some ungodly number of words

i) Concern Trolling (Part 1)

The obvious thing straight off the bat is that this is such a disingenuous take. It has all the trademarks of "here's a appropriate-sounding reason for me to take the same position as the reactionary racists without sounding racist myself". It's textbook. They're not opposed to the idea of a Black man leading the avengers and taking on this important title, they're just concerned that they're not doing the character of the Falcon justice. Like, come on. You can smell the bullshit from here.

Now, I don't know this person's mind, and it's likely that they believe what they're saying (weirdly enough, most concern trolls do, to some extent). Moreover, it's possible that they are the rare example of someone who genuinely just happens to have a specific belief that alligns with the reactionaries, but it's just this one thing and they have good reasons for it.

So... let's explore that possibility. What good reasons are there to object to Sam's time as cap?

ii) Is Being Cap Bad for Sam's Writing?

There is this irratating phenomenon from Sam's cap era where he'll be pushed into a role that was clearly written for Steve. This ranges from dialogue choices to physical roles in action scenes. Sam is not super strong - he's a super acrobat and friend to all the woodland creatures. Sam is not a military man - he's a social worker. Sam's politics are more cynical, and more radical than Steve's. Sam's more sarcastic, more of a complainer, but also more flamboyant and more "free-wheeling".

Many of his appearances as cap flatten Sam, make him honestly kind of boring at times. The writing is just whatever bog-standard captain america thing they thought of and Sam's own personality is absent. This is most common in Avengers storylines, where he's not the focus, but even Symbol of Truth - a series ostensively about Sam - ended with the villain monologuing about how Sam "thinks he's america's greatest patriot". And, like, no. No he doesn't. Even for a villain line it doesn't work because it's not just wrong, it's irrelevant. That line could work if directed at Steve (depending on the context), but makes no sense with Sam. He doesn't think he's a great patriot, because he isn't, because he thinks patriotism is dumb. Like, it's kind of his core feature when he's first introduced lol.

What's happening here is that Sam is being handed over to writers who don't know him well, and in some cases don't care about him and maybe even don't like him. This leads to bad writing, ooc appearances and a general sense of a wasted opportunity.

There's a point (made in the original post that got me started on this), that the captain america role is inherently limiting and maybe even inherently boring. I don't agree (see part v), but I would agree that in practice, the role has been limiting on Sam's character and, on multiple occassions, constrained his writing.

iii) The Two Caps Thing

This is something I've complained about before, but the obvious problem with samcap is the shitshow that has resulted from having him and Steve "share" the title.

There is nothing wrong with it in concept, the problem is entirely in how it's played out in practice.

Steve is in a new comic every week, often more than one, often plastered all over the cover. He appears in crossover events, and is often featured heavily in other hero/team's stories. On top of this he has cameos, ranging from small appearances to more meaty roles.

In this same time period, Sam was in Symbol of Truth, and now Avengers. No other series featured him. You'd see him once a month at most. He has cameo appearances in this time, but only a handful. These cameos have been often wordless appearances, or contain a line or two of generic dialogue.

This is ridiculous. It's embarrassing for Marvel. It's an absolute shitshow. They are not "sharing" the title. Functionally, as far as Marvel comics has been concerned for the last two years, Steve has been Captain America and Sam has been barely present.

iv) Concern Trolling (Part 2 - a.k.a. Why the last two points are redundant)

The obvious thing to point out, is that none of this would be any better if Sam was still the falcon, because it's been happening the entire time.

Sam being written badly? Been there since arguably the beginning. Sam being written ooc because the writers don't care about him? Since the 80s at least. Sam being a stock military tough guy? The 00s called and want their ideas back. Sam barely being featured in preference for more wanking over Steve? Yeah, that's literally the late 70s when Jack Kirby took over the series for a stint, and it only got more common from then.

Due to a combination of factors (let's be clear - Racism is the big one), Sam's been written terribly on many occasions since his introduction. And, for the same reasons, he also just doesn't get featured as much, and gets shelved and ignored a whole bunch. It ends up creating a vicious cycle, where Sam isn't around, so no one thinks to include him, and when they do, they don't read anything about him because they don't care, which then leads to them portraying him blandly or even ooc, which does him no favours and makes writers less willing to include him.

Obviously there is still plenty of good Sam writing out there, but my point is that all the problems we see in his cap era are the same problems that have been around for decades. The 00s in particular were bad for literally all marvel Sam's character.

Honestly, I personally think that if Sam had never become cap, he'd barely be in comics nowadays at all.

So, if someone says "i'd rather Sam was the falcon, so that they could explore his unique personality and backstory, and not saddle him with illfitting tropes and bland characterisation - and so they could really give him attention and focus on him" - yeah, that sounds great but it would never happen, and if you have any familiarity with this character's history, you'd know that. It was standard practice to ignore and under-write Sam as the falcon; what on earth makes you think that pushing him back to that (less prominant) role would fix anything?

I think that's why I find it impossible to take this position seriously. If you're a fan of the character, you'd know that the idea of the falcon being done justice by marvel is an unrealistic fantasy. It's hard not to assume that someone is being disingenuous when they suggest it.

v) Is Being Cap Good for Sam's Writing?

If we let this conversation get a little more abstract for a second, and not about Marvel themselves (and the decisions of writers and editors and marketers etc.), there's still a question of whether having Sam be captain america is a good creative decision in and of itself.

I mentioned before how Sam is not a patriot, and he openly derides the whole cap thing throughout the 70s. So, you could say that there's something ooc about him being cap... but I'd disagree. Sam's decision in 616 (and MCU while we're here) was made after Steve asked him to do this, leading to his own mixed thought process on the matter. I think that's good drama. Sometimes having a character be pushed into doing something they wouldn't normally do is good actually, because it puts them out of their comfort zone and gives us a story.

Similarly, his move to become cap again recently was also because of a push, a pressured decision - this time from Misty and the Avengers.

Sam's 2015 series is genuinely great. The art is great, the characterisation is strong, and it bridges the gap between Sam in the 70s and the present day in a really satisfying way - it feels rooted in him as a character in a way so much of his writing isn't. Is it perfect? No, but it is good. And I bring it up here to make a very important point: having Sam be cap opens up an entire range of storytelling possibilities that aren't there with him as falc.

It changes his position relative to other superheroes, it changes his relationship with Steve, it makes him more important in people's eyes - it's Sam in a different, more complicated stage in his life. A stage where he's beholden to more people, has different responsibilities. It's good, actually.

Like, I get that this is heresy in comic book world but yes sometimes changing the status quo is good, actually.

vi) Clinging Onto the Falcon

I do think that Sam's unique history as the Falcon should not be abandoned in favour of the cap stuff. He's a bird prince and a free wheeling flyboy and all of that. That past identity is still his, even if he's using a different title.

One thing that has bothered me in the post samcap era is that sometimes Redwing is treated like he's Joaquin's now. Like, Redwing is a full on person with human-level intelligence and one of Sam's closest friends, and sometimes he gets treated like an accessory to hand over to the new falcon. It's weird and dumb. In general, Joaquin has a different relationship to the whole bird thing to Sam, and his character isn't a one-to-one replacement for him. Just like how Sam is not anything like a replacement for Steve. Fundamentally, they play different roles.

Redwing is still Sam's partner, the bird thing is still Sam's schtick, the Falcon is still kind of Sam's identity - it's just shared. And I think remembering this - bringing all the aspects of sam's identity together - is part of the solution to the less than satisfying writing we've been seeing.

vii) Conclusion....???

There's nothing inherent to Sam being Captain America that makes him difficult to write well, and the premise is actually a great springboard for storylines that do centre him and respect him. Do they all do that currently? No, but the problem there is upstream of what superhero title he has.

What Sam needs is basically just more material - he needs a new solo (which I would assume he'll be getting between now and the film release because bRaNd sYnErGy), he needs other substantial appearances outside of that, he needs multiple writers throwing their towel in the ring and giving a more varied perspective, and maybe needs a couple of memos from editorial with some guidelines on characterisation (and art).

Like, ok I am basically saying that in order to fix unsatisfying writing, the writing needs to be better. But yeah. Whatever, it was like a one sentence post that set me off on this...

Now that there are intimacy coordinators on film and tv sets it seems like such an obvious thing to have and it's shocking that it took 50+ years after the Hays code was abolished to implement such a system. So I wonder if it's time to talk about another area where producers continue to fail, namely, their responsibility towards actors to make sure intimate scenes or scenes with nudity do not get mis-used, taken out of the film's context.

Name any nude or near nude scene in a film and the chances are someone's shared it online. And while producers keep saying they'll prosecute people for watching films illegally, as time goes by, they keep making it easier for us to pull out gifs, film clips, etc (from video to dvd to downloadable digital files). Not only do those snippets and screenshots get shared for free but they also indirectly promote the film and make more money for the producers. When unofficial film screenshots of an actor's private parts shared by consumers = more money for the producers, then surely it's exploitation on the part of the people who ought to have protected it! Because, bear in mind, the actor/actress never gave consent to those images of them being used in the way that we are using them when we post stuff online. It's become a cultural norm to consume media in this way but it isnt what the artists consented to.

For comparison, think of stage actors and actresses. Their work is never taken out of context because of the rules against photography in theatres. And on the rare occassions that a stage production has an official recording the scenes that are ususally done nude are done with modesty patches etc. Theatre people seem to be better at protecting their artists' performances and intentions.

tldr: Producers need to protect actors' performances and take steps so that consumers cannot share intimate scenes pulled out from a film (and it's trailers)

postscript: yes i know we're nowhere near this becoming a reality but hypothetically speaking moviemakers owe actors that sort of duty of care, no?

apologies that i dont reblog others content as much as id like to :[ for both here and my sideblog. i dont really browse tumblr, i tend to come here and make a post, then close the app and go do something else, i sometimes browse on the bus or when i'm waiting for something tho and ill tend to rb stuff then ^^

dont be disheartened or think i dont like u, i probably just dont see ur posts 💔 i understand if thats why some moots stopped reblogging me too, it's a give and get system and my social media use patterns often make me look a bit callous or one sided when i really just dont like scrolling or browsing really :[ i dont call it "mindless scrolling" in malice, it's just not something i feel comfy doing or being on my phone much as it wicks me out and sends me a bit south if im not using my day for proactive means etc. i only really use social media to post, but if i am browsing on rare occassion and i see my moots posting art i will definitely rb! i understand if thats why some of yall stopped tho and ur welcome to not do if u feel like ur not being reciprocated by me and my general discomfort of browsing / scrolling social media ;w;

reciprocation is a huge moral discomfort and dilemma for me and if im not reciprocating what i receive i feel immense guilt and shame. it is only fair if u stopped giving out reblogs to me bc i am never browsing online to give it back

it's always nice to reblog even if i dont have the mental stamina to browse and return the favour sometimes but my guilt complex about reciprocation denotes it fair that i dont receive what i dont give back after all, regardless of my reasons why

In another post about the Main 4 South Park headcanons, I mentioned how I liked the headcanon of Cartman and Kenny as bestfriends so much that I was gonna make another post about it. Here is that post!

Cartman and Kenny Bestfriend Headcanons:

- As I said in my other posts, Cartman and Kenny love musical theatre but will hide their love of it from Stan and Kyle. To add on to this, due to his uh “musical talents” Cartman writes musicals and Kenny performs them. (He did this in the Hellen Keller episode actually). Sometimes Cartman will join Kenny, both of them dressed as alters of themselves. They have a great time :)

- Kenny’s parents hate Cartman (most people do), so whenever they hang out, they hangout at Eric’s house. Kenny doesn’t mind cause Cartman has more stuff anyway. Sometimes if Eric is in a really good mood he’ll let Kenny keep something for a bit. Though he ends up forgetting about it and Kenny keeps whatever he’s been given.

- Kenny owns a copy of Faith +1′s first album. Despite being presented on Kyle’s side of the bet in that episode, he definitely got a copy.

- If on the rare occassion that Cartman is found at Kenny’s house, Karen will be over the moon. Kenny knows Karen loves Cartman because he is “like a huge teddybear” and she will hug him all the time. Cartman doesn’t love the situation- But doesn’t want to get in trouble by doing anything drastic. Kenny thinks it’s adorable-

- THEY DRESS UP TOGETHER. The prominent figures in South Park who dress up as the opposite sex are Kenny, Cartman and Butters out of the kids. But we aren’t talking about Butters so,,, Anyway, Princess Kenny and Bad Irene are bad bitches and they hang out and get ready together. Kenny is better at hair than Cartman so he’ll let Kenny do his wig for him. Cartman is better at makeup so he’ll force Kenny to let him do his-

- In class they only really pass notes to eachother. Sure, they would pass a note to Kyle, but he’d get mad at the interruption, and Stan never really cared about the notes in general. So they pass lengthy notes to eachother that are actually just long pieces of paper scrunched up. They usually entail Kenny’s many perverted thoughts, their taunts of teachers and students, and just general conversations about their common interests such as video games or TV shows.

- You know those games you used to play in class as a kid, like, you and a couple other people would take turns saying a profanity, getting louder and louder every time until someone ends up getting in trouble. Yea, tha’st times 10 for these two- Kenny and Cartman love the classic’s like the one mentioned previously (Kenny always wins because no one can tell what he is saying), but they also have their own versions. Whether it be who can get away with the most life destroying pranks or who can get away with breaking more rules in a day. They have their own little olympics of mischief!

- Kenny will rant to Cartman about his current love interests and uh “desires,” characteristic of the Kenny from the actual show. Although Cartman has no interest in love affairs at all, he’ll listen to Kenny and provide mostly unbiased “feedback” (I can’t exactly call it advice) on the situation. Kenny appreciates being listened to.

- “Kinny, I’m going to be honest, your girlfriend is a whore.” “I don’t think she’s that hot.” “No- Kinny don’t go after that bitch-” See they aren’t really advice,but they are definitely something.

- “It is possible that Kenny is Cartman's only real friend and he does not understand how to react to having such a friend,” This is a quote from Eric Cartman’s Wiki (linked), this is the basis for my next headcanon: Cartman truly considers Kenny a friend, yet treats him so poorly because he doesn’t really understand why he likes Kenny or what those feelings of compassion and friendship may be. Such as in the episode where Cartman meets the people who have asses for faces and he feels genuine remorse for making Kenny pose as their missing child, yet instead of admitting that he feels bad, he instead says that he has lost his sense of humour. I think the same may apply to many emotions, such as his compassion or love for people/things. He may not understand why he likes hanging around Kenny, or considers him his best friend, which may make him defensive and act cruel as usual.

the others call him "the magician" or sometimes just mage. i have a post in drafts about all their nicknames that i need to finalize. anyway im gonna call him Mage from now on

he seems to somehow know everything and have an item for every occassion. he's not the leader type but I think the group does rely on him a lot for info. it's a lot of *no one knows what to do* *slowly looks at mage**weary sigh*

he is very quiet, speaks rarely, and communicates in sign a lot. When he does speak he's very straightforward and blunt

mostly doesn't use his sword if he can help it, so everyone forgets that he's good with it. but he is a very good swordsman

everyone says he looks so cool and regal and like he is but he is also a giant nerd. he gets stars in his eyes when they find cool magic stuff

he used to be a lot more expressive but has learned in his travels that a poker face suits him

a bit jaded but still has a genuine love for adventure

Fair warning: it's a long post. Let's examine some of the reasons that Kara has cited why she didn't tell Lena the super secret:

1. She wanted to protect her

Now, this one has some legs on it as Kara specifically mentions it in S3 during a conversation with James and Mon-El. And there's definitely some truth to it. But it's also bullshit. Lena was in constant danger and put herself at risk to save/protect Kara who didn't actually need it. In fact, the first time Lena's mentioned (not shown just mentioned) it's in regards to the venture explosion - something that happened because Lex was trying to kill her. People have been trying to kill, kidnap, manipulate, threaten Lena since minute one. Knowing Kara = SG would not have severely worsened any of that. In fact, it might've helped ease Lena's anxieties and resulted in her taking less risks with her life. In fact, I'm surprised Lena didn't think that Kara's association with her was putting Kara at risk (a far more likely thing).

The 100th episode addresses this to some degree in one of the AUs. Lena tells Kara that she wouldn't have had to risk her life dealing with Sam/Reign alone if she'd known the truth and she's absolutely right. And sure, Lena could've told SG and the DEO when she pieced Reign = Sam together but ask yourself, why would she? What assurance did she have that the DEO would not have treated her BEST FRIEND like a hostile instead of someone in need of help? The DEO is guilty of this and they have a history of locking up aliens indefinitely and on occassion straight up murder. After Reign nearly killed their biggest asset (i.e. SG) why in the hell would Lena trust them with helping Sam? She wouldn't nor should she have. She didn't know that she could go to SG because remember, Lena doesn't think of her the same way she does of Kara. SG is not her best friend. She doesn't have a personal, humanized relationship with her (at least not that she knows of). And obviously she's not going to tell Kara the human reporter with the DEO agent sister about it either. And the kryptonite? SG lost her shit over it even though she's been working with the DEO who stockpiled the stuff until SM left with it (a dumbass move that would've bit them so hard in the ass with the WK situation if it weren't for Lena's kryptonite!). Plus, Kara didn't have an issue with Oliver having a kryptonite arrow, J'onn having a sword. But Lena? How dare she!

So yea no. I get that "I kept my secret to protect you" is a popular thing in the hero world but in the case of Kara and Lena, it doesn't make sense and it did make situations unnecessarily harder.

2. She didn't trust Lena

This is mentioned by Kara to William in a deleted scene from S5 but I think it's worth exploring. I'm not sure to what extent Kara means with this but it could be referring to the moments as SG where she did display a distrust of Lena's intentions and she used Lena's personal relationships against her (i.e. asking James to break into Lena's lab). I mentioned the S3 shitshow with the kryptonite which is where a lot of this started but there's also other scenes in that same season where SG pretty much calls into question the so-called trust she has in Lena despite claiming otherwise. The switch was so abrupt the minute she learned Lena not only had but knew how to make kryptonite. Did anyone ever consider why Lena would bother learning how to make kryptonite? I'd hazard a guess that it was something she was looking into even before Sam/Reign. I think she happened to find Lex's stock and she decided to learn how it works and why it affects the Supers like it does. That would explain how Lena seems to be the ONLY ONE able to make an anti-kryptonite suit and other viable forms of the rock (i.e. Harun el). But no, SG and others immediately jump to the worst conclusions and associate the endeavour with Lena's last name, something SG KNOWS Lena is sensitive about it. And then the harun el. SG was suddenly fine with Lena making it when it was to split Sam from Reign and save Argo from extinction. But when it was used for something else that Lena didn't clue her in on (and what do you know, Alex, Brainy and James didn't either and they KNEW what Lena was doing with it) she got back on her high horse and the distrust became front and centre. You can't trust Lena as Kara and then immediately distrust her as SG and expect her to be accepting of this dichotomy. I'm surprised the woman managed to retain her sanity.

And still, this reasoning doesn't quite hit the mark in comparison to every other insistence of Kara believing in Lena (from day one she even told Clark that she believed Lena after meeting her for the first time). But the contrasting opinions and actions must have given Lena pause. I don't blame her to call into question which version of the truth was real and choosing to believe the worst. It's what SG and the SFs have been doing to her.

3. She was wary of Lena

This isn't an explicitly given reason but I do think it's how the secret keeping started in S2. Frankly, I don't even blame Kara for not showing her full deck in the beginning because she (and even us as an audience) didn't know much about Lena beyond wanting to do good and not be like her family. So no, Kara not telling Lena in the beginning actually makes sense to me (though she told Nia in a split second but that's neither here nor there). For me, I started to seriously take Lena at her word after the Medusa episode. That would've been the perfect opportunity for her to show the true "xenophobic" colours some parts of the fandom accuse her of having and she didn't do it. I don't think she even got so much as a thank you for it. People praise SM for getting Lex arrested but ultimately it was Lena's testimony that got him thrown behind bars. Same thing with Lillian! And yes, the daxamite invasion was facilitated by Lena unwittingly working with Rhea but she fixed it with the lead dispersal bomb, a device she allowed SG the privilege of using or not. So Kara and the SFs being cautious about Lena really should've evaporated halfway through S2 (and it did for Kara at least). In fact, the daxamite invasion may not have happened if Lena knew exactly who Rhea was and her relation to Mon-El because they would've warned Lena about it. Lena did want Kara's advice on Rhea and she would've waited for it if she knew what was going on (i.e. Alex being held hostage) and hell, might've been able to fix it in typical Lena ex machina fashion.

4. She didn't want to lose her

This is probably as close to the truth as we've gotten and it's actually part of her confession in 5x01 (something her outburst in 5x19 tries to undo). But the thing is, Kara KNEW this was a possibility and yet, continued walking towards the deadly cliff with her eyes wide open. The probability of losing Lena got higher and higher as time went on and it was always inevitable. There was always this spotlight placed on Kara telling Lena or Lena finding out on her own but there was always a HUGE chance that Lillian would've told her. Or Lex, which is exactly what happened. And Kara knew that they knew and yet she did nothing about it. The minute kara found out Lillian knew she should've taken action, what guarantee did she have that Lillian wouldn't have gotten bored of waiting for Lena to piece it together? How can they just leave Lillian with dangerous knowledge like that is beyond me. When Alex in particular has made such a big deal about people knowing, didn't want Kara telling Lena, only allowed Kara to tell Lucy to save J'onn and yet, letting Lillian amble about with this info is okay??? Nothing was stopping her from telling Lena or it slipping during one their chess games and definitely nothing stopping Lex from dropping that bomb.

The 100th episode AUs showed us that each time it was Kara telling the truth, no matter how hurt and upset Lena rightfully was, she was ultimately fine with it. And Kara ends up losing her to death, not because Lena walked away. How this wasn't the takeaway message for Kara after that adventure, idk. It was Kara's hesitatancy in telling Lena that allowed Lex to weaponize this secret and twist it into something it never was. And yes, Kara doesn't owe a damn soul her secret and has rarely ever been given the chance to tell anyone on her own terms (James - told by SM, Alex, J'onn, Brainy, Mon-El, the Legion - always knew, Lex & Lillian, Lord & Cat - found out somehow). She only ever got to tell Winn, Lucy and Nia and I'm sorry but none of those people have ever proven themselves trustworthy at the time of the reveal the way Lena has.

So while Kara is every right to keep her secrets, she was wrong to insert herself in Lena's life if she never had any intention of telling her and let's be honest, it really didn't seem like Kara had any timeline on that front.

5. She was selfish

Similar to the above and also mentioned during the confession but this is even deeper. Lena was something of an outlet for Kara, a way to feel completely normal, something she hasn't been able to experience with anyone, even Mon-El. Can you imagine being a cub reporter who knows powerful CEO Lena Luthor and having said CEO choose to spend time with you? Choose to let you interview her when she's wary of the press (remember her interactions with Clark in 2x01 and her family history)? Choose to treat your problems as important and valid and human? I don't blame Kara at all for being selfish with Lena, for wanting to keep Lena all to herself like that. But to not share the other aspects of herself was seriously wrong too and resulted in this imbalance in their relationship. To Lena, it looks like she was giving all of herself when Kara was not. It looks like she put all her trust and vulnerabilities out there when Kara didn't. It looks like Kara was using her (which let's be real, she kinda did a few times in S2 with the fight club and bs article to get info on Lillian and then ofc the CatCo-Edge problem she visited Lena for after ignoring her and proceeding to continue the rejection after Lena said she'd look into it).

You think post-reveal Lena didn't think back to all those moments and have those kinda thoughts? Even called into question what might've been the real reason James dated her and Kara was so insistent on befriending her? Were there perhaps times were she figured it out and can't remember and what's why she chose not to see it? Why do we think she still showed up game night in 4x22 instead of confronting Kara? Because these thoughts amongst others must've been swarming her mind and the only way to keep the upper hand is to continue playing dumb. So yes, Kara made the conscious decision to be selfish with Lena because of the unexpected connection they forged and I get it totally. But Lena has never been selfish and she's always made hard efforts to be a damn good friend (and she was idc what others might think on that) and open herself up to Kara despite how difficult and frankly foreign that is for her.

So are Kara's reasons valid? To a point, I would say yes but their validity waned over the seasons to the point where the secret keeping didn't even make sense anymore.

So was Lena's anger valid? Yes! 100% it was and honestly, I'm surprised she managed to keep it together for so long. I couldn't. But her anger doesn't justify her actions (mind control, manipulating Kara, threatening Russell, holding J'onn's bro captive, putting Hope inside Eve) and how she went out of her way to hurt Kara back. However, I get why she did it though it's worth pointing out that this is the only instances of a betrayal in her life where Lena has gone this far. Bitch straight up spiralled where previously she would cut ties and move the fuck on with life. But with Kara, that doesn't even seem to manifest itself to Lena as an option. Will the show ever address the obvious WHY for this and for Kara being so so terrified of losing Lena (like honestly I have never seen Kara look more distressed).

Maybe, maybe not but regardless I'm not buying this platonic friends nonsense because no one is that devastated over a friendship. Many of us (myself included) have experienced falling outs with very close friends and breakups. Which one do you think the Kara/Lena rift in S5 felt like? It was full on heartbreak, loving someone in complete torment and not being able to stop despite wanting to because even though it's painful, the alternative is infinitely worse.

MB and KM's acting choices aside, these idiot showrunners have brought us to this point with their own narrative and the only logical next step is to make them canon.

Oo what about the guardians and halloween? From cute trick or treating and costumes to horrifying movies with more or less dead children in some of them? It's not halloween, but my birthdays literally halloween date so might aswell ask in advance

Its always Halloween in our hearts Anon. Warning this is a long post 👻

Some guardians you'd assume would be off duty right? WRONG. Each of them have things to do/planned to do.

Tooth as you can guess is busy making sure her fairies pick up halloween teeth. She tries to send out extra reminders for kids to brush their teeth before bed for about a week or so. That halloween candy stash can last a while. At least until the kids eat all the good stuff and only go to their stash because they're desperate. Either way, shes a busy bee as always. A fairy's work is never done, especially on candy centered holidays.

North and Aster actually have an annual thing on Halloween every year. A friendly competition if you will. They they to make the best halloween themed candies/sweets. Many unholy combinations of pumpkin have been discovered through this contest and they keep track extensively to not cause more intenstine damage. They actually have a lot of fun with it and its good for them to have harmless activities like that. Sometimes the judge is a yeti but on occassion if Jack can spare a minute he volunteers once in a blue moon.

North used to watch Nightmare before christmas but he decided to do so privately because Jack kept smirking at him/cracked jokes. Jack and North have gone as The Pumpkin King and "Sandy Claws" for Halloween a few times. It was all fun and games til Pitch caught wind of it.

Jack LOVES Halloween. Trickster spirits and mischievous entities join him in the festivities but he makes sure they stay in line and don't harm any kids. Which rarely happens these days but you can't be too careful. Jack o Lanterns guard the homes so he doesn't have to worry too much. He often likes to produce dry ice and scare kids that way with mysterious fog or ghostly mist. He can be warded off if a kid tosses him a sucker or two. Playful scares are part of the holiday after all and he enjoys them the most.

Sandy knows Halloween is all about scares, so its the one night he allows natural occuring nightmares to exist. Pitch and Sandy agreed to it not long ago on those terms and they do their best to stick to them. He can't help but wonder why kids are so curious to see horror movies at such a young age. Although he'd be lying if he said at least one or two didn't scare him. The only ones who know which movies got him are himself and Pitch. Regardless, its a test of strength for him to not sock Pitch in the jaw when hes being bold on Halloween.

And for some extra fun, heres what the book only guardians do.

Ombric likes to step away from the tick and the tock to view the festivities. He can appreciate what the holiday has become over time and how it has such varying reactions in humans. Sometimes he likes to be a judge for North n Aster's competition but he can be a little bias when it comes to Aster's sweets. (Much to North's annoyance.)

Katherine likes to read scary stories or look at horror stories from multiple cultures. Her readers can choose to view them with her at Ganderly or sometimes she has these viewings at the village of The North Pole. Shes got a soft spot for stories that hail from Japan and other eastern cultures. She finds them very fitting for the spooky day and is always delighted to share the more obscure tales. Spirits from said cultures leave her alone on that day as a way of thanks for spreading their legends.

Having read "Noctuary" and been completely enamoured (art pending) would you recommend any other fics for this fandom? Yours or otherwise.

Sorry this took so long! (And thank you so much for your lovely words! <3) I wish I had an elegant, well-documented rec list but I've been reading a lot of Assassin's Creed fics on the rare occassions when I feel like reading and my Ao3 history is in tatters I don't, so sorry if this is messy!! (There's no particular order to this, btw, but most of them are Jim/Sheriarty-centric because...yes.)

First off, I would recommend @like-the-direction's fics, particularly the Circadian Disruption series and Corpus Callosum.

- Circadian Disruption is a Westworld AU--but no cowboys, just robots and a lot of really interesting details that weave together in a lovely way (also Molly and Jim's sorta-friendship is excellent).

- Corpus Callosum is an AU that answers the question of "what if Jim had contacted Sherlock right after Carl Powers's murder?" and it's probably one of the most beautifully written things I've ever read?? I don't want to spoil too much, though I will say it focuses on them growing up through the years, and -gazes affectionately at it-

I would also recommend @jamlocked's fics...it’s difficult to just pick a couple cuz Jam’s awesome, but Between Shadows and Sunlight and Not Until Then are probably the ones I’d recommend most (they’re all good, though, and you should look at all of Jam’s stuff >_> ).

- Between Shadows and Sunlight is an AU alternate ending for S2--with as minimal spoilers as possible, Sherlock and Jim spend a week living together, while Sherlock tries to convince him not to kill his friends or himself. It’s not that simple, though.

- Not Until Then is...oh boy. -internal screaming- Post S4, Sherlock goes to visit Jim’s brother. This fic...is fantastic and fucks me up every time I read it. It’s so good, and I have a bunch of theories about [redacted] and I...I... -lays on the floor- h e l p.

There’s a wonderful little oneshot series by @jimswestwood called Inevitable Destruction which has philosophical themes and existential ponderings.

Not a fic, but @dynamics-of-an-asteroid has wonderful, amazing, life-saving list of Sheriarty fics and you should absolutely check it out. You can find it HERE--it’s at least a couple pages long, so make sure to hit the next page button.

With regard to my own fics...I have a hard time recommending stuff? So. -settles in- Lemme give you a walkthrough of them all.

- Hiraeth - Oneshot. Mycroft reminisces on his and Sherlock’s youth; just soft sibling times. (For some reason this is my third most popular fic on Ao3, after Blackout and MoI?? So?? -incoherent noises-)

- Ghosts - Oneshot. The night after the Fall, Sherlock has a drunken chat with Jim. (The first BBC fic I did, aww...probably needs a rewrite but I think it’s similar to Noctuary in the sense of “is this happening or not?” vibes.)

- Two - Oneshot. ...this one is hard to explain. It’s basically a rewrite of the rooftop bit, but with a focus internal monologues. (It was experimental and a bit pretentious, but then again so am I.)

- Seven - Oneshot (sorta). The seven deadly sins + domestic Sheriarty fluff = bastards in love, continuing to be bastards. (Basically seven drabbles from different points in Jim and Sherlock’s relationship, each corresponding to a different sin and smooshed into a single fic. I’d really like to expand on a couple of them one day...)

- Observer Log - INTL - 9145 - Currently a oneshot, but I have more parts planned. Crossover with the Horizon series. Far into the future, Sherlock, Jim, a robotic cat, and a medical AI embark on a quest for answers. (It’s long. It’s...appallingly long, but it made me so happy to write and to explore something seemingly so far out of the show’s canon.)

- In The Darkness and Howling - Multi-chapter, wip. Bloodborne inspired. Many years ago, the Nightmares came and blanketed the world, turning men into monsters and sending others into a dreamless sleep. While investigating the murder of a witch, Sherlock begins to uncover the mysterious origins of the Nightmares and runs afoul of a conspiracy to use the Nightmares for personal gain. (This would have more chapters posted if Sherlock hadn’t essentially thrown himself on the floor of the plot and sat, obstinately pouting. But that’s what he’s doing, so... :/ I just really wanted to write a magic AU, tbh. Something fun and dark and brutal, with a bit of smooching later on.)

THE pickiest of eaters. Would rather go hungry than eat certain foods.

Really shit lung capacity. Can also make himself pass out by holding his breath. Yes he did this in desperate attempts for attention as a young child. (Yes I made myself sad writing that.)

Quite a few health problems as a result of being born premature. (May make seperate post abt this)

Can write with one hand and draw with the other at the same time (self-taught ambidextrous.)

Adhd

Bi and Butch nb (she/he pronouns)

Collects weapons like. BIGTIME collection. Meticulously organized in an order only she understands. This order changed every month or so when he gets bored of the arrangement.

Has never had a Thought before she acted beyond "oh this will be so badass."

Happy stims by yelling. Angry stims by yelling. Only people who really know her can tell the difference.

Has no tastebuds. There was a competition in the edge to see who could break him with awful food and everyone failed. She did get sick afterwards though.

I often find myself tempted by DL merch as well but since I graduated very recently and haven’t been making my own money either, I’ve never bought anything online without consulting with my mom first. I may be an adult, but I’ve never had to fully sustain myself so I realize that my perception of money is different from somebody who does have to pay for everything themselves.

I don’t want to give my followers the message that they can’t get any nice DL merch until they have a job and make their own money. I’m sure most parents would be willing to let them make a purchase online once every few months or for a special occassion like a birthday or Christmas. For example, I rarely ever make offline purchases because all the things I want are only available abroad.

Just be honest about it, that’s the main message I want to share. By stealing your parents’ credit card, it’ll only strain your relationship and make them less likely to allow you to buy stuff online in the future.

I can't take you seriously as a meta writer or so who wants to see representation on SPN. If your main concern is whether a character tops or bottoms, I can't help thinking you just ship DeanCas to satisfy a fetish. You almost exclusively post about bottom Dean, cause top Cas is true to character. Truth is: there ain't no top/bottom character traits in gay/bi dynamics. Almost all top Cas fics are OOC and make him cruel and Dean a whiny "bottom s*ut. When in canon Cas acts submissive towards Dean

You are clearly a bottom!Cas stan who is upset by an old post of mine where I quite clearly stated that I was pro switch/vers but on the rare occassions where I do read smut I prefer top!cas fics because I find A LOT of bottom!Cas tagged fics write him OOC. You have taken this statement, and used it to send me a rant which is both contradictory and hypocritical. Did you even read this message back before you sent it?

Um excuse me? Why are you comparing submission to bottoming? Those are two separate things and comparing the two traits is actually extremely problematic especially in fanfic. Not all submissives bottom and not all tops are doms. This is classic heteronormative misogynistic behaviour and we have had ENTIRE DISCUSSIONS on this topic proving how harmful it is to assume that the bottom in a relationship is also the small, weak, submissive party. (Because the bottom is the “girl” in the relationship right?)

It is you who shouldn’t be taken seriously. My issues with bottom Cas stans are simple. They (you) write him as a small, thin, pale, short tiny feminised version of Cas. I consumed plenty of smutty Destiel fics in my first few years of shipping them where I had ZERO preference on top/bottom dynamics because WHY WOULD I HAVE A PREFERENCE IT MEANS NOTHING TO THE RELATIONSHIP. But because of the way bottom Cas writers treat Cas I started blacklisting “bottom!Cas”. I have asked people to recommend me Bottom!Cas fics where he is portrayed accurately COUNTLESS times in the past and will read anything that guarantees an accurate character portrayal.

Before you start snapping that Bottom!Dean fics do the same thing.They don’t. Not the ones I have read. Yes, this DOES happen but it is RARE compared to the constant terrible portrayal of Cas as blatantly being described as “the girl” of the relationship. I don’t even really read Dean in panties fics because I’m not into it and don’t like EITHER character being feminised. I simply ask for both characters to be portrayed as masculine manly men and the standard dumbasses they are in canon. But at the same time I NEED them to be described as per their actors. Here is a list of things I NEED in fic for BOTH characters in case I haven’t made it clear. Otherwise, I tap out of the fic:
