pre-mclaren oscar piastri primer (ft. maxf, landoscar)
0. introduction
for a few months now i've been wanting to make both an oscar primer and a timeline of pre-mclaren landoscar moments, but i couldn't figure out which one to prioritize… then after some deliberation i finally realized i could just combine the two things together! so. here is an oscar-centric timeline that is mainly about his racing background, moving to the uk, and how he became acquainted with other members of the rfm pack—aka lando, maxf, and logan. i don't know whether any of this information is useful or even vaguely interesting, but i mostly just wrote it for myself and thought i'd share what i had in case anyone else wanted to check it out. please feel free to comment or shoot me an ask if anything here is egregiously incorrect; i've checked and linked as many sources as i could but it's of course possible that some errors remain :)
1. background, rc racing, early karting days (2007-2015)
oscar piastri was born on april 6, 2001 in brighton east, a suburb of melbourne not far from albert park circuit, as the son of chris and nicole and to-be oldest brother to 3 younger sisters. a love for all things automotive ran deep in the piastri family: both of his grandfathers were mechanics and his father had also co-founded his own vehicle diagnostics software company, hp tuners, aka oscar's sponsor throughout his racing career. thanks to his father's business, oscar's family was objectively well-off and managed to contribute a fairly substantial amount of support toward his junior career, but they also weren't swimming in cash by multi-millionaire motorsport standards either.

while most drivers on the current grid were introduced to motorsport through go-karting, usually at or before the age of 7, oscar's path to single-seaters differed slightly. he first developed an interest in racing via remote-controlled cars at the age of 6, when his father brought him a monster truck as a souvenir back from a business trip in america. oscar began racing them that same year, eventually moving to safer electric track vehicles and even winning the second class of the national titles in 2010, at the age of 9. he was so small then that he often needed to stand on a milk crate to see the cars on track, and the next-youngest competitor at the time was twice his age. oscar with his father chris, who often competed alongside him in a separate class (dec 21, 2010)
by 2011, oscar and his father were seriously considering his potential of pursuing rc racing as a viable career path, but things changed when he was introduced to karting via a friend's daughter in the rc community and his aspirations slowly shifted toward racing from inside a car. oscar was an unsurprisingly sporty and competitive child growing up; he'd played some cricket and aussie rules football and knew that all he wanted to do was race professionally, full-stop, at the time thinking along the lines of australian racing categories like v8 supercars. he was still competing in remote car racing as late as 2013, but he began karting seriously within australia in 2014, placing respectably in the junior categories of several regional karting series against relatively senior and more-experienced racers, and even going to france for a one-off event where he finished on the podium of the iame international junior x30 final. this outing affirmed his potential to his father and motivated the two of them to split time between australia and europe in 2015 as they juggled his karting future; plans for two more european events that year fell through, including the cik-fia world championship at the kfj level (which logan sargeant would go on to win), but at this point they were officially looking to take his career to the next level and commit fully to european karting in 2016.
this is when ricky flynn (and the hypothetical idea of lando norris!!!) comes in. before we get into rfm and karting professionally in europe, it's important to note that the defining aspect of landoscar's junior careers is that their pathways never once intersected. in fact, they don't even seem to have met properly before oscar entered the f1 grid as alpine reserve, although they'd spoken over social media and oscar was familiar with several people around lando's life—for example, maxf, logan, guanyu, and even lando's older brother oliver, who had also raced for rfm.
in short, you could say that landoscar's biggest hindrance was their parallel excellence. oscar was good enough to catch up and even surpass everyone else at lando's level, but lando remained untouchable throughout the years. oscar is only 1.5 years younger than him, but their f1 careers are offset by 4 years (2019 vs. 2023 debut) because of exactly two things: oscar's 2022 gap year in alpine and his two attempts at formula renault eurocup. on the other hand, lando sped through all of his junior categories in blistering fashion, falling short of the championship only once: the year he placed 2nd in f2 behind george russell. this is significant because many talk about the clinical nature of oscar's rapid single-seater ascension and three b2b2b victories (still very impressive, especially given his limited karting career!), but all of that speaks equally to the illustrious nature of lando's junior success and the sheer magnitude of faith placed in him as mclaren's "golden boy" coming up the ranks. to put things into further perspective, lando was teammates with maxf and jehan daruvala at rfm until 2014, jehan competing in the same class and max one below, yet by the time oscar was racing max and jehan—in f3 in 2020 and f2 in 2021, respectively—lando was already into his 2nd and 3rd years of f1. here's a chart that hopefully makes a bit more sense:

majorly simplified timeline showing lando, guanyu, maxf, logan, and oscar's junior careers + the karting classes they primarily competed in each calendar year. maxf did not complete his 2nd f3 season and many of them contested multiple/different formula renault series, but this is just a rough overview of their feeder series experience.
2. moving to europe, rfm, regional formulae (2016-2019)
back in australia, oscar was a member of the oakleigh go-kart racing club and being actively mentored by james sera, a multi-time australian karting champion and fa kart dealer who worked with young karting talents alongside his cousin david. in late-2015, he presumably helped oscar and his father reach out to ricky flynn, who ran ricky flynn motorsport (rfm) and whose team was at the time enjoying exorbitant success in the karting scene; lando had won the world championship at the kf level the year prior, and logan would soon clinch the kfj title in 2015, results which further drew oscar's interest toward the team. ricky flynn agreed to take oscar on and have him and his dad move out to europe, and by november 2015 oscar announced on social media that he would be joining rfm the next year. in january of 2016, he and his father moved to hertford, uk, so that oscar could begin a 100-day karting program and travel extensively around europe to attend races. this is where he met logan sargeant, who was in his final year on the team but competing a class above, now at the ok (previously kf) level. oscar himself was only competing in the okj class.

not oscar-related, but as you can see guanyu, logan, and maxf were already acquainted before oscar and logan met, since the three of them and lando had been in rfm together as of 2014 — (may 11, 2014) & (feb 6, 2015)

oscar and logan in 2016
in an interview published on june 7, 2023, oscar reflected on leaving australia and committing to his racing dream, saying:
"i think if there was a turning point, it was probably when i started finishing towards the front in australia, and i started winning a couple of races here and there and finishing in the top three of championships and stuff, and then went to europe and fully committed to going down that route. [...] there's obviously a very big commitment at that point when you move halfway across the world without family and stuff. so i knew at that point that i really wanted to become a professional because, firstly, that's what i want to do anyway, but, secondly, now i'm sacrificing seeing my family, and stuff like that to be able to do this — which was a sacrifice i was more than willing to make."
like the majority of oscar's karting career, his time with ricky flynn can primarily be summarized as decent. none of his performances were particularly stellar, and in november 2016 he placed 6th in the fia world championship final behind the likes of victor martins and théo pourchaire (he mainly competed against guys like them, dennis hauger, caio collet, etc… once again logan was a class above and lando/maxf had already graduated to single-seaters), but he showed promising racing foundations and a great capacity for improvement, especially given that he'd moved to europe the same year and was still adjusting to life and racing on the opposite hemisphere. about 6 months into his new karting venture, oscar had settled in reasonably well and his father decided he would return to australia to continue on with his life, so they made the joint decision that oscar was to begin boarding at haileybury's uk campus and continue racing in europe entirely on his own. uk and australian school years are misaligned, so my personal understanding is he moved to europe after finishing year 9 in australia, attempted online school/took a few months off (he says he did online coursework here, but mentioned here that he was out of school, so it sounds like it must have been a very half-hearted effort…), came back to australia over the uk summer to do some more karting, then began boarding in september 2016 as a year 10 student. he spent ~4 years there and eventually received his a-levels in 2020, except his final year was disrupted by covid and he never sat his exams. (blog post mentioning his a-levels + btg transcript excerpt about his exams; his website says he attended haileybury from 2016-19, but i think this mainly encapsulates his boarding period, as he was still doing remote work in april 2020.)

2016 is also when oscar began his well-documented super-liking of several of lando's social media profiles. i think understanding oscar's time in rfm and his extremely british single-seater origins helps better paint his history with lando and maxf; my personal understanding of pre-mclaren landoscar is that while oscar never formally met lando or maxf during his karting days, he knew of them quite well through rfm and thus followed them on instagram/twitter after moving to the uk. of course, oscar has a fairly active social media presence in general, so young oscar quietly liked instagram posts and tweets from many different people, but i do feel compelled to note that in the early days he liked lando, maxf, and logan's posts with seriously impressive frequency compared to anyone else on the grid (or anyone in general, really); after creating his twitter account in may 2016, some of the very first tweets oscar liked were from maxf, and he also liked a multitude of mundane lando tweets from 2016 until… today, while on the other hand he didn't start liking george's tweets—another similarly-aged young british talent—until late 2017. (he does have some fun george-admiring moments though, but that can wait for another time!) outside of rfm, other people oscar was familiar with during his early racing years were british f4 teammate ayrton simmons, to-be series champion jamie caroline, and old australian karting friend christian pancione, who appears to still be one of his best mates (if not his best) as of today. fun fact is that christian raced for the carrera cup as a support event to the australian gp in 2023; here's oscar allegedly checking the quali live timing at lunch during his own media day.
so, to conclude, oscar's early lando focus basically traces back to the motorsport path he took at the behest and guidance of his early rfm connections in the uk. the thing is that despite growing up in australia and vaguely admiring several aussie drivers in f1 as a child (read: mark webber and eventually daniel ricciardo), oscar has never had a specific driver he consistently mentions when pressed for his racing "idol," likely since his personality inherently resists idolatry and he instead views successful people more as actionable benchmarks or reference points for self-improvement rather than as unattainable paragons of accomplishment. as a kid forced to grow up almost entirely on his own, the majority of his racing aspirations were molded independently in the uk—he completed his karting career in the uk, boarded at haileybury for 4 years (fun fact: other drivers to attend include jehan, callum ilott, and clément novalak; callum was a few years above oscar and finished school in 2017, but the two would later become quite talkative over social media anyway), raced in british f4, became a brdc member, contested eurocup under a british license and therefore had the british flag raised and british national anthem played during his wins, stayed in the uk even at alpine since the factory is based in enstone, etc. oscar basically moved to the uk from australia without having really met anyone significant in the racing scene (other than jack doohan, or more importantly jack's father mick, but jack is younger and did an extra year of karting) and pretty much didn't have anyone specific to "look up to" at the time. oscar's first acknowledgement of lando's online existence was in december 2015, when he liked one of lando's instagram posts prior to moving to england, so it can be assumed that lando basically functioned as his most accessible reference point in the junior ladder as a 14 year old dipping his toes into the european racing scene for the first time. that is my highly subjective analysis of the situation!
select quotes re: oscar's inconsistent responses to his motorsport "hero" (or his favorite driver / a driver he looks up to in general):
(f1fs; mar 9, 2022) "i started watching f1 in… 2009 was the first season i properly watched. so when brawn came in, obviously mark was the only aussie on the grid at that point, so i was kind of naturally going for him. then joined by daniel, so obviously going to support the aussies, but i think watching lewis has been nothing short of spectacular, and a very good role model. [...] i think when i was first watching, i supported mark, but, you know, and i hope he takes no offense to this—vettel was winning everything at that point. so i was supporting mark, but vettel was doing most of the winning. i think now that i understand more about racing though, i would say [the driver i look up to the most is] lewis, mainly. the way he goes about things on and off the track is quite exceptional."
(mcl youtube; mar 29, 2023) sporting idols mentioned: ayrton senna, alain prost, michael jordan (see also ultimate athletes list)
(p1; aug 10, 2023) "i would say i never had like one specific idol. when i was growing up watching mark webber was at red bull, and obviously being australian, red bull being very quick at the time, i kind of naturally followed him. i mean—even like some of the guys in the junior ranks above me. like lando was always kind of two, three years above me, winning… most things on his way up. so i guess kind of him in some ways?"
(eff won; dec 4, 2023) "i don’t really have like one specific [idol]. i think what lewis has been able to do in terms of getting to seven world championships was incredibly impressive. i think what max is doing now is also very impressive…"

anyway, back to british f4! despite his initially unconventional foray into motorsport, oscar's journey progressed in a much more orderly fashion once he stepped up to single-seaters. his actual debut was in f4 uae, which he ran 3 rounds of between 2016 and 2017 (another fun fact: this is where he briefly acquainted himself with mclaren indycar driver david malukas, who would later recall him being very intelligent and whom zak brown allegedly spoke to oscar about before appointing to their indy team). after cutting his teeth on actual car-racing for the first time, oscar decided against moving up to the ok class as he felt confident in his ability to be competitive in single-seaters. his first full season was therefore the 2017 british f4 championship, during which oscar signed with arden while logan went to reigning champions carlin (lando had won with them in 2015, then maxf in 2016). oscar made his way to the top step 6 times in the season and placed just barely above logan for 2nd in the championship, finishing behind the considerably more experienced jamie caroline. arden was also founded and is currently owned by red bull team principal christian horner, so it was during oscar's time there that christian took note of and interest in his talent; oscar reportedly did a few runs in the red bull simulator but was passed over for joining the academy, which christian later voiced regret on. after a successful f4 outing with arden, oscar returned to the team for his first season of formula renault eurocup in 2018, a renault series that ran in its specific configuration until 2020 before merging with the parallel regional series frec to become what is today known as freca. this season proved to be less competitive for oscar, as arden was relatively inexperienced in this series and oscar's three teammates were afflicted with what can colloquially be referred to as a "skill issue," making it difficult to collectively develop the car throughout the season. (blog interview) the series was thus returning driver maxf's to lose, who at the time was racing for reigning champs r-ace with teammates that included oscar's fellow rookies logan and victor martins.
despite the unideal environment, oscar managed to prove his worth by placing a respectable 8th in the series, scoring 110 points as a rookie driver and capping the season off with 3 podiums and a top-finish of 2nd place—a jarring contrast to his teammates' joint total of 12 points. this result attracted the attention of r-ace and granted him a seat with them for the 2019 season, at which point maxf and logan both graduated to f3. thankfully that wasn't too much of a concern for oscar since he'd always intended to do two seasons of eurocup, and now he finally had a chance to win the first serious championship of his racing career with an established racing outfit.

oscar's second season of eurocup is when he truly started proving himself as a driver, or at least to the people whose names, money, and opinions mattered around the paddock. his main competition in 2019 was again victor, who was now racing for mp and had been made a member of the renault sport academy back in 2018 after a strong performance in french f4. despite a close title fight, oscar managed to hold him off for the championship in the final race of the season, kicking off what would soon become an impressive string of consecutive single-seater series titles. even sweeter was the fact that all eurocup champions were awarded a renault sport academy spot that could be left or taken as they pleased, and of course—while the finances weren't nearly as impressive as alpine would later proclaim in their baseless smear campaign—oscar's connections in the racing world were limited as an australian driver almost exclusively managed by his father, so he gladly accepted the offer for the many venues of support renault presented to him.

3. renault sport academy, lockdown, f3 (2020)
many things happened in 2020. one: oscar became an official member of the renault sport academy, joining the likes of max (who'd been picked up on merit after winning british f4 in 2017), guanyu, christian lundgaard, caio collett, and fellow new recruit hadrien david (victor had been strategically demoted after oscar's win because renault is a notoriously unserious organization, but again this is not the post). two: by the time oscar was ready for f3, moving up the ladder proved to be exorbitantly expensive, and he realized he needed better funds and managerial support to sort his career out. he'd been offered a spot in prema's f3 team by team-owner rené rosin at the end of his eurocup season, who'd named him for the post-season test before the championship was over and stressed that the spot was his no matter where he finished. (source) prema is unquestionably one of the top—if not frequently the top—teams one can drive for in most junior series (though there is also somewhat of a self-selection bias; if you ask oscar he is not a significant beneficiary of prematax!), having absolutely demolished the f3 competition that same year and achieved a clean sweep of the drivers' standings with rob shwartzman, marcus armstrong, and jehan at 1-2-3 consecutively. oscar completed post-season testing with them in spain alongside to-be teammates logan and fred vesti in october (source), before confirming on jan 26, 2020 that he would be joining them for the f3 season as a renault junior.
so, where does mark webber come in here? apparently mark's trainer from red bull and wec had also been oscar's trainer since 2016 (i'm pretty sure this is australian physiologist simon sostaric), and it was through their joint connection that oscar was introduced to mark. according to mclaren's 2023 season preview, "the pair hit it off, and webber took his countryman under his wing," signing oscar to jam sports management, aka the management agency he runs with his wife ann. mark's support would become a major factor in helping oscar progress through the feeder ranks and establish himself in f1, mainly because he had actual connections and could help oscar network with sponsors and negotiate his way during future signings. of course, more on this later.
as an aside, here are a few things mark has said about oscar:
"he’s got that white line fever when he puts his helmet on and turns into a different character, which is sensational." (mar 1, 2020)
"one of oscar’s biggest strengths by a mile, compared to everyone he is competing against — and this will be a huge string to his bow when he makes it to f1 — is his composure. he has immense levels of composure. [...] if you are weak mentally you won’t make it. he was on his own from an early age. he did brilliantly with his studies. but the racing disease would not go away, he wants it very much." (sydney morning herald; dec 11, 2021)
"he’s a prost, mate. he’s such a thinker and so calm. at first i thought i needed to inject a bit of urgency in him, but actually no, he’s got his own frequency. that’s just where he is." (the race; oct 7, 2023)
Tumblr media
estimates provided by chris piastri on the cost of oscar's junior career, stressing the million-dollar commitments of running a single season of f3 or f2 (source)
anyway, back to the chaotic events of 2020. i think something that's good to keep in mind when discussing oscar's time in the renault sport academy is that he was actually a relatively new recruit, as in he only participated in a single training camp with the other juniors in 2020 and most of them (max, christian, guanyu, the temporary ghost of victor) already knew each other before. oscar essentially met with renault's factory team in early 2020, filmed promotional material with other juniors in january before attending the season opener together in february and then heading to winter training camp later that month, after which he and max left early for f3 pre-season testing in bahrain on march 1—a blessing in disguise, seeing as caio, hadrien, and christian remained behind and would soon be stuck quaranting in a hotel in tenerife—then briefly spent a week at school before returning home for what was meant to be a quick pit stop at the australian gp, which at the time had yet to be canceled.
then, of course, lockdown happened.

oscar and maxf behind the scenes of the same event (feb 12, 2020)
stuck in australia for three months, oscar would end up participating in two fia virtual races, one for f2 and another for f1 (jun 7, 2020). a fun landoscar tidbit is that he finished 5th in the virtual gp right behind lando, so they technically had raced each other before 2023, depending on... well, whether you count a 2020 sim race wherein george russell and alex albon lead the pack as a real race. nevertheless, this was a time when drivers were becoming much more active online, seeing as streaming was the best way to keep their images relevant and connect with fans, and despite oscar expressing little interest in streaming on twitch he would still experience a considerable uptick in his online activity and twitter reach that year.
racing resumed on july 4 at the red bull ring in austria; oscar had been granted an exemption to travel to the uk and complete a 2-week quarantine back on may 27, a reassuring indicator to the motorsport world that the f3 season would run after all. now that he no longer had to attend school, having received 2 b's and 1 c for his maths, physics, and computer science a-levels, oscar relocated from hertford to oxford in june to be near the renault facilities, which he visited nearly every day to train at, and began living independently (as in in a flat) for the first time since 2016, rooming with fellow renault junior caio collet.
as i said before, this season is when oscar's online presence and "memeability" began to really conceptualize, enabled primarily by the fact that he was a) finally living outside of a school dormitory, and b) now, of course, signed at prema, a team notorious for its social media visibility, literal family atmosphere, and frequent youtube pandering. according to this f3 article, his twitter followers jumped from 795 at the start of the season to 11.6k by the time he won the championship, an audience built significantly off the self-deprecating string of jokes he used to tweet regarding drs and general reliability issues faced throughout the season.
what i guess i want to touch on here is how oscar's online presence has always been concentrated around the bare fundamentals of his personality: dry humor, candid words, sparing emojis, a few humorous photos detailing the mundane reality of his everyday routines, and at most the occasional inopportune meme or reaction gif (#thepiastri 🤷‍♂️, f2 in baku, jetpack guy, so on). he's bantered frequently with callum on twitter and near-obsessively liked memes, videos, and other updates lando shares with his audience, but he also has seemingly little interest in building up his own "brand" the way lando so smartly has with ln4 and quadrant, and quite frankly seems viscerally incapable of wanting to engage one-to-one with fans or otherwise leveraging the popularity of his material image. basically what i like to say is that oscar enjoys being adjacent to "lad humor" and will happily enable it, but he really has no interest in being the one to initiate it himself!
"there's some things you want to share, some things you don’t. in today's age and sort of having the profile that us drivers do, we kind of just have everything shared,” piastri said. “but (social media) can be used for good, certainly within the profiles that we have. but in some ways, it can be negative, and there's always going to be people out there that don't like you for being you.” piastri tries to write as many of his posts as possible, and he checks those written by his team to be sure they sound authentically him. (the athletic; jun 29, 2023)
along these lines, oscar does enjoy the spotlight, only he seems to prefer it concentrated in a specific lens toward a specific productive end. he's endlessly capable of seeing the objective upside of a situation, joking after he was made a meme in baku following his f2 sr1 collision that he was all for it if it got him popularity. after his eurocup championship he also said: "i think everyone loves a bit of spotlight on them. i think that's just human nature, so a bit of attention's always nice." which is interesting to me!
but back to racing. this season would unexpectedly become two things: maxf's last competitive season in motorsport—especially disappointing considering that he'd gone into the championship expecting to put on a second-season title charge, instead failing to gel with the hitech team to the point that each increasingly poor weekend made him spiral mentally—as well as oscar and logan's last season racing against each other before f1, since logan would later encounter financial difficulties that left him stranded in f3 as oscar catapulted himself to f2 victory. 2020 was obviously a weird season in general because of covid and the gap from pre-season testing, so it also meant that oscar had gone into the season fairly rusty; he managed to win the first race of the season, but on top of his drs rollercoaster he did struggle with middling results in qualifying and was met step-by-step throughout the championship by logan.
maxf's last race in f3 was the barcelona sprint race on august 16, with three rounds left to the end of the season. he dnfed in an unfortunate first-lap incident mere moments after oscar charged his way up from 5th on the grid to the front of the pack, where he would eventually breeze his way to victory and pull himself near-level with logan for the championship lead. i recognize that this is an oscar post and not a maxf post, but i think their time in f3 during an extremely isolated and covid-affected period speaks to both an interesting dynamic between them (the little kid who always lagged a series behind you suddenly beating you on merit) and their respective temperaments toward racing. while at renault, max reportedly lived with jack aitken during the week but would return to his family home on weekends, so it makes sense that he struggled to adapt when covid hit and drivers were collectively forced into very regimented sporting bubbles. mark webber, who worked for channel 4 as a commentator and had access to the f1 paddock, basically couldn't see oscar in person and instead spoke to him over the phone every day on race weekends. maxf said of his decision to quit:
"normally [...] i’m able to stay calm under pressure and i don’t let many things get to me but when you have a bad qualifying result and you see guys up there that you know you’re capable of beating, it definitely takes a dig at you inside and it’s been a lot to process throughout the year." (source)
while then-academy director mia sharizman, who worked closely with the renault juniors, spoke of oscar's inherent propensity for independence and how he adapted well to the pressures of living on his own:
"if you look at oscar piastri, he has been living on his own, [away] from his family who are in melbourne for the past five to six years. because he has been living on his own in boarding school, he learns how to live on his own, and he thrives in that. we have to force him... 'have you spoken to your father?!' it's just things like that, but he thrives in that. that's why he thrived in those weekends racing. he loves being on his own without anybody. on the other hand, we had max fewtrell, for example, who can't – he couldn't survive the 11 weekends racing, because he always needed his family to be around him. so those are the things that suddenly you see and, i think that that we see now, after a few years a driver who is quick, a driver who has the talent, and then the driver who is stable." (source)
2020 is also when lando and oscar spoke to each other on twitter for the first time. yay! after lando went semi-viral for having a meltdown over a hornet on three separate social media platforms, oscar first joked with him about it on august 24 (this was incidentally also the day maxf announced his functional retirement, which oscar liked as well 😭), before referencing the incident again a few weeks later in september.

outside of drs tweets and trying desperately to banter with lando norris, oscar's popular tweets at the time included several food-related mishaps and home appliance tragedies. while this isn't actually a lando moment, he was also slandered by the LN4 twitter account a month later on october 17 for reasons that remain a mystery, resulting in this set of interactions:

bonus: maxf's tweets @ oscar (when you aren't close enough to just text him.......)
but back to f3. similarly to his second season of eurocup, oscar would go on to clinch the title in only the final race of the year, this time even more stressfully—he never got pole that season and won arguably off of consistency, benefiting from errors and unfortunate collisions involving his primary competitors. after a hectic qualifying and string of contentious grid penalties set for the before-last round in monza, he began the feature race 15th on the grid but put on an impressive performance to finish on the podium, buffing his points lead after logan was tapped by clément and put out of the points. he, logan, and fred all dnfed in race 2 (read: the novalak pendulum swung away from oscar's favor to maintain stringent cosmic equilibrium, while logan and fred threw away a points opportunity with a teammate4teammate love tap), and oscar went into mugello with only an 8-point lead over logan and a 24-point lead over pourchaire. this weekend proved equally hectic, as is frequently the case with f3 racing standards, but in short oscar and logan entered the final sprint race level on points, with théo approaching terrifyingly near in their rearview mirrors. logan was unceremoniously taken out of contention on the first lap after contact with zendeli, and oscar managed to squeak his way to 164 points in the championship by placing 7th in the race; théo finished 3rd, with 161 points, two positions away from claiming both the race and the championship title.

a succinct summary of an eventful season! (posted jun 30, 2021)
despite winning the f3 championship in far-from-dominant fashion, oscar's career was now steadily on an upward trend. on october 30 he was rewarded with a private test in the r.s.18 at bahrain alongside christian and guanyu, and a month later confirmed that he would be racing for prema again in f2 (december 1, 2020). as a rookie f3 champion there was a moderate amount of interest in him, but no one really expected him to carry home the f2 title on his first try and so one of the main favorites going into the next season was his second-year teammate and 2019 f3 champion rob shwartzman.
4. f2, alpine reserve duties, #piastrigate (2021-2022)
at the start of 2021, fernando officially took daniel's place at renault and the team rebranded itself as alpine, parting ways with team principal cyril abiteboul and functionally replacing him with new ceo laurent rossi—part of a no-tp management structure, frankly a self-evident infrastructural faux-pas from a million miles away. the renault sport academy was then also renamed to alpine academy; again i know that this is an oscar post so i won't get too into the details of Alpine Being Alpine, but understanding how the academy functioned does help better contextualize the inevitable unfurling of piastrigate.
the main issue, really, would always be laurent rossi, or at least the values laurent rossi had been hired to represent and which he willingly peddled during his controversial tenure at alpine. after rossi's appointment it was reported that "the renamed alpine academy was now being tugged in two directions between director mia sharizman's ideal as a creator of future f1 drivers and alpine's chief executive officer laurent rossi's commercially-led preferences." (source) mia directed the academy from january 2016 until may 2022, and had been the one to restructure its recruitment process by demanding better funding and robust testing programs to cyril:
"when we first restarted the team in 2016, it was, we didn't even have a two-year-old car program at that time. we had to use a 2012 program using the [lotus] e20. [...] then in 2018, i went through it, and i said to cyril abiteboul, "look, let's try and do this." we needed financial resources. i needed a head start with financial resources to kick start the program whereby you entice drivers, and you offer [a place] to the academy drivers. it was more to see how they are... it was more of an evaluation process... that was what the first idea was. then we developed the program to develop the drivers to suit their formual 2 program." (source)
(note: mia also believed that 2020 was a disappointing year for all of his juniors save for oscar's performance in f3, which is a whole other thing. but rossi's greatest shortcoming was that he had singular, insulated vision, and he resisted any external input to the detriment of reactionary business decisions, a fact that alienated alain prost and soon led to his exit from the outfit in 2022. not a good look!!! prost would later call rossi "the best example of the dunning-kruger effect, that of an incapable leader who thinks himself able to overcome his incompetence with his arrogance and lack of humanity toward his troops." 🤌)
so basically, the cracks of mind-boggling incompetence within the team's leadership structure were long evident. on a brighter note, oscar's 2021 f2 season would quickly become his strongest single-seater contest ever (f1 youtube has a good summarizing video of his season, if interested); because of covid, f2 was experimenting with a three-race format this year in which quali set the reverse grid for sr1 and sr1 results then set the reverse grid for sr2, which essentially meant high qualifiers were rewarded for simply maintaining composure in the first sprint and running cleanly in the top 10 in order to secure a favorable grid spot in sr2. oscar adapted well to this format, building off his reputation of smooth, consistent driving on top of slowly improving his qualifying results over the course of the season, finally breaking through with his first feature-race win in monza.
Tumblr media
oscar with mia sharizman
this is also around the time when lando mentioned oscar in official f1 media for the first time, reading off a question about him to daniel in an interview posted in october:
Tumblr media
"this one's not even about formula one. it's about oscar piastri. oscar pias-tree! [...] he's been on it this year." — (full video) (oct 1, 2021)
of his own f2 campaign, oscar said:
"i thought that i could challenge for race wins, but i probably wasn't expecting to be so consistently at the front. consistency is something that i’ve had as a trait throughout my career, and i was expecting to be consistent in my results this year — but maybe a bit lower down!" (source)
not only did he end up being consistently at the front, he became virtually unstoppable in the second half of the season. on december 11, oscar clinched the title in abu dhabi with two races to spare, ending the season with 5 consecutive poles and 4 consecutive feature wins, 60.5 points above his previously-favored teammate in the standings. #notbadforashitqualifier!
by now oscar was a hot commodity in the paddock; the only problem was that alpine didn't really care, mainly because rossi had enthusiastically re-signed ocon to a three-year deal in 2021 and held zero intention of actually promoting any of its juniors to one of the race seats, plus the one open spot at alfa romeo had instead gone to guanyu and his considerable financial package (though oscar has always been vocally defensive of guanyu's appointment to his detractors). instead of moving to another series, such as indycar or super formula, oscar recognized that he'd proven everything he needed to prove within the feeder system and opted to remain on the grid as alpine's reserve driver, mainly so that he could embed himself in an f1 team environment and—most crucially—avoid being left "out of sight, out of mind," because once you go to america you usually don't come back.
i'll keep the rest of this post brief since i feel like everyone already knows What Went Down, but a quick highlight for fellow landoscar enjoyers was the 2022 australian gp on april 10, during which oscar accompanied rosanna tennant for the post-race show and awkwardly participated in a chaotic lando & alex interview. as far as i know, this was landoscar's first time interacting on-camera!
Tumblr media
o: "i haven't raced either of them, no." l: "not yet!" o: "not yet. hopefully soon." — (full video) (apr 10, 2022)
then silly season started, and everything was thrown into disarray when sebastian vettel announced his imminent retirement and fernando subsequently took his place at aston martin; alpine scrambled to recover from this blindsided move and prematurely promoted oscar to an f1 seat, to which oscar eventually posted The Tweet—claiming he'd never signed a contract with alpine and would not be racing for them in 2023, thus kicking off #piastrigate. or the piasco, or whatever you prefer to call it.
here's a good article that properly summarizes the crb ruling, but tl;dr: mclaren and alpine had come to an agreement back in march to loan oscar to mclaren's stable of reserve drivers after daniel contracted covid; mark webber, who was close to andreas seidl from their time at porsche in wec, quietly negotiated a contract with mclaren for 2023 that oscar would then sign on july 4, which was reportedly initially a reserve deal with an upgrade clause to a full-time drive given a dr buyout; alpine's legal team turned out to be essentially one overworked legal director who mishandled the situation thanks to a lack of organizational support, while a concrete williams deal never actually existed no matter what people continuously allege, and any proprietary right to oscar's services that alpine purported to have for the 2023 season would soon be voided by crb rule on september 2. in other words, they dun goofed.
because tumblr dies when i try to include it in this post, here's a link to a condensed chronological timeline version of this post.
that's it for now. i'm sure you know how the rest goes!!!

2012 CIK FIA World KF1 Championship Round I at Suzuka
In 2012, he came to Japan with his father, Jos Verstappen, for the KF1 class Suzuka event of the World Championship in May. Max was only 14 years old at the time, but he had already shown such talent that many of the older professional drivers from European kart manufacturers were calling him the "best of all time." Usually, when visually measuring a racer's speed, even an industry person like me has to watch a few laps to get an idea of how good the racer is. In Max Verstappen's case, after a few corners, I was absolutely convinced that he was awesome and had a good chance of winning all four races of the World Championship here in Suzuka. However, I can tell you now that all the engines brought in by the works teams at that time were not compatible with the commercially available gasoline in Japan... This had never happened before… Max was 14 years old at the time but he never gave up and did the best he could do and worked hard on the chassis set-up, sometimes setting the top time. Of the two chassis he brought from Italy, one with different specifications was in a perfect situation, but at the start of the qualifying race, he got sandwiched in turns 1-2, made contact, and retired, bending the chassis as well. The situation was quite difficult, but in one of the four races, he was able to finish on the podium in 3rd place, beating the very strong works drivers from various manufacturers. After the race, as a thank you for supporting this World Championship in Japan, they presented me with a trophy that had been signed by Jos Verstappen and Max Verstappen as a gift. It was obvious that he was going to be an F1 driver given his talent, but I had no idea that he would be driving F1 just three years after the World Karting Championship here in Suzuka.

Formula BMW engineer in interview: What makes Nico Rosberg tick
By Christian Nimmervoll, originally written 27 June 2015 for motorsport-total.com (x)
Tumblr media
Between VIVA and Keke: Peter Sieber worked with Nico Rosberg when he wasn't yet a Formula 1 star and remembers the 2002 season in Formula BMW.
Many people have the wrong impression of Nico Rosberg. He comes across as effeminate, pseudo-intellectual, aloof. But envy is something you have to fight for - and level only looks like arrogance from below (to quote some Facebook wisdom). In fact, the Wiesbaden native, who grew up as the son of Finnish Formula 1 champion Keke Rosberg and a German mother, is a well-bred, smart young man who speaks five languages, happens to be an excellent racer, and earns millions doing it.
What's still missing is the world championship title. With his victory at the Austrian Grand Prix last weekend, Rosberg proved that he shouldn't be written off even when his back is supposedly against the wall - there's life in the old dog yet. And in doing so, he gave himself an early birthday present: Today, June 27, the Mercedes driver turns 30 - and is presumably in the prime of his Formula 1 career.
Reason enough for us to talk to a man who not only knows the superstar Nico Rosberg, but also worked with the up-and-coming driver Nico Rosberg when he first came to Formula BMW from karting - and won it outright, as the very first champion of the then new series in 2002. Peter Sieber was hired as race engineer for the world champion's son - and taught him the basics of racing.
Getting to know about Arno Zensen
Question: "Mr. Sieber, how did you meet Keke and Nico Rosberg?"
Peter Sieber: "That went through Arno Zensen, now head of the Rosberg team in the DTM. Arno used to work for Walter Lechner, and we've known each other ever since. Franz Tost was also involved at the time, who is now the boss of Toro Rosso. At the time, they had a South African race engineer at Team Rosberg in Formula BMW who had to go back home. So they asked me if I would like to be Nico's race engineer."
Question: "Can you still remember the very first time you met Nico?"
Sieber: "I had seen him at tests before, when we hadn't worked together yet. My first impression was of a very likeable and well-mannered young guy. In all my years in motorsport, I've noticed one thing: Drivers who have what it takes, who have the potential to make it to the top, don't say anything loud, don't argue, but are professional even at a young age. That was the case with Nico from the very first moment."
"I was a bit scared with him: father Keke Rosberg, Formula 1 world champion, enough money. There are always these father-son stories when the father wants the career more than the son. But that wasn't the case. In terms of people skills, I learned a lot from Keke, namely from the way he dealt with his own son. Nico was always very interested, especially in technology. That's where he always wanted to know what was going on, everywhere."
Question: "They say that Nico was an intelligent student who, if racing hadn't worked out, would have studied aerodynamics or mechanical engineering. When they worked with him, he was still at school."
Sieber: "That's true. The others always said: 'Sure, that's Rosberg's boy, he can test the most and has the best material'. But in truth that wasn't quite the case, because dear Nico had just graduated from high school. So he skipped some tests, which I then had to drive with Kimmo Liimatainen, now team manager at the Rosberg team in the DTM. Because Nico didn't have time."
"Nico didn't have it easy. When he was good, everyone said, 'Sure, I can do it with these prerequisites. And when he wasn't good, they said: 'He's just Rosberg's son, he doesn't have his dad's talent. But Nico didn't want anything as a gift, he wanted to fight for everything. He worked his ass off to achieve that. I was captivated by him right from the start. I always tried to create the best conditions for him."
Spoiled millionaire's son my ass
Tumblr media
Question: "Lewis Hamilton said in the 2014 World Championship battle that Nico has always been a spoiled millionaire's boy, while he himself had to work hard for everything. If I'm interpreting you correctly, you don't agree with that at all?"
Sieber: "No. Keke and Nico's mother, Sina, have a very special attitude; they're not aloof people. When we had stopped working together, and Nico later won his first Formula 3 race, Sina still came up to me afterwards and gave me a hug."
"I say to her, 'Sina, I had nothing to do with that, it was Erich.' Erich Baumgärtner, a friend of mine who was Nico's race engineer in Formula 3. But Sina to me: 'No, Peter, I mean it, because you did the dirty work.' That was a statement for me! The first year is always the most difficult - that's when you have to teach a driver style, technique, work ethic. It wasn't easy, but with Nico it was really fun."
Question: "What does learning style and technique mean? You're hardly going to have ridden in front of Nico like an instructor…"
Sieber: "A young driver makes his first statements at the beginning, and as a race engineer I have to filter out the most important ones right away. Many say eight to ten problems at once, from which I then filter out the main problem. Because when the main problem is solved, the smaller problems usually dissolve as well. Then I see on the data: 'You need to brake earlier, but come out of the curve with more momentum.' Those are the first fundamentals you work on with a young driver."
"A young driver can only tell you about the car if you explain to him beforehand what's important. Nico soaked it all up like a sponge, he fought every second. From home he had the opportunity to race, car, engine, team - others may not be able to afford that. But his driving skills and assertiveness, he fought hard for all of that. Whether it was dry or wet, he was always really good."
Like Father, Like Son
Tumblr media
Question: "Nico's former kart team boss Dino Chiesa once said that Nico didn't get a PlayStation game from Keke that he really wanted, and that he also got relatively little pocket money. Which suggests that he felt relatively little of his family's wealth at the time, and was also just a young racer like any other."
Sieber: "I've known Keke for a long time. I can still remember that back then, as a junior driver, he always came to the race track with a trailer and bus. Keke learned to work his way up from the bottom. And he passed that on to Nico for his development."
"I remember the Formula BMW race at the Sachsenring. Officially, testing was banned, but others tested anyway. Our weekend went really poorly. The engineer was not good, the car was not good, the driver was not good. It was a pitch-black weekend, with spins and everything."
"Then Keke arrives, with a cigar in his mouth - and grins at me, who has such a blood pressure you can see my carotid artery: 'Peter, it's going to be all right.' And I: 'Were you in the wrong movie? What I saw was a disaster.' And Keke: 'What I saw is going to be fine.' Because you two are determined to make it together, and it's going to bear fruit.' At first I couldn't do anything with that, but then we improved from race to race."
"At the beginning, it was difficult to work together because I hadn't done all the official tests and first had to get to know the car and Nico. But then we worked our way up and became champions in the end. That season we had a test day at the Nürburgring before the race. I changed the gear ratio then, which is normally done by the mechanic. But there was no time for that because of the rain. And I mistakenly swapped fifth and sixth gear. In other words, where fifth gear should have been, sixth was - and vice versa."
"Nico drove out, came back to the pits very slowly and said with a smile on his face - with a smile, not kind of angry like others would be: 'Master, how do you actually count? One, two, three, four, five, six.' And I said to him: 'But you're doing your school-leaving exams right now, you'll manage that!' So he had to change gears stupidly, skip a gear with the clutch in the sequential gearbox, but he didn't care. The next morning I found a note on the transmission: 'Love from Nico, please put the gears in the right order!' That was Nico. That's the kind of person you live motorsport for."
Criticism always constructive
Question: "Were there also situations in which Nico could get loud?"
Sieber: "No, and that was the nice thing about working with him. If something wasn't okay, it was discussed, but not loudly or in an argument, but positively. He asked questions, contributed good ideas, and the collaboration got better and better. He worked hard for his success."
Question: "Nico already had the sponsor VIVA in 2002, in Formula BMW - and therefore had a lot of media presence earlier than other drivers. Was that an advantage or a disadvantage?"
Sieber: "People were already very attentive: son of Keke Rosberg, VIVA, very well-known among the youth. The hype was sometimes too much."
Question: "Girls, too?"
Sieber: "The girls raved about him anyway. But he didn't care. Nico did his stuff."
Question: "You can't tell me that Nico didn't have a girl at the start now and then…"
Sieber: "No, not at all, really! He wasn't the typical girl hero. Sometimes they are, and then they usually forget that racing should be the most important thing. That wasn't the case with Nico. He was focused and really never had a girl with him. It wasn't until the end of 2002 that I remember there being one - and I think that was his current wife Vivian."
Question: "In 2003, Nico met Lewis Hamilton again in Formula 3. Was it already foreseeable for you back then that this duel would continue into Formula 1?"
Sieber: "In Formula 3, Nico had a different race engineer, but that was a good acquaintance of mine, so I always knew what was going on with him. When we met at the race track, we always chatted. By the way, the contact hasn't completely broken off to this day."
"And yes, for me it was already foreseeable that this could go into Formula 1, because Nico simply has a very special way. He didn't have it as easy as Hamilton claims, as a spoiled boy who gets everything dumped in his lap. Our last race in Formula BMW in 2002 was at Hockenheim. Nico won, both races, in the rain and in the dry. Afterwards, there was the award ceremony for ADAC and BMW. Keke didn't go at all, but his mom, a few mechanics and I did."
Tears at Formula BMW victory ceremony 2002
Tumblr media
"Nico had a knitted cap on, I remember it like yesterday. Then they called him up and said they had another 'little' present for him. I wonder what that will be? A Formula 1 test drive at Williams! That's when he really broke down, sat down, put his hands in front of his eyes and cried. He was so happy at that moment because he was so disciplined, he did without so much. That's very difficult for a young lad."
"And: He himself had done it - not because he was Keke Rosberg's son, but because he was the first Formula BMW champion. That's when I realized what racing meant to him. I still remember that day today as if it were yesterday - it has stuck in my heart. He said: 'It was always my dream to drive Formula 1 one day. That's what I've worked for.' That was an honest moment. As honest as Nico is."
Question: "Do you think it sometimes hurt Nico to be reduced to Keke Rosberg's son? Did that get to him?"
Sieber: "I think it was close to him. As I said before, if he was good, then it was the good material, but if not, then he's just Rosberg's son, but not as good as Keke. But Keke always stood behind him and told him: 'Nico, you have the greatest job in the world, you are a racing driver. People are all coming here to see your race. Enjoy it and have fun.'"
"And so he took all the pressure off the kid. That was awesome. That was Keke. People were brutal to Nico sometimes. When all he ever wanted was for them to just respect that he was doing his job, that he was doing everything he could to get into Formula One, and that he had talent. The Rosberg name was very positive for Nico, but on the other hand it didn't make it easy for him either.
Question: "It doesn't sound like Keke interfered much with Nico.
Sieber: "No. He left us alone. If he saw something that the competition was doing, for example, he told me, but without interfering. He would say, 'You can worry about that.' That was it, but then he was gone again."
Always looked up to father Keke
Tumblr media
Question: "Nico's former karting team boss Dino Chiesa says that it was always important for Nico to once be as good as or better than Keke. Is that true in your opinion?"
Sieber: "He always looked up to his father, because Keke achieved a lot and was a driving force for Nico. But Nico was self-motivated enough to go this way and achieve something himself. He was looking in the right direction, he fought for it. Nico was an intelligent young man for his age. Of course, he sometimes took his cue from his father."
Question: "Were there ever moments when Nico cried to you about Keke?"
Sieber: "No, never. I admire the way Keke handled his boy. Keke always managed to motivate us all. In a positive sense, he was a gangster! It's okay to write that, I mean it in a positive way. Once he came to see me at the Nürburgring, Formula 1 weekend, and Nico had finished third in Formula BMW on Saturday. The conditions were difficult, race started in the rain, then it dried up."
"Keke comes up to me afterwards and is really happy about third place, but in the same breath says, 'We're not good enough, the others are better!' Inside I was boiling. That's when he lit a spark in me, so that even in the hotel I was still thinking about the car. And then we won on Sunday. Grins Keke: 'Oh, did it work?' Motivating his people, Keke always understood that."
Question: "Mr. Sieber, is there anything else you would like to add?"
Sieber: "Yes, two things. First, my son has a problem with his spine. I told Nico about it once in passing, and he said to me, 'Hey, my physio Daniel, he also had a back operation. I'll put you in touch with him, I'm sure he can recommend a good specialist. And that's what he did. He wouldn't have to do something like that - others don't."
"And another story: For the 2002 championship title, he got the Formula 1 test that Keke and Nico wanted to take me to. Unfortunately, my son was ill and I had to stay at home with a heavy heart. So they sent me a video after the test and talked to me live on the phone during the test. And Nico gave me his helmet, with which he became Formula BMW champion and tested Formula 1 for the first time, as a small consolation. That's just the way Nico is.
Question: "Will you wish him a happy 30th birthday?"
Sieber: "Yes, for sure. I'll think of something! We still see each other from time to time. Last year, for example, he invited me to the German Grand Prix."

Ok so no clue why, but... for some reason I had a dream where David was a young kid like 8-11 or so. Apparently he had a childhood reputation before becoming an inspirational speaker... as a kart racer.
It was like full-on batshit, post-chapter 2 reveal David... but as an insane, cocky kid running people over with go-karts essentially
Like, y'know those go-kart races or whatever? I think they have races in real life somewhere for kids riding those, and there's adult supervision and maybe school clubs for it idk. Junior League I think? But in this dream David frigging used to obliterate people in those racing competitions... like borderline get himself eliminated from the competition by staff for his crazy tricks and stunts type obliterate. He always somehow ended up covered in dust and mud from the race tracks, but he was still grinning like a maniac afterwards.
There was a bratty rival kid who was always on his case, too, but they didn't have a name rly he was just someone David used to know.
And kid David wanted to race full time and more professionally when he grew up, since he actually really enjoyed it... but then came the pressure about his inspirational speaking career taking priority, etc, so he had to abandon it once he got famous. It started off as a funny and neat dream, but it ended very depressing actually, with a hobby/dream he was passionate about in life just forced to fade into the background as a random detail of his past that nobody knows.
Idk why my dream gave me this weirdly creatively thought-up headcanon, but now all I can think is... David running people over
Which is kinda on brand for post-chapter 2 David ngl
Somebody ought to edit David running people over in a kids go-kart and if I ever get the time, that somebody shall be me
enjoy the mental image and funny/kinda sad thought, I guess xD

Fanfic: The fashionable besties (parody of parks and rec)
It was a normal day in sugar rush, nothing to special only Crumbelina doing her nails as usual; suddenly Rancis bust through Crumbelina’s door and Gloyd starts yelling.
Gloyd: G TO THE O IS IN THE BUILDING HERE TO ANNOUNCE THAT RANCIS FLUGGERBUTTER IS IN HERE!!!
Rancis enters in running while holding something in his hands.
Rancis: One two one two! Crumbelina!
Crumbelina: Rancis!
He opens up a box that he had in his hands and it’s revealed to be cupcakes.
Rancis: Got three words for you. Treat, yo, self.
Both: 🎵Treat yo self 2023!🎵
————
Rancis: Once a year, Crumbelina and I spend a day treating ourselves. What do we treat ourselves to?
Crumbelina: Clothes.
Rancis: Treat yo self.
Crumbelina: Fragrances.
Rancis: Treat yo self.
Crumbelina: Massages.
Rancis: Treat yo self.
Crumbelina: Milkshakes.
Rancis: Treat yo self.
Crumbelina: Fine wrapping goods.
Rancis: Treat yo self.
Crumbelina: It’s the best day of the year.
Both: The Best Day Of The Year!
—————
Crumbelina: I got a question, What do you think of inviting Sour Bill to come along with us today?
Rancis was dancing to the music that Gloyd was playing and was cut off due to crumbs question.
Rancis: Whaaattt? Nooooo. This is OUR thing.
Crumbelina: But he really looks like he could use a day off. He’s like a skinny little licorice band that’s about to snap in half.
Rancis: Exactly, he doesn’t know how to relax. Crumbs, you and I are relaxation professionals besides from being racers, there’s no way Sour Bill doesn’t have enough Candy Oil to keep up with us! My Fashionable bestie this is our holy day; it’s the one day of the year I allow myself to be selfish.
Gloyd sees the cupcakes and tries to grab one.
Gloyd: Ohhhh wait, you didn’t mention we were having cupcakes!
Quickly butterfingers grabs the box before the prankster could even grab one.
Rancis: Those are all for me, Gloyd.
———
Later the two try to find Sour Bill before they go to the mall. They spot him sitting down in a bench having lunch, he’s waiting outside for Vanellope so she can get her ice cream. The fashionable besties are inside the RV1 because Crumbelina was too lazy to get her kart when they started searching for Sour Bill.
Both: 🎵Treat yo self 2023!🎵
Crumbelina: Oh mod, is he eating cereal in a bench, in the afternoon? Alone? Rancis.
Rancis: *sighs* Fine.
Crumbelina gets out the kart and starts dashing and grabbing Sour Bill, Sour Bill in the other hand seems confused and tries to break lose, warning the president that he’s getting abducted. However when he did Vanellope wasn’t paying any attention, because the only thing she’s paying is the ice cream that she just got. (It’s rocky road)
Sour Bill: WOAH WOAH WOAH! HELP! IM GETTING ABDUCTED!!!
Vanellope walks out the ice cream store and sees Sour Bill being carried by Crumbelina, her eyebrows were raised.
Vanellope: Whatsup Crumbelina? Why are you taking away Sour Bill? He’s not off shift until 4.
The Tiramisu racer was going to explain, but the peanut butter racer did the job for her.
Rancis: Hey Nelly! Me and Crumbs are going to take Sour Bill to the mall for “Treat yo self” day. Care to join?
Crumbelina turns around: Rancis! We agreed to taking Sour Bill to our “treat yo self” day. Not your girlfriend, I know it can be more fun with her and all but how about you guys do this another day. Sour Bill NEEDS this!
Sour Bill: WHAT ARE YOU SAYING?!? VANELLOPE DO SOMETHING!
Vanellope: Thanks for the offer you two, but I got my own version of “treat yo self” this year. Ultimately this little sour ball needs it more than me. After all you have been feeling like a flat tire these past couple months.
Sour Bill: What? Never once did I ever been feeling like a “flat tire”.
The glitchy racer leans towards sour bill and looks him face to face. All the while, Crumbelina is carrying him like a basketball.
Vanellope: Oh really, then why are you eating cereal in the afternoon?
Sour Bill paused before he could even say anything.
Vanellope: You see, you probably skipped breakfast, and this is your way of making it up.
Rancis: Does this mean we get to take him? Or….
Vanellope: Yes, as the president of this game, you two gotta bring some life into this smushed wad. Tell me how it goes, as for you Sour Bill I command you to NOT try to run away from them, if you do I WILL cut your salary for today.
Sour Bill: WHAT! You can’t do this. I don’t want to hangout with these two. They’ll probably talk about teenage stuff that I’m not too fond of, there has to be another way!
Vanellope: Nope. I made up my mind when licking this ice cream.
During this was happening, crumbs moves over to the president and started to get concern.
Crumbelina whispering: Is this is your way of punishing others?
Vanellope whispering: Nah, I’m just being menacing on purpose, so he doesn’t try to do anything else.
Crumbelina whispering: Oh ok, just checking cuz I thought you were taking this whole thing a little too serious.
Vanellope whispering: Now when did I ever acted serious?
Crumbelina whispering: Pfff you’re so right.
Rancis: Are you two gonna keep this going or what?
Vanellope: We’re done!
Rancis: Nice, come on let’s go!
Vanellope walks up to Rancis window. While Crumbelina puts Sour Bill in the back and puts a baby seatbelt on him so he wouldn’t try to escape, she pats him in the head like if he was a baby. (He starred back) Crumbelina sits in front, puts on her seatbelt but not without hearing what Sour Bill had to say about all this.
Sour bill: Can I still have my cereal?
Crumbelina grabs the cereal and throws it without hesitation. The cereal manages to fall into a garbage can and it can be heard shattering when falling into impact.
Crumbelina: There will be enough food in the mall to make up for it. Trust me it’s for the better.
Crumbelina turns to look at Vanellope and see what she has to say before they leave.
Vanellope: Have fun you three, send me some pictures or videos if you can, also before you go, I’m giving you three some cash.
Crumbelina was excited when Vanellope took out the cash, she just loves money. Rancis was actually surprised he would get extra money from today, because he would rather waste his own money he earned over the past couple of days.
Rancis being confused: Huh? Why?
Crumbelina starring at the cash: Gimmie.
She was swiping her hands while vanny was explaining.
Vanellope: Cuz why not? It’s treat yo self day! You guys deserve it and I doubt that Sour Bill isn’t carrying money on him.
Crumbelina kept swiping her hands towards the cash in front of her, this manages to push back Rancis against his seat because she couldn’t resist The temptation of money.
Crumbelina: Gimmie, the, cash, Vanellope.
Vanellope: Slow your cinnamon roll there, Crumbs; take it easy!
Rancis unable to move: AH! Crumbelina your squishing me!
While Crumbelina was basically trying to snatch the cash from the president hands. Sour Bill was trying to get out the baby seat and felt uncomfortable due to the seatbelt being so tight.
It’s that today, TODAY. He’s being dragged to hangout with two racers that are friends of Vanellope, not just TWO racers, but the ones who’s are the most annoying.
(He just thinks these two are the worst ones)
There’s the vain one who doesn’t shut up about his looks or even anything at all, and there’s the posh one who really wants to get more money for the sake of having more money. Don’t even think about how he feels about the others. He’s being taken against his will all because he doesn’t seems happy, so the two weirdos are taking him out to “Treat Yo Self” day.
He managed to get no hope about all of this even when he was thinking about all the possibilities that can go right or wrong for today. Either way this will not treat him.
Rancis: Bye Nelly!
Crumbelina: See ya Vanilla stick!
Vanellope: Vanilla stick? That’s the 50th nickname I’ve been given these past couple of days.
Crumbelina: You’ve been counting?
Vanellope: Yep, there’s about 50 of them and my personal favorites are president boogerface, nelly, vanny, etc.
Rancis giving her a gaze: It’s nice to know the nicknames I gave to you are your favorite.
Vanellope giving him a gaze back: It’s nice to know your using the kart we made together.
The two starred at each other, both eyes sparking with love. Crumbelina looks at her phone to see that they are “running late” and sets the stick in reverse when those two were distracted making lovey dovey eyes. She wants this day to get started and she’s a bit impatient about it.
Crumbelina rushing her words: Oh wow! Would you look at the time, welp better get going! Thanks for the money, chit chat, all that. See yea!
Rancis being a bit uneasy: Um. Bye Nelly.
Vanellope backed away from the car and waves bye before leaving. She looks at her ice cream that melted, it got in her sleeve.
Vanellope: Aw ginger snap.
————
Rancis parks the car in front of the mall, Crumbelina walks out first and starts putting her sunglasses in her eyes even though it’s a cloudy day in Sugar Rush.
Crumbelina: Let’s go.
Both walk out forgetting Sour Bill is in the back. He starts to give both a deadpan stare before panicking.
————
Crumbelina: What store should we try out first.
Rancis: Only one way to find out.
The two start going into multiple stores which sold very stylish things that a teenager would buy. Sour Bill was dragged into the stores and was watching both trying out new clothes, he could just walk out any minute now; but he decides to stay with the clear mention of Vanellope threatening to cut his salary if he left. The thought left when the two outrageous racers walked out with the most expensive clothes that they absolutely love.
Crumbelina: I really want this dress, and I like the candy crystals but it’s expensive. And there’s no use for it. What should I do?
Rancis: Crumbs,
He shows off a cool outfit.
Rancis: Treat. Yo. Self.
————
Rancis: Velvet slippies, Cashmere socks, velvet pants, cashmere turtle. I’m a cashmere velvet candy cane.
Crumbelina grabbing Rancis by the shoulders: TREAT. YO. SELF.
Rancis smiles. Sour Bill doesn’t.
Sour Bill: This is insane.
————
The three finishes shopping and the two racers have multiple bags that they are carrying. Sour Bill has been walking around with them not getting anything but one bag.
Rancis: Man did you ever bought anything?
Sour Bill: Yeah I got these pair of socks.
Fluggerbutter looks at the bag and it’s just pairs of socks. He didn’t even know there was a sock size for Sour bills tiny bean-like structure.
Rancis: Pairs of socks? THATS NOT A TREAT.
He starts jumping to best friend’s arms, seeing that Crumbelina’s plan isn’t working and how Sour Bill was not even close to being selfish for the ONE SIGNALER DAY OF THE YEAR TO BE SELFISH.
Rancis: Crumbs! Get me away from him!
Crumbs looks at her best friend and tries to excuse Sour Bill reasonings onto why he choose to buy socks. Even though it’s a bit strange that he wears pairs in the first place.
Crumbelina: Maybe this is his version of Treat yo self day.
Rancis: What do you mean?
Crumbelina in a curious tone: Sour Bill if you had any money to blow out.
Sour Bill looking at the bag of socks.
Crumbelina: Not sock money. What would it be?
Sour Bill started thinking.
He started walking very fast when the thought hit him. The two racers were actually hyped about having to see what Sour Bill wanted to buy that makes him very happy. However we they went to the store Sour Bill told them to close their eyes until he goes to the changing room. The store they went to sold comics and outfits, both sitting down in front of the changing room, ready to see the reveal.
Sour Bill: You better not say anything.
He said when changing.
Rancis: We won’t.
Crumbelina: Oooooh, this is actually making me feel excited. Like I’m very hyped on what we’ll see.
Sour Bill: Alright. I’m re-ready…
Sour Bill walked out with a Iron man costume. He wore the helmet with it’s gloves and shoes.
(The helmet only fits him because he’s a sphere)
The two were in shocked, Rancis put his hands between his cheeks with a very strong surprised expression. Crumbelina had no words but her best friend did.
Rancis: Oh my Mod! (x3)
THIS A WHOLE NEW LEVEL OF NERD.
The green ball started blushing.
Sour Bill all nervous: Your right, this is ridiculous! What am I doing.
Rancis in a panicked tone: No! No! In a good way, Sour.
He goes on one knee and touches his helmet.
Rancis: Listen to me; You’re apart of the treat yo self team now. Ok? If that costume somehow makes you happy. Your going to buy it! And your going to wear it outta the store, ok? Your going to treat yourself!
Sour Bill: Yeah, you know what I’m going to do that. I’m going to treat myself. Thanks you two.
The two looked at each other giving a successful smile that reads “We just got this man to finally be happy.” The shiny hero, Sour bill started tearing up.
Sour Bill in the brink of sobbing: Thank you… I-I really needed this. I go- *sniff* going to treat myself…
Crumbelina: Uh Oh Iron man crying.
————
The three sat down in the public seats in the mall.
Crumbelina: What’s wrong?
Sour Bill: I’ve been overworking myself because I’ve working overtime because I want to be a loyal servant but not focusing on myself. Due to that I self sabotage in the process.
Crumbelina: That’s why Vanellope encourage the idea for you to come with us. She knew that you wouldn’t come in your own terms.
Rancis: Sorry, that you’ve been stretching your well-being like a gummy worm.
Crumbelina: Your already a loyal servant, Sour Bill. There’s no need for self sabotaging, cuz your perfect just the way you are. Your going to be ok.
Rancis: There’s Peep heads everywhere, Sour; as in mindless servants all around this all. They don’t have anything outside of their work at least you have some interest. You should ask Vanellope about how you’ve been and she’ll surely let you have a week off from work or more. But for now, let it out, treat yourself to a good cry if you have to.
Sour Bill: Thanks.
Rancis: One question though.
Sour Bill: What?
Rancis: I Am Groot!
Sour Bill smiles and sees that despite how he viewed these two, their not that bad.
————
From there on the three had some fun in the mall and bought some things that they really cherish and enjoy, and they very much took pictures of themselves with videos in mind.
They finish up shopping and drop off Sour Bill at the castle so he can tell Vanellope about him taking a break from work.
————
Vanellope: You want a break?
Sour Bill: Yes, and it’s because-
Vanellope: Hold your speech there, Greeny I’m guessing you need to get yourself a break because you realized self care is more important than working overtime. Am I striking the maple barrel?
Crumbelina and Rancis looking down at Sour bill: Yep.
Sour Bill, in a shy tone: Is that a yes?
Vanellope: Of course! You’ve been carrying my hardworking butt ever since I first became president. You deserve whatever long time you need to regenerate.
Sour Bill: What about you? Who’ll help you with the work?
Vanellope: I know I might get into sticky situations but I know I’ll glitch my way outta there. Besides you got a suit with a helmet that can definitely help you when you get into trouble.
The three laugh while Sour Bill cheers. First time Vanellope and the others heard from the ball, guess that treat yo self day works in a lot of ways and can surely bring enlightenment into those who really need it.
————
The end.

hi everyone, i'm here want to talk about yesterday incident/crash.
spa-francorchamps. arguably, one of my favorite circuit in f1, but spa is also the most dangerous track, especially when it's wet.
the lives of two young racers taken, on the same circuit. anthoine hubert (1996—2019) and dilano van 't hoff (2004—2023). too bad they died while chasing their dreams during the race, may they both rest in peace.
if they continued like this, how many lives would they want to take? so far i haven't noticed any change. this has to be fixed, i swear to god.
EVEN BERNIE ECCLESTONE WOULD BAN THE CIRCUIT IF HE KNEW THE DEATH TOTAL. he would ban checks like trillions of dollars, but now, the FIA's reaction is like "yeah."
in fact he knows how to be safe and fun i mean look!! even before the halo era, there weren't that many deaths. there may be no deaths in f1 from 2000 to 2017, and liberty media is coming to take over the FIA and f1 and other stuff, people dies.
and, i got a massage from a friend which her friend saw the crash irl. with her/his own eyes. of course, it would be so scary if you see it directly. especially little kids who like racing cars and they watched it irl and then, they saw the crash. it would be traumatize little kids, including me.
i've seen car/motorcycle crash with my own eyes and mostly just hear the news. I'm also a young racer too and still at karting level, and trust me, a little collision with another racer, you must be worried. because, i ever felt that way.
i saw a terrible crash while watching a race, my heart felt like it stopped for a few seconds and i felt more worried than usual. like grosjean's crash, it's pretty bad, you know. could result in death if he stayed in the car for too long.
that's all from me, thank you. i hope they'll change this, i don't want this incident continue for the next few years, i'm very worried about the young or professional racers who will drive in spa. i don't want to see any deaths in spa-francorchamps or hear a news from it.

TK might be short in stature but he is huge in personality. Fiercely competitive on and off the track, he is also friends with just about everyone. He’s like a favorite crazy uncle, a mischievous prankster yet willing to dispense the wisdom gathered from decades of racing to anyone who needs it. More fit than men more than half his age, he is an avid sportsman, competing in Ironman competitions, marathons and biking competitions. (Don’t touch his bike. Ever. Ask Dario about that.) He also is a big Sim racer, with his own line of Sim rigs, and a ‘hidden’ lair in his house containing two top of the line rigs.
A member of the Indycar ‘Brat pack’ of the late 1990’s. Tony Kanaan, Dario Franchitti, Max Papis and Greg Moore. Their off track antics were legendary as were their results on the track. TK is the last of that group still racing, with Greg Moore lost in 1999, and Dario and Max long since retired. The 2023 Indy 500 is his last ride.
TK and Dario went on to form a new pack of sorts with Bryan Herta, Scott Dixon, and Dan Wheldon, later adding Marco Andretti as a sort of little brother.

I don't wanna go in TOO obvious a direction, so for 1 and 2 how about ChimeraShipping and Ao Lie respectively?
Alright!
Chimerashipping when I started shipping it if I did: Man, I don't even know… I think I'd seen a few fanarts before officially starting the series, and being like "Huh, if a huge part of the fandom just says 'fuck love triangles/demonizing the girl, let's make an OT3' that must be a well-written trio." I don't know when I actually got on board with it, but I think I was just sorta nodding along while marathoning the show and going "Hm, yep, I see it." my thoughts: Thank god people just say "What a healthy pair of platonic besties and a demon who has two hands," instead of just demonizing Mei or ignoring her. What makes me happy about them: They all bounce off each other in the best ways, and can always support each other. Also I love the various 'cuddle pile' fanarts. What makes me sad about them: ALL OF THEM NEED THERAPY. things done in fanfic that annoys me: I don't think I've actually seen anything that annoys me in Chimerashipping fanfic? things I look for in fanfic: Mei and MK being open about "Just because someone dates me doesn't mean they can ignore my bestie." Red Son being honest about liking both of them. Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: Dragonfruitshipping + aroace MK My happily ever after for them: They all get some therapy, are happy and thriving. Red Son is an inventor/engineer, Mei is a hobbyist racer and streamer (she knows the professional world for both careers is rough), MK is just vibing and doing what makes him happy. who is the big spoon/little spoon: They're a sandwhich. Mei and MK on either side of Red. what is their favorite non-sexual activity: Snuggling. Also Mario Party/Mario Kart.
Ao Lie
How I feel about this character: HE IS A JUST A GUY. LOOK AT THE GUY. Also holy hell, what a great friend + literal embodiment of 'little screentime, huge impact.' Also I've seen people say he and SWK were like Mei and MK, and I definitely agree. All the people I ship romantically with this character: N/A My non-romantic OTP for this character: Ao Lie + SWK = besties for lyfe My unpopular opinion about this character: I do NOT think the Samadhi Fire killed him. Leads to some amazing angst fanwork, but I don't think it happened. Simply because I'm pretty sure Mei would have been aware if her great x a thousand grandfather had spontaneously combusted, or if people in her bloodline had a tendency of dying via fire-splosion. I think it just hopped to his own child instead, and so on and so forth. One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: Wish we could've had more scenes of him and SWK. my OTP: None. my cross over ship: None. a headcanon fact: I like to think he did a very fairy tale thing and married a random human farmgirl (I think there must've been a lot of humans in Mei's ancestry) and everyone was surprised.
"Ohhh, right, I didn't tell you I got married!" Baijie: "WHAT DO YOU MEAN, YOU GOT--"

an episode of sbtgrvl's six questions, with valtteri bottas
Q: how did you get into car racing?
A: actually by accident. i was the first one in my family to do any form of car racing. i was 5 years old in my hometown of lahti with my dad, we were going to town, and there was a sign that there was a go kart race. we decided "okay, let's have a look," we didn't really know what is karting. it was a finnish championship event, and apparently as a kid, i was pretty wild--it was the only time i was sitting still for two hours.
we went to the club the next day and they had some rental karts that you could try. but i was too short, i couldn't reach the pedals. so then i was really sad and we went back home. my granddad told me that "if you eat porridge every morning, next summer you could be able to reach the pedals." and yes, i had porridge every morning all winter and magic happened: i could fit the kart next time!
Q: what would you say is the greatest moment in your career?
A: it's a tough one, because there's been like the go-kart days when a single win in a club race you get so much joy. but along the way, i would still say my first win in formula 1 because that was a bit of a surreal moment for me. you know, dreaming of it as a kid, always watching on tv, and then one day actually being there on the top step of the podium. and that was 2017.
Q: what is it about cycling that you're drawn to?
A: there's lots of things i love about cycling. obviously, i think a big motivation why my cycling has improved has been my girlfriend, tiffany cromwell. she's my hero. obviously, it's her job, she's a professional, but it's something we can do together. for me, it's a hobby. it's a big part of my life. it's good for training, obviously, for cardio. for me, it's such a nice way to see places. because i'm fortunate that i can travel quite a bit with f1 and also between the races. like now, i've decided to come to colorado and see some new places. it's also nice to have the races as mini-goals between the f1 races.
Q: whose job is harder? yours as a formula 1 racer or tiffany's as professional cyclist?
A: i have to say that they everyday life of a cyclist is pretty brutal. like yes, i mean, our sport is physical and demanding in different ways. but the amount of training that professional cyclists have to do every day, the amount of hours, is brutal and painful. from my side, hats off to every pro cyclist. it's definitely not the easiest sport you could choose. f1 is different because we are pushing ourselves quite a bit mentally. because in the end, it is a skill sport. but also physical. but then there's all the other things, the media commitments, the sponsor events, the happenings are the race week. so being able to still focus and performing on track while all this craziness is happening. that's the hard part. but it is physical, like in miami, it was quite hot. i lost 3 kilos during the race.
Q: can you speak about the physical demand of being in an event like that?
A: as a driver, you need endurance, because the race is always longer than 1.5 hours. and obviously in hot conditions, the better endurance and cardio system you have, it helps. then also, you need quite a strong core and neck, because the g forces put quite a bit of pressure on your body. at the same time, you need to be fast in terms of decision-making and reaction times. the training we do is kind of a mix of cardio (bike), strength (core), and reaction/speed skill training.
Q: what is finland cycling like?
A: it's beautiful there. actually, many of the aspects in finland for riding reminds me a lot of colorado in a way. like the nature is similar. amazing gravel roads, there's so much for me to still explore. i really got into cycling 2-3 years ago. but for example in my hometown, lahti, there's so much gravel roads. beautiful nature, lakes, paths, and normally it's pretty quiet. like you can go for a ride and you don't see anyone. the only thing is we do get proper winters, so the cycling season is not year-round unless you want to kit up.

His unrivaled technical skills, natural speed ability and cool, karate-inspired attitude make him a powerful contender too." His car also carries the flag of Grenada, home to his family who emigrated to Britain in the 1950s. With his striking metallic black and yellow paint scheme, Lewis will represent Great Britain at the World Grand Prix. Today, the celebrated native Brit continues to bring an exceptional work ethic and soft-spoken confidence to the race course where his extraordinary achievements speak for themselves via a spotless track record on the junior and professional circuits. Like all youngster cars, Lewis spent his childhood going to school, taking karate lessons and winning the British Karting Championship by the age of 10.
" Lewis Hamilton, the famously sleek and seriously fast #2 Grand Touring Sports champion, has been a determined and winning racer for nearly his entire young life.
He is friendly towards his opponents, and appears to have a close friendship to Lightning McQueen, as well as Jeff Gorvette and his replacements. Lewis is humble about his victories, and does not brag to others, unlike Francesco. He has a spoiler with yellow and black, as well as the World Grand Prix logo, on it. He has the number 2 painted on his doors, inside of a badge with his country and Grenada's flags and the WGP logo. He is painted completely black with yellow lining on his sides. Lewis' engine is a DOHC V-8, with a horsepower of 575. He has a top speed of 190 mph, and a 0-60 of 3.4 seconds. However, Lewis is modeled after a McLaren MP4-12C GT3, although he has some slight differences, notably in the appearance of his rear lights. In Cars 2: The Video Game, Lewis can only be found in the PSP version of the game, as an opponent during races.ĬARS 2 - Lewis Hamilton - Disney Pixar - Only at the Movies June 23Īccording to Meet the Cars Lewis is a 2009 Grand Touring Sport Special GBG. In the race, he and Jeff were in each other's positions, which he talks with Jeff while lining up, and raced beside him. After that, he raced in Radiator Springs. After the racers race through the Admiralty Arch he was seen in the 3rd position, passing Miguel. When the race begins, he was seen in the 4th position behind Miguel Camino.

Before the London race, Lewis was seen with Jeff laughing at Mater and McQueen in Mater's flashback. When the pileup of cars starts during the Italy race, Hamilton and Gorvette stop to avoid being hit and are the only racers to be able to do so, which he along with Jeff were the only cars who did not crash into Shu Todoroki, and a few of the racers who did not get hit by the Lemons' electromagnetic pulse generator. Lewis was seen at the Porto Corsa race behind Jeff Gorvette. He is then seen at the race, which he appears in all three. He then later appears with the other World Grand Prix racers when Mater is drinking from the fountain after having too much wasabi, which he thought was pistachio ice cream. When they notice Mater talking to Zen Master, he was wondering who he was with. In Cars 2, he first appears talking with Lightning McQueen and Jeff Gorvette when they arrive at the World Grand Prix opening ceremony in Tokyo, which he and Jeff meet McQueen. We had a great time sending pictures back and forth and sharing notes." He wanted the car to be black with yellow pinstriping, and he picked the wheels. His emblem combines the Union Jack and the flag of Grenada – which is on his actual helmet. Producer Denise Ream said: "He was very particular about what he wanted. Lewis Hamilton was directly involved in the design of his character, (and was also the only voice actor to do so): at his suggestion, the gray design was abandoned (and apparently passed on to Prince Wheeliam) and changed to the final yellow-striped black paint job, with different wheels. It seems that the gray color was chosen after the colors of the McLaren racing team. He had a grayish paint job with a ghost pattern of Union Jack, and wheel trims shaped after the Union Jack, exactly as the final design of Prince Wheeliam. Originally, Lewis was to be named Lewis Revington.

Hamilton chose the car’s final black and yellow paint scheme for the car in the movie. Lewis is based on, named after and voiced by the real British Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton.

Yknow, I often say “I’ve played a LOT of racing games these past few years!” but never actually bothered to check the numbers. I do literally have a list of (nearly) all games I’ve played since 2021 so let’s check that out!
