I love how PM keeps playing with tropes. We've seen the tropes that they deconstruct within Limbus (in fact, it is a theory of mine that each Sinner is based on a stereotypical character from gachas), the way that they pick up the cyberpunk trope and basically throw it across the room, but another huge one is...

Carmen.

Look. I think that Carmen was and is based on the traditional 'Mary Sue'. Because...well, some traits that are said to belong to the 'Mary Sue', are turned brilliantly on their head by PM. So, for typical 'Mary Sue' traits, there's:

Pretty in the traditional sense. 'Mary Sues' always look perfect, peerless and never have to work hard to maintain their image. While, as far as I know, there hasn't really been made an in-universe compliment on Carmen's physical appearance...you'd rather stop and listen to someone who at least looks like they can be trusted wouldn't you? She's likened to the sun, as Oswald called her that, and is inside the light. (Also, out-of-universe: she is certainly pretty in my eyes. She adheres to the modern beauty standards at the very least).

Related to the above: charming. The 'Mary Sue' often has an innate charm that attracts others to her. The way that Carmen has this is through her voice, which already was powerful enough to let her traverse the dangerous Backstreets unarmed, standing out from all those other Backstreets preachers somehow and draw in the most cynical noblemen, but is even more charming after death. She doesn't even need to give a breaking speech or anything, as we've seen, she just gives you questions and comments on things. Which falls in line with...

Powerful, yet without having to break a sweat. Even before dying, she was already drawing in people without having to get physical (at least, none we know of). The only time we fight her as of yet (Kether realisation), Angela needs to use an attack that depletes all her HP to win, after five phases have already passed.

The 'Mary Sue' is often a so-called spotlight stealer. She will have a major role in the story, inexplicably, at least one other character will fall in love with her and she will overall have a large presence. So far, Carmen is the only character who has appeared in all three of the games, and if you count the Distortion and the Library, she has influenced WonderLab, Leviathan and Distortion Detective as well. She was also relevantly connected to the main cast of LobCorp and has influenced most of them in some way (i.e Ayin, Angela, Giovanni, arguably Kali, etc.). She remains to be relevant to several major story turns and has left her mark in them, in some way.

Unusual eyes. It's a stereotype that 'Mary Sues' always have unusual eyes. A common type is heterochromia (which is why I often jokingly call Hong Lu a 'Mary Sue'), but other types exist like sparkly rainbow or them changing like a mood ring or something. Carmen has red eyes, which are a common side-effect of body enhancements (Vergilius had them and the R Corp pack leaders too)...except, as we said, for as far as we know, Carmen hasn't had any. They are also a trait of Bloodfiends, but she isn't (yet) confirmed to be one. Either way, red eyes are a sign of the not-weak in the City.

Oftentimes, 'Mary Sues' are referred to as divinity, as pure grace from an utmost high all-powerful deity. They may or may not even be that deity. With Carmen, she practically had a cult of personality around her when she was alive...and she also had an analogue in another pale-skinned, red-eyed being that is also treated like this. She was described as this paeon of altruism and someone who genuinely wants the best for humanity.

Meaningful name. While not so immediately on-the-nose like 'Flowersparkle', Carmen's name can be seen as a reference to the infamous prototype of the femme fatale, once again hinting at that charming quality of hers.

Perfect. A 'Mary Sue' never fails at what she does...and that's where PM shows through that...

...Carmen is a parody on the 'Mary Sue'. A so-called 'Parody Sue'...but not played for laughs. The thing is that she is described as being all this...by those she already has enthralled. Those that aren't really involved with her - Hokma (was more loyal to Ayin), Binah (who wasn't in the picture during Carmen's life), and Roland (a stranger to LobCorp to begin with) have their say during Ruina and offer us another view at Carmen, our first, and one thing becomes clear:

A real 'Mary Sue' would be weird as fuck.

Carmen shows us how weird a 'Mary Sue' would actually be in a world that isn't sunshine and rainbows - an extremely uncanny, severely misguided being who nonetheless draws people to herself, who show a creepy amount of belief and devotion to her. Carmen thinks that the 'be yourself' message - so omnipresent in media - should prevail...in a world where the majority of people are either pieces of shit or are living such a dreary, miserable life that they just give up all hope.

But all of this is only revealed in the second game and pulls the player out of the dream. And so, Carmen does end up failing to convince some people like Dongbaek and Dongrang who manage to develop E.G.O instead.

Because despite what she was painted as in the past, in reality, Carmen is not a 'Mary Sue'. And she is not perfect.

That's why she's such a great PM character.

Summary: A prank turned into a memory of a sweet moment.

Today was like any boring day in the Avenger's Tower complex. Tony and Bruce were away tinkering in the lab attempting to analyze a lab-created sample of Vibranium.

Meanwhile, Peter was tucked away in a corner, immersed in perfecting a new prototype web shooter. Despite his best efforts, he had shockingly successful encounters with the electric web—shocking himself at least five times in the last hour.

Thor was away on Asgard with Loki, doing mysterious sibling activities, probably visiting their mother.

Natasha, on the other hand, was on a mission with Clint. Given Barton's status as the perennial target for y/n's pranks and general mischief, she already pulled off a daring escapade, swapping out Clint's training arrows with plunger arrows.

With most of the usual suspects occupied, only a few remained. Steve Rogers, currently training with Bucky Barnes in the gym, was one of them, and messing with their workout routine wasn't high on y/n's priority list.

However, a sudden recollection changed the game.

Then, a memory surfaced with Wanda—a playful tradition from the past.

Before they officially started dating a month ago, y/n used to, at least once a week, change the background of Wanda's phone to the most ridiculous pictures of their friends, and occasionally, even Wanda herself.

Reflecting on the last time she played this prank, just before their first date, with a goofy picture of Wanda making a silly face during a silly Christmas movie, a mischievous idea sparked.

Wanda was currently in the kitchen making some delicious Sokovian dish that her mother used to make on special occasions. What was the special occasion? Their one month anniversary of course.

So as stealthily as possible, I utilized my training from the Red Room to make my way over to Wanda's phone and snatched it from the counter. Ready to Airdrop the goofiest picture of Peter Parker to make Wanda's lock screen, I stopped dead in my tracks. The picture that was already there was the one of us before we started dating.

Wanda practically dragged me across New York to show me something. Apparently something so important we couldn't even stop at the Bakery to get their new line of Avenger's themed donuts.

Wanda's was said to taste like mixed berry and magic.

While at dinner we were talking about family traditions. In Sokovia they had a tree that was strung with lights and glittering paper snowflakes.

When I said that I don't have traditions, and every day was the same in the Red Room. Train, practice, eat, sleep. Again and again. She thought this was unacceptable.

Then we were running through the streets of New York.

"You will love it I promise! This is so much better than donuts" She swore up and down.

Then all of a sudden she covered my eyes with her soft perfect hands and told me to walk forward.

"Are you ready?"

I nodded and started to giggle. A sound I didn't even know I was capable of making. She removed her hands and I saw the most gorgeous Christmas tree I had ever seen.

It was so tall that the star on top of the tree looked like it could be in the sky. Rainbow lights strung all around it made it shine like nothing I'd ever seen, except for maybe Wanda's eyes.

Around me couples were taking photos with the tree as a backdrop and families wrangling kids. Somebody else getting down on one knee and the coos of single people around.

I turned to look at Wanda to exclaim how amazing this is, but she was just looking at me and smiling.

"You deserve the world y/n and I want to give it to you"

I buried my face in the fur of her jacket.

We asked some random stranger to take a couple pictures of us, and this is one of them. Wanda is laughing at a joke I made her face crinkled and my eyes were closed laughing at her reaction.

That was the moment I knew I had to ask her out, but I didn't work up the courage until a couple weeks later.

That probably was one of the best nights of my life, and I wasn't expecting it to be.

Well I guess I won't be changing her lock screen today.

Also, the first leak we got is not like... an actual prototype? It's a prototype but a lot of the details were added on like Photoshop or somewhere digitally painted. Meanwhile not clear in this new photo you can see the braid texture more clearly.

honestly in all of those it STILL looks straight to me so idk maybe im just used to rainbow highs bigger braids? also i wish/hope she has that fluffy shawl like in the concept art i think thats really cute

Next up from SD Gundam G Generation:

The AMX-001 Prototype Qubeley. Originally designed as the MSN-008 during the waning days of the one year war, it was one of several units that were eventually completed at Axis. It was designed to be a direct successor to the MAN-08 Elmeth (MAN: Mobile Armour Newtype to MSN: Mobile Suit Newtype), best known for its use by Lahlah Sune, the Ghost of Solomon. Though the psycommu system was largely miniaturised, the Prototype Qubeley was still a large mobile suit, being roughly 25 metres tall. For reference, the RX-78 Gundam stood at roughly 18 meters tall, and the Qubeley itself, which succeeded the Prototype, was only 18.9 meters tall.

Armaments wise, the Prototype Qubeley was armed with two beam sabers built into the hands, analogous to those on the regular Qubeley. However, though powerful, they are not removable like the later model, nor can they double as beam guns. Perhaps in recognition of this, it was also armed with Vulcan guns, mounted on the chest, presumably to dissuade enemies from getting close. Instead of the aforementioned beam guns, the Prototype Qubeley had a set of Mega Particle Cannons mounted in the forearms, which were wired directly to the suits reactor, giving them high output. Interestingly, in order to fire these weapons, the hand would fold away and the arm would split in half to form a firing channel. Lastly, it was armed with psycommu system with which it controlled its funnels, which are miniaturised from the Elmeth’s Bits in both form and function. (It appears in Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam Define (below) with a funnel design similar to that of the Qubeley, but in the original game, Sd Gundam G Generation F, they appear as smaller versions of the Elmeth’s). Interestingly, the rear of the Prototype Qubeley where the Funnels are stored does resemble a smaller Elmeth.

Design-wise, really good. The powder blue and yellow and red really make it pop, and it certainly feels Zeonic, with its slim, mono-eyed head and little crown. I like its bulk, since it’s a transition between the round Elmenth to the elegant Qubeley, so it being a little ungainly fits very well, and yet all the spikes and pointy bits give it a good silhouette. My only criticism is that I can’t for the life of me figure out where its waist goes. The above-left picture of it from Z-Define just looks too hunched to me, but its official art makes its body look rather squat, atop its long and graceful legs. (Also, despite what you may think, that large yellow part just in front of the arm isn’t the mega particle cannon, it’s just the side of the chest). In a nutshell, it’s a nice design, I just wish we had more art of it, so it was a little clearer how it all fits together.

Also, wasn’t really sure where to put this, but that red and yellow panelled area on the side of the head? That apparently flashes in a rainbow when it’s charging it’s mega particle cannons, which is just a neat detail.

(Feel free to throw any more art of this thing at me, I know there’s a Gundam War Card design for it I haven’t seen)

A doodle inspired by G3’s Draculaura, she had to make Count Fabulous his own witch hat (it would be a nice thought if he was like Salem from Sabrina, as he is an older vampire punished to stay in bat form, in this new generation).

I’m still trying to acclimate to changes in G3. I like that they might use different heights (I need a short Draculaura BADLY), and they look more monster-y than their G1 counterparts (Draculaura’s longer, pointy -hopefully bat like- ears). Something does look a bit off about the doll’s facial screening…like their eyes’ outlines are too thick? I know those are just prototypes though. I would like it if their eyes’ outlines looked more delicate and detailed (like in the Haunt Couture line). I love her split dye-thats very cute- and her little separated fangs.

I’m also hoping they add more accents of lime green (and eventually light yellow again) and white to her outfits and keep her victorian-inspiration paired with different pieces she has acquired through the ages. Hopefully they also keep her bubbly attitude, dive into her being adopted/turned by Dracula, her love of Dead Languages (that would be a good reason for her to maybe try some “witchcraft,” maybe it is often written in dead languages…maybe a character like Spelldon or Cleo have some older tomes that catches her attention….? or she starts studying it because she struggles with her vampire powers…?), the fact she was in the school’s newpaper club, and likes the theater (wasn’t she planned on being in the drama club in the Classroom line…?). Bring in some more lore about the Vampire Court and Elissabat being the vampire queen.

Oh! I also didn’t know that she was going to be Taiwanese, that’s a fun addition.

I dunno, I’m trying to stay hyped for the new dolls (I don’t have much hope for the made for tv-live action movie as it wasn’t up my alley to begin with), and really hope they take the best/most interesting things from G1 and the more sturdy dolls from G2 (and maybe some of the new characters), and explore and expand it. Mattel’s decisions just make me nervous. Like what if they have REALLY CHEAP CLOTHES…? What if they completely ignore main character traits or they don’t come with diaries?? What if they try too hard to be Rainbow High (I love Rainbow High but for different reasons than Monster High). Change is fine. its fine…it’s totally fine…

I think it is because I didn’t get a proper good bye to G1 Monster High and G2 swept a TON of stuff I liked under the rug and then it was just gone too. With the Haunte Couture line, Skullector, and B.C. dolls released (all hard to get ahold of and EXPENSIVE), I just assumed that they would be a continuation. Aw well.

I was wondering why Mattel is really on my using Saran or Poly hair instead of kanekalon or nylon. Is nylon no longer being used for dolls? I did see that kanekalon has health risks now, so I assume that is why it is not used anymore? I was just wondering if you had some insights/theories as to why those seem to be the only hair fiber found in their current dolls? Or maybe I completely misread the whole doll hair thing…anyways, thank you for your time. :)

Hi! in 2002 Bratz released a couple of lines with cheap Nylon or doll grade Kanekalon hair and it was speculated that it was because Mattel had bought out the stock of saran PVDC manufactured by Asahi Kasei, Bratz used saran almost exclusively until what was deemed budget lines and clear corner cutting (as evidenced by how simplified dolls were compared to prototypes).

The issue's no longer so clear-cut: multiple manufacturers create nylon in high qualities and many colours. The issues surrounding Kanekalon concern it's human sized fiber and high heat which wouldn't be a problem for doll grade kanekalon which melts on the low temp of a hair straightener if you're not really careful.

I can't explain why Mattel has chosen to go with poly hair which feels unpleasant and doesn't hold up to brushing, why Hasbro systematically undermined their own products with terrible nylon that made even Disney princesses with straight hair unbrushable. MGA seems to be favouring Qiyue Kiwi hair (but not on LOL OMGs), is some kind of exclusivity contract why other dolls don't use it? DongGang make a very nice nylon, why hasn't Mattel gone with them? None of it makes sense. Maybe there's a good reason and I have no clue.

Maybe the reason is the same as the short sack-dresses and skirts designed to fit multiple body types: they've chosen to invest in face-molds, accessories and body diversity over makeup, clothes and hair. Maybe there's been a supply chain issue or unknown chemical instability?

It's baffling that we have more direct access to designers than we have in a long time and no-one seems to know about the hair. I'm not sure we will ever get an answer, we never did about the glue-head syndrome. The disconnect between what the designers want to create for people and what a company is willing to produce is wide: we know from pleather and glue head issues that many dolls are not manufactured to be long term collectibles. Some aren't really supposed to be redressed and restyled: the clothes are sewn on and the bun comes down to reveal a nub of hair or an empty head.

I wish things looked like they did in 2002 where the excuse for hard to brush 'Style It' dolls was potential corporate meddling, by 2008 you were lucky if the doll didn't come with a rat's nest on her head. Nowadays, we have these confounding decisions to stick badly rooted coarse hair on expensive collector dolls, on dolls with an implied collector value as long-lasting items and then other dolls priced seemingly at random (collector Rainbow High ranged from $40 to $100 for no discernable reason). It's not even clear when profits are being reinvested into the toy lines and we speculate that some toy lines are operating at a loss to get a foothold in the market.

Let's just say that a bunch of companies have shown they don't even have the sense to invest in brand loyalty with quality product recently, the media companies have exhausted so much goodwill it's embarrassing to anyone who's ever cared about running a business. Even banks can't seem to think five years ahead. It's why I'm delighted MGA is getting sued, yeah it's frivolous and far-fetched but we might get some insight on how they're running things and what the design process might be. It is absolutely not the "collaborative" Monster High/Barbie mermaid "voting process" we've seen on social media and more of a "Oh shoot, we gotta make the Krystal Bailey doll darker skinned, people are furious!"

TLDR It could be that whoever's running these divisions knows nothing about dolls, let alone hair. They just look at numbers and make decisions on numbers, short term ones too, no long term projections or testing.

“I dunno, man. Didn’t feel right.”

I nodded, feigning understanding. Though my friend Shawn liked manga and games as much as I did, he never was the kind of guy to consider going to conventions. “Too exhausting and hot. Plus they’re kinda expensive and I was hoping to use the cash to keep building that new PC,” were his usual excuses, though I couldn’t help but concede that the stench did get to me at times.

However, I managed to snag two weekend passes from another friend and his cosplay-obsessed girlfriend, Robin, after the two of them came down with a nasty case of strep throat. Not wanting the passes to go to waste, he emailed the QR code with the caveat that I at least buy him a nice figurine.

Of course, Shawn was hesitant.

“I promised to do those photoshoots with Cindy,” he said, “but I don’t really feel like going to those things. ‘sides, I was planning on going to the gym this weekend. Gotta keep working on these thunder thighs.” He chuckled as he lightly slapped those muscular legs, in full view due to his short-shorts.

Miraculously resisting the urge to drool, I nodded and said, “Yeah, of course. I’ll go, though. Don’t wanna let these bad boys go unused, y’know?”

Shawn frowned. “Don’t got anyone else to go with? Seems shitty to be there by yourself.”

“Nah, nah. I got somebody in mind. And I don’t wanna guilt trip you into going. Relax.” Shawn nodded and went back into his room while I retreated into mine. I wasn’t joking when I said I had somebody in mind, it was just Shawn’s body.

We’ve been best friends since forever, but in the past few years he’s been really getting fit and now looks like a major hunk. Despite having the prime opportunity to experiment (maybe even with me) in university, he just went ahead and insisted he was into gals only. This weekend however he’d be taking a bit of a walk on the rainbow side. I knew from a few social media accounts that some nice male cosplays thots would be attending, so this was my opportunity to get some nice tail.

What he wouldn’t remember wouldn’t hurt him, anyway.

I went into my room and prepared the device that looked like spiked helmet with an antenna resembling a horn. It was a little something the Engineering department at our university cooked up. I took the prototype to my place to tinker with it over the weekend. The basic idea was: if the brain is composed of a series of chemical and electrical signals transported through the neurons, is it possible for one’s consciousness to be signaled into another person’s brain?

We did some test on mice, now it was time for a human subject.

Making sure the antenna-horn was facing Shawn’s room, I calibrated the machine and switched in on. My vision went dark yet my mind began alight with a series of sensations and colors as I traveled through the air and struck gold.

“HRGH!” Though not quite in control, I was aware of Shawn’s body. Two minds in one being. “Wh-What--FUCK! AHHH!” His body writhed on his bed as the current of my consciousness traveled from his brain stem and down his spine. “Haah, ahh... ahhAAAAHHHH!” His back arched as pleasured washed over us both. Our nipples hardened as shock after shock echoed through the nervous system. Each cell in our body was alight with the miracle I held in my hand.

Every time Shawn’s skin would rub up against itself, it was like dozens of orgasms rocked our body. The pleasure part of the brain was going haywire. “FUCK, FUCK, FUUUUCK!” Shawn moaned, humping his bed as his eyes rolled to the back of his head from the sheer euphoria of his brain housing another consciousness. His body continued to convulse on the bed, shooting blanks and still humping the pillows as the procedure continued. Eventually, Shawn shot his load through his shorts and onto his bed as he and I passed out.

I awoke not much later and eagerly rubbed my new beefy pectorals. Each touch was so... sensual. It was as if someone else was worshiping my body, but it was just me. I rubbed my new beard and get a stiffie at the nice, scruffy hair decorating my new, strong jaw. “Mmm, already got the perfect costume in mind,” I chuckled.

So...

We have Dadcula G2

The light is not good on the first picture, but both versions have white hair on the sides.

Yet the only physical manifestation of Dracula is the G2 doll

Strangely enough, I searched for images of the doll, and apparently the one on amazon is a prototype or something, because the white hair *is* on the side, and the head also looks rounder... and shinier, but anyway.

That dude doesn’t look like either version. He looks way too young to be the same as the one in the picture, and notice how his white hair don’t match... actually, the hairdo also doesn’t match, while both Draculas have medium hair combed back, the doll itself seems to have a modern-ish fade on the sides (Yes... like all Rainbow High Boys)

Why I randomly thought on all of this? 

Because I found one nekkid one at the flea market (YAY!) he had some paint on his face, and since I already have another one, I got it to repair, and in a moment of impulsiveness, I also acetone’d the heck out of his white hairs. (Also very carefully went after the weird spikes of his eyebrows, that again, neither Dracula has)

And honestly... he’s giving me more Mr. Komos vibes than Dracula

Obviously I need to repaint him to make him fangless, and also give him horns... and maybe rebody him, which means either I repaint the whole body pink, or I repaint the whole head in a more peachy tone, but I think I *can* have my own Mr. Komos to be the uncle of Jackson and Holt.
