I think this was 2019 pride, the last pride event I attended. It really does suck that covid is going on right now and will possibly be happening for awhile because I miss gatherings/events like this. Especially considering I don't get out much and the energy at pride was amazing!

Title: “Holding Hands” (A special silent strip for Pride 2019.)
“I’ve become very familiar with his hands. Dating Simon Snow hasn’t been the erotic grope fest I’d always imagined–so far, it’s a lot of sitting in silence and thousand-yard stares–but we do hold hands almost all the time.”
- Carry On by @rainbowrowell
About the Art: A close gay friend of mine posted something to his facebook during Pride a couple of years ago that has stuck with me ever since. He said holding hands in public–a simple act most cishet people never give a second thought to–is a sacred gesture to him and other members of the LGBTQ+ community. He said that, for queer folks, holding hands in public can place a target on your back. The ability to do it freely and openly is difficult, and those who do it do so courageously. He was right; I’d never thought about it that way before he wrote about it, and it broke my heart.
I also admittedly wondered if Rainbow had this in mind when she wrote about Simon and Baz after the White Chapel. Whether, after all she’d put them through, she’d purposely given them a future where they could hold hands all the time.
Anyway, while I’m technically on the alphabet (being a demisexual), I know that my experiences and struggles pale in comparison to those who deal with ignorance, inequality, injustice, and often violence because of how and who they love. I’ll use what privilege I have to change that.
So this Pride, if you need a hand to hold, take mine. 🏳️🌈
