Hi! I saw your post about the blue curtain thing and I was wondering what was wrong with their interpretation. I haven't taken an english/lit class in years so a lot of it has slipped my mind, and the way they explained it seemed to make sense to me (especially because I tend to intentionally do something similar for imagery in my own writing).
I just posted a pretty long explainer a second ago about this because obviously I was being flippant when I posted the original screenshot, but basically: there's nothing inherently wrong with using an author's biographical details to inform an interpretation of a piece of literature. Death of the Author is something else entirely. Some people who have never read Barthes' original essay and have maybe only heard the phrase or concept seem to think that Death of the Author is a methodology in which you ignore the author's life in favor of your "own interpretation," which is somehow always right. This could not be more wrong. But to step back, let's talk about why that original post was limiting to the practice and art of criticism (I'm going to use this instead of 'wrong') because that was your question. At the core of that original post is, in fact, basically the same limited line of thinking present in the post I was talking about. (Btw no shade to OP–I care more about the 40k people who seem to agree with them, they might have changed their mind or not articulated themselves well, I've been there). Let's look at the original curtains are blue post and this post side by side.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Putting the rest of this under a cut because it gets long
The left is a version of the original idea in the "curtains are blue" post, and the right is the post I had an issue with which seems to basically be saying that real academic literary analysis doesn't actually try to match color symbolism to meaning, and instead focuses on autobiographical details of the author's life.
If this is true to OP's experience or the experience of those reblogging the post, I hope they high-tail it out of whatever program they're studying in. The issue with both of these posts, besides their general anti-intellectual undertone, is actually their emphasis on "correct" or "real" interpretation of a text, or one that is understood as "right" by some kind of invisible cabal of criticism-theory referees who all want to tell you "what the author really said." This is, among other things, a very juvenile approach to criticism. I think the reason that this type of sentiment is so popular on tumblr is that, frankly, a lot of people on this website are in high school or early college, and have an adversarial relationship to their English teacher/professor, who grades them on how well they can analyze a text based on sometimes arbitrary criteria. It makes sense that they would see themselves being graded on their criticism as "right" or "wrong" and interpret that there is such a thing as a single interpretation of a text that is "right" or "wrong."
However, that's not really what is or should be happening in upper-level/higher education. A high school English teacher trying to teach their students about color symbolism in the Great Gatsby is simply trying to impart one possible methodology of criticism to their students and enable them to repeat the same basic critical moves that one critic, at one time, has made, because grasping the basic ability to adopt a methodology and employ it is a foundational skill for analysis. However, public schools in America can't and don't take the time to explain that this is a methodology, so many students who are tumblr-aged walk away with this idea that their English teachers or even their professors have an extremely narrow view of what is "true" in a text. Often, exposure to one methodology will leave them with the idea that this is the correct methodology, when what they should have been taught first is that obsessing over what is "correct," especially related to truth from the author, is the one thing you shouldn't do. This is why the second post is just as bad: it says that actually, it's not symbolic interpretations from the author that matter (as in 'the author meant for the curtains to just be blue'), but an author's biography which, buried under psychoanalytic layers, can be revealed as a generator of meaning (as in 'the author's mother died in a room with blue curtains'). Both of these things are irrelevant because they, probably through the above process of intellectual alienation caused by grades I mentioned above, are focused on what the author intended as being a source of truth within a text.
This is what Death of the Author makes an attempt to deconstruct, and why I mentioned it in my original post. Barthes wrote his essay at a time when theory and criticism in general was undergoing seismic shifts following two major world wars & a huge variety of other cultural undercurrents in middle of the 20th century. Many things that had been taken for granted up to that point were suddenly being reconsidered, in particular the idea that texts, art, or even language itself has a central "truth" or meaning. Massively simplified, this is one of the core tenets of post-structuralism, and you can definitely say that Barthes was a post-structuralist thinker. When Barthes wrote that the death of the author is the birth of the reader, he was simply pointing out that the assumption many centuries of Western criticism is built on–that the author is the primary meaning-maker within a text, simply because they wrote it–is wrong. I believe this is true. Some people say death of the author is a "methodology" of criticism, but to me it's actually more like a door you have to walk through in order to do really good criticism. If you free yourself from the idea of a "correct" interpretation of a text driven by authorial intent, what you're left with is the really thrilling, life-giving work of criticism: drawing connections from within and without the text, and treating it as a living document whose meaning changes over time. What I think people don't realize is that poststructuralism, either formally or in practice, is the basis for most of the literary theory we embrace and consider valid. That is NOT to say that some French dude in the 1950s invented feminism or post-colonial theory, or even paved the way for it. Instead, you could easily say that marginalized people were already approaching critical analysis in a variety of ways based on their lived experiences, and it was the academy which had to catch up. There are a lot of more complicated theoretical thoughts people have had on this, which aren't relevant here really. But I think it's worth pointing out that Death of the Author is, by my measure at least, very good to do, and is VITAL to do if you've spent most of your adult life having weird, watered-down versions of symbolic, biographical, or psychoanalytic theories of interpretation pounded into your head by overworked English teachers. I feel like I should make it clear, BTW, that what I'm saying about why I think Death of the Author is a useful text or concept and what Barthes is saying about authorship in the essay itself are two slightly different things. Barthes' investment in overturning authorship at least within the confines of this brief essay is a lot more related to him proving out his theories of poststructuralism in general than it is to opening doors to totally new forms of interpretation. In the essay he is essentially saying that the nature of texts is the nature of language itself, which is that they are completely constructed, culturally determined, and therefore open to endless interpretation. This is a beautiful idea and one I embrace fully. A lot of Marxists, queer theorists, and others rail against this at least in part, because if you stop there, you're still functioning within a very limited paradigm. You've probably heard it before, the move is basically: "everything is a construct, so nothing matters" as opposed to the feminist, critical race theory, queer theory approach, which is to say "the things we consider to be true are constructs; what narratives or modes of being exist to disrupt those constructs?" or a more Marxist/materialist approach which is to say "this is a construct, and someone constructed it because it benefitted them to do so."
But I think the original essay really is beautiful. I'm going to quote from it here:
Once the Author is distanced, the claim to "decipher" a text becomes entirely futile. To assign an Author to a text is to impose a brake on it, to furnish it with a final signified, to close writing. This conception is quite suited to criticism, which then undertakes the important task of discovering the Author (or his hypostases: society, history, the psyche, freedom) beneath the work: once the Author is found, the text is "explained," the critic has won; hence, it is hardly surprising that historically the Author's empire has been the Critic's as well, and also that (even new) criticism is today unsettled at the same time as the Author. In multiple writing, in effect, everything is to be disentangled, but nothing deciphered, structure can be followed, "threaded" (as we say of a run in a stocking) in all its reprises, all its stages, but there is no end to it, no bottom; the space of writing is to be traversed, not pierced; writing constantly posits meaning, but always in order to evaporate it: writing seeks a systematic exemption of meaning. In summary: the reason I think we should engage with texts at all is not to find a single meaning. It's not to prove out what the author said or what they didn't say. Instead, when we engage with literary criticism, our goal should be to simply say something as clearly as we can, based on the methodologies available to us. To ask "What is this? What is it doing? How is it doing it, and why do we care?" is a fundamental, beautiful question and the source of pleasure to me as a reader. Art isn't autonomous, and exists in our lives criss-crossed with social and political forces which change over time. When we can untangle the knots around a work of art, we discover ways to articulate ideas that might be impossible in other contexts. To only untangle the knot of authorial intent does ourselves, and the text, a disservice.

(I can't figure out how to send asks from my sideblog but this ask is from ShallowOak!) Hi!! I absolutely LOVE your pony designs! Can you talk us through your thought process on some of them? Like I've never seen anyone pick white fur for Luffy and it is just SO cute and I love it and aaaaa, your work makes me smile!
Hello! I'm glad you like them!!! people liking my horsies fills me with joy♥♥♥ Since you mentioned Luffy's fur I guess you want some kind of explanation about how I pick colors (because if we're talking about design and pony types that's a whole different thing that I will be delighted to explain hehe)
I made this thing, I hope it helps my explanation, but practically when I do the color part, I just keep trying until I feel like it looks good lol
Tumblr media
Here are some thoughts I had while trying tones for Luffy
I try to start with the basic colors of the characters and see what tones are lacking in the palette, so if it's a very warm color palette I try to find a cold color for the coat.
Sometimes that doesn't work and I try with a lighter version of one of the detail's colors (like, I put a light blue in one of Nami's possible coat tones bc I was thinking about her swimsuit)
I also keep in mind the other ponies coats and do my best so they don't repeat since they're a group and will appear together sometimes and that might be confusing if they're drawn without their accesories :)
I feel like my pony designs are quite basic (to the point where I'm scared they will look plain) because my style is stuck in early MLP OC designs who used to be more similar to the show (the point back then was to make a pony that would go unnoticed as a background pony from the show).
Actually many new OC designs have markings, accessories, clothes, and other stuff. I added clothes to the OP designs because I like to try to adapt them to pony bodies haha but I didn't want to add color variations and stuff just bc I'm not used to it and I don't like overly complicated designs.
Hope that helped, the first answer is ✨vibes✨
the second one is "My color theory teacher scared me a lot and I learned driven by fear so everything's engraved in my brain forever even if I can't explain it with difficult words"

About that transphobic artist you fought against, do you mind telling us their blog's name? Or DMing it to those who ask? I just want to make sure I don't support their work by giving a like, reblogging or following them.
Also, because you mentioned Yamato, I'd like to know what's your take on Kaido respecting the fact that Yamato identifies as a man (and calling him his son), but not as Kozuki Oden? I mean it's nice from Kaido to respect his son, but I can't help thinking it's a bit contradictory... And I have to admit that sometimes I wonder if Yamato identifies himself as Kozuki Oden and his symbol, what he represents, more than as just a man. Like if Oden didn't exist, would it change something? I really hope Oda will develop Kaido and Yamato's relationship a bit more in the future. Or maybe it's already developed and I missed it? 🤔
Sure, no problem!
They have protected account, so it's not very likely you'll stumble upon them on twitter, but they also have pixiv and are/were quite active in zolaw tag, so you might see them there.
Btw, please do check the op who tweeted about Kiku - @/peqchessss, they're also here on tumblr - their stuff is amazing!
Anyway, that's the bitch (my bitching not included, blocked them before screenshoting the whole deal):
Tumblr media
And regarding Kaido-Yamato stuff, under the cut and warning for info revealed in chapter 1044:
For a long time Kaido agreeing to call Yamato son but refusing to accept his identity as Oden was my main "!!" regarding Yamato's gender. I mean, if the whole identity thing was about Oden, Kaido would stubbornly misgender him, right?
It's a bit...hard to say what Yamato exactly means when saying he's Oden, but 1) he keeps identifying as a man even when identifying as Yamato 2) kinning and trans identity is often corelated 3) getting inspired/wanting to be like a person of certain gender is an impulse for many trans people to discover they're trans. I'm an example here, ironically thanks to Yamato, who's story was like the last push towards the final identity decision. I mean, a person talking about himself as a man but not going through any kind of transition process, not showing dysphoria? So, it is possible, huh...
Of course, it's not that Yamato transed my gender lol It was a long process. Sometimes you need this last puzzle tho, yknow?
Anyway, unless Yamato explains himself in details-or if Oda gives us a detailed off-screen explaination, better than some half-assed word thrown somewhere in vivre cards-then we can't say for sure what he means :/ What is sure are pronouns he uses, since it's explicitly stated in manga. Be like Luffy, it's Yama-bro, not Yama-gal owo
BUT since we got some new info regarding Joyboy, Nika and Luffy's Devil Fruit, I have a slight feeling the reason why Kaido accepted Yamato's "dad I'm a boy" so easily is exactly because of, well, Joyboy. We know that he failed becoming Joyboy, we know he was imprisoned by WG for the sake of lineage factor research, we know he got interest in the changing world factor around time when he was imprisoned - and when he freed King, to flee together, we know that Momo's DF was made out of Kaido's original and that Vegapunk dropped the project claiming it as "a failure", we know Kaido's obsession with getting Zoan Fruits, reaching as far as buying questionable, mostly broken shit from Doflamingo, we know Kaido's obsession with keeping Yamato under arrest - at the same time letting him train and get stronger (and iirc, even fighting with him, after all, this is how one trains haki).
I have a feeling Kaido, once being sure he's not Joyboy and can never be, tried to make Joyboy out of Yamato, either Yamato liked it, or knew about it, or not.
Of course, it's just a theory, the same as my suspicion that Vegapunk's and WG's goal was to copy/create artificial Nika fruit - that eventually lead to project being picked up by Caesar and turned into SMILE production.

Hi guys! This post has content warnings for the following: suicide, incest, abortion, politics, and swearing. I've tagged this post for all of the above, so you should add one or all of them to your blocked tags if you don't want to see it. Stay safe friends!
@arists started a conversation with me on this post. I'm making my own post now so that I don't clog up op's notifications with our discussion. I'll post the relevant screenshots here, but I'm including the link so that you can fact check what happened if you want.
#1 (op's post)
Tumblr media
Image Description: "A screenshot of a twitter thread. Sarah Chavez writes, 'It's not hard to see what a pro-life world looks like. It looks like a world with a lot of dead women in it." An article is linked, but the url is cut off. Emily Gould replies to the first tweet, saying, '"Amnesty International reports that suicide now accounts for 57 percent of deaths of pregnant femals ages 10-19 in El Salvador." That's what a "culture of life" looks like.'"
#2 (in the notes of op's post)
Tumblr media
Image Description: "granny-griffin replies, 'This. Suicide is an evil we have to prevent. But murder is NEVER the answer. I'm not sure how it even became a viable option. We need a better solution.'"
(note that there is a significant time gap between images #2 and #3)
#3
Tumblr media
Image Description: "arists replies, '@granny-griffin the only other "solution" is mandatory vasectomies on males but good luck telling men what you want to force onto their bodies. ntm abortion at 6 weeks isn't fucking murder but science doesn't fucking matter to you.' Then granny-griffin replies, '@arists if you want to start a conversation, then I'm happy to talk! you can dm me or whatever! But if you're just angry, then I'm glad you found an outlet and I hope you feel better soon'"
#4
Tumblr media
Image Description: "arists replies, '@granny-griffin go start a conversation with the women of texas' Then granny-griffin replies, '@arists I mean. I am a woman living in texas so that should be pretty easy. I'll try to do that sometime soon! It's always helpful to me to hear other people's perspectives on important issues'"
#5
Tumblr media
Image Description: "arists replies '@granny-griffin so you're a traitor then? when you see little girls being forced to birth a product of incest you feel better about yourself? you see women who have a dead baby in their body forced to cary to full at the risk of her life and think "nice job me!!" And you've probably never adopted with makes it even funnier. youre an embodiment ignorance and selfishness.'"
#6 (private message between arists and granny-griffin)
Tumblr media
Image Description: "granny-griffin says, 'hey I really. don't want to fight you. I know that you're upset. I think we both want to help women in vulnerable situations, we just have different ideas of how that should work out practically.' In a second text, granny-griffin continues, 'If you need to keep venting, you should do it here. That way if you say something you might regret, it won't be in public'"
#7
Tumblr media
Image Description: "arists sends three messages. The first one says, 'I'm not venting I'm saying it how it is' The second one says, 'I've dealt with ill-minded christians like you my entire life I know your strategy' The third one says, 'now go back to the post because I refuse to deal with you behind doors so you can appear "holier than thou" by putting on a fake image'"
#8
Tumblr media
Image Description: "granny-griffin sends seven messages. The first one says, 'ok we can do this in public' The second one says 'give me until tonight though I've got school' The third one says 'do you care if I make a separate post? I'll copy all the previous stuff from our conversation and the main post' The fourth one says, 'I just don't want to have a whole conversation on op's thread' The fifth one says, 'it would feel disrespectful almost?' The sixth one says, 'like they have their whole point and I don't want to completely de-rail them' The seventh one says, 'but if you aren't cool with moving them then I can come to wherever is comfortable to you'"
#9
Tumblr media
Image Description: "arists says, 'go ahead'"
to preface—airsts I'm still not totally sure what you want out of this. You aren't obligated to respond to anything I say—just like I'm not obligated to respond to you. We don't know each other, and this is kind of an unfortunate way for us to meet. Still, I hope we can have a productive conversation going forward. I'll go through everything and ask questions. You can respond to as many or as few of them as you want.
#3:
The only other solution to what—suicide? unwanted pregnancy? incest? Is that really the only other solution? What are some policies you would like to see implemented to deal with each of these?
How do you define murder? How do you define what a human life is? Are there particular scientific facts or theories you make use of in your definition? If you have time, please either explain them, or reference an article/book/other source that does. I would like to learn! But I understand that fact checking is a lot of work so if you're too busy I understand.
#4:
(A note here—my knowledge of the situation is not as thorough as I would like it to be, but from what I know I'm not satisfied with the way abortion restrictions are being implemented in Texas. What are we doing—reporting each other to the secret police or something? Notifying the authorities of a crime is one thing, but why is there a finder's fee? Why are we sueing each other? This kind of thing will only breed corruption and mistrust.)
#5:
Huh, what am I a traitor to? Women? Is there a point of view that is specifically the "pro-women" point of view? Traitor makes this sound like a war—are there sides? are there good and bad guys? Who gets to define all of this?
No, I don't like it when girls are forced to birth a child conceived in incest. What are some ways that this situation could be prevented? Do you think that easy abortion access could ever perpetuate abuse by allowing abusers to get rid of the evidence of their actions? Is providing abortion services to victims of incest worth this risk? (and I mean that as a legitimate question, not a leading question)
(Another note here—I am pretty sure children who die in the womb can still be born naturally (hence the term "still-born"). But again, my knowledge here is limited and my issue with abortion is largely because of the harm it does to the child. If the child is dead already, and abortion is the only way to remove them, then I don't have a problem with this.)
Do you think adoption is the only way to take care of vulnerable children? Did you know that people who adopt sometimes need help raising funds to do so, or need help with babysitting, or need meals made and chores done for them? Did you know that mothers who raise their own children need these things too? Is this an attack on my argument, or an attack on me (ad hominem)?
#7
Sorry to assume you were venting—I should have asked what your purpose was instead of making assumptions.
Okay but do please tell me—what is my strategy? I am curious to hear your psychoanalysis of me and my goals.
Arists, I'm really sorry if I came off as "holier than thou." I'm not a better person than you. I know that I think I'm right—everybody does. But I do want to be open to hearing and learning from your perspective. Even if you don't change my mind, you can increase my empathy, and that's extremely valuable to me.
okay, that’s it! I’ll wait for your response!

(Shirt anon here~) Thank you for your long answer! Do you have any photos of them wearing the same clothes? I've seen XZ with a motorcycle jacket but I don't think YB was ever seen wearing the same jacket publicly. People seem convinced they share the same wardrobe, but the only things I've seen them share is two pairs of pants. I feel like I'm missing something... O_O
Motorcycle jacket? 👀👀👀
This got insanely long, once again, so I put it under the cut.
Warning: This is all fake. Don’t take what I say to heart. These are just my random thoughts.
I don’t think there are any pictures of WYB with the motorcycle jacket (Iceberg jacket); and, I don’t think we’ll get any anytime soon. But, the main thing with the jacket is that only a professional racer could have gotten it. In August 2019, WYB competed in the Asia Road Racing Championship as a professional racer on the Yamaha China Racing Team (and actually won first place on the last day)! The jacket was part of the Spring 2019 collection. WYB was supposed to race back in May 2019 but had to withdraw in the middle of the race because of issues with his bike (a video if you want to be sad); I’m not sure if this race would have been his first as a professional or not. XZ wore the jacket for the first time at the airport in October 2019 and then in January 2020. More details about the selling restrictions of the jacket here.
Tumblr media
Of course, we still have the tiny possibility that one of XZ’s friends or family members is a professional racer... but it’s a pretty dismissible percentage. I also don’t think XZ knows anyone else in the industry who’s a professional racer, at least not publicly. Even if he did, I honestly don’t think a typical friend (or even a family member really) would let him wear something that rare/ of pride so causally. I also don’t think XZ’s the type of person to wear something like that unless he was convinced extremely well.
I’m going to give another side to this because I can’t find any official post or proof that says that some Iceberg clothes are limited to professional racers. (If anyone has this, please let me know!) It would make sense if the company does limit some clothing to professionals because it was founded in Emilia-Romagna, Italy, which is where many famous motorcycle companies are housed (including the one WYB’s motorcyclist idol, Valentino Rossi, uses in races) and many races take place. However, if it turns out that there is no restriction in the selling... the jacket was, at the very least, limited edition. It’s a motorcycle/rider jacket and hip-hop style—the style both WYB and XZ started wearing in 2019. Taking the history into account, I place my bets on WYB knowing this particular company more than XZ.
Take from these two possible scenarios what you will.
-
This black coat one is another I think they share: clothes & explanation
I mean the fact that the company even confirmed it was the same... and that it was discontinued a while before XZ showed up with it the first time...
-
For those of you who don’t know about it, here are the shared pants that anon mentioned at the end: 1, 2
The replies on those tweets pretty much say it all: they fit differently on them. XZ has longer legs than WYB, so the jeans fit perfectly on him but WYB had to fold them. The black pants fit to XZ’s ankles, but go past that for WYB.
-
I know people say XZ’s shirt in his 2019 520 post is the same as one of WYB’s airport shirts, but I don’t think so. Look at the pockets. In WYB’s one, the black horizontal strips reach the button, but the black horizontal strips on XZ’s don’t reach the button. Not to mention, this checkered style on shirts is very, very common. Even I have one like it 😂
Tumblr media
-
I keep attacking ones that have a pretty good following, sorry. As consolidation, I’ll link the shoe-lace switch one: here
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I had to take several double-takes when I first saw this. I don’t know enough about shoes to say whether or not the laces match with each other perfectly, but what are the odds huh? Why would they take the time to change the laces on one shoe if it didn’t indicate something meaningful, whether they switched laces or not? Both their left feet have black laces and both their right feet have white laces. If they did indeed switch them: XZ gave his right lace & WYB gave his left lace.
(If you can’t tell, I really like this one 😂)
-
I also really, really like the pink jacket theory... here’s a post that gives a great background for it. Essentially, WYB used to be /practically/ allergic to the color pink. You would never catch him wearing the color casually. (I think there may have been one or two photoshoots where he wore pink, but they weren’t his clothes, obviously.) To be fair, XZ doesn’t wear pink too often either, but he has been seen at the airport (casual outfit) wearing a different, light pink hoodie:
Tumblr media
I don’t know why the photo credit is blurred... if someone has the original or knows the fan site, please let me know so I can credit properly :/
It’s super cute to think that maybe XZ let him borrow his or bought it for him... or even WYB bought it for himself cause loveee~ 😘
He’s worn it twice now! Here’s the second time on a recent DDU episode (clip):
Tumblr media
- - -
So, yeah, I don’t really think they share as many clothes as some people indicate. Though, they do seem to have clothes that are very similar to one another (i.e. one is a shirt with lettering and the other is a jacket with the same lettering), which may actually be more telling... possibly shopping at the same store. And, I already mentioned the same hip-hop style emerging from both of them starting in 2019.
Here are a few examples via this post:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
-
To round all that up, I have a few detailed explanations for some of the clothes they share, but not all of them. Some of the posts I linked have a few more. Most of them look to be general similarities with coloring and type of clothing (i.e. both wearing some sort of red coat, both wearing a black beanie, etc.) along with a few pairs of shoes from the same company in different colors, which is where I think a lot of people get the same wardrobe idea from. However, there are one or two clothing items here and there that look to be the same (the hands emoji was edited in by OP to point to the white star!):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- - -
Those are my thoughts on the same wardrobe theory. But, be aware that this is only one side. I’m sure people who are more into the clothes sharing than me have better explanations for other clothing pieces.
You decide what to think; remember, there’s no right or wrong here~
-
As you can probably tell, I like to focus on the ones that have more evidence than same style and dates backing them up… like the black coat not being sold anymore and the Iceberg jacket only being sold to a certain group of people/ limited edition (I like the meaning behind them), but it’s still pretty fun to look at other similarities.
Keep in mind that XZ & WYB are very sly and enjoy playing around, so who knows, maybe all the things I talked about here were pure coincidences and the things I didn’t talk about here or tried to debunk were real.
I also believe their clothes-sharing is at a far lower level of importance, as compared to other things the two have done to show their love for each other. It kind of shows how daring they are. As much as they try to keep their relationship discreet, they don’t mind giving hints once in a while.
-
Overall, I don’t think you’re missing too much anon~ (But, I hope this post provided you a few more clothes-sharing instances to further help you form your opinion on the whole thing.)

thanks for answering!! i hope you don't mind if i send more charas...how about green and/or lillie?
fhgjkfdg aw yea thank u!! hopefully this doesn’t publish before i’m done typing lol
also this definitely needs a readmore bc i got emotional abt Green oops
Green
favorite thing about them
first of all: the fact that Green canonically has a rivals to best friends arc with Red fills me with so much joy and YES they are on their alolan honeymoon you cannot convince me otherwise
okay like. gen 1 Green just perfectly encompasses what it’s like to be a ten year old in a way? like ofc he’s written like a kid bc he is a kid, but i feel like the writing on him just feels so genuine as compared to some of the other 10 yr old rivals you get in other regions. even though he’s kinda a brat at the start, he kinda eases up a bit as you go along your journey and starts giving you progressively nicer/more praise-y end lines when you beat him (going from “i picked the wrong pokémon!” to “so, you are ready for boss rocket!”) but still retains this childlike rivalry and competitiveness and i love that about him
and like. fucking beating him at the Indigo League still completely breaks my heart because even after he did become the champion at age 10 the first thing that happens is you beat him and Prof Oak just yells at him for being bad at things and like. ow.
this is why i headcanon that Red actually took awhile longer to get to Green like please. please give my boy a chance to be happy and proud
also Red was caught up with Team Rocket anyway so i imagine he must’ve fallen a little behind at some point? anyway
the development on him across regions is so choice!!! he’s so much more mellow and even kinda melancholic when you find him in gsc/hgss, like he’s calmed down over a few years and he obviously misses Red so much but like, it’s clear that Red is kinda the reason Green does settle down and he seems to have worked on his character and become a nicer person - and he still has that sassy flair to him! he’s just got that gradual slope from asshole rival to kinda aloof gym leader to friendly/sassy battle legend and aaaaa i love my boy so MUCH
also huge point: he’s so fucking driven??? he’s got the most drive and the most passion for battles/pokémon in general out of all the rivals i feel. he’s only closely matched by Silver, but Silver seems to be more aggressive than passionate, and somewhat out of necessity too (like, Giovanni abandoned him what was he to do), whereas Green just really like. he genuinely just cares so much about battles and about pokémon in general! he literally calls you in hgss and just rants about how many different kinds of pokémon there are in the world!!!
also in Alola he’s like???? just so sweet?????? he congratulates you and is like hey you’re really strong lets battle like!!!!!!!!! supportive boy!!!!! he has come so far over so many generations and i cry
also on Four Island when you play frlg he legitimately says “Be smelling ya!” when he leaves and how do you not love this idiot
least favorite thing about them
i mean. while i get that you beat Green right after he becomes the champion in the kanto games i feel like there should’ve been more pomp and circumstance for him and i’ll never forgive gamefreak for giving this boy his dream, then making you rip it away from him, and then watching his own gramps yell at him for fucking up like. again it’s that drive, i get why Red keeps such good pace w Green but i just feel like he worked so hard and he deserved so much better than that
also while i’m very biased towards him bc Big Emotions, i feel like if i knew this boy irl who was constantly i’m so great and you’re a loser i would probably punch him eventually lmao. in theory it’s kinda endearing but as a real person that’d be grating
favorite line
on one hand, “smell ya later” is so fucking iconic, but on the other -
“I’m Blue. Man, this guy called Red brought me down in a heartbeat. I haven’t seen him in a long time…I wonder where he is and what he’s up to… Come to think of it, you look a little bit like Red. Yeah, you do. Just…Just a little bit. Whatever…”
my namelessshipping heart
ALSO NOT CANON BUT GREEN RANTING TO YOU ABOUT RED AND GETTING SO DISTRACTED THAT HE FORGETS TO GIVE YOU THE POKÉDEX????? BIG GAY
brOTP
for long elaborate headcanon reasons, i see him as being a good brotp with Kris - i headcanon her as also being really driven the way Green is, but more quiet about it, she’s kinda a good balance to him and they probably do pokemon research together. i also feel like she kept him sane while Red was still missing/before they found him on a fuckin mountain
OTP
do i really need to tell you that i’m 100% namelessshipping
like they perfectly balance each other. Green has all this energy and all this spunk and Red is just like… so opposite of him y'know? he’s quiet and he’s more measured in his behavior i feel, he doesn’t really rush into things as much, and yet they both really just took Kanto by storm when they were kids, and i like how they have this foil dynamic and are both still so successful? they’re so different and they complement each other in that way, and they both find success in their own ways
like one of the reasons i hate that Green’s championship gets undersold so much is that he did beat you to the punch, and he has been one step ahead of you, and there’s so much passion there and it’s so loud - and yet you as Red are just as driven, you take down Team Rocket, you’re always right on his tail, so close but not quite there, you’re the only one who can keep up with him and you’re the only one he cares enough about to slow down for
so like. idk with even all my headcanons about namelessshipping aside (and i can infodump those another day lol), i feel like the in-game representation of them just works. they just work so well together, they balance each other without ever holding each other back, and there’s something really beautiful about that in a relationship y'know
…..i feel bad abt not putting as much infodump about isshushipping now but oh well
nOTP
i don’t really have a notp with him? i kinda like. i basically just do namelessshipping, but i don’t get a visceral eugh when i see other ships with him, just kinda a well it’s not nameless so i’ll be on my way. idek what other ships w him are popular?? i’ve been in nameless hell since 2012 so
random headcanon
while Red is still living on Mount Silver, Green is not coping well with having him so far away, and so Green massively overworks himself to the point that he keeps just not being in his gym sometimes bc he’s bouncing between the gym, training multiple teams, pokémon research, and ofc going to visit Red whenever he can. this leads him to be kinda temperamental after he’s been working on 2 hours of sleep a day for like a week until he just has an emotional meltdown and crashes, and then he gets right back into it because he has no self preservation
…….. nicer headcanon; Red can only cook two (2) foods, so Green cooks all the food for them when they move in together. he has attempted to teach Red how to cook, but Red pretends not to understand so Green will keep making him food. Green knows Red is faking it and doesn’t call him out bc he thinks it’s cute
unpopular opinion
look i’ve played through classic red version a few times and when i say he wasn’t that much of a jerk, i do genuinely mean he was not that much of a jerk. he’s like ten. ten year olds are just Like That. i guess this isn’t too unpopular anymore but it was Back In The Day and in some parts of the fandom he’s still seen as a jerk and like Bro He Is Ten In RGB/FRLG cut him some slack
also genuinely unpopular - Green is taller than Red. i know namelessshipping has fallen into the bara Red and twink Green trope but i refuse to let go of tall Green/short Red fuckin fight me why dont you
song i associate with them
a lot of the Pray For The Wicked album by Panic! at the Disco gives me Green vibes, more for the sound than for lyrics necessarily, but for some reason Roaring 20s just like. has the sound of Green to me. it’s somewhere between flamboyant pride and underlying insecurity that i think really encapsulates Green (or at least his subtext)
favorite picture of them
i genuinely love his let’s go concept art he’s such a sweet good boy??
and for the life of me i cannot find the op source on this but this is my fave pic of Green/namelessshipping in general that i’ve had saved since like 2012 maybe???
Tumblr media
yeah if anyone can help me source that i’d appreciate it bc reverse image search only brings me to pinterest and random wattpad links :/
update: source seems to be the artist くる (pixiv id=982894) on pixiv, even though the original post got taken down (ty anon!)
Lillie
favorite thing about them
by now i guess you know im a sucker for character development, but i think they did a really good job with her!! i feel like her turn is a bit more in moments than it is with Green, who gradually evolves (lol) over the course of Kanto/all the gens overall. you see more discrete moments where Lillie starts to shift and gain confidence in herself and i am so proud of her ???? like the way she gets excited when she sees Olivia doin’ her z-move stuff, she starts buying her own clothes and getting ahead of you, etc etc
and like, she still has moments where she’s scared, there’s still some fundamental Lillie in there yknow? you don’t lose any of that softness that characterizes Lillie, she just like… she gets better, she develops without losing her Lillie vibe and i love that abt her. she overcomes a lot of the shit she had to deal with when she was stuck with Lusamine, she stands up to Lusamine eventually, and ghfdkjsg gah she’s a sweet gorl i love and appreciate her
also like. the writing on her backstory is so subtle in-universe. like yeah she literally looks like Lusamine’s daughter and you see her in the opening cutscene leaving Aether, but as the protagonist - like as Selene lets say, there’s little hints about where Lillie came from, and if you suspend your disbelief and put yourself in the pc’s shoes, there’s subtly to her character arc that i like
also like. when she changes her outfit and starts being more protagonist-y, like more confident and kinda bubbly instead of shy??? love that shit it’s so cute can i have custody of this child pls
least favorite thing about them
i like. sometimes feel like she’s too soft of a character for me to really get into? like i love her and Hau, they’re sweet good friends, but i tend to personally gravitate towards characters that create a little more tension (ie Green and N)
(though on that note, Hau can be kinda savage. he just calls Faba out and sarcastically calls Gladion “a ray of sunshine” at some point i think?? Lillie is just very tender and i will support her forever, but i think that also makes her almost too soft to keep me fixated on her yknow. it’s not even a flaw in her character but just not something i fawn over as much)
favorite line
“I’m so glad I got to meet everyone. I’m so glad I got to meet you.”
like that ending kills me but that line almost feels like. I Feel That So Much like i feel so happy to have met all these new characters and to have played these games, and i feel like some of the player’s energy and enjoyment of the game is channeled into this last line of hers
also GET IN THE BAG
brOTP
probably her and Hau?? idk, i don’t have a specific brotp for her but i like her just hangin around w the other Alola kids, so like her, Hau, Gladion, and the protag kids. they’d raise hell together and Lillie continues to be the only one with some impulse control
(Gladion also has some impulse control but keeps getting annoyed by Hau and so he gets dragged into their nonsense anyway)
OTP
Selene and Lillie is. Good. idk what the ship name is but it’s canon
nOTP
i dont even know if people ship her with Gladion but incest is a big no-no in my house
random headcanon
when she goes to Kanto, i bet she’d pick Bulbasaur as a starter if she was given the opportunity - and if not, she’d probably catch a wild Vulpix
unpopular opinion
idk if have any unpopular opinions for her??
song i associate with them
i have no reason to associate this with her but the Rainy Day theme from acgc just. has a vibe about it. i think a lot of ac music feels like it suits her
favorite picture of them
i found this art of her through a lofi remix of her theme awhile back and it’s so pleasing to look at? her hair is nice and the colors are so warm n happy gjhkfdgf
if you read this far, congratulations!!! and i’m sorry

A Generational study of Misha's wackydoodle fanbase.
This was the first post I ever did, on my blog.  The post did very well, and that was because the hellers were reblogging and adding their own captions to the post, and other dumber hellers were leaving a like.  So essentially they were creating traffic for my post without realizing it.  Because their nasty fingerprints are all over this post, I want to repost an edited version with updated information and less typos.  I remembered this post because of this interesting comment.
''In Twitter, in their own words, they have from 2 up 10 accounts. A lot of free time, I assume. I barely have time to enter tumblr xD''
Immediately, the Profound Bonds census came to mind.  I remember seeing a prominent amount of children.  And on one page, there was only one 37 year old.  I was surprised.  I wish I could use a screenshot of that page, but the hellers deleted the entire census.  I wonder why.  The above comment and the census, is the reason I am reposting an amended version of this.
Enjoy!
Impassioned fans can be very annoying.  Like any fanatic, [in the words of Spike Milligan] they don't enjoy their favorite art.  They suffer from it.  However, most of the time, you find a way to chill with them, and you will be able to have a conversation about something or the other.  You might even share their enthusiasm, unless they start behaving creepily and nauseating you.  The hellers are the latter breed of freak.  They are the creepiest, most nauseating but most mobilized and active part of this fandom, because they have a hierarchy that operates their entire system.  There are influencers and drones.  Seeing an influencers will give you the impression that hellers are a group of grown women, however, that is not the case.  Only the influencer are older.  The drones are young.  Sometimes painfully young.
Understanding slash is one of the things that allowed me to understand why these people are so subservient towards Misha, and why they never question him.  There are other factors like his cult leader behavior, however, there is a particular group that he targets and he uses social media to do it.  Slash is almost a century old.  And each generation behaved in a specific way, regarding slash fiction.  The earlier generations were very covert.  It may have had something to do with modesty.  It may also have had something to do with “outsiders ruining our  fun”.  As far as Supernatural is concerned,  three generations of slash fans are represented.
I am using the word generation here, from a marketing demographic perspectives, because this seems like the most sensible way to categorize slash fans.  Believe me, I am fully aware I am over simplifying this.  I am trying to write a short blog.  In no way, am I throwing shade at your generation.  I just like mine the most. lol!!!
There are three major generations in this fandom, that indulge in slash fiction:
Generation X:  These are slash fans born between 1965 and 1979.
Generation Y aka Millenials:  These are slash fans born between 1980 and 1994.
Generation Z aka Centennials:  These are slash fans born after 1994.
Generation X is that last generation of classic slashers.  This is a covert group that doesn’t like to share its artworks and works of fiction with outsiders.  If they remained underground and secret forever, they wouldn’t mind.  And if that mindset remained, nobody would even know that slash fiction exists.  As a member of this generation, I wish that things had stayed this way, but understand that society changes.  Its evitable.  Gen Xers usually don’t ship just one pair because it would seem a little foolhardy to pin all your slashy happiness on one pair that you put together.  There are plenty of pretty fish in the sea and we tend to mix 'n match.  There may be pairings we will like more than others, but generally speaking, we don't have issues with working through a cast like a buffet and enjoying different pairings.
Younger generations of J2 fans were influenced by this generation's writings and therefore share the same opinions.  If there are any destiel shippers in this group, three suppositions are likely.  First, they are either, hidden away from social media and don't know about this death threat drama, and they don't have any frenzied love for destiel where it blinds them.  Misha is not influencing them via social media either.  They have a life and destiel is just their pass time.  Or, they are influencers who are older and therefore that sway the minds of younger people.  I theorize, however, that most of the destiel shippers in this generation deserted the ship and moved on.
The Y generation or millenial brought two changes to slash fiction.  From a western standpoint, this generation started to become inclusive and politically correct, making their work LGBT oriented rather than hetero/bi female oriented to the detriment of the artform.  The greatest irony is that mpreg [the last remnance of femininity] was born at the tail end of this generation.  My previous theory about this group was wrong.  I thought they were a quiet group.  But no.  All the Lua Jame's, Janelle's and Exorcising Emily's are coming this group.  This means that the influencers, the first users of social media in other words, are from this generation.  Perhaps, the normal non-criminal thinking, nice destiel shippers come from this generation too.
Generation Z or centennials are the youngest generation, making them the least experienced, with the least filter.  They don’t think before they speak, but boy do they have a lot to say.  They tend to use social justice and politics to push the validity of their ship.  They are like junkies when it comes to their ship and Misha Collins is the only dealer they have.  They look for other dealers which is why they tend to ask all and sundry, what their opinion is with regard to destiel.
They based their opinion of that person, on how that person responds to destiel.  Its like a pothead who only likes people who say that smoking pot is ok.  And if that person is indifferent to destiel, they will collectively attack that individual.  The only reason is because they are young.  Its only when I looked at their census, that I realized that many of them are as young as 13.  So most of them are children.  In Misha's heller army, these kids are the soldiers, bashing Jensen and Jared online and voting for Misha to win an award.  Lets hope their taste chances as they grow.
Misha and his influencer, have convinced these people that what they feel is true, and because they are still young, they don't know any better.  Even a non heller might feel insulted by this analysis of an entire generation but believe me.  I am not critiquing you.  I am merely pointing out that your brain doesn't fully develop until you hit 40.  You are not a child, I concur.  But you are not a complete adult.  Get to my age, look back at life, and realize how many times circumstances forced you to change your opinion about various subjects.   I wager that about ten years from now, the hellers will look back at their behavior and cringe.  They don't know any better and the adults around them are not teaching them to do the right thing.
So Misha’s primary fanbase are a bunch of children, who are spread around the globe, and who don't affect of the ratings, have generally no money of their own so they cant buy seats for his panel or photo-ops or raise a decent amount for anything he is auctioning.  They couldn't attend Indycon so it flopped.  Not that he has that many fans to start with.  And they don’t recognize that Misha is trolling them with destiel, because they are too young to understand.
Misha has the dumbest cult following ever, because he attached him to Jensen and Dean.  And Jensen doesn't even spend anytime with Misha outside of work.  So the shippy calling card Misha waves will catch fire in his hands.  He is also attracting children and they will grow up to eventually change their mind and taste in men.  The influencers are likely to stick with him, unless they get bored with the lack of Jensen and move on.  So consequently, Misha and his hellers wont benefit each other in the long run.
I have a feeling there may still be typos.  Excuse them, please.

I'm curious. How do you feel about the idea of dating a GC dysphoric male? Personally i can't do it unless they were completely detrans or desisted bc i had too many terrible experiences with mtfs both while i was more woke and when i turned around. It's just way triggering to me and i'm unwilling to compromise on that lol. Also he'd have to be non-op, i don't like neovaginas regardless of labeling. What is your current stance?
Assuming we'd get along well and really like each other a lot, be compatible as people (sexually and otherwise), be on at least roughly the same page about stuff that matters, and able to "agree to disagree" where our opinions differ, have similar goals in life, etc, which goes for anyone I'd date... I'll only focus on the kinda stuff that would realistically generally differ a GC dysphoric male from a GC regular male, I think would only really be his relationship with his body, participation/involvement within trans circles and transition (physical and/or social) related stuff.
And when it comes to that, I feel kinda like this: I draw the line at genital surgery too. I get queezy about neo-vaginas, as well as neo-penises. In fact I feel queezy about any genital surgery that's more drastic than male circumcision. Although I'd probably be fine with other kinds of surgery like breast implants, FFS, etc. I can absolutely find feminine males attractive and wouldn't mind calling a male partner my girlfriend, she/her, etc. Although I draw the line at ever referring to a male partner of mine as a lesbian. There goes my limit.
In regards to dysphoria, it is nice being able to relate to dysphoric partner, even if the dysphoria isn't going in the same direction. However, if he'd have strong genital dysphoria, that would make it difficult for me enjoy sex. Although it's not like I'd have to have PIV every single time, I am kinda traditional/old fashioned in what types of sex I actually enjoy (and believe me I've tried a lot of different kinds, and there's a ton more I wanna try, but penetration and oral remain as my top 2 favourites), especially with males. So if he'd have a ton of genital dysphoria that would greatly impact our sex life, we'd be having a problem. I'd be completely dissatisfied, to be perfectly honest, and I don't wanna end up in that sorta situation to begin with, if at all possible to avoid.
I know that is probably very TMI (and for that I'm sorry) but honestly it's my biggest concern about possibly dating a dysphoric male, so kinda had to go there, lol. I hope you don't mind. Because I know that having intense genital dysphoria seems to be far more common among dysphoric males than dysphoric females, for reasons I can only speculate about. So I've never been overly concerned about that aspect being a problem when dating other dysphoric females (two of my previous partners were/are dysphoric females), but it most certainly becomes a big question in regards to potentially dating dysphoric males.
So I do have a few concerns about dating dysphoric males, even if they're gender critical, but I wouldn't say "never" on that point. It is fully possible that I could love such a person and wanna spend the rest of my life with him. But yeah, to be realistic, I'm probably quite unlikely to find a dysphoric male that I'd actually be compatible with, and I don't see much of a point in trying hard to look for one. And with all this said, the number of dysphoric, transitioned males I’ve ever been actually attracted to have been 2 trans women. I knew both irl, kinda. They were barely acquaintances, and very different from each other. One was very masculine but passable, white, and interested in me, but fully transitioned, so the idea of neo-vag put me off there, as well as her aggressive behaviour. The other was very feminine but non-passing, black, not interested in me, but early in her transition and came off as very sweet and kind. So with those kinda prospects, me dating a dysphoric male feels like an unlikely thing to actually happen. Because there are so many little things that need to fall into place, and there are so few dysphoric GC males out there, and I don’t even do long-distance dating anymore. So in theory, yes, but in practice... probably won’t happen.
