one thing that so many students forget is that, a win is a win. if you planned on doing english homework but instead you finished your history essay, celebrate that, don’t be upset taht you didn’t sick to your plan, at least you got SOMETHING DONE. a win is a fucking win and don’t let anyone tell you different.

“Female staffers adopted a meeting strategy they called “amplification”: When a woman made a key point, other women would repeat it, giving credit to its author. This forced the men in the room to recognize the contribution — and denied them the chance to claim the idea as their own. “We just started doing it, and made a purpose of doing it. It was an everyday thing,” said one former Obama aide who requested anonymity to speak frankly. Obama noticed, she and others said, and began calling more often on women and junior aides.”
Here’s How Obama’s Female Staffers Made Their Voices Heard (via styro)
If you’re wondering what amplification looks like it really is as simple as listening to a person’s point and then saying “Yes I really agree with (this person’s name) that (the point they made) and I think that (build on point)”
So for example, “Yes I agree with the female staffers that amplification is an effective process and I’ve seen great results from similar techniques used by my own colleagues”
Support, Credit, Reinforce. It’s simple and effective and it really does work.

Medblr, I think we ought to have an antibiotics bracket. Just for fun. Everyone can submit their favorite antibiotic regimens and write propaganda for them (or anti-propaganda for the ones you hate) before we crown the one true antibiotic (regimen). Doesn’t have to be a single medication, it can be a combo. Here’s some of what I’m thinking of including:
vanc/zosyn
Azithromycin
Amp/gent
Rifampin/isoniazid/pyrazinamide/ethambutol
Augmentin
Cephalexin
Vanc/ceftriaxone
Amphotericin
Nitrofurantoin
Vote however you want—what you prescribe most, best side effect profile, most interesting mechanism, vibes, whatever. Let me know what other antibiotics you think I should include!

Took me until about halfway through college before I realized “study” means “play with the material in a variety of ways until you understand it” and not just “read the assigned chapters and do the homework” and I think that probably should have been discussed at some point prior to that.

1/13/24 Saturday
Finally had my last trial today. It was moved to zoom because of the snow storm which I was fine with, EXCEPT MY ZOOM WOULDNT LET ME SHARE THE RIGHT EXHIBITS!!!!! Idk why zoom tried to sabotage me, but I’m a trial god and I moved along unbothered. My partner and I didn’t win which was expected because our murder case was built on circumstantial evidence so no one ever wins this mock case. It’s also hard to get a bunch of 1Ls we forced to be our jurors to pay attention to a 4 hour trial over zoom, oh well. Our judge was so sweet and she said we did very well and wants us to join the mock trial team she runs at our school so l think I’m going to email her about it.
Now that I’m free I can finally finish reading Remain Nameless and start Ruthless Vows before I see spoilers. I need to know what happens to my man Roman Kitt.
My eyes are bloodshot and feel like they’ve been soaked in chlorine after this week, thank god it’s over.

These days, my desk at home has been my favorite study spot. Campus gets crazy crowded during exam season, and considering it's freezing outside I have quicker access to a cup of tea 🍵

☔ 17.01.2024 // I went to 4 lectures about the history of the pharmacy (it's each Wednesday). It was raining all day long, not that I don't like the rain - actually I find it beautiful - but it softened the muddy ground and I don't like that ahah
The lectures were :
The history of the pharmaceutical forms : we learned about the different pharmaceutical forms throughout history in France, including some typical forms that don't exist anymore nowadays.
The history of the apothecaries in Europe : it was the evolution of pharmacy in England, Spain, Germany, Italy. They were really different from each other because of the history of the country!
The different pharmacopeias around the world : I might concede that this lecture was a bit boring as it was just a list of all the books/papyrus considered as pharmacopoeia ahah. I managed to take notes of the whole lecture but it was hard as I was falling asleep ahah
The evolution of the contenants of drugs throughout history : it was... great ig? The drawings on the contenants were pretty and the professor described the different pattern with their name so it was okay, it was still only a list of contenants 😭

If there’s one thing I feel I can unambiguously brag about, it’s that I’m great with patients who are in pain crises. I’m tenacious and stubborn about lowering 10/10 pain to something more manageable. I got a patient in “25 out of 10” pain at start of shift down to a 4 by midnight and it only took opioids, Tylenol, muscle relaxants, ice packs, warm blankets, fresh coffee, repositioning, an abdominal binder I scrounged up, a phone call to the surgeon to get lidocaine patches ordered, and some serious chit chatting with the patient while we waited for all that to kick in. We didn’t end up needing IV medication, we didn’t have to increase opioids, we didn’t need to add any medication that would potentially delay discharge, and the majority of what I did is all stuff she can also do at home so it’s a sustainable pain management plan. This is my absolute favorite thing with nursing, I love love love managing pain, I know I talk about it a lot but it’s the most satisfying thing in the world. I love watching someone emerge from a horrendous haze of pain until they feel like a person again. Also I’m scheduling this to post well after my shift is done so that I don’t jinx anything, also while I was writing this post I had to take a quick break for two hours half way through because someone started having a seizure. My job is wild. I used to be a barista.

even if you love being at home and you don't like going outside and you just want to spend all your time at home (which is totally ok!) it's still healthy to leave the house every once in a while if you can.
if you go outside, it means you get to do this thing called "going home" at the end of the trip, which is pretty neat. you don't get to "go home" if you're always home already.
going home is good for you and it's good for your home. it gives your home a chance to do its job, which is to welcome you back into safety and privacy after an adventure in the outside world. you get to shut out all of the other parts of your life that shouldn't be intruding on your personal time.
if your entire life happens inside your home, you're bringing all that stuff inside with you, you don't get to physically shut out stressors, and you never get to experience the relief of leaving your busy day behind as you shut the front door behind you.
this is part of why mental health walks, going to the grocery store, or sitting on your porch are good for you. it's not so much what you do when you're outside that matters, but the being away from home and then coming back to it. going outside improves your quality of life and it makes being at home much more comfortable.
