Morale is so low as we go into finals next week. I have a remediation today I am studying for, but I knocked out two assignments this morning! Pretty much at the point where all I have to do is study and I do NOT want to.

today i was up early for a lab practical exam but that is the only class i had for the day. i’m spending the rest of the day doing asynchronous lectures on type 2 diabetes, working on a discussion on PAS vs euthanasia, and beginning research for my public policy final paper.

I just finished my sterile compounding exam. 40 questions, and we were given 110 minutes to complete it.
Can you tell me why there are people finishing in 23 minutes and less? That tells me they hardly read the questions much less the answer choices …because many of these questions and answer choices were pretty wordy. There were also pictures on some questions that we had to look at in order to pick the right answer.
I finished in little over an hour with half the class still taking the exam. So I know it wasn’t no short exam.
No surprise it’s the same people I heard has been getting the exam banks for almost every exam since P2 year. (And I know they do get it because I’ve seen it but I can’t say anything because they have too much power. They’re literally on our class E-board and hold positions in many of the student organizations. And yes I hold a position in one of these organizations so there’s a lot at stake if I do say something 🥲)
I’m working my ass off on top of everything else that’s going on in my life, only to end up with average or less, while they’re cheating and getting the best grades and getting awards. Then I’m the one that gets looked down on and probably won’t even be considered when applying for residency.
I’m tired of this shit 😮‍💨

My friend just finished her last round of interviews for pharmacy school here in the U.S. Most of the interviews were exactly how one would expect pharmacy school interviews to go (What are your ambitions as a pharmacist? Why are you interested in this school/career/etc. What makes you think you'd be a good pharmacist).
In her final interview, they asked, "What would you do as a pharmacist to reduce your impact on the environment." She answered that pharmacists use a lot of single-use plastics and she'd love to find a more sustainable replacement. The interviewer blinked at her and then asked, rather petulantly, "Why didn't you talk about global warming?" She mumbled something about single-use plastics and how they actually connected to global climate change, but in her head, she said that what she was thinking was, "Sir, I am applying to pharmacy school"
Now whenever the subject of global climate change comes up, we all scoff dismissively and remark, "Don't worry; the pharmacists are handling it."
We may need a T-shirt

How to be a US Pharmacist if you’re a Philippine Registered Pharmacist.
Tumblr media
(Overview of the process ⬆️)
Maraming nagtatanong sa page ko kung paano daw maging US Pharmacist as a Filipino Pharmacist. Kaya, I'll just create a one big post about it. Oo nga pala, it's really hard to get a work visa/sponsorship from the US kung foreign pharmacist ka.
So, kung wala kang way na makapunta ng US to legally work (like a petition, etc) it'll be difficult (Unlike sa mga nurses). I'm no visa expert and won't be able to answer any at all.
but if you're already in the US (as a citizen/permanent resident) and you have a BS Pharmacy degree from the Philippines, here's for you!
First, let's talk about qualifications:
1. You have to be a licensed pharmacist in your home country first. kailangan, board passer ka muna sa Philippines. HINDI REQUIRED ang ANY work experience to qualify for the exam.
2. Your education should be a MINIMUM of 5- years if you graduated after Jan 1, 2003. Kapag 4 years lang natapos, you'll have to go back to school for another year (CLINICAL PHARMACY) or PharmD (plus 2 years). NO EXCEPTIONS. again, di naman mandatory ang pharmD. Okay na yung clinical pharmacy. Also, Not MS/PhD kasi i-evaluate siya case by case and hindi guaranteed to qualify.
Pero kung grumaduate ka before ng Jan 1, 2003, you can take the exam with a 4-year degree as long as you passed the other requirements like TOEFL, good standing w/ your license sa PH, etc.
After meeting the education requirements, no need to study again in the US.
For me, I graduated sa CEU-Manila noong 2015. Kulang yung 4- years na degree ko kaya I went back to school noong 2020-2021 (Clinical pharmacy). I'll link below my experience a full-time student sa Philippines while also working full-time in Texas.
Let's talk about the exams you need to take:
1. TOEFL (ENGLISH TEST) - there are minimum scores you need to achieve. Kahit offered ang TOEFL sa Philippines, it's only acceptable by the US kapag tinake mo siya mismo sa US territories or parts of Canada. You can take this exam with a US tourist visa. TOEFL ha, not IELTS. You can take this anytime kasi 2 years naman ang validity niya.
2. FPGEE (Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Exam). Itong exam na ito ay para sa mga Pharmacists educated outside of the USA. Kahit sa Philippines ka grumaduate, or UK, or Canada, Australia, SAME EXAM for EVERYONE. You need to pass this exam in order for you to INTERN sa desired state mo. This exam is usually administered ONCE A YEAR DURING FALL. You can take this exam with a tourist visa. Btw, it is important to say na kahit na qualified ka na to take the FPGEE, it doesn't guarantee your US tourist visa acceptance. kaya plan accordingly.
question about how to apply? please join the PH FPGEE support group. I already posted the detailed instructions on how to file your application. here's the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/filipinofpgeesupport/
Next step is INTERNSHIP. Once you passed TOEFL and FPGEE you're given an FPGEC certification which is a requirement for foreign pharmacists to start Internship! With internship, US tourist visa is not allowed anymore. You need to have a work visa na. Yung required hours ay depende sa state kung saan ka mag-wwork. Example sa California ay 1500 hours. Sa Texas ay 1740 hours. CHECK your RESPECTIVE state's Board of Pharmacy.
3. NAPLEX (North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination). Ito pa lang mismo ang US Pharmacy Boards. I've shared to you my experience when I took it. Ito yung exam na tinatake ng mga FPGEE passers after internship and PharmD graduates ng US. Please see my posts about sa details ng exam and my experiences. I'll link them below.
4. The last exam is MPJE/CPJE. Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination® aka the LAW EXAM. Kahit naipasa mo yung NAPLEX pero hindi yung MPJE, you won't be able to practice as a US Pharmacist. This is a very tricky exam and it should not be taken lightly.
after you take these exams + Internships, you're now a US Pharmacists!! Good luck everyone and I encourage you to read the official BULLETINS only from the NABP site. Sila lang ang naglalabas ng official requirements and wag maniwala sa mga sabi-sabi.
If you have any questions except VISA, feel free to message me as I have taken all the exams na. I'm here to help yo Pero before you ask anything, please read this "frequently asked questions": https://theilustrado.com/faqforcc Any repeating questions won't be answered kasi nakalagay naman na diyan. 🙂

trying to make today positive and productive!
I already:
went to class
took out the trash
exercised
meditated
I’ve been trying to break up my to do lists based on a self-help book I read into different categories to help with prioritizing.
Important & Urgent:
APPE application
study for OSCEs
Get organized for my executive board meeting tomorrow
Important, not urgent:
read
clean out dresser
shower
Urgent, not important (at this moment, all due in the next 2-3 weeks):
presentation
paper
assignment
Another goal I have for today is to work on sleep hygiene since I’m having insomnia, no naps and no caffeine after 3 pm!

hi!!
i live in the uk and have just applied to study pharmacy (mPharm), starting next year. I'm quite excited about it but still am not sure if I'm making the right choice, particularly because I've struggled quite a bit with chemistry and also am really passionate about some other subjects too like english and film. how did you find the experience of studying pharmacy? what's your favourite part of the job so far? is it something you would recommend in terms of being worth the effort and time?
tysm :) <3
Hello!!!! I am so sorry that this has gone unanswered for so long, it’s been a hell of a few months!
I’m glad you’re excited for it!! It is completely natural to have doubts though, I remember in sixth form all of us had doubts after seeing what our friends were applying for and how passionate they seemed about their subjects. Then we realised we all thought that each other is super passionate and it was just some classic imposter syndrome!
I really enjoy studying pharmacy! Even now, I’m doing a postgrad and it’s a huge pain but I’m enjoying the learning itself. Pharmacy degrees are quite unusual in that it starts off super sciencey, so like my entire first year was science - however there was a lot of overlap with A level chemistry so it wasn’t too intense, and then gradually it increased in how hard it was. I did find all the lecturers were really supportive though! As the years went on, it became less science focused and more clinical, which I enjoyed a lot more as it’s the more day to day pharmacy.
In terms of the job, I work in the hospital. I’ve only ever done hospital pharmacy since leaving uni, so can’t comment on other sectors such as community or industry. Generally, I like it. Our pay is good (in my opinion), we’re struggling with lack of staff at the moment- but where isn’t? And I do enjoy making a difference to patients. The best part of my job is by far when I talk to patients and help them get the best out of their medicines, or when I make good interventions like switching someone to liquids to go down their feeding tube. I’m currently working in palliative care and it’s so lovely to see the impact that you can have on patients, and my hospice team really value having pharmacy input. The worst part is by far the staffing levels and not having enough time to do the job I want to do- although where I am is 5 years away from you now and I am very hopeful that things will be improving by then (or that the nhs will have collapsed and we will be living in a dystopian nightmare - in which case they’ll still need medicines so is a solid career choice!) all jokes aside, for me I would say it is worth the effort. I get paid well, I generally enjoy my job, and I like having a defined career path planned out. It is certainly hard work, and doing my postgrad now is genuinely painful, but it’s a good career!
Also. If you get to pharmacy school and think oh no I hate this, that’s fine!!!! You can absolutely see what you think, and change subjects. You can take the rest of the year out and switch after, there is absolutely no race to get to where you want and there is no shame in not knowing what you want and trying things out. I moved jobs after pre-reg which turned out to be a big mistake, and moved again after a year which has put me a year behind all my friends in my postgrad. But it doesn’t matter? It’s taken me so long to realise this but you can do things at whatever pace you want, and I am happy now after making that second move even though it put me a ‘year behind’. If you want to see how you get on in pharmacy school, and then want to change to English, that is TOTALLY fine. At the end of the day, as long as you are studying something you love, that’s what matters and it doesn’t matter how long it takes to get there 🫶🏻
Hope this helped, any more questions about anything please let me know!! And once again I am sorry for not replying sooner, it’s been a really busy few months with 3 different courses having deadlines!
