Your doctor will probably ask questions about your symptoms and your medical and menstrual history and perform a simple physical exam (checking for signs of excess hair growth, insulin resistance and acne). Additionally, blood tests are conducted to check the levels of hormones and sugars in the blood.

Is an Ultrasound Needed to Diagnosis Pcos?
In addition to performing a brief physical exam, your doctor will likely quiz you about your symptoms, medical history, and menstrual history. Blood tests are also performed to assess the blood's levels of carbohydrates and hormones.

What is PCOS?
Simply put, PCOS is a hormonal disorder or condition in females where their ovaries contain small cysts that can hamper the usual function and work of the female reproductive system and the hormones produced in the female body. The full form of PCOS is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. It is also referred to as PCOS, which means Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome ad these two terms can be used interchangeably. It is not a disease and does not cause any discomfort or disturbance in the normal day-to-day life of women.  In fact, half the cases of PCOS are not even detected or diagnosed.PCOS is a syndrome that comes with multiple symptoms. The most common symptom is irregular periods. Other symptoms include high production of male hormones in the body, hair growth, weight gain, and enlarged ovaries with multiple cysts.

All of this! Taken from a PCOS page!
#pcosawareness
This is PCOS. 😔
It’s carrying a razor or a set of tweezers in case you see an embarrassing group of hairs where they shouldn’t be. For some of us, it’s shaving our “beard” like a man. Or occasionally plucking or waxing for 45 minutes. Or closely examining a magnified reflection to see if we missed any so we can feel feminine for a day or two.
It’s the embarrassing dark patches around our necks or under our arms. So, we clothe to disguise it in fear of being accused of uncleanliness.
It’s the weight fluctuations for some. A body so disproportioned, that we need 4 different sizes in one pair of jeans so they fit correctly. Our body craves bad food to function normally. Dieting works against us & some times causes an adverse effect. We have to starve ourselves or next to it for weeks just to drop a couple pounds.
For some, it’s cystic acne that any make up will not cover no matter how much you put on. We can’t make eye contact because we know what people are really seeing. And when one pimple goes away, 3 more show up & not just on our face.
It’s the moodiness, anxiety, and mental disorders and diseases because our hormones are 100 different puzzle pieces trying to fit as one. It’s the feeling of hopelessness and struggling to get out of bed to face people just so we can save ourselves the embarrassment because our body hates us.
“You’re too emotional.” We don’t try to be.
It’s not sleeping at night because our mind races. It feels like an active race track that never stops. —Going through so many scenarios & possible outcomes. “How can we fix this?” Or oversleeping so we don’t have to deal with it.
It’s infertility & miscarriage or fighting for a child(ren) for months or endless years and still not getting the chance to be called “Mom.” It’s invasive procedures, tubes upon tubes of blood for weeks, ultrasounds to see if our ovaries are what’s causing us so much pain or checking for Ovarian Cancer. It’s tracking your temperature, and cycles, or trying to bring on a cycle because you just don’t have one anymore. Or peeing on anything that resembles a test in hopes that we’re ovulating or pregnant and this just might be the month we win. It’s some times thousands of dollars or putting up collateral for a loan because you would rather try for a child than have your car or house.
1 in every 10 women have PCOS. Amongst other life challenges, we deal with this. It may seem minor to others, but to us...it consumes us. It controls us, if we let it. We are constantly, amongst other diseases, waiting for the day a cure is discovered. The symptoms can be dormant with weight loss/gastric bypass, multiple prescriptions to treat our symptoms, electrolysis, skin bleaching, but not everyone is fortunate enough to afford all those things. So, we deal with it the best way we know. We suffer in silence because we’re scared that people will think it’s not that big of deal. “Work out harder, be stricter with your diet, I pluck too, it’ll happen if you quit trying.”
We don’t want criticism or pity, we want you to understand.
This is daily life as we know it. 💔

📢NAC (N-acetyl cysteine) has been scientifically studied to have numerous benefits for PCOS 👉NAC is a powerful antioxidant that works to reduce inflammation since inflammation is a hallmark factor of PCOS 👉It lowers insulin resistance which effects most of the women with PCOS. 👉It helps to lower androgens ( male hormones ), since elevated levels of male hormones can cause symptoms like acne, facial hair, irregular periods, hair loss which aggravates the condition. 👉Regulates menstrual cycle and improves fertility.

Dear everyone with PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome),
I want you all to know what the doctors wouldn’t tell me. Pcos is caused by hyperandrogenism. That means that the body (the brain specifically) has an excess of hormones considered to be “male.” (Ie, testosterone) Along with that, we have proven that it begins in the brain, not the ovaries, and as such many many afab trans people have pcos.
I just feel like if I knew this sooner I wouldn’t have spent so many nights crying myself to sleep.

Its a hard fact to face. Some of us afabs and women are given the worst uteruses on earth while there are people out there who are the worst candidates to be parents get good ones. Its so unfair, and it hurts. Miscarriages, disorders, being unable to conceive is a struggle for many of us.
I, for example, have pcos and endometriosis when I have my period it feels like my organs are being ripped out of my anus. The pain is absolutely unbearable. I haven't tried to conceive yet- I'm just not ready- but I know it will be a great challenge.
My friend, she struggles with the same disorders... sadly she lost a few pregnancies and it is beyond devastating to see. To see someone so happy and excited to have a baby and then the other shoe drops. It's crushing, I can't imagine what she went through. I love her so much and it hurts to see her so distraught.
Miscarriages have no mercy, they pick anyone for no reason. Its so easy to give up after that heartbreak... but please do not stop trying if you suffer the same thing, go to your doctor, see what can be done.
