Anything for you

As you're reading a book on different herbs and their uses, metaphysical and physical, you start to play with your hair. It kinda reminds you that the last time you had gotten your hair done was a while ago and it was so you're friend had a model for her graduating test from cosmetology school.
You set the book down and pull out your laptop, looking for hair services. Just a cute trim ans maybe a styling. You just want to feel cared for.
"Hey, honey. Whatcha doin?" Your partner comes over and kisses your cheek before going and starting the kettle, noticing the look on your face. You haven't read in a while and tea was always a great start to entering the 'reading zone' as they called it.
"Just lookin at something. I'm running low on Queen Anne's Lace." A simple little white lie. Shouldn't be too bad when you leave to go get your hair done.
"Oh, are you? I will leave you to it then." Your partner hands you your tea and kisses you again, on the lips, before going to their computer to play games.
You watch them carefully, drinking your tea and scrolling through until you find a place you like. You then put the laptop away, and take out the book you were reading. As you read, you jot down notes about apecific herbs and their uses.
Your partner sees this in the reflection of their glass case, and smirks.

The next day, as your partner is in their office, you pass by in a comfy-cute outfit. "Hey, babes! I'm gonna go get my hair done!"
"Here you go, baby." Your partner gives you two hundred dollars, cash, that seemed to appear out of thin air.
You stop before you can pass the door and hesistantly take it. "Um... thank you, Baby." You slowly walk away and your partner smirks again. They get up and follow you to the garage.
As you're about to get in, they gently pin you against your car.
"Anytime, Honey~" and they hold your waist tightly as they mash their mouth against yours. They kiss you just long enough to make you feel dazed for a short while. When you finally part, they slowly and carefully open your door for you and get you in, buckling you up. They open the garage door as you start the car.
"Have fun, Baby!" They wave as you drive off to the salon.
When you get back, you show off your hair.
"You are stunning, Gorgeous." They gently take your hands in theirs and spin you, making your hair gently spin too.

It has now been about a month since you got your hair done, and you still feel amazing.
As you are getting dressed for the day, complete with the evil eye pendant necklace and black bag, your partner speaks up.
"Hey, let's go get your nails done today. I'll pay." They casually just say it like it's no big deal. But this is the first time anyone has done this. It kind of is a big deal.
"Are you sure? Nail's aren't cheap. Especially the ones I like to get." You are hesitant about taking this offer, especially since they have already shelled out 200 just for your hair. It feels wrong somehow...
"Yeah. What about blue, like your necklace, in french tips? Or a dark blue that goes with your outfit and necklace?" They bring up ideas you haven't even thought of. Never would you ever think to do a blue French Tip nail set, let alone just painting your nails blue. You have painted your nails black, and white, and even a clear coat with sparkles in it for 2012 New Years. But never blue. Maybe they saw all the TikToks on women's nail colors and their meanings...
"Okay... if you're sure." You reluctantly agree. They seem happy that you're letting them spoil you.
"I'm sure, Darlin'." They gently caress your upper arms, trying to assure you; before gliding their fingertips down and bring your hands to their lips. Then you both head out the door, awaiting whatever adventures they have planned out.

"Hey, hun! What do you think about going to the mall?" You shout into the house, not ecpecting a response back.
"Sounds great, babe!" Their voice shouts back at you, "Let's get ready snd then we can go!" You see a figure move from a door and go into your bedroom.
As you both get into their car, your partner asks, "So... what's with the mall trip? I'm not upset. Just curious."
Trusting that your partner isn't upset, you tell them. "I haven't been in a while, so I just want to look around. Possibly grab a few things, but mostly window shop."
"Okay, Dove." They bring your hand up and kiss it as they watch the road, glancing at you whenever they can.
When you reach the mall, you enter and look around. Still has that same magic... Mall Magic.
You grab your partner's hand and take them to the food court first. If your hands are full, you won't get anything. So you grab a large lemonade, and they get a soft pretzel. You drag them through different stores, pointing out things. "Wow! I haven't seen that band in so long!" "Whoa! They actually have it in stock?! I haven't been able to find this anywhere!" "This is pretty."
Your partner takes notes of it all and tell you to go rest. Grab another lemonade and something to eat. "You've walked enough, baby. Now rest."
As you are eating your to-go salad and another lemonade, you see your partner.
And their full hands.
"Honey!" You rush to get up, and help them, "What did you do?!" You ask them, worried for their answer.
"I noticed what you bought and what you didn't. But the stuff I saw you look at, was the stuff I got." They smile and walk back to the table, arms lighter now.
"I thought you were on your phone." You look at them quizzically.
"I was. Writing down everything you liked but didn't buy. So I bought it for you." They smile and grab the chicken sandwhich & soda you bought for them.
"Baby... why have you been spoiling me? I'm grateful, but i don't understand why." You take another bite of your salad.
They sigh, setting down their food. This has just turned into a serious talk. "You can talk to me, Baby. What's going on?" You persist, wanting to find out what is plaguing your partner so much they felt like they had to spoil you.
"I... I just see the way you have been treating yourself recently. It's not the healthiest. You skipped dinner last night and then skipped breakfast this morning. You were going to skip lunch if I didn't have you get food. And you have been pushing yourself so hard... I don't ever want you to do that. I love you. I... I want you to love yourself the way I do." They look at you like a puppy with its tail between its legs, like it got caught doing something bad.
"Oh, baby..." You grab their face gently and kiss them even softer.
"Thank you..."

I feel like a clown for saying that I'm taking a break from the hetalia fanbase while having 40% of the active blogs I follow be hetalia blogs

I feel like people are sleeping on the potential of an Unnamed!MC on Leander's route.
It's been well talked about within the fandom that Leander's design is riddled with religious/pagan symbolism (@lesbianrumi has an amazing post compiling these!), and I do feel like religion (or religion-adjacent) will be a key thing in his route for a couple more reaons.
In the animated trailer, Leander stands infront of what looks to be a stained glass window. Stained glass have a strong connection with religious buildings (like churches).
In the post about his flower motif, Leander is represented by a white lilly. Lillies have a multitude of assosiated symbolism, but the 3 specificlly chosen by RSS to use are Devotion, Sympothy, & Faith (devotion & faith being the key ones for my point).
Anyway, this isn't a theory or anything. Just thinking about the religious trauma potential...

leander, pagan symbolism, and other notes.
ok so people have already brought up that leander is covered in or surrounded by a lot of symbolism. but there’s way more where that came from. idk if someone has compiled all of them in one place but i’m doing it here bc i’m feeling crazy at the moment
first, let’s get the obvious ones out of the way
there’s the ouroboros on his earring and in his charm
it’s a pagan symbol and also symbolizes alchemy. the ouroboros features a serpent eating its own tail and “symbolizes the eternal nature of the universe and the cycle of life, death, and rebirth. The symbol is closely associated with that of infinity, and the two are typically combined” (source)
we can see that it’s combined with the infinity symbol on the charm, which of course has to do with eternity
then there’s the triple moon/triple goddess on his belt buckle, yet another pagan symbol (credit to this post for this insight!)
here’s some info on the triple moon: “The first crescent, the waxing moon, symbolizes new life, rejuvenation, and new beginnings. The middle circle represents the full moon when magic is at its most powerful. Finally, the second crescent moon represents the moon during its waning period. This time of the moon phase is a time that is regarded as the best to send things away, remove them from your life, or finish things.” (source)
there are also white lilies featured in leander’s CG, on his charm and pin, and in the game trailer
surprise! it’s also a pagan symbol!
supposedly, “pagans used white lilies as decorations on May Day. Part of the festivities include young women dancing around the May Pole with ribbons with lilies in their hair. In this setting lilies represent renewed life, health and fertility.” (source)
but wait, there’s more!
like the earth symbol on the chain attached to his lapel pin
another pagan symbol that “is also sometimes used to symbolize Mother Earth. The element of earth is associated with the colors of brown and green, abundance, prosperity, and fertility.” (source) apparently it’s the ultimate symbol of the divine feminine
finally, green is practically leander’s official colour. it’s the colour of his eyes, his magic, and is featured heavily all over his sprite and official art. interestingly, it’s also the colour of the cloaks that his bloodhounds wear
you guessed it - the colour green is tied to paganism
it symbolizes “youth and fertility, evil and envy” and is connected to the season of spring as well as to nature (source). in the bible, green “means immortality, resurrection, growth, prosperity, and restoration” as well as fertility (source)
now onto some things that i might just be reading into lmao
like the gold points on leander’s trench coat, as well as the tiny inverted triangle between his clavicles, which is also featured in one of initial sketches for his earring. this could be the water symbol
again, it’s pagan. and is “believed to have a strong feminine connection, and so it is associated with all aspects of the goddess. The inverted triangle used to symbolize water is felt by some to symbolize the womb and is befitting with this element's feminine association.” (source)
the same source mentions that water is a “healing and purifying element that is connected to the West. Water can be used in rituals involving love and other emotions, and flowing water in nature, such as a river, or the sea, can be incorporated into magical workings that focus on carrying away negativity or other unwanted aspects of your life.”
i included it because it mentions the goddess, the womb (so possibly fertility), and femininity, which you’ve probably noticed by now is a recurring meaning for the other symbols on him
flowing water also brings lowtown to mind, since it’s described as being eroded by some sort of flood
next i’ll bring up leander’s dagger earring again, focusing not on the ouroboros but the dagger itself
in the demo, the mc notes that the earring is “dagger shaped.” but what if it’s not a dagger at all? what if it’s the ankh?
this could be a stretch, but note the hoop at the top of the dagger
the ankh is an “ancient Egyptian hieroglyph means life or living. Over time the ankh has come to symbolize eternal life and immortality to people from many walks of life. In ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs, the gods were always seen carrying an ankh, making it a symbol of divinity.” (source)
another reach, but i was looking at pagan symbols that might be a match for the diamond that shows up on leander’s lapel pin and his belt buckle, and came across the unicursal hexagram
this is the weakest link imo, especially because this isn’t a pagan symbol, but i thought i’d add it anyway since it seemed neat
the unicursal hexagram is a “six-pointed star is drawn unicursally, meaning that it is drawn in one continuous line. The hexagram represents the divine and heavenly forces of the universe. In Aleister Crowley's occult order Thelema, a five-petaled flower is placed in the middle to represent the pentacle and the five classical elements.” (source)
some other insights that i wanted to bring up here, though they have less to do with symbolism and are more concrete/tied to the game specifically
first up, as mentioned earlier, green might as well be leander’s official colour... so what about the red items on him? what significance do they have?
there’s this glowing red object attached to his belt, which i can’t help but think looks like an inverted version of the largest spire in eridia. you know, the spire that’s confirmed to be the senobium
also note how the windows in eridia all seem to glow with a similar red light in this CG...
there’s also a (faintly glowing?) red gem on his dagger earring, which looks to be diamond-shaped
what does it mean? what does it all mean?
your guess is as good as mine! but given all the allusions to the divine feminine, the (triple) goddess, fertility, etc. i can’t help think that leander might be in league with some kind of goddess or female deity. we already know that gods exist in some form or another, since ais is connected to a god and kuras is an angel, so the idea isn’t completely off base
did this goddess save leander’s life in the past, hence the constant motifs of renewed life, rebirth/resurrection, immortality, and so forth? maybe the scar that covers a good portion of his body had been enough to kill leander, or just nearly, until she intervened somehow
is he working with her to potentially overthrow the senobium, which we know he dislikes? are leander’s bloodhounds in on this? is the fact that leander’s magic is so powerful due to some kind of pact he has with the goddess?
obviously, i have no clue. i’m just throwing things at the wall and seeing what sticks msfjskfjhfd

I hope I’m not reading into this too much, but the way that the Touchstarved logo (with the characters) on the Red Springs Studios website and in the PV trailer is set up makes me think it’s not just an artistic choice. I know that the characters in the image have been rearranged in a different order for certain promotions, but I just want to talk about why I think the characters in the main logo are set up that way and what it could imply about Touchstarved’s routes.
As seen above, Ais is in the center with Leander on his right (our left) and Mhin on his left (our right). Behind him, there’s Kuras and Vere. Ais is obviously the poster boy for Touchstarved. He’s usually in the center for their promotional images and merchandise e.g. the game’s loading screen, the pins and the tote bag. The devs themselves have said that Ais was the first character they created and that they built the world of Eridia around him.
There’s lots of theories floating around about Leander’s design which features Ouroboros, his eye bags, motifs of life and death, his white lilies, and lots of other things. His belt in particular features a triple goddess symbol which represents stages of womanhood as the Maiden, the Mother and the Crone. The Maiden is associated with beginnings– so things like (re)birth, youth, exploration, etc. The Mother is associated with, well, motherhood but also power and stability. The Crone is the opposite of the Maiden, being associated with death. I’m sure there’s already theories on his belt and this symbol, but I think personally Leander only represents one of them in the grand scheme of things.
I think Leander, Ais and Mhin respectively represent the Maiden, Mother and Crone. Despite Leander’s death motifs, I feel like him being the Maiden is fitting because of his personality and character design. His coat is green and so are his eyes and magical flowers. Green is the color of life. Though his flowers are typically used for funerals in some cultures, flowers themselves are full of life. He even comments that they don’t last long, but they’re beautiful nonetheless. As life is. Secondly, Leander’s personality is, perhaps, the liveliest among the cast. He’s always upbeat and smiling (or blushing) which is why I think he represents the Maiden. He’s what you’d think of when you think of youth. He’s partying, drinking, performing magic tricks, has a club/the Bloodhounds and he seems to be having fun all the time.
As for Ais, I feel like it's pretty understandable that he is the Mother. He’s marketed as powerful, violent and intimidating. He loves bar brawls and hates easy fights. Additionally, it’s implied that he used to be a leader or at least in a gang. Red is a predominant part of his character and design. The Seaspring is red. So are his horns, eyes and the accents on his clothes. Red is, well, a powerful color. It represents powerful, strong emotions like love and anger. And emotions are a big part of Ais’s character. They’re his fatal flaw!
And finally, Mhin is the Crone. I was actually debating whether they were the Maiden (and Leander would be the Crone) since they were fairly new to Eridia like MC… like a new beginning in a new city? I’m going on a tangent here, but I think it may be deliberate on the devs’ part. Leander and Mhin could possibly represent the Maiden and the Crone because life and death are intertwined. Mhin has a celtic knot/triquetra on their cloak’s clasps. The triquetra is used to represent three things that are deeply connected e.g. the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. In pagan traditions, it’s used to represent the Maiden, the Mother, and the Crone… like the triple goddess symbol on Leander’s belt. Anyways back to Mhin, I think the Crone suits them the best. Their supposed monster form is either a crow or a raven. Black feathered birds are associated with bad omens. Moreover, crows and ravens are associated with death thanks to pop culture and media. Our first encounter with Mhin was when we were at death’s door. They also shroud themselves with a cloak, have white hair and are extremely pale when compared to the rest of the cast.
The way Leander, Ais and Mhin are set up in the logo makes me want to believe that they’re representing the triple goddess symbol and that at least story wise, they may be the most important routes. They’re placed at the front and all three characters have something to do with curses. Leander knows his way around curses. He might be cursed himself. His eye bags are pointed out by MC and he doesn’t seem to be that fond of sleep either. Ais technically doesn’t have a curse, but the last two lines of his character introduction are “He’s beginning to suspect that he may not be in control of his powers as he thought. Can you save each other, or will he drag you into the abyss with him?”... which sounds like a curse to me. And aside from Leander, is also the only one to know about MC’s curse. Then, for Mhin, they also have a curse of their own and have been seen sneaking around the Senobium… possibly for a cure of their own?
This isn’t to say that Vere and Kuras aren’t important and relevant characters. It may just be the typical thing with otome games where certain routes have more lore than others and it’s recommended to save them for last. It’s usually the poster boy’s route. In this case, Ais’s.

Well, well, have I enjoyed writing this? I have enjoyed it, I am a lover of mythology,bI know Greek mythology the most, but I would love to learn more about other mythologies. We could go with the classic “ROs’ reaction to the mc saying “I can hold my entire world in my hands, wanna see?” and then gently cradling the RO’s face?”
Or a more deep one like “what would be a legend/fable/tale/myth that would really speak to them or that they would particularly enjoy?”

Anita: Rapunzel. Something about being overly sheltered/trapped in a tower and wanting out...
Flo: the changeling-myth appeals to him. The reasons for this can be inferred, but I don't wanna go too deep right now. Also, he likes anything with huge beasts/dragons
Reem: Hansel and Gretel bc it reminds her of her bond with Flo. On a more personal level, she likes mermaids. As a singer, the thought of luring a seafarer into a watery grave with her voice is deeply appealing to her
Basil: HE LOVES ALL OF THEM. He views folklore differently anyhow due to his pagan beliefs. That aside, he likes the Arthurian mythos. He would also like to pull an epic sword from a stone.
The "entire world while holding face"-thing:

Ok but why is Pi bad but Mrs Holdsworth isn’t? And why are goblins bad? I know they’re antisemitic but I don’t understand why it’s only the one witch that’s bad then. Are witches antisemitic? /genq
I can do my best to answer this but I want to preface it heavily. I’m a gentile/not Jewish, so if there are Jewish folks who have spoken on this, you should talk to them first over what I have to say. Any research I have in this is because my book series has a dwarf as the MC (another commonly antisemitic fantasy race) and I have actively been doing my best to learn about these tropes by listening to Jewish folks in the topic to make sure I avoid promoting harmful content in my books, but that shouldn't replace talking to Jewish folks about it.
First, I want to say that none of these are just exclusively antisemitic. The problem lies in the common tropes used for them. Witches and dwarves are easier to talk about this on this point since they do have real world counterparts. Goblins get a little iffy, but you can write goblins that aren’t antisemitic, as vocalized by several Jewish members in the ttrpg community. It’s the how that’s the issue.
Let’s talk about witches for a second. We can’t just say witches are antisemitic because witchcraft is a living separate faith. Saying that you practice modern paganism doesn’t make you antisemitic, but there is an overlapped history there. Paganism just means “not Christian,” which means that the “old pagan tradition” included Judaism, and both what most people call “pagans” now a days and Jewish people were tried as pagans in ye olden days. And it’s also why there is a complicated history here to unpack.
Take the classic witch hat for example. There is a history of female brewsters using black pointed hats to help market their wares. There is also a history of the pointed hats being used to mark Jewish people in crowds. The combined purge of both groups actively blended the stereotypes because they were both tried for the same thing: witchcraft and satanic practices.
That doesn’t make witches antisemitic. What makes witches like Pi antisemitic is how they’re depicted. The rest of the tropes: evil magic, secret orders of practice, physical traits like beady eyes, hooked/prominent noses, and, the big one, green skin. Green skin was a trope used to other Jewish people consistently. One or two of these can be done without being antisemitic. People can be in secret orders or use shadow magic, but it’s the tandem use that’s the issue, the physical traits AND the practices that make is antisemitic.
That’s why too Mrs. Holdsworth isn’t. Sure, she’s in a coven, but she isn’t depicted with stereotyped physical traits of a Jewish person. Or why our Dark Riders aren’t antisemitic. They may use shadow magic, but they aren’t actively depicting these other traits. It’s the tandem use that’s the issue.
Similarly, let’s talk about dwarves. Dwarves often fall into antisemitic tropes. They’re greedy, they horde wealth, they’re isolationist. But they aren’t explicitly antisemitic as a race. The core problem here begins with Tolkien. Tolkien actually had a huge amount of respect for the Jewish people and researched Jewish diaspora that influenced how he wrote his dwarves. The dwarvish diaspora in Middle Earth reflects this. The problem is most fantasy writers saw Tolkien’s work, took the spark notes version of it, and didn’t explain these traits in setting, which fell into caricature as a result. They checked off the whole list without unpacking the why. Context matters here, and plays another part in what makes a depiction of a fantasy race antisemitic. Were these people hunted and now isolating to rebuild their culture? Is mining directly related to their primary trade as a nation? Is it one hat or are they multifaceted with a notable cultural practice?
This is where we get back to goblins. Goblins as a creature do predate their antisemitic tropes, but much like witches and dwarves, were blended in to centuries of antisemitism. Green skin, beady eyes, hooked noses, and greedy. Those are the issues with goblins. You don’t have to do all of them, the HP goblins don’t have green skin, but they do hit the rest of the list. The snow goblins hit all four of the big points here.
There was a Jewish creator I saw who had redrawn goblins to avoid the antisemitic tropes in D&D, which is where I’d first learned more about this. It’s been a while and I didn’t write down their name, so instead I’ll point out the goblins in the Hobbit. Largely, they’re little orcs, and pale from living under the mountains, but I’ve seen no claims they they’re antisemitic. Because the goblins in the Hobbit aren’t greedy, they don’t universally have hooked noses and green skin. They might have hordes but it’s more of a bandit horde than a wealth horde. They aren’t lingering near societies to hunt bad kids (notable Jewish people often couldn’t live in the cities and had camps near them), they lived in the mountains and are depicted like mountain bandits. Like Mrs. Holdsworth, they hit one or two tropes, but it’s not to that tandem use.
It can be done. But SSE didn’t. The caprans were in a similar boat as the Hobbit goblins, they hit a few tropes but their implementation fell closer to fae tropes. Beady eyes and hooked nosed. The conversion to the snow goblins though ticks all the boxes for them. It took a creature that could pass as goblin-like but not antisemitic and gave them all the traits that make goblins harmful in common depictions. Calling them goblins is arguably irrelevant to the problem. The term goblin can be used, and calling the snow goblins something else wouldn’t change the problems with them physically and the tropes they embody. The snow goblins need to be changed entirely because their characteristics represent a list of antisemitic tropes used in tandem, that the name goblin just amplifies. A different name wouldn’t change the greedy, green skinned creatures that they’re depicted as, and that’s the problem. And that’s why Pi needs to be changed too.

With regard to soulmates.
I came across an amazing premise, just spectacular drama bait, though only in the abstract.
The MC is informed that they have 100 soulmates.
If a soulmate confesses their love, and it's not reciprocated, fate will ensure they die shortly afterwards.
If you take that premise on its face value, then there is no end to the problems that spring from it.
The central concept is stretched beyond its breaking point.
A 100 car pileup that requires rebuilding the road.
Of course the actual story is a comedy that handwaves all the interesting parts away.
But man, someone doing that premise justice would be peak.
You know how in certain Christian theologies, pagans are judged by their works on earth until and unless they have been offered the chance to convert, in which case they automatically go to hell for sure? And how people always go 'well then why the fuck would you tell them?'
This seems like that except for hitting on people. No confession of love, no problem!
