And unlike those other platforms, Pinterest is highly visual, which makes it perfect for businesses that want to showcase their products or services.
What's more, pins on Pinterest are often linked back to websites, so if you can create compelling pins that drive traffic to your site, you can see a significant boost in website traffic. Better failure for social media
Tumblr media
Content moderation is fundamentally about making social media work better, but there are two other considerations that determine how social media fails: end-to-end (E2E), and freedom of exit. These are much neglected, and that’s a pity, because how a system fails is every bit as important as how it works.
Of course, commercial social media sites don’t want to be good, they want to be profitable. The unique dynamics of social media allow the companies to uncouple quality from profit, and more’s the pity.
Social media grows thanks to network effects — you join Twitter to hang out with the people who are there, and then other people join to hang out with you. The more users Twitter accumulates, the more users it can accumulate. But social media sites stay big thanks to high switching costs: the more you have to give up to leave a social media site, the harder it is to go:
https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2021/08/facebooks-secret-war-switching-costs
Nature bequeaths some in-built switching costs on social media, primarily the coordination problem of reaching consensus on where you and the people in your community should go next. The more friends you share a social media platform with, the higher these costs are. If you’ve ever tried to get ten friends to agree on where to go for dinner, you know how this works. Now imagine trying to get all your friends to agree on where to go for dinner, for the rest of their lives!
But these costs aren’t insurmountable. Network effects, after all, are a double-edged sword. Some users are above-average draws for others, and if a critical mass of these important nodes in the network map depart for a new service — like, say, Mastodon — that service becomes the presumptive successor to the existing giants.
When that happens — when Mastodon becomes “the place we’ll all go when Twitter finally becomes unbearable” — the downsides of network effects kick in and the double-edged sword begins to carve away at a service’s user-base. It’s one thing to argue about which restaurant we should go to tonight, it’s another to ask whether we should join our friends at the new restaurant where they’re already eating.
Social media sites who want to keep their users’ business walk a fine line: they can simply treat those users well, showing them the things they ask to see, not spying on them, paying to police their service to reduce harassment, etc. But these are costly choices: if you show users the things they ask to see, you can’t charge businesses to show them things they don’t want to see. If you don’t spy on users, you can’t sell targeting services to people who want to force them to look at things they’re uninterested in. Every moderator you pay to reduce harassment draws a salary at the expense of your shareholders, and every catastrophe that moderator prevents is a catastrophe you can’t turn into monetizable attention as gawking users flock to it.
So social media sites are always trying to optimize their mistreatment of users, mistreating them (and thus profiting from them) right up to the point where they are ready to switch, but without actually pushing them over the edge.
One way to keep dissatisfied users from leaving is by extracting a penalty from them for their disloyalty. You can lock in their data, their social relationships, or, if they’re “creators” (and disproportionately likely to be key network nodes whose defection to a rival triggers mass departures from their fans), you can take their audiences hostage.
The dominant social media firms all practice a low-grade, tacit form of hostage-taking. Facebook downranks content that links to other sites on the internet. Instagram prohibits links in posts, limiting creators to “Links in bio.” Tiktok doesn’t even allow links. All of this serves as a brake on high-follower users who seek to migrate their audiences to better platforms.
But these strategies are unstable. When a platform becomes worse for users (say, because it mandates nonconsensual surveillance and ramps up advertising), they may actively seek out other places on which to follow each other, and the creators they enjoy. When a rival platform emerges as the presumptive successor to an incumbent, users no longer face the friction of knowing which rival they should resettle to.
When platforms’ enshittification strategies overshoot this way, users flee in droves, and then it’s time for the desperate platform managers to abandon the pretense of providing a public square. Yesterday, Elon Musk’s Twitter rolled out a policy prohibiting users from posting links to rival platforms:
https://web.archive.org/web/20221218173806/https://help.twitter.com/en/rules-and-policies/social-platforms-policy
This policy was explicitly aimed at preventing users from telling each other where they could be found after they leave Twitter:
https://web.archive.org/web/20221219015355/https://twitter.com/TwitterSupport/status/1604531261791522817
This, in turn, was a response to many users posting regular messages explaining why they were leaving Twitter and how they could be found on other platforms. In particular, Twitter management was concerned with departures by high-follower users like Taylor Lorenz, who was retroactively punished for violating the policy, though it didn’t exist when she violated it:
https://deadline.com/2022/12/washington-post-journalist-taylor-lorenz-suspended-twitter-1235202034/
As Elon Musk wrote last spring: “The acid test for two competing socioeconomic systems is which side needs to build a wall to keep people from escaping? That’s the bad one!”
https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1533616384747442176
This isn’t particularly insightful. It’s obvious that any system that requires high walls and punishments to stay in business isn’t serving its users, whose presence is attributable to coercion, not fulfillment. Of course, the people who operate these systems have all manner of rationalizations for them.
The Berlin Wall, we were told, wasn’t there to keep East Germans in — rather, it was there to keep the teeming hordes clamoring to live in the workers’ paradise out. In the same way, platforms will claim that they’re not blocking outlinks or sideloading because they want to prevent users from defecting to a competitor, but rather, to protect those users from external threats.
This rationalization quickly wears thin, and then new ones step in. For example, you might claim that telling your friends that you’re leaving and asking them to meet you elsewhere is like “giv[ing] a talk for a corporation [and] promot[ing] other corporations”:
https://mobile.twitter.com/mayemusk/status/1604550452447690752
Or you might claim that it’s like “running Wendy’s ads [on] McDonalds property,” rather than turning to your friends and saying, “The food at McDonalds sucks, let’s go eat at Wendy’s instead”:
https://twitter.com/doctorow/status/1604559316237037568
The truth is that any service that won’t let you leave isn’t in the business of serving you, it’s in the business of harming you. The only reason to build a wall around your service — to impose any switching costs on users- is so that you can fuck them over without risking their departure.
The platforms want to be Anatevka, and we the villagers of Fiddler On the Roof, stuck plodding the muddy, Cossack-haunted roads by the threat of losing all our friends if we try to leave:
https://doctorow.medium.com/how-to-leave-dying-social-media-platforms-9fc550fe5abf
That’s where freedom of exit comes in. The public should have the right to leave, and companies should not be permitted to make that departure burdensome. Any burdens we permit companies to impose is an invitation to abuse of their users.
This is why governments are handing down new interoperability mandates: the EU’s Digital Markets Act forces the largest companies to offer APIs so that smaller rivals can plug into them and let users walkaway from Big Tech into new kinds of platforms — small businesses, co-ops, nonprofits, hobby sites — that treat them better. These small players are overwhelmingly part of the fediverse: the federated social media sites that allow users to connect to one another irrespective of which server or service they use.
The creators of these platforms have pledged themselves to freedom of exit. Mastodon ships with a “Move Followers” and “Move Following” feature that lets you quit one server and set up shop on another, without losing any of the accounts you follow or the accounts that follow you:
https://codingitwrong.com/2022/10/10/migrating-a-mastodon-account.html
This feature is as yet obscure, because the exodus to Mastodon is still young. Users who flocked to servers without knowing much about their managers have, by and large, not yet run into problems with the site operators. The early trickle of horror stories about petty authoritarianism from Mastodon sysops conspicuously fail to mention that if the management of a particular instance turns tyrant, you can click two links, export your whole social graph, sign up for a rival, click two more links and be back at it.
This feature will become more prominent, because there is nothing about running a Mastodon server that means that you are good at running a Mastodon server. Elon Musk isn’t an evil genius — he’s an ordinary mediocrity who lucked into a lot of power and very little accountability. Some Mastodon operators will have Musk-like tendencies that they will unleash on their users, and the difference will be that those users can click two links and move elsewhere. Bye-eee!
Freedom of exit isn’t just a matter of the human right of movement, it’s also a labor issue. Online creators constitute a serious draw for social media services. All things being equal, these services would rather coerce creators’ participation — by holding their audiences hostage — than persuade creators to remain by offering them an honest chance to ply their trade.
Platforms have a variety of strategies for chaining creators to their services: in addition to making it harder for creators to coordinate with their audiences in a mass departure, platforms can use DRM, as Audible does, to prevent creators’ customers from moving the media they purchase to a rival’s app or player.
Then there’s “freedom of reach”: platforms routinely and deceptively conflate recommending a creator’s work with showing that creator’s work to the people who explicitly asked to see it.
https://pluralistic.net/2022/12/10/e2e/#the-censors-pen
When you follow or subscribe to a feed, that is not a “signal” to be mixed into the recommendation system. It’s an order: “Show me this.” Not “Show me things like this.”
Show.
Me.
This.
But there’s no money in showing people the things they tell you they want to see. If Amazon showed shoppers the products they searched for, they couldn’t earn $31b/year on an “ad business” that fills the first six screens of results with rival products who’ve paid to be displayed over the product you’re seeking:
https://pluralistic.net/2022/11/28/enshittification/#relentless-payola
If Spotify played you the albums you searched for, it couldn’t redirect you to playlists artists have to shell out payola to be included on:
https://pluralistic.net/2022/09/12/streaming-doesnt-pay/#stunt-publishing
And if you only see what you ask for, then product managers whose KPI is whether they entice you to “discover” something else won’t get a bonus every time you fatfinger a part of your screen that navigates you away from the thing you specifically requested:
https://doctorow.medium.com/the-fatfinger-economy-7c7b3b54925c
Musk, meanwhile, has announced that you won’t see messages from the people you follow unless they pay for Twitter Blue:
https://www.wired.com/story/what-is-twitter-blue/
And also that you will be nonconsensually opted into seeing more “recommended” content from people you don’t follow (but who can be extorted out of payola for the privilege):
https://www.socialmediatoday.com/news/Twitter-Expands-Content-Recommendations/637697/
Musk sees Twitter as a publisher, not a social media site:
https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1604588904828600320
Which is why he’s so indifferent to the collateral damage from this payola/hostage scam. Yes, Twitter is a place where famous and semi-famous people talk to their audiences, but it is primarily a place where those audiences talk to each other — that is, a public square.
This is the Facebook death-spiral: charging to people to follow to reach you, and burying the things they say in a torrent of payola-funded spam. It’s the vision of someone who thinks of other people as things to use — to pump up your share price or market your goods to — not worthy of consideration.
As Terry Pratchett’s Granny Weatherwax put it: “Sin is when you treat people like things. Including yourself. That’s what sin is.”
Mastodon isn’t perfect, but its flaws are neither fatal nor permanent. The idea that centralized media is “easier” surely reflects the hundreds of billions of dollars that have been pumped into refining social media Roach Motels (“users check in, but they don’t check out”).
Until a comparable sum has been spent refining decentralized, federated services, any claims about the impossibility of making the fediverse work for mass audiences should be treated as unfalsifiable, motivated reasoning.
Meanwhile, Mastodon has gotten two things right that no other social media giant has even seriously attempted:
I. If you follow someone on Mastodon, you’ll see everything they post; and
II. If you leave a Mastodon server, you can take both your followers and the people you follow with you.
The most common criticism of Mastodon is that you must rely on individual moderators who may be underresourced, incompetent on malicious. This is indeed a serious problem, but it isn’t the same serious problem that Twitter has. When Twitter is incompetent, malicious, or underresourced, your departure comes at a dear price.
On Mastodon, your choice is: tolerate bad moderation, or click two links and move somewhere else.
On Twitter, your choice is: tolerate moderation, or lose contact with all the people you care about and all the people who care about you.
The interoperability mandates in the Digital Markets Act (and in the US ACCESS Act, which seems unlikely to get a vote in this session of Congress) only force the largest platforms to open up, but Mastodon shows us the utility of interop for smaller services, too.
There are lots of domains in which “dominance” shouldn’t be the sole criteria for whether you are expected to treat your customers fairly.
A doctor with a small practice who leaks all ten patients’ data harms those patients as surely as a hospital system with a million patients would have. A small-time wedding photographer who refuses to turn over your pictures unless you pay a surprise bill is every bit as harmful to you as a giant chain that has the same practice.
As we move into the realm of smalltime, community-oriented social media servers, we should be looking to avoid the pitfalls of the social media bubble that’s bursting around us. No matter what the size of the service, let’s ensure that it lets us leave, and respects the end-to-end principle, that any two people who want to talk to each other should be allowed to do so, without interference from the people who operate their communications infrastructure.

What Unexpected Blessings Are Headed Your Way?
What blessings do you not see coming your way and what are some messages from your spirit guides to help you better prepare for them?
As this is a general collective reading, some things may not resonate with you or your situation. DO NOT try forcing it to fit. If you would like to book a personalized reading with me go to my profile and follow the instructions on my pinned post.
If you enjoyed this reading and wanted to support me further you can do so by tipping me in the link in my bio or by booking a personal reading with me.
Tumblr media
Pile One:
Tumblr media
Who are you currently?
The Devil and Two of Swords:
You are currently at a point in your life where you have been indulging in temptations, maybe a bit too much. You are obsessed with the material world and obtaining things that you may have struggled to receive in the past. However, with the Two of Swords coming out to represent you as well, this tells me that you find yourself at a crossroads in your life currently. There is a difficult decision that needs to be made in your life and you don’t know which path to choose. One or both of these decisions may deal with your career or a hobby of some sort.
I am getting strong Libra, Sagittarius, and Pisces energy from this pile. So, some of you may have significant placements in these signs.
What is a blessing you don’t see coming into your life?
Ace of Pentacles and The Lovers:
There is a new cycle coming into your life, specifically in your career or a hobby. Now, I don’t want you to get your hopes up with The Lovers coming out. The Lovers doesn’t always mean a romantic relationship, it can signify a platonic relationship, or even just your relationship with yourself. In your case, I believe it is talking about a business partnership of some sort. Someone is coming into your life soon that will bring blessings in your career. I believe that this will be a new person because Ace’s always signify new beginnings, sometimes however they can signify a new beginning with someone you already know but, in your case, I do not believe you know this person.
Any messages or warnings from Spirit before this blessing comes into your life?
King of Pentacles, Seven of Pentacles, and Eight of Pentacles Reversed:
You may tend to rush into things and then once you get there you lose your focus, get lazy, and quit before you finish. To that, your guides are saying that you will embody the King of Pentacles energy with this blessing entering your life. You will be a whole new person with this blessing. You will be much more responsible and reliable. It is worth noting that this person that is coming into your life will help bring this side of you out, so, they may also embody some of the King of Pentacles energy too. This blessing will bring with it a great deal of abundance for you. All you need to do is be patient, which may be hard for you, especially in your current state.
Bottom of the Deck Energy:
The Moon Reversed:
The bottom of the deck tells you the underlying energy throughout this whole reading and having The Moon come out reversed tells me that most of you may be feeling quite anxious in your life or paranoid but, you are hiding this from the rest of the world. I say you are hiding this because The Moon in Tarot deals with deception and all things hidden and because when I was doing this reading I was feeling very optimistic and energetic. So, I believe that many of you are putting up this facade of optimism and excitement for your future when you are not at all feeling that way, or, many of you may have been feeling down for quite a bit now but you are starting to get out of that funk recently, and now you are starting to have much more optimism in your life.
Extended Reading (what is specifically coming and how can you prepare?)
Pile Two:
Tumblr media
Who are you currently?
Three of Water and The Star Reversed:
Pile two, you have been feeling lost and in a daze/brain fog for quite sometime now. You are normally a very sociable and joyful person who loves to hang out with people and have fun. However, something changed in your life that caused you to retreat within yourself and because of this, you have been feeling very down and anxious. Your self-image has been depleted, you no longer feel like you are worthy of anything, you think that people in your life no longer like you, and because of this, you no longer go out and have fun, instead, you stay by yourself most of the time now, preferring solitude. I was getting some major hot flashes while I was doing this reading so, many of you may also experience this or may just be a person who is always hot. Also, your guides had a lot to say during this reading so, many of you may not have been reaching out as much.
I was getting strong Virgo and Scorpio energy from this pile. So, some of you may have significant placements in these signs.
What is a blessing you don’t see coming into your life?
Seven of Air Reversed and Council of All Beings:
There is a much-needed change coming into your life soon. As I said above, I believe that many of you have been stuck in a funk for quite some time now and because of this you have not been reaching out to Spirit as much or have been ignoring their messages and warnings. Your guides may be forcing a change in your life but, this is not a bad thing. They see that you are stuck in a rut and they know that a change can be so good for you at this moment, so they are forcing it to happen. This change is going to be within you, not around you. It will bring out a more mature and kind energy within you, a loving energy that you have not felt in quite some time, if ever. This blessing is you learning how to love yourself the right way.
Any messages or warnings from Spirit before this blessing comes into your life?
Craftsman of Air, Messenger of Fire, and Ten of Air:
Your guides want you to prepare before this blessing comes in. Now that you know what it is, you can better prepare yourself by learning the proper ways to implement this loving and kind energy into your life. Make sure you are educating yourself in this time leading up to this blessing coming in because this will allow it to not only come in more quickly but also come in more seamlessly. You may be someone who wants an explanation for everything, reasons for why things are happening, just so you can understand why things are the way they are. But, your guides are telling you that it is time to let this need go. There is wisdom in your heart that is longing to be free whether you are aware of it or not. You’re on a journey to awareness beyond the self, inspired by something mysterious and beautiful that is part of you and greater than you. Let go of your need for control and open yourself up to the messages and wisdom from the universe and your guides. Learn the signs and symbols that your guides use to communicate with you so you can understand them better when they come in. You are just about ready for this blessing to come into your life but the only thing that is holding you back is you not being able to recognize when your guides are speaking to you. Start to pay attention to the synchronicities around you and slowly try and understand what your guides are trying to tell you by sending them your way.
Bottom of the Deck Energy:
Initiation Reversed:
Initiation is the card that handles the unknown, diving into the past, and going within yourself for answers. So, having it come out reversed as the bottom of the deck energy tells me that you are struggling to do all these things. You ignore your feelings as they come and do not like to remember your past because it may hurt you. However, by not dealing with the trauma you have in your past and ignoring it, you are making your present life much harder because you have so much underlying stress and triggers that your system is constantly overstimulated trying to protect you from all these things you don’t deal with. This blessing will allow you to release these things holding you back and make it so you know how to navigate these feelings as they come up. Again, however, educating yourself on how you can do this healthily is needed. If you need help doing this, make sure you reach out to a professional.
Extended Reading (what is specifically coming and how can you prepare?)
Pile Three:
Tumblr media
Who are you currently?
Page of Swords, Nine of Swords, and The Empress:
At your core, you are a very nurturing and creative person. You are someone who is constantly educating yourself, driven by your curiosity. You fully embody femininity at its finest, you are very warm, comforting, and inspiring to the people around you. However, all of this being said, you are currently in a place rippled by anxiety, worry, and guilt. You are struggling with some great internal battles. You are in a time of great emotional turmoil at the moment, which is quite different from who you are at your core, so, you may be feeling very lost and confused at the moment because of this.
There is a lot of suppressing emotions with this pile, you are not allowing yourself to feel your emotions as they come. Because of this, I am getting strong Capricorn energy with this pile, specifically Capricorn Moons. This does not mean that everyone who chose this pile has to have these placements. If you were drawn to this pile then it is meant for you.
I am also getting a strong reserve of energy with this pile. It’s almost like you are currently blinded right now and not seeing your life for what it is, however, you may not be aware of this.
There is a lot of contradicting energy with this pile and contradicting emotions. There may also be some fear of change or even a fear of allowing yourself to feel, with this pile.
Many of you could be or have significant Capricorn, Aquarius, or Gemini placements.
What is a blessing you don’t see coming into your life?
Two of Pentacles, Ten of Wands, and The Hermit:
You have been stretching yourself thin for quite some time now and because of this, you are on the brink of burnout. You are at a significant crossroads right now, one path (the one you’re on) leads you to burnout and a very dark place, and the other path (the path your guides want you to take) leads you to a place of rest and rejuvenation. This blessing coming your way is your guides forcing you to take the other path. They know the outcome of the path you are on right now, so they are going to force you to deter. This blessing will force you into solitude, and force you to seek answers from within. It will force you to do some self-reflection, asking yourself who you really are, and who you have been acting like. How do you bring yourself out of these bad habits, and allow yourself to feel again? This solitude will bring along with it much-needed balance in your life that will lead you back to your true self.
Any messages or warnings from Spirit before this blessing comes into your life?
Ten of Swords, The World, and Nine of Pentacles:
Your guide’s message to you here is exactly what I said above. You are currently on a path that leads to a dead end, a destination that is nothing but despair. They are urging you desperately to make this blessing they are sending your way come in seamlessly. Don’t fight this change that's coming in, it is a blessing, but since you fear change your automatic reaction to this change will be to reject it, however, they do not want you to do this. Know that by accepting this blessing into your life, you will be allowing a completion to the cycle of constant suppression of emotions and the cycle of negativity that comes along with that. The journey to a pure self, a self-set on a solid foundation, and one who lives in a healthy mindset is long and very very unpleasant. It brings up a lot of suppressed and long-forgotten emotions and memories. But, this has to happen for you to build a better foundation to live on. As long as you can remember, the foundation you have lived on has been made up of the negative memories and emotions that are going to come up as you start to change, as you start to heal. Do not give up, the negative things have to come up for you to get rid of them and replace them with good. Whether that be them leaving completely, or just reconditioning your brain to view them in a different, more positive light. Either way, your guide's message here is to not fear this blessing, don’t reject it as it comes in, and don’t quit along the journey, for the destination is one of great success and self-sufficiency.
Bottom of the Deck Energy:
Page of Pentacles:
You are at your core, a star student, someone who is consistent in their path to true discovery. However, the negative place you have lived in for some time now has clouded this side of you. Your guides want you to know this side of you is not gone forever, it is simply suppressed. All you need to do is listen to their advice and you will find this side of yourself again, for it has always been there.

How can I make $1,000 through affiliate marketing?
Hi,
Making $1,000 through affiliate marketing requires a strategic approach and consistent effort. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you achieve this goal:
Choose a Niche: Identify a niche that aligns with your interests and has a target audience. This helps you create content that resonates with your audience.
Research Affiliate Programs: Look for reputable affiliate programs within your chosen niche. Consider factors such as commission rates, product quality, and the program's reputation.
Build an Online Presence: Establish a platform where you can share content related to your niche. This could be a blog, YouTube channel, podcast, or social media profile.
Create High-Quality Content: Develop valuable, engaging content that provides solutions or information to your audience. Incorporate your affiliate links naturally within the content.
Use Multiple Marketing Channels: Diversify your reach by utilizing different marketing channels. If you're blogging, engage in social media promotion, email marketing, or even consider paid advertising to expand your audience.
Build Trust with Your Audience: Establish trust by being transparent about your affiliate partnerships. Only promote products or services you genuinely believe in and that provide value to your audience.
Optimize for SEO: Implement search engine optimization (SEO) strategies to improve the visibility of your content. Research and incorporate relevant keywords to attract organic traffic.
Create Compelling Calls-to-Action: Encourage your audience to take action by creating compelling calls-to-action. Clearly explain the benefits of the products or services you're promoting.
Track and Analyze Performance: Use tracking tools provided by affiliate programs to monitor the performance of your affiliate links. Analyze the data to understand which strategies are most effective.
Scale Your Efforts: As you start earning commissions, reinvest in your affiliate marketing venture. Consider scaling up your efforts by creating more content, exploring additional affiliate programs, or investing in advanced marketing strategies.
Stay Consistent: Consistency is key in affiliate marketing. Regularly update your content, engage with your audience, and adapt your strategies based on the performance data.
Explore Advanced Techniques: Once you have a solid foundation, explore advanced techniques such as funnel optimization, split testing, and advanced marketing strategies to further increase your earnings.
Remember that success in affiliate marketing takes time and persistence. Be patient, adapt to changes in the market, and continuously refine your approach based on the feedback and data you receive. With dedication and the right strategies, reaching $1,000 in affiliate marketing earnings is an achievable goal.

Hello! Any tips for starting your own ig blog?
Hi love! Some tips are below:
Consider whether you're crafting a personal brand, professional image, aesthetic, or e-commerce/product-focused account
Choose your handle name wisely. Always do your first name/last name or name of your business when applicable
Add relevant search terms to your headline/bio to make your page more easily discoverable to your intended audience. Hashtags can also be added to this section for discoverability
Select a bio image that best speaks to your personal/brand personality. Keep it polished but approachable like a well-executed mirror selfie, professional editorial photo, or your brand's logo
Craft a clear, compelling, and comprehensive bio that makes it simple to understand who you are/the purpose of your page while still showcasing your personal/brand personality. Include a CTA link (to your website, TikTok, Pinterest, press mention, etc.) or use a LinkTree link for more comprehensive accessibility
Decide on your blog purpose/themes covered, USP, key messages, content pillars, and brand voice/image guidelines (content/colors) before posting
Use the same/coordinating filters on all your photos, and try your best to have an aesthetically pleasing feed, so it looks very editorial and professional when people are debating whether to follow
Ensure your captions are engaging, and conversational. Follow a uniform brand voice/personality. However, you don't want your content to look overly edited and distant. Try to find the right balance between polished and relatable. Use the carousel feature liberally and relevant hashtags to optimize SEO value and discoverability
Utilize Instagram stories to provide an insider look at day-to-day happenings, share inspiration, engage in friendly/conversational dialogue with your audience, and promote engagement through polls, Q&As, etc.
Curate some highlights that best speak to your brand pillars/USP with uniform icon covers. Design them with a tool like Canva for a personal touch
Hope this helps xx

Task Force 141 Age Guesstimates (WITH sources)
TL;DR
Price is the oldest at around 38
Ghost is a close second at around 36
Soap and Gaz are roughly 25-27
↓ All information on how the fuck I got to those numbers below ↓
Ignore the fact that the bio's in-game are absolute trash. For some reason, I cannot access anything past the random cut-offs.
Oh, the info after the in-game screenshot but before the verdict is legit random other info that I found. More specifically actor's age and previous game info if it isn't clear with the current info we have. That you can choose to make your own decisions if you want to ignore my verdicts!
Price: Easy start. His page says 1985.
But his current in-game bio says the exact same info as this Activision link that's from 2019. So I'm assuming they just haven't updated it from 2019, since it would cut 3 years off his age.
Tumblr media
Barry Sloane is 41 (1981) No previous canonical birthyear and I didn't go actively searching for much more information
Verdict: Pretty solid 1985 for the dilf.
Gaz: We already have conflicting information; on his page, it says he was born in 1990, yet the timeline says he was born in 1996, neither of which has a proper source. So he would be turning anywhere from 27-33 this year. He joined in 2008 (according to his page and in-game bio shown), needing to be at least 16, so technically the youngest possible is 1992.
But, the same source from Activision that I used for Price says he joined in 2014, if he enlisted at 16, would make him a 1998 baby. Which directly opposes his current bio, which, as said previously, states that he joined in 2008.
I am settling on Activision's ORIGINAL bio being canon, as his in-game bio says he joined in 2008 and at the end of the paragraph says "rounding out a decade in service" which would only bring him to 2018, which would be 4 years prior to the Release of MW2 2022. Whereas 2014 would be near his decade in service next year. It makes more sense to round 1 year under vs 4 years+ over.
Tumblr media
Elliot Knight is 32 (1990; probably the cause of his birthyear is listed as 1990) No previous canonical birthyear and I didn't go actively searching for much more information.
Considering Price is only turning 38, I personally prefer scrapping the 1990-1992 date for optimal father-son dynamic.
Verdict: 1996-1998, he'll be turning 25-27 this year.
Soap: This boy's gonna be a doozie.
According to his official page, he was born in 1996 or earlier. It also said that he tried joining the SAS at 16, but was caught that he was too young; which directly contradicts his current in-game bio, which says that he lied about his age and got in.
Considering the information on his page doesn't have any source linking back to it, we will consider he joined the SAS at 16 (which is wild and would have to make him forge a birth certificate) So if we take 2014 (keep in mind I have no clue where they whipped that year out of) minus 16, makes his birth year potentially 1998.
Tumblr media
Neil Ellice is clearly ageless as his age isn't listed anywhere online. Previous canonical information hints that he is younger than Gaz, as Gaz had already completed Selection when he joined. According to the old MW timeline, he was born in 1980 (no sources listed) making him 31-36 during the original MW.
Considering the position and name change (all new information is Johnny, not John) I'm just going to discard that information though.
Also, he canonically punched a cop. not important, but I feel like people should know.
Verdict: Legit the only information (even if it's contradicted) we get is <1996 or 1998, so I've gotta go with that. Turning 25-27+ this year. Roughly the same age as Gaz.
more info on why I picked the younger range is in Ghost's info.
Ghost: I struggled with Soap, now onto the one with ~redacted~ information
His current in-game bio cuts off before any actual dates or anything is said. Literally "Ghost lives with a redacted past and an..."
The wiki bio is equally as uneventful, giving us no information about him joining the military or his childhood. At least it wasn't full of information from before the reboot.
Al Mazrah is his first mention in the Reboot timeline, he's not even listed in the section pertaining to Ghobrani's assassination.
So I'm going to be pulling information out of the army straight up. FBI agent watching this, I fucking hate the military IRL <3 If I get one email or text asking to join I'm gonna waste your time asking 2000 questions.
The average age of the UK military is 30 a paid account is required to see the graph, but the information is listed just under it, meaning an officer would probably be above the average.
According to the UK Army, after joining it takes about 20 years to reach Lieutenant. If he joined at 16, he would be ~36y/o, add 2-3 years to go from Lieutenant to Captain, and you've got Price's age.
(~12 years of Service for Sergeants, which makes Soap & Gaz's mid-20s work, especially with them being really fucking good. ~23 years to become a Captain, which again roughly fits with Price being a young Officer)
Tumblr media
Samuel Roukin is 42 (1980) this man looks too good for his age omg. The only canonical age-related thing is that he joined the military after 9/11. If we assume he was 16 at joining, it would make him born in 1985. Which fits with the mid-30s right now, but would place him mid-20s in the original timeline.
Verdict: ~1987, making him mid-30s. Younger if you want to make him match the quick rank-ups of the rest of the 141.

all’s faire - chapter two
Tumblr media
Pairing: Modern!Pero Tovar x F!Reader
Series rating: M
Chapter rating: M
Word count: 4,005
Notes: Chapter two! These two are still very much in the enemies stage of their relationship but there are developments made in this chapter. Thank you to everyone who’s shown their enthusiasm for this fic, especially @lowlights and to @ezrasbirdie for reading it over. I’m no longer putting “outside” links (AO3/taglist form) in my fics but they can be found in my bio and on my masterlist. I hope you all enjoy this chapter!
Comments/reblogs appreciated.
Chapter warnings: Swearing, enemies to lovers, medication mention, injury mention, tension, sex mention
previous chapter || next chapter || masterlist (main) || masterlist (pero tovar)
A few, Pero Tovar thought-free, days later, your phone pings with an email notification. Most of your emails these days are shipping confirmations for books you’d preordered months ago. So you are surprised when an email from Pero Tovar pops up on your lock screen.
Ugh. You’d been having a good day up until now. What did he want with you? A partner to kick some puppies? Someone to yell at sweet old ladies with?
The subject line is Medieval Faire. And, clicking it open, you see it’s addressed to a number of people.
This note is to inform you that you have been accepted into the cast of the fifth annual summer medieval faire. Rehearsals for everyone are weekly and begin on June 4 at 8am at Lockwood Falls High School in the gymnasium. Do NOT be late. Please find your name and role from the list below. If anyone has any questions, do not hesitate to email me or Will Ballard.
P. Tovar.
That’s got to be the most joyless “you got the job” email you think you’ve ever seen. Sure, it’s to the point, but can he not use some enthusiasm for once? You see your name below Cassie’s — role, tavern wench. Below your name is Sarah’s, also a tavern wench. And that’s it for the tavern by the looks of things. Unless there’s others that have yet to be confirmed. Or maybe there’s volunteers? Two people seems to be not enough to serve drinks to all the customers that will make their way through. Even on slow nights at the pub you used to work at, you never had fewer than four staff on.
There’s a number of volunteers at the bottom of the list, so hopefully some of them are allotted to you and Sarah because otherwise it’s going to feel a lot more like work than Sarah and Cassie both said it would feel like.
You read over the email again, certain the warning against lateness is directed at you. Asshole. At least your niece got in. That’s the important part, that she has fun.
Getting up from the couch where you had been looking at job postings in a purely hypothetical manner (more for when Tess is more mobile and back on her feet), you check on dinner that’s cooking in the slow cooker — mac and cheese — before looking at your phone for the time; you still have fifteen minutes before having to go pick up Tess at her physical therapy appointment. You’ve prepared a nest for your sister on her bed for optimal comfort — Percocet and water bottle at the ready on her night table in case she needs it.
Cassie’s due back from school at around the same time that you and Tess will be getting back from her physical therapy appointment. Since it’s almost the end of the school year, it’s crunch time for Cassie. Studying for finals, final assignments, all the fun stuff about school that you absolutely do not miss. Cassie’s a good student, though, on top of everything. You don’t know where she gets it from. Neither you nor Tess were ever ahead of schedule in school, so Cassie must come by it naturally.
You’re not looking forward to a solid two and a half months of early weekend morning wakeups. Weekends are your sleep-in mornings. Where you roll out of bed at nine a.m. or later. To be honest, you’re surprised that a teenager is doing this willingly. But Cassie tells you it’s worth it. You’ll see about that.
The alarm on your phone goes off, indicating that it’s time to go pick up Tess. It’s her third physical therapy appointment; it’s been kicking her ass, but in a good way. The therapist is optimistic for a full recovery; your sister was lucky, he said. The break had been clean.
You drive across the town that you grew up in, the town you never thought you’d relocate to again. Not much has changed in the years since you left, for what you thought was for good. The only difference is that your parents had retired to Florida five years ago.
Tess is sitting down in the waiting room when you arrive, a slightly pained expression on her face, mixed with utter exhaustion.
“How’d it go?” you ask as you help her to your car. She grimaces as she buckles herself in.
“Painful. I’ll be glad when I don’t have to come here anymore.” Tess yawns.
“Did the doc give a timeline for when the boot can come off?” Your sister’s been chomping at the bit for the removal of the boot cast since it was first put on.
Tess shakes her head. “No. Not really.” She sighs. “I don’t think they want to get my hopes up with a false promise.”
It’s a mostly quiet car ride home; Tess is too worn out to contribute much to the conversation. “I got the part of bar wench,” you tell her. “Cassie’s wonderful and totally not grumpy teacher emailed me today.”
Tess manages a smile; you’d told her all about Pero Tovar, both after the interview and after the information meeting. Both tirades had been punctuated with huffy sighs and rolled eyes and over exaggerated hand gestures, all on your part. Tess had just sat there, bemused by your passionate feelings towards Cassie’s history teacher. “Don’t contain your enthusiasm for my benefit,” Tess quips. “Try to keep some for Cassie, though.”
You roll your eyes as you turn onto your street. “He’s just so…” You pause, thinking for the right word.
“Cantankerous? Annoying? Rude? Grumpy? Peevish? Assaholic? Another word that you didn’t use the last time you talked about him?” Tess offers with a smirk.
Pulling into the driveway, you offer her a withering glance as you put the car in park. “Very funny.”
Cassie is just unlocking the door as you arrive, the timing could not be better. She turns to you with a grin. “Did you get the email from Mr. Tovar?!” she squeals. “We got in! And I’m a lady-in-waiting to Mrs. Garin!”
You have to pause to remember who that is, a lot of new names and faces swirling in your mind. She comes to you; Mrs. Garin is the petite woman with long dark hair that Pero had talked to at the end of the information session. She’s playing the queen if you remember correctly. You think her name is Lin-Mae. “I did. Pretty exciting isn’t it, kid?”
Cassie nods, her beam still plastered to her face. As always, her enthusiasm is contagious. You have to remember why you’re doing this. For her. “Can we watch Snow White and the Huntsman tonight?” An odd topic change if ever there was one. “Or maybe some episodes of Downton Abbey? Mr. Ballard and Mr. Tovar said we have to practice our accents.”
Tess jumps in. “What about your homework? Any assignments left to do?”
Cassie shakes her head. “Nope. I handed in the last one today. I have to prep for a history presentation but that isn’t until Monday.” She looks a little nervous, recalling what you told her about what Tovar said and you have another flare of annoyance at him that you try to hide.
“Don’t worry about that. I’ll make sure you have it down pat. Your mom and I will be your practice audience,” you reassure her. “But for tonight, mac and cheese and Downton Abbey. On one condition: we watch the Robin Hood movie with Russell Crowe as part of our research. It’s close to the time period we’re recreating.”
Cassie tries to hide a smirk. “You mean, the one with Oscar Isaac?”
Busted.
- - - -
On Saturday at stupid o’clock, you pull yourself out of bed after pressing snooze as many times as possible without being late. For some ungodly reason, Cassie is bright eyed and bushy tailed when she meets you downstairs in the kitchen. Tess is still asleep.
“I think we’re choosing our faire names today,” she says. You yawn again before grunting an unintelligible answer, your motions done by rote.
Once you’ve had your first coffee, you’re more awake — or at least more willing to pretend you’re awake. You make another one for the road, topping up your tall travel mug. For the first time in a very long while, perhaps ever, you and Cassie are the first to arrive besides Pero and Will Ballard.
Pero shoots you a look of incredulity. You return it with a questioning glare of your own, as if to say “what?”
People begin to file in, a slow trickle at first and then a flood of them. It’s a smaller group than last time, since not everyone made the cut. Given how Pero seems to think you can do no right, you’re surprised you made the cut.
He calls for attention at precisely 7:59:59 a.m. “Let us not waste time in retreading old ground. You all know who Will and Lin and I are and who we are playing. Let us instead go around the room. Introduce yourself using your real name, your chosen Faire name, and your Faire role.” He nods at Sarah to start.
“All right, hi everyone. I’m Sarah Bradford. Most of you know me already. I’ve been with the Faire since the beginning. As always, if you want to find me, I’ll be in the tavern serving drinks as Matilda.”
Will Ballard nods a welcome back to her. Pero just gives a curt nod in approval. It’s clearly old hat for the two of them at this point; Sarah — Matilda, rather — isn’t introducing herself for Pero’s sake, except perhaps to confirm that she’s using the same name for Faire as she always has.
You look down at the list of names clutched in your fingers as you listen absently to the others introducing themselves, first with their real names and then their Faire names. Cassie speaks beside you. “I’m Cassie Miller. Um, this is my first year in Faire —”
“Could you speak up a little bit?” asks Pero, not unkindly.
Cassie nods. “And I’m a lady-in-waiting to her Majesty. And I was wondering if my name could be Clara?”
“I don’t see why not,” Pero agrees.
There’s a long pause and then you realize it’s your turn. “Oh. Hi.” You introduce yourself with a smile that has too many teeth, giving a wave that looks ridiculous. Sarah, already a good friend, gives a wave back. “Ummm. This is my first year doing this. I’m going to be a tavern wench with Sarah.”
“Matilda,” corrects Pero as if you’re stupid.
“Right, yes. Matilda. Sorry.”
If Pero stares at you any harder, he’s going to burn a hole in your forehead. “And what’s your name, my dear?” he asks, the use of my dear almost mocking; you ignore it. You say your name and Pero sighs in frustration. “No. Not your real name, your Faire name.”
“Oh, right.” You almost feel small in his presence. Looking down at the list of names to buy yourself a few seconds of time, you say the first one that crosses your field of vision. It’s a variation of your real name. Sarah hides a grin. Pero repeats it, almost disbelievingly, his voice flat. You can practically feel the tension in the room, all the fun sucked out as soon as he makes clear his disapproval.
“Yes,” you say, with more confidence than you feel. “It’s period appropriate and I’ll be sure to remember it and respond to it.”
There’s another eye-roll from Pero. “Glad to see you’ve given a lot of thought and effort,” he drawls flatly. You open your mouth to retort, but he’s moved on to the person standing next to you, evident that you aren’t worth his time or energy.
Once everyone’s introduced themselves, you make your way over to Sarah, Cassie finding her friends. “Hey,” she says, your Faire name said teasingly. But her expression changes from teasing to one of concern when she sees your grimace. “What is it? Is it Pero again? Don’t listen to him; your Faire name is perfectly fine. He’s just a killjoy,” she says this part loud enough for him to hear. He pauses for a moment as everyone sits down on the mats on the floor for him to give his first accuracy lesson, but makes no other indication that he’s heard. As you sit down on a mat next to Sarah, he shoots you a glance that you miss but Sarah does not. She meets his gaze with a questioning one of her own as if to say “what’s up with you?”
- - - -
The next few weeks are a crash course in medieval history. It’s all old information, given that history — specifically medieval — was your minor in college. So what if you scrolled on your phone, making arrangements and putting Tess’s appointment times into your calendar while Pero or Will Ballard discussed something that you had written papers and exams on? It doesn’t matter. No one’s going to quiz you while you’re serving them drinks.
Your accent is more on the side of Eliza Doolittle than Lady Mary Crawley. But it works. And it’s as good as it’s going to get. You and Cassie and Sarah have full conversations using your Faire names in your accents to keep up the routine of it.
After week four of mostly irrelevant-to-you history lessons, it’s time for costume fitting. Sarah brings a bundle of what look like bedsheets. You lift an eyebrow. “I thought I gave you my measurements?” you ask.
“You did. Just wait until I lace it all together. You’re going to look great. Wine red or blue?” she asks.
You look at the colourful fabric. “Ummm… Wine red, I guess.”
“Excellent choice.” Her own dress is green. Across the way, you see Cassie with the other nobility cast members; Lin-Mae is helping her into her own dress, a periwinkle thing. You put on the pieces of fabric as Sarah instructs you to. You’re still swimming in them when you’ve put on all of them. “Now comes the fun part. I would say you’ll get used to it, but, well…” She tugs on the laces.
“Jesus, Sarah!” you grumble.
“Who’s Sarah?” she asks.
Right. You’re supposed to be using the Faire names. “Sorry. Matilda.”
Just as the dress is starting to have some shape to it, Pero Tovar chooses that moment to come inspect things.
“How are things over here?” he asks.
“Just peachy,” you say under your breath.
He inspects you for a long moment, looking for any defect or thing out of place. Instead of feeling like a bug under a microscope this time around, you defiantly look right back at him. Checking him for any defect or out-of-place thing. He’s let his hair grow a bit, his beard more defined than it had been when you first met him.
Usually he’s so well put together, but today he looks like he just rolled out of bed. You lift an eyebrow at his slovenly appearance. But, much to your chagrin, he’s still handsome as ever, even when he’s looking more like a slob than you thought you would ever see. You know part of the appearance is for his role of Captain Bastian. You wonder if he and the person playing Gideon are doing more practice after this.
“Everything’s finalized?” he asks.
Sarah confirms that it is. “Yep. Matilda’s been my Faire name for five years, I’m not changing it now. William gave it to me.”
The ghost of a smile quirks on Pero’s face; it’s the closest thing you’ve seen to a real smile on him. You find you want to see what a true-blue smile looks like coming from Pero Tovar. You’re sure, though you don’t know why, it would be like the sun coming out on a cloudy day. Jeez. Where did that come from? you ask yourself.  “I know he did,” Pero murmurs. He turns to you, his imitation of a smile gone by the time he’s facing you. “And you?”
Trying to catch your breath but quickly realizing that it will be fighting a losing battle when wearing this getup so tightly, you say, “Yeah, everything’s fine.”
He gives you another quick once-over. You can’t tell if he likes you in the dress or not. “Still keeping the name?” he asks, still inexplicably annoyed at your name selection.
“Yep,” you intone dryly, not bothering to hide your annoyance at his own annoyance; when Sarah and the others had mentioned the name, it had been in a fun, teasing, ribbing kind of way. Pero just sounds as he always does with you. Annoyed. To your surprise, though perhaps it shouldn’t be given who he is, Pero practically snarls at you.
“Come with me. I need to talk to you,” he spits before turning on his heel and quite literally storming out of the auditorium.
“What is your problem?” you ask once you’ve reached an alcove for privacy. “You’re more tightly laced than I am and I’m the one wearing a corset.”
Pero actually rolls his eyes. “Are you taking any of this seriously at all?” he demands.
“What?” you ask. “Of course I—”
“It does not seem that way to me. You clearly don’t give a shit about any of this. From the name you chose to your attitude to the way you don’t pay any attention. You spend more time scrolling your phone than listening.”
“Okay, listen,” you manage to cut in. “I don’t know what your deal is, but you’ve been making me feel very unwelcome from the very fucking beginning. It’s just a name, okay? I know it’s not the most creative, I know that. But it’s period, I know it, I’m going to respond to it. Do you know where I currently live?” You don’t give him the time to respond, not even knowing why you’re going to tell him all this. “I live in my sister’s guest room. Everything I do these days is either for my sister or my niece. I’m on-call all the time, ready at the drop of a hat. That’s why I’m on my phone all the fucking time, so I can make sure my schedule is clear to do this, making sure that I have all her doctor’s appointments and physical therapy time in my calendar because guess who’s the chauffeur for the time being? Me.” You’re not complaining, you’d do anything for your sister and her daughter, but Pero doesn’t understand just how thinly stretched you are sometimes. “I know all this shit already, backwards and forwards. Because guess what? Not only am I here every fucking weekend on time, but medieval studies was my minor in college. I’m doing this as a way to support my niece who is having the time of her life doing this, so she can get her mind off worrying about her mom, because she’s passionate about this and I want to foster that passion even if it means giving up my weekends to do this and having to deal with you and your grouchy ass; I’m doing this to give Tess some space while she heals so we’re not always on top of each other — it isn’t a big house. I don’t know what your problem is with me, or why you seem to want me to quit, but I’m not going to, so you can give up your little crusade against me. If Cassie stays, then so do I. My internal organs are currently in a death grip in this getup and will be for six weeks. If none of what I just told you  indicates that I’m taking this seriously I don’t know what else to tell you. And another thing; if I go, you’re down half your barmaids. So I’m actually doing Sarah and you a favour by not dropppng out, even when you make it so fucking tempting.” You fix Pero’s hard glare with one of your own, refusing to break eye contact. You mean business, refusing to be cowed by this man. If he doesn’t respect you, you’re going to damn well make him.
Pero’s eyes flare and he holds your gaze for a long minute in a staring contest, a game of  chicken, both of you unwilling to be the first one to flinch. Eventually, though, after a long minute of staring at each other, his jaw set and his brow furrowed, Pero is the first one to look away; your diatribe seems to have set in and his face softens, softer than you’ve ever seen it before and likely softer than you’ll see it again.
“Family is important,” he murmurs, his voice softer than you’ve ever heard it before, softer than you’ll likely hear it again. He has a faraway look on his face for a second before he remembers where he is. “It’s fine; you’re fine,” he says. It isn’t quite the ringing approval that you were half-expecting, but from Pero it’s practically high praise. And then he says the second most shocking thing all day. “I’m sorry.”
Wait, what? You blink, not quite believing your ears. Surely you’ve stepped into Wonderland if you’re hearing Pero Tovar apologize. “What?” you sputter.
Pero sighs, his jaw setting again. This is clearly a difficult topic of discussion for Pero. “This time of year is hard for me. Especially this year because…” He sighs again, changing his mind. “It doesn’t matter. But it is not fair that I have been taking it out on you.”
“No, it isn’t fair,” you can’t help but say, almost reproachfully. “But I appreciate you saying it. Thank you.”
He gives you one last lingering look, a look you can’t quite put your finger on, and then he lets you go in a shared baffled silence. Sarah shoots you a questioning glance as you return to the auditorium, but you don’t say anything pertaining to your, quite frankly, bizarre interaction with Pero just now.
“Is he always like that?” you ask Sarah as she unlaces your dress enough for you to slip out of it, leaving you in your casual street clothes underneath; you neatly fold the bedsheet that is a dress and tuck it into your bag. “So uptight and intense?”
Sarah shrugs. “He’s always been intense, but you seem to bring it out in him.”
“Tovar just needs to get laid,” says a tall, burly guy coming up next to you. Dan, you think his name is. He’s playing Gideon, the lawman who is Tovar’s enemy in the context of the Faire. You snort at his assessment. “It’s true, the man’s practically been living like a monk for the past four years. And no, Daisy doesn’t count; they lasted all of five minutes,” he says when Sarah opens her mouth to protest. “He just needs to get laid,” he repeats, “might let out some of that pent up tension he’s got.”
Sarah pouts. “You guys need to be nicer to Pero,” she says, more to Dan than you. “You know it’s hard on him. He hasn’t been the same since William’s been gone.”
You don’t know who this William is, or why he left, but whoever he is, he’s clearly important to the bunch of them. Though you fail to see what his leaving town has to do with anything.
“I promise, Pero will grow on you. Just give him time and get to know him and you’ll see, he’s just a big softie,” Sarah assures you again.
You suppose you’re just going to have to take her word for it, even if Dan doesn’t seem to share her conviction. As you glance in Pero’s direction, you see that he’s chatting with a couple of other cast mates. You don’t know what troubles you more: the fact that he doesn’t deem you worthy to share his friendship with, or that it bothers you as much as it does.

What is this blog?
This is an ask blog for personifications of Canadian cities Edmonton and Calgary as well as a handful of their friends around the province. See brief bios below!
Please check the desktop/browser version of this blog for a more detailed vision, FAQ, and Story links among others. You're welcome to use my characters in your own works, please tag me so I can see!
My main blog is @allbeendonebefore. I go by Hapo (she/they) and I am running this blog primarily from Treaty 6 Territory (Edmonton). My background is primarily in classics, information and museum studies; I am not a historian, but I do have historical training and interest.
Ask Status: Closed! (temporarily)
There is currently (Mar. 2024) a backlog of 11 asks, please be patient for answers :) Sometimes I will answer an ask right away or sit on it for months, I don’t necessarily answer them in the order I receive them.
Asks without a recipient will generally be directed towards Ed and/or Cal; you can also ask me directly! Please be respectful when asking questions, especially around politically or historically sensitive issues.
I will be closing asks in December due to travel and to give me some catch up time and open them again sometime in 2024.

Characters below!
Main Characters
Edmonton | Edward Murphy Masterpost | Bio | Relationships | Trivia | Notes Begrudging capital of the province and self-proclaimed black sheep, Ed represents an eclectic mix of blue collar oil culture and government service. When he’s not trying to escape the gravitational pull of 1980′s nostalgia for Gretzky and The Mall or snarking his way through question period at the legislature, Ed enjoys partying hard at festivals and long bike rides in the river valley.
Calgary | Calvin McCall Masterpost | Bio | Relationships | Trivia | Notes Largest city in the province and fourth nationally, Calvin’s youthful energy and optimism is tempered by a conservative streak and a preoccupation with being taken seriously as a major city at home and abroad. He is most famous for his annual Stampede celebrating the romantic wild west... contrary to his actual upbringing in the mild west!
Red Deer | Elaine Hartley Bio | Relationships | Trivia | Notes The city halfway between the provincial powerhouses, Red is either fuelling up vehicles, people, or both at once in Gasoline Alley. Maybe if people stuck around after emptying their bladders or filling their stomachs, they’d discover she has more to offer than her delicious home cooking!
Lethbridge | Lilith Sheran Bio | Relationships | Trivia | Notes The former financial hub of the province and former American whisky fort, Lilith has transitioned from a gritty coal mining past to the laid back lifestyle of a university city. Although she is one of Canada’s windiest cities, she rarely has a hair out of place.
Fort McMurray | Reginald “Mac” Buffalo Bio | Relationships | Trivia | Notes An isolated hamlet at the heart of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo and the Athabasca tar sands, Mac is a tough, working class rig pig. Behind his massive pick up truck, corded muscles and defensive nature is a shy guy (and a big fluffy Newfoundland/husky mix dog, Patches).
Medicine Hat | Madeline Hargrave Bio | Relationships | Trivia | Notes A sleepy retirement community and overall ray of sunshine, Madeline usually takes a back seat in the provincial conversations and prefers to work on her own projects. Famously referred to as having “all hell for a basement”, Madeline’s wealth in natural gas and electricity continues to light her way.
Grande Prairie | Josephine Cardinal Bio | Relationships | Trivia | Notes A fast growing industrial city, Josephine’s hot temper and no-nonsense attitude occasionally conflicts with her romantic perception of herself. She is very proud of being a northern city with a surprising number of amenities and is more than happy to share with her neighbours.
Banff | Eleanor Crandell Bio | Relationships | Trivia | Notes An internationally famous mountain resort town, Eleanor is usually busy hosting and entertaining visitors from abroad (as well as Calvin every weekend). When not attending to guests, she is as down for skiing and wilderness hikes as she is for the buzzing shopping and nightlife scene.
Jasper | Jasper Swift Bio | Relationships | Trivia | Notes A former fur trading post turned heart of a national park, Jas tends to be a little more laid back than their counterpart in Banff but no less popular. A little quieter and wilder, Jasper’s claim to fame is their cozy cabin culture and annual Dark Sky festival.
Other Municipalities
Strathcona | Edith Garneau: Former municipality representing Edmonton’s south side and the University of Alberta campus, Edith is typically found inhaling copious amounts of cuisine on Whyte Ave or rehearsing for Fringe Fest when not plotting the downfall of the government.
Bowness | Caroline Cochrane: Former municipality representing Calgary’s northwest, Caroline represents what used to be a popular recreational spot for day-tripping Calgarians during the early 20th century. These days, she is usually trying to organize community fundraisers with themes beyond “western”.
---
St. Paul | Paula: Small town originally founded as a Metis settlement, Paula’s current major attraction is the centennial UFO landing pad (with accompanying UFO Hotline, naturally.)
Vulcan | ? : Small town originally named for the Roman god of the forge, now capitalizing on their reputation as Star Trek Capital of Canada for obvious reasons.
Drumheller | ? : Small town in the Alberta badlands famous the world over for fantastic fossil finds, many of which are housed at the nearby Royal Tyrell Museum.
Cardston | Orson Card: Small town founded around one of the most northern locations of Mormon Temples in North America. Orson is a polite and sincere (if unsettlingly so) fellow who helped build southern Alberta’s irrigation system.
Sherwood Park | Marion Clover: A bedroom community east of Edmonton and one of the largest population centres in the province despite technically being a hamlet. Marion is a refined lady (pun intended) that supervises one of Western Canada’s biggest industrial zones.
---
Missing a character? While my goal is not to personify every municipality in the province, I will occasionally reference others. Keep your eyes peeled!
