Brought mum to Gochi-So Shokudo (ごち惣食堂) located at the north wing of Northpoint City on the second floor. While mum is kind of reluctant in going for new stuffs, I on the other hand enjoyed the new experiences. As it was our first time here, I asked for printed menu rather than using the digital menu so mum would be able to flip through to see what fancy her.
Mum got the Chicken Katsu (S$16.50++) set which came with a panko coated chicken fillet deep-fried to golden brown colour. Also on the tray is a bowl of fluffy white rice, fresh cabbage salad with sesame sauce, miso soup and sesame seeds. While she enjoyed her crispy chicken, she ended up giving me the bowl of salad as she doesn’t like raw vegetable.
I went for the Iberico Tenderloin Katsu (S$18.50++) with the same rice, salad and soup set. I was left wondering what I should do with the pestle & bowl of black & white sesame seeds as the wait staff neglected to inform us. My tenderloin came in two patties and in minced meat form, not exactly what I had envisioned. The pork was well marinated and juicy with a crispy shell of bread crumbles surrounding them. I might just come back for the other dishes provided mum agrees to tag along.
long-term magic exposure eventually killed his melanin production, resulting albinism. said magic exposure also caused his prosthetic to get a little.. weird
I bought a motar and pestle last week and finally used it last night (and for the first time ever) to crush some eggshells I saved for my compost.
Im not quite sure what mineral the tools are made from, but they feel and sound similar to granite. Regardless, the composite material of both the pestle and motar helped me get the job done is such little time it suprised me! I was able to grind up egg shells into a fine sediment in a span of a few minutes, when I thought it would take a bit longer.
(What a dynamic photo here #nofilter lol. How's that for bad lighting?)
I later sprinkled the shell-powder into one of my larger compost bins and washed the tools with soap and water at my kitchen sink.
I'll have to reasearch how to best clean a mineral-based motar and pestle bc I can imagine not all cleaning and sanitizing methods are compatible with the material (I'm thinking about corrosive effects of soaps or lemon juice, for instance). But what I did last night seemed to be okay. I just worry about sanitizing it bc (🥁) the motar and pestle has many great recipe applications in the kitchen!
This article goes into a little bit of history and some applications of the tool (with affiliate links and lots of ads ofc lmao. Just "continue without disabling" ur adblocker). But its useful enough with many relevant pictures to get more of a grounded understanding of what this tool is, where it came from in human history, and how it's used around the world today. Also comes with some handy tips and dish ideas.
I learned from this article that you can make fresh salsas, marinades, and chunky hummus with a motar and pestle and thats exciting to me! The process of cooking is becoming something I enjoy a lot. So its nice to know I have options to not only make my own meals instead of buying a processed mix from a big box grocer (support small business, eat organic and local!), but to see how food comes together by making it myself in traditional ways. I await the day I can make homemade salsa the way I like while impressing my friends and family with homemade marinades for yummy baked chicken dishes.
While the Spice Trader mainly excels in ranged combat using her pepper mill cannon, she always keeps her trusty pestle on hand to pummel baddies when she finds herself thrown into close-culinary combat.
Given her puny 10-year old arms, it isn't the most effective tool in her arsenal, but swinging a blunt piece of stone into some shins is still a reliable way to give herself some breathing room (also she lost the matching mortar, so it isn't good for much else).

Just a simple doodle of the Spice Trader I sorta forgot about; I'm pretty sure I meant to put this in the ref sheet I did for her a long while back, but never did cause I didn't know where to fit it (that or I was just lazy).
I thought it was really cute though, so I decided to make it presentable and upload it on its own.
(Also kinda feeling a bit depressed/unmotivated as of late; not super motivated to draw so I figured I could at least touch up/revisit some unfinished stuff that's been sitting in my folders).
