I was thinking about Yuzu's Romeo & Juliet programs.

The characters in the play are dramatic teenagers. Romeo is reckless in his pursuit for Juliet, Juliet is rebelling however she can, too. They are teenagers who think their love can conquer all and the tragedy is so much more tragic because they essentially needlessly die for each other.

Yuzu's Romeo+Juliet (2011-2012) is very much that side of chaos and rebellion, that fight that never leaves Romeo - the stubborness and relentlessness of someone who will do anything to get what he wants. Yuzu poured so much drama and chaos in R&J. That Worlds 2012 performance is so iconic because he fought and he conquered.

Romeo&Juliet (2013-2014) is softer, that's portraying much more the love story between Romeo and Juliet, the tenderness and passion they had for each other. The fight and rebellion of the two are not so prominent here. This program is tenderly emotional and tragic.

I love, love, LOVE how Yuzu managed to make two programs based on the same story to be so wildly different.

The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien

I have read this book multiple times, actually I had just reread this last year (and I don't think I did a proper review post at the time). This is one of my top comfort books, I will never grow tired of it. To me it's the book equivalent to a cup of hot tea and a blanket when you most need it. I was at the verge of a reading slump, and in general I just needed that comfort feeling this book gives me, so I picked it up yet again.

At this point everyone more or less knows the plot of The Hobbit, it's the adventure of Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit hired as a burglar by Thorin Oakenshield and his company of Dwarves. The goal is to got at east to The Lonely Mountain, where Thorin's grandfather was king before the dragon Smaug attacked them. It's a very simple adventure that feels almost like a fairytale. It's such a cozy and engaging read, it's much more lighthearted and easy to read than The Lord Of The Rings, so give it a chance if you haven't yet. It's not as easy to explain why this story is so comforting to me, other than the cozy vibes it gives me, Bilbo gives me so much hope. He's a character I am very attached to, because I cannot help but to seem myself in him. He's just a quiet hobbit who enjoys the comfort of his house, to sit in his garden, eat and read a book. And yet, although a part of him fears adventure and unpredictability, he choses to follow is Took side and go on this adventure. What I also really like about his character is that throughout the whole novel Bilbo has this emotional ups and downs. He doesn't change in his character, he still misses his home and its comforts, even if he grows as a person. He realizes he is much more brave that he could ever think, he finds himself dealing with things he would have never imagined. Bilbo always makes me feel more confident as a person when reading this book. I am just ranting at this point, but I love this book so much, and it's so approachable, even as a fantasy book, so I can't believe some people have never read this.

I decided to use this reread for the studyblr w/ knives summer reading challenge 2.0 for the prompt magical quest. (I have posted an update recently, so I'll wait to have read a couple more books for the next one).

Team RWBY and (J)N(P)R are tired of seeing the lovable dork that is Jaune Arc, and his partner the Invincible Girl Pyrrha Nikos, constantly go around in circles with each other. Pyrrha pining fro Jaune, and Jaune being as dense as plutonium... not noticing a single thing.

So in utter frustration they create Project JP... with the sole aim to get Jaune and Pyrrha together... however there is a problem no one knows of...

... Pyrrha is an immortal "True" Zombie... and Jaune is a rather clumsy Zombie hunter...

Is the Project set to fail? Or will it work out for everyone in the end?

Sadly, I was not good about tagging when I first joined the fandom, and I’m still not consistent. 🫣 But I looked around and have found some stuff you might enjoy.

I like these posts about Dany's relationships with her nephews as being foreshadowed by her interactions with Rhaegal (Jon) and Viserion (Aegon). This post about potential foreshadowing for Dany to kill Aegon. This spec about Dany v Aegon and Jon betraying her. This one, about how killing Aegon will not be the victory she expects, and some parallels between him and Robb .

I have a tag for Dance of Dragons 2.0, but the better one to peruse is prolly sayruq's on that topic. Also, just so you know, the fandom at large seems to think "mummer's dragon" means Aegon is fake, but we tend to believe he's Elia's son and that that's about Jon. I'd recommend reading Aegor's tag for more general Aegon content.

I can't find any specific book meta about how the Starks will defeat the Others at the moment, although I linked to a meta about it happening at Winterfell in this post. If anyone has a post they like or wrote on it, please send it catofoldstone's way!

Let's see...I haven't been doing a good job keeping up with meta for the past year, but I think there's good stuff in the Stark v Tag tag which has foreshadowing for conflict between wolf and dragon and spec about Arya and/or Jon assassinating Dany. Oh, here's the tag talking about foreshadowing for Dany to face-off with Euron which I find interesting spec. I do have a few tags I’ve tried to remember to use more, Book Jonsa, R+L=J, King Bran, The Girl in Grey. This post about the Ashford Tourney Theory has links for meta on that (it's a beloved Jonsa theory), and I have a few additional things tagged for it. I also have this post with some favorite Jonsa metas. The Sansa and Lyanna tag has been fun due to @please-dot's eye for parallels.

theusurpersdog doesn't seem to be active any longer, but their posts on Dark Dany are very good. This one has links to the previous ones in their series on her. I like this one about book Jon as well.

I enjoyed howlandreads writing (also inactive), especially this post, Feminine Rebellion in ASOIAF.

Reading trinuviel's post about Dany being Azor Ahai (but that being a bad thing!) was formative for me, so even though I feel like I link that a lot, I shall again! This is the final post in the series and has links to the previous entries.

Fedonciadale is someone I thought of as our very own ASOIAF expert. She passed away a year ago, but I’d encourage you to look through her masterlist. She was a fan of LOTR and Martin is a huge fan (he said he regularly rereads it), so I was very interested in the parallels she found between the two series.

I’m not sure if you were around for this, but Istumpy did a reread project and you can find links to each of those posts in this master post. You may want to look at the summaries for each book in that post to find where the foreshadowing for a specific topic is and approach it that way.

The one meta by someone beyond our corner of the fandom that I think about often is that famous series of essays on Dany because Martin endorsed them. It was written years and years ago, and after reading Martin's words on it, it's hard to understand how Dark Dany is treated as a fringe theory or rejected as part of shipping wars.

I’m getting the sense that he likes flirting with women who don’t take it seriously because he truly isn’t being serious at all. So he appreciates people who laugh off his natural charm. Tarot 2.0: What a surprise! NOT! They’re polar opposite who can’t stop thinking of each other. They’re soulmates who are going through a rough path right now. Another karmic card too. However this is a slow progress card to me. “Right person, wrong time”? They’re hearts are with each other but they’re separated. Now they have to be careful here. Karma is not something to take lightly. They’re meant to be separate (learn how to be separated which they haven’t been separated since they met each other) but they need to reconcile or at least talk to heal the connection. Or another karmic cycle will continue. Patience is needed especially from R. She’s very impatient with him and he’s shutting down emotionally because of it.

Tarot 2.0: Obsessively watching every move Zeglyth makes and analyzing their behavior. BB thought that R fit in very nicely with T’s family and friends which made her insecure. She knew then that R was going to be a permanent person in T’s life. Yikes!

How did T’s family feel about R at the London premiere?

Tarot 2.0: They thought her and T were magnetic together. If I was BB, I would have burned down the whole premiere and killed everyone. No way in hell I’m allowing his family and friends to admire R in front of me. R made a great first impression even if they found her to be a little immature but they loved how she brought out T’s happiness and they reminded everyone of childhood sweethearts. BB should have choked R to the ground for this.

Me: stop being violent!

Tarot 2.0: The disrespect towards BB is hilarious. His family and friends love BB but R also has star power and they can see she makes T happy. One of his friends made a comment that they want to see R and T in another movie and BB nearly fainted. That would be her worst nightmare.

Clarify the look that T gives to R at the London premiere and BB's expression? From a previous reading you said, T looked at her. How?

Me: What people? That’s literally BB, T, J and R! Everyone else is irrelevant.

Tarot 2.0: Anyways! The first thing that stands out to me is BB’s shirt. Everyone else is dressed cozy and then there’s her? She definitely wore a revealing shirt in person. This is the saddest dinner party I’ve ever seen. Does R drink?

Me: not really. At least I don’t think so.

Tarot 2.0: everyone else seems like drinkers. Why is J so fucking clueless? R is watching T and BB have fun then looks at J who was not even paying attention to his surroundings. R has such a sad expression on her face. It’s tough for her to be around T and BB. Especially since J is an idiot.

Tarot 2.0: R is legit crazy I’m convinced. If we opened her skull, we would see nothing but dust and glue. There’s no way she expected T to pay attention to her while BB is there? Why is she always blaming T for this? That’s his gf! She should be blaming J for not giving her what she needs. R keeps forgetting that T isn’t her man and can’t act like he usually does with BB around. This is a huge problem within itself. T does act differently with R (he doesn’t flirt at all) when BB is around but why does R want him to do exactly? Flirt and say I love you to her in front of BB? That’s ridiculous.

T is crazy too because he enjoys rubbing his relationship in R’s face. T and BB have a way better relationship than R and J, true but T found it hilarious. What a petty man. Why do they care so much? Why does R pout when T’s attention is on gf? And why does T care if R is jealous or not? No wonder BB wore that sexy shirt, she had to fight for T’s attention and still barely got it. Unfortunately R could wear a trash bag and BB could be nude and T’s attention would still go to R. This is America right? They should buy guns and have a shootout like an Western because no way would I let my man embarrass like this.

Did J prepare R in any way or resort to voodoo practices?

It’s absolutely false that R is using T’s friendship for her personal gain. She knew he would be popular and successful but genuinely loves him and values his friendship. However, she loves the attention she gets from saying his name. Does she use his name to get attention? Yes but she’s not using T just for that. She would never do that. I’ve never got that vibe from any of the readings. The first card I pulled for them was the Lovers card so I knew it was real. She was more blind sided with the fact that people don’t like J as much. She thought her two men would have equal value in the public’s eyes.

J doesn’t have real fans of his own right now and they think his next project will help with that.

Conulariids are an extinct group of probable cnidarians with 4-sided pyramidal thecae. They are relatively uncommon fossils but ranged from the Cambrian (possibly Ediacaran?) to the Triassic, comprising tens of genera and hundreds of described species (Lucas 2012).

Here are the reconstructed thecae of a small selection of species from every period of the conulariids' range, starting from the Cambrian in the top left and reaching all the way to the Triassic in the bottom right.

Since their soft parts are virtually never preserved (due to them being cnidarians and all that) (Van Iten & Südkamp 2010), most of our knowledge of conulariid biology and evolution is based on their more fossil-friendly thecae, which were composed of thin organophosphatic lamellae (Leme et al. 2008). Live conulariids were attached to the substrate by the apex of their theca; they probably captured suspended food particles or small prey using tentacles, just like other cnidarians, but it's hard to go in any more (non-speculative) detail without preserved soft tissues.

hello! i’ve followed for a while but never talked to you. thank you for being such a great jonsa and asoiaf source. i’ve been thinking lately about how sansa’s vale arc might proceed and was curious if you know of any theories about when/how her marriage to tyrion might end.

sansa needs to be unwed for littlefinger’s schemes to work. he seems to want sansa to believe he’s just waiting around for tyrion to die, but that doesn’t seem in character for him. it seems more likely he is actively trying to end her marriage behind the scenes.

do you think she’s likely to stay married to tyrion for much longer? or might her married/unmarried state end up as convoluted as the northern succession, maybe with a decree of annulment floating around somewhere like robb’s will?

I haven't been reading much meta this year, so I may have missed it, but I don't know that we've ever developed a specific theory about when Sansa's marriage to Tyrion would be handled! We've sometimes talked about a nice ol' widowing which is fun (but not what we'll get imo), @kellyvela found an exchange in which Martin said that someone doesn't have to go to the High Septon for an annulment but obviously will have to request it in their own name and it would reveal their location (link), so that means, it can't be safely done while Sansa’s pretending to be LF's daughter. She could do it once in Winterfell, and we've talked about the possibility of Tyrion trying to bring the North to Dany's side in DoD 2.0 via his marriage to Sansa, and if that is the route Martin wants to go, it would be pretty juicey, and really fuel Tyrion's rage if Sansa has already had their marriage annulled. That's a fun way to play it.

We've also talked about post a girl in grey trip to the North, considering loyalty to Ned and hatred for Lannisters, the North might just say fuck it, we don't recognize that forced marriage. Or, and I really do think this is possible for drama's sake, we have the two religions, and they might use that to defend not recognizing the marriage and, considering the byronic Jon quote, and how often bigamy pops up in gothic/victorian lit, I don't dismiss the idea that Sansa might marry someone before the old gods prior to an annulment being secured. That might mean, the annulment doesn't happen until close to the end of the story. I personally like the idea of a secret Jonsa wedding, but lot's of Jonsas expect it to be public after R+L=J to reconcile the Jon KitN turning out to be a Targ debacle. Either way, this would mean when Jon reunites with his friend Tyrion, they're both married to Sansa which is also a very sick twisted fun way to play it! (Stop throwing tomatoes, y'all know that would be funny!)

As for LF's current plans, I have no idea! He believed Cersei would end Tyrion, he'd then get rid of Cersei, and that at that point he could reveal who Sansa was:

"A marriage . . ." Her throat tightened. She did not want to wed again, not now, perhaps not ever. "I do not . . . I cannot marry. Father, I . . ." Alayne looked to the door, to make certain it was closed. "I am married," she whispered. "You know."

Petyr put a finger to her lips to silence her. "The dwarf wed Ned Stark's daughter, not mine. Be that as it may. This is only a betrothal. The marriage must needs wait until Cersei is done and Sansa's safely widowed. And you must meet the boy and win his approval. Lady Waynwood will not make him marry against his will, she was quite firm on that." (AFFC, Alayane II)

Cersei had the motivation to go after Tyrion, so it made sense to me he thought she'd handle it, and then he'd handle her, but seeing as what he wants to do is reveal Sansa as herself, get the KotV to go North and reclaim Winterfell, I'm not sure what he is currently planning, now that he says his timetable is screwed? Unless he thinks the mayhem of KL, Cersei's current trouble there, Aegon and then Dany's arrival will allow him to get the annulment undiscovered? Cersei is at odds with the High Septon, so maybe he thinks he could get away with it? That doesn't make sense to me though, not with the way news flies. I guess the weather is something of a shield, but not enough. Maybe he planned to kill someone and try to pass them off as Tyrion? Marry Sansa to Harry quickly after and take her North where Cersei wouldn't be able to get her? The emphasis is on Tyrion being alive, not the annulment, but maybe that's a misdirect.
