I've been chewing on what fears the bg3 characters would be because I do that with almost every piece of media I like now.

Gale is the Beholding (hubris, pursuit of knowledge above all else, his ex can literally see everything he does in/with the Weave). You could make an argument for Desolation b/c of the orb but I think that's secondary. Wyll is the Hunt imo, but the Desolation works for him too- I think his situation is similar to that Hunter we meet whose name I'm forgetting, whose inciting incident has to do with the Dark. I thought the same thing about Karlach but I think she's Desolation instead of Hunt, both aesthetically and because she was actively betrayed and is, you know, dying. Shadowheart is the Dark. Halsin could honestly be the Lonely: he's pretty isolated from the people around him emotionally. An island unto himself etc etc. Lae'zel is the End imo. You'd think she'd be Hunt but End fits into Vlaakith's whole deal (victim of the End, avatar of the Hunt?). Astarion could be either the Buried (since that covers abuse as well, he was literally kept underground/out of the sunlight, etc etc) or the Hunt. I'm a bit undecided there. I don't know enough about Minthara to make a call on her and I don't want to just say Web because of Lolth. Slaughter, maybe? Since that fear covers war. Jaheira and Minsc are Hunt too, I think (there's a lot of Hunt but that comes with the territory when you're adventuring).

Gortash is Web and you cannot convince me otherwise. I think Orin is Slaughter but, honestly, Durge seems more associated with the Extinction to me because of Bhaal's end goal. The Desolation and the Lonely tag-teamed Ketheric's ass but he's an avatar of the End. Dame Aylin is an avatar of the Hunt, victim of the Dark, and Isobel is an avatar of the End a la the main End avatar we see (Oliver? I really need to re-listen...)

There's obviously a lot of overlap and bleed because there always is. I've been wanting to make art based off of this but it's not happening anytime soon so I figured I'd shout about it into the void a bit lol

hello! yes! i'll be honest talking about things like this always make me a little nervous, and i feel obligated to preface anything i say with a disclaimer that none of it really matters, nothing i say matters, and you should do what you like, because--who cares. i am not an authority on--anything, frankly. my opinion holds no more weight than the next guy's, and all i'm doing here is giving it, so. essentially what im saying is--people are perfectly entitled to disagree with me, but people are not entitled to be mean to me about it xx

having said that. it is my personal opinion that s x barty is one of the worst fucking things i have ever heard lol. who even is barty who is that guy. why would s be interested in him at all. i do not understand it it does not make sense to me. from where are we sourcing the character traits and personality that we are giving barty that would ever endear sirius to him, because it objectively cannot be canon.

overall i do not get the new interest in barty + evan + pandora (+ regulus, but we won't go there)...at all, other than guessing that people were bored with the marauders and wanted a new version of them (and new celebrities to fancast) while simultaneously changing next to nothing about them other than superimposing them onto the first slytherin side characters they could rustle up. i expect ive become a bit of a broken record in regards to my dislike of the popular meow-meow-ification + complete absolution of regulus as a character in order to make him a loveable oc (just as i think erasing all the negative traits that r/s have in order to make them more likeable is just as boring), and all of that applies to those other guys as well (with the slight difference that they are, somehow, even less interesting and significant than regulus in canon), so i won't get into that too much. but i think what you say about having no emotional connection to any of it is exactly right lol--it is a sort of shift? i guess? in the fandom that is simply of no interest to me. they are characters that i just have no emotional investment in and admittedly struggle a little to understand why other people do. i am emotionally invested in, like, five characters overall (and even out of those--there's only two i'm really here for innit xx) and i personally cannot extend that investment to a creepy little side character who is mentioned maybe twice in the entire series.

I don't really have a final conclusion for this, I've just been thinking recently that I appreciate the effort Shannon made to say its okay to learn differently than others and have unique needs, however Exillium being the medium through which that message is conveyed in Unlocked falls short (at least for me) because...that's also the punishment school. Having different educational needs and being sent to a different school--not to mention one that's not even part of formal society and is literally in the wild--for poor behavior/choices are two very different things, but they've been lumped together.

Yes, it's entirely okay to learn differently and have unique needs, but that's not why kids get sent to Exillium. It's not a school to help accommodate their learning. Kids are, from what we've seen, sent almost always because they've caused problems and are deemed unfit for the typical schools. Disruptive, problematic, criminal, lesser, etc. So also having it be the alternative learning school kind of implies a correlation between having different needs and making poor choices/having problem behavior. Like none of these students "learn differently" (that we've been told at least) they caused problems (intentional or not) that people didn't want to deal with. Maybe this isn't representative of all Exillium students, but it's all we've seen so far that I can recall.

And yes Exillium is improving and did have a positive initial intention, but as it is right now I find myself (personally, these are my feelings) uncomfortable at it being used to say its okay to learn differently. Because it doesn't feel like it follows through on that message. Having the school where kids with criminal behavior are sent out of sight separate from the rest of society being the school for alternate learning styles just doesn't sit quite right.

And yes, some of the kids sent there were just labeled disruptive/problematic and they didn't actually do anything wrong but be themselves, but their being fucked over by the system doesn't change that that is how the system works.

I'm not really going anywhere with this and it's difficult to articulate (I'm sure I've missed a few clarifying points because I keep debating with myself back and forth) because I do think Shannon meant well, I'm not an expert, and there are always arguments to be made to the contrary (like I said, I've been debating with myself). It's just something I've been thinking about because I always feel icky reading that part of Linh's Exillium commentary, but maybe I'm making a problem out of nothing.

Final meteor's question, what would have happened to Vanessa if she was wearing the Vanny suit at the time a wave hit?

Would it fuse with her turning her into an anthropomorphic rabbit or would it remain a costume?

Nothing would happen.

In a Vanny situation, it would make whatever she's using blip out like any other electronic. This would include the mask if it's like the one Cassie has that lets her melt through the walls, and would allow the animatronics to see her. The only exception would be Roxy since she can already see her.

At best, it could maybe give Vanessa a few moments of control, and some momentary peace and quiet if she's already in control.

Otherwise? Yeah nothing different would happen. It'd still be a costume, Vanny would still be a problem and the other animatronics would maybe catch a glimpse of her and finally know what Roxy was on about before she was Glitchtrapped. The blips and momentary control/peace could, with really lucky timing, grant an opportunity to whoever Vanny/Glitch is trying to kill to escape, but yeah... that's about it.

Not the most exciting outcome here, huh? Yeah that sounds like a hell of a concept though damn... don't say that one too loud or the FNaF authors will hear you and either make it the biggest flop that punishes characters for wanting to be happy, or absolutely horrifying and incredibly avoidable agony. i quite wish slash hope jgy (i’m talking about him because he’s my #1 boy but this also goes for jc and xy and probably every character that inspires such takes) didn’t have the fandom just... regurgitating the most random takes and/or treating them as gospel and Such Good, Insightful Meta because it agrees with their Vibe Read of jgy, when said Vibe Read is 99% rooted in fandom and maybe 1% in zanzan’s evil smiles, and Very Little, If At All, rooted in the things that happen in canon.

#especially if they contain sentences such as 'well logically this doesn't make sense but since when this character makes sense!' #yeah no they do make sense but you have to consider their situation and perhaps take even a tiny part of what they're saying seriously #if your take on jgy is that -- for example -- he is always ALWAYS lying... you're not going to have a good grasp on his character i'm afraid #but people think that all the time! that he's a master manipulator and every single display of emotion he shows is a lie expertly #tailored to make as many people as possible buy into it and feel bad for him. so you've got jgy breaking and TALKING to nmj #(yknow the thing everyone insists would fix 3zun. if they just TALKED ^__^) about how he's scared of everything and everyone and his #hands are tied and he IS different from all the people he's killed because NONE OF THEM were children of whores despised by the society #to which nmj reacts like he does. #gripping it and shaking it and slamming it to the ground #sometimes it is small and little. like a hamster or perhaps a domesticated rat. it is managable #i can hold it and cuddle it close to my chest and go hey. wISH I could say this one is self-explanatory but it’s been too long and now it’s not anymore. I could say the entire franchise (aside from Super which I dropped and haven’t picked back up) but lISTEN GT is SO HATED. I started my fandom life on Facebook of all places and the GT slander was INSANE I made it a point to like it out of spite. If you know jack about DBZ you must know I’m pro-GT. Dragon Ball Good Times. Dragon Ball Gitgud Trunks. Dragon Ball ga- no that one’s too easy. Moving on.

4. Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood

Ok so techincally I haven’t seen it but I’ve read the manga and. It’s the same thing- I’m mentioning Brotherhood because the prompt said “show”. Still FMA rewired something in me when I read it as a teen and Akakawa said "Good Guys” Is Not An Objective Position.

Also Riza was my gay awakening. So. There’s that as well

5. I don’t know what else to say here the rest of my Influental Media are games or something else. Free space for this version of Around The World In 80 Days or whatever it was called. I was strangely obsessed with it as a child and INCONSOLABLE after it ended. I was in denial for years. But alas they never did make another season because it was based on a book and they adapted the whole thing :(

6. Huntik: Secrets And Seekers

Ok so I’ve been rewatching it and concluded that it’s uuh KIND OF BAD and I probably only thought it was the coolest thing ever for the opening (WHICH FUCKS TBH. AFTER ALL THESE YEARS.) and/or because I hadn’t seen any preteen action adventure shows beforw :/ Like it’s not very good in its genre but if you’re 13 years old and haven’t seen anything like it? And also can’t really appreciate the intricacies of the execution and only see the premise and the tropes (because you’re 13 years old) (and have a crush on Dante) then yeah obviousy it’s gonna rock your world. I recorded the theme song from the grandma’s TV with my first cell phone that had a recorder and set that very low quality piece of audio as my ringtone.
