#personal budgeting
So… I’m a young adult (20s) with inattentive ADHD and other mental health issues who will be moving out for college next month
I have done a 3.5 year vocational training (so I’m qualified to work as a professional handyperson) and I do have savings
But I do not have the slightest idea how to budget household money
I got a student loan of 450€/mo and my parents said they will give me 200€/month for groceries/ food
I DO NOT intend to start a part-time job until at least my 3rd semester! I have been out of school too long and need to focus so I don’t fuck up college
So my starting budget is 650€/month from which I have to pay
rent & utilities,
insurances (household, liability, casualty, some private health insurances),
groceries,
Plus a small amount each month I need to put aside in case I have to buy additional books, stationary, new everyday-shoes or generally in case I have to replace stuff that gets broken/ used up
Can anyone help me how to keep track of my finances and how to budget when I barely have enough money to cover overheads/ necessities?
Honestly I feel genuinely bad asking for help, especially since I know I have more savings to my name than many people my age probably have. But also, my parents never budgeted – at least not in a way they can teach me how to
And I’m just so scared of college as a whole and of messing up and that I won’t be able to keep up with studying… I got in, yes, but I also know I haven’t done the necessary math in YEARS because my vocational training focused on mechanics and transmissions and forces. I’m a state-certified mechanic and my college degree is mechanical engineering but I doubt my “advantage” is worth much. I’m sincerely worried. And I haven’t been able to study on my own – although I have more than enough pre-college math books specifically for the pre-courses – because of stress and anxiety around finding a flat-share/ living accommodations. I have been procrastinating most things because finding a flat-share hasn’t been exactly successful and I’m trying to ignore my looming dread and anxiety. I’m genuinely scared I will mess up and ruin my entire life because I’m not “ready” or intelligent or mentally healthy enough to make it.
If I at least got the budgeting out of the way, so to speak, that would help convince myself I’m not as much of a fuck-up.

Bisan is calling for another global strike!
I saw some posts just outlining Jan 21st, and wanted to clarify that Bisan has called for a full seven days of action.
What a global strike would look like is:
calling in sick to work
purchasing bare essentials ahead of the week so you can observe the general boycott of goods / buying as little as you genuinely can
putting in a concerted effort to elevate Palestinian voices and make it clear that this strike is in support of a permanent ceasefire!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For those who will have to purchase necessary goods during this time, please observe the brands that the BDS movement is asking us to boycott!

♢♢♢
Right now is also a good time to mention some better uses for your money during this week.
Available e-sims in Gaza are running low!!
Mirna El Helbawi and her team are working round the clock to continue to connect Palestinians as Israel does its best to cut them off from the rest of the world.
You can learn how to purchase and send e-sims here, and below you’ll find a list of what is currently needed (the areas in brackets indicate what region you should select to buy e-sims in).

CareforGaza is an organisation that does verifiably good work, distributing supplies directly to Palestinian families.
They have a Gofundme set up at the moment, but because of Gofundme’s poor track record regarding refusing to transfer funds to Palestinians, I’d recommend continuing to donate directly to their PayPal here.

Good luck to all of you. Don't turn away from Palestine!

people seriously pretending EEAAO is overrated suddenly bc it swept awards? it swept awards largely because it is very very very good. I cried like someone who's just had a religious revelation BOTH times I watched it bc it touched something raw and real and beautiful but it was also just very, very funny. everyone's performance kills and the concept is creative and interesting and doesn't distract from the emotional core. you guys are just contrarian.

Consumers spend $133 more monthly on subscriptions than they realize
Consumers spend $133 more monthly on subscriptions than they realize
Jose Luis Pelaez Inc | DigitalVision | Getty Images There’s a decent chance you don’t have a good handle on how much your subscriptions are really costing you. Consumers’ offhand guess of how much they spend monthly on subscriptions averaged $86, according to a survey commissioned by market research firm C+R Research. Yet when asked about subscriptions in specific categories, the actual amount…

Thanks to all my patrons for supporting me!
Turns out when you actually do your own research and writing [AHEM!] it takes time to make good content. These awesome names and plenty of generous people like them help make that happen. Their pledges give me the time to research the show PROPERLY and also go towards paying the crew, who make the show look spectacular.
If you can, and you wanna support what I do, sign up and join them :)

I'm going to be honest, I always struggle with the initial introduction of a blog. I've had several over my life thus far (I mean, who hasn't?) but the first post always feels a touch intimidating. What do I say about myself that would make people actually want to read the thoughts I hurl out into the internet? No idea.
I like horror movie monsters.
I also like those little hopping birds you see in parking lots that steal discarded french fries.
I have two kids, one dog, and a husband who are all amazing.
I'm also struggling financially. Of course, being a millennial, I guess that's a guarantee.
I was told to go to college if I wanted to make it in the world. As soon as I graduated high school, the market crashed. Then I graduated college and the market crashed again. Then my husband and I recovered financially and began looking for a house to grow our family before I became pregnant with our second child. And the pandemic hit. And we lost our jobs. And insurance (American). We have just started getting back on our feet but the market looks like it's crashing once more.
I read somewhere that around 60% of Americans have less than a thousand dollars in their savings account. We can count ourselves among that statistic. Given we have two children, that's absolutely terrifying to me. The knowledge we are one big emergency away from not being able to recover is a weight that leaves me feeling sick on the best of days.
(Wow, almost every paragraph thus far has started with 'I.' Then again, this is an introduction post.)
Like I said before, I've had several blogs over the years but I've never used tumblr to discuss budgeting. Tumblr doesn't seem the place to vent about personal finances--more of a hobby site--but this may be fun.
Or maybe this will be my last post? Who knows. No idea.

kim is such a funny little guy like he emphasizes how little the rcm salary is when you ask about it (5500 reál annually- 460/mo) but here he is with his nice electronic sports watch and his little instant camera and his fancy revolutionary cosplay for plainclothes and he's living in the GRIH which can't be cheap and he's got his fancy little mnemotechnique notebooks which are like the moleskine of elysium i guess and his fancy little ballpoints that he does NOT want to share with you which i bet is because they cost him like a week of salary. and this is the rcm he's not getting stipends for supplies or watches or housing or probably even the gas for the kineema. poor as fuck but he is going to buy himself his little treats god damn it. if he lived in our world you know he'd be out getting himself a $9 vanilla soy milk half caf dirty chai iced latte every morning on the way to the station and eating instant noodles every night to claw out room in the budget for it

I feel like if you started a crowd fund or a patreon you would be out of debt pretty quick my friend, lots of people love you
i have previously posted about how i have a ko-fi (with monthly subscription options like patreon (no rewards for now as there isn't really anything i could think of for that with what i do rn (probably in the future tho))), i sometimes post about the debt as well, but it's just hard to get out of when monthly income can't quite cover things long enough to not drop back into debt at which point it just grows again

student council au where wei wuxian ran "as a joke" but won president with lan wangji as his vice president and their shenanigans as wwx uses a sizeable amount of their budget for carnivals and student events and lwj just...lets him
his uncle, the principal, asks him what on earth are you doing and lwj just takes out a research paper that shows the benefits of fun and relaxing activities on student mental health while wwx is shooting a t-shirt canon at the crowd behind them
there's a sofa in the student lounge that wwx uses to take naps and everytime he does his shirt rides up revealing a sliver of skin and lwj has one hand in a tight horny grip as he calculates how much of their budget they can devote to a bunny petting zoo even though the insurance will be a nightmare but wwx really wants one so he will get one.
(at the petting zoo, wwx tells him the bunny petting zoo was a birthday gift for him)
(lwj kisses his big stupid perfect little face)

sup do ya have a ranking for your husbands and wives
the exact rankings are prone to change but you get the broad strokes. also separate lists bc the guys would get absolutely decimated if they were lumped together and i don't think my awful husbands deserve that kind of negativity.
wives:
5) grell sutcliff of black butler fame. i think about her at least once a day. particularly her monologue from the atlantic arc. it did things to me.
4) childe
3) mrs. yor forger my beloved,, i know i don't talk about her a lot but i am constant kicking my feet and giggling whenever she's on screen,,, if loid was not also a yor stan i would hate him with an unspeakable passion
2) ganyu <3 <3 <3 i'm so sorry to have betrayed her this way but she is still very dear to me T-T
1) FURINA FURINA FURINA FURINA F̵̛̘̔̀̽̌̒̔͐͗̈́̏̈͠Ȕ̶̡̧̡̦͎̖̬͇̜̠̹̼̂̃͗͛̎̉̈̐͒̏̔̉͊̏R̶͍̥̱̂͑̒Į̸̧̢̢̨͔͕̝̖̺̱̼͓̅͌N̷̥͇̹̺̟̮̠̩̹̮̊͒͂̊̃̒͛͊̋̈́̈͆͝A̵̻̹͍̪͍̺͍̩̮̤̩̗̿̀͐̈̾͜
husbands:
5) gojo (*a crowd boos somewhere in the distance*). this wasn't supposed to happen but he's just SO annoying and SO pretty and i want to put him in a blender. sigh.
4) that one medicine vendor from mononoke. our time together was brief but he truly has such a stranglehold on my daily life it's actually sickening.
3) baizhubaizhubaizhubaizhu <3 <3 <3 <3 i honestly didn't like him that much when he first game out, but his story quest and his crop top won me over. medical malpractice once again reigns supreme.
2) illumi my beloved <3 <3 he gets points for having the sluttiest waist i've ever seen but loses them bc i think he'd kill me without hesitation but gains them back bc he seems especially breedable.
1) MR. BABYGIRL SUPREME GETO SUGURU HIMSELF!!! what can i say. he fathered so hard he mothered and i love a man with a creative outlet (or a cult, whatever). sorry about all the murders ig. god forbid a woman do anything in this world.

i live in a walkable ish city, for the first time in my life
i just paid $7.50 for a coffee
the price of coffee has gone up has increased so much over the years (bc of inflation i don’t even think this was a particularly expensive coffee), and it would be easy to just make it at home for a fraction of the cost…
But also… for $7.50 (which is a lot of money when you are disabled level broke) I was able to:
- Leave my house
- Get 15 ish minutes of feel good movement, walking and learning to navigate my local area
- Engage with 3-4 community members, not even trying to socialize, just ones i’ll likely bump into the times i go out; thus helping to establish my place in an unfamiliar environment
- Achieve the sense of fulfillment that comes with independently carrying out a desire, engaging with the world, and feeling autonomous and capable
I don’t even like coffee. This was not about the coffee.
i could have also walked to the grocery store and spent $1 on a bagel, and checked likely all the same boxes. today i just chose to try a coffee shop, but as a broke person i have to over analyze the cost of things, which led me to philosophizing over this in a way i wouldn’t have had to if it was only $1..
which led me to the conclusion, as always, that you cannot budget your way out of systemic poverty, and you’re not a bad poor person for spending a couple extra dollars on something premade from a cafe
