Random au idea. Monster hunter au? Not related to the game monster hunter. Spirit hunter au? Whatever.

Naomi

Possessed by Wolf Spirit( Zacian).

Curse caused violent outbursts when she was younger, endangering her and those around her.

Felicity, her mom, found a way to keep the curse/ possession at bay with a magic necklace. But also thinks it's safer to move away from the place that potentially caused it ( the slumbering wields). She decides it's safer to move to the city.

Naomi is devastated, obviously, to leave her only friend. But she says her goodbyes.

Years later, as adults, Naomi and Hop have not contacted each other in ages. Or rather. Hop is still trying to connect with Naomi but Naomi is adamantly ignoring it. Not out of malice. Out of fear.

Naomi is trying to live a normal life now.... As normal as it can get when you're possessed by the Wolf Spirit. Her violent tendencies have lessened a lot since she was child. But no she's prone to zone out, forgetting things. Forgetting people. Even if she's looking directly at them. She can't remember her dad's face.

But other than that, she is normal. Just a normal girl in the city. Trying to get along. Carol helps in their own Carol way. She is normal.

..... It's hard to have normalcy when your childhood friends pop up out of nowhere. Even worse when he's insistent that you look for a sword with him.

Hop

While Naomi was cursed/ possessed, Hop was blessed. Zamazenta watched over him in his youth, when Naomi left. He was his only friend. He gained powers from him.

Zamazenta tells him what he knows: Zacian- his sister- spirit is corrupted, making her a shadow of what she used to be. Her mind is still on the Darkest Day, the heat of battle and war on her skin. Violence is all she knows.

Hop , in his youth, tries to tell Naomi this. She doesn't listen. It pains him when they lose contact. When Naomi stops talking to him. He spirals a bit- she probably made more friends. Probably forgot about him. But he still stays hopeful. He will help his best friend.

Turns out his family knows more about spirits than they led on. His dad was a spirit hunter. Hop is upset no one told him. Upset that he's denied to look into it.

Sonia helps him though. Helps him research anything and everything there is to know about Spirits, corrupted ones, and other monsters that haunt the shadows. Zamazenta helps in anyway he can, but is oddly quiet when a certain creature is brought up.

One day, in his late teens, Hop vows to his mom that he's gonna find Naomi and save her. Her and Zacian. He waits for her to argue, like she would before. But she just stares at him. And then she leaves for her room. Somehow that feels worse than any argument they would have. But then she comes out with a small box.

" I- I burned the rest. I'm sorry I-" she catches her breath, " I don't like what you're doing. Not one bit. But if you are anything like your father- if you're anything like me, then you're stubborn to a fault. I don't want to argue with you anymore Hoppy. But I don't want to lose you too. Promise me you'll come back safe. Promise me."

He promises.

Hop doesn't leave until he reaches 18. His mom gives him as much as she knows - as hard it may be given it reminds her of her late husband - and Hop himself trains with Zamazenta.

When he arrives in the city and finds Naomi, he's overjoyed. Beyond overjoyed. But that feeling shatters when she says she doesn't know who he's talking about. That he must be thinking of someone else. That she runs off despite him insisting it's him.

Did.... did she really not want to see him?

Carol

Carol is the one friend that Naomi has made in the city. A petty thief, pickpocketing out of the richer folk, causing some mischief in their wake.

Naomi usually has to bail them out of trouble, which always leads to her chewing their ear off.

They know they're the bastard child Rose. They hate seeing him on T.V. Seeing him be praised as if he didn't leave his family behind. Not that they would know.

How they meet Naomi? They saw the necklace she was wearing and tried to steal it. Naomi almost broke their arm in response. They've been friends ever since.

They know about the possession and have been looking into themselves. Offered Naomi the option to do Spirit hunting to see if they can learn anything. She always says no, so they stopped bringing it up.

Pretty protective of Naomi in general. The city is cruel, and Naomi is probably the nicest person they've ever met. She already has a lot on her plate. They don't want the city to bring her down too.

That's it for now. I think the way this au work is that Spirit Hunting is an actual profession someone could have. Hop's dad was one, and he died on the job, hence why his mom didn't say anything about it and was against Hop getting interested in Spirits himself. That being said, there's some problems already. I can imagine Rose owning an establishment that cultivates The Best spirit hunters. Leon would be one of them. So why would she let Leon go and not Hop? I know in game there's some favoritism between Leon and Hop but even then,the way I see it , their mom would not let them follow the path of their father if it means them getting killed. Maybe she didn't, and Leon ran away? It adds more to the " I don't want to lose you too," angle. And the loneliness that Hop feels. Hmmmm.

Please imagine Hop, Naomi, and Carol + Leon coming up with a contest-like performance, creating an over-the-top fantasy reinterpretation of the first Darkest Day. These dorks are all so dramatic and theater kids. Their Legendary Partners are definitely participating as well, so they get nice special effects, illusions, impossible architecture, etc..

Naomi and Hop get a double rematch, because they go against both Leon and Eternatus, like Hop and Gloria do in Masters.

Also!

Leon’s not only Eternatus’ trainer. He’s also the dragon they’re saving the region from. They’re both the Dragon. (They’re saving them from the region.)

They then look at their mom, who’s holding out a spoon with a hopeful smile on her face, Emmet and Carol do rock-paper-scissors. Carol won. Emmet winces as he takes the spoon from Winona and tastes the sauce.]

Emmet, grimacing trying not to gag.: Oh-Um....You got the sour part right...

Carol always wanted to go on a Pokémon journey of her own, but aaaaah life happened and she was middle aged living a happy comfortable life- a bit with an unfulfilled dream.

Until one day her husband was killed by a magma grunt who stole the meteorite he was studying.

She was lost and unsure what to do until- a duskull appeared in her house and scared the be jeebers out of her! A Spector of death! And then it…put itself in a poke ball??

She dubbed the little Duskull Jeepers Creepers and set out on her adventure!

Doodle Dump: Misc. Edition

Time for misc. doodles~

1: "Ikigusare Idols". Like many people, "Injection Girl" randomly appeared in my Youtube feed, and I was admittedly charmed by them. It's like they're from a bygone era, but they just put out another music video last month. Currently, my favorite song is "スーパーZ指定ガール". (Content warning for mass violence in the lyrics.)

2-4: "Clown Doll Redesign". So, since I've started doll customizing as a hobby, I tend to lurk on the Dolls and CustomDolls subreddits on the lookout for inspo and info. Not too long ago, someone posted asking for advice/critique on their doll ideas. So I sketched these (and some notes on the original design, which are not included here) as a response. In the end, I never did reply because I don't actually have a reddit account, and I thought it would be weird to make one solely to criticize someone, so I'm just posting them here.

My main critiques were that there wasn't a lot of contrast in their color choices and that the blue and red hair seemed random when the rest of the design was pink/green. So, my main goal was to increase the contrast between the pink and green, so the different patterns would stick out more and to unify the pallet a bit more. The skintones differ from the reference because the doll they said they were going to use was a G3 Frankie Stein, who has bluish skin and a prosthetic left leg, so I'm not really sure why their sketch uses the original green skin or why the silver leg is on the wrong side, but it is what it is.

The first 2 are straight pallet swaps, but the 3rd is based on a second design that the OP made. They originally asked for users to pick between the two. Most people said they preferred the blue and yellow design because it was more cohesive, but the OP replied that they really wanted to make the pink and green one work somehow, so that's why I focused on using that one as the base, but I still included a version with the alternate pallet and patterns.

5-8: "Music Junkie Soundwave". In a similar vein, there was another user on the subreddit that wanted opinions on a potential Transformers fashion doll line, citing a video that one of their friends made on the idea.

Now despite having a limited knowledge of Transformers, and I'm still pretty green to the fashion doll world, I wrote a whole-ass dissertation on the idea because magical girl/boy robot dolls are totally something I'd be into.

But, for a similar reason to the clown doll, I didn't want to make a reddit account just to critique someone (though I still have the original response in my drafts).

When I finished writing that response, I decided to sketch how I would go about the idea as it'd been proposed, and created this Soundwave doll idea. Admittedly, he's very inspired by Giacomo from Pokemon Scarlet/Violet (never played it, but I do like some of the character designs in it). I dunno if the overalls are a little dorky, but I couldn't think of another way to represent his chest-deck in a meaningful way.

9-10: "Kingsley and Mamuta". I tried to make some human? designs for them, but it's not going great. I really wanted Mamuta to still be monstrous, but designs like that aren't my strong-suit... Kingsley I'm just not satisfied with yet.

11: "OC Line-Up". Just a few OCs of mine. From left to right: Carol, The Prince Formerly Known As Frog, Shapeshifter, and Fizz.

12: "Rival". An idea for a rival to Kun3h0, ala Shadow the Hedgehog and Wario. I made another sketch recently that goes in a very different direction, but I kinda want to finish that so I haven't included it in this dump.
