this trend of editing the what do i got scene back to back with the me scene is gonna send me to an early grave anon IT'S INSANE.

In other news, I'm feeling extra feral about the don't ever do that scene today, so you're about to get another breakdown, because Rudy and Maddie really were on something else that day.

Like, this Maddie look is actually insane because it's relief but also disbelief and lowkey she doesn't really trust that he's really there? Like she was so sure he was done for, and almost bracing herself to find a body, and he's just walking about bragging about it.

Like, it gets worse when she realizes that because not only is he alive when she thought he was dead only seconds ago, but he's actually making light of the situation. She thought she lost him, and she didn't, but he's bragging like it would've been fine either way, and it really wouldn't have been for her. Maddie knocked it out of the part here, like you can actually see how terrified she is, and the labored breathing is something else.

And the problem is JJ doesn't even realize at first, because when he turns to her he's still expecting the same mildly impressed and relieved reaction from her (and affection, which Lara already touched on).

But she's literally about to cry from relief but also fear of what just happened, and that's when it starts to hit him.

His face here is actually insane. This lighting doesn't help either, but Rudy's micro-expressions, and how he goes from indifference to realization to guilt.

And the tiny nod he does when she tells him don't do it again, which is not exactly a promise, but there's an understanding there now that wasn't there before. That hey actually if something happens to him, she's not going to be okay. Which creates a new problem for him, because this whole self-sabotaging JJ's doing in the first place is because he doesn't think he deserves her and he wants the best for her (which is his head is never him), so there's kind of a new conflict for him there because suddenly for Kie to be okay, he has to be okay too.

I wish they didn't get interrupted so fast and that we could've had this moment be just a tiny bit longer, but the fact that when the cops call out to them, they both instantly reach out for eachother????? no it literally makes me want to do something so drastic.

Misc sailing team au dynamic brainworms

420 sailing partners with skipper who thinks they’re in charge because they have the tiller and always yells for port right of way and crew who’s done with their skipper bossing them and having to do everything.

Skipper yelling at crew for not rolling enough on the tack and crew swings the boom on purpose into skippers head on the next gybe

crew is on the trapeze wire and skipper does a mean tack, doesn’t give them warning to unhook and jokes about how sailors can die from not unhooking from the wire in time, capsizing and being wrangled to death under water by the trap

Screaming at the autobailers making the boat a pool… and why is it up to our knees?!? (Universal experience, a cut up milk container is your bestie now, I don’t make the rules)

Duct-taping the autobailers shut out of spite (as you should)

Skipper yelling about blisters from main sheet and crew yells back telling them to shut up and hike to flatten the boat before the capsize and just wear the damn gloves

Skipper who yells at crew about how they’re hips aren’t hanging off the boat so they’re hiking incorrectly (let’s be real, they just wants to stare at their crew) and whines about not wanting to capsize so flatten the damn boat.

Crew deadpans by telling them they can’t even trapeze and boat balance so handle your stupid steering stick properly.

Crew: WHY ARE YOU STEERING INTO IRONS ?! Did they not teach you sailing directly into the wind is a no?!

Crew whose role definition involved planing strategy for the regatta and stubborn skipper who won’t listen because I’m steering, I choose

Skipper saying they’re gonna tack, forgot directions, goes for a gybe instead, gets crew whacked in head by boom amidst confusion

THE duo that gets a black flag on the start line and has to forfeit the race

Skipper: WHAT IF WE DO A PORT TACK BARGE START ?!

Crew: … WHY? And cross tack the entire fleet?! (Of like 50 boats?)

Skipper: *excited eye glimmer*

Crew:…. *inhibitor side slipping and begins enabling*

Comes in last place, but hey, what’s a regatta without someone trying that?

Crew staring into the skippers soul on the start line like do not fuck up. And skipper begs them to just not sit in the crew box and face backwards because it’s scary. Crew retorts that this is proper crew posting so skipper should just shut the fuck up (skipper is kinda impressed their crew can backwards navigate left from right and not vomit, does not admit)

What is your favorite underrated Jiara moment?

I don't know if it's underrated, but "it's a no-brainer you're picking kie" makes me want to punch a wall because of the way it so unintentionally set up how much better JJ is for Kie. Like, the Pates made a huge deal of Pope going after her and talking to her and being like if it was up to me, I know what choice I would make. Like it was some kind of big sacrifice on his part to choose Kie over a girl he's barely ever interacted with and whose brother had beat the life out of him only days before. And then in the next scene, you have JJ just unequivocally saying they're not doing this without Kie, like there was never any choice for him. And I think it (unintentionally, lbr) set up the Jiara dynamic so perfectly, in the sense that it's never ever a question for them - their loyalties lie with each other, and there's never any doubt about it.

ahh this is such a fun question, thanks so much for the ask! a difficult question as well lol, i am very indecisive so a top 10 anything is... tough

i'll limit myself to animanga only, aaand lump some characters in under the same banner so there's definitely going to be more than 10 here. i'm also prohibiting myself from giving more than one slot to hpmi characters or that would just be the whole list

anyway:

ICHISAMA (package deal, do not separate)

this is probably obvious (or should be obvious) from my pinned but in first place are of course my forever blorbos (and forever otp) ichiro and samatoki of hypnosis mic

it's hard to say what i like about them besides "literally everything" which is kind of funny because for like the first year-ish of me being into hpmi neither of them were my top favorites lol

and now i genuinely have to say i like them both equally, and like them both the most. out of any characters of anything ever. i typed a bunch of paragraphs after this but think i'll actually just stop here because nothing really does justice to how they make me feel (unwell, in a good way)

this post is already getting long so everything else will go under a cut! and besides ichisama in first, none of the other characters will be strictly ranked in order. mostly just listed as i think of them

2. bon my beloved, of showa genroku rakugo shinju

this is my favorite anime of all time, and what i would personally consider the best anime of all time, and bon is perhaps the single most beautiful character with the single most beautiful story i've consumed ever. i never feel any urge to make or consume fanworks of this series because it's just so mind-blowingly perfect and complete to me

i won't spoil too much about the series, but it's a tragedy, and that's something i don't read or watch much of. so it's truly exception for this to be my favorite, but it was just that good

bon is in so many ways a tragic character, and the series allows you to see him through his whole life. he's tragic in such a hauntingly beautiful way, though, and i left the series feeling like he now lives in my bones

this is probably also my favorite ishida akira role ever, which is saying a lot because he's always great. i love the anime because it gives such life to the rakugo performed in the series, and though i'm not an expert on rakugo, i felt like the performances were top-tier. and it always impresses me when voice actors take on roles that require them to perform a whole ass other art form (like rakugo or rap)

3. aomine (knb) AND grimmjow (bleach)

these are the same goddamn man i'm putting them together no one can stop me. they are a) blue b) panther-coded c) very aggro d) very aggro at a ginger mc specifically e) DEPRESSED and f) voiced by suwabe

(though honestly grimmjow's just here because they're too similar to separate, aomine's the real favorite here)

the thing with aomine is basically—

—and that paired with his tough guy/badass/fuckface manner is very appealing to me. i don't think it's even remotely possible for me to be brief in why he's so dear to me, but the short version is he's a deeply traumatized asshole and i'm into that

4. KIYOSE HAIJI RUN WITH THE WIND GUY OF ALL TIME (and various other sports guys who are single mothers)

i may have a lot of guys of all times but haiji is for real. before ichiro he was my favorite character of anything ever for a while, and he is definitely my favorite type of sports guy (so a lot of other sports guys are going to be lumped into this category with him lol)

he has an infectious passion for running and he will infect you. whether you let him or not. it's not negotiable. you will run. no matter what

i think he brings out the best in those around him, sometimes at a detrimental cost to himself. he pushes his team hard but pushes himself even harder. we stan a self-destructive king

and i'm putting natsusa number24 right in this rank with him

because while number24 is objectively Not a good anime, it's easily one of my favorite sports series and i sincerely love natsusa just as much as i love haiji. natsusa is like if someone made haiji but cranked the bitch factor up to one billion, he is the most gaslit gatekeep girlboss guy in all of sports anime and i love him for that

bonus shoutout to iura kei of shakunetsu kabaddi, usui yuuta of days, and sugawara koushi of haikyuu. gotta be my favorite flavor of sports guy

(ok this is not even fully true because i think my days favorite did ultimately end up being mizuki because he's just so fucking stupid BUT usui i still love you.........)

5. kaworu and all his ridiculously many expies (aka the "and then a weird guy appear" category)

basically i'm talking about these fucks

they show up, sometimes not even for very long, and all they do is cause problems (ok victor probably doesn't really belong here but he honestly does fit the mold and i'm too lazy to crop him out from this old graphic i made lol) and love another weird guy so catastrophically that it alters the course of the story

the way kaworu loves shinji the way komaeda loves hinata the way zashunina…… obsesses over shindo. like fine wine to me, chef's kiss. tbh that's why victor fits the mold for me, his and yuuri's love is less the "People Will Die" type of catastrophic but it's still life-changing, life-saving, for them both

ironically even though kaworu is a ryo expy himself i'm not. i'm not that big on ryo, i'll be honest. maybe it's because i wasn't the biggest of netflix devilman in general. i should probably read the manga sometime, might change my mind

6. SOFT BOYS natsume and rei

putting them together in part because lol look at them making the same pose on their anime covers even

these are both (natumse's book of friends and march comes in like a lion) two of my favorite series, and two of my favorite protagonists. they're soft but not weak, hurt but not broken. it just feels comfortable to spend time with them, to follow them even when they're hurting

7. CELTY MY BELOVED, of durarara

honestly celty is just cool as fuck. there are lots and lots of reasons to love her but i get so incoherent about it. it's really strange because i feel like the way narita writes women is not great in many ways, and yet... he always fucking... writes the hottest fucking women goddamn, i can't be mad about that

i always liked shinra too. because of how relatable he was lmao. i would be a weird little man about celty too i'm sorry

8. sir integra fairbrook wingates hellsing, of hellsing

god. yet another. she's just so fucking cool. massively obsessed with her. it's been too long since i've watched hellsing (and durarara for that matter) for me to remember a ton of details but her whole personality is just so appealing to me

you know the way people like fma olivier armstrong. sir integra's my armstrong

9. hei, of darker than black

once again he's just cool as fuck, also i'm chinese and it's rare to see a really good chinese character in anime, much less as a main character. darker than black is an older series at this point, but it remains one of my old favorites. second season was a bit questionable but honestly i didn't hate it. my boy got fuucked uuupppppp (said with delight)

funny story about hei is when i first started watching the show there was this moment where i thought "this is a weird detail to notice but something about his collarbones look really nice to me? they're just two lines but idk they're lovely"

THEN LATER IN THE SERIES on at least two other occasions that i can remember, maybe more, actual characters in canon commented on THIS SPECIFIC THING. HIS COLLARBONES. so what do i like about hei? what does anyone like about hei? apparently it's his collarbones lmao

10. nooooo i'm running out of space now and there are so many more blorbso i would talk about i can't choose who to put here but but but closing my eyes and picking the first name that comes to mind MIKOTO SUOH K PROJECT

part of me thinks i shouldn't actually put him here because he's, like, red samatoki lmao but no he deserves a spot. i think. idk. that's what i'm going with for now but, you know, indecisive

anyway. love a tragic mfer with one dead boyfriend who haunts the narrative and another ex who [redacted idk if anyone is going to be reading this far but just in case no one wants k spoilers i want say anything but you know this show is old as balls by now]

i actually love both of the factions in k (there are more factions later but i'm focusing on red and blue) because they're both families in different ways, and mikoto and munakata both care about their families in different ways (yes i love that bitch munakata too)

and the way they care for their people while failing to fully let their people care for them in return is sooooo delicious as a character trait to me

so that's the end of this enormous post i guess! there are approximately a billion other characters i love that i didn't get to mention but i will do my best to shut up now lmao

Why don’t you ship it?

I do not like babs. Everything I've seen her in (besides gotham knights, funny enough) has me feeling either really abrasive towards her or like she's filling the role of "the girl" character. That said if anyone has recs for good stuff with her in it I'll give it a shot! I don't want to hate her or anything but I've really only seen her at her worst. I also just don't know enough about dinah, i like her in the cartoons she's been in but thats not always the best reference for what a character is like overall. (Again. I do take comic recs if any of u have a ship or a blorbo that u wanna share ur love for <3)

What would have made you like it?

What are your favorite things about the ship?

Ohhh god. I am so unwell about them. Everything? They r so cliche ship archetypes and i am not immune to it. The childhood crush potential, the red/blue, the maladjusted social butterfly/slightly more put-together introvert, you can even do enemies to lovers if that's what you wanna do. I also think they have the potential to understand each other more than anyone else in their lives, its hard to picture them having a completely happy ending with anyone other than each other. (Is this what having an otp is like?) I still like other ships involving them but theyre so Soulmates to me <3

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

Dick isn't the one helping Jason, it's the other way around. Jason is so much more attuned to his emotions whereas Dick is an absolute mess of repression and baggage, and Jason gets it! He understands how fucked up and traumatized Dick is! The reason why it would be hard for them to confront challenges would rest heavily on the mix of Dick's lifetime of self-sacrifice and repression and Jason's unapologetic attitude about his trauma. Jason can confront these things in a way that Dick has just never allowed himself to do, Jason's whole /thing/ is confronting his fucked up past. I have given many a speech on how Jason could teach Dick how to heal, but I think it might be more common to see that Dick has to make Jason "good" rather than reflecting on the healing that they both need on a more personal level.

2. What would they do if the other woke in a manic state after a nightmare?

(i'm gonna assume this was op's typo for "panic" bc i don't think that's how manic states work)

this is unfortunately a fairly regular occurance. there's no way in hell jeong jeong doesn't have horrible nightmares of the world in flames. in fact this is a major part of my fic ghosts. i think piandao's very good at staying levelheaded when other people are panicking, and he's able to be a steadying influence. he'll encourage jeong jeong to talk about it if he wants but not push too hard if jeong jeong doesn't want to. it's kinda cheesy, but i like the idea that jeong jeong has fewer nightmares sleeping next to piandao

i think it would be rarer the other way around, but it's not like piandao doesn't have traumatic memories. i think if it happened jeong jeong would feel like he's not the right person to handle it. he doesn't think he's a gentle, healing person. but he'd find it within him. he knows how to meditate, so he could coach piandao through breathing. i don't think he'd ask what it was about and i don't think piandao would tell him but it'd be okay just because of how important it would be to have that interaction. for piandao to be vulnerable in front of jeong jeong, and for jeong jeong to discover his caregiving side.

well i have multiple playlists (main, all mitski, all taylor swift) but hot & heavy by lucy dacus is basically exactly the plot of ghosts (which has its own mini playlist)

"how could i deny a diamond in the rough" - piandao being an exceptional person who came from a lower-class background

"you're better than ever, but i knew you when / it's bittersweet to see you again" - jeong jeong is conflicted about this transformation piandao's undergone. it's good to see him gain the respect he always deserved, but jeong jeong is critical of the fire nation elite and he feels like he doesn't know piandao anymore.

the funny thing is that i first heard the song after i'd already written the first drafts of the fic, so it's not like i wrote the fic to fit the song. in fact, i started the fic in march 2021, and the song came out in april 2021. i would jokingly accuse lucy of plagiarism but i cannot do that even as a joke i love her.

My two favorite boys 😊 (they both get purple because it’s my fav color and both are also associated with it)

Yin Yu:

I am… mentally unwell when I think of him. I need to inspect him under a microscope. I relate to him a bit too much and that is quite concerning. Despite that, my number one favorite character in literature. I can talk probably talk for hours regarding him. I even went as far as to have him as my pfp.

Just… him.

I want to explore Yin Yu’s character more because he is just so interesting to me. And he quite complicated. It makes me sad that I won’t be able to see him in the official adaptations yet (donghua/manhua) because he appears quite a bit late after.

Don’t even get me started on my OTP for him (it’s Quan Yizhen who else)

Scáthach:

Why did I have to hyperfixate on such a minor character that appears in the second half of the game? He doesn’t even get that many lines of dialogue, and his twin sister, mother, and cousin are much more popular than he is. Idk why I love him so much I just do. He is so fucking underrated and he deserves love.

I honestly just want an FE4 remake just for more content for Scáthach. Nothing else (well maybe other stuff but he is one of the main reasons).

I need to learn how to draw just so I can draw them both. I am also currently working on an OTP 30 Day Prompt Challenge for them both, and I hope I can finish it. I am actually doing quite good in writing, but I have also been quite busy so who knows when I will actually be done with it.
