Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?

Ooh… I have two, I think. One from To the Shining Stage, where Gaku comes to the realization, thanks to a cute and drunken Ryuu, that he feels unfulfilled in life:

Ryuu’s chin quivers. He murmurs something Gaku can’t understand, then follows up with “you’re so nice, Gaku.”

Gaku clicks his tongue impatiently. “I’m not trying to be nice, I’m trying to get you to follow your own dreams.”

“I know, and that’s really nice of you." Ryuu laughs. "Gaku must have a dream, huh? What does Gaaaaku want?”

A simple question, yet one with no simple answer. It’s not as though Gaku hasn’t thought about it; he’s twenty-two years old, didn’t go to university, and works at his family’s soba shop. It’s a perfectly average, uninteresting, and directionless life. Maybe, once upon a time, he wanted more. Maybe he had dreams not unlike Ryuu’s own, even if his father pushed him into it. But, unlike Ryuu, he had the opportunity and refused to take it. He wanted to earn his dream, not have it handed to him just because he had the misfortune of being the son of a powerful, demanding father that expected everything and was always disappointed. He would never be good enough. So here he is, living in a too-nice apartment that his father paid for per his parents’ divorce agreement, delivering soba for a living, writing music in his free time that will never leave the privacy of his bedroom. And he was content with that, for so long.

Until he met Tsunashi Ryuunosuke.

The second is from The Lonely Prince and the Solitary Knight, from Blaster Blade's perspective on Kai’s relationship with Aichi:

Drained from his excursions for the evening, and wrung out from the myriad of emotions he had gone through in the past few hours, he began his walk toward his own quarters, but stopped halfway down the hall and changed direction. He had seen himself in Kai Toshiki: A powerful, solitary knight, loved by his charge, hesitant to let his own feelings interfere with his oath and his duties to serve. Yet, where Ahmes had closed off his heart to the man who loved him, Kai had opened his to the possibility of heartbreak and rejection. Maybe, in the end, Kai was the stronger man.

Biggest surprise while writing this year?

I honestly frontloaded a lot of my writing in the first half of the year somehow, despite work being wildly busy with audits and reports. I also wrote for two new fandoms (Octopath Traveler II and IDOLiSH7). Since I'm kind of a creature of comfort and get really anxious dipping my toes in new things (like, what if I'm not good at portraying characters, etc), it is surprising that I was able to branch out as much as I did, I think.

Most shelters won't even let you adopt Ghost pokemon this time of the year because of people adopting one for Halloween, and then returning them after because they don't want the long-term commitment. What's worse is people adopting Pokemon like Houndour and Glameow just to hurt them for Halloween (if you do this, fuck you and fuck your mom, get hyper beamed).

They are NOT halloween ornaments for rent. They are LIVING CREATURES. Show some damn respect.

You're welcome for what I could get you! Unfortunately, the game just sunset, so I was unable to capture a screenshot. :( However! Some Japanese fans put together a very complete wiki with all the game dialogue here! So I was able to find his midnight dialogue in japanese:

ふわぁ……っと、これは失礼

明日に響かないようにもう休もうか

I know just enough japanese to get around the wiki so this is not a super good translation, but i think it says something along the lines of:

"Haaa... huh? How rude... shouldn't we be sleeping so we're not tired tomorrow?"

「ふわぁ」 (fuwa) translates to "fluffy" which makes me think he was dreaming about aichi's fluffy hair sleeping and got woken up (and mad about it? Cute...) however if anyone has an actually good translation I'm perfectly fine being corrected nicely lol it's past my bedtime anyway, good night anon!

work report:

genuinely baffling the amount of non communication here. my coworkers disappear for 5 to 20 minutes at a time without warning. the assigned jobs hold no real outline or substance so everyone simply goes on "vibes." i asked if I could go 5o the bathroom during a slow down, always get told "sure do whatever you want." perplexed by how unprofessional the communication is, & it seems to be old heads & management.

the boss also had refused several ways to get labels for our line of 20+ pastries & 20+ breads. a student offered to print them for the store so they'd be engraved since they get free access to uchi's creation lab. they refused buying simple tags that are semi disposable. instead we use paper bags, write the name on the bag, cut it out, tape it so its like its laminated, then tape a tooth pick on the bag. apparently thats better than free engraved plates or real bakery labels. in total we deal with over 50 baked goods that look pretty similar to each other.

there is also zero kitchen etiquette in which no one says behind, corner, hands, fly, ect. this leaves me quiet overstimulated knocking into each other.
