Steve: The saddest thing happened at work today.
Bucky: Oh, I’m sorry, Stevie. Would a thimbleful of milk help you?
Steve: Unfortunately, no. There was a disturbance and both villains ended up getting taken into custody, and the cutest little dog you have ever seen got left behind.
Bucky: Aw.
Sam: Aw.
Tony: I don’t like where this is going.

Do I create another OC for my Doctor Who/Sarah Jane Adventures story?
If I do, I have an idea of who they could be. But do I need them?

Welcome to Letters2fiction!
The concept here is to send in a question or a letter request, and you’ll get a response from your fictional character of choice, from the list below. Please stick to the list I’ve made, but of course, you can ask if there’s some other characters I write for, I don’t always remember all the shows, movies or books I’ve consumed over the years and I’m sure I’m missing a lot 😅

Showdown 2k24 Nominations!
alright, redoing this post now that I can give a concrete start date of Monday the 15th of January!
Nominations for the tournament are open up until the start date, and you can submit anyone who could reasonable be considered a companion, either by sending me an ask or by filling out
this form.
If you make your nomination via the form you can also submit some propaganda to go alongside the poll. Anyone who was considered a regular at any point in the last year will automatically be included, as well as anyone who was in the original tournament (+/- a couple I might miss or misremember as being a regular because I don't have old lists anywhere). The exception to this is last years winner, Rose Tyler, she will not be getting a place in the main tournament, however after the final I will run a poll to see if our new winner can beat her. (oh and also maybe I'll leave the TARDIS out but not fully decided yet)
The tournament is going to be run in the same way I did @adventure-showdown, meaning I'll keep companions from different periods of the show and different mediums segregated at first so the nicher ones don't immediately get knocked out, and slowly get mingled together. The exact details are going to depend on just how may characters get included.
Errm yeah, so go wild, nominate whoever you like (as long as they are a companion). If they are from teh TV show they have to be on this list to qualify, and for EU companions I'm going with them needing a TARDIS wiki page, and also I will give them a quick proof read to make sure they pass, the bar is low but it is there
if you want to submit an alternate version of the character sorry but main version only unless you can give a really good reason, eg regenerations of a time lord
also, if they are primarily from another franchise that'll be a no
The full list of contestents is under the cut and will be updated as nominations come in. Its sorted by medium and then to be alphabetical by first name. if an eu companion exists in multiple mediums i just sort of picked one or I put them under the other category, people who exist in real life are also sorted into their own category. There are some characters under Classic Who/NuWho who were not companions on TV but were in the EU. Companions who's names are in green have had propaganda submitted for them, if they're not in green then they don't, and just because someone has propaganda doesn't mean i wont accept more

If you don't mind could we hear more about the roti rewrite, I'm actually really interested in what else you'd do to rewrite revenge of the island,
Here’s a list of posts where I’ve about it! One, two, three, four, five. There’s probably more but I can’t find them right now.
I have a lot of notes from my first very incomplete draft for an episode list including:
The original teams would be properly organized by order, leading to the Radioactive Rats with Lightning, Scott, B, Molly, Dawn, Anne Maria and Staci; and the Mutant Maggots with Jo, Brick, Cameron, Zoey, Mike, Dakota, and Sam. But team swapping would be a big gimmick for the season, the contestants never knowing if a vote would en in a proper elimination or swap.
A summary for one episode based on an actual scrapped plot for the seasonI wrote also goes (way after Dakota becomes an intern) “Dakota gets sick of Chris and Chef bossing her around all the time, so she locks them up in a closet and hosts the episode for a day! Everyone has the most fun they’ve had all season, but when Chris gets out he is NOT happy about it and kicks her off the show for real this time.”
Idea where the episode which features Katie and Sadie for the gen 1 cameos, also has a themed challenge for them! The challenge is like the one in episode 21 of TDI where all the contestants have to do a number of smaller challenges together in pairs. The pairs here include Zoey and Molly, Mike and Anne Maria, Jo and Cameron, Scott and Brick, and Lightning and Sam.
I think that’s all I saw in this ask for brevity sake but feel free to send any more asks if you’re curious! This goes for any and everyone! I loved talking about my imaginary rewrite, I also have a bunch of redesigns for it I haven’t posted so...

I've got a bit more written than just this bit, but I thought I'd share and see what people think. :) Inspired by this post.
A faerie introduces himself. Then, holding out a hand, asks, “And your name, please?”
And, like a fool, you give it to him.
(You didn’t know he was a faerie at the time, how could you have? And even if you did, it’s likely you’d still have given him your name. How could you not? The rock solid fact that by doing so you have given him the same power over your soul as if you'd made a deal with the devil is almost immaterial.)
“Molly,” you say, holding out your hand and smiling (awkwardly, you always smile awkwardly when meeting people, especially devastating handsome people).
He cocks an eyebrow, tilts his head in a questioning manner. “Just…Molly?”
You blush. “N-no, of course not!” you titter, even more awkwardly. “Molly Hoo - um, Molly Anne Hooper. Originally from -”
“Nottinghamshire,” you finish together and you gape at him, wondering how he knew - and wondering also why you felt so compelled to give him your middle name as well as your last name.
You’re distracted from both questions as he takes your hand and murmurs, “Molly Anne Hooper,” as if your name has given him some clue to a mystery that intrigues him (oh how apt THAT metaphor will turn out to be!), your mind sort of…blanks out. Because his hand is cool but the feel of those long, elegant fingers clasping yours is like an instant immolation, a chemical reaction going from cold to hot in a split second.
The heat is in more than your hand, but you sternly tell both your fluttering heart and nether parts to calm down.
(They never really do.)
“Sherlock Holmes,” he replies, his lips quirking in a slight smile, as if sensing your reaction (or, you’ll muse once you know him a little better, as if deducing you to the very core).
You smile back. He retrieves his hand, smoothly turning as he removes it from your grasp, and a slight frown furrows your brow as you watch that smile vanish as quickly as it had appeared. As if he’s only put it on for politeness’ sake, and you give yourself a mental shake and tell yourself of course that’s all it was.
Why would someone as devastatingly handsome, as charismatic, as this man take more than a polite interest in you?
(Once you realize that intelligence - genius - is actually his most devastating characteristic, you berate yourself for your foolishness even more. You’re ordinary, why would someone like Sherlock Holmes take ANY notice of you?)
Mike Stamford is nattering cheerfully about his new - protege? Friend? Oh, neither, you realize as his words start to penetrate the mental fog into which you’ve fallen. A new colleague of sorts, some kind of consultant working with NSY and that dishy silver fox of a detective, Greg Lestrade. The one you crushed on right up to the very moment you looked into Sherlock Holmes’ gorgeous, blue-green eyes with those mysterious flashes of silver you later decide you must have imagined at that first introduction.
(The curls, the cheekbones, the perfect Cupid’s bow lips, at least you know all of THOSE are real. Sorry, Greg, that perfect smile and short crop of silver hair simply can’t compete.)
That never goes away, that first breathless feeling of  ‘Ohhh’ when you first looked into Sherlock Holmes’ eyes, even after he opens his mouth and proves just what a snotty, self-centered, cold-hearted bastard he can be. (Then again, once you know the real truth about him, the truth buried so far beneath his conscious mind that even he’d forgotten it, you realize he never really was as good at imitating humanity as he so vainly thought he was.)

Molly Yates (Doctor Who OC) Faceclaim?
It's possible that I might recast my Whoniverse OC.
Molly Yates is the granddaughter of Captain Mike Yates, the Third Doctor companion and former member of UNIT. She and her father, David, move to Ealing days before the Jacksons. Molly will befriend Maria and assist Sarah Jane Smith in her alien investigations. She will also have her own mystery to unravel.
I originally had chosen Emma Roberts as Molly's faceclaim. But now, I'm not sure. I've recently been thinking of Madeleine McGraw.
Emma Roberts:

Madeleine McGraw
Tumblr media
Molly should look like she could be related to either or both of these men.

Why you should still read BONE
In this video, I want to pitch Jeff Smith's classic BONE. While some might have only heard about the series to the recent cancellation of the Netflix adaptation or might only remember reading it as a kid, this video seeks to explore the value this series has with it's lack of complete adaptations.

It’s past time for Uptown Girls, almost universally panned when it first hit theaters 20 years ago, to be widely reconsidered and celebrated as a Y2K New York City fairy tale. Sure, the plot is far-fetched, and the ending in particular is wrapped up in a nice, convenient little bow, but Uptown Girls is a unique story about what young women can learn from each other.
Uptown Girls goes to darker emotional places than most other light hearted “chick flicks” of the early 2000s, and features career-best performances from Brittany Murphy and Dakota Fanning, as well as cameos from aughts superstars Mark McGrath and Nas. Uptown Girls was shot by legendary New York City cinematographer Michael Ballhaus, who has also photographed the city for heavyweights like Martin Scorsese and Mike Nichols. In his 3-star 2003 review, Roger Ebert defended the film against its haters, dismissing “all cavils about the movie’s logic and plausibility as beside the point,” asserting that “this is not a movie about plot but about personalities.” Ebert was able to see and hear Molly and Ray as vastly different, but equally emotionally complex characters, in a way that his peers were blind to at the time.
Molly’s unflagging brightness and Ray’s grim cynicism are both completely earnest reactions to having been pushed into a position where they must parent themselves throughout childhood, and into young adulthood, in Molly’s case. Molly has chosen to never grow up, postponing adulthood for as long as possible, whereas Ray grew up too fast. What makes Uptown Girls so compelling is watching Molly parent her own inner child through parenting Ray, which comes to a head in the infamous Coney Island spinning teacups scene.
While not the only contemporary critic to be positive on the film, Ebert was able to see beyond the glitzy surface, bravely standing apart in his refusal to rely on gender bias to express disapproval of a film. Maybe the most significant thing Ebert praised about Uptown Girls was its performances; specifically, he compared Murphy’s comedic talents to those of Lucille Ball. “Molly Gunn is a comic original, vulnerable and helpless, well-meaning and inept, innocent and guileless…Murphy’s performance has a kind of ineffable mischievous innocence about it.”
Indeed, one could imagine a scene in I Love Lucy where Lucy attempts to get a job at a luxury bedding store, and consequently falls asleep on one of the beds, as Molly does in Uptown Girls. Murphy’s face is pure Ball as she realizes (too late) that she’s about to get smacked in the face with a swinging door, in a moment where she needed to look particularly dignified. Thankfully, Ebert was able to recognize that an actress’ performance should not be judged solely on “likability,” but on its more palpable merits, such as comedic timing and vulnerability. Ebert was also more favorable than most critics toward Fanning’s performance. He wrote that “Ray does seem prematurely old…in the case of Dakota Fanning, I think we are looking at good acting.”
...
Uptown Girls might still not be taken seriously today by the larger community of serious film critics and historians, but the film has found its audience of lonely young women trying to find their place in the world. If you search “Uptown Girls” on social media, you’ll find a sea of girls posting about their emotional connection to the film, and of course, their love of Murphy’s performance. Some of this could very well be written off as 2000s nostalgia, but a lot of love for Uptown Girls comes from a place of deep sadness, both for the girls that we once were and the girls we could have been.
